What Love Overcomes Ch 10
Disclaimer:This story is not written by or affiliated with anyone who works at ABC, General Hospital, Marisa Ramirez, and Coltin Scott.
Gia is tossing her things into a suitcase that is laying open on the bed.
She has been up since Nikolas woke up for work this morning, she begged him
to wake her before he left. They laid in bed until Nikolas really had to
leave before he was late. Gia was surprised she slept at all last night, but
she always did sleep better in Nikolas's arms. She couldn't believe she was
actually doing this, but she is, she has no other choice. She bends over and
picks up her wedding dress that had been so casually tossed aside last night,
it's a miracle the dress isn't a wrinkled mess. She carefully folds it up and
places it in the suitcase, wiping a tear from her eye. Gia is going through
her dresser when she hears the front door open and slam then hears footsteps
coming up the stairs. Gia is afraid it's Nikolas and tries to hide the
suitcase under the bed when the door opens and Luke sticks his head in.
Luke: Hey, Braids. You ready yet?
Gia(putting her hands over her heart): Luke, don't scare me like that. I
thought you were Nik. How did you get in anyway?
Luke(holding up keys): I made a copy of your house key. I don't think you
want to know how.
Gia(sighing): You're right, I don't. Could you just grab everything in the
bottom drawer over there?
Luke: Just as long as it's not any of your girly unmentionables.
Gia(annoyed): It's pants, now hurry up. Just put them in this suitcase over
here.
Luke(grabbing her clothes): I don't think you'll be able to get all this
stuff with you without the airport charging you extra.
Gia: We'll just put it on the plane.
Luke: Nope, you can only have one piece of carry on.
Gia: I thought you said you could get a private plane.
Luke: I know, but then I was thinking it would be too noticeable for me, you,
and Roy to get on a private plane and then you're gone for good. Flying with
a commercial airline is best.
Gia: Yeah...wait. You told Roy?
Luke: I couldn't pull this off on my own, and he could help, and I trust him,
although his disguises need some work.
Roy(walking in): My disguises are perfectly fine, they're not too obvious
unlike someone I know. Gia, here is your passport.
Luke(snatches it from Roy before Gia can): Hey, I thought I said give her the
name Ginger Monroe.
Gia: Ginger Monroe?
Roy: He thinks it would be clever to combine Marilyn Monroe and Ginger
Rogers. Luke, you can't do that, it's too obvious, a more common name is
best. Lee is one of the most common last names in the world and Jessica is a
fairly common name.
Gia(taking her passport): Jessica Lee is a lot better than Ginger Monroe,
thank you Roy. I'm sure Luke filled you in on what's going on and why I'm
leaving.
Roy: Yeah, I'm sure everything is going to work out.
Luke: What time does the flight leave?
Roy: Two hours. Are you almost ready?
Gia(sighs): I think so. I have most of my clothes, even though I won't be
able to wear most of them soon enough. I have the rest of my things together
in those bags over there.
Luke: Did you write a touching little good-bye letter telling Nikky why
you're gone?
Gia: Yes, it says that I wasn't ready to settle down with marriage and that I
didn't love him as much as I thought. All lies....especially after last night.
Luke(makes a face): Spare me the details, please. Did you call the doctor?
Gia: Yes, I told her I would be out of town for an undetermined amount of
time and that I would get in contact with her when I came back to town, if it
is before the baby's born and that I would be seeing a doctor while I'm away.
How am I going to see a doctor? I have to have good prenatal care, it's the
least I can do for my baby, I am, after all taking it away from it's father.
Luke: I know a good doctor there and he's going to take good care of you. Is
there anything else you need?
Gia: Another way to get away from Helena. This is tearing my heart apart.
Roy(reluctant): Gia, you have to sign these. (hands her papers)
Gia: What are they?
Roy: The divorce papers. It states just what you wanted, Nikolas gets
everything and you have nothing except for whatever you entered the marriage
with. Sign at the "X".
Gia(scribbling away her life): There, now I guess my marriage is over. Here,
just go put them on the coffee table downstairs. Could you take my bags down.
I'll be right there.
Roy: Sure. Come on, Luke.
After Roy and Luke leave the room Gia sits on the bed and stares at her
wedding and engagement rings. She is contemplating whether or not to leave
them behind. True, leaving them would add more evidence that she was through
with the marriage, but she couldn't do it, she just couldn't give up her
rings. She can still remember when Nikolas asked her to marry him only 2
short months ago.
*******************************
Gia: Nikolas, did you just say what I think you said?
Nik: Marry me, Gia.
Gia: Are you out of your mind? We've only been dating a few months and
everyone would kill us.
Nik(not taking no for an answer): Do you love me?
Gia(touching the side of his face): Of course I do, with all my heart.
Nik: Then marry me. We love each other and that's all that matters.
Gia(smiling): All right! Yes, I'll marry you. (hugs him) I'll marry you.
Nik(pulling a ring out of his pocket): If we're getting married, I think
you'll need this.
Gia: Oh, it's gorgeous.
Nik(slipping it on her finger): It's not too big?
Gia: Even if it was, I'm not the kind of person who gonna turn down a huge
diamond. How many carats is this?
Nik: I think the man said 8. I saw it and knew it was perfect. An 8 carat
emerald cut diamond engagement ring. You like it?
Gia(beaming): I love it! When should we get married?
Nik: Tonight. What's the point of having a long engagement? I want you to be
my wife as soon as possible. Unless you want to wait...
Gia(kissing him): No. Let's not waste one-second. I just need a dress, heels,
those sapphires you got me for my birthday, and flowers.....pale pink tulips.
Nik(smiling): Let's go get the stuff and get married.
Gia: Let's go.
********************************
Gia is snapped back into reality when she hears Luke calling from
downstairs telling her to hurry up. She grabs her purse and heads for the
door. When she gets downstairs she is met right away by Calypso, who is
confused about seeing all of the luggage and 2 strange men in her home.
Gia(hugging Calypso): Hey, girl. Oh, I'm gonna miss you, Calypso. Be good for
Nikolas, okay? And don't wreck the house when no one else is here, don't bite
the mailman again, and play nice with the dogs next door....
Luke: You talk to your dog like it's a kid?
Gia: She is my first baby, Luke.
Luke: So why don't we take Kujo with us?
Gia: No. Nikolas will need her.
Luke: I think you're too attached to the dog. (phone rings) Are you expecting
a call?
Gia: No. (picks up the phone) Hello?
Nik: Hey, Gia. I was thinking how about we go to that new Italian restaurant
for dinner tonight?
Gia: Um...sure. Italian..Italian sounds great.
Nik: Good. I just wanted to check in case you had another special dinner
planned, last night was amazing. I'll definitely have to repay the favor.
Gia(trying to keep her emotions in check): You'd better.
Nik: Gia, are you all right?
Gia: Of course I'm okay.
Nik: You sound like you were crying.
Gia: Oh, I was just talking to my Mom and got upset is all. I'm fine, really.
Nik: Okay. Well, I gotta get back to work. I just wanted to check with
dinner.
Gia: I love you, Nikolas.
Nik: I love you, too, Gia. Bye.
Gia: Wait. I mean, I really love you...with all my heart. I just want you to
know that. Good-bye, Nikolas.
Gia prays Nikolas will never know what it took for her to hang up the
phone. She can almost feel every mile that will soon stand between them.
Gia: Let's go. (wiping tears away) Let's go now before I lose my nerve.
Luke: Great, let's hit the road.
Gia takes one last look around the living room before closing the door and
practically running to the car. She is certain that she will never see this
house again. As they drive away, Gia only hopes that Nikolas isn't too
devastated by this.
*****************************
Several hours later......
Nikolas walks through the front door with a smile on his face and a huge
bouquet of pale pink tulips, Gia's favorite flower. He calls for Gia, very
surprised when she doesn't appear, or at least tell him where she is. He is
about to check upstairs when he sees Calypso sitting in front of the coffee
table moaning. He walks over to see what's up.
Nik(setting the flowers on the couch): What's up, Calypso? What are you
staring at?
Nik sees the picture of him and Gia that was taken right after their
wedding, sitting in it's usual spot on the coffee table. What's not right is
an envelope with his name on it and then a pile of papers next to the
picture. Nik opens the envelope and begins to read the letter written in
Gia's somewhat sloppy handwriting.
Dear Nikolas;
I'm afraid that this just isn't working out for me. I thought I loved you
enough to marry you and to spend the rest of my life with you, but I guess I
don't. I think it would be best to end the marriage now before I hurt you
anymore than I am right now as you're reading this. I do love you, Nikolas,
but not enough to stay married. Next to this letter there should be papers on
the table. They are divorce papers stating that you get everything and I keep
whatever I entered our marriage with. This is very hard for me to do, but it
has to be done. Don't try to come after me because I've left Port Charles and
you'll never find me. I'm not even sure where I'm going, I just know that I
need to leave. Trust me this is best for you, for me...for everyone involved.
I can only hope that in time you cannot hate me. I won't ever return to Port
Charles, it's best that way. Please, Nikolas...if you remember anything at
all from our relationship, just remember that I did..do love you, but
sometimes just loving someone isn't enough. I don't regret one thing that has
happened between us and I hope you don't either.
Gia
Nikolas stares at the letter in utter shock. If she was planning to leave
him then what the hell was last night about then? Nikolas tosses the letter
aside and picks up the picture, he and Gia's smiles lit up that picture. They
had been so happy at their wedding, and there was no way those feelings were
false or not strong enough to make it through the rest of their lives. Nik
picks up the phone and calls the only person he can think of to call at this
moment.
Nik: Lucky? Hi, it's me. Gia left me.
