Gia(not knowing what else to say): Hi, Nikolas.
The more he looked at her, the reason she left was very apparent...she's obviously pregnant. But why wouldn't she tell him? If he thought she was one bit threatened he would've left town with her so they could start a new life wherever Gia wanted. Nikolas didn't realized he said his questions out loud until Gia answered him.
Gia: I couldn't tell you about the baby, Nikolas. As much as I wanted to, it was much safer for the baby this way.
Nik(hates to ask, but....): Is the baby mine?
Gia: Of course. (wants to run into his arms so badly) We should sit down we have a lot to talk about.
Nik(hates all this awkwardness): Do you need any help? Can I get you anything?
Gia(settling on the couch): No, thanks. I'm fine. Look, Nikolas, I know you're probably very angry with me....
Nik: Probably?! Do you know what it's been like for me these last 6 months? I mean, one day we're fine, you plan that whole romantic evening for us and then the next day I come home and find some letter saying how you didn't love me as much as you thought along with divorce papers. I was crushed. For the life of me I couldn't figure out what had happened.
Gia: Nikolas, I'm sorry for all the pain I caused you, but our child's life was in danger and if I had to leave town and you to keep our baby safe, then damn it, I'll do it all over again! (tears welling in her eyes) I didn't want to hurt you, but I was and still am willing to do anything to protect this baby.
Nik: Who did you have to protect the baby from?
Gia: Helena.
Nik(stern): Start from the beginning.
So, Gia tells Nikolas how Helena had begun to visit very frequently whenever he was not home, offering Gia money to leave Nikolas, which she obviously never took. Gia explained how Helena said that if Gia told Nikolas, she would greatly regret it. Nikolas is getting more angry at Helena the longer Gia continues.
Nik: When did she find out about the baby?
Gia: I think she paid off some nurse who does all that blood pressure, note taking stuff before you see the doctor. No sooner than I get home from the doctor Helena comes to the house saying she knows about my pregnancy and that I had better get out of Port Charles or else there would be grave consequences. You know the car accident?
Nik: That wasn't an accident, was it?
Gia: No, I'm guessing Helena figured that since you hate to drive at night that I would be pulling the car around and that I would go off the cliffs and....
Nik(looking her directly in the eyes): You and our child would be dead.
Gia: Yes. (can't stop her tears) Please don't hate me, Nikolas, I wasn't left with a choice. If I had told you and we ran off, that would just give Helena more incentive to come look for me because I would've taken you from her. (puts her head in her hands, crying) I had no other way.
Not being able to stand seeing Gia in anymore pain, he wraps his arms around her and holds on tight, enjoying having her in his arms again. Nikolas rests his head on top of hers.
Nik: I don't hate you, Gia. I knew there must've been a reason why you left, but I just couldn't figure it out. (running his hand through her hair trying to calm her) Gia, it's okay.
Gia: I just never thought I'd see you again. Every night I went to sleep praying that you didn't hate me. And I tried to get over you, but with every kick this baby makes, it just made me miss you more.
Nik(pulling away, reality setting in): So, I.....I'm really going to be a father.
Gia(smiling): Yes.
Nikolas goes to put his hand on Gia'a stomach, but stops short. Gia realizes what he wants to do and nods her head in approval. When Nikolas places his hand on her stomach, the baby moves against his hand, almost like it was saying hi to him. Nikolas looks at Gia in awe.
Nik: Wow.....that's just...wow.
Gia(smiling): Yeah, I know.
Nik(sighs): God, I've missed so much.
Gia: I'm sorry...
Nik(putting a finger to her lips): You were only doing what you thought was best for our child. If you didn't leave, there's a chance you and our baby wouldn't be here. Are we having a boy or a girl?
Gia: I don't know, I wanted to be surprised.
Nik: And it's ...it's healthy and everything?
Gia: Perfectly healthy.
Nik: I just can't believe I'm really going to be a Daddy. After all that happened with Katherine...(Did Nik know Kat faked her pregnancy? I was on hiatus from GH at the time. Anyway, he knows here.)
Gia: What Katherine did to you was horrible, but this time it is for real. I think it's time for us to forget about everyone else, and concentrate on each other. (bringing her hand to the side of his face) We do, after all, have a lot of time to make up for. (smiles)
Nik: I love you, Gia.
Gia: After all I've done, you can still say that to me and mean it?
Nik: Yes, because it's true. I love you and I don't ever want to lose you again. If you ever have to go into hiding again, I'm going with you. Call me selfish, but I'm not going to risk losing you ever again.
Gia(smiles): I love you, too. (after a minute) What did I ever do to deserve you?
Nik: You know, I'm asking myself that same question.
Gia: You don't know what I did to deserve you either? (Nik laughs) You know, you still haven't kissed me yet.
Nik: Yeah, I know. I was just waiting for you to notice.
Nikolas cups Gia face in his hands and gives her a kiss that made the last 6 months disappear for the both of them. It's almost like their first kiss all over again. After a few minutes, Gia breaks away from Nikolas. She takes his hand and leads him upstairs. Where they proceed to...make up for lost time.
