What Love Overcomes Ch 3

Nik and Gia walk into Kelly's hand in hand where they find Lucky, Juan, Emily and Liz sitting around a table talking and laughing. Em and Liz smile when they see Nik, but their smiles fade when they see Gia with him.

Em: Hi, Nikolas. Hello, Gia.
Lucky(turning in his chair): Hey, guys. What's up?
Nik: Mind if we join you guys?
Juan: Sure.
Liz(standing): Wish I could stay and chat, but my shift is starting.
Gia: Come on, Lizzie, you're on break whenever we walk in but now you suddenly have to work?
Emily: Gia, why don't you just mind your own business.
Liz: You know what, Gia...
Nik(breaking it up before it gets ugly): That's enough. Liz, sit down. (She does while glaring at Gia.) Gia? (she just stares at him) Please, sit.
Gia: Fine. Can we just get this over with and tell them?
Lucky: Tell us what?
Nik: Well...(looking to Gia)..Gia and I are married. We eloped 2 nights ago.

   There was a shocked silence at the table. Emily and Liz looked surprised and furious, while Juan and Lucky looked like they weren't sure they had just heard correctly. Never one to keep her mouth shut, Gia breaks the silence.

Gia: Aren't you going to congratulate us?
Emily: Nikolas, how could you marry her?
Nik: I love her, Emily.
Liz: She's a blackmailer!
Gia: It's been almost a year, do you people still have to bring that up?
Emily: I can't believe you would go and marry someone who tried to hurt me. I thought you were my friend. (pouting)
Nik: I am your friend, Emily.
Liz: Then how could you marry someone who tried to use Em to get money? I bet that's just what she's doing with you. She'll play the role of the happy, devoted little wife, but I'd watch my back a few months from now. She'll probably try to get you for every buck you got.
Gia: I would never to that to Nikolas! I love him and he loves me and that's why we got married!
Liz: I have to work. (stomps off)
Gia: Well there's a first, Little Miss High and Mighty working at her job!
Emily: I'd much rather be at home listening to Grandfather yell than be here. Nikolas, give me a call when you dump the tramp.
   After Emily leaves, Juan and Lucky are still just sitting there not saying a word.
Nik(upset): What? You guys don't have any insults to pass Gia's way?
Lucky: Calm down, bro. Gia makes you happy. And if you guys are happy together then I guess I'm happy for you. Right, Juan?
Juan: Yeah, it's been obvious to anyone who sees you together how happy and in love you are. And Gia, while you may not be our favorite person, it's not up to anyone to have any say in your relationship with Nikolas. Call me a sap, but all that really matters is that you love each other.
Gia: You guys are kidding, right? You're not gonna stomp off like the bratty twins?
Lucky: Who are we to stand in the way of true love?
Nik(relieved): Thanks, guys. So far you are our first well wishers. Helena, Liz, and Emily obviously hate it. (cell phone rings) Hang on one-second.

   While Nik is outside on his phone, Gia takes the opportunity to question Lucky and Juan more, still not believing they are happy for her and Nikolas.

Gia: Come on, Lucky, Nikolas is outside now. What's the real deal?
Lucky(shrugs): Nothing, I said how I feel. Although, if you hurt Nikolas and are just with him for his money like Elizabeth says, you will have to deal with me.
Juan: And Elizabeth and Emily would have your head on a platter.
Gia: I could take them.
Lucky: Just don't hurt Nikolas, all right?
Gia: Yeah. I hate to disappoint you though, because I do love Nikolas and if I could feel like I do now for the rest of my life, I would die happy. (Nikolas comes back in.) Something up, Sweetie?
Nik: Ned needs me at L&B.
Gia: I thought you have today off.
Nik: I do, but I just have to go there and sign something. We were on our way over there next anyway.
Gia: Yeah, let's go get this over with. I'll wait outside. (waves at Lucky and Juan) Bye. (walks outside)
Nik: Bye, guys. And thanks for being supportive. I know you don't really like Gia, and you could've given her a really hard time like Emily and Liz.
Lucky: Hey, man, as long as she makes you happy I guess that's all that matters.
Nik: She does make me happy. I know because whenever I'm around her, I can't stop smiling. I don't want to stop smiling. I'm just so happy.
Juan: It shows. Good Luck with telling everyone else.
Nik: Thanks. See you guys later.

L&B

   Nik has just signed the contract that Ned needed him to sign and he and Gia are waiting for Alexis to come back from getting a snack to tell them about their nuptials. Ned can't help but notice that Gia and Nikolas do look awful cozy today. They've been glued at the hip since they walked in and are sitting close together, much closer than usual.
Ned: So, how are things going between you guys?
Nik: Great.
Ned: That's good, I know some people were giving you trouble when they found out that you're dating.
Gia: Well, the dating issue isn't really a problem anymore.
Ned: What do you mean?

   Alexis comes downstairs carrying a bag of chips in her hands. She smiles when she sees Gia and Nikolas and walks right over to them.

Alexis: Hi, guys.
Gia: Hey, Alexis. How's the baby doing?
Alexis: He's doing great. (Ned and Alexis are having a boy.) Just very hungry, though. (shaking her head) I can't believe how much I eat. But it's mostly healthy food though. So, what brings you guys here?
Nik: I had to sign a contract for Ned. Also, Gia and I...we have some news to share.
Alexis(munching away on her chips): Good news?
Nik: To us it is, but other people don't really think so.
Alexis: Well, what is it?
Nik(grabbing Gia's hand): Gia and I are married.
Alexis: What?
Nik(talking fast): We eloped 2 nights ago. And we're really happy and I really love her if that's what you're worried about....
Alexis: Nikolas, slow down. I'm not upset, in fact, I couldn't be happier for you.
Nik(completely surprised): You what? You're nephew just told you he eloped with a girl he's only been dating for a few months, did something totally impulsive and you're happy?
Alexis: Yes, I'm thrilled. In fact, this calls for a celebration. How about dinner at the Grille tonight?
Gia: Tonight might not be too good.
Alexis: Okay then, tomorrow night. I'll go make reservations now.

   Alexis leaves the room with a huge smile on her face. Nik looks truly confused. He totally expected Alexis to jump all over him and say that he rushed into it, he's too young, etc. Instead, she says she couldn't be happier?

Nik: Okay, who was that person and what did she do to Alexis? She looks like Alexis and sounds like Alexis, but that sure isn't her.
Ned: It's the pregnancy. Most of her mood swings have been happy ones. She gets happy when you think she's going to be upset and vice versa. If I were to just say I was having an affair, she would probably be happy that I made a new friend. So, you guys are married?
Gia: Yes.
Ned: Since you're probably not going to hear this from Alexis, at least not yet, I'll cover all of what you were expecting her to say. (changes his demeanor, starts pacing) Are you out of your minds?! You have only been dating a few months. That's hardly any time to decide whether you want to spend the rest of you life with someone! Plus, you're too young!
Nik: I'm 21 years old and I can get married if I want to. True, we didn't date for very long, but it was enough time for us to realize we love each other and want to spend the rest of our lives together. I don't care how you feel, but we are happy and in love.
Ned(sits down, smiles): Feel better?
Nik(sighs): Much. Thanks.
Ned: But seriously, are you guys sure you know what you're getting into? I mean, marriage is a big step. You guys kinda just jumped into something most people think long and hard about doing.
Gia: I don't see what the big deal is. We're in love, shouldn't that be all that matters?
Ned: I just don't want to see you guys end up getting hurt. What if you guys were to wake up one morning and decided that you didn't love each other anymore? Or you got into a fight that couldn't be fixed which would lead to a break up?
Gia: Right now we're just trying to get past telling everyone. After that we're taking it one day at a time. We know it's gonna be a struggle, but we're prepared for it. We wouldn't have said "I do" if we didn't think we were ready.
Nik: So, are you happy for us or do you think that we made the biggest mistake of our lives?
Ned: I can't tell you what to do. You guys are old enough to make up your minds, and if you love each other enough to get married, then I guess I'm happy for you.
Gia(hugs Ned): Thanks, Ned.
Nik(shakes Ned's hand): Yeah, thanks.
Ned: If I were you, I'd get out of here before Alexis realizes that you said you got married and blows up at you. It takes a little bit, but once she realizes what is said, she'll be ready for a fight.
Nik: I thought that was too easy. Bye.

   No sooner do Nik and Gia leave, does Alexis storm into the room ranting, a furious look on her face.

Alexis: You got married! You and Gia haven't been dating that long and it takes longer than a few months to decide you want to be together forever. I mean, it took me and Ned 4 years to get married! (sees they aren't there) Where did they go?!
Ned: They had to leave.
Alexis: Can you believe they got married? I can't believe Nikolas would rush into something like that?
Ned(holding up her chips): Have a chip, Dear.
Alexis(grabs the bag): Thanks. (quiets down and starts munching on the chips again) So, do you think Nikolas and Gia will be free for dinner tomorrow night? I made reservations but they didn't give me a definite answer.

   Ned just burst out laughing, causing Alexis to glare at him, very confused.

Alexis: What? Do I have a chip on my face?
Ned(trying to calm down): No, you're just too much.

Nik and Gia's car......

Gia: So, who's left to tell?
Nik: Your mother and brother.
Gia: Do we have to? They hate the fact that we were dating, their only gonna be furious once they know that we got married. Especially Marcus.
Nik: Well, tough. We're here.
Gia: Wait, I just remembered that there's something on TV I wanted to watch.
Nik: Gia, after this we still have to tell Stefan and then my mother.
Gia: Why did we save the parents for last? We know they're gonna take it the hardest and overreact the worst. Couldn't we just send them a postcard?
Nik: When did you lose your spine? The Gia I love doesn't back away from any situation, no matter how difficult.
Gia: I guess I just need a little reassurance.

   Without warning, Nikolas takes Gia in his arms ands kisses her. When she finally breaks the kiss for air, she see the huge smile on Nik's face.

Nik: That reassurance enough for you?
Gia: Yeah. Let's go before I change my mind again.

   After knocking on the door, Gia tries to leave after there is not an immediate answer, but Nik stops her.

Nik: I wasn't like this when we told Alexis. And trust me, Alexis is tough.
Gia: I know, but you don't know my Mom or Marcus too well.

   Just then the door opens and Lydia Taggert smiles seeing her daughter, but doesn't look all that pleased seeing her with Nikolas.

Lydia: Gia, Nikolas come in. Gia, is something the matter?
Gia: No, Mom. Why would you say that?
Lydia: It's just the way you sounded on the phone when you want both Marcus and myself to be here.
Gia: Um, no. Everything's just great.
Taggert: Did they get here yet? Hey, Gia. Hi, Nikolas.
Nik: Hi.
Marcus: So, what did you want to tell us?
Gia: First, I want you to promise not to overreact, especially you, Marcus.
Marcus: Do I ever overreact? (Gia eyes him.) Fine.
Gia: Nikolas and I are married.

   In a instant, Taggert stands up and punches Nikolas in the face, sending him to the ground like a ton of bricks. Gia slaps her brother across the face and hurries to tend to her husband.

Gia: Nikolas, are you okay. Marcus, what the hell were you thinking?! Why did you hit him?
Marcus: You're only 19. You are too young to get married, young lady! You're not pregnant, are you?!
Gia: No!
Lydia: That's enough! Marcus, go get an ice pack. NOW!
Gia: No, we're leaving. We don't need any ice from you.
Lydia: Gia, you're not seeing this from our points of view. You are only 19 years old, that's hardly old enough to decide that you're ready to get married.
Gia: You were 16 when you first got married, so I don't think you have any room to say anything, mother.
Lydia: Yes, I was 16, but you don't see what I'm saying. I thought I was ready when I married Marcus's father, but I wasn't and when the marriage ended, I was heartbroken. I just don't want you to end up hurt like I did.
Nik(starting to regain his senses again, tries to sit up): I'm not going to hurt Gia. I love her very much.
Lydia: You say that now, but what's going to happen 2 years from now and you want a divorce? Let's say you have a child by then, also. What are you going to do then?
Gia: Okay, let's think about something totally opposite here. Let's say me and Nik stay married and live happily ever after? (mocking shock) Now there's a good idea. Why don't you want me to be happy?
Marcus: We do, but marrying rich boy isn't the answer.
Gia: That's it, we're outta here. Can't you stand up, Nikolas?
Nik(standing): Yeah, let's go.
Lydia(quietly): Gia? (Gia turns) You'll understand where I'm coming from and when your heart gets broken, I'll be here.
Gia: Good-bye.

   Gia manages to get Nikolas safely to the car before she has a chance to fully inspect his eye. When she gets a good look at his eye, she can tell he's going to have a huge black eye for a little while.

Gia: Damn, Marcus.
Nik: It's not that bad. I'm beginning to regain the feeling back into my cheekbone. (thinking) You know, maybe it would be best to wait until tomorrow to tell my parents.
Gia: Sorry, we can't. You told them to meet us at the cottage in 10 minutes. But after that, everyone who needs to know the most knows and we can put this whole day behind us. I'll drive.

   Finally they were back at their cottage, ready to tell the Stefan and Laura about the wedding. They were so tired from telling everyone else, they don't really care what people think anymore.

Gia: We're here.
Nik: I know. Let's go and get this over with.

   When they get inside Stefan is sitting on the couch and Laura is by the window where she was looking out for them. What Nikolas and Gia don't know is that Stefan and Laura already know about the wedding. They left some papers from the chapel on the coffee table and Stefan and Laura read them.

Gia: Hey, guys.
Laura: Nikolas, what happened to your eye?
Nik: It's a long story, but I'm sure you'll understand once you hear what we have to say.
Stefan: You got married.
Gia: How do you know? (Stefan holds up the papers.) You went looking through our stuff?
Stefan: They were on the table we just happened to see them. What one earth were you thinking? You are too young to get married?
Nik: I'm 21 years old, Uncle, I am legally old enough to do anything.
Stefan: I can't believe that you would marry her.
Gia: And just what is wrong with me?
Stefan: Nothing, I'm sure you're a very lovely young lady, but the fact is, Nikolas is a Cassadine.
Gia: Oh, I get it, just because you are this distinguished, rich, powerful family, and I'm a ghetto girl..
Stefan: A what?
Gia: A city kid, from the streets? Your in America now, Cassadine, learn the lingo.
Nik: Uncle I love Gia and she makes me happy. Nothing you say will change my mind.
Stefan: Well, then I guess I don't have anything else to say to you, good-bye Nikolas.
Laura(after Stefan leaves): I'm sure he'll cool off after he's had some time to absorb this information.
Gia: Aren't you upset?
Laura: I know what it's like to be young and in love. I got married young, and although it didn't work for me, that doesn't mean that your marriage will end. I've seen you guys out in public a few times and I see how happy you make each other, and that makes me happy for you. I wish I could've seen the wedding, but seeing you happy makes up for that.
Gia(relieved, hugs Laura): Oh, thank you. I think you are the one person who has been truly happy for us all day. Ned, Alexis, Lucky, and Juan were supportive and kinda happy, but not too overwhelming, well, except for Alexis, but Ned said her hormones are outta whack. Liz and Emily were awful, my mother says we'll definitely end up divorced, Marcus hit Nikolas, and well, you saw how Stefan reacted. Just thank you. I really needed to hear someone be truly happy.
Nik: Yeah, it's quiet refreshing from what else we've heard today.
Laura: Well, you're happy and in love, I think that's enough. (checking her watch) I have to go. I'll talk to you guys later.
Gia(smiling): You bet you will.
Nik: Bye.

   As soon as Laura's gone, Nikolas collapses on the couch, exhausted.
Gia: Do you need to go to the hospital?
Nik: For a black eye? No, I'm fine. This day was just exhausting,
Gia: I'll get you an ice pack.
Nik(laying down): Thanks, Babe.

   By the time Gia comes back with the ice, Nikolas is sound asleep. So she lays down next to him and holds the ice pack on his face, sleeping or not she wants the swelling to go down. Gia cuddles up next to him and they fall asleep, putting this crazy day behind them.
