A few weeks later......

First, here's a brief review of what's been going on these few weeks: Ned and Alexis have come to fully accept Nikolas's and Gia's marriage and now support them 100%. Stefan is slowly warming to Gia, but still, doesn't like the fact that Nikolas got married behind his back. Also, Ned and Alexis are anxiously awaiting the birth of their son, who is due in a month. Nikolas, not feeling safe about Gia being home alone during the day, adopted a guard dog named, Calypso, for protection in case Helena comes to see Gia when he isn't there.

Nik and Gia's cottage......

Gia is in the living room, which is completely torn apart at the moment. She has decided, much to Nikolas's chagrin, to redecorate the cottage on her own. She is refilling her paint bucket when she hears the loud barking from her Great Dane, Calypso, who had been sleeping outside on the front steps. Calypso was trained to bark when anyone came near the house, but especially one person in particular, Helena. Gia opens the front door and finds Helena standing a few feet away from the house, being kept at bay by Calypso.

Gia: Come here, girl. It's okay...sit. (Calypso does as she's told.) Good girl. (turns her attention to Helena) What are you doing here?
Helena(cautiously walking closer): I just came to have a chat with my new granddaughter-in-law. Is that a crime?
Gia: Cut the crap, Helena. Why don't you just say what you came here to say.

Helena wants to give Gia a piece of her mind and the warning she came here to deliver, but she totally forgot her true purpose here when Calypso started barking. No one knows this, but Helena has a fear of dogs, especially big dogs. It's a fear she's had her whole life and no matter how powerful she is or how evil she is, she will never like dogs. Gia notices this and starts to smile. The fearless, evil, dangerous Helena Cassadine is afraid dogs....that's too funny.

Gia: What's the matter, Grandma Cassadine? Why don't you step up onto the porch?
Helena(trying to keep her cool): I'm fine right here.
Gia: Calypso, go in the house. (pointing to the door) Go.

Before Calypso went into the house, she growled at Helena one more time, as if giving her a warning not to mess with her family. When Helena heard the growl, she jumped back with fear, causing Gia to burst out laughing.

Gia: Let's just skip the pleasantries, tell me the real reason that you came here.
Helena: Simple, terminate your marriage to Nikolas immediately.
Gia: I don't think so, Granny.
Helena: Don't call me that. And that wasn't a request, that was a demand. If you do not divorce Nikolas, you will suffer the consequences.
Gia: And what kind of consequences would those be?
Helena: Do you really want to know?
Gia: Yes.
Helena: I'll get rid of you. I'll right you a check to leave Nikolas right now. Just tell me the dollar amount. (takes out her checkbook) How much?
Gia: Look, I already told you, Granny, I'm not leaving Nikolas and no amount of money or threats from you will ever change my mind!
Helena: I will not have some street rat hoodlum in my family, also someone who doesn't exactly fit in.
Gia: You mean because I'm black. You know, I never pegged you to be a racist, I just figured you hated everyone the same. Get out of my home, now.
Helena: I'll give you one more chance. My checkbook is in my hands.
Gia: Good for you. I'd put it back before someone steals it. You know me bein' a street rat hoodlum, I know that punks just love to pick on mean old bags.
Helena: I'll leave for now, but I will be back, you can count on it. Oh, if you decide to tell Nikolas about my little visit here today....
Gia: You wouldn't hurt Nikolas, would you?
Helena: Of course not. He is my grandson and I love him.
Gia: If you love him so much you should be able to accept the fact that he loves me and that I make him happy.
Helena: Nikolas may be fooled by his lust for you, but trust me, that lust will be temporary and in the end, you will be left with a broken heart. Take the money now before you get hurt, although nothing would make me happier than to see you suffer, but your pain will be much less if you take the cash now.
Gia: How many times do I have to tell you I'm not taking your damn money?! Get out of my home, NOW!
Helena: Fine, I'll go...for now. But mark my word, I will be back.

Helena quickly gets off the porch and gets to her awaiting car as quickly as possible, just in case the hoodlum decided to free the mutt.

*********************************************** That night at Luke's......

Gia is walking into Luke's looking around for Nikolas, Ned, or Alexis. Tonight is the debut performance of L&B's newest artist, Aimee Johannsen. They haven't finished writing her original songs, but they just want to get her on a stage and see how the crowd takes to her. She sees Juan at a back table looking over some papers and makes her way to him.

Gia: Hey, Juan.
Juan(looks up, smiles): Hi, Gia.
Gia: Is somethin' the matter? You're a wreck.
Juan: Ned just told me that I'm going to be opening tonight. I thought he was but he now says I am. I hate when he pulls these last minute things on me.
Gia: Well if you did your own shows, you wouldn't have to be the opening act. You've been the opening act for a year now, if you're really serious about a singing career, don't you think it's time you stop being the appetizer and start being the main course?
Juan: When did you become so supportive of me and my singing?
Gia(shrugs): I don't know. I guess I figure it's been a year since I've been here and I gotta stop holding these stupid grudges about blackmailing, dead people....let's just not go there anymore. You and Lucky are coming around but the bratty twins....
Juan: See the name calling might have something to do with it.
Gia: I don't call them that to their faces. Besides, it's not like it's a lie. (looks around) Do you know where Nikolas is?
Juan: Luke was letting him and Ned use his office to talk Aimee out of her stage fright.
Gia: Thanks. See you later.

Gia goes into Luke's office where she sees Aimee sitting on the desk, Nik and Ned standing on either side of her, and Alexis sitting at the desk.
Gia: Knock, knock.
Nik(smiling): Hey, Sweetie. Look, Aimee you have to sing. There's people out there who came to see you.
Aimee: Yeah, lots of people. I wasn't expecting that many. I don't know if I can do this.
Ned: Aimee, just picture it at the recording studio. You're singing and the only people in the room with you are myself, Nikolas, Juan, and Alexis. Just pay attention to us and no one else.
Gia: Looks like you guys could use some help.
Ned(walking over to Gia): Gia, if you can get Aimee to go out there and sing, I'll owe you. Anything you want, just please talk to her.
Gia: All right. Everyone out. Let me talk to her. (everyone leaves) Hey, Aimee. I'm Gia.
Aimee: Oh, your Nikolas's wife?
Gia: Yeah.
Aimee: He talks about you constantly. How long have you been married?
Gia: A little more than a month. Aimee, stop beating around the bush, you have to go out there and sing tonight.
Aimee: Boy, you don't beat around the bush, do you?
Gia: What's the point of it? If I got something to say, I'm going to say it. You have stage fright, but the only way to overcome it is to go out there on that stage.
Aimee: I can't.
Gia(sighing): Aimee, I didn't want to have to do this, but I'm going to have to tell you a story. See, when I was 10 years old, I decided to try out for the school play.
Aimee: Did you get in?
Gia(confident): Not only did I make the cut, but I got the lead part. Anyway, weeks went by of learning lines, practicing, dress rehearsals...the works. All that time goes by and I'm fine. I have no problem getting up on that stage in front of my friends and the teacher. Then it came time for the actual play...no more rehearsing, this was the real deal.
Aimee: Were you scared?
Gia: I was petrified! I made the mistake of peeking out from behind the curtain to see if I could see my Mom and brother in the audience. There was so many people I just froze up. When it was time for the curtain to go up, I convinced myself I couldn't do it. Then I tried telling that to my teacher/director, Miss Shaw. She wasn't upset that I had stage fright, she said she understood, but that there was no way I was getting out of that play. I tried every trick in the book: faked getting sick, said I couldn't remember my lines...anything. Then she told me something I remember to this very day. She said, "Gia, seeing all those people out there is scary, but you have a gift and you should share it with them. You wanted to do this in the first place, so there's no backing out at the last minute. If you back out of this play, which could be a truly wonderful experience, how many other things will you wimp out on in your life?"
Aimee: Wow, that's powerful.
Gia: Yeah. Now, what are you going to do? If you don't go out on that stage and sing right now, how many other important things are you going to skip out on in your life?
Aimee: You're right. I have to do this. (stands up) You're going to be out there, right?
Gia: Yep. I'll be right out there. Let's go.

Aimee and Gia walk out of the office and see Juan standing on stage finishing up his song. Ned sees Aimee and rushes over to her.

Ned: So?
Aimee: I'm going to sing. I can do it.
Ned: Great. Just go sit by Alexis and Nikolas. You're up after Juan finishes up his next song.
Aimee: Okay.
Ned: How did you do that?
Gia(mischivious smile): Secret. (sees Emily and Liz come into the club) Oh, great.
Ned(turning): What? Don't tell me you still don't get along with Emily and Elizabeth?
Gia: Ned, we have never liked each other. I can understand why they don't like me, if I were them, I wouldn't be too fond of me either back then. But it's almost a year later and I'm trying to change some...partly...a little...all right but I'm trying more than them.
Ned: What I don't get is what happened that made them hate you so much?
Gia: Trust me, Ned, you don't want to know. I don't particularly look too good in the story.
Ned: You're right, I don't want to know, just don't go start something here.
Gia: I'll try to ignore them...
Ned: You will ignore them.
Gia: Fine, now let's go sit down before Aimee starts to think we're not going to watch her and decides to skip the show.

A short while later......

Alexis: Gia, how's painting the living room going?
Gia: Great. Except Calypso thinks that she should help and all she does is get in the way. I think I spilled paint on her twice today.
Alexis: I can't believe Nikolas is letting you change the house especially when he isn't there.
Nik: Trust me, Nikolas can't believe it either, considering he really detests change...(glances at Gia and takes her hand)..most change, that is.
Gia(smiling): Aren't you sweet?
Alexis: I think that's my cue to give you some privacy.
Nik: No, Alexis, you don't have to leave.
Alexis: Oh, I know, I just thought that was more graceful than saying if I don't go to the bathroom now I'm going to have an accident. (tries to get up) Help me, Nikolas.

After being helped up, Alexis waddles to the bathroom like nothing else, leaving Nikolas and Gia alone for the first time all day.

Gia(laughing): Alexis is hysterical.
Nik: Yeah, pregnancy has definitely made her more fun. Not that she wasn't fun before but...it's just different. Maybe because she's finally happy, and that's something nice to see. Alexis thought she'd never truly be happy in her life, something always stood in the way of her happiness. I'm glad Helena has decided to leave her alone and now she can concentrate on being happy with Ned and a good mother to that little boy once he's born. She definitely deserves it. (Gia looks at him funny) What?
Gia: I didn't know when I married you that you would turn into a sap. I don't know if I like the idea of you being a sappy mess all the time.
Nik(laughing): First of all, I am not going to be sappy all the time. Anyway, those rare occasions where I am sappy all already reserved for you and Alexis. You two are the most important women in my life, including my mother and sister of course.
Gia: Well, I'm sure Lulu and Laura would be happy to hear that.
Nik(gets a feeling): Did something happen today?
Gia: No. Why would you think anything did?
Nik: Just the way you're acting...there's something wrong. Did Helena come to the house today?
Gia(afraid of Helena's threat, lies): No. I haven't seen Helena since the last time a couple months ago when I was this close to decking her and you stopped me.
Nik: Gia?
Gia: I'm telling the truth, Nikolas. What would I have to gain by lying to you, especially about Helena?
Nik: Nothing. If she comes anywhere near you, tell me right away. She is not something to be taken lightly and neither are her threats. And I'll be damned if I let her do something to you.
Gia(touching the side of his face): Nik, calm down. Helena didn't come to visit today. I may seem a little off because I'm tired from painting and chasing after Calypso, okay?
Nik: All right. I'm sorry, for jumping on you, but Helena is dangerous and I don't want you anywhere near her. As for you being tired, we'll be leaving soon. I'm just going to talk to Lucky for a few minutes. You want to walk over with me?
Gia: I think it would be best if I kept my distance from the bratty twins.
Nik(trying to ignore her little nickname for Liz and Emily): You're right. I'll be right back.

As Nikolas walks away, Gia think about what he said, "She is not something to be taken lightly and neither are her threats." What should she do? If she tells Nikolas about Helena's visit and Helena finds out, Helena could hurt Nikolas or herself. But if Gia lies and says nothing about Helena's visits, Nikolas could find out and be angry at her for lying to him, especially after all the warning he has given her about Helena. For right now, Gia decided to keep quiet about Helena, but deep inside she's not sure if that's the best thing for herself or Nikolas.
