What Love Overcomes Ch 8

A few days later......
Luke is sitting at his desk in his office reading the newspaper with some
of that funky music he likes in the background and drinking from his stash of
good whiskey. He is enjoying finally getting the chance to relax when he
hears a knock at his door. Annoyed, he turns the radio off and hides the
whiskey, just in case it was Laura and he promised he wouldn't drink too much
anymore, and stomps over to the door. He is very surprised to find Gia on the
other side.
Luke: Hey, Braids. What can I do for you?
Gia: I need your help. Can I come in?
Luke(stepping aside): Sure. (walking to his desk) What's up? You look like
your dog bit the dust, so it must be serious.
Gia: You heard about what happened to Nikolas the other day at the picnic?
Luke: Yeah, what about it?
Gia: And I'm sure you heard about the police reports that said the break
wires were cut but they didn't know by who.
Luke: Uh-huh, what's the point? I'm sure you didn't come here to inform me of
the latest news.
Gia: I know who did it. Well, I mean I have a pretty good idea of who did
it....no I know.
Luke: You sure you know?
Gia: It was Helena.
Luke(makes a face): Helena? Are you sure? Because I know the Old Witch pretty
well, and there's only 2 people she never would've hurt ever that's Stavros
and Nikolas. I can't imagine her ever wanting to get rid of Nikolas.
Gia: It wasn't Nik she after, it was me.
Luke: Why you?
Gia: For one, she hates me. She's come to my home several times and offered
me money to leave Nikolas.
Luke: Why are you still here then?
Gia: No amount of money could ever make me leave Nikolas. I love him with all
my heart. Anyway, things got much more complicated about a week ago. I found
out that I'm pregnant.
Luke: You're pregnant with a Cassadine? I'm sure that must've gone over real
well with Helena and Count Vlad.
Gia: Helena's the only one that knows.
Luke: You mean you haven't told the little prince yet? You told his evil,
bloodsucking grandmother first?
Gia: No. Shortly after I came home from the doctor's office she showed up at
my door saying that she knew I was pregnant. I think she paid off a nurse who
told her my results, anyway, she said she'd give me one more chance to take
her money and run. When I still refused, she said that I would have to pay
dire consequences and that I would suffer immensely.
Luke: So basically, you think that death trap was meant for you and your kid?
Gia: I have no doubt in my mind that Helena tried to kill me and my child,
which means there's only one thing left for me to do. Do you remember that
night Nik and I had dinner at your house and you said that if I ever needed
help with Helena to come to you?
Luke: Yeah.
Gia: Well, that was the day I found out I was pregnant....and I need your
help. I don't want to do this, God knows I don't, but I have to leave town.
(tries not to cry) I have to get out of here before Helena makes anymore
attempts to kill my baby.
Luke: Why don't you just tell Nikolas what's going on?
Gia: Helena said if I did, I would only make things worse for my baby. If Nik
knows, then he'll confront Helena, and then there's no telling what she'll do
to me. I need you to help me leave town without leaving any hints as to where
I'm going. I also need help finding a place Helena won't look. I hear you
have experience in running off.
Luke: Let's see....when do you want to leave?
Gia: I don't know, but the sooner the better.
Luke: Tomorrow?
Gia: No. Nik is coming home from the hospital tomorrow and he's going back to
work the next day. He insists he'll be fine to go to work. I want to give him
one more romantic, special night for him to remember before I break his
heart. (tears come) I have to do this one more special thing for him.
Luke: I think it's more for yourself, don't you? This way while you're hidden
away from the world you can think of it.
Gia: Yeah. So, um...how about I leave in 3 days? Tomorrow he comes home from
the hospital, the next will be our last...(gets a little emotional)...our
last night together, and then the day after that I can leave when he's at
work. Three days is okay, right?
Luke: Sure. This way I have a little more time to get a place ready for you
and have some of my men get all of the supplies you'll need.
Gia(chuckles): Your men?
Luke: Of course. A man like me needs to have some guys around who won't mind
doing all of the really dirty work.
Gia: Do you know where you're taking me?
Luke: Already have the perfect place.
Gia: Where?
Luke: It might be best if you didn't know. You could slip up.
Gia: I have to know where I'm going. Tell me.
Luke: I'm sure Laura has told you about the house we have in Switzerland,
right?
Gia: I think so. You're taking me there?
Luke: To Switzerland, yes, but not to that house, there's too much of a
chance you'd be seen. But I have a cabin that's a few miles further up in the
mountains that I used to keep an on my family without them knowing.
Gia: You spied on your family?
Luke: No, protected them. You know, just in case any stray Cassadines tried
to get to my wife, daughter, and mother-in-law.
Gia: And you just fed Lucky to the sharks? That would definitely explain his
attitude problem.
Luke: No, he would stay here most of the time with Bobbie and Lucas.
Gia: What is the cabin like? Size wise and stuff.
Luke: It's big enough for you to stay in comfortably for quite a while.
Gia: About that, how long do you think I'll have to stay hidden?
Luke: When do you think your baby will be out of danger from Helena?
Gia: When Helena's burning in Hell.
Luke: Well, then you'll be there for a while.
Gia(checks her watch): I have to get back to the hospital, I told Nikolas I
would be back 20 minutes ago. I can't have him worry, can I? (bites her
bottom lip) I'll be hurting him enough and making him worry in a couple of
days. I can't believe I'm going to do this.
Luke: No arrangements have been made, you can still call it off.
Gia: No. I refuse to put my child at risk, no matter what. The only thing
I'll regret is that Nikolas won't get a chance to be apart of his child's
life. That's going to kill me.
Luke: So, why not tell Prince Nikki what's going on and the two...pardon me,
the three of you can run off together.
Gia: That would give Helena more of an incentive to look for me. I would be
taking Nikolas away from her. She doesn't care about me and would figure I
took her advice if I disappeared, but if Nikolas came with...she claims to
love Nikolas very much and no doubt would search for him. Thank you for
agreeing to help me get away.
Luke: You know I'll do anything to get at Helena. I'll have a lawyer draw up
divorce papers and you can sign and mail them right before we leave so the
postmark is still Port Charles. (Gia looks pale) What's wrong?
Gia: I didn't think about divorce. (sighs) Til death do us part, that's what
we promised each other. Now I'm breaking that promise...along with his heart.
Luke(puts his arm around her shoulders): You don't have to do this. You can
get bodyguards and all sorts of protection.
Gia: Do you think a bodyguard would stop Helena from getting to me? (Luke
shakes his head.) Then I have to leave. Just make sure the lawyer gives
Nikolas everything. I have to go. Thanks for all your help, Luke. I'll call
you, don't call me. Don't want to risk Nik answering. Bye.
Luke: See you, Braids.

At the hospital......
Gia is walking down the hall toward Nik's room, her whole conversation
with Luke going through her heard. She can't believe she is actually going to
do this, she is going to leave the love of her life. True it's best for the
baby, but that doesn't mean it makes the decision any easier for her. Gia
hears voices and laughter coming form Nikolas's room so instead on walking
in, she just takes a peak to see who's visiting. Inside she sees Ned, Alexis,
and baby Daniel visiting with Nikolas. She watches Nikolas take Daniel from
Alexis and cradle the baby close to himself, quietly talking to him. Gia
listens to the conversation in the room.
Ned: Nikolas, where did Gia run off to? She's been here ever since the
accident.
Nik: She said she had some errands to take care of. She should be back soon.
(to Daniel) Hey, Buddy. You're about the cutest baby I've ever seen. You got
your Mommy's face, that's for sure. Her mean glare, at least. (smiles at
Alexis)
Alexis: Hey! I don't have a mean glare. (Ned and Nikolas stifle laughs) Well.
Come to Mommy, Daniel. I can see your cousin is already going to be a bad
influence. As if your father wasn't bad enough. (Nikolas hands the baby back
over.)
Nik: So, do you feel like a real Mommy yet?
Alexis: Not quite. I don't think it will happen until I get home tomorrow and
there's no nurses to take him when I'm tired and he won't stop crying.
Nik: Well, me and Gia will be more than happy to baby-sit for you at anytime.
Alexis: Good, I'll be counting on it.
Nik: He is just so adorable you guys. I can't wait until Gia and I have a
baby.
Ned: You're thinking about having a baby already? Isn't it a little soon?
Nik: We haven't really talked about it, the only time we did we said we
wanted to wait a few years. But after this accident and now seeing you guys
with Daniel, I think maybe now would be a good time to have a baby. I've
always wanted to have kids, maybe all this was a sign that the time is now.
After hearing that, Gia runs away from his room as fast as her feet can
carry her. She doesn't stop running until she gets outside. She goes and sits
on a bench where no one else is around and just starts to cry. How was she
going to do this? Is there any way she will be able to get through these next
three days without losing it? And now after she's seen Nikolas with Daniel
and heard how much he wants children.......but she has to do this. She wants
to keep her baby safe, no matter what. Even if it breaks Nikolas's heart.
