Whose
Line Is It Anyway?: While some series not only survived, but
prospered
opposite "Survivor" (see Gilmore Girls), some collapsed. "Whose Line?"
was one of those shows.
Though its 8pm edition (7.0 mil- 80th) took a hit, losing 19% of its
viewers,
the 8:30 edition fared even worse, falling from its 40-something
position
all the way down to 79th. Drawing some 7.4 million viewers, its sweeps
performance was down almost 30% from the regular season. And with
"Survivor"
likely growing until the end, things aren't looking good.
Bette:
Things started
off promising for this show last fall, but things have turned downright
ugly ever since. It's all the
way down in 81st place, averaging just 6.7
million viewers. It's down 28% and its timeslot partner "Welcome To New
York" has already had its unwelcoming. And just premiering last week
was
its new buddy, gay-com "Some of My Best Friends." The result? Just 7
million
takes. Do I hear Dr. Kevorkian at the door?
Two Guys &
A Girl:
It's over... this series brief tenure with hit status- and a life.
Things weren't
promising this fall when ABC moved this once hit to Fridays, and now
things
are even worse. Despite having a "Millionaire" lead-in for the first
half
of sweeps, this loser couldn't get above 6 million viewers in 83rd
place.
That may have only been off 10% from its regular season performance,
but
when you're this low, there's not much more room to go down. It was
already
sweeps' second lowest rated series on the big 4.
Frasier/Three
Sisters:
"Dharma & Greg" (12.1 mil- 44th) may not have had much mite
this season,
but it had enough to give "Frasier" a good scare. The show didn't come
close enough to beat the bohemoth, but it knock it down 9% off it's
season
average. Sweeps saw the sitcom siting in 23rd place with 15.1 million
viewers.
As for it's partner- February wasn't a very kind month. It fell down
the
list to 43rd after a top 15 start, slipping to 12.2 million viewers.
That
was down 12% of it's short season average. Looks like viewers actually
started listening to critics over the universally panned series.
The Geena Davis
Show:
This one has been pretty much a dud from the start, but never moreso
than in February. "Dharma & Greg" may have been undergoing somewhat
of a renaissance, but "Geena" fell flat. Sinking to 64th, the series
drew
just 9.3 million viewers during sweeps. That was down 12% from its
season
average, sinking 21 places below its NBC competition. Better luck on
the
silver screen, Davis. That was a joke.
