Family
Affair (WB,
Thursday 8pm. Premieres September 12th)
What It's About: Based on the 1966-1971 sitcom, a Manhattan bachelor and his butler have three girls thurst upon them. The WB says it has a "90s twist" and the "WB flare." Just like "Off Centre." Who's Behind It: The executive producers are pedigreed in younger series (Boy Meets World, Smart Guy, Family Matters, ect.). It stars Tim Curry as the butler, and Gary Cole as the bachelor. Unfair Grace Even Before Watching: D+ Premiere Prediction: 3.7mil The Reason: Viewers
may or may not show up. Given the WB's track record with sitcoms last season,
they just might not. But tell them an all new "Gilmore Girls" is airing
here, and then surprize them with "Family Affair," and you just might have
something...
Do Over (WB, Thursday 8:30pm. (Premieres September 19th) What It's About: Joel
Larson is 34 years old. Joel Larson is unmarried and dissatified. Joel
Larson
Who's Behind It: Warren Littlefield is one of the exec producers, the stars are small time tv leftovers. Unfair Grace Even Before Watching: C Premiere Prediction: 3.4mil The Reason: See "Family Affair." And plus, there's a plethora of these "back to the past" shows airing, why would viewers want another shoved down their throats?
The Jamie Kennedy Experiment (WB, Thursday 9pm. Premieres September 19th) What's Happening: JK, The huckster himself, sets up even more elaborate pranks. Where It's Been: Started last January on Sunday to mediorce ratings. Became the sole highlight of an otherwise hellish night for the WB. Actually renewed, it got moved to Thursdays, where repeats during the summer actually outdrew the originals. Last Season's High: 4.0mil (January 9, 2002) Premiere Prediction: 4.3mil The Reason: Call me crazy (everybody else does), but I think the WB is gonna have a big Thursday hit on its hands. Especially if JK gets to do some pranks with Rosie O'Donnell, as he's trying to set up.
Off Centre (WB, Thursday 9:30pm. Premieres September 19th) What's Happening: Who Cares? Where It's Been: One of the worst shows on the air last fall, it started out to almost zero ratings, and never moved. Why the WB renewed it, god only knows. It's the worst renewal decision I've ever seen (outside "The Drew Carey Show"). Last Season's High: 2.9mil (January 9, 2002) Premiere Prediction: 2.8mil The Reason: If the WB wants to have a successful Thursday slate, this has got to be cancelled, pronto.
