The Bernie
Mack Show: Sure
it had critical raves, but what has that ever meant on Fox? Apparently
alot
in this case, as "The Bernie Mack Show" is tv's top new series.
Premiering
with 12.7mil, it has since slipped below the 10mil mark, but not my
much.
It's also running second in its slot, ahead of one time hit "The Drew
Carey
Show." It also comes very close to "The West Wing" in adults. If Fox
indeed
does have a future (and with ratings losses high so far this season),
this
show will be leading the way.
Reba:The
star driven vehicle is dead, said everybody. "Reba" is a horrible show,
critics panned. But viewers
didn't bite- the reviews that is. Now sitting at 4.5mil viewers, it's
the
WB's biggest sitcom hit ever, frequently breaking the 5 million viewer
mark. It also proved that sitcoms can survive on Fridays (something
that
CBS and ABC have both tried valiently to disprove in recent years),
that
is if they click with the avaliable audience. Rock on, "Reba."
Enterprise: Everybody
knew this show was going to do well, but the UPN has to be pleasantly
surprised
as to how well. After debuted to 12.5mil, the show did slip, but
usually
not below the 7mil mark. It's also
up 52% over what "Voyager" was doing last season, single handedly
reviving
the "Trek" franchise. What will the next "Trek" be? We're betting that
the UPN is hoping to rush it to the air, to air it on one of the nights
that isn't work. And on the UPN there's only one- Friday.
Smallville: Another
show everybody thought would do well, "Smallville" could have easily
slipped
far below the 8.8mil it drew for it's premiere. But ti hasn't. The last
new episode was only 12% behind the premiere, a very good sign. And the
show is also helping to drive the last nail into the coffin of
"Roswell."
Maybe even "24" on Fox.
Law &
Order: Criminal
Intent:This
show was a no-brainer. With "Law & Order" frequently slipping into
the top 8 and "SVU" reaching record numbers, of course a fourth "Order"
would do well. But NBC's vision to air it on Sundays where the net has
had so many problems was pure genious. Though there are problems from
7-9pm
and again at 10pm, the 9pm hour is safe, finally.
One On One: The
critics hated it, often calling it one of the worst new shows of the
year.
But on the UPN's Monday night line-up, it clicked. 4.5mil viewers a
week
are tuning into the series, and on two occasions the show approached
the
6 million mark. UPN's Monday night comedies are truly one of tv's
strongest
sitcoms blocks.
