King
Of Queens (CBS,
Monday 8pm. Premieres September 23rd)
What's
Happening: No
changes in sight. Don't mess with success.
Where It's
Been:
A consistantly solid piece of the Monday night line-up, it lead off the
night with good numbers. It did, however, take a slight hit when "Fear
Factor" took up residence on Monday nights on NBC last spring.
Last Season's
High: 16.5mil
(December 17, 2001)
Premiere
Prediction: 16.8mil
The Reason: CBS's
Monday night line-up will become the site of massive sampling during
season
premiere week. For the reason why, see 10pm. If "CSI Miami" is the
monster
hit most expect it to be, Queens could break the top 15 this season.
Yes,
Dear (CBS,
Monday 8:30pm. Premieres September 23rd)
What's
Happening: Kim
and Greg have another baby. Who are these people?
Where It's
Been: Taking
a critical wailing throughout its entire run, this show is a hit
nonetheless.
Last fall it consistantly won its slot in the important demos,
frequently
outdrawing "Queens." But again, there was a hit taken by "Fear Factor"
Last Season's
High: 17.3mil
(December 17, 2001)
Premiere
Prediction: 17.6mil
The Reason: Again,
see the "King of Queens" reasoning. Whatever critics say about this, it
could make the top 10 more than a few times this season. And if it
does,
it could be moved off of Mondays all together.
Everybody
Loves
Raymond (CBS,
Monday 9pm. Premieres September 23rd)
What's
Happening: AThe
same old stuff, which in "Raymond"s case, is new, fresh and funny stuff.
Where It's
Been:
Everybody knows this story by now- nearly died in its Friday slot in
its
first season, shined in a Monday night try out. Moved to 8:30 Mondays
the
next season, was the highest draw of the night by far. So it got moved
to 9pm. It singlehandedly rebuilt CBS's Monday night line-up, has not
decreased
in viewers yet in its six seasons, and is now consistantly in the top
5,
depending on if "Friends" and "ER" are in repeats. Even when they're
not,
it's pretty damn close.
Last Season's
High: 24.3mil
(November 26. 2001)
Premiere
Prediction: 26.2mil
The Reason: Last
year, this show won two emmys, one for Patricia Heaton and another for
Doris
Roberts.
Most
shows would see viewership zoom because of that. But because the emmys
were held so late, "ELR" did not get the chance. If there are wins, and
I believe there will be, this will be "Raymond"s year to really
breakout. Oh, "CSI Miami" at 10pm doesn't hurt, either.
Still
Standing
(CBS,
Monday 9:30pm. Premieres September 30th)
What It's
About: A
Chicago family tries to juggle the responsibilites of parenting and
being
cool, trying to just control their children. The premise of this is the
simplest sounding of all the new fall series, and, to be honest, it's
refreshing.
Who's Behind
It: Diane
Burroughs is an exec producers, she's owned CBS Monday over the years
with
shows from "Murphy Brown" to "Love & War." Star Jamie Gertz was an
occasional on "ER" for quite a while.
Unfair Grade
Even Before Watching:
B+
Premiere
Prediction: 23.5mil
The Reason: This
will be the single best slot on tv. After "Raymond" and before "Miami."
How could this show lose? And plus, this show's premise sounds
extremely
compatible with "Everybody Loves Raymond."
CSI
Miami (CBS,
Monday 10pm. Premieres September 23rd)
What It's
About: CSI,
only in Miami
Who's Behind
It: Jerry
Bruckheimer (CSI); David Caruso (NYPD Blue); Dana Delaney (NYPD Blue,
Philly);
Emily Procter (The West Wing); Khandi Alexander (NewsRadio, The Corner,
ER)... does it get any better than this?
Unfair Grade
Even Before Watching:
A-
Premiere
Prediction: 28.0mil
The
Reason: As
even Dick Wolf admitted, "CSI" is a brand now. And with the Thursday
edition
just getting bigger and bigger, this one is gonna be big too. But there
could be a wrench thrown in. "Law & Order: SVU" struggled in the
ratings
for its first season before becoming a top 15 show last year. "CI" had
an okay first season, but nothing to crow about. Could "Miami" fall
into
the same trap? If it does, all bets are off.
