The
Parkers (UPN,
Monday 8pm. Premieres Monday, September 23)
What's
Happening: Shaquille
O'Neal guests, as does Nelly. Other than that, expect more of the same
hyjinx.
Where It's
Been:
A hit from the get go, it''s been anchoring the UPN's successful Monday
line-up for two seasons now. This year it moves to 8pm to shore up a
sloppy
timeslot.
Last Season's
High: 5.8mil
(May 20, 2002)
Premiere
Prediction: 6.3mil
The
Reason: The
fact that it ended its season tying its highest ratings ever is always
a good sign. With this at 8pm, UPN's Monday night line-up is offically
ready to take on the WB.
One
On One (UPN,
Monday 8:30pm. Premieres
Monday, September 23)
What's
Happening: AFelx
tried out for the LA Clippers (too bad he's old, but on the Clipper,
would
that really matter?), while the kids get relationships. Shouldn't it be
the other way around?
Where It's
Been: Premiering
last August, this show hit the high notes from the beginning. Critics,
however, were less amused.
Last Season's
High: 5.4mil
(May 20, 2002)
Premiere
Prediction: 6.3mil
The Reason: There
is no reason whatsoever for this show not to hold onto all of "The
Parkers"
audience, and maybe even build on it.
Girlfriends
(UPN,
Monday 9pm. Premieres Monday, September 23)
What's
Happening: One
of the girls gets married.
Where It's
Been:
For two seasons now, this show has been growing while attached to "The
Parkers." Now it's set out at 9pm to be the night's new linchpin.
Last Season's
High: 5.6mil
(September 10, 2001)
Premiere
Prediction: 5.9mil
The Reason: This
show will do perfectly fine at 9pm. The UPN has possible made the
smartest
moves of the season on this night. And the buzz can't hurt. Though
labelled
as a black "Sex And The City," many just call it the best sitcom on the
network, ever.
Half
And Half
(UPN,
Monday 9:30pm Premieres
Monday, September 23)
What It's
About: Two
half sisters move in together. The character's are like "Dharma &
Greg,"
'cept they don';t get married in the first episode, and they don't
sleep
together. But producers are keeping in mind as a sweeps stunt.
Who's Behind
It: Two
girls with odd names, Rachel True and Essense Atkins.
Unfair Grade
Even Before Watching:
B-
Premiere
Prediction: 5.8mil
The Reason: The
UPN knows its audience so well on this night, probably better than any
other network on any other night in television. This show will just be
another hit UPN Monday show, the only full lineup this side of BET that
caters to the black audience. CBS, NBC, are you listening?
