Charmed
(WB,
Sunday 8pm. Premieres September 29th with a two hour episode)
What's
Happening: Phoebe
turns into a mermaid, Piper discovers her baby has super powers, and
this
sounds so stupid.
Where It's
Been:
The WB's biggest debuting show at the time, it was a solid alternative
on Thursdays for several seasons. But as the witches grow old, it's off
to Sundays.
Last Season's
High: 6.7mil
(October 4, 2001)
Premiere
Prediction: 5.2mil
The
Reason: The
WB has had so many problems on Sunday night, too many to count. Dramas
have failed, as well as comedies. The only thing that works is the
summer
movie. Will "Charmed" change this? Probably not entirely, but with the
WB is stalking the night full of hit shows (and repeats of hit shows),
it has a fighting chance.
Angel
(WB,
Sunday 9pm. Premieres October 6th)
What's
Happening: Angel
does survive after his dip into the ocean, but meets Angelus when he
comes
back. He's the bad guy, I think. And to appease Angel/Buffy fans, Faith
comes back in February.
Where It's
Been: It
aired after "Buffy" for its first two seasons, and held onto all of
that
audience. Btu when the Slayer jumped to the WB, it got moved to right
after
"7th Heaven," where it did okay, but not fantastic. Now, with the UPN's
"must pick up if cancelled" clause just about run out, the WB is
carting
the drama off the Sunday.
Last Season's
High: 5.3mil
(October 1, 2001)
Premiere
Prediction: 4.7mil
The Reason: This
show has a very loyal audience. But it's also a timeslot leech. If
"Charmed"
succeeds, so will "Angel." If not, the angel will likely fly off for
good.
