Everything Changes in Time

This story takes place about 2 or 3 months from now… the middle of November. Kay has stopped trying to get Miguel and she's becoming more and more depressed. She finally set Resse straight and now he's dating Jessica. Simone and her are still friends but they have sort of drifted away. No one has seemed to notice the change in Kay and doesn't help.
Chapter One
"God she's starting to annoy me." Miguel Lopez-Fitgerald said outloud to himself Friday night in his room. He was referring to his girlfriend Charity Standish who kept having these ridiculous premonitions. "Why am I still with her?" he asked himself although he knew the answer. "Because I'm in love with her." He told himself. Whenever he said those words he always got a strange feeling as if he was lying and it wasn't true. "What am I going to do?" he moaned putting his head in his hands. He heard the sound of a door opening and looked at his computer screen. 'BazeBallGurl is entering.' It said. "Maybe Kay can help me." He said opening the IM box and typing a greeting. "Hey Kay… You busy?""Hey Miguel… No Why?" "Because I was hoping I could talk to you about something.""About what?" "Charity." Kay stared at her computer screen not believing what she saw. "What a jerk." She said out loud."I am sick and tired of this." She typed back. "Sick and tired of what?" Miguel wrote. "The fact that you don't give me the time of day unless you want to talk about how wonderful Charity is, or how you can show Charity how much you love her." "That's not true.""God Miguel we used to be best friends.""Kay, we still are." "Like hell we are." She typed back."Kay, what are you talking about?" "Miguel, we use to be inseparable. It was always Miguel and Kay, Kay and Miguel. We were the best of friends. I could tell you anything. If I was having problems in school, with my family or whatever I always turned to you. And you always turned to me. But as of last year when Charity came to town you started to completely ignore me. You'd always come over to see Charity and not even say a word to me. And when you did it was about how wonderful Charity was. It was like you could care less how I was. How I felt losing my room, my family, my clothes, and my best friend to her.'“Kay I never knew you felt this way." “Of course not you don't care about me anymore… all you care about is Charity." "Kay, you know that isn't true." "No Miguel, I know it's true and I am sick of it so I'm going to do what I should have done a year and a half ago. Goodbye Miguel." Kay said logging off AOL. After she did she stared at the computer screen feeling even lonelier then she did before. Miguel couldn't believe what had just happened. Him and Kay never got in fights. They argued like all friends but never got in fights. 'What the hell have I done?" Miguel asked. Miguel stood up and grabbed his coat. "I've got to get my best friend back." He said walking toward the door.
Chapter Two
Miguel walked along the streets of Harmony wondering what he should do to make it up to Kay when he bumped into Simone and her new boyfriend Devon Wilkinson. After Whitney and Chad got together, Simone gave up and fell for Devon. "Hey Miguel." Simone said."Hey Guys." "Miguel, Have you noticed the change in Kay lately?" Simone asked him. "Change?" Miguel questioned."You haven't noticed it?" "Noticed what?" Miguel asked beginning to worry. "Well for the last few months Kay has been very withdrawn. She goes to school and goes straight home. She barley speaks to anyone and won't do anything after school or on weekends. All she does is stay up in her room." "How could I've been such an idiot?" Miguel muttered. Simone didn't hear him and continued talking. "Jessica has also told me that Kay hasn't been eating. She'll tell Sam and Grace that she's already eaten when she hasn't and she'll stay up in her room.""And they haven't noticed?" Miguel asked. "Well honestly they have really paid attention to Kay since, well since…" "Charity came along." Miguel supplied for her. "Yeah. And Jessica doesn't want to tell Sam and Grace because Kay could become even worse." "Last year at my old school one of my friends was like that." Devon told them. "Her parents made her go to the Doctor and they where told she was in a state of depression.""Kay is not depressed." Miguel said firmly. "I think Devon's right, I mean she could be depressed." "Well then what the hell cause this?" Simone raised her eyebrows at him. "Oh gee I don't know, maybe the fact that her best friend forgot she even existed as soon as her whiny, blonde cousin came to town. The same blonde who took her room, her clothes, her friends, and her family." Normally Miguel would defend Charity but he was too worried about Kay. "I never knew she had such a problem with Charity.""Yeah well she did." "I'm going over to see her… I'll talk to you later Simone." Miguel ran all the way to the Bennetts. He didn't want to go through the front door because he knew he's see Charity and he wanted this to be just between him and Kay. He walked over to the side of the house and looked up. Her bedroom light was still on. He took a hold of the trellis and started to climb. Kay always kept her window open a bit for some strange reason no matter what the season was so Miguel knew he could get in. He pulled himself up and through the window landing with a thud on her floor.
Chapter 3
Kay jumped up from her desk in Horror. She was about to scream when she realized who it was."Miguel, what the hell are you doing?" She whispered angrily. Miguel smiled as he got to his feet. "Hi to you too Kay." Kay glared at him. "You have the wrong room. Charity's is down the hall." "Kay." He said walking over to her. "You have to hear me out." Kay shook her head. "We have nothing to say to one another." Miguel looked at her. Her face was pale and her eyes were red and puffy. Her long hair hung limply around her shoulders. But that wasn't all he noticed. She had lost a lot of weight, her sweat pants and tee shirt where so baggy they looked as if they where going to fall off."Kay we really need to talk." "Fine talk." Kay said throwing her hands in the air and moving to sit on her bed. Miguel walked over and sat next to her. "Kay, I am so sorry. Your right, when Charity came to town I became so taken with her that I forgot about everything around me, including the people I love the most." Kay looked up at him. "Miguel you don't understand how much it hurt to lose my best friend. We promised each other that we would be best friends forever no matter what and you broke that promise." By the time she finished talking tears where streaming down her face and her body was shaking with sobs. Miguel took her in his arms and hugged her. "I am so sorry. Kay, please believe me I never meant to hurt you. You are my best friend in the whole world and I want it to always be that way." Miguel said still hugging her. It killed him to see her this upset and he hated himself for being the one to cause it. "Do you really mean that?" Kay asked looking up at him. "Yes, I do. The two of us will start doing things together just like we used to. Okay?" He asked.Kay smiled at him. "I'd like that." "Okay then. Tomorrow, we'll spend the whole day together." "But you have a date with Charity.""I'll cancel it. She'll understand." "You don't have to do that Miguel." Kay told him. "I want to. I'll pick you up tomorrow at 9:00 okay?""All right." "We'll I better go before Mama realizes I left." "Bye." Kay said softly as he walked toward the window."Bye." Once Miguel was out of sight Kay started to cry again. "Oh Miguel, It's not that easy. I know things will never go back to normal." She whispered to herself as tears streamed down her face. As he walked home Miguel thought about Kay. ' I've got her help her.' He thought to himself remembering how pale and thin she looked. 'I caused this now I've got to fix it.' He knew that even though he had apologized, it would take a lot more for her too see that he was really serious.
Chapter 4
The next day Miguel arrived at the Bennett house at exactly 9:00. He knocked on the door and Jessica answered. "Miguel what are you doing here?" Charity asked seeing him in the doorway. "I thought we where going to meet at 12:00 for lunch." "Actually Charity about that, I sort of promised Kay I'd spend the day with her. Do you mind?"Charity paused for a moment before answering. "Of course not." "You're the best Charity." Miguel said kissing her on the cheek. Charity smiled at him. "I'll call you later." She told him walking toward the kitchen. Once she was gone Miguel sat down on the couch. Jessica walked over and sat down beside him."Why did you just cancel on Charity?" She asked. "You heard me Jessica… I'm spending the day with Kay." "You haven't given her the time of day all year." Jessica told him. Although her and Kay weren't very close Jessica hated seeing her sister so depressed. Miguel sighed. "Listen Jessica I want to help Kay through this seeing as I'm the one who caused it." "Miguel you don't understand… there's a lot you don't know." Jessica told him. "Like what?" Miguel asked. Jessica took a deep breath. It was time for Miguel to know Kay's real feeling for him. "Miguel Kay's in…" "Hey." A soft voice said from behind them. Miguel and Jessica turned to see Kay standing near the entrance. “Hey Kay.” Jessica said standing up and hugging her sister. Kay, though surprised with the gesture, returned the hug.“Thanks Jessica.” Kay said. “For What? Jessica asked taken back by her sisters kindness. “For being here.” Kay whispered. “When I get back I need to talk to you okay?” “Sure Kay. Have fun.” Jessica said leaving the room. Once Miguel and Kay where left alone there was an uncomfortable silence. Miguel looked over at her. Her hair was pulled back off her face and she wasn’t wearing any make-up. She was dressed in baggy jeans which hung off of her with a red GAP sweater.“Well are you ready to go?” Miguel asked rising to his feet. “Yeah.” Kay replied.“Follow me.” He told her leading the way out the door. “Where are we going?” Kay asked as soon as they where at the end of her street. “Well here’s my plan, we’ll go to the Book Café and get a quick breakfast. Then we’ll go over to the lake and skate, like we used to do every year at the beginning of Winter.” Miguel suddenly stopped. He reached out and placed his hands on her shoulders. “Look at me Kay.” He told her. When she wouldn’t her gently turned her head toward his. “I am so sorry for everything that has happened. I really want to repair the damage Kay. I miss you so much, I really want my best friend back.” Kay’s face softened upon hearing his words. “Oh Miguel, I’m sorry.” Miguel smiled at her. “Don’t be sorry, just promise you’ll have fun today.” “Okay.” She agreed happily. “Anyway, after Skating we’ll go to the Burger Hut for lunch and then we’ll go see that new Horror movie at 3:00. After you’ll come over for dinner, Mama’s making your favorite. How does that sound?” He asked. “Excellent.” Kay said as they continued walking toward the Book Café. The day went really well for the two of them. As they spent time together, Miguel realized just how much he had been missing. It felt good to hang out with someone and have fun for once. He couldn’t remember the last time him and Charity had done something like this. He was really happy when Kay started to smile and laugh. It had been so long since she had and he was glad she was coming around. As they walked toward his house for dinner, he silently vowed to himself that he would do more things with Kay and make her his number one priority for awhile.
Chapter 5
Note: Charity has gotten rid of the pendent and in back to normal, nauseatingly, sweet Charity. Also, I Know that what Kay’s gonna do in this chapter is totally out of character but think of it as her Turning over A New Leaf. In order to do what I plan with this story, I need Kay to make peace with everyone. When she got home she found the house was silent. Kay went into the kitchen and found Charity and Jessica sitting at the table. “Did you have fun Kay?” Charity asked smiling at her cousin. ‘Yeah.” Kay replied poring herself a glass of water. “That’s good. I know you and Miguel where really close before I came to town and I know you guys really haven’t spent much time together, so I’m happy everything is okay between the two of you. I know what best friends you guys are.” Charity told her. Kay had long ago realized she was wrong resenting Charity and felt bad. It really wasn’t her fault. “Thanks Charity.” She said with a smile. “I’m going upstairs.” She told them leaving the kitchen. After she’d been in her room for 15 minutes there was a knock on the door.“Who is it?” Kay asked.“Jess.” “Come in. It’s your room too.” Kay told her. Jessica opened the door and closed it behind her. She walked over to Kays bed and sat down. “You said before that you needed to talk to me. “Yeah.” Kay took a deep breath and began. “Listen, Jess, I wanted to apologize for everything I’ve done and said in the past. Over the last few months I’ve realized what a bitch I was and how bad I treated you. And I’m so sorry. Jessica your my only sister and I don’t want you to turn away from me too.” Kay toldher. Jessica smiled. “I haven’t treated you too great either.” Jessica said leaning over and giving Kay a quick hug.“Thanks Jess.” “Your welcome, and Kay I promise to be supportive and caring when it comes to Miguel. I know that you truly love him and I know how hard it must be to see him with Charity.” Kay sighed. “Yeah, it is hard, but I know that he really loves her and all I want is for us to go back to being best friends. I know it will be hard to get over him, but I am really going to try.”“Good for you.” “Jess, I know I’ve done some pretty horrible things in my quest to get Miguel and you have to know how much I regret each and every one of them.” “I know you do, and I promise that I will never tell anyone as long as I live.” “Thank you Jess, you are the best sister in the world. I just never realized it ‘til know.” Kay said tears welling up in her eyes. After Jessica left, Kay knew she had to do two other things. Fix things with Simone and set the record straight with her mother. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to tell Grace how she felt face-face so she decided to write it all down and leave it for her. Moving over to her desk, she picked up a pen and began to write.Dear Mom, I knew I wouldn’t be able to do this face-to-face, but I knew I had to do it somehow. Mom, do you realize that ever since Charity came to town you have directed all of your attention to her and none of it too me? You gave her my room, bought her clothes and refused to buy me any as well as take money that you where saving for my car and spent it on her. You may think that I’m being a jealous teenager, but I’m not. It really hurt that as soon as she came into your life I become the outsider and watched as she became your daughter. I know that Charity lost a mother and I feel sorry for her, but mom I honestly know how she felt because I feel like I’ve lost my mother. I don’t want to hurt you or anything, I just wanted you to know hoe much I‘m hurt because of it.Love Kay Kay placed the letter into an envelope and picked it up. She walked down the hall to her parents room and knocked.“Come in.” Her mother called. “Mom, do you mind if I go over to Simones for a few minutes. I have to talk to her.” Kay asked.“Sure, don’t be long.” Grace replied. “Thanks Mom.” Kay said placing the envelope on her mothers dresser. Kay ran all the way over to Simones knowing exactly what she had to do. She walked up the front path and knocked. Simone answered the door. Kay could tell by the look on her friends face that she was surprised to see her there. “Hey Kay. Come in.” Kay said holding the door open for her. Kay wordlessly entered the room and stood in front of her friend. “Simone, I am so sorry.”“For what?” Simone asked. “For the last year.” Kay replied. “I know I’ve been a horrible friend. All I’ve done is complain about my problems and make you get caught up in my quest to get Miguel and I am so sorry.”“It’s all right Kay.” Simone told her. “No it’s not. I have treated you awfully.” “Kay, I know how much you wanted Miguel and I know that’s why you did everything.”Kay was silent. “Kay, I have been so worried about you. Recently you have become so withdrawn I didn’t know what was wrong.” “I know Simone, I’ve really missed you and our friendship.” Kay told her. Simone smiled at her. “We are always going to be friends.” She told her happy that Kay was coming around.
Chapter 6
When Kay got home it was starting to get dark. She didn’t want to disturb anyone so she quietly went up to her bedroom. When she opened the door and stepped inside she was surprised to see her mother sitting on the edge of her bed. Grace turned to face her and Kay saw that tears where pouring down her face. “Mom… I.” Kay started but was interrupted by Grace. “Kay, sweetie, I am so sorry. I didn’t even realize how hard this was for you and I honestly never meant to ignore you like I have.” “Mom you don’t have to apologize to me.” Kay told her moving to sit beside her. “Kay, I have to.” Grace told her. “After, I read your letter I realized how right you where and thought back to the past year. I haven’t paid any attention to you and I am so sorry. Kay, your my daughter and I love you so much. I remember how close we where before Charity came to town and I know I ruined that. I have been a horrible mother, can you ever forgive me?” Grace asked her daughter.“Of course I can forgive you mom.” Kay told her. Grace smiled and wiped the tears from her face. “I realize that by giving Charity your room I gave up all of your privacy. So I have an idea for you. The attic is fairly large, so what if we fix it up into a bedroom for you. With some work, it can be really nice and maybe even allow you to have your own washroom.” Kay grinned. “Do you really think Dad will go along with it?” She asked her mom. Grace put her arm around Kay and kissed her on the forehead. “I’m sure I can convince him.”“Thanks mom.” Kay said as her mother moved toward the door. Grace smiled. “I’m glad you told me how you felt and I’ll make it up to you, I promise. Good Night Honey.” Grace said as she left the room. As she laid down to sleep for the night, Kay smiled. She couldn’t remember the last time she felt like this. She was truly happy. Kay was glad that she was able to work things out with her mom, Simone, Jessica and most of all Miguel. She had missed her relationship with them so much. Kay knew that over the last few months she had entered a depressed state, and she knew in her heart that all thought she had made peace with everyone it would still take time to get out of it, but knowing that people actually cared for her was helping, in fact it was helping a lot.
