Chapter 1:
Lying there, staring at the ceiling, in the dark, he was lost in
thought, about her. Many of nights he has done this, and all thoughts and reminders drifted eventually to her. No matter what time, what day, the time span of his life, they always ended with her. Actually that was all that was on his mind, he never managed otherwise because if he hadn't he would have been far gone by now. He longed to kiss her, smell her, hold her, and hear her.....again. ‘There has to be a way' he thought to himself once again. It had been two years since she mysteriously disappeared, exactly to the night.
She was plagued by thoughts of him per usual. It wasn't fair she was pulled away from the one thing, (and person) that made her laugh, smile, and love again. She looked down at the reminder of him...the only thing that gave her joy in her life right now. "Oh how I wish your daddy could see you LJ,.....well at least you have his eyes." she spoke to her infantile son (actually about 15 months?!) ‘If I can't have him at least I have you,' she thought as a pang of sadness struck through her. "You know what your daddy is sad again" she spoke to him even though he was sleeping soundly. "She has a good reason, hell I don't even care if there is a reason, I know she is alive" he thought aloud. Just then some of the younger kids came to the youth center looking for Luis. He then smiled at the sight of them, for
whatever reason brought him even more joy.
Actually after Sheridan had left he came to be more fond of the younger kids, that comforted the longing hole in his heart. Sure he had always loved kids, but now, especially he just took to the younger ones without no apparent reason that he was aware of. Then his thoughts fluttered back to that night.
~*~*~FLASHBACK~*~*~
Luis and Sheridan had just made love for the first time. The finally
had given into their feelings and their desires, hope and dreams. Neither of them had been more happy then in that moment in time, it seemed so impossible for either of them to be allowed happiness. Yet one thing was left unsaid. They did not admit to each other that they loved one another, but they both knew it to themselves and where waiting for the other to declare it first. They had made love in the moment, both were extremely happy, yet it was left unsaid. No words were spoken. Then the next morning Luis was gone to work, and that was it, he never saw her again, no note, no explanation, nothing.
Julian had convinced everyone, even Ethan, that Sheridan died in a
plane crash on her way to Paris that next morning. He told me that what she did was a mistake, and she couldn't face me just having a one night stand, so with that she left. Then the Crane Jet had "difficulty" and went down over the Atlantic ocean so no body was found. They had a memorial service for her and everything, yet I refuse to believe she is dead, I have this connection with her that I felt with no one but her and I know she is NOT dead. I just know she's out there...somewhere.
Sheridan had just woken up and found barely heard Luis leaving. ‘Oh,
how sweet, he didn't want to wake me on his way out to work.' she thought to herself and smiled. Whenever she thought of him she smiled, she couldn't help it; he made her laugh, smile, and love again. That word she had regretted not telling him last night. But she made a vow to herself to tell him the next time she saw or talked to him, that she loved him and always had. The ringing phone brought her back to reality. ‘Maybe it's Luis' she wished to herself. "Hello?" she answered "Luis? Is it you? Luis..come on...I have something I want to tell you....Luis...here it goes....I love you!" she pronounced..still no answer
"Luis, if this is some kind of a joke I will definitely make sure you pay for it later." she remarked with a satisfied grin on her face. Still no answer. Finally the other end hung up. Now Sheridan was beyond words, Luis would never leave her hanging like that, or at least she thought he wouldn't. ‘ No, he definitely wouldn't it is not like him at all to do that.' she thought aloud. The next thing she heard was a knock on the door, so she tightened up her robe that she had on and opened up the door. To her surprise it was Julian. He had a very
disturbed look on his face, but it was smug, like he had something to
share. She turned around, and invited her smug-faced brother in. All of a sudden I was hit with something and woke up here.
It seemed to be a cozy little apartment in a basement somewhere. As my
visioned cleared I then realized all the windows were barred and the
door was only able to be opened from the outside. I felt so alone, there was no phone to contact the outside world only a television and books to keep me from total boredom. Then that's when I saw it, a note on what was to be the kitchen table I guess. I looked at the envelope and it had been addressed to me. I opened it and read:
Sheridan-
My sweet daughter. I am sorry to have to do this to you, but
you were getting too close for comfort. I will not have my empire
brought down by matters of the heart. I know you don't
understand my reasons now but eventually you will. Luis and
you are not meant to be, and NEVER will be. He thinks you
are dead and so does everyone else for that matter. The only ones
whom know the actual truths of you and your whereabouts are
I and Julian. There will be no escaping this place. NONE! You
understand? You will live in comfort there, and you'll have food
and all other necessities needed to live. Julian will be there soon,
so please take care and remember I love you.
My Best-
Father
Sheridan crumpled up the note and threw it across the room. Then she
heard the door opening and presumed it was Julian. I stared at him in
disgust, what kind of person would do this to their own sister? He just glared back at me and told me what the plan was. I just nodded along not really listening to what he said. All I could feel is the pain in my heart that Luis was feeling at this same moment. He had to know I was alive, he would never believe that I was dead. That is what kept me going. Then came the morning sickness, I thought was just the flu but, the "kind" Julian and Alistair let a doctor examine me. They confirmed I was indeed pregnant.
I couldn't believe it, the one moment I was most happy in my life had
produced a love that I knew would conquer all. And so I had Luis
Lopez-Fitzgerald Jr., which I gave LJ for short, because saying his name only brought tears to my eyes. Alistair and Julian were none too pleased that I had become impregnated with a "commoners" child, let alone Luis', but for some reason the let me keep him. He was my piece of heaven.....for now.
~*~*~ BACK TO PRESENT ~*~*~
"We are going to do this, we are going to get out of here." she spoke sweetly to her son, who just cackled at this. She couldn't resist looking into those eyes that she loved, yet missed so much. Sheridan had been working at the bathroom window bar for about as long as she was there. It took time and patience and she knew eventually she'd get it. The window in the bathroom she had measured would be large enough for her to fit through. There was looked to be an alley of some kind that would allow her to hide. Julian paid his visits as usual to check in on me, give me food, stuff for LJ, so I conceived he couldn't be too evil, not as Alistair is.
He found solace in LJ, from what I took of it and that gave me some comfort I guess. I decided to escape after Julian's next visit. There would be enough food for me and LJ, and I would be well-prepared for at least a week on my own. So she took LJ, they slipped out the window and were finally free. She looked at her surroundings and asked kind lady whom walked by what town this was. The lady look puzzled but answered Sheridan anyway. Much to her surprise they weren't all too far from Harmony. ‘I guess that's why Julian was able to make his weekly trips' she thought quietly to herself. "I guess we better get going, it now or never." she said to her son who just smiled back at her and laughed that little laugh, his laugh.
I found myself staring at her photo once again. The only one I had with that smile in it. I just loved that smile, it could fill the darkest room. It shone like a light from the heavens. Then Jake came running into the office. "Leez, Leez," he shouted. He couldn't pronounce my name but I just adored the way he said it. He was about four and his mom had to work to make ends meet, so Luis offered to take him anytime he had the chance. "What is it?" he replied. "Come here look what I can do, I can make a basket just like you!" he announced proudly Luis had one of those smaller basketball nets for the younger kids to play with and Jake did his hardest to get that ball in the net. "Wow, let me see." Luis replied indulging Jake.
So Jake showed him and Luis couldn't be anymore proud if it were his own son. His own son. That sounded so right to him. But he could never have it. He didn't want to have any children, well he did, but not with just anyone, her he wanted to marry her and have children with her and only her. He too also regretted not telling her that he loved her that night. Jake left soon afterwards. so I decided to shoot some hoops, to get my mind off of her, "but like it is ever possible, that is the thing that keeps me going, that I know somewhere in my heart that she is alive and she will return........If I could only tell her.......If she only knew......"
Sheridan had gotten herself back to Harmony in no time. ‘Even though I
have LJ with me, it is worth the weight.' she thought to herself. She
had gotten to the youth center, for some reason she knew she would find him there. It was as if her heart was giving her directions, and she was actually listening for the first time to them. I entered the youth
center holding LJ in my arms, he was sleeping from the trip. I heard the sound of a ball being dribbled and immediately knew it was him.
‘He's talking to someone?' she asked herself. "No, he's talking to himself" I answered myself aloud. I walked up to the doors, and stood there staring at the back of him. He hadn't changed on single bit, except there was and aura of sadness around him. I had heard his last remark or question and decided to answer him, not knowing what response to imagine...I then replied: "I did know" he turned around and...........
