Chapter 16: Protecting Love

Chapter 16:

The next morning Sheridan awoke to the smell of breakfast. When she rolled over she saw a tray of food on her nightstand. ‘He made me breakfast in bed, he’s so sweet.’ She looked over the tray; it was a plate of chocolate chip pancakes, eggs and bacon. She quickly ate the plate of food. She got out of bed with a smile on her face; she needed to talk to Luis. She walked into the living room, only to find him sprawled out on the sofa in his navy blue boxers. He looked too sexy. Looking at him caused her to think back to last night.

Last night has been almost terrible for her. After she left Luis alone in the kitchen she went back to her room. She slipped under the covers, with the intent of going to sleep. As she closed her eyes she saw Luis. She groaned, realizing she wasn’t going to be getting any sleep anytime soon. When she rolled over in her bed she could smell his cologne on her pillow. It drove her crazy not to have him close to her, it was as if her body was going through withdrawal, and Luis was the drug. She had gotten up, grabbing a book and returned back to bed. She read a couple of hours until she fell asleep, book in hand. She slept through the night clutching the pillow that smelled of Luis and dreaming of him.

Sheridan snapped out of her thoughts when she saw Luis stir. She knelt down beside him on the floor. Luis turned over, he smiled at seeing her beautiful face with a smile on it. “Morning.” He said softly. “Morning.” She replied sweetly. “How was your breakfast?” He asked knowingly. “It was great, I didn’t know you could cook so well. How did you know chocolate chip pancakes were one of my favorites?”

“Mama told me.” He said getting up and brushing the sleep from his eyes. “How did you sleep?” “Not too good, I’ve gotten used to you sharing a bed with you, being close to you.” She said sitting close to him. He put his arm around her as she snuggled into him. “I missed you too last night.” He said catching a whiff of her hair. He became intoxicated by it. He began kissing her neck knowing it was against his better judgment. Although she often clouded his judgment, she blinded his common sense. He kept on because she wasn’t protesting. Luis pulled her over into his lap so that she was straddling him. Just as they were really about to get started the phone rang.

“Ignore it.” They both said simultaneously, out of breath. The answering machine clicked on, it was Theresa. “Someone pick up, I know you’re there. My pit bull of a brother would never leave Sheridan alone in there.” Sheridan reached over and picked up the phone against Luis’ pleas and begging. “Hello Theresa.” Sheridan said out of breath as Luis continued to kiss down her neck. Sheridan pushed his face away. “Stop Luis.”

“What are you two doing? Are you guys…?” “No Theresa we’re just having a little disagreement. Do you need to talk to Luis?” “Yeah, thanks.” Sheridan handed the Luis the phone. Luis took it, a little miffed about being interrupted. Theresa began telling Luis that Aunt Carmen and their cousin Carlos were there. She talked about how they had changed. Sheridan realized Luis was going to be awhile. She slid off of his lap and headed for the bathroom.

Luis meanwhile listened to Theresa ramble until she finally got to the point. He told her he would be there soon. She continued to ramble so talking about how Carlos and Carmen had changed. Sheridan emerged from her bedroom dressed in a simple red racerback dress with a matching sweater tied around her shoulders. She always took his breath away. The color and likeness of the dress made him think back to their date at the Lobster Shack. He smiled warmly at the memory as Sheridan came to him and sat beside him.

Theresa snapped him back to reality telling him she had to go and that she would see them in a little while. “I guess you got your wish Sheridan, my aunt and cousin are in town.” “I know Theresa told me yesterday, so let’s go. You can get showered and dressed at your house.” Sheridan grabbed his hand and pushed him towards his room to get dressed. He came back out a few minutes later in jeans and a white t-shirt.

On the way out Sheridan finally noticed all the security around her cottage. She asked Luis about it. He told her he just wanted to take care of her the other night without worrying about her life being in danger. She told him that she loved him so much. Luis pulled her into a kiss as soon as they got in the car, a kiss that could fog the windows up. She pulled back slowly opening her eyes, she saw the desire in his eyes. She recognized the look in his eyes; she had seen it a lot since they admitted their love for each other. “Sorry officer but that’s going to have to wait until later.” Luis just smiled at her as he started up the car.
