Chapter 5: Protecting Love

Chapter 5:

Luis still didn't let go of her wrist as he watched the FBI agents and Sam walk out of the office door. As soon as he heard the door close his grip around her wrist tightened. "Good reflexes." she said glaring at him. "Last time you said that you weren't as quick." "What is your obsession with slapping me?" he asked through gritted teeth. "Get your damn hands off me officer." But his grip only got tighter. "Luis let me go." she said calming down, she had pushed him too far. He loosened his grip and she snatched it away. They just stood there glaring at each other.

"I'm so sick of you." she said whirling around to pick up her cell phone and began dialing. "Who are you calling Sheridan?" Luis asked angrily. "None of your damn business officer, let's just say I have no intention of being under anybody's surveillance." Sheridan spat out. "You can't get out of this one Sheridan." He said to her as she began to talk to someone whoever she was talking to didn't make her too happy. She found out she was stuck with the FBI protection. All her anger and frustration boiled over at that moment.

"Damnit!" she yelled. She was so mad she threw her phone against the wall. It broke into a million pieces. Sam and the FBI agents came running into the office. Sheridan looked like she was about to have a breakdown, her hands were shaking. Luis' eyes softened as he walked towards her but she backed up. She stepped out the door and made her way to the restroom. It seemed to her life wasn't even in her own hands. She fought back her tears, winning the battle. She calmed herself down, stopping the shaking. Sheridan then closed her eyes trying to dispel the anger she felt but it was impossible.

She walked back out into the station and made a straight line for the door. No one saw her walking towards the door and she walked out. She smiled thinking she got away when she saw Luis leaning against her car. He looked at her with a disapproving look but he knew she would make a run for it. She just looked at him, a little shocked, damn he knew her too well.

"Luis." was the she could say. "Sheridan, where were you going?" he asked walking towards her. She now had noticed that he was out of uniform. He had on a pair of dark blue jeans and a white t-shirt that showed his muscles. Luis repeated his question walking towards her. "Umm...I was getting some fresh air." she said a little hopefully which gave her away. Luis threw his hands in the air as a signal. "Sheridan can you do me a favor?" Luis asked eying her. "Depends." she said eyeing him back.

"Stop lying to me because its getting old Sheridan. I know you were planning on leaving despite the fact that the FBI are now involved. I told them you would try this but they didn't believe me." Sheridan turned her head away from Luis. Luis didn't wait for a reply as he tugged Sheridan back into the station house. The FBI agents saw Luis come in with Sheridan and they knew Luis was absolutely right about her. Luis seemed to be the only one who could predict her actions, who knew her well. For that reason Agent Mason knew that Luis wouldn't let Sheridan out of his sight, he for one knew he had made the best decision when he appointed Luis as her personal bodyguard. Mike felt that it was time that he introduce Sheridan to her bodyguard.

"Ms. Crane I would like you to meet your new bodyguard." Agent Mason said pointing behind her. She turned around but all she saw was Luis. "Where is he?" Sheridan asked turning back around to face the agent. "Behind you." The agent said amused. She turned around but still saw Luis. She then turned back to Agent Mason. She looked at the amusement on his face and the realization hit her. "No way in HELL!! You can't be serious. There is no way I'm going to be stuck with him 24/7. We'll probably kill each other. tell him Luis." She waited for him to jump in at anytime but she heard nothing. She turned to face him. "Luis say something! You can't possibly want to be around me anymore than I want to be around you. Say something damnit." "Sheridan I've known about this for a while. Luis said on the verge of a smile. Sheridan's mouth dropped open.

"You what? I can't take this anymore. This is too much in one day, hell this is too much for a lifetime. I need out of this town." Sheridan looked stressed out. "I see no problem with that as long as Luis goes everywhere you go." Agent Mason said. Sheridan hesitated, she didn't want to be around him. The man confused her like hell. "Fine, for now." she said tiredly. "In that case you know what to do Officer Lopez-Fitzgerald." Agent Mason said. "I have to go home and get my things together. Is that okay? Sheridan asked looking at Luis. He noticed that she seemed drained. "Yeah come on." Luis said softly. They walked outside together. "Can I trust you to drive your own car to my house so I can pack?" He asked. "Yeah." She then got into her car without another word. They drove to his house separately. When they got there Pilar was sitting to the table drinking a cup of tea. "Hello hijo, Sheridan, what are you doing here?" Pilar asked all in one breath.

"Hi Pilar. In attempt to answer your question Luis and I are going out of town together." Luis left Sheridan to explain the situation as he packed. Sheridan watched as Pilar almost choked on her tea. "Oh my God Pilar are you okay?" Sheridan said patting her back. Luis at the time was upstairs packing. "Yes I'm fine. Sheridan I know you and my son went on a couple of dates but going out of town together on a romantic..." Sheridan cut Pilar off. "Pilar I don't know where you get this from but Luis and I are not involved romantically. The FBI forced me into having him as a bodyguard. There is nothing going on between your son and me." Sheridan stated but it was said with a hurt voice. "Sheridan what happened between my son and you?" Pilar asked being aware of how hurt Sheridan was.

"Let's just say that you don't have to worry about us getting involved, not after what I heard him say about me." She then flashed back to the night on the docks. Tears began to slip out of her eyes as Luis walked in with his things, all ready to go. He noticed she had tears in her eyes. "Sheridan why are you crying?" Luis asked gently as he stood in front of her. "Forget it." She said hastily wiping away her tears. "Are you ready to go?" She asked changing the subject. "Yeah, let's go get your things and we'll be on our way." Luis said through a frown as she quickly changed the subject. He then turned to his mother and wrapped her up in a big hug.. "Make sure you take good care of her Luis, she's confused right now." Pilar said whispering to her son. Luis just nodded his head in compliance and broke from the hug.

"Bye hijo." She turned to Sheridan and held her arms out to her. Sheridan walked to the woman who she considered to be a second mother and gave her a hug. Luis watched as Sheridan was embraced by his mother and smiled. "Sheridan, take care although I have no doubt in my sons abilities. I know you two aren't on the best of terms right now, but he does care about you whether you know it or not. I know you care about him more than you lead on." Pilar whispered. Sheridan broke the hug and said goodbye to Pilar. They got outside and decided to take Sheridan's car, but Luis was going to drive. They swung by her cottage and picked up her things. The drive was quiet. Sheridan was looking out the window most of the time. Luis wondered what she was thinking about but her facial expressions were not clear.

It didn't take too long to reach the cabin. Luis helped Sheridan take her many suitcases in the cabin. After everything was carried in Luis checked the cabin to make sure it was secure while Sheridan stretched out on the couch. Sheridan decided to get ready for bed. She hopped in the shower, it didn't take her long to start thinking about Luis. She turned the water on cold to calm herself down. She got out wrapped a towel around herself and combed her hair back. She headed back to her room wondering what was Luis was doing. She pulled out a powder blue short silk nightgown and the matching see through robe. She no longer felt sleepy so she decided to listen to some music.

She didn't see Luis so she figured he was already in bed. She stretched out on the couch, she was more tired than she thought because she ended up falling asleep. Luis came back into the livingroom to find Sheridan fast asleep on the couch. He tried to wake her but she was sound asleep. Luis picked her up and carried her to her bedroom and put her to bed. It was hard for him to put her down, she had snuggled close to to him while he was carrying her. He finally left her bedroom, checked the cabin again and went off to bed. Meanwhile Sheridan was having another dream about luis. The dream was more like reality. It continued throughout the night as she slept, almost haunting her.
