*~*~*Tainted Love did NOT happen.  Eve accepted Chris' proposal to leave
Port Charles and start a new life together.*~*~*

*~*December 2001*~*

"Your daddy's going to be home soon," Eve smiled at her daughter as she fed
her a bottle, "Your daddy's going to love our surprise, Jenna.  I know that
he will," She watched her daughter drift off to sleep, barely making any
headway on the bottle.  Eve gently eased the bottle from Jenna's pouty lips
and set the bottle aside.  She tucked the soft pink blanket snugly around
her daughter and smiled, "You are my pride and joy, princess."

Eve was so entranced by her daughter that she didn't notice her husband
step through the door.  He placed his briefcase on the floor and leaned
against the door as he watched her.  He'd fallen even more in love with her
over the past few months, finding himself wishing that their marriage was
more than just one of convenience.

"How's our baby girl?" Chris asked softly, breaking the silence.

Eve looked up with a smile, "She's missed you today, Daddy."

"Did she?" He asked as he neared her, "How can you tell?"

"She and I were just discussing it.  She let me know that she couldn't wait
until you got home."

Chris looked at Jenna as she slept peacefully in Eve's arms, "Well, she
seemed to have fallen asleep before I could let her know I'm home."

"You'll just have to make it up to her later, Daddy," Eve smiled before she
walked through the apartment.  She entered the nursery and placed Jenna in
her crib.  Chris stood at the door with a smile as he watched his wife and
daughter.  Eve turned to face Chris and smiled as she stepped over to him,
"Let's go into the kitchen.  I've made dinner for the two of us."

"Oh really?" He asked with a curious grin, "You cooked?"

"Very funny," Eve replied as she poked him in the chest.  She smiled as she
stepped by him and wiggled her finger at him, "Come on, Ramsey.  Dinner
awaits."

Chris smiled as he followed Eve through their penthouse apartment.  He
paused as he stepped into the dining room, spotting the candle light
dancing softly in the darkened room.  He watched Eve closely for a moment
as she stepped around the table.

She stopped and looked towards him, "Have a seat.  I'll be out with our
dinner in just a second."

As she disappeared into the kitchen, Chris took a deep breath and sat at
the small table.  He could smell the fresh flowers that were set in various
places around the room while the candles illuminated the room with dancing
lights.  A few seconds later, soft music began to fill the room.

Eve stepped into the room and placed a plate before him.  She gave him a
soft smile before sitting across from him at the table, "I thought tonight
we'd just focus on us."

"Us?" Chris asked softly as he looked around the room, "I think that's a
nice idea."

"I was hoping you'd say that," She smiled at him, "So how was work today?"

"It was oddly peaceful," He answered with a small shrug, "Which I'm not
about to complain about.  It's much nicer to have peaceful days than be
busy all the time."

"So I guess Llanview is the kind of town every doctor dreams of, huh?"

"I guess it depends on how you look at it," He replied, "I've listened to
some horror stories about things have happened in this town.  I guess every
town has its ups and downs."

"You're not going to get bored here, are you?" She asked as she watched his
eyes.

"I don't think so.  I'll find a challenge yet," He broke a small smile.

"There you go.  I knew you'd find a way to make this place work for you."

"It already works for me," He spoke as he met her eyes, "As long as you and
Jenna are with me, anywhere can work for me."

Eve smiled, "I feel the same way, Chris."

"Being with you these last few months has been amazing for me, Eve."

"For me too," She said as she placed her hand over his on the table,
"Chris, everything you've done for us....it's meant so much to me."

"I only want what's best for you, Eve.  I only want to see you happy."

"I am happy.  You've given me so much that I never thought I'd
have.  You've made me feel like I finally deserve to be this happy."

Chris extended his hand to lightly touch her cheek, "You've always deserved
to be this happy."

Eve placed her hand over his, "Chris, there's something we need to talk
about.  Something that's very important to our future together."

He took a deep breath and sat back, "I guess it's finally time to come to
terms with this, isn't it?"

"I thought I could deal with it and not say anything," She paused,
"Especially after everything we've been through together."

"Eve, you don't owe me any explainations."

"But I do.  I do owe you this.  Because you have been so wonderful to me
and to Jenna.  It's time we stop avoiding the issue and finally be adults
about it."

Chris looked away from her and nodded, "I guess this means you're going
back to Port Charles, doesn't it?"

"What?" Eve asked in confusion, "Why on earth would I want to do that?"

He quickly looked back to her, "You're not telling me that you're going
back to Ian?"

"Oh Chris," She shook her head before moving around the table.  She slid a
chair close to him and sat down, taking his hand in hers, "That's not it at
all.  I have to tell you something.  It's something I wasn't quite sure how
to get out, but I'm sure that it does have to be said."

"What are you talking about, Eve?" He asked, searching her face for some
hint of what was going on in her mind.

"Chris," She touched his cheek gently, "I know why you've done everything
that you've done for us.  You don't have to hide it anymore.  I know the
truth."

"The truth?" He asked as he looked into her eyes, "Eve, what are you
talking about?"

"I do know the truth about us," Eve paused, "I know that you gave me the
greatest gift that anyone ever could," She stroked his cheek gently, "I
know that you love me.  You told me so on our wedding day, and I thought
you were just being sweet.  After all this time though, I know that you
really meant it."

"Eve.....I.."

"Shhh," She spoke softly as she placed her finger over his lips, "That's
not all.  Something came up while I was at the doctor's office the other
day."  As Chris' features became tense, she shook her head, "Everything is
just perfect, but Dr. Sanders wanted to know if I knew Jenna's blood
type.  I told her that I didn't know, but I was curious.  So she tested
Jenna's blood type.  Jenna's blood type is B negative."

"That's extremely rare," Chris paused.

"Yes it is," Eve nodded, "And it would be impossible for Jenna to be Ian's
daughter."

"What?" He asked as he met Eve's eyes.

"Ian is O positive."

"So Jenna belongs to Kevin?"

Eve shook her head, "Kevin is A positive."

"What?" Chris asked with a confused look upon his face.

"It just so happens," She took a deep breath as she looked at him, "I
happen to know that your blood type is B negative."

Chris watched Eve for a moment.

She smiled as she touched his face, "I thought back about the night that I
showed up at your apartment with the makings for a martini night.  You had
talked about friends just getting together for friendship sake.  Well, I
didn't remember anything.  All I could remember was passing out before
anything happened between us.  The next thing I could remember was being in
my hotel room."

"Eve....are you saying..." Chris shook his head slightly.

She caressed his cheek slowly, "I'm saying that you helped me up, and I
came around.  You suggested we go back to my hotel room where I could get
some coffee and come to myself.  But I didn't want that at all.  I wanted
you, and I wasn't going home without getting what I wanted."

"You and I...."

"We made love, Chris.  You and I went to bed that night, and we made love."

"Eve.....I never meant to take advantage.....but I don't remember...."

"Shhh," Eve placed a finger over his lips, "I remember, and I know one
thing for certain.  Jenna is your daughter, Chris.  She's our daughter."

"Our daughter," Chris spoke softly, "Really our daughter?"

Eve nodded before she kissed Chris gently, "Thank you for our daughter, Chris."

Chris took a deep breath and wrapped his arms around Eve quickly, hugging
her closely, "Our daughter, Eve.  She's our daughter."

Eve smiled as she held her husband, relishing the knowledge that she and
Chris had given life to their beautiful little girl.
