BIO

She was raised by her father until she was 7, after the death of her mother when she was 5. He was a trader with the Lakota and she often went with him when he went to trade. When he found it necessary to go back East on business, he left the girl with the Lakota until he could return. He never did. Forced to leave her Lakota family at the age of 14, she was sent to a white school, where they tried to teach her to read and behave like a lady. She managed to run away a year later and has been on her own ever since.
