Bo & Hope #79 August 2, 2010 - January 3, 2011: 8 hour edit
DVD #79A At Bo's house, Hope called Dr. Baker to say goodbye and wanted to thank him for his loyalty. Dr. Baker asked her to join him for a drink before she left, but she said she had no time, and she hung up. Hope hid the knife in the cushion of the couch just before Bo walked in the door.
Bo expressed his concern for Hope and said that things couldn't stay the way they were. Hope agreed and blamed Bo for causing all of it. Bo told Hope that he didn't want to get into a fight with Hope, but she didn't say she wanted to fight either. "You said I'm responsible for everything that's wrong in your life," he said. "Beauregard, you're hearing things that simply aren't there," Hope said.
Hope admitted that she made up the story about Ciara making up things, because she wanted to lure Bo back to the house. She said that it was the perfect place to "put a period at the end of the sentence. It's time for the two of us to say goodbye." Bo asked what kind of goodbye it was, and Hope said that he had already moved on with Carly and moved Carly into Bo and Hope's bed and into Hope's home.
Bo was scared of what Hope would do. He didn't want her to hurt herself, but she said she wouldn't do anything to hurt herself. "It's you," Hope said. "On behalf of women everywhere, goodbye Bo Brady," Hope said, as she pulled the knife from the cushions of the couch and tried to attack Bo with it.
Dr. Baker wrote a note to Hope to tell her that he was leaving, also, and that he would always love her.
8/3 Standing along the pier, Dick Baker stared at his winnings from the horse race and then said goodbye to Salem and Hope. As Dick turned to leave, he walked into a police officer. Dick greeted the officer warmly, but the officer arrested him.
At Bo's house, he nervously told Hope that she was scaring him. "I'm not going to do anything to myself," Hope purred. "It's you. On behalf of women everywhere," Hope said before grabbing a kitchen knife and thrusting it at Bo. "Say goodbye!" Hope cried out. Bo reached out and grabbed Hope's wrist, preventing her from stabbing him. "What are you doing?" Bo cried out in confusion before pushing Hope away. Still furious, Hope regained her balance and attempted to attack Bo again. "What the hell are you doing?" Bo reiterated as he struggled with Hope for the knife. "Trying to kill you," Hope responded through gritted teeth.
When Bo asked Hope why she wanted to kill him, she reminded him of all the women from his past. "You turned your back on me," Hope cried out as she slashed the back of Bo's hand. "So help me you won't ruin our daughter's life like you did mine," Hope said gruffly. Hope explained that unlike when she drugged him, she was going to "rip your heart out. Just like you did mine." With his jaw hanging open, Bo shook his head and asked, "That was you?" Confounded by Hope's admission that she had drugged him and attempted to set him on fire, Bo asked Hope why she wanted to hurt him.
Hope explained that she was protecting herself and Ciara by keeping Bo from killing them "a little bit at a time." Shaking his head, Bo noted that he wanted Ciara and Hope to live with him in their house but that Hope had moved out on her own. Hope responded that the move was her only option to help Ciara's health, and that when she wanted to talk to Bo about moving home, he had told her it was not a good time because Carly was staying with him. "You left it to me to explain to her why daddy had moved another woman into our home," Hope cried out.
Hope swore to make Bo feel what she felt before killing him. Still confused, Bo noted that Hope's demeanor when she visited him in the hospital showed that she was genuinely worried about him. "You don't want me dead," Bo said. "She doesn't!" Hope screamed. "She couldn't face that loving you was killing her," Hope said. "So she doesn't know what you're doing?" Bo asked tentatively. "She'll find out soon enough. When she wakes up and she finds out that you're dead!" Hope said as she lunged for Bo just as he threw her purse in her face.
Bo restrained Hope in his arms and begged her to stop struggling because he did not want to hurt her. "Hurt me? You killed me. You killed me," Hope said breathlessly. Once Hope was restrained in handcuffs, Bo searched the contents of her purse and found a bottle of pills. Bo called Carly and asked her if the drug he was dosed with was called Onovac. Carly confirmed Bo's question and asked if she should go home to see him. Bo assured Carly that he was feeling fine and that he was struggling to remember the details of his attack.
"You're just lucky your system is not sensitive to the drug," Carly commented. Curious, Bo asked what could happen if he had been more sensitive to Onovac. Carly explained that she had done research on the drug and learned that it could cause sleepwalking, mostly in women. Bo assured Carly he was fine, then hung up the phone. Suspicious, Hope asked Bo why he did not tell Carly what had happened. Bo assured Hope that he would help her get better. "The pills didn't do this to me. You did," Hope said defiantly.
While Hope wondered aloud how long Bo intended to keep her handcuffed, he surreptitiously placed a camcorder on the desk and pointed it toward Hope. While Hope grumbled in the corner, Bo started the camera and began to question her. Bo asked Hope to tell him her side of the story. "I'm sure you're dying to tell me what happened and why you did it, so go ahead and tell me. We got all night," Bo said.
With a deep sigh, Hope explained that the moment that she found Bo kissing Carly when he admitted to sleeping with her, that Hope knew their relationship was over. "That's when I started to fall apart. I couldn't function and I couldn't sleep, so I went to the doctor and asked him for some help," Hope said. Hope added that the doctor recommended she find a way to deal with her anger.
Bo asked if the muggings were Hope's way of blowing off steam. When Bo mentioned that Hope kept the wallets, she was surprised. Bo explained that Ciara had told him that the treasures were wallets from the muggings. "She's been a problem the whole time," Hope groused. "She's the problem? You're the one that went out mugging people," Bo pointed out. Defensive, Hope argued that she only attacked people that had done something she "hated."
When Bo inquired about the specific deeds that Hope wanted to punish, she explained that Brady remained loyal to Nicole the kidnapper and Abe was not doing anything to get rid of "the crooked D.A." Hope explained that the muggings released her anger and allowed her to sleep. "Then it stopped working. That's when I realized that the only man I wanted power over was you. And the only way to have peace was to see you dead," Hope explained without emotion.
Noting that Hope would not be able to kill him, Bo asked what her plan was. "I want you to kill me. I'm already dead. I'm not like you. I don't move on with no problem," Hope said calmly. "I've never loved another man but you. It's always been you. I couldn't watch you spend the rest of your life here with...in our house," Hope explained.
"I hate you!" Hope screamed.
"I still love you," Bo countered softly. Surprised, Hope gasped and shrank away from Bo as she cried.
"You're the love of my life but I'm not yours anymore," Hope whispered. Shaking his head, Bo apologized.
"I'm so tired. I'm so, so tired," Hope said as her head fell back against the chair. Once Bo determined that Hope was asleep, he turned off the camera, removed the handcuffs, and picked her up in his arms. Bo lay Hope onto the couch and covered her with a blanket.
"My God. What have I done?" Bo whispered with concern as he stared at Hope's face.
8/4 Roman greeted the officer on guard outside the conference room where Dick was being held. Roman vowed to find Bo's attempted murderer, while Dick listened in and tried to keep his back to the cops. Later, Roman pulled a fax off of the machine, and regarded it thoughtfully. The officer asked what it was. "It's a composite sketch of the guy who purchased the items to torch my brother's house," Roman replied. "Something about him looks familiar."
He quickly realized where he'd seen the man's face, and carried the fax into the conference room. "It is you," Roman said when he saw Dick. After Roman began interrogating him, Dick swore that he hadn't tried to burn anyone's house down, and then refused to say anything more without a lawyer. Roman refused to let Dick post bail, and then demanded to know where he'd seen Dick before.
While Hope slept on the couch, Bo did some online research on her sleeping medication. He remembered her vehemence the night before when she had shouted, "I hate you!" at him. He gently stroked her hand and whispered an apology. When Hope awoke, she couldn't figure out why she was at Bo's instead of in her bed at the Kiriakis mansion. Bo asked what the last thing she remembered was, and she replied that she had gone to bed early the previous night.
Bo poured a cup of coffee for Hope, and asked what had happened before she went to bed. She told him about the argument she'd witnessed between Carly and Vivian about Lawrence's death, and how it had unsettled her. Hope admitted that she had taken a sleeping pill, because she'd been worried she might have trouble sleeping. She was surprised when Bo showed her the empty sleeping-pill bottle. Bo then informed Hope that they had identified the mugger, and asked her to watch something.
Hope watched in confusion as he played the video he had recorded the night before, when she had confessed to mugging men who had done things she hated. Covering her mouth with both hands, she began to sob. Bewildered, she argued with Bo that she would never hurt anyone like that, but then the horrifying realization sunk in that although she remembered none of it, she had to have committed the crimes.
Hope told Bo that she had never understood why she'd felt such a connection to the mugger, and she wondered about the DNA evidence they had found against Arianna. Bo guessed that Hope had planted it. Hope shook her head and tearfully admitted that she didn't remember any of it. Bo gently reminded her, "There's a lot of things lately that you don't remember." Hope knew he was right, but she couldn't understand why she would hurt so many people. Bo began to show her some more of the tape, but she asked him to start it from the beginning, because she wanted to know every detail of what she had said and done.
When it was over, Hope just sat there in numb disbelief. "Oh, my God," she exclaimed, beginning to sob again. "What have I done?" Bo tried to reassure her that the sleeping pills were to blame, but a horrified Hope cried that she was responsible for hurting her family and friends-and for accusing their poor, confused daughter of lying. "How can I ever face them again? God, I can't even face you!" she cried, burying her face in her hands.
Bo assured her that they would get through it, but Hope argued that there was no fixing what she had done. "We've got to put an end to it," she said quietly. She thanked Bo for being so patient and understanding, but added, "You know what needs to be done. You have to arrest me."
Bo was trying to talk her out of turning herself in when a phone call from Roman interrupted them. Roman asked Bo to get to the station as quickly as he could, because they had a suspect in custody in Bo's attempted murder, and Roman suspected the man of having committed another crime against their family. Bo replied that he and Hope would be at the station soon, and added that they had some information that Roman would be interested in, as well.
Although Bo tried to talk her out of it, Hope wanted to take the video camera with them, so they could show her confession to Roman. "I need to do this for my victims, for Arianna... but most of all, for you," she stated. She declared that she was ready to face her punishment. Before they could leave, Ciara ran in the front door. "Mommy!" the little girl exclaimed, rushing to give Hope a hug. "I'm so glad you're here. I missed you and Daddy so much!"
8/5 Roman grilled Dr. Baker about his involvement in the attack on Bo. Dr. Baker pointed out that he didn't have a criminal record, and he said that Roman must have him mixed up with someone else. Roman warned Dr. Baker that the police were running his information through the system. Dr. Baker asked for his phone call, but Roman suggested that he confess his involvement in Bo's attack.
Roman recognized Dr. Baker as the doctor who had helped Nicole switch Sami's baby. Roman grabbed him and asked him if he'd switched Sami's baby with the one that Nicole had taken to the clinic. Dr. Baker wouldn't talk and asked to speak to his attorney, but Roman said it wouldn't do any good for him to get a lawyer, because it was over.
The babysitter dropped Ciara off at Bo's house, and Hope was there to greet the girl. Ciara wondered whether Hope and Bo were back together, but Hope dispelled that notion. Bo told Ciara that Julie would be over soon to watch her while Bo and Hope went somewhere. Ciara asked if Hope would return soon, and Hope said she might be gone for a while. Hope explained to Ciara that Hope did something wrong and that was why she wouldn't be back soon.
Hope said she would explain everything to Ciara, but not at the moment, because Hope didn't understand it herself. Hope apologized for not believing what Ciara had told her about the wallets, Hope's lipstick, and Justin. Hope hoped that her daughter would be able to forgive her one day for what she had done. Ciara asked if "someday" was a long time, and Hope said it was. Ciara hugged Hope and said she didn't want Hope to leave. She asked Bo to make Hope stay.
Bo said that Ciara was the most important thing to him and Hope. Ciara hugged Bo and begged him to make Hope stay with them. "Can't do this. Can't do it to her, you, us," Bo said to Hope. Julie arrived and encouraged Bo and Hope to stay at the house and work things out. Bo told Hope that Julie was right, and he asked if Hope was certain she wanted to "do this." Hope insisted that they had to, and she held Ciara and assured her that Bo and Hope loved Ciara very much and that would never change.
Julie asked again whether Bo and Hope wanted to stay and work things out, but Bo said they had to go. Bo tried to pull Ciara out of Hope's arms and give her to Julie, but Ciara yelled "no" and ran upstairs. Julie demanded to know what was going on. Hope asked Julie to watch Ciara carefully for Hope. Julie begged Hope to talk to her. Bo said he would call Julie later and explain, but Julie wanted an explanation right away and said that whatever it was, it was Bo's fault.
Julie went off on Bo over Hope's heartbreak, but Hope stepped up to defend Bo. "How typical. How typical of you. You always defend him, the man who can do no wrong, and he's broken your heart," Julie said to Hope. Hope broke down into tears and begged Julie to stop. Hope explained that it wasn't Bo, it was Hope.
Hope said didn't know if she could ever forgive herself for what she'd done. Julie still didn't understand, but Hope said she would explain later. Bo and Hope left, leaving Julie behind to watch Ciara. Ciara took a nap on Julie's lap, and when she woke up, she asked for her mommy.
At the police station, Bo and Hope walked in, and Dr. Baker called Hope's name. She and Bo turned around and looked at him.
8/6 When Doug arrived at Bo's, Julie told him that Ciara had cried herself to sleep on the couch, and that something had happened with Hope. "Our daughter is in trouble," Julie said worriedly. "And whatever it is, it is very bad." She tried to fill Doug in, but she didn't have many details other than that a defeated sounding Hope had told Ciara that her mommy had done something wrong.
Just then, Ciara woke up. "Where's my mommy?" she asked. "When's my mommy coming home?" Julie tried to encourage the little girl to nap some more, but Ciara was almost inconsolable. Caroline stopped by just then, because she wanted to apologize to Bo. After Julie got Ciara settled in the kitchen for milk and cookies, Caroline told Doug and Julie about the tension she'd witnessed between Bo and Carly.
Julie blamed Carly for the problems between Hope and Bo, and for Hope's need to take sleeping pills just to get through the nights. Caroline and Doug were stunned. "If it hurt Hope that much," Caroline mused, "I wonder what it's doing to our poor little Ciara." Julie wondered if Ciara's anxiety were because of her confusing home life, or because she was having memories from her kidnapping. Ciara returned from the kitchen and asked, "Grandma Julie, is my mommy ever coming back again?" Julie pulled the tot into her lap and rocked her gently.
"Dr. Baker's life's about to change forever," Roman was telling Nicole and Brady, just as Bo and Hope arrived at the police station. Seeing Hope's obviously frazzled state, Dick ignored Roman and quietly called, "Hope?" Hope turned to look at him without a glimmer of recognition. "You know this guy?" Bo asked her. Dick covered, maintaining that Hope didn't know him; he just recognized Detective Brady from the newspapers and around town.
Roman informed the group that there was enough evidence against Baker in Bo's attempted murder to put him away for years. Hope remembered that she had seen Dr. Baker on the pier when she'd been investigating the muggings. Dick agreed that was why Hope recognized him. "There's no other reason why this woman would know me," Dick insisted. "So this is going nowhere. She's not involved in any of this."
Hope looked intently at Dick. "I am involved," she stated as she turned to face Roman. Bo tried to stop her, but Hope continued, "I was behind the muggings. I'm the one who...who tried to kill Bo." Bo grimaced and shook his head, while Nicole and Brady's mouths fell open in shock. Dick tried to intervene on Hope's behalf, but Roman yelled for an officer to get Baker out of there. The officer forcefully shoved a handcuffed Dick into a chair at the edge of the squad room and stood over him.
"When I first saw you two come in, I knew something was off," Roman said in a low voice to Bo and Hope. "But Hope, what the hell? Why would you want to take a hit for that dirtbag?" Hope quietly maintained that what she'd said was true, and then tearfully apologized to Bo and to Roman. Roman suspected that Hope and Bo were just trying to get Baker to confess, but Bo insisted they weren't. "It does make sense that he's her accomplice," Bo added, while Dick shook his head sadly.
Roman refused to believe that Hope was responsible for the muggings or trying to kill Bo, but Hope informed him that Bo could confirm everything. Bo didn't want to say anything until Hope had a lawyer. Roman then informed Bo and Hope that Baker was the doctor who had helped Nicole with the baby switch, and demanded to know why they didn't want to let Baker to confess to trying to kill Bo when they had so much evidence. Hope urged Bo to show Roman the tape of her confession. After arguing with her about it briefly, Bo reluctantly pulled the tape out of his shirt pocket and told Roman that it would explain everything.
Roman couldn't believe his eyes as he watched the tape of "Nighttime Hope" describing her crimes. Bo explained about the side effects of Hope's sleeping pills, and how she had no conscious memories of what she'd done while under their influence. After Roman stopped the tape, Hope quietly told him, "I love you. You're one of the best friends I have in this world, and what I've done is unforgivable. I hurt you and I'm so sorry!"
Hope broke down, but Roman put his arms around her and held her tightly as she sobbed. "Do you know one of the very nice things about being somebody's friend?" he reassured her quietly. "Saying you're sorry is enough, always. We are good, okay?"
Bo maintained that he was the one who needed to apologize, because it was his fault that everything had happened. Hope argued that she had attacked all those men and tried to kill Bo. Bo insisted that if he hadn't abandoned Hope, she wouldn't have needed the sleeping pills to help her deal with the pain.
"Those damn pills, they turned you into someone else," Bo asserted. "And all that anger you felt inside toward me, it came out." Hope cut him off. "You and Roman know what you need to do, Arrest me." She asked for Roman to give them a minute alone, and after he left, she resolutely told Bo, "Do what you know is right. Please don't wait any longer. Read me my rights." Bo reluctantly complied. "Hope Brady, you're under arrest for six counts of assault, battery, and robbery." He took a deep, ragged breath before continuing grimly, "And for the attempted murder of a police officer."
8/9 Carly returned home to Bo's house where Julie was babysitting Ciara. Carly asked where Bo was, and Julie said that he had left with Hope, but Julie didn't know what was going on and was worried. Julie asked Doug what they should tell Ciara, because she was growing restless wondering where her mother was and why she wasn't home. Doug needed to break the news to Julie.
Bo tried to convince Hope to seek legal counsel, but Hope didn't want a lawyer. She said she didn't deserve to be defended. Bo reminded her that she wasn't in her "right mind" when she committed the muggings and the attack on Bo, but she was determined to pay for what she did. Hope felt like she was a danger to Bo and their friends and family. She urged him to do what was best for Ciara and not stand in Hope's way.
Bo reminded Hope that the drug was to blame, but she disagreed. She said it was because of the repressed anger that she felt. She got emotional thinking about how she had let Ciara take the blame for her lies. Ciara knew that Hope loved her, Bo said, and he urged Hope to fight. Hope said that she always fought for Ciara and made sure that she put Ciara first. Hope remembered how she once felt that Ciara would have been safer away from Bo, when in reality Ciara would have been better off without Hope all along. Carly overheard Bo tell Hope that he had always believed in Hope and always would.
Carly interrupted Bo and Hope, and Bo asked Carly for some time alone with Hope. However, Hope said it was okay, because Hope and Bo were done. Justin walked in, and Hope decided to tell him what she did to him. Hope told Justin privately that she was still responsible whether she took the pills or not, and she deserved to suffer for what she had done. She apologized for what she did to him, and said she didn't want a lawyer or a trial, because she didn't want Ciara to suffer any more than she already had.
Justin asked how much Ciara knew, and Hope said she knew that her mother was going away for a long time. Justin promised to help Ciara and said he would do whatever Hope needed him to do. Hope asked him to help her face the people she loved, something she felt was impossible to do.
At the pier, Carly asked Bo why he didn't tell her what was going on with Hope, but then she realized what a stupid question that was. He asked whether Hope would stop the erratic behavior since she stopped taking the pills. Carly said that Hope's behavior would stop eventually, but she would still have to find a way to deal with her anger.
Carly was worried about Bo, but he said that Hope and Ciara were the ones suffering. Carly was hopeful that Ciara, Bo, and Hope would get through it, because they were family and they loved each other. Carly felt partly responsible for what had happened. She called it "a chain of events that took a terrible turn." She didn't want to ask Bo to forgive Carly's role in it, because that would force him to take care of Carly when he needed to focus on Hope and Ciara. He thanked Carly for understanding. She told him she loved him, and he said he loved her too.
When Bo returned to the station, he told Justin that he felt that he should have realized what was going on with Hope. "You're damn right you should have," Justin said.
Bo insisted on staying while Hope went through booking. Hope was fingerprinted, and she took off the necklace she was wearing with Ciara's picture and asked Bo to keep it safe for her.
8/10 Dressed in her new prison blues, Hope openly wept as she sat in the interrogation room. When Julie rushed in to visit with Hope, Hope wiped her eyes. Julie objected to the presence of the police officer during her conversation with Hope, but Hope noted that it was standard procedure and Julie should not worry. Julie sat across from Hope and grasped her hand, causing Hope to start crying again. Hope asked Julie to watch over Ciara and Bo. When Hope worried about how she had destroyed Bo's life, a stern Julie reminded Hope that Bo hurt her as well.
Wiping her eyes, Hope asked Julie to leave and not come back. "Stay with my baby, okay?" Hope said through her tears. As an officer started to lead Hope back to her holding cell, Arianna arrived at the police station. "You owe me, detective. You owe me big time," Arianna said curtly.
"Yes. I do," Hope responded. An officer led Hope back to the interrogation room to talk to Arianna, and Arianna asked why Hope had framed her.
"Why do you hate me so much?" Arianna asked.
Still angry, Arianna accused Hope of using the drugs as an alibi so that she would have a defense for the muggings. Hope denied the charge, but Arianna demanded that Hope pay for her crimes. As the tears streamed down Hope's face, she agreed with Arianna's statement. Still furious, Arianna maintained that Hope was acting. "I'm not going to let you play the victim," Arianna said firmly. "There isn't a pill in this world that makes anyone that evil, that sick, that venal, unless it was always there before," Arianna said.
After Arianna left, Doug went into the interrogation room to talk to Hope about her lawyer. Hope refused to talk about a legal defense and explained that she intended to plead guilty. Scared, Doug begged Hope to accept his help and fight for her freedom. "I'm so sorry for what I'm putting you through. You must be so ashamed of me," Hope said as she fought back tears. Hurting, Doug pulled Hope in to his arms and told her that he was ashamed that he did not see how much she was hurting sooner. Doug told Hope that everyone was going to fight for her so that her life was not undone because of the drugs.
8/11 As Victor arrived at Bo's, he irritably shouted at the paparazzi to go away, and then demanded to know why Bo hadn't told him about Hope yet. An obviously weary Bo stated that he just wasn't up to dealing with Victor's anger right then. Victor apologized. Bo described how Hope had acted like a different person on the sleeping pills, and he blamed himself for everything. Victor maintained that it was all Carly's fault. "Blaming Carly, that's not going to help Hope," Bo argued. "And helping her and my daughter is all that matters right now."
Maggie walked in just then and declared that it was the first sensible thing she'd heard either man say. When she learned that Hope was refusing to talk to a lawyer, Maggie urged Bo not to let Hope push him away. Victor offered to pay for the best lawyer Bo could find. "I don't need your damn money!" Bo snapped, suddenly enraged. He immediately apologized. "What I meant to say was thank you, and I love you too," Bo stated sincerely, and then left for the police station.
"Bo and Hope... I just misjudged everything," Victor admitted to Maggie sadly. "I figured, 'they'll get through it; they always do.' But I was wrong, arrogant and wrong." Instead of gloating over his admission that he was wrong, Maggie suggested that the two of them go for a walk. Agreeing, Victor's mood instantly brightened.
An officer led Hope to a conference room at the police station, and she was dismayed to find Abe waiting to lecture her for refusing legal help. Hope insisted that she deserved to be punished for what she had done to him and her other victims. Abe argued that she deserved a fair trial with an affirmative defense, because she was under the influence of sleeping pills when she committed the crimes.
Hope contended that even if a jury bought that, "How do you think my children are going to feel?" Abe angrily pointed out that after everything Ciara had been through, Hope's throwing in the towel would only give Ciara "concrete proof that you don't give a damn about her." Lexie arrived then and ordered Abe to stop, but Hope quietly maintained that Abe was right.
After Abe left to give the women some privacy, Lexie apologized for her husband. She took Hope in her arms, and they cried together for a minute. Lexie urged Hope to take care of herself, for Ciara's sake if nothing else. As Lexie left to supervise Theo and Ciara's play date, Hope assured her friend, "Tell Abe I heard what he said." She hugged Lexie goodbye and added tearfully, "Kiss Ciara for me? Tell her I love her."
Later, E.J. entered the conference room and quietly closed the door behind him. "Hello, Hope," he said. "Think it's about time you and I had a chat, don't you?" Hope offered a sincere apology, but E.J. responded with sarcasm. "You're wasting your time," Hope cautioned him. "You're trying to make me feel bad, but you can't make me feel any worse than I already do."
E.J. declared snidely that while Hope's other victims might be lining up to forgive her, he would make sure that she paid for what she did. Bo arrived just then and warned E.J., "Don't you threaten my wife!" Hope gapes at Bo in surprise that he is referring to her as his “wife”. He ordered E.J. to leave.
E.J. calmly complied, but first cautioned Hope, "You don't get the Horton/Brady 'get out of jail free' card. Not this time." After E.J. left, Bo complained that E.J. shouldn't be harassing Hope, but she maintained that E.J. had every right to tell her off. Hope urged Bo to keep his distance from her case, because it could look bad for him professionally. Bo didn't care what anyone else thought.
As Bo was leaving, Brady arrived to visit Hope. Hope apologized to Brady, but he offered gently, "I thought maybe you should talk to somebody who understands." Brady explained that he knew that she was beating herself up, and that her family was glossing over Hope's reasons for taking the pills in the first place. "But those feelings, they always come out somehow," Brady pointed out. "Just watch out for that voice that says you can't come back. It's pretty hopeless." He urged her to think about not just the few people she'd hurt, but also the many people she had helped and not to give up.
At the lake, Abe and Lexie set up beach chairs and spread out a picnic, while Ciara and Theo played nearby. Lexie admitted that she couldn't really tell how Ciara was doing, and reminded Abe of a conversation they'd had about whether they had enough love for another child. "We know one who's definitely going to need it," she said sadly.
Abe and Lexie observed how much Ciara and Theo loved to play together, and Lexie noted that Hope had a whole network of people who would love to help look after Ciara. Abe said that Mrs. Horton had taught him that family didn't just mean people you were related to. He asserted that since their relationship was stronger than ever, "We're ready to think about more than Theo and ourselves. Expand our horizons." Lexie wholeheartedly agreed.
E.J. answered the doorbell at the DiMera mansion, and was surprised to find Bo on the doorstep. "If anything happens to Hope," Bo declared evenly. "If you or any of the DiMeras do anything to retaliate against her, I will kill you." E.J. calmly suggested that it wasn't wise for the police commissioner to threaten a private citizen.
After an icy exchange of pointed remarks, Bo emphasized that he'd meant what he said. "I hear you," E.J. assured him. "If I do anything to Hope, I'm going to incur the wrath of the man she tried to set on fire." As he turned and left, Bo stated, "I don't want to see you at the station again-unless, of course, you're in handcuffs."
8/17 At the courthouse, Hope's public defender asked why she had chosen him, when she had the money and connections for a great defense team. Hope maintained that she didn't want to waste the court's time and money on an open and shut case. "I pled guilty. I'm going to prison," she stated. Bo entered the courtroom and declared that he wouldn't let that happen. He asked to speak to Hope privately.
After the lawyer left, Hope insisted that she needed to pay for what she had done. Bo implored her to think about Ciara, who needed her mother. Hope believed that Ciara would be better off without her, and begged Bo to leave her alone. As Doug and Julie walked in, they heard a frustrated Bo call Hope a coward. Doug and Julie quickly intervened, and Doug took Bo outside to cool off while Julie stayed to try to reason with Hope.
"Hope, darling, I think you have lost your way," Julie pleaded. "And we will get you back, I swear it. But you cannot throw everything away!" When Bo returned with Doug, Hope conferred with her lawyer. Julie admitted to Bo that she didn't know what to do. "She's so depressed. Now she's frightened that she can't be trusted around Ciara," Julie fretted. Bo pulled Hope's attorney aside to speak with him privately. Afterward, Bo announced to Hope that there had been a change of plans.
8/18 At the courthouse, Bo comes in and tells Hope that they are going with Plan B. She argues that she is going to plead guilty to serve justice. He assures her that justice will be served and asks Hope to trust him. Furious, Julie interrupted Bo in order to blame him for Hope's predicament and beg him to give Hope a reason to fight for her freedom. As Justin and Abe arrived, Hope nervously asked Bo what was going on. Before Bo could answer, Judge Karen Fitzpatrick entered the courtroom and asked Hope to enter her plea for the record. Hope rose from her seat and said, "Yes, I'm guilty, your honor."
Judge Fitzpatrick asked about the new character witnesses and was surprised to learn that the witnesses were also victims of the defendant. Noting that the defense was changing its strategy, the prosecutor withdrew her plea agreement and asked the judge to apply the full 30 year sentence to Hope's guilty plea. While the prosecutor made her argument, Arianna quietly slipped into the courtroom. When the judge asked the defense to explain why Hope deserved leniency, Justin interrupted to offer a reason.
Justin took the stand as a character witness for Hope and explained that he had been friends with the defendant for over 20 years. Justin noted that his ability to testify on her behalf "spoke volumes about her psychological state." Continuing, Justin reminded the court that Hope's accomplice, Dick Baker, had refused to testify against Hope, and that Hope was pleading guilty despite having no memory of her crimes. Justin agreed that it would be a mistake to let Hope go free but that he wanted Hope to receive treatment "so that she can truly come back to us."
Abe took the stand after Justin and testified, "I'm not alone when I say that she's a victim in this herself. I hope the court will come to understand that." As Abe left the stand, Arianna asked Judge Fitzpatrick if she could address the court. After taking the witness stand, Arianna asked the court not to be lenient with Hope's sentence. "You do the crime, you do the time," Arianna said firmly before stepping down. Bo took the witness stand next, despite Hope's plea for him not to testify.
Bo testified that Hope's crimes were partly his fault. Bo explained that their marriage had hit a rough patch after Ciara was kidnapped, and that Hope had moved out. "I didn't know this was a temporary arrangement. I felt that she had moved on with her life.” Hope stares at him, shaking her head in denial that she had ever moved on without him. Bo continues, “My mistake was I moved on with mine. And that hurt her deeply," Bo said. Bo noted that Hope had been prescribed the sleeping pills because she had difficulty sleeping due to their marital woes. "She was a victim in this. As much as anyone else. Like the mayor said. And that should be reflected in her sentence," Bo added. Bo swore to be there for Hope no matter what the verdict was.
Once all the testimony was finished, Judge Fitzpatrick ordered that Hope serve a two year prison sentence and undergo psychiatric care. Elated by the reduced sentence, Hope hugged Doug and Julie. Bo interrupted Hope's celebration with Doug and Julie to apologize. Hope and Julie agreed that Bo had no reason to be sorry, since his actions had led to Hope's lenient sentence.
"I'm sorry I wasn't there," Bo said solemnly. Hope thanked Justin and Abe for helping her, and Justin urged Hope to get well. Doug and Julie promised to visit Hope as often as they could, then kissed her goodbye. Turning toward Bo, Hope said, "I guess this is goodbye."
"No, not goodbye. See you soon, Fancy Face."
8/25 At the courthouse, Roman filled Bo in about how Rafe had interrupted Sami and E.J.'s wedding. As a uniformed officer led in Dr. Richard Baker, who was handcuffed and wearing an orange jumpsuit, Bo vowed to make Baker pay. Roman and Bo commented on the notorious lenience of the presiding judge, Judge William Davis.
Baker and Bo exchanged heated words about who was more at fault for what had happened with Hope. Carly arrived just as the officer and Roman were restraining Baker and Bo to keep them from attacking each other. Once things had quieted down, Roman urged Bo not to screw things up, and to think about Hope. "Damn it, Roman, I can't think of anything but Hope!" Bo hissed.
The bailiff called the courtroom to order, and Judge Davis took his seat at the bench. The judge read the charges against Dr. Baker: conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and six counts of armed robbery. Baker's lawyer, Mr. Masters, moved that all the charges be dismissed for lack of substantiating evidence. Ms. Jenkins, the prosecutor, argued that the state would produce forensic evidence and police testimony that Baker had aided and abetted Hope Brady in the commission of the crimes.
When Judge Davis agreed to hear Mr. Masters out, Bo quietly swore to Carly that he would personally make Baker pay if the judge dismissed the charges. Roman took the witness stand, and Masters asked who the lead detective had been in the mugging cases. Roman replied that it had been Hope, and Masters noted that she was in custody for the crimes of which Dr. Baker had been accused. Masters then asked for the judge's ruling about dismissing the case. Judge Davis asked Roman to step down, and ordered both attorneys to his chambers.
After the judge and the attorneys had gone, Roman left for the police station, and Carly had to check on a patient, leaving Bo and Dr. Baker alone in the courtroom except for Baker's guard. Bo confronted Baker, who called for the guard to protect him. Ignoring him, the guard just went back to flipping through a magazine. Bo reiterated his vow to make Baker pay for what he'd done. Baker argued that he had saved Bo's life, but Bo demanded to know why Baker had not helped Hope when he'd seen the condition she was in. Baker countered, "You had everything, and you just threw it away with both hands. You drove a beautiful, smart woman who loved you out of her mind."
When Judge Davis and the lawyers returned, the judge denied the defense attorney's motion to dismiss. Ms. Jenkins then called Bo to the stand. When she asked, Bo confirmed that his wife, Hope, was in custody for attempting to kill him, but he maintained that the defendant had convinced Hope to do so. Next, Mr. Masters asked whether Bo was trying to assuage his guilt with his vendetta against Baker, but Masters withdrew the question when Jenkins objected.
Bo asked the judge if he could answer anyway, and then stated that nothing could assuage his guilt. He added that Hope had been a wonderful wife and mother, but she had been very lost, and he hadn't been there for her. Bo then declared angrily that Baker had used and manipulated Hope, and had fed on her pain for money. Despite the judge's demands for order, Bo barked at Baker, "You're going to pay for what you did to my wife!"
The judge ordered the bailiff to escort Commissioner Brady from the stand, and warned Bo that he had almost earned a contempt citation. As Bo sat back down next to Carly, he asked if he'd screwed up the case. She assured him that the judge had likely heard the point Bo was trying to make. Judge Davis asked Ms. Jenkins to call her next witness, but she stated, "Actually, Your Honor, the State rests." Masters then called his first witness: Hope Brady.
8/26 Bo was grateful for Carly's support during Dr. Baker's trial. He worried that Dr. Baker would receive a lighter sentence than Hope. Dr. Baker's attorney called Hope to the stand. She looked at Dr. Baker and then at Bo. Bo worries to Roman that Hope can’t handle the prosecutions cross examination. Dr. Baker's lawyer grilled Hope on the witness stand about her relationship with two of the victims, Bo and Roman. During her testimony as Hope becomes visibly upset and begins to cry. Bo got upset and jumped up and ordered the attorney to stop, because Hope had been through enough.
The judge threatened to have Bo thrown out of the courtroom, and Dr. Baker's lawyer continued his line of questioning. He asked Hope to read the profile that she had done on the suspected serial robber, and she reluctantly read it, saying that the suspect was fueled by rage and the attacks were "personal." The attorney asked if Hope felt she was mentally competent, and she said she didn't know. He asked if the court should use evidence compiled by a "patently crazy woman to put an innocent man away." Dr. Baker interjected, telling his lawyer to stop, but the judge ordered Dr. Baker to sit down or be thrown out of the courthouse.
The attorney continued, asking if Hope had remembered Dr. Baker committing a crime, and she said no. The lawyer suggested in his line of questioning that Hope had used Bo and Roman to find a scapegoat to make things easier on her. Dr. Baker told his attorney that he was fired, and the judge told Dr. Baker again to sit down. The lawyer continued, and Dr. Baker stood up, announcing that he was pleading guilty. The judge said it wasn't a good idea to plead guilty, so Dr. Baker asked the judge to let Hope go, because she couldn't take it.
Dr. Baker told the court that Hope should not be held responsible for something that she couldn't control. The judge said that Hope wasn't on trial, Dr. Baker was. Dr. Baker asked the judge to hurry the trial along so that Hope could leave. His lawyer told the judge that Dr. Baker was acting against advice of counsel. Dr. Baker pleaded guilty, because he was guilty, but he said he wasn't the only one, and he looked over at Bo. The judge accepted Dr. Baker's guilty plea, and as the doctor was being led out of the courtroom, Dr. Baker turned around to address Hope, but he changed his mind and left.
The officer who was guarding Hope waited outside for her transportation, as Roman asked how she was doing. She said she was fine and asked him not to worry about her. "You know that's not going to happen," Roman said. Carly left to check in with the hospital. Bo apologized to Hope for not warning her about what she would face, and she said he needed to stop trying to look after her. Bo said that Baker was right about Bo being guilty. Hope felt that Dr. Baker had known the real Hope while she didn't. Hope's transport arrived. Bo told her that Baker did not know the real Hope, because that was not who Hope was. "You keep that thought," Hope told Bo.
That night at Bo's house, Bo admitted to Carly that he was worried about Hope. Bo dreamt that Hope was in their bed, begging him to save
her. He woke up with a start and looked over to see Carly asleep next to him (they are both fully clothed).
9/3 Carly, Bo, and Ciara arrived at the lake to go fishing and have a picnic. Ciara complained, "I don't want to fish. I want my mommy to come back." Bo tried to reassure her that Hope missed Ciara just as much as Ciara missed Hope, but the little girl wasn't convinced. "Daddy, did you send Mommy to that place because you want to be with Carly now?" Ciara asked. Bo promised that wasn't the case, and reminded Ciara that her mommy had gone away because she was sick.
Ciara was confused, and Bo seemed at a loss as to how to explain, so Carly gently took over. Carly explained that Hope had taken some medicine that had made her do things she would normally never do, much like some medicine that had made Ciara sleepy. She told Ciara that she also had a daughter, and since Carly and her little girl hadn't gotten to spend much time together, she would never want to separate Ciara from her mommy. Ciara seemed to believe that Carly hadn't made Hope go away on purpose.
Later, Bo expressed his gratitude to Carly for stepping in. "You were struggling to explain what was happening with Hope to her," Carly noted. "And the thing you couldn't tell her was that her mother was having a breakdown because she was losing you." Carly added that Bo had been there for her when she had needed him, but she had since gotten back on her feet. She urged him to tell her what he needed her to do-even if it meant her leaving Salem.
9/7 When Bo entered the pub with a solemn face, an oblivious Caroline announced to him that Rafe and Sami were engaged. Surprised, Bo congratulated the couple, then asked Caroline for a moment alone with Sami and Rafe. Once Caroline was gone, Bo informed Sami and Rafe that E.J. had been shot during the night. "You know who did it?" Rafe asked as Sami squirmed nervously next to him. Shaking, Sami noted that her knees felt weak, so Rafe helped her to a chair and gently sat her down.
Looking shell-shocked, Sami said, "I can't believe that he's dead." Bo corrected Sami and explained that E.J. had been shot but was still alive. Shocked, Sami dropped the glass of water she was holding. Sami apologized for her clumsiness and explained that she was rattled. Sami explained that she was thinking about how to tell the kids their father was dead, but that she was relieved she did not have to do that. Unsure, Bo looked at Sami appraisingly and informed her that Carly and Daniel were operating on E.J.
As Sami thought about shooting E.J., Bo asked Sami for her alibi during the shooting. Startled by the question, Sami scoffed at the notion of her as the shooter. "You think I tried to kill the father of my children," Sami said accusingly. Rafe interrupted to explain that Sami was with him all night. Turning to Sami, Bo asked Sami why she had not told him her alibi. "I was offended that you would ask me in the first place," Sami yelled. After taking a breath, Sami apologized to Bo for losing her temper. Satisfied, Bo left.
Stefano and Kate were in the waiting area when Bo arrived at the hospital to question them about the shooting. Upset, Stefano walked away. Kate informed Bo that she and Stefano had spent the night on the yacht. When Bo asked Kate to help him narrow down the suspects, Kate thought about her phone call to Sami.
9/8 In E.J.'s room, Bo asked Carly and Daniel when E.J. might wake up, but Daniel replied that he couldn't even begin to guess. Daniel then surprised Bo with the news that he'd had to intervene the night before when E.J. had tried to kill Nicole. He assured Bo that Nicole had a solid alibi, since she had spent the night with Daniel and Chloe under the watchful eyes of several FBI bodyguards. Privately, Bo remembered Sami's angry reaction when he'd questioned her about where she'd been when E.J. had been shot.
Bo stopped Kate outside the Brady Pub to ask her some more questions about E.J.'s shooting. "I had this nagging feeling that you might know a little more than what you were telling me," Bo stated. Kate replied that she only knew she and Stefano had returned from spending the night on the yacht to find E.J. shot in the head. She assured Bo that she wasn't hiding anything. He seemed skeptical, but asked her to call if she thought of anything else. As Bo walked off, Kate said to herself, "If only you knew it's Sami I might be hiding."
9/9 At the Kiriakis mansion, cute scenes as Victor very sternly warns Ciara that he is not someone to be disobeyed. He then orders her to have fun today, and he ran after her off to their adventure.
9/10 As Maggie walked near the lake, she spotted Victor and Ciara playing checkers. She hung back to watch, as Ciara confided that she missed her mommy. "Grandpa, I don't want to live with Daddy and Carly. I want to live with you," the little girl declared. Victor patiently urged her to think about how much she loved her dad, and know that it would mean a lot to him if she tried to get along with Carly. Ciara still wasn't convinced, so Victor asked, "How about you do it for your dad, and for me? Okay, sweetheart?" Maggie smiled, and then quietly left.
Victor and Ciara had returned to the Kiriakis mansion when Daniel arrived. As the little girl ran into the kitchen, Daniel remarked that she seemed to be doing well. "She'd be doing a lot better if her mother were around," Victor groused. "And if her Aunt Maggie weren't abandoning her." Daniel informed his godfather that Melanie had managed to "guilt" Maggie into staying in town for a little while to help with Chloe's baby shower. A beaming Victor tried to pretend that he was happy for Ciara's sake, but Daniel saw right through him.
9/14 Jane, the prison warden, escorted Hope to her new cell, and assured Hope that no one was aware that she had been a cop. Hope's new cellmate tried to stay out of trouble, the warden said, because she had three kids she wanted to get back to. Jane added that Hope shouldn't expect any special treatment just because her husband was the police commissioner. A guard arrived with Tina, Hope's cellmate, and after he and the warden left, the two prisoners were alone.
Tina greeted her new cellmate with icy hostility. Hope saw that Tina had pictures of her children on the wall, so she pulled out a picture of Ciara. Softening a little, Tina tossed a roll of tape over so Hope could put up Ciara's photo. The two women briefly discussed their family situations. Tina remarked that Hope looked familiar, right before the guard returned with mail for the two of them. When Tina heard the guard refer to Hope as "Williams," she quickly remembered why she recognized Hope.
"You're that detective, that psycho who mugged all those guys!" Tina exclaimed. She called for the guard and begged him to get her out of there. Lenny, the guard, told Tina that it had been the warden's decision to put Hope and Tina together. After Lenny left again, Hope quietly reassured Tina that she wouldn't hurt her, but Tina wasn't buying it. "Since it's pretty clear they're not gonna move me out of here, I'm gonna have to get rid of you," Tina warned. She threw Hope down on the bunk and jumped on top of her.
When the warden and Lenny arrived a bit later, Tina was gagging and coughing. Jane ordered Lenny to take Tina to the infirmary, and then confronted Hope. Hope insisted that she had only been defending herself, because she needed to prove to everyone that she could take care of herself. Jane warned her that it would be all over the prison in no time that Hope was a former cop, because the infirmary was "an information clearinghouse." Hope pleaded with Jane not to tell Bo about the incident, and Jane replied that she wouldn't.
Lenny returned with Tina with whom he declared there was nothing wrong and the warden left the inmates with a warning not to make any more trouble. "So now you're not just a cop, you're the cop who beat me up," Tina snarled. "And everyone knows it now." Hope pointed out calmly, "You attacked me, Tina." As they each settled into their bunks, Tina warned, "Let me give you a couple of tips, sweetie: Don't shower, don't eat, and if you hear the words 'exercise yard,' run the other way."
Bo and Ciara were visiting Maggie, who presented Ciara with a new costume for her skating recital. Ciara was thrilled until she learned that Maggie was going out of town and wouldn't be there. Ciara was also upset because she couldn't talk to her mommy, and Maggie and Bo tried to comfort the little girl. Bo was trying to repair Maggie's toaster when she informed him that she had to drop some files off at the hospital before she could leave town. After Maggie left, Ciara announced that she was going to pray every night, "And then God will make [Mommy] come home."
When Carly arrived at Maggie's, Ciara greeted her with a polite, "It's very, very nice to see you again." Bo wondered why his daughter was being so formal. Ciara told him that Grandpa Victor had told her to be nice to Carly, because it would make her daddy happy. After Ciara left to put one of her drawings in Maggie's room, Carly urged Bo not to feel guilty. "I know what you've been through, and I love how much you love your family," she added. Bo maintained that he couldn't have gotten through any of it without Carly. He hoped that the letter Ciara had written to Hope had arrived, because he figured Hope could use a "boost."
9/21 At the prison, the warden visited Hope in her cell to say that she had not told Bo about the attack. The warden warned Hope, "Cops don't do real well in prison." The warden urged Hope to tell Bo about the fight, but Hope refused to say anything. "I've caused him enough pain. He needs to live his own life without feeling guilty about me," Hope said.
After the warden left, Tina returned to the cell and suggested that they make the best of their situation. A woman named Hildy stopped by the cell with a book cart and offered Hope something to read. When Hope went to take the book, Hildy grabbed Hope through the bars and put her in a choke hold. Citing the three months that were added to her sentence because of the fight, Tina blamed Hope for delaying Tina's reunion with her kids. Tina punched Hope in the stomach as Hildy held Hope tightly against the bars.
In the Brady Pub, Bo told Carly that Vivian had left town for good. "How can you be sure that that's true?" Carly asked. Bo explained to Carly about the email, but she did not believe Victor's story. Bo noted that Vivian's jewelry and passport, and Lawrence's urn were missing, but Carly pointed out that Vivian was unlikely to pass up the opportunity to hog the spotlight at the memorial she set up. Nodding, Bo said that Vivian had overheard Victor say unkind words about her to Brady.
"Victor doesn't say nice things to Vivian's face. What did she expect him to say behind her back?" Carly asked. Bo agreed but added "You're so used to having Vivian around tormenting you that you don't believe that she's gone for good." "I don't believe she's gone for good. She's up to something," Carly said. Carly said that Victor was naïve to believe that Vivian had left, but she believed Victor was so relieved to be rid of Vivian that he couldn't think straight.
Bo called the Kiriakis mansion, and Brady answered the phone in the living room. Bo told Brady that he was going to investigate Vivian's disappearance because her departure did not "add up." When Brady protested, Bo noted that he wanted to be sure that Vivian was not scheming.
In the pub, Ciara overheard Bo and Hope talking about Vivian. "I don't like her. She's scary," Ciara said. After Bo told Ciara that Vivian was gone, a relieved Ciara gave Carly a drawing she'd made. Ciara hugged Bo, then went back upstairs. Bo thanked Carly for being in Ciara's life until Hope could return home. Bo admitted that he had not heard from Hope, and he explained that he was worried he had not received any news from the prison. As if on cue, the warden from the prison called his cell phone. The warden informed Bo that Hope had been attacked twice. After hanging up the phone, Bo fretted, "She should never have been put in general population. This time she was put in the hospital." Bo swore to help Hope.
9/22 At the Brady Pub, the warden from the prison where Hope was incarcerated met with Bo over coffee. Warden Smith advised Bo that Hope had spent the night in the infirmary, though her injuries had not been serious. The warden was worried because the general prison population had become aware that Hope had been a cop, and Hope had refused additional security.
Bo demanded that Warden Smith put Hope in isolation as soon as she was released from the infirmary, but the warden reminded him that the prison wasn't his jurisdiction. "I don't follow," Bo noted irritably. "You came all the way here to tell me that there's a dangerous situation, and yet you imply that you cannot guarantee my wife's safety." With a somewhat smug smile, Warden Smith assured Bo that she would do everything she could to ensure that Hope was safe. Bo was skeptical.
When Bo met Carly at the mausoleum, he declared ironically that his sister would have deemed the sarcophagus "a little bit over the top." Carly admitted that seeing the sarcophagus had immediately made her suspect that Vivian wasn't really gone, but Bo assured her that she didn't have to worry about Vivian anymore. "How can you say that?" an anxious Carly demanded. "She could be out there right now, waiting to strike, because she has something really, really bad in mind!"
In the mausoleum, Carly's cell phone alerted her that she had an email, which she then read aloud to Bo, "Dearest Carly, I may be gone, but I'll never forget what you did to Lawrence. My broken marriage takes priority right now, but I'll heal and I will be back. Vivian." Bo declared that it meant Carly and Melanie would be fine, because Vivian seemed to be admitting defeat. Bo announced that it was time to leave the creepy mausoleum, and Carly agreed. "I think Isabella would be happy for us, being together," she asserted. Bo concurred that his sister was their guardian angel.
10/5 In the prison infirmary, the warden told Hope that Bo had made arrangements for an isolated cell and a job in the infirmary. Hope was upset to learn that Bo had pulled any strings to help her, but the warden informed Hope that she agreed with Bo because it would help keep Hope alive for the remainder of her sentence. After the warden left, Hope received instructions on her job from a prisoner named Lee. When Lee commented on how lucky Hope was to have a man like Bo, Hope agreed. "I want to make things right with him is all. This morning I took the first step," Hope said.
At the Brady Pub, Bo shared a sundae with Ciara. Noticing how quiet Ciara was, Bo asked her if she was okay. "I miss, mommy. When can we go visit her?" Ciara asked. Bo assured Ciara that she would get to visit her mother soon.
Kayla arrived at the pub and gave Ciara a stuffed bear. As Ciara went to show her grandmother her new bear, Bo hugged his sister. When Kayla mentioned that she was going to stay with Caroline while she was in town, Bo offered Kayla a place to stay. Noting that she did not want to stay in the house with Carly, Kayla declined Bo's offer. "That woman has zero integrity. She lies her head off as long as she gets what she wants," Kayla added.
"So the fact that I love her makes no difference to you?" Bo asked gruffly. Kayla said that she was worried about Hope. "Life hasn't been rosy for me either," Bo said. Kayla hugged Bo, and told him that she was going to see Hope at the prison. "Tell her I said hello," Bo said softly. With a nod, Kayla left.
In the prison infirmary, Hope talked to a patient about her arm injury. When the patient became upset, Hope consoled her. "I don't know how I ended up here. I was always the good girl," the prisoner cried out as she held her arm. Hope admitted that she had a similar journey as a prisoner, and Hope added, "I don't know who I am anymore."
After Hope finished up at the clinic, the guards took her to the visitors' area. Once Hope was gone, the warden returned to the infirmary and asked Lee how things had gone with Hope. "Everything's gonna work out just fine," Lee assured the warden.
At the visitors' area of the prison, Hope was surprised to find Kayla waiting to see her. As Kayla rushed to greet Hope, the guard advised Kayla that she could not have contact with the prisoners. "You have my full support, and I love you. I always will," Kayla said softly to Hope. Kayla urged Hope to let Bo visit her.
"His freedom? I'm going to give it to him," Hope said. Hope explained that she had asked Justin to deliver divorce papers to Bo.
"You and Bo are destined to be together. I will never believe otherwise. Never," Kayla said.
Justin and Bo run into each other at The Pub. Justin shows Bo the divorce papers and tells Bo that all he has to do is sign them. Bo looks upset as he acknowledges that if he signs these, that his marriage would be over.
10/11 Hope alerted Lee to a clerical error in the paperwork, and Lee said Hope must have been very thorough because she was a cop. Hope said that if Lee was thinking of trying anything, she should know that Hope was incarcerated because she had attacked guys that were bigger than her. Lee told Hope to relax, because she had nothing against cops. Lee explained that she was there because of her ex, a drug dealer.
The prison guard took in a girl who had appendicitis. The girl asked Hope not to leave her. Hope assured the girl that she wasn't going anywhere. Hope asked the guard to get the girl to the hospital. After the ambulance arrived, Hope was called to the visitor's room and realized when she got there that Bo was there to see her. Meanwhile, Lee told the corrections officer that she hoped that Hope would stay in the visiting area for a while.
Bo found Daniel hugging Carly on the pier. Daniel said he was "the happiest man on the planet," because he was marrying Chloe. Daniel left to prepare for his wedding, and Bo commented on how happy Carly seemed to be. Carly said she had only decided to go to Salem to make sure that Vivian hadn't taken Lawrence's murder out on Melanie, and Carly hadn't cared about herself and Bo. Bo recounted how he'd felt destroyed when Hope had moved out and said she wanted a divorce.
Carly said she had been shocked at hearing that Bo and Hope had broken up. She had assumed that Bo and Hope would always be together. Carly was happy that her and Melanie's relationship was going so well. Abe interrupted them and asked about Hope. Carly left to go to the hospital. Bo said that Hope wouldn't let him visit her but instead had sent divorce papers. Bo was worried about Hope. Abe got a call from Theo and Ciara's school and learned that Ciara had been harassed by one of the kids.
10/12 Bo visited Hope in prison, and he asked her for help. Bo explained that a boy was bullying Ciara at school. Raising an eyebrow, Hope noted that the same kid had bullied Ciara before. Bo asked Hope to reach out to Ciara and let her know that her mother would always be there for her. "The reason she is being bullied is because of me," Hope lamented.
"It's not these bars that are keeping you from your daughter; it's your guilt. That guilt isn't doing her any good," Bo said sternly. Bo urged Hope to remember that they had destroyed their marriage together and they needed to repair their family "together." Bo asked Hope for her perspective so that he could pass it along to their daughter.
"Tell her not to avoid him but not to talk to him. And if he starts talking about me again, you tell her to look him right in the eye but not to say anything. She shouldn't engage," Hope advised. When Bo said Ciara might have difficulty holding her tongue, Hope suggested that Ciara should think of the bully in a pink tutu. "Tell her that he's the one with the problem," Hope concluded.
After Bo left, Hope went to the infirmary to work. When Hope asked Lee about April's appendectomy, Lee informed Hope that April was not out of surgery yet. Concerned, Hope pressed Lee for details about April's surgery. After taking a deep breath, Lee informed Hope that April had passed away.
10/18 At the Brady Pub, Bo and Carly were ready to pick Ciara up to take her to school, but Ciara pretended to be sick so that she could skip school and see Hope. Bo tried to warn Ciara about Hope being in jail, but she didn't care as she wanted to see her mother.
The warden asked Lee how things had gone with Hope, and Lee assured the warden that she had it covered. Hope walked in and got suspicious. Hope asked what they had been talking about, and the warden said they had been talking about her. The warden said that Lee had discovered that another trustee had found out Hope was a cop and had been planning an attack on her. That trustee had been transferred to another section to protect Hope.
Hope asked about April and why she had died. The warden didn't know the details, but she said that April had died when her appendix burst. Hope wanted an investigation into why April had not been operated on sooner. Hope offered to have Bo investigate, but the warden said an independent investigator needed to look into it. The warden received a call. It was Bo, who asked if he could take Ciara to visit Hope. The warden gave her approval and said "the sooner the better."
Ciara visited Hope in jail, and Hope was overjoyed to see her. Hope hugged her daughter. Then she realized that she couldn't have physical contact with her visitors. Ciara told Hope about how much Ciara had grown. Hope realized that Ciara should have been in school, and Bo explained that Ciara didn't want to go to school. Hope told Ciara that she was lucky to go to school with Ciara's best friend, Theo. Ciara asked if Hope had a best friend in jail, but Hope said no. Ciara asked if someone had been bullying Hope, and Hope told Ciara not to worry about her.
Hope said she dealt with it by learning to accept help from those who were willing to help her. Ciara showed Hope pictures of her as a ballerina. Hope told Ciara that she loved her, and Ciara said she loved Hope too. Ciara held Hope's hand. Ciara didn't want to leave when visiting hours were over, and Hope assured her that they would see each other again. Hope said that they would be together in their hearts.
The warden asked Lee if Hope had asked any more questions about April. Lee said that she had played dumb with Hope. The warden was worried that Hope had suspected something, and they couldn't have that.
10/20 When E.J. arrived at the police station, Bo was waiting for him. E.J. refused to talk without his lawyer, so Bo offered to do the talking. "I hear from witnesses that you violated a restraining order against you," Bo stated. E.J. countered that it had merely been a coincidence that he, Sami, and Sydney had been at the hospital at the same time, and he had acted instinctively when he'd seen his daughter.
Bo didn't buy any of it. E.J. maintained that the children were in far more danger from Samantha than from him, but Bo reminded him that Sami had an alibi for the night of the shooting. E.J. pointed out that Sami's alibi was Rafe, a man who was in love with her. "Where was Will during all of this?" E.J. wondered. Bo scoffed that Will was not a killer and E.J. had kidnapped his own child, and hidden the truth from Sami.
"Who had a stronger reason to want me dead?" E.J. reasoned, noting that Samantha had possessed the means, motive, and opportunity to try to kill him. "I think you need to consider Samantha your number-one suspect," E.J. declared. "Since you've done nine-tenths of my job for me, do me a favor," Bo replied. "Finish it off: Tell me, how do I prove this?"
Dvd #79B 10/21 E.J. told Bo it was obvious that Sami's alibi was shaky, since Rafe was in love with her. He said that Sami had also had motive and opportunity. Bo asked E.J. to prove E.J.'s theory. He called E.J.'s accusation "unsubstantiated," pointing out that E.J. had been drunk at the time of the shooting and had a personal vendetta against Sami. E.J. accused Bo of covering for Sami, and Bo reminded E.J. that E.J. had tried to use the police for his own means.
E.J. warned Bo that he didn't need the police to prove who had shot E.J. Bo ordered E.J. to comply with the court order and stay away from Sydney and Johnny. E.J. was amused at Bo's "Brady bravado." He said the "House of Brady" was falling in, beginning with Hope and ending with Sami. E.J.'s lawyer showed up with E.J.'s release papers, and Bo predicted that he would see E.J. again when E.J. got arrested for kidnapping Sydney.
Kayla finds Sami and Arianna in a physical confrontation. Kayla ran into Bo and told him about Sami and Arianna's confrontation. Bo stopped by Sami and Rafe's apartment, saw the broken table, and asked Sami what had happened. Sami made up an excuse. Bo said Kayla had told him about Sami saying something about Arianna ruining Sami's life. Before he could interrogate Sami further, Bo got a phone call and had to leave.
10/22 The paramedics tended to Arianna outside of the pub after she had been hit by a car, Bo questioned Will and E.J. about why Arianna had run into the street. "I don't know!" Will replied shakily. "I was trying to talk to her, and she suddenly just shoved me away and took off. And this guy came, he barely had time to hit the brakes." E.J. added that the driver had paused for a second, but then he had driven away. Will tried to give Bo a description of the car.
In a private waiting room, E.J. explained to Bo that Arianna had asked him to meet her at the pub because she had something to show him, but when he had arrived, she had been arguing with Will. Sami and Will walked in just as Bo asked what the argument had been about. "I'd ask him," E.J. replied. "I'm sure he'll give you a good answer or a quick lie."
Sami retorted indignantly, "How dare you make unfounded accusations against my son!" E.J. and Sami exchanged heated words until Bo shut them up. Bo was about to question Will about the argument, but Maxine interrupted to tell them that Arianna was out of surgery and on her way to a room.
"Dr. Walters and I are cautiously optimistic," Lexie concluded. E.J., Rafe, and Bo all asked to see Arianna, but Lexie cautioned them that she could only allow immediate family members until Arianna's condition improved. E.J. advised Bo to station a police officer outside the door to protect Arianna from Sami and Will.
Sami was incredulous, but E.J. maintained, "It would be very convenient for the two of you if she didn't recover from her injuries, and she wasn't able to show me the evidence that she has." Bo wasn't interested in E.J.'s conspiracy theories, and asked Sami and Will to follow him into the waiting room.
In the waiting room, Bo asked Sami what she and Arianna had argued about earlier that day. "It's personal," Sami replied evasively. "I'm marrying her brother; she's gonna be my sister-in-law. You know, that kind of thing." Unconvinced, Bo asked Will about his argument with Arianna. Will claimed that he'd only been sticking up for his mom after her fight with Arianna. "I warned Arianna to lay off," Will explained. "And she got upset, and then she just ran off." Bo cautioned them that he was going to interview Arianna as soon as she woke up. As Sami and Will left the waiting room, they saw Officer Perkins arrive to give Arianna's purse to Bo. Bo instructed her to leave it with the head nurse, and then Bo left to check out the accident scene again.
When Carly arrived outside the pub, Bo informed her about the hit and run on Arianna. Carly was shocked, but she could tell that something more than the accident was upsetting Bo. He reluctantly told her that Sami and Will were somehow involved, but he hadn't figured out yet exactly what was going on.
10/28 This episode begins abruptly as Victor is asking Bo if he knows where Brady is now? (Arianna has died, but we do not see Bo finding out nor Victor). Victor was worried that Brady would start using drugs again. Bo told Victor that Hope had concerns about Ciara visiting her, but Bo had thought it was important for Ciara to visualize where Hope was. Victor thought that Ciara should visualize Hope at home, and he didn't understand why Bo and Hope had just given up.
Victor said that the governor should pardon Hope like he had done for Nicole, but Bo said that wasn't what Hope wanted. Victor didn't care, and he planned to call the governor and tell him that Titan news planned to do an exposé on the drug company that had ruined Hope's life and how much that company had contributed to the governor's campaign.
Bo said that Hope didn't want that, she wanted to go it alone. Victor asked whose fault that was, and Bo admitted that it was his fault and mocked Victor for his accusation. Victor said that Hope deferred to Bo, and if Bo had pushed harder, she would have looked at things differently. Bo got upset, and Victor suspected that he had hit a nerve. Victor said that Bo's family was in big trouble, and Bo needed to do something about it. Bo realized that Victor was right.
Hope asked Lee about the investigation into April's death, but Lee didn't seem interested in talking about it. Hope was frustrated that no one had told her about the results of the investigation. Lee sent Hope on an errand while Lee called the warden to tell her that Hope had been asking more questions. When Hope returned, Lee said that the investigation might take months, and Hope said that was what bad cops did when they were trying to hide something. She said that if corners were cut, the warden would want to know about it.
The warden overheard Hope and asked what she was referring to. Hope said that she was referring to April's death, and the warden said that something bad had happened, April had died. Hope asked if the warden wanted to know why. The warden said that the investigation confirmed that April had died of septic shock. Hope wondered why it had taken so long for April to get an operation. The warden said that the delay wasn't the issue, and she showed April's paperwork to Hope. She told Hope that there wasn't anything anyone could have done for April.
Hope looked at the paperwork and realized that April had been cremated already. The warden pointed out that those had been April's wishes. The warden got a call that Bo was there to visit Hope. When Hope met Bo, he delivered the news about Arianna's death. Hope was saddened by the news. She said she had written a letter to Arianna, asking for forgiveness. Bo said that Arianna had told him that she'd known it was the medication, and Hope had not deliberately set Arianna up. Hope realized that Arianna had forgiven her, and Bo said that it was time for Hope to forgive herself.
Hope said Arianna's forgiveness didn't change the way Hope felt about herself. She told Bo about the circumstances surrounding April's death and that she suspected a cover-up. She said they hadn't even done an autopsy. Bo volunteered to look into it, but Hope wanted to handle it. She said Bo wasn't on the inside like she was. Bo asked Hope to tell him if something else happened. He reminded her that she wasn't a cop anymore, so she wasn't protected.
10/29 When Bo met Kayla at the Brady Pub, she told him that she needed to talk to him about Carly. Kayla wondered whether Bo really knew what Carly was capable of after they had been apart for so many years. Kayla hinted that Carly had made Bo "abandon" Hope. Bo became exasperated, declaring, "You have to accept reality: Carly is my future. Nothing you can say will change that."
Bo added that he would never turn his back on Hope, and he would do whatever he could to help and support her. "Ciara will see her mother as much as possible," he asserted, his voice breaking as he continued, "Hope will always be a part of my life, a part of my heart, so please, don't diminish that." He left to take a phone call.
Carly was sitting miserably on a bench by the water later when Kayla approached. Although obviously upset and distracted, Carly suggested that they should get together for dinner before Kayla left town again. Kayla coldly replied that she was leaving that night then demanded, "How do you live with yourself?"
Carly assumed that Kayla was referring to Bo and Carly's relationship, which prevented Bo and Hope from living happily ever after, and angrily reminded Kayla that Bo and Hope had been apart before Bo had gotten involved with Carly. "Who Bo decides to love and spend his life with is not for you to decide!" Carly practically yelled, and she stormed off. Kayla told herself that she needed an ally, and left in the opposite direction.
Bo found a distressed Carly on the pier later and asked what was wrong. "Kayla thinks I broke up your marriage, and she'll never stop hating me for it," Carly explained.
11/1 Maggie visited Hope in jail, and Hope told her about April's death and how all of the women in prison were lonely. Maggie said she had heard from Jennifer, and Hope said she had received a letter from Jennifer. Hope told Maggie about Bo's visit and how Victor had visited Hope the week before. Maggie said Victor loved Hope and would do anything for the people he loved.
Maggie told Hope that she and Victor were just friends. Maggie said she was sure, and she explained that Victor wasn't the kind of man that Maggie could be seriously involved with. Maggie also couldn't imagine being with anyone other than Mickey. Hope related to what Maggie said. She said that being able to love someone and to be loved in return was all that mattered. Hope had thought about all the years she had wasted, and she realized that she and Bo had once had a strong marriage. Maggie could tell that Hope missed Bo.
Hope went to the infirmary and found Lee there doing some filing. Lee asked Hope to do an inventory of the nonprescription drugs. After Lee left, Hope looked in the filing cabinet for information and discovered something shocking.
At the pier, Carly told Bo that Kayla would never stop blaming Carly for breaking up Bo's marriage. Bo said that Kayla had her own version of the truth, which ignored the fact that Hope had moved out of their house and taken Ciara with her.
Chloe ran into Carly and Bo at the pier and told them about her honeymoon. Bo asked when Chloe was due, and she said the next month. Chloe invited Bo and Carly over for dinner. Bo asked when Chloe and Carly had become friends. Carly explained that she and Chloe had become friends, and when she found out Chloe was pregnant, they were able to put their differences aside.
Bo told Carly that they had a lead on the hit and run driver from Arianna's accident. Chloe hadn't heard the news, so Bo and Carly filled Chloe in on Arianna's death. Chloe realized that Arianna had been close with Melanie. Chloe said Daniel had called, which made Chloe think that was what he was calling about. After Chloe left, Bo told Carly that he didn't buy Carly's version of how Chloe and Carly's friendship began. Carly said it didn't make a difference how she and Chloe had become friends, and she said it was a good thing that she and Chloe were getting along, since Daniel was Melanie's father. Bo agreed to drop it. He said he was on edge because of Kayla's disapproval of them.
11/2 Alone in the prison infirmary, Hope searched in a filing cabinet for April's file. She was alarmed when she found the file of an inmate who had died of cardiac arrest during surgery to repair a broken leg. When Hope heard Lee and the warden's voices in the hallway, she quickly closed the file cabinet drawer and resumed doing inventory. After Hope informed the warden and Lee that everything with the inventory was in order, Lee left for the storage room. Hope told Warden Jane that she was worried about behavioral problems that her daughter was exhibiting, and asked if the warden could arrange another visit from the girl's father. Jane agreed to call Bo.
Outside the Brady Pub, Bo questioned an obviously upset Kayla about what was wrong. Kayla was about to tell him that Caroline had switched Chloe's paternity test results for Chloe’s baby when Carly arrived. When he saw the icy glance that passed between Kayla and Carly, Bo firmly told Kayla that, regardless of whether she approved, she had to respect his and Carly's relationship. Kayla apologized to Carly for having been unfair and judgmental, and Bo and Carly were both grateful. (Note: Kayla had thought that Carly had been the one who switched the results.
"Don't you want to know why I've made a complete 180 here?" Kayla asked, a bit peeved. "I mean, aren't you curious either of you?" Although Bo maintained that he didn't need to know the reason, Kayla said that she needed to tell him. Kayla led Carly and Bo inside, where they found Caroline working.
"I'm glad you're still here," Kayla declared. "Because what I am saying to Bo and Carly concerns you, too." Caroline implored, "Kayla, please, don't do this!" Just as a completely bemused Bo demanded to know what was going on, Stephanie and Nathan excitedly burst in to announce their engagement.
"You are now looking at the future Dr. and Mrs. Nathan Horton!" Stephanie proclaimed as she showed off her ring. Everyone hugged and congratulated the happy couple. Stephanie noted that the others seemed to have been in a serious conversation, but before anyone could respond, a phone call to Bo's cell phone interrupted them. Bo cut in to let Kayla and Caroline know that Hope needed to see him, so whatever Kayla needed to tell him would have to wait.
A guard escorted Hope to the visitors' area, where she found Bo waiting for her. Bo asked why Hope was worried about Ciara, but Hope replied that she hadn't really called him about their daughter. "It's this place," she whispered. "Something is definitely wrong, and it has to stop."
11/4 Hope tried to tell Bo what she suspected surrounding April's death, but she noticed the guard listening in on their conversation. Bo hated that he couldn't protect her while she was in jail. He tells her he let her down and he is not going to let her down again. Hope began speaking in code. She said that in her therapy sessions, she'd decided not to be so aggressive, by not asking so many questions anymore. Bo asked how that was working out for her.
Hope said she had gotten some answers anyway and found out that some situations were different than she thought they would be. "Sometimes you don't want to push so much," Bo said. He asked if Hope thought there was anything they could do with what she had found out. Bo gave Hope an update on Ciara and her reading progress. Hope began speaking in code again.
"Do you remember last April, yeah, I think that's when it was, that Ciara had that fall?" Hope asked. "Well I forgot to mention that the orthopedist wanted to see her again after six months," she said, adding that she couldn't remember the doctor's name. She asked him to "do the legwork" for her.
"Come to think of it, maybe you should get a second opinion or two," Hope said. Bo assured her that he would take care of it.
The warden told Lee that her contact had confirmed that Ciara really was "a mess." Lee asked if the warden believed that Hope was passing along information to Bo. The warden said Hope didn't know that much. "Now," Lee interjected. The warden decided that Hope needed to go.
The warden made a call and found out that she couldn't get Hope taken off of infirmary duty, because "the brass started asking too many questions." The warden decided it was time for Plan B. When Hope returned to the infirmary, Lee told her that an inmate had died from tuberculosis, which was contagious. Hope believed that inmate's death confirmed her suspicions.
Bo told Carly what Hope had told him about April, and Carly suggested that they get the information Hope needed. Carly planned to discreetly ask about the medical setup in the prison without raising suspicion.
11/12 A guard escorted Hope to the prison visitors' area, where she was stunned to see her cousin Jennifer. But instead of reacting with delight, Hope covered her face with her hands miserably. "What are you doing here?" she asked, looking at the floor. Jennifer was taken aback and said, "Is it just me, or are you not really happy to see me?"
After the guard cautioned Jennifer against physical contact with the prisoner, she left Hope and Jennifer alone. Hope confessed that it was hard for her to see people whom she'd let down, and then asked why Jennifer had returned to Salem. Jennifer looked at her with amazement, and stated, "Hope, I came back here to get you the hell out of here!"
Jennifer explained that she'd been researching the drug that Hope had taken. Hope maintained that she knew all the data about the medication, but instead of presenting an affirmative defense, she had chosen to atone for her crimes by being imprisoned. Exasperated, Jennifer countered, "The kids are gone, Abby is doing a semester in Spain; Jack Junior is at boarding school and I am free. And I want to get you to be free with me!"
Hope was touched, but wondered where Jack was. Jennifer explained that Jack was "off chasing a story," and she had some things to work out with her grandmother's estate. Hope was sorry that she couldn't help Jennifer deal with that, but Jennifer just wanted to know how Hope really was doing. Hope insisted that she was fine, because Bo had pulled strings so that she could work in the prison infirmary.
Hope added that she thought Jennifer wanted things to go back to the way they were, but Hope couldn't give her that. Jennifer admitted that her visit was partially intended to add to the pressure on Hope to fight to get back to her life. Hope assured Jennifer, "I am so thrilled to see you. You're not just my cousin; you're like my sister, and I love you. I really want to see you again, would you come back before you return to London, please?"
Hope rose to return to her cell, and a worried Jennifer asked if Hope needed anything. Hope insisted that she was "good," but Jennifer wasn't buying it. She pulled Hope into an embrace, and just then, the guard returned. "I told you, no physical contact!" the guard barked. Jennifer made Hope chuckle by continuing to hug Hope, and barking right back, "Why don't you come in here and stop me, then?"
Bo was on his cell phone at the Brady Pub, angrily ordering an employee to widen the search for Arianna's killer, when Carly arrived. After he hung up in frustration, Carly informed him that she'd done some research, to see if she could find out anything more about the death of the inmate at the prison and she'd actually found out something interesting. Bo wondered how he could get the information to Hope.
Bo called Jane, the warden at the prison, and asked if he could see Hope again, even though he'd already visited once that day. While Lee listened in, Jane reminded Bo that it wasn't a good idea to show him or Hope any kind of special treatment by bending the rules. She asked if she could relay a message to Hope. Bo wanted to tell Hope that he had some new information about her case, and that Ciara was doing fine. When Bo hung up, he admitted to Carly that the warden didn't trust him so he couldn't be the one to pass on Carly's information to Hope. Carly declared that it was time for Plan B. Bo was worried about Carly's safety, but she argued that Hope had to be their first priority.
Jane worried to Lee that Hope had voiced her suspicions about April's death to Bo. "We gotta find a way to keep the commissioner at bay, and keep an eye on Hope," Jane maintained, adding, "If she starts getting mouthy, we'll find a way to shut her up."
Bo was just leaving the Brady Pub when Jennifer arrived. After they hugged, Bo was surprised when Jennifer divulged that she'd already visited Hope. Jennifer admitted that Hope seemed "really, really closed down," but she'd also seemed almost as excited about working in the infirmary as she had been when she'd become a detective. As they went inside and sat down, Jennifer demanded to know why Hope felt like she needed to punish herself.
Bo didn't know, because he knew how much Hope missed Ciara. Jennifer contended that Hope missed Bo, as well, but Bo disagreed. Jennifer then explained why she had returned to town, and admitted with a smile that she was struggling with "empty nest syndrome." Jennifer said that she had really missed Salem, because all of her friends and family were there.
"Who knows? Maybe I'll come back for good," she added.
"Hope would love that; so would I," Bo replied. "But what's really going on here?"
Hope was surprised when the guard led her back to the visitors' area and even more surprised to find Carly waiting for her. After the guard left, Carly quietly divulged that Lee Michaels, the woman with whom Hope was working in the infirmary, had been a doctor before she'd had her license revoked for illegally prescribing painkillers -- which was why she was in prison. Hope was blown away, since Lee had not helped when April had gotten sick, and she had lied about why she was in prison.
Hope added that Lee had also claimed that a patient had died of tuberculosis, when the death had been from cardiac arrest after a broken leg. Hope and Carly concluded that Lee had probably had something to do with the deaths. Carly told Hope that Bo wanted her to be careful, and Hope thanked Carly for looking into April's death. Hope wanted to know how Bo was doing. "Not good," Carly admitted. "Hope, how could he be? You're in here."
Jane learned that Hope had just had her second visitors in the span of a couple of hours and neither visitor had been on Hope's original list of friends and relatives. "I don't like it," Lee complained. Jane declared, "If Hope keeps asking questions about April, she may just need to be isolated."
11/15 At the Brady Pub, Jennifer told Bo that she had some time to visit. Bo asked what Jack had "pulled this time," and Jennifer said Jack had left her. She said that Jack had gone on a walkabout alone. Jennifer said she was hurt, because it seemed like Jack would rather be alone than be with her. Bo said Jack was "a jerk." Bo asked if Jennifer would give Jack another chance, and she said she didn't know.
Jennifer said it wasn't that she didn't love Jack, she just didn't want to do it anymore; she didn't want to be blindsided again. Jennifer said maybe Jack wasn't a jerk, and maybe she was a shrew who drove Jack away. She asked Bo to keep her situation with Jack to himself and said she didn't want his sympathy. Jennifer called Bo "kind of a jerk too." "The more people Hope has on her side, the better," he said.
Hope asked Carly how Bo was, and she said "not good," because Hope was in jail. Hope thought that it was because he felt guilty about her, but Carly said it was more than that. Carly said that Bo respected Hope and wanted her to be a part of Ciara's life. Hope said that Bo thought she had given up, but she felt she deserved her punishment. Carly understood because she knew what it was like to face the unthinkable.”You must just be thrilled that I think we have something in common," Carly said.
Hope said, "Yeah, right. Friend me when you get back." To which Carly joked, "You'd like that, wouldn't you?" Carly asked why, if Hope didn't think that Bo respected Hope, Bo had sent Carly to see Hope, Hope said she thought that Bo had sent Carly there to give Hope the information about Lee Michaels. Carly pointed out that if Bo really wanted to, he could have had Hope transferred to another facility in less than 24 hours. Carly said that Bo wanted her to give Hope the information so that Hope could fix whatever was going on in the jail.
Carly said he knew that the situation was very dangerous, but he was on Hope's side and wanted Hope to start fighting back. Hope said she was glad Carly was there. Carly thought that Bo was doing the right thing by helping Hope, and Carly wanted to do all she could to support that. Carly thought that when she was ready to leave, they should appear to be friendly in case Carly had to return. Hope told her not to be too friendly, because the people there knew the details of Hope's domestic life. "Okay, so no BFFs, just two women trying to make the best of a tough situation," Carly said.
Lee called Hope to the infirmary to input information into the computer. She asked about Hope's visitor, and Hope said she was sure Lee already knew, since the prison was "an information clearinghouse." Lee said that pretty soon the visits would stop, because the visitors' lives went on while the prisoners were stuck inside. Hope asked about Lee's career background, and instead of answering, Lee rushed off.
The warden was impressed that Hope was still working, and Hope said she liked keeping busy. Hope asked about the warden's background after the warden talked about how she couldn't believe she had decided to pursue her career. The warden said she had fallen into it after college. Hope asked how Lee ended up in prison, but the warden said Lee had been there so long, the warden couldn't remember.
Carly told Bo that Hope hadn't had any idea that Lee had been a doctor. Carly said that Hope had been upset that Lee hadn't tried to help April at all when April was sick. Bo felt that the information would convince Hope not to give up on the case. Carly asked if that was what Bo had wanted in the first place. Bo asked what Carly meant, and she said that it was good that Hope was on a case and that she was doing something. After Bo left, Carly thought to herself that it wasn't over between Bo and Hope, "not even close."
11/17 At the Brady Pub, Carly asked Bo to accompany her to the hospital to give her gift to Chloe's baby. Jennifer showed up, as Bo was leaving.
*Note: Bo says he has to step out to make some calls but he will be back, but he never comes back. He is next seen at the hospital as he comes up to Carly to say goodbye (we never saw them leave the pub nor arrive at the hospital). It felt like something was missing so went back and rechecked the dvd and the write ups and no just the way that episode was edited. Sometimes they delete scenes to make the show fit, but in this case in an edit it feels like something is missing.
Jennifer was glad to see Carly. Carly observes that it is difficult for Jennifer to see her with Bo. Jennifer admits it is harder than Carly could know.
Note: I didn’t include Carly inviting Jennifer to go to the hospital with her to met her daughter and Daniel, her father. So that gave it more context than just Bo disappearing and then popping in to the hospital to say goodbye.. assumption is he arrived with Carly (unseen). Would have been better not to have him in the hospital scene saying goodbye since we didn’t see him arrive!
11/18 At Sami and Rafe's apartment, E.J. tried to expose Sami's secret to Bo, but Bo didn't want to hear it. In fact, he reminded E.J. about the restraining order against him. E.J. refused to leave until he showed Bo the video, but Bo said that if E.J. didn't leave right away, Bo would have to arrest him. E.J. left, and Sami thanked Bo. Bo explained that he needed to talk to Rafe about a case that Bo was working on. Bo told Rafe privately that he knew exactly what Sami had done.
Bo and Rafe went to the Brady Pub, and Bo said he had known Sami "since before she knew how to lie. She would just get defensive and say what she thought would get her out of this." Bo gave Rafe a heads up, saying he knew that whatever E.J. had on the video camera was "a ticking time bomb." If that evidence came out, "Sami's toast," Bo said. Rafe told Bo off-the-record that Sami had no defense and there was nothing that Rafe could do to protect her. Bo said Rafe was wrong about that.
Bo advised Rafe to marry Sami "like yesterday," because once married, Rafe and Sami wouldn't be compelled to testify against each other. Bo said that even if the D.A. kept Sami's confession private, the police were working on the case. Rafe decided that he and Sami would get married that night. Caroline overheard him and inquired about what he had said. Rafe told Caroline that no one could know about it, and the wedding needed to happen right away because he needed to protect Sami. Bo told Caroline about the accusations against Sami. Caroline gave Rafe her blessing.
11/23 When a guard led Hope to the visitors' area at the prison, she was surprised and thrilled to see Doug and Julie waiting for her. "Daddy! Julie! What are you doing here so late?" she exclaimed, concerned that something might have been wrong. Doug assured her that everything was fine; they had just wanted to see her the minute they got off of the cruise ship. Hope asked if Bo had asked them to tell her anything, and explained that his visits had been restricted. Doug and Julie were outraged, but Hope assured them that she was being treated well.
Julie mentioned Thanksgiving and Christmas, and then immediately regretted it. "Of course I know the holidays are coming," Hope pointed out. "I'm just trying not to think about it, what this year's going to bring." She told Doug and Julie that Bo was taking Ciara to visit her on Thanksgiving, and Julie promised that they would visit, as well. Hope acknowledged how lucky she was to have family who visited and cared about her, because a lot of women in the prison didn't.
The guard cleared her throat, and announced that she had to leave for a few minutes, and Doug and Julie would have to leave when she returned. "Okay, Mimi. Thanks for letting us know," Doug replied. After Mimi had gone, Hope asked how Doug knew the woman's name and why she was leaving them alone. Julie informed her that Doug had given Mimi a watch. "I figured maybe I ought to bribe the screws," Doug admitted with a wink, and then demonstrated why by giving his daughter a big hug.
In the infirmary, Warden Jane was surprised when Lee informed her that Hope wasn't there because she had visitors. "Fine, as long as it's not that husband of hers," Jane said with an exasperated sigh. "I'm gonna make sure those visits are kept to a minimum." Lee wondered why Jane didn't just have Hope transferred elsewhere, but Jane pointed out that doing so might arouse suspicion. "Unless..." Lee hinted, and Jane replied thoughtfully, "Unless she steps out of line and then I could do whatever I want to her."
When Mimi escorted Hope back to the infirmary, Lee was there alone. Hope thanked Mimi for the privacy. "You're lucky to have a dad like that," Mimi replied with a smile, and then left. Lee asked Hope how the visit had gone. Hope replied that her family was trying to figure out how to make Thanksgiving seem normal, and asked whether Lee's family ever visited. Shrugging, Lee replied that they lived too far away, but wondered why Hope wanted to know.
Hope apologized for being nosy, but noted that she didn't know much about Lee. Lee admitted pleasantly that she had forgotten there were people in the world who were curious about others, but then warned Hope, "There's a reason for the unwritten prison rule 'don't get too close to anyone': you could end up getting yourself hurt. I'd hate to see anything happen to you."
11/24 In the prison infirmary, Hope tended to a patient and learned that the woman, Pam, did not have any family. Concerned, Hope whispered to the woman to demand that her surgery be done at Salem University Hospital. "If you stay here, you're risking your life," Hope added. When Pam asked Hope why, Hope explained that the equipment in the prison's facility was outdated. Fearful of losing her hand, Pam agreed to do as Hope said. Pam marched up to Lee and insisted that her surgery be performed at Salem Hospital.
Suspicious, Lee asked Hope what she had said to Pam. Pam denied that she had spoken to Hope about the surgery.
As Warden Smith entered the clinic, she asked Lee what the fuss was about. Lee informed the warden that Pam was demanding to have her surgery done at the hospital. Shaking her head, Warden Smith denied Pam's request, noting that the hospital was dealing with an outbreak of the Loma virus and could not handle Pam's surgery. Concerned, Hope inquired about her friends and family who worked at the hospital.
Warden Smith informed Hope that the only infected employees were Melanie Kiriakis and Nathan Horton. Surprised, Hope gasped and then explained that Nathan was her cousin. Warden Smith made a couple of calls to check on Nathan and Melanie, and then she informed Hope that they were in quarantine, but that they were still alive. "We do what we can to help each other out around here. It's the only way to survive," Warden Smith noted.
After the warden had left, Hope reviewed Pam's files and spotted a notation that Pam had requested to be cremated in the event of her death. "Cheryl and April were cremated as well," Hope muttered to herself. "Oh, Pam, we've got to get you out of here," Hope said as she looked over at a sleeping Pam. Worried, Hope attempted to arouse Pam, but she was unconscious from the sedatives. Hope broke into the filing cabinet and grabbed the cell phone that was stashed inside. "You're not getting away with this, Lee," Hope said.
While Jennifer sat in the waiting room at the hospital, she received a call on her cell phone from Hope. Stunned to hear from her cousin so unexpectedly, Jennifer asked why Hope was calling. Hope started to tell Jennifer that she was afraid that something terrible was going to happen when Warden Smith entered the clinic and snatched the cell phone out of Hope's hand. Hope apologized to the warden and explained that she was calling home to check on her family. Warden Smith noted that Hope had broken the rules and that she had to revoke Hope's privileges. "Till further notice, I'm placing you in solitary confinement," the warden added.
11/26 When Bo arrived, he groaned when he saw Vivian. "What rock did you crawl out from under?" Bo joked to Vivian. Bo grabbed Brady's statement and read it aloud. "Maggie was walking around the Kiriakis mansion private graveyard in a daze just as Vivian happens to come back from her vacation," Bo said. When Bo announced that he had difficulty believing Brady's statement, Victor and Brady agreed that it was the truth. Bo asked Vivian if she had anything to add, but Vivian announced that she was there as a witness.
"You do realize that I will talk to Maggie about all this?" Bo said to Brady. Brady stared at Bo in silence. As Victor took Brady by the arm and led him out of the interrogation room, Bo turned to Vivian and asked her why she had returned to town. Bo warned Vivian that he would be keeping an eye on her. "I will look forward to it," Vivian said cheerfully.
Bo called Detective Hansen back into the interrogation room and asked him why Brady's statement was so short. Bo theorized aloud that since Brady had been in the room for quite awhile but had only written a short statement that Brady was covering something up. "Your father said that he wrote that first one when he was upset so it wasn't accurate," Detective Hansen said nervously. Bo asked to read the original statement.
Casting his eyes downward, Detective Hansen admitted that the original statement no longer existed. "Because my father told you that's the way I wanted it? Well he's wrong," Bo said angrily. "Consider what you have in your pocket, your severance. You're fired. Now get the hell out of my sight," Bo growled.
12/1 When Tina, a prison trustee, delivered a tray of food to Hope in solitary confinement, Hope barely looked up. Tina asked what Hope had done to end up in solitary confinement, Hope replied quietly, "I was simply trying to help someone." Tina cautioned her that around there, no good deed went unpunished. Hope asked if Tina could tell her what had happened to Pam, the patient who had been expected to be transferred to University Hospital for surgery.
Tina informed her that Pam was just about to have surgery there at the prison. "Oh, my God," Hope exclaimed. "She's gonna die!" She quickly covered, explaining that she thought Pam wasn't strong enough for surgery. Tina was skeptical. Hope then told Tina, "I need to talk to the warden right away. Tell her there's something she needs to know and tell her that Pam's life could depend on it."
When Bo met Jane, the prison warden, at the Brady Pub, she informed him that Hope had been placed in solitary confinement. Bo was peeved, but Jane insisted that she'd had no choice, because Hope had stolen a cell phone and the warden couldn't be seen as having favorites.
"I've conferred with her psychiatrist," Jane continued. "And we agree: We need to limit Hope's contact with her family, so she can focus on herself, on getting well." Bo expressed his displeasure, but Jane pointed out that she had informed him of what was going on as a courtesy. Bo countered that he would have found out regardless of whether or not she'd told him.
A frustrated Bo was trying to get the warden to give him the name of Hope's psychiatrist when Jennifer finally reached him. Bo heard the panic in Jennifer's voice, and assumed that Melanie had gotten worse, but Jennifer told him that Carly had contracted the virus.
When Jane returned to the prison, she visited Hope in solitary confinement. "Warden, I don't want to accuse anyone of anything," Hope began. "I know I don't have a complete case, but I've got to do this. I can't allow another innocent person to die." She explained that she didn't think the two previous deaths during surgery in the infirmary had been accidents. Hope added that neither of the women who had died had any family, both had been cremated, and both had died during routine surgeries.
"Appendicitis, a broken leg?" Hope noted. "When was the last time you heard of someone dying from a broken leg?" Trying to hide her displeasure, the warden feigned surprise. Hope urged her to transfer Pam to University Hospital for surgery. "I'm glad you came to me," Jane declared. "I assure you that I will take personal responsibility for Pam's safety." She reminded Hope that there would have to be an inquiry, but she would get Hope out of solitary confinement as soon as it was over.
After the warden left, Hope worried whether she had done the right thing, but she knew she had to trust someone. "I just pray to God the warden's one of the good guys." When an exasperated Jane got back to the infirmary, she told Lee, "You were right; she knows too much." Lee worriedly asked what they were going to do with Hope. Jane declared that they had had to get rid of Hope, but Lee pointed out, "Her husband's gonna be all over us!" Jane assured her that Bo wouldn't be a problem.
When Bo got to the hospital, Jennifer gave him the letter that Carly had written before injecting herself with the virus. In it, Carly apologized for not telling him goodbye, or discussing her decision with him, but she knew he would have done the same thing if it had been for Ciara. She continued that she had given up on happiness before her return to Salem, but the previous few months with him had been wonderful. Bo appeared at the door, and Carly gave him a weak smile and reassuring nod.
When Bo joined Jennifer in the waiting area, Ben updated them that Daniel was about to administer the drug to Melanie and Nathan. As he walked away, Ben said something else that showed his arrogance, and Jennifer became enraged. Bo stopped her from chasing Ben down the hallway, and reminded her that they had just gotten good news. Much calmer, Jennifer agreed, and hugged Bo gratefully.
Jennifer then told Bo that an upset Hope had called her recently, but they had been disconnected before Hope could explain why she'd called. Bo revealed that the warden had put Hope in solitary confinement for stealing a cell phone but he thought it was really because the warden didn't want Hope blabbing anything to Jennifer. Jennifer tried calling the phone number again, but had no luck.
12/6 At the hospital, Bo asked someone on the phone to find a way to reach Hope. Brady showed up and asked if he knew where Maggie was. Bo said Maggie had been sent home, and Bo asked him what had happened to Maggie. Brady referred Bo to the police report. Bo visited Carly, who was recovering from the virus. She noticed that he was distracted and realized it was because he was worried about Hope. Bo told Carly that he suspected that "someone died for no good reason," and Hope had been put in solitary confinement "for no good reason."
At the prison, Hope asked an inmate who served her food how Pam was doing. The inmate asked why Hope cared, because it wasn't like she knew Pam. Hope said it didn't matter why she cared. The inmate said that Hope had reason to worry, because Pam had died on the operating table. Hope asked how she knew, and the inmate said that Lee had told her about Pam's death. Hope had thought that the warden would have removed Lee from her post in the infirmary, but the inmate said that Lee and the warden were "tight."
Hope realized that the warden knew. "The warden knows what?" the inmate asked. Hope said it didn't concern her. The inmate was worried that people would find out she was gossiping with Hope. Hope assured her that wouldn't happen. Hope offered the inmate her food, and when the inmate tried to eat it, Hope attacked her from behind with a chokehold and then put her in Hope's bed and ran from her cell.
Lee asked the warden how the meeting with Bo had gone, and the warden filled her in. She also told Lee that Hope suspected that Lee had homicidal tendencies. Lee worried that Hope suspected that Lee and the warden were connected, but the warden assured Lee that Hope wouldn't know. Lee took an inmate named Charlene into the warden's office, and the warden said that they were transferring Charlene to another prison.
Charlene protested, saying that the cop they said she had a hit out on had started it first. The warden asked Charlene for the name of the cop who had put her away, and Charlene said it was Hope Brady. The warden said they needed to transfer the prisoner due to overcrowding. A corrections officer led Hope into the warden's office, explaining that Hope had tried to escape. Charlene saw Hope and attacked her. Charlene was taken away, and Lee asked Hope if she was all right.
"Maybe we should get you to the infirmary," Lee said, but Hope said, "No, not there." The warden asked what was wrong. "Afraid you'll die in there? That Lee arranged for your untimely demise?" the warden asked. The warden said she had looked into Hope's accusations and concluded that Hope had paranoid delusions, which was probably why Hope had tried to escape. Hope asked to speak to her lawyer, but the warden refused.
Hope said the warden might have cut Hope's visits with family, but she didn't have the right to refuse Hope's request for counsel. The warden said that after what Hope had done, she would be transferred to higher-security prison on the other side of the state. Hope accused the warden of just trying to get rid of her. Hope said that getting rid of her wouldn't stop her from finding out what was going on in the prison. The warden said that Hope's paranoia would fade once she was transferred, because she would have other issues to deal with.
The warden ordered Hope to pack her things, because she was being transferred in the morning. Hope asked if she could contact her family, and the warden said her family would be notified. The warden called for an escort to prevent any more "escape issues." Hope asked the warden to reconsider, but the warden said Hope had gotten her chance and blown it. The warden wished Hope good luck.
After Hope left, Lee told the warden they might want to rethink transferring Hope in the same van with Charlene, because Charlene was "out for blood." The warden said that Hope was out for their blood. Lee still had doubts. She said that Hope knew people had died, but she didn't know what they were doing in the infirmary and why. The warden thought it was only a matter of time before Hope figured it out.
The corrections officer put Hope back in her cell and warned her not to do anything stupid again. Hope wondered to herself what Lee and the warden planned to do to her if they were behind the deaths of three prisoners.
Jennifer asked Bo how Hope was doing, and Bo said he was calling in favors.
Ben called the warden from the hospital, and the warden asked how she could help him. He said he needed a heart for transplant sooner than expected. The warden said that wouldn't be a problem, because they'd had a recent death and should have a heart for him very soon if nothing went wrong. Ben asked what she meant by "if nothing goes wrong." The warden said they were just having a few problems, and Ben would get what he needed by the next day.
After the warden hung up, Lee worried that their plan would backfire. She asked how the warden could be so sure that Charlene would be able to beat Hope. The warden said that Charlene weighed over 300 pounds, and also Hope would be handcuffed, but Charlene wouldn't.
Bo entered Carly’s hospital room while Jennifer was there, and Jennifer asked how Hope was doing. Bo said there had to be a way to get to Hope. He said he wouldn't hear from the governor's office until the next day. Jennifer said Hope would be okay until the next day, but Bo wasn't so certain.
Carly told Bo to go home and rest, because he had a big day ahead of him. "Says the woman in bed," Bo said. She said she knew what it was like to have someone a person cared about in trouble and what that person would go through to help them.
"Like you did for your daughter," Bo said.
"And what you'll do for Hope," Carly said.
12/9 At the Brady Pub, Bo told Carly that he had tried everyone he knew with political influence, but no one had returned his call. Then the governor called him, and he explained Hope's situation.
The warden told Hope that Charlene would be transferred with her. Hope thought it was a joke, because Charlene had wanted to kill her. After the warden left, Hope tried to escape again, and she tried to warn the corrections officer that she was being set up. The warden called Bo and asked to see him. Carly assumed that the governor had called the warden. The warden told Lee that she was calling off Hope's transfer, because the governor had called to warn her that if anything happened to Hope, their heads would roll.
The warden called Dr. Ben. Ben thanked her for donating the heart that he had transplanted into his patient. The warden said she was in it for the money, and she said that she wouldn't be able to give Ben the organs on his wish list, until she dealt with the situation. Ben asked how long, and she said "soon hopefully."
Bo arrived at the warden's office, and she said that she had to deal with Hope. The warden said that Hope had attacked another prisoner the same way that she had attacked the men the previous summer. Bo defended Hope and said she had done those things because of a bad reaction to the medication she had been taking. The warden said that Hope wasn't on any medication in prison.
Bo said that the last time he had seen Hope, she was fine, and he wasn't "buying the load of bull" that the warden was selling. The warden said that Hope had become paranoid and done something violent. Bo asked to speak to Hope, but the warden said that wasn't possible, because the prisoner area was in lockdown. The warden gave Bo a copy of Hope's psychiatric report. Bo asked the warden to arrange a visit for him with Hope, and threatened to call the governor again.
Lee told Hope that her transfer had been called off. Lee said that she'd heard Hope had been trying to get her into trouble. Hope said that Lee practically ran the prison. Lee asked why she was killing the inmates for the infirmary and what was in it for her. Hope asked what she had gained from killing the people. Lee said she had no idea about it, since she had never done anything like that. Lee added that there were a few prisoners who were worth more dead than alive. The warden visited with Hope and ordered her to do a job for the warden.
12/10 At the prison, Warden Jane Smith ordered Hope to write a letter to Bo. "You're gonna tell him you had a relapse," Jane dictated. "You're gonna tell him that you're fine, that you're getting treatment, that you're in good hands." When Hope refused, Jane angrily pointed out that Hope's only way out was to tell Bo not to visit.
Jane ordered, "Convince him that your mental health is at stake or else." Hope finished the threat, "I'll disappear like the other prisoners?" Hope then reminded the warden that unlike the other prisoners, she had family who cared about her plus Bo, who would never stop investigating if she disappeared. "And you'll be in more trouble than you are now," Hope declared. A furious Jane reiterated her order for Hope to write the letter to Bo. Hope sat at he table reluctantly, and began to write while Jane dictated.
Once they were finished, Jane reviewed what Hope had written, to make sure Hope hadn't included anything to tip Bo off. She decided that Hope had done all right, and planned to have the letter hand-delivered to Bo. Jane hinted that despite having followed her orders, Hope was still a problem. Hope was alarmed, especially when the departing Jane declared, "I hate what I'm going to have to do now."
After the warden had gone, Hope prayed for Bo to read every word of her letter very carefully. "You've got to figure it out, Bo," she whispered, clutching Ciara's picture to her chest.
At the Brady Pub, Bo discussed his concerns about Hope's psychiatric evaluation with Carly. He pointed out that when Hope had behaved violently before, it had been while under the influence of medication; he knew she would never have attacked another prisoner, as the warden had claimed. Carly offered to cancel their visit to Daniel and Chloe's, since she knew Bo would be anxious until he heard from Hope. Bo declined, because he knew how much Carly wanted to see the baby.
When Bo and Carly arrived, Chloe offered to let Carly hold Parker, and Carly excitedly accepted. As Carly held the infant, she offered to babysit any time Chloe and Daniel wanted. Bo noted that Daniel and Chloe were very lucky with how everything had worked out, and Chloe defensively asked what he meant. Bo explained that Parker was something of a miracle, since Chloe had thought she couldn't get pregnant.
After Bo got a phone call, he announced that he had to go to the police station, because a letter had just been delivered for him from Hope. Daniel said that he wanted to pick up some takeout, so he left with Bo.
Chloe asked Carly what was going on. Carly replied, "Hope is in some kind of trouble, and it's just driving Bo crazy that he can't fix it." Chloe guessed that it had to be hard for Carly to watch what Bo was going through. Carly admitted, "It's just that everything happened really fast with us, and I want to do what's right for him. And lately, with everything that's been going on with Hope, it's just been really hard not to have his attention and I know that's being selfish." Chloe reassured Carly that she had a valid point.
At the station, Bo perused Hope's letter, in which she explained that she might never get out of solitary confinement after having attacked a trustee. "'Bo, not a minute goes by that I don't think about our precious Ciara,'" he read aloud, and then asked suddenly, "What the hell is that?"
12/13 Abe went to the police station to confront Bo about what was going on between Sami and E.J. Abe reminded Bo of his oath and said he needed to find whoever had shot E.J. Abe threatened to have Bo fired if he didn't follow up on the case. Bo called Sami to the police station. Abe chewed Bo out for hiring Rafe, Sami's husband, for the police department when Sami was the prime suspect in an attempted murder investigation. Bo asked if Abe's stance was about doing the right thing or about Abe's re-election. Abe said it was about protecting the police department. He said that Bo and Roman needed to do the right, or Abe would fire both of them. Sami overheard them talking.
Sami reminded Abe how Lexie had stolen Bo's child and got away with it, but Abe hadn't resigned from the police department then. Sami also reminded him how Lexie had cheated on Abe with Sami's fiancé and Abe's son, Brandon. She told Abe to get his own house in order.
Bo ordered Sami to stop, and he said that Abe needed her assurance that no one would accuse Rafe of being an accessory to attempted murder. Sami assured him that no one would. Bo said he thought that Rafe should stay on the force. Abe hoped that the department wouldn't regret that. Bo walked Abe out.
Rafe went to the police department to begin his job, and Bo wondered where Sami had gone.
12/16 Hope asked the warden if the prison transfer was back on, and she worried that the warden wanted to get rid of her permanently. Hope said the women who had died had no one to ask about them, and the warden said Hope was the same way. Hope said the women who'd died hadn't had families, so it wasn't just like her. The warden thought that Bo had understood that Hope was a danger to herself and others. Hope said that Bo wouldn't believe the warden. The warden said that the last time she had spoken to him, Bo had seemed concerned about Hope, but the warden's motto was "out of sight, out of mind."
Hope told the warden that Bo wouldn't forget about the mother of his children, and she warned the warden that if anyone else mysteriously disappeared from the prison, Bo would have the warden locked up. The warden claimed that Hope sounded like she had taken one of the "mysterious blue pills" she had taken before her arrest. The warden encouraged Hope to eat her lunch, and Hope wondered if the warden was planning on poisoning her.
Hope looked at the picture of Ciara on her wall. The prison guard asked why she didn't eat, and Hope said she wasn't hungry. The guard said that the warden didn't want any personal items in the cells. Hope said she didn't have anything, and the guard insisted she did. The guard ripped the picture of Ciara off the wall and destroyed it. Hope prayed about how scared she was, saying she had nothing left but God. She asked for a Christmas miracle. She asked God to help Bo understand her message, because he was her only hope.
Bo told Jennifer about Hope's letter, and Jennifer insisted that they find a way to help Hope. Jennifer said that Hope had seemed fine when she visited Hope in jail. Bo pointed out that Hope had spelled Ciara with two "R's." Jennifer thought that Bo assumed that Hope was really losing it while in jail. Bo said that Hope wasn't losing it and hadn't forgotten how to spell Ciara's name. Bo explained Hope's theory to Jennifer.
Bo said he had no plan yet, because he had some things to work out first. Jennifer assumed that Bo was dragging his feet because of Carly, but Bo said that the reason he didn't have a plan had nothing to do with Carly, it was because he hadn't spoken to Hope. Jennifer said if there were a way to get Hope out, she would find it. Bo said if he devised a plan, he would let her know. As Jennifer was leaving the police station, she said, "Sorry, Bo. I can't sit and do nothing." Bo looked at Ciara's present, then a picture of Ciara and Hope. He vowed that he would find Hope and help her.
12/17 At the police station, Bo told Officer Morgan, "So, this situation I'm dealing with is rather urgent, and I gotta see it through to its resolution." When Morgan asked how long he would be gone, Bo replied that it would be "for a while," and asked her to fill in the other officers. Just then, Ciara ran in, followed by Julie, who immediately wanted to know where Bo was going. Bo asked Officer Morgan to watch Ciara for a few minutes while he talked with Julie.
After Morgan and Ciara had gone, Bo informed Julie that an investigation he was working had become critical, and he thought it was a good time to try to resolve it, since Ciara was already staying with Doug and Julie. Julie assured him that she and Doug would be delighted to let Ciara keep staying with them. Bo hoped that the investigation would only take him a day, but it could be longer.
When Bo and Ciara were alone in his office, she spotted a small gift with her name on the card on his desk. "You know what? Even though it's not Christmas, I think it'd be okay for you to open that gift," Bo told his daughter. Ciara wanted to wait to open presents with her mommy. Bo patiently explained Hope was still sick, so she wouldn't be home at Christmas and they couldn't visit her for a little while.
Bo told his daughter that the present was from her mommy, who wanted Ciara to open it before Christmas, "Because she knows that it'll make Christmas a lot better for you." Ciara lifted out a silver cross on a chain, and exclaimed excitedly, "It's Mommy's necklace!" She threw her arms around her dad to thank him, and then he helped her put it on. Bo explained, "Mommy wanted you to have this, so that when you miss her, you can look at it and remember how much she loves you, and how she's always thinking about you."
Bo then told Ciara that he had to go away for a few days, but if she got lonely, all she had to do was hold the necklace close to her heart. Ciara was momentarily upset, but Bo calmed her by reminding her how much fun she had staying with Grandpa Doug and Grandma Julie. Ciara took one of the little pink barrettes out of her hair, and handed it to Bo. "Take this Daddy, for when you miss me," she said. Bo fought back tears as he gave his "Little One" a grateful hug.
Carly arrived at the station after Ciara and Julie had gone. "What'd you want to talk to me about?" Carly asked. When she saw the worried expression on Bo's face, she asked what was wrong.
12/20 Bo told Carly that he was going out of town for a while because of a case he was working on, but Carly knew that Bo would never leave Ciara during Christmas unless it had something to do with Hope. Carly asked what was really going on, but Bo wouldn't tell her. Carly asked if Ciara knew that Bo was leaving, and he said he'd told her. Ciara would be staying with Doug and Julie. Carly acknowledges that will do whatever he needed to do to save Hope and he agrees that he would do anything.
Carly told him that she would always love him. Bo apologized, sad that he is hurting her. Carly told him that when she showed up in town, she'd thought her life was over but he had protected her. Carly told Bo not to look back once he left through that door and not to have any regrets.
Bo is reluctant to hurt her, but no real grief on his part to say a final goodbye to Carly knowing they are talking about more than just him leaving town, but leaving her to return to Hope (though more hinted at that an actually stated). After Bo left, Carly sobbed. (Neither address that they have both realised how deeply he loves Hope and what he feels for Carly just doesn’t compare. But so obvious that he has realised and has to take care of Hope and his whole existence is about Hope and reuniting his family).
The warden told Hope that Bo had received the letter that Hope had written and believed that Hope had gone crazy again. The warden taunted Hope with the idea that Carly had helped Bo to believe Hope was crazy. The warden said that Hope had been trouble since she'd arrived in prison. Hope was glad. The warden said that nosy girls like Hope needed to be punished. Hope asked what the warden was going to do to her, but the warden wouldn't say. Lee entered Hope's cell with a box of oranges.
Lee and the warden joked about what would have happened if Hope had tried to escape again. Hope called them insane. "And honey, if anybody's qualified to make that call, it's a wing nut like you," said Lee, referring to Hope's mental state. Hope called Lee and the warden monsters, and the warden left Lee alone with Hope. Lee told Hope to put oranges in the Christmas stockings. She told Hope that cops would beat suspects with a towel filled with oranges, so it would injure but wouldn't show bruises.
Hope said that no cops that she knew had ever beaten anyone with a towel full of oranges. Lee made jokes about Hope landing in the infirmary, and Hope threw the box of oranges at Lee. The guard restrained Hope and handcuffed her to the bed. Lee grabbed the stocking full of oranges and beat Hope with it.
12/21 Hope struggled to sleep in her isolated prison cell, but the pain from her injuries kept her awake. When a prison guard entered Hope's cell, bearing food, Hope slowly opened her eyes and was shocked to find that the prison guard was Bo. Bo squatted next to Hope's cot and assured her that he was there and she was going to be okay, everything was going to be okay.
Hope tells him she was scared that he wouldn’t understand her letter. He shares that the day she doesn’t know how to spell Ciara’s name, they are all in trouble. When Bo started to help Hope up, she cried out in pain. "What have they done to you?" Bo asked.
Hope told Bo that Lee had injured her as a warning. "She's the one behind it all," Hope said quietly. With effort, Bo helped Hope to sit up. Grimacing with pain, Hope told Bo all that she had learned about the murdered prisoners. Bo assured Hope that he believed her story but that in the interest of her safety, they needed to break out of prison. Overwhelmed with pain, Hope was too weak to stand up. Worried about her husband, Hope urged Bo to think about Ciara and abandon his plan to help her escape.
Bo stubbornly refused to leave Hope to die in prison, and he convinced her to go with him by saying he was protecting Ciara. As Hope struggled to her feet, Lee walked past the cell and notice Bo holding Hope upright. Bo acted as if Hope was hanging on to him against his will. Bo pushed Hope onto the cot and told Lee that he was dropping off dinner to the prisoner. Lee was suspicious and noted that she was going to talk to the head guard. As Lee started to walk away, Bo grabbed her and stopped her from fetching reinforcements.
"You just made a really big mistake," Lee growled. Fighting pain, Hope grabbed her tray of food and hit Lee over the head, knocking her to the ground. "No. You did," Hope grunted. With a faint smile, Hope added, "I enjoyed that. I really did." Bo put Lee in Hope's cot to fool the next patrol, then he helped Hope out of the cell and down the hallway.
12/22 Bo helped a badly injured Hope escape from the prison. She could barely walk, so she urged him to go on without her. Refusing, Bo picked Hope up to carry her out, and she fell unconscious in his arms.
Meanwhile, Warden Jane Smith was giving a tour of the prison to a disguised Jennifer, using the alias "Ms. Spencer." As they reached the infirmary, Jennifer divulged that she had experience in both journalism and health care. Jane offered Jennifer a job as an administrative assistant, since Jennifer knew how to deal with the press. Jennifer agreed, but as they were leaving for the warden's office, alarms began to sound. Rattled, Jane told Jennifer to stay in the infirmary: they were in lockdown because of a security breach. The warden hurried out.
Jane arrived at Hope's cell just as Lee awakened in Hope's bunk. A sore Lee explained that Hope had attacked her with a tray while Lee was talking to a new guard, who Lee realized was likely Hope's husband. Jane and Lee continued discussing what had happened as they returned to the infirmary. Jane introduced Jennifer to Lee, who wasn't exactly thrilled to meet the new hire. Jane asked Jennifer to write a press release to give to the media right away, and gave Jennifer a picture of Hope to include with the story. "This prisoner is a violent offender," Jane stressed. "She should be considered armed and dangerous."
After Jennifer left for the warden's office, Jane asked Lee to describe the new guard. "Dark hair; beard; good-looking, cheekbones like k.d. lang," Lee said. Jane surprised Lee by grinning and declaring, "That's him. Good. In a way, having the commissioner bust Hope out of here was the best thing that could have happened." Suddenly, Jennifer rushed back in, and breathlessly informed Jane that the phones and computers in the warden's office were down. Jane and Lee ran out, and Jennifer smiled to herself. "I hope I just bought you some time, Bo," Jennifer said under her breath.
Bo carried an unconscious Hope into a rustic, one room cabin, and placed her gently on the bed. When Hope awakened later, Bo was heating up some broth on a hot plate. He helped her sit up, and held a mug of the warm liquid to her lips. Bo explained that after she had passed out, he had taken her to an old fishing cabin to which his dad had taken him years before, where they would be safe as no one would ever connect this place to Bo or to their family.
Hope asks if he really just broke her out of prison! Hope couldn't believe that Bo had carried her as far as he had. She knows that he risked his life for her and she is so sorry he had to do that. He looks at her intently as he declares, “I would carry you to the ends of the earth. Don’t you know that?” She asks him if he believes her about what is going on at the infirmary?
He informs her that he has never doubted her instincts as a cop. Bo shared that getting her out of prison was only the first part of his plan. Hope tells him that the warden has proof that Hope is a crazy lady. Bo scoffs that her time in the driver’s seat is about over. He informs her that they have successfully completed Stage One in sending the warden to prison, and that was getting Hope out of prison. Hope asks him what Stage Two is? He responds that he was hoping she wouldn’t ask him that.
Hope wanted to know where Ciara was, since Bo was with Hope. Bo reassured her that Ciara was with Doug and Julie and they are taking very good care of her.. She reminds him that it is almost Christmas. He jokes that who is a better Santa than Doug? Hope questions if they know where he is and what he is doing? Hope asserted that the warden would soon have search parties looking for them and she may have even called the Feds by now.
She fretted, "That means both of Ciara's parents are in mortal danger. You can't do this." She asks him to leave her and he firmly refuses. She reminds him that their baby needs him. He counters that their baby needs both of her parents. Despite her pleas, Bo refused to leave Hope until they got the charges against her dropped and then both of them would go home to their little girl. Bo pulled on his hat, gloves, and coat to go outside and have a look around. Hope cautioned him to be careful, but as soon as he was out the door, she picked up his cell phone.
When Lee and Jane returned to the infirmary, Jane apologized to Jennifer for the "baptism by fire," but asserted that it had never happened before on her watch. A guard arrived with surveillance footage of "the phony guard," and showed it to the warden. The footage confirmed Jane's suspicions that it had been Police Commissioner Bo Brady, who had broken his wife out of prison. Jane ordered the guard, "Add Bo Brady's name to the APB, and alert the manhunt that he's also a suspect, armed and dangerous." Jane vowed that both Bo's career and his life were over.
12/23 Bo caught Hope trying to use his cell phone and chastised her. She said she wasn't planning to call the station to turn herself in, even though she felt she should do that. Hope tried to convince Bo to save himself, but Bo said they were in it together. He reminded her that they needed to lay low until they could prove what was going on in the prison. He asked why she had been trying to use his phone, and she said she was trying to call Ciara to hear her voice.
Hope promised it wouldn't happen again. Bo understood, he just wanted her to make sure she understood what they were up against. She assures him she does. Hope asked whether Bo understood what he had done to his life by helping her. Hope apologized to Bo for the mistakes she had made in their marriage. Bo said they both had made mistakes, and they would work that out some other time. He wanted them to focus on getting out of the situation they were in. Hope said that what kept her going in prison was the knowledge that the people that Bo needed and loved were beside him. She said that by helping her, he would lose those people.
Bo said that they needed to focus on exposing what was going on in the prison and letting people know that he had needed to get Hope out of jail before the warden killed her like the other women. Bo said they needed to focus on getting the job done so that she could get home to Ciara, and he asked if Hope could trust him and believe in him. She said she could. Bo predicted that the warden would go straight to the state police. He said they shouldn't contact Roman and put him in any situation where he could be compromised. While they were talking, Hope heard someone outside.
Jane walked into Roman’s office and questioned whether he was helping Bo and Hope. Roman said that not only was he not helping Bo and Hope, he had put an APB out on them. Rafe tried to calm the warden and Roman, saying there must have been a mistake. Jane insulted Rafe, calling him either stupid or dumb. Roman told her to shut up or he would personally kick her butt out the door. Roman introduced Jane to Rafe, and she showed them security footage of Bo breaking Hope out of jail.
Jane said that Bo had done that before and had broken Roman out of prison once. Roman said that was a 100 years ago. Jane said that she had already called the Governor, and he had ordered the state police to handle the manhunt. Jane vowed she would get Hope back one way or another. Jane explained that the state police didn't want Roman to be involved in the case, because they didn't want him passing messages to Bo.
After Jane left, Roman asked Rafe to take over as the acting police commander, because the state police wouldn't keep them in the loop if Roman was in charge. Rafe didn't think that the state police would cooperate with him, either, because he was married to Sami. Roman doesn’t believe they are going to check marriage certificates and he only had a very professional relationship with Bo. Roman said first they needed to talk to Carly.
Rafe accepted Roman's job offer, but he said that Sami would be Rafe's first priority. Roman said she was his first priority, too, but he needed to help Bo. Roman had a feeling that they needed to find Bo and Hope before anyone else did, judging by the way the warden was acting.
At the prison, Lee worried that Hope could accuse Jane and Lee of killing prisoners. Jane said no one would believe Hope, because she had gone on record for hallucinating and acting paranoid. Lee worried that people would check into Hope's allegations. Jane said the best thing would be for Hope not to talk again ever. Jane was happy that the state police were in charge, and Jane had friends on the force. Jane was confident that if one of the state police officers found Bo and Hope, they would be killed.
Daniel and Carly listened as a bulletin aired over the radio about how Bo had broken Hope out of prison. Daniel noticed that Carly wasn't surprised to hear the news. Carly said she knew that Bo had made a commitment to Hope, because he needed to help her. She said she had turned off her phone and gone to the hospital. Daniel said that Bo was smart and knew exactly how to get himself out of trouble. He said that once Bo fixed the situation, Bo would return home to Carly.
Carly didn't believe that Bo would return to her, even though she loved him and believed she always would. She said she realized that what she and Bo had might not have been right. Daniel asked if Carly felt that way because Bo hadn't told her what he had been planning to do, and she said that was part of it, Bo kept secrets. She said she had kept secrets from Bo too.
12/24 At Alice's, Jennifer gazed lovingly at the family photos on the mantel. She addressed her late grandmother's chair as if Alice were sitting in it, and sadly said that her kids were grounded at Heathrow Airport, and Jack wasn't there, either. "It certainly is not going to be a normal Horton Christmas," Jennifer concluded.
"Since when is a Horton Christmas normal?" boomed Julie's voice from behind Jennifer, who turned to see a grinning Doug and Julie arriving with Ciara.
Julie and Jennifer began hanging ornaments on the Christmas tree. When Julie heard that Jennifer's kids weren't going to be there, she suggested that they all visit via video conference. Jennifer apologized for being a "downer," but reminded Julie of how they had lost Mickey and Gram that year. Julie remembered how Gram had insisted on having Christmas at Bo and Hope's the year before, in an effort to reunite Hope and Bo. Jennifer points out hopefully that they are together now.
Julie wondered what would happen, since Bo and Hope were on the run together. "Who knows, maybe Bo and Hope will surprise us," Julie hoped. Just then, Doug and Ciara entered with another box of ornaments, and Ciara declared, "They're going to surprise us by coming home for Christmas!" The grownups tried to caution Ciara that her parents probably wouldn't make it home in time for Christmas, but she could hang her family's ornaments on the tree.
Jennifer wanted to know what Ciara had asked Santa for. "I didn't want any presents this year," Ciara replied. "I just want my mommy and daddy to come home." Doug turned on the television to distract the tot, and news of Bo and Hope's prison break immediately blared from the speakers. "Santa heard my wish!" Ciara exclaimed, and then declared that Santa could do anything just like her daddy. Julie whispers to Jennifer that Santa is going to need some help with this one.
When an optimistic Ciara ran into the kitchen for a cookie, Jennifer wondered what they could do to dissuade the child from believing that her parents would be home for Christmas. Doug reminded Julie and Jennifer, "A certain wise woman once said, 'Never underestimate the magic of Christmas.'" They all looked hopefully to Alice's picture.
Carly and Rafe went to the pier to talk. In response to Rafe's questions, Carly admitted that she'd known Bo had been planning something, but he had kept the details from her to protect her. She explained that Hope had told Bo that women were dying in the prison for no good reason, and when Hope had tried to report it, the warden had put her in solitary confinement.
Carly added that Hope had deliberately misspelled Ciara's name in a letter to Bo, and that had spurred him to take action. Rafe acknowledged that the situation had to be hard on Carly, but he guessed that Bo had a plan to get back home. "He's not coming home to me," Carly asserted. She explained that Bo would do anything for Hope, because she had been Bo's first real love.
At the fishing shack, Hope heard a noise outside, and worried that someone had followed Bo there. After making Hope promise to stay put, Bo went outside to investigate. Pistol drawn, he crept outside, and soon took aim in the direction of the sounds he heard. Hope heard a crash outside, and grabbed a fireplace poker to defend herself and nearly bashed Bo over the head with it when he returned.
Bo somewhat sheepishly explained that he'd slipped on some ice. He wasn't sure what had made the noise, but guessed it might have been a bear, which his fall had then likely scared away. Hope was just relieved that Bo was all right. Noting that Hope was obviously cold, Bo suggested that she look for some additional clothes in the next room. While she was gone, he found a shortwave radio, and began cranking it to charge it up. Hope returned wearing a huge football jersey, and Bo got a cute grin on his face as he looked at her. She looked at him puzzled and then looked down at the jersey and realised he was remembering the time, many years earlier, when they had kissed on the field at the Orange Bowl (flashback!)!
Hope somberly pointed out that even if they could prove that the warden was killing inmates, Hope would still have to return to prison. Bo urged her not to worry about what might happen. He showed her the radio, which he said could pick up the police band and alert them to any activity in the area. As he helped Hope get into bed, Bo promised to keep watch while she rested and recovered. After she fell asleep, he promised her softly, "I'm gonna get you home so you can see your daughter, Fancy Face."
At the prison infirmary, Warden Jane Smith informed Lee that the state police were closing in on Bo and Hope. She added that they would have to put their "little side business" on hold for a while. Lee was worried about what would happen if Hope were caught and started talking. Jane declared that once Hope was behind bars again, they would stage her suicide.
Rafe called the warden to ask for her help with the manhunt. He explained that while he knew the state police were handling the search, the Salem Police Department was conducting its own internal investigation. "I'll be glad to help, but not until after the holidays. Give me a call in a couple of weeks. Happy New Year," Jane replied cheerfully before hanging up on Rafe. "Carly was right, that woman is hiding something," Rafe concluded.
12/27 The Hortons celebrated Christmas at Alice's house. Maggie asked Ciara whether she was excited about Santa, but Ciara said she didn't believe in Santa. Julie asked why Ciara didn't believe in Santa, and she said it was because Ciara's parents weren't going to be home for Christmas, and if there were a Santa, they would be. Ciara asked if Bo and Hope were ever returning home. Jennifer assured her that they would, and they just had to keep hoping and praying.
Julie noticed the necklace that Ciara was wearing, and Ciara said it was Hope's. Julie said that it was a reminder that Hope was always thinking of her. Lexie, Abe, and Theo arrived, and Theo gave Ciara a present, a stuffed dog, just like Theo's dog Charlie.
Abe told Doug that the mayor's office was being kept completely out of the loop of Bo and Hope's case. Julie asked if Abe could keep Bo and Hope safe, and Abe said it was out of his hands. Abe promised to let the family know if he heard anything. Julie said that Abe's hands might be tied, but hers weren't. She called Victor to ask him to keep her informed of his efforts to find Bo and Hope. Victor agreed, and asked her to wish Maggie a merry Christmas. Julie delivered the message, but Maggie didn't want to talk to him. The Hortons hung the ornaments on the tree.
12/28 Roman met up with Rafe down on the pier to talk about Bo and Hope. After listening to Rafe discuss his strategy, Roman smiled. When Rafe asked Roman what he was thinking, Roman chuckled. "Sami finally married someone I not only like, but is strong enough to handle her," Roman said.
Note: No Bo or Hope scenes on 12/19 - 1/3/11. The next edit picks up with Jan 4th, 2011.
