Hope's Jungle Adventure #32 September 25 - November 4, 1997: 6 hour original edit

DVD #32A 9/25 She gets John to agree to cover for her while she looks for it. Armed with a pistol, a flashlight, and the sexiest safari suit you ever saw, Hope slips into the lab and starts exploring. She has flashbacks to Maison Blanche and a time when Stefano was telling Dr. Rolf they had to move her before she figured out what was going on.

She finally finds the locked door to the room with the mysterious draped table, and just as she is trying to pick the lock, the lights come on and she spins around, pistol in hand. Fortunately, it's only John, who tells her that the natives are in revolt and have killed a guard, and Stefano knows she's not in her room where she's supposed to be. Hope says she doesn't care, she's sure the secret is in the locked room.

John takes out his trusty Swiss Army knife and gets the door open - just as Stefano and armed guards bust into the room. Stefano tells them it's bad form to spy on one's hosts and shoos them out. Hope looks back and vows to figure out what secret Stefano is hiding. Stefano tells them they're ready to take off and holds up the precious vial filled with Roman's cure. He tells a lab assistant to package it carefully for the trip.

Naturally, the lab assistant promptly drops the vial, spilling all the fluid. Stefano goes berserk and tries to hit the assistant, but John stops him and tells him to fill another vial so they can take off. Stefano roars that that was the only one they had. John tells them they better brew up another batch fast. Stefano looks at Hope, realizing that now she has more time to snoop, and bites his knuckles.

Billie apologizes to Bo for taking up so much of his time. She doesn’t want to cause problems for him when he returns to Salem. He knows that Shawn D will understand, and after all Hope is off with Franco so there is no one to be hurt by their “honeymoon” trip.

9/26 In the jungle, at the DiMera compound, Hope has a nightmare that she remembers what happened at Maison Blanche and Stefano and Dr. Rolf are injecting her to make her forget. She wakes up screaming and John is there to hold her. They start speculating again about what could be hidden under the tarp on the table in the lab. John promises to help her find out.

They go down to the lab together to discover Stefano in a fury because the one vital ingredient to the cure is gone. It is an extract from a very rare orchid and they have no way to get it unless someone goes to the waterfall in the jungle 10 miles away. Since the natives are resisting the encroachment of civilization and have already killed one guard, Stefano says it's impossible to get to the orchid. Kristen is furious because it means that her plan to save Roman's life and get Marlena out of the way won't work. Stefano and Kristen and Dr. Rolf lock up the lab. Kristen tries to stay behind to figure out what's on the table, but Dr. Rolf shoos her out and locks up.

John and Hope immediately break in and lift the tarp on the table, only to find a dead guard. Hope is positive that something else had been on the table the day before. She and John resolve to figure out how to get the flower and to figure out Stefano's secret together. John finally accepts her as a partner, and Hope is happy to be taken seriously. They go upstairs and see Stefano offering his guards $20,000 to go out and get the flower. They all refuse, saying it's not worth their lives. John says that he will go get the flower. Kristen and Hope protest, saying it's too dangerous, but John looks determined.

9/29 In the jungle, Stefano offers any man who will retrieve the flowers 20,000 dollars. Nobody will take Stefano's offer so John says he will get the flowers. Kristen and Hope tell John no way, he will be killed the minute he leaves the compound. John argues with Kristen and Hope but John is positive he can get the cure.

Hope tells John if he is going to do this then she's going with him. John tells Hope no way and Stefano tells John that he will have equipment gathered for him. John begins to study a map and Hope pulls Kristen aside. Hope tells Kristen that she has no right to tell John what to do, only Marlena has that right. Hope tells her all they can do is be strong and supportive.

Suddenly Stefano gets a phone call from someone and he asks them to get a hold of Travis for him. Kristen tries to convince Stefano to talk John out of going into the jungle but Stefano tells her if John doesn't do this then Roman will die. Kristen offers to go with John but Stefano tells her she is not trained for this, but Hope is. John tells Stefano this is a one man operation, end of discussion.

As John begins to pack, Stefano swipes his compass. John tells Hope to use this time to find out what Stefano is hiding form her. Before leaving John asks Hope to give Doc his love, just in case he doesn't come back. As John goes into the jungle Stefano makes sure to drop John's compass where Hope will find it.

Kristen is in tears but Stefano tells her everything is going to be all right. Suddenly Hope finds John's compass on the ground and Hope and Kristen argue over who will take the compass to him. Stefano tells Kristen that Hope is trained for this, she should go. Hope notices that the natives are rustling in the bushes. to create a diversion she throws a smoke bomb outside the compound and runs for it.

Decked in camouflage, John is venturing into the jungle when a native comes up from behind him. The native shoots a blow dart at John, who manages to duck just in time!

9/30 In the jungle, Kristen is putting a backpack on and is about to sneak out when Stefano stops her. He tells her that she can't go. She moans and groans and says that if she had taken the compass to John he would realized how much she loved him because she was risking her life for him (she is saying this to Stefano back and he is making faces - ROTF). He tells her that John has to return as it is part of his plan.

Kristen comments that he doesn't care if Hope returns though because she knows a secret about him. He denies she knows anything about him but doesn't say that he wants her to return. Kristen is being a pain and you can tell Stefano is annoyed with her. He places a guard at the door to prevent anyone from leaving without his approval. He says that Roman will help him in Salem and makes the call to Abe. Kristen hears his demands and can't believe that he will get away with his demands.

John runs off through the jungle and Hope is close behind when she sees a body in the bushes. She thinks it is John but finds it is the lab tech that dropped the vial. Gosh she says that's how Stefano punishes his people. Then she is grabbed from behind. Yep it's John telling her it is him and not to scream. He had a few minutes earlier discovered his compass missing.

She explains that Stefano removed it and he tells her she is going back. Naturally she argues with him and tells him she is staying. After disagreeing some more he gives in and calls her partner as he smears mud on her face. They talk some strategy and he says that when they make it to a small lake they will rest there. Hope leaves ahead of John when he tells her to FREEZE. She says what is wrong but her tells her it is best she not know. Then we see him pull out a machete and a tarantula on Hope's back.

10/1 In Bo and Billie's room, Bo is dreaming of Hope calling out to him, but she keeps vanishing when he gets near her. Bo wakes up suddenly and decides to call Alice. Bo asks about Shawn D. Bo then asks if Hope is there but Alice no, she's still vacationing with Franco but reports she hasn’t talked to Hope who hasn’t called. Bo and Alice talk about running into Carrie and Austin and then they talk about li'l ole Sami. Alice hopes Sami finds happiness but Bo could care less about Sami after what she's done. Bo asks Alice to tell Shawn D he called and loves him and they say goodbye.

Bo looks out the window and imagines Hope walking down the street. He runs up to her and takes her in his arms as she begs him to tell her that they will never be apart again. He tells her that he loves her so much and kisses her. Just then Billie starts crying out and Bo goes to her side.

In the jungle, a tarantula is climbing on Hope's back and John tells her not to move! John quickly flicks the tarantula off of Hope's back, John tells her it was a pink toed bird spider. Hope and John then argue about whether she will go back to the compound and John gives up arguing when she refuses to return. Hope looks at the picture of the orchid and John tells her that perhaps this orchid grows anywhere near water and they decide to venture to a nearby lagoon.

When they finally get to the lagoon, they set up camp and John sets up a high fashion laser fence to protect them. Hope wants to take a swim in the lagoon but first she gathers some rocks to build a fire. Hope ventures into a nearby cave and we see a native enter the lagoon. Hope starts a fire and then decides to take a swim because it's so hot.

While swimming, Hope spots an orchid and wonders if this is the special orchid. Hope takes the orchid and returns to camp, but is followed by a native. Meanwhile John continues to set up the laser detection fence when he hears suspicious activity nearby. John looks around and discovers the suspicious sounds were Monkeys. John finishes setting up the laser fence and then activates it. Hope has now returned to the cave and compares the picture to the orchid she found and realizes that it's not the correct flower.

When John returns to the cave, Hope is gone and it appears to John that someone has been dragged out of the cave. John finds Hope, she's fine and has caught some fish for dinner and has also found some bananas. John and Hope then take a swim in the lagoon. Hope and John decide to leave their camp exactly as they left it so they don't anger the natives. Hope is still wondering about her mysterious past and then they take another swim. John finds something in the lagoon and says it would make a good necklace and Hope decides to search for one for herself.

When Hope doesn't resurface, John starts to worry. John pulls Hope from the lagoon and gives her mouth to mouth to bring her back. Hope says she found some stones on the bottom of the lagoon and got tangled in some vines. John realizes that he never knew this side of her, and this side is giving him a heart attack every five minutes.

Later that evening as John sharpens his machete, Hope admits that she wants to forget Bo and move on. John tells her that he knows she's trying to forget about Bo by throwing herself into the search for this cure. They decide to rest and when John offers to take the first watch Hope tell him the laser will protect them so they should both gets some rest.

10/2 In the jungle, John and Hope lie side by side, dreaming of going to bed with the people they love. John has a dream about Marlena, and Hope dreams of Bo. They move closer and closer together in sleep, and end up almost kissing, when suddenly the sound of a piercing alarm wakes them up. One of the natives had breached the perimeter and tripped the laser alarm. John and Hope find the alarm that was tripped and nearby, a crude doll with a poison arrow in it. John tells Hope it's a warning.

They break camp and set off through the jungle again. Naturally, they can't go 100 yards without taking a break and diving into another convenient, deep pool. While they swim, they each remember times in strikingly similar pools with Doc and Bo. They each make the other promise that if they don't get back safely, they will tell Marlena or Bo how much they loved them.

While they are swimming, natives steal their weapons. They are forced to press on unarmed. They decide to take a treacherous cliff route that will save time. While they are climbing, John sees a poison arrow being thrown at Hope and pushes her out of the way, but loses his balance, falling down the side of the cliff. Hope screams in terror.

10/3 Bo calls home and finally reaches Shawn D. He tells him that he and Billie may be in Rome a while longer. He asks how Shawn D is doing with Mrs. H? Shawn D says it's great, but he misses his parents and the old days on the Fancy Face. Bo says he misses that too. He asks if Shawn D has heard from Hope. His son says he guesses Hope is having a great time with Franco somewhere.

Bo looks disappointed, but hides it, and tells Shawn D that he needs to have a very serious talk with him about their family situation when he gets home. He also tells him he's going to bring him some great fishing gear (which is the Brady substitute for spending time with your kids).

As he walks around the marketplace, Bo thinks of Hope and has a series of flashbacks to kissing her when they got married, carrying her aboard the “Fancy Face” and surprising her with it, kissing her on their boat. They pinky swore they would never be separated, and then another reunion. He wonders if she is thinking of him as he is thinking of her. Then tells himself she is too busy with Franco to be thinking of him. Bo tells himself that something is wrong, someone he cares about is in trouble. As Bo approaches their door, he is still unable to shake the feeling that someone he loves is in trouble.

Hope is relieved to see that John only fell a short way down the cliff onto a ledge, but he is too far away for her to help him out. His foot is jammed between a couple of boulders and he can't move. He is obviously in pain from the fall. The natives start firing poison darts again, and John tells Hope to get the hell out of there and save herself. Hope disappears and John thinks she's gone back to the compound for help, but knows he will never survive out there at the mercy of the natives. He begins to daydream about him and Marlena, remembering Belle's birth and the night they got back together after exposing Kristen's schemes.

He hears something on the path above and gets ready to die fighting the natives, but it's only Hope. Hope throws down a rope of braided vines and rappels down the cliff. She gets out some lotion to grease John's foot so he can work it out of the rocks. John is impressed by her resourcefulness. But just as she is about to lead the climb back up, their vine rope is cut from above, leaving them on a narrow ledge and totally exposed to the native darts. Just when it seems that things can't get any worse, they smell smoke, John is alarmed to discover that the natives have set the whole ridge on fire, and it's heading straight for them.

10/6 Bo is still having feelings that someone he loves is in danger, but he doesn't think it can be Hope since she's off on a vacation with Franco. Austin asks Bo what his intentions towards his sister are, after she gets well. Austin wonders if Bo still loves Billie but Bo tells Austin that Hope is the woman he loves and wants to be with.

Austin tells Bo he's already lost Hope's love, will he risk losing Billie's as well? Bo realizes that it is over with Hope and then he remembers his past with Billie. Billie wakes up and tells Bo she had the most wonderful dream, she dreamt that she was expecting Bo's baby!

Billie tells Bo soon he'll be able to go back to Hope, the woman he wants, but Bo says he's not so sure what he wants anymore. Bo tells Billie that maybe they can rekindle their romance. Billie says she'd like that very much but she doesn't understand what happened to his love for Hope? Bo tells her that Hope is with Franco now and for some reason their love is different now. Bo tells Billie that maybe they should give their relationship another chance.

Billie is eager to take a chance and she doesn't really care what Bo's reasoning is. Bo tells Billie that her love has always been constant for him, never changing, he won't walk away from it again. That is why Bo wants to try to get back together and Billie hugs him and tells him she loves him. Bo begins to think that the feelings he had for someone in danger, and how the someone may be Billie, and the danger is her emotional state.

In the jungle, the Hope and John are stuck on a cliff. Above them is a fire and angry natives, below is nothing but rocks. John thinks maybe they can climb down but Hope tells him that it's over for them. They argue and Hope finally tells John that unless a miracle happens they are both dead. John finally admits that they are most likely going to die, and they both tell each other who they'd like to say goodbye to, and that they are both proud to have known each other. He takes off his shirt and rips it up so he and Hope can cover their mouths and stop inhaling the smoke.

Hope and John find a small cave but can't move the boulder away from the entrance so that they can both get in safely. John tell Hope to get inside the cave, but she refuses to go in without John. Hope tells John to pull and they manage to pull the boulder away, but once inside a rock slide occurs and John and Hope are hit. John is fine, but he finds Hope unconscious on the cave floor. John tells Hope they are safe here, and he will get them out alive. The show ends with a native watching John and Hope from the bushes.

10/7 In the jungle, John slaps Hope awake while a native watches from inside the cave! John starts questioning Hope to make sure she is okay and she remembers everything, but has a bad headache. John tells Hope he needs to check some things out and leaves her for a couple minutes. As John explores the cave the native hiding in there pulls out a knife.

John goes off to find some water to clean Hope up and returns to Hope, there doesn't seem to be a way out. John tells Hope that even if they make it back to the compound he has a feeling that Stefano isn't done toying with their lives. Hope and John both realize that DiMera planned to have Hope go into the jungle with John all along, hoping she wouldn't return. John and Hope decide to rest, they both need the sleep. Suddenly we see John sleeping alone in the cave, and Hope is tied to a poll in the jungle!

At the compound, Doctor Rolf comes to see Stefano and tells him the other elements are breaking down, they cure will be lost within 48 hours. Stefano is angry and says if this happens his plans will be destroyed. Kristen then screams "What plans!" Stefano once again tells her not to worry and says they need to plan their escape, but Kristen refuses to go anywhere without John.

Kristen tells Stefano she must know what has happened to John so Stefano asks Dr. Rolf to tell the helicopter pilot and search for John and Hope. Kristen says that if they see them to pick them up, but Stefano tells her NO! If the helicopter lands the natives will attack it. Stefano says if John and Hope are still alive they are on their own. Dr. Rolf returns and tells Stefano that the natives have set the northern ridge on fire, and the pilot doesn't believe anyone could have survived.

10/8 While tied to a tree, Hope remembers Bo and cries out for him. In Rome, Bo thinks he hears Hope's voice asking for help. Bo calls Kate who mentions that Hope and Franco are still together.

10/9 Abe receives a phone call from Stefano pressing him to trade a full pardon for the cure for Roman. Although Abe is not authorized to make that kind of a deal, he wonders if it would be worth it if he could.

In the jungle, Hope has a fantasy that Bo comes and rescues her while she is tied to the stake by the natives. They apply some bizarre paint to her face and Hope begs God to please let her be saved so she can see Shawn D again. Meanwhile, John wakes up on the floor of the cave and quickly realizes that Hope is missing. He creeps through the jungle and stumbles upon his pack with his weapons and gear. He retrieves it stealthily, barely avoiding detection.

Finally, he sees Hope tied to the stake in the clearing, as the natives sprinkle some fluid around her and on the brush piled at her feet. He catches her attention to let her know he is on the job. Before the natives can do anything nefarious to Hope, John sets off an explosion by remote control, which sends the natives running to check it out. While they are distracted, John frees Hope and they escape to the river. They hope the current will take them south to the compound, but it turns out to be flowing north, and they end up at a waterfall.

When they stop to get their bearings, John sees an exotic orchid through his night-vision goggles. He is sure it is the flower they need for Roman's cure. Hope sees it too, and John tells her they have to decide if they want to leave the flower and make it back to camp by nightfall, or risk another night in the jungle, the steep climb to the top of the waterfall, and discovery and death by the natives to retrieve the flower. Hope says there is no choice - Roman will die if they don't get it. So they agree to try together.

Back at the compound, Stefano's men tell him that Hope is captive and John is presumed dead in the ridge fire. Kristen nearly goes out of her mind and accuses Stefano of setting it up to get John out of the way. He tells her to think - he needs John to come back alive and with a cure for Roman in order for his plan to work. Kristen doesn't believe him. But soon they get a report that John is alive and has rescued Hope.

Stefano hears that the natives are threatening the compound again and tells the jet to make ready to leave. Kristen tells him there is no way she's going anywhere without John. Stefano tells her she will do what she's told. But Kristen has other plans. She gets one of Stefano's guns and holds the helicopter pilot hostage, telling him to take off and find John from the air. Stefano sees her just before takeoff and tells her to stop at once, but Kristen points the gun right at his face. Stefano knows she will use it if she has to.

10/10 In the jungle, Kristen holds a gun to Stefano and tells him to get out of the way so she can go find John. Stefano finally agrees to help her, and offers to fly the chopper. Kristen is surprised to learn that Stefano can fly, and he tells her there is much she doesn't know about him. They set off in search of John and Hope.

Hope and John start up the cliff after the flower, but constant surveillance from the natives prevents them from getting very far up. Time and again, John tries to convince Hope to go back to the compound, but she refuses. They have to keep ducking under the water to avoid detection, holding so tightly to each other that Hope almost has the breath squeezed out of her. Finally, as they are about to swim up to the cliff, they hear a chopper overhead and are caught in a spotlight.

They see Kristen tossing a ladder down from the chopper and urging them to come up before the natives shoot them. Stefano yells that he can't hold the chopper steady in that position much longer. John urges Hope to climb up, but she says they shouldn't go without the flower, and the chopper can't get close enough to the cliff to help them. John says there is no way they can get the flower anyway because the natives are all around it. They float in the water at the bottom of the ladder, paralyzed by indecision.

10/13 In the jungle, Hope and John are in the river and Kristen and Stefano are above them in a helicopter. John tells Hope that they have to go up the ladder to the chopper, they have no choice. Hope goes up the ladder and John holds it steady at the bottom. Stefano notices another group of natives heading for John and says that John will never make it. Kristen starts screaming at Stefano not stay that, there has to be something they can do. Stefano drops a smoke bomb when Hope makes it into the chopper. Hope and Kristen look down at the ladder, and when the smoke clears John is gone!

Kristen tells Hope this is all her fault, she didn't climb the ladder fast enough. Stefano tells Kristen that John never had any intention of climbing the ladder, he waited for Hope to be out of danger and then went for the flower. Stefano points to the cliff which John is climbing. Hope and Kristen see that there are natives above and below the cliff, John doesn't stand a chance. Kristen and Hope want to help him but Stefano says that John will get the flower and escape. John pushes himself up the cliff towards the flower and Stefano takes the helicopter closer to the cliff so that John can get in and they can all leave.

When they get closer to the cliff, Hope and Kristen see the natives waiting for him and realize it's a trap. Hope and Kristen try to scream to John but Stefano tells them that John can't hear them. John makes it to the top of the cliff, retrieves the orchid, and puts it in his backpack. In Salem a sudden chill comes over Marlena, she senses John is in terrible danger, as much danger as Roman is in! Back at the cliffs John is knocked off the cliff by a native and plunges into the water below. When John doesn't resurface Stefano tells them that John is dead.

10/14 In the jungle, John is floating around in the lagoon unconscious and Hope threatens Stefano to land the helicopter. He tries to tell them that John is dead and they need to leave but Hope says that John got the flower and if nothing else they need to get it so that John's death will not be in vain. Stefano agrees to lower the helicopter and get low enough for Hope and Kristen to jump.

They head to the lagoon and Kristen wants to go in since Hope has a gun and can do a better job at keeping the natives away. Hope stops Kristen just before she steps on some spikes. She heads into the water as Stefano hollers at Hope on the walkie talkie that the natives are getting closer and he is going to land and get them. Hope hollers to Kristen they have to go but she says she won't leave without John. Then a native shoots a poison dart but misses as Hope fires the gun. Kristen gets out the water fast and they go to meet Stefano. As they walk off, we see that John was right there hidden in some grass.

They get back to the compound and the women argue that it was each other fault that John is dead as Stefano tells them to shut up. Rolf arrives to see if Stefano got the flower, he only has 36 hours to make the cure.

Abe puts Stefano on speaker phone so that Lexie and Celeste can hear. Celeste says that John is in danger and Stefano hears her. Lexie also says she is there and just says they want to talk to John. Abe tells Stefano that he talked to the governor about his pardon but there are conditions: John returning alive, and actually finding a cure for Roman. Abe tells Stefano that until he talks to John he won't do any more and hangs up.

Kristen walks in at the tail end of the call and figures that Abe has called his bluff. They argue about John being dead and it's his fault and Hope comes in to join them and says that John's death is on his head. She says that she he hoped that she had died out there too but she didn't and she will remember the secret and bring him down. Next we see John still floating in the water as natives walk by.

10/15 Billie and Bo are walking around, Billie is feeling much better now. Billie asks Bo if he's going to go back on giving their love another chance, Bo says he isn't but then thinks about Hope. Billie looks at Bo and knows he was thinking of Hope and says he is having second thoughts. Bo tells Billie that he always thought that when he returned to Rome, it would have been with Hope. Bo tells Billie that he still wants to give her a chance, and as they hug Billie tells herself she has to make him love her more than Hope.

Billie returns and Bo tells Bo she wants to talk to him. Billie tells Bo that she understands if he has memories about Hope, and she doesn't want him to try to bury them. Bo thanks Billie and he tells her his life is with her now. Billie says she's grateful to him and God, and she wants to help someone else.

In the jungle, Hope is at the compound and is thinking about John and how he fell from the cliff. Hope wishes Bo was here because he could save John. Kristen is furious with Stefano and refuses to leave the jungle without him. Stefano tells her to calm down, he thinks he has a plan to find John. Stefano says that he doesn't think John could have survived the fall, but John put the flower in his backpack.

Hope is pissed off at Stefano and says he doesn't give a damn about John or Roman, he just cares about that flower and his pardon. Stefano says of course he wants his freedom, but there is much more at stake for him. Hope and Kristen offer to go find John but Stefano says he has natives loyal to him that will find John. Stefano leaves and Hope goes to the compound wall, she knows John is out there and alive.

Outside, Stefano and Doctor Rolf talk and Hope hides and listens as they talk about keeping a close eye one her, they can't let her find out the secrets to Maison Blanche! Hope vows to save John, find out about her past, and put Stefano away for life. Stefano returns to the compound and Kristen is still pissed at Stefano because he failed to get her John. Kristen asks Stefano what is it about Hope that has him so scarred but he says nothing.

Hope shows up and tells Stefano she's going to go to her room and lay down, and Stefano tells her that's a good idea. Kristen asks Stefano why some of the natives hate him, and Stefano says when he was away a lumber company came and cut down a large part of the jungle. Stefano doesn't know what he will do if he can't find John and the flower, his plan was depending on him. Stefano and Rolf leave to go secure the lab.

Meanwhile, Hope breaks into a closet and finds it full of children's toys. She then gets into the locked room where the table with the taro is, but she doesn't get a chance, someone comes screaming for Dr. Rolf. Hope asks what is wrong and the man tells Hope that the natives are back with news on John. Hope goes to see Stefano, all that has been found of John is his watch. Stefano tells Hope that John is nowhere to be found, he is dead.

Out in the jungle, John has washed up on shore, and we know he's alive because he moves a finger. At the end of the show some natives drag John off by is arms.

10/17 Billie is surprised to see the fortune teller who was at her wedding with Bo a few weeks ago. She tells the lady that she was right about Billie's life being in danger, but it's over now and she is happy. The fortune teller says she is surprised Billie is still with her husband because Bo was strongly in love with that other woman. Billie loses her smile and tells the woman that his love for Hope is over.

The fortune teller says she is wrong, that the other woman is in grave danger right now and if Bo knew that, he would leave Billie in a second. Billie is very troubled. Bo comes and asks her what that character wanted. Billie explains she is a fortune teller, and Bo asks what her fortune is. Billie decides not to tell him anything about Hope being in danger. The fortune teller, who is listening, is saddened and disappointed by Billie's selfishness.

In the jungle, Kristen and Stefano try to convince Hope to go with them out of the jungle, because John cannot possibly still be alive. Hope says there is no way she is leaving without him. Stefano and Dr. Rolf are worried that Hope will discover the mysterious draped table with the secret of Maison Blanche hidden underneath the cover. Stefano realizes he has to get Hope to go with them rather than risk her finding the secret and somehow escaping the natives alive. He resorts to putting her on a guilt trip, thinking about all the people she will hurt if she dies - especially Shawn-D and Bo. Hope finally realizes she can't take that chance and agrees to leave with them.

Meanwhile, John has regained consciousness and found himself tied to a tree and all alone. He reaches his knife with his toes and flips it into his tied hand and manages to saw through the vine ropes.

In seemingly no time at all, he is back outside the compound, but he realizes that Stefano and his men are leaving, and the natives are between him and the plane. Just then, Hope and Stefano and Kristen leave the compound. Hope gets a crafty look on her face and starts to set off in a different direction from Kristen and Stefano. She is unaware that a native with a poison dart blower is just feet away, and aiming a dart right at her.

10/20 Later, Billie became a little light on her feet, so Bo told her he thought she'd had a full day and needed some rest. Billie and Bo returned to their room, and Bo asked her if something was wrong. He felt like she had something on her mind. Billie told him that there was something she'd been debating telling him, and Bo said they could swap secrets; he had something to tell her, as well.

Bo let Billie go first, but he stopped her and said what he had to say was more important. Bo told Billie he wanted to make love to her -- he wanted to consummate their marriage. Bo told her that he wanted to forget about everything and concentrate on her, and she said she wanted that more than anything. Bo then asked her what her secret was, and she said it was not important and led Bo to the bed.

In the jungle, Stefano, Kristen, and Hope headed toward the helicopter, and John was trying to get to the compound. A native shot a dart at Hope, but it missed and hit a tree. Stefano then fired into the jungle and told Hope if they didn't get out of there, they would be killed. Hope was positive John was out in the jungle and refused to leave without him. Stefano told her no -- they had got to go immediately.

Suddenly, the helicopter started to shut down. John heard it and thought they were in trouble, so he crawled back to the compound. The helicopter pilot said it would take a few minutes to repair the copter, and when Hope wanted to go look for John, Stefano told her no. Hope whined and moaned, and Stefano told her if she wanted to, she could go. Hope asked if he would wait for her, but he said she couldn't have it both ways. Hope knew Stefano was afraid of something she might know. The copter pilot said that he was just about ready, and they began to make preparations to leave once again.

John was in range of the helicopter and could see Hope and Kristen, when he was hit with a poison dart. Back at the chopper, another dart was fired, and Stefano ordered his men to shoot at anything that moved. John stumbled out of the forest, and the guards called Stefano and the gang. John passed out, and Kristen and Hope tried to revive him. Dr. Rolf noticed the dart in John's leg and told them he would be dead soon anyway. Dr. Rolf took the dart and said it was lined with deadly poison.

10/21 In the jungle, Stefano's men took John into the compound. As Hope was nursing John, Stefano ordered his men to search the jungle for John's backpack. Stefano then told Dr. Rolf if he couldn't return to Salem, all his plans were ruined. Dr. Rolf left and returned with a serum that might keep John alive until they could get the bark from the tree that the poison berries the natives used to make the poison on the darts came from. Stefano said that bark, when made into a tea, would counteract the berries' poison.

Abe called Stefano and demanded to talk to John immediately. Stefano said he was unavailable and would only get answers. Lexie asked to talk to her father, and she begged Stefano to take John and the cure back. Stefano told her he was trying to do the right thing, but they were having problems with the local villagers. Lexie told Stefano that Roman wasn't going to survive much longer. Stefano asked her if he saved Roman whether she would acknowledge that he was her father. Lexie asked why he had to bargain for everything. She said true good was doing something without getting something in return. Stefano said he would do the best he could and hung up.

Dr. Rolf asked Hope and Kristen to give him a moment with John so he could examine him. Kristen told Hope that they couldn't let John die, and Kristen noticed Stefano was missing, so she decided to go find him. Hope found Stefano working on some funky device that he claimed would buy them some time. Stefano told Hope it was a holograph projector. Hope said she remembered it from Maison Blanche, and he told her it had never been at Maison Blanche.

Stefano had his men take the projector to the compound wall and get ready to use it. Stefano was dressed up in this cellophane costume and some type of mask. The camera was aimed at Stefano, whose image was projected into the jungle. Stefano then started chanting and screaming, which scared the natives back into the jungle.

Back in John's room, Kristen was with him, but all he was calling for was Doc. Stefano's phone began to ring, so Kristen answered it. Abe asked to speak to John, and she told him that John had been poisoned and was dying. Marlena grabbed the phone and demanded to speak to John. Kristen said nothing, and Marlena begged to speak to John. Kristen said okay. Kristen placed the phone to John's head and told him it was Marlena. Marlena told John she loved him, and he said he loved her, too, and began mumbling about the cure for Roman. When John collapsed, Kristen turned the phone off.

Hope told Stefano that what he had done was incredible, and she thanked him. Suddenly, Dr. Rolf showed up with John's backpack, but there was no flower in it.

DVD #32B 10/22 Setting the stage for his night with Billie, Bo was laying rose petals on the bed. While doing so, he was thinking about Hope, figuring she had probably been to bed with Franco already, and Billie walked into the room in what looked like a mini white slip. She asked Bo if he was sure about it, and he told her they'd waited for a long time, and yes, he was ready. She found a picture of Hope in his shirt pocket. He apologized and told her he had forgotten about the picture. She understood that he still loved Hope, but he was the only man in her heart. She accepted that his feelings for Hope were different than they were for her.

Bo told Billie that making her his second choice was not good enough for her and pulled away from her. He told her she'd moved on to not have low self-esteem, and she needed to be number one. She was worth a man's total devotion and love, and she said, "And you can't give me that." He told her she had once had his total love and soul, and maybe they could find it again.

When she asked about Hope, he confessed if there was a chance to be with her, he wouldn't be there with Billie. But Hope was with Franco, and they were starting a new life together. All he knew was they were there that night together, and she had always been there for him. He planned on forgetting about Hope and kissed her.

The wind picked up and blew Hope's picture out the window. He looked out the window and told Hope goodbye and to be happy with Franco. He asked Billie if that was a sign.

Stefano was frustrated that the flower was not in John's backpack and that John had been hit by a poison dart and would die. In his room, on the phone, John told Marlena he was dying and he loved her. Yelling into her cell phone, Marlena asked John how he could be dying and said that she loved him. John said, "Don't leave me," and the connection got dropped as he fell asleep. Kristen, hearing they'd lost the connection, hung up the phone just before Stefano walked in.

Stefano pulled Kristen out of John's room and told her to let Hope comfort John so she couldn't snoop around the compound. Hope asked the doctor if there was anything she could do, but he said not without the bark. John's pulse was stronger since he'd talked with that Doc person, though.

John started calling out for Marlena, telling her he needed her. Kristen said no more calls, but Stefano said it was the only thing keeping him alive. Kristen turned the phone off and walked out. Stefano followed and told her to put her "damn jealousy" on hold and think about John's survival. John called again for Marlena. Dr. Rolf got up, and Hope sat by John on the bed.

John opened his eyes, saw Marlena, pulled Hope onto his chest, and hugged her. Hope got up and asked Dr. Rolf what was happening. He said John was probably hallucinating, and she should go along with whatever it was, as that was what was keeping him alive. John woke up and again and saw Marlena's face while looking at Hope. He touched her face and told her he wanted and needed her "so much." He asked her to please make love with him "now."

10/23 At Stefano's compound in the jungle, John was hallucinating in his delirium that Hope was Marlena and begging her to make love to him. The sight of John caressing Hope almost sent Kristen over the edge, but Dr. Rolf and Stefano restrained her and told her that the only thing that was keeping John alive was his illusion that Marlena was there. But when John tried to kiss Hope, it was too much for Kristen, and she grabbed Hope and threw her out of the way. John immediately cried out in pain, and his vital signs grew much weaker. Hope condemned Kristen for being so selfish that she was willing to let her irrational jealousy interfere with helping to save John's life.

Hope went back to John and tried to revive him, but it looked hopeless. Just then, Dr. Rolf rushed in with a cup of tea from the bark of the tree and said that it would save John. Kristen begged to be allowed to give it to him, but she was unable to make him respond, and furiously she had to give the cup to Hope, who looks pretty smug about the whole thing.

Hope, pretending to be Marlena, managed to make John gather up the strength to drink the antidote tea. Kristen and Stefano went out into the hall to wait, and Kristen was surprised to see Stefano close to breaking down as he saw all his plans go up in smoke.

Kristen asked why Stefano didn't just go live somewhere away from the United States in a life of luxury. Stefano said that his freedom wasn't the only thing he hoped to win, nor was Marlena -- there were things more important to him than even Marlena was.

Before Kristen could find out what that was, Dr. Rolf rushed out and told them that something was happening with John. They burst into John's room and found him regaining consciousness. He asked what had happened and seemed to trust only Hope to tell him. She told him about the poison dart and the antidote and about Marlena calling.

John said that he had gotten the flower. Hope had to tell him that it had fallen out of his backpack, and there was no way for them to make the cure. John was horribly disappointed and felt he had let Roman down. He asked to call Marlena right away and to let her know he was all right. Hope grabbed his cell phone, noticed it was turned off, and gave Kristen a dirty look before dialing Marlena.

When Marlena picked up on the other end and heard John's voice, she was overwhelmed with relief and gratitude. Once she found out that John would survive, she asked if he'd gotten the cure. John had to tell Marlena that there was no way for them to get the cure. Marlena was crushed but told John she was sure he had done his best.

Meanwhile, Hope, Stefano, and Kristen went out in to the hall to give John some privacy, and in frustration, Stefano hurled John's backpack against the wall. Suddenly, Hope noticed something falling out and demanded a piece of paper. She collected some seeds in the paper and asked Dr. Rolf if they were from the flower, and he said they were. Hope and Stefano asked if Dr. Rolf could make a cure for Roman from the seeds alone, and he said he just didn't know if there were enough.

10/24 At the DiMera compound in the jungle, John woke up feeling much stronger and saw Hope beside his bed. He asked her where Marlena was because he was sure she was there, that he'd held her in his arms and spoken to her. Hope told him it had been a hallucination, but John didn't believe her and got out of bed because he was convinced that Stefano had Marlena trapped somewhere in the compound. Finally, Hope confessed that she had pretended to be Marlena so that John could gather the strength to keep on living when the natives had been searching for the antidote to John's poison.

John was stunned but moved by Hope's gesture of generosity, which had probably saved his life. He thanked her, and she said that his health was the only thanks she needed. Just then, they felt explosions rock the compound. John held Hope close as they tried to figure out what was going on. John asked Hope if they had gotten the flower for the cure, and Hope said that all that was left in the bag were some seeds, and Dr. Rolf was trying to make the cure from their extract.

John told Hope that it was the perfect time for them to snoop for the secret from Maison Blanche that Stefano was hiding. Hope agreed, and they picked one lock on a door across the hall and found baby toys and clothes. Although it gave Hope the creeps, she couldn't figure out what they were for, so she tried the next door. It was double-bolted, and John had to pick the lock because it was too challenging for Hope. John kept working on the door as the explosions stopped for a while.

In the lab, Kristen was becoming unhinged as Dr. Rolf worked on the cure. She was positive she had no chance at John unless Roman survived. Both Stefano and Dr. Rolf told her to calm down so Dr. Rolf could work. Carefully, he extracted the juice from the seeds, but just as he was getting to the most delicate part of the process, they felt explosions rock the compound. A guard rushed in to tell them that the natives had gunpowder and were trying to breach the wall with a series of small explosions.

Stefano went out to do his medicine man holographic dance to scare them away again. When he got back, he asked Dr. Rolf if there was enough extract to make the cure. Rolf said, "No," Stefano was furious and saw all his plans going up in smoke, and Kristen started to lose it again. But then Dr. Rolf said, "Wait!" as he discovered one last beaker with a few drops of fluid, which just might be enough to finish the cure.

10/27 In the jungle, Dr. Rolf is still working on this cure. Suddenly an alarm goes off and Stefano realizes someone is breaking into the storage closets, and knows it's John and Hope. John and Hope are picking the lock to the storage closet, Hope knows what is in there will trigger memories of Maison Blanche and possibly destroy Stefano. Just as John is about to pop the lock, Stefano shows up and yells at them to get away from the door!

Stefano tells them what is in there is none of their business but Hope says that what is in there is her business because it could unlock the secrets to her past. Stefano says she has a vivid imagination and John tells Stefano to just 'fess up as to what is in there. Stefano tells John he's right, he is hiding something in that closet. John and Stefano argue, Stefano says they have no time for this but John wants to help Hope. Suddenly a guard tells Stefano that the natives are about to break in and kill them all. Stefano tells John he has a choice, he can open the door or he can help keep the natives at bay so that Rolf can finish the cure.

John and Hope are working to hold off the natives, inside Stefano tells Kristen if John is hit with another dart he will die, the tea cure only works once! Outside the natives are shooting darts at John and Hope, but they continue to try to hold the natives off by securing the wall. Back inside Rolf finishes the cure, but there is no time to test it. As Rolf puts the cure into the cooler Stefano signals the helicopter that they are ready to leave. Stefano and Kristen go out to the landing place, but John has gone to check the back wall. Stefano damns him and says they have to leave now! John returns and they climb into the helicopter. As Hope climbs the ladder John promises her they will return for the secrets.

10/29 Bo and Billie are in hot springs talking about poor Mike as they cuddle up. Having a little water fight in the hot tub, Bo sees a vision of Hope in danger (in the jet). He tells Billie and that Kate told her Hope and Franco went off together and how nice Franco is.

Apparently the chopper ran into a tree (a nasty storm showed up awful quickly). John's losing his patience wanting to know when the plane will arrive to take them back to Salem. Guess Rolf didn't survive the crash as he's no longer with them. As they argue over who has more invested in Roman's staying alive, the plane lands outside (sounds like a 747).

The jungle crew are jetting back to Salem and John tells Hope he's sorry she didn't learn more about her past while they were there. John goes to talk with the pilot and Kristen and Stefano talk. John brings back the flight map and learns they're going to fly through the Bermuda Triangle. Stefano hears that and orders the pilot to change their course John doesn't want to sleep so he can watch Stefano, who is having a drink with Kristen. Stefano tries to call Abe on cell phone, but too much interference.

The plane bounces around and Hope falls on John. Do they buckle up, nah! Lightning strikes and the lights go out...John get up and thrown down as the plane jerks again. The plane is going down!

The plane must've crashed as the next scene we see them in their life vests floating. Guess the pilots didn't make it either. Stefano's leg was hurt, but otherwise the four of them are all okay. Stefano still has the cooler in his hands and John swims a few feet to get the life raft. Stefano pulls Kristen in the life raft, but dropped the cooler in the process of getting in the raft. John is too busy looking for Hope, but Stefano keeps yelling to find the cooler.

10/30 In the boat in the Bermuda Triangle, Kristen and Stefano look around frantically for the cooler carrying the cure for Roman, but John, still in the water, is only concerned about finding Hope. Hope is a few feet away, struggling to hold on to the cure while waves and rain lash her face. When John finally spots her, she is face-down in the water, but holding on to the cure. John drags her and the cooler back to the boat, where Stefano eagerly grabs the cooler while John hoists an unconscious Hope aboard.

Once he climbs aboard, John immediately performs mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on Hope, begging her to remember Bo and Shawn-D, to live. Hope has a memory of being aboard the Fancy Face with her son and Bo, and fights back to life. John is so relieved when she starts breathing again that he holds her close and strokes her face while they share a moment of thankfulness. Hope tells John that hearing his voice talking about Bo and Shawn-D is what pulled her back, and John tells her that he was merely repaying her for saving his life.

Kristen watches their exchange and is almost cross-eyed with jealousy, but Stefano tells her to let it go. Kristen tells Hope that she should never give up on Bo - unless, of course, she has feelings for someone else. Hope says there is no one else, and John tells her that Kristen is right about not giving up. John fires off some of the emergency flares Stefano finds aboard the boat.

Suddenly, they see a light in the distance, on something that looks like a boat. John fires off the last flare so the boat can locate them. John and Hope sob in relief that they are saved and can bring the cure to Roman. Stefano is ecstatic that he can now put his plan into action. Kristen asks him what that plan is, and Stefano says that she should trust him - it will change all their lives forever.

10/31 On the ship that rescued them from the water, John and Hope and Kristen and Stefano find out they are closer to Salem than they thought (weird, because they went down over the Bermuda Triangle and Salem is in the Midwest). Kristen telephones her mansion and talks to the maid, who tells her that Roman was hospitalized and may already be dead. John and Hope and Stefano are devastated by the news (although for vastly different reasons), but cling to the hope that Roman may still be alive.

John asks for the phone to call Marlena, but Kristen says there is no way she will let him, because if Roman is already dead, it would be cruel to tell Marlena they have a cure and came so close to rescuing him. John finally agrees. Stefano says that it's all irrelevant anyway, because they can't have the cure unless Stefano gets his pardon. John personally guarantees Stefano that he will get the pardon, which is good enough for Stefano.

They dock in Salem and rush to the hospital, only to find a nurse cleaning up Roman's room. They think they're too late, but the nurse says that Roman is alive, and that his family took him to the hospital’s chapel. John, Hope, Stefano, and Kristen rush to the chapel only to find it empty.

11/3 At the hospital chapel, the gang is wondering where everyone is. Kristen gives John the cell phone and says call her house. The phone is dead. John says the battery is corroded by salt water. He calls on hospital phone and gets answering machine and they all panic. They ask a nurse if she knows anything and she tells them that Roman and Marlena left via cars, but doesn't know where they were headed. Kristen suggests he call Abe, but they tell him that Abe is at the hospital, so John pages him.

John, Hope and Kirsten burst through the doors announcing they have the cure. He looks confused by the scene taking place and Marlena rushes to him, Roman looks confused and Kristen just grins. Roman is upset by the sight of Stefano and begins to yell and collapses with another attack.

At the hospital, Roman is rushed into ER as Mike, Carrie and Austin also arrive. The crowd in the ER files back into the lobby as John says now, they wait. John and Hope explain about all they went through to get the cure as everyone listens amazed at their tale. Stefano strolls in and everyone turns to stare at him. Abe tells him he is going to get what he wanted and reluctantly hands him the pardon.

Mike comes out and tells them there is a problem. For the cure to work, they need the blood of someone who has used the serum before. Stefano steps forward and announces he is the only one who can save Roman's life but he has a price and it is a HIGH one and then the credits roll.

11/4 In Rome, Billie tries to wake Bo, but he's having a nightmare and calls out Hope. Bo wakes up and senses something is wrong with Billie. Billie tells Bo that he was dreaming and asks if he recalls. Bo says he was dreaming about someone who was in danger, and Billie tells him that he called out Hope's name. Bo tells Billie he loves her now and is married to her. Billie decides to call Salem to see how everyone is.

At Salem Hospital Stefano offers his blood to save Roman, for a price. Hope asks what the price is, but John interrupts and says if Stefano's blood doesn't match then their one cure will be lost. Stefano says his blood has been tested in this hospital before, so Mike goes to get the records.

Mike returns with Stefano's test, he is a match. Stefano tells everyone that in exchange for his blood he wants Marlena! Everyone gasps and Lexie says "No father, don't do this!" Stefano says they misunderstand, all he wants from Marlena, and all of them is their friendship and forgiveness. Stefano says he was hoping that this would be a new beginning for himself, and for all of them.

Stefano goes on to say his pardon is meaningless unless they accept him, he is tired of living his life on the outside. Stefano says he has decided not to live his life like that anymore, and that he wants to become a productive member of society and live a happy life in Salem.

John starts to tell Stefano what he can do with his conditions, but Marlena stops him and agrees to Stefano's condition. Marlena says she doesn't trust him, but she will try to believe that he is a changed man. Stefano tells them even if Marlena did refuse he would have given his blood. Stefano asks Lexie to take his blood and she says she would be glad to.

Hope and Jen talk as Kate listens in. Hope says perhaps Jack is in danger, she and Bo used to have that connection and that she knows he no longer loves her because Bo never sensed she was in danger, or even asked about her. Caroline thanks both John and Hope for what they did, and Kristen just watches from the background.

Billie calls Kate, who tells Billie and Bo that John brought back a cure for Roman. Bo wants to return home but she tells him to stay, she'll call back if there is any change. Bo asks about Hope and Kate tells Bo that Hope is back from her trip and looks happier than ever, but she says Hope just left to go home. Bo and Billie say goodbye, and Kate vows to make sure Billie remains happy with Bo.

Hope goes home to see Shawn D. and tells him about the cure for Roman. Shawn D. says she's glad she is back because it's dad's birthday. Hope says she completely forgot and Shawn D. wants to call his dad. Shawn D. asks where his dad is, and Hope says he's in Rome with Billie. Later Hope tells Shawn D. he should get ready for bed, and she kisses him goodnight. Hope goes outside and looks at "their" star and thinks of Bo, wondering if he feels her.

In Rome, Bo suddenly gets this strange feeling. Billie tells Bo she's sorry she didn't have a chance to get him a birthday present, but he says she is the best present he could have asked for.
