DVD #14A 2/8 Jack and Rusty meet on the pier. Jack wants to know why he is talking to Diana. Rusty says that maybe he should keep his nose clean. Jack threatens Rusty again. Jack says he didn't realize that it wasn't just the one woman he cheated with. Jack says it is too late now, the wife is going to find out. Rusty begs for him not to tell. Jack says it is too late, he needs to learn his lesson. Rusty stabs Jack and runs away. Jack goes to the Emergency Center and asks Kayla for help.

Jack makes his way to the Emergency Center as Kayla is getting there and finds him outside.  She takes him in to an exam room where he insists she help him, and not another nurse.  As he takes off his shirt to expose the wound she asks what happened and tells him that they can call the police when she's finished which he refuses, making Kayla suspicious.  Once she's patched him up, Jack thanks her, but she simply tells him its her job.  He asks her to just accept his thank-you as he's trying to be nice, which sets Kayla off on a rant about how he tried to destroy her life and she can't forget any of it.  She tells him she just doesn't understand him, which he retorts she never tried.  

Steve is working the market when Max comes home after school.  He asks where his Pa is and Steve tells him he's still at the hospital.  Max confesses he's worried about his Ma and Steve asks him how he's doing.  He tells him to think good thoughts and Max shares he's happy that Steve will be running the market for now.  The phone rings at the clinic to break the awkward pause, with Roman on the line telling Kayla that Caroline has regained consciousness.  Kayla puts down the receiver and Jack tells her he's happy about Caroline waking up. She asks why he'd care and Jack shares how Caroline had treated him like a son when he was married to Kayla.  She lashes back that he says he cares about the Bradys, but completely ignores his own family, the Johnsons.  She reminds him of how he turns his back every time they reach out to him, as though he were better than they, but it's the Johnsons that are too good for him. 

Jack grabs her arm angrily and says he's had all he can take from her and demands she hear him out.  He tells her he did not set out to ruin her life, but that he came to Salem with a plan to find her and marry her, because he loved her.  He reminds her of what a good guy he used to be until she just couldn't love him back.  They talk around the rape without saying it as he tries to explain how he got there and hopes maybe it is not too late to change. Not long after, outside the Emergency Center Jack is leaning on the wall when he hears a harmonica and rushes away. Steve enters the clinic to greet his wife who asks why he's not at the fish market.  He tells her Shawn relieved him and congratulates her on her mother's recovery.  He sees she is upset and she tells him about her encounter with Jack. She tells Steve Jack was stabbed but it was superficial and he'll be alright. Seeing Steve's face she tells him its okay to care about his brother and he doesn't have to hide it from her.

2/10 Shawn, along with Steve and Kayla are already visiting with Caroline in her room when she thanks Steve for helping out so much with the market and he reminds her that's what family's do. Then Jack shows up with flowers and Caroline tells him she heard about his stabbing and he responds he is fine, thanks to Kayla.  The room is full of awkward tension when Steve walks Jack out to the corridor and asks what's up.  Jack tells him he cares about Caroline and he's just trying to be nice, which Steve points out that he isn't even nice to his own mother, but Jack says he's learning to be nice.  He tells Steve how nice Caroline had been to him and says that he's sincere. Kayla comes out of the room as he leaves and asks what that was about.  Steve clearly doesn't trust Jack, but Kayla tells him he might be wrong and that if Jack really is trying to change, could he forgive him?  Steve says no and heads for the market. 

Roman shows up and Kayla tells him about Jack. She points out how Steve used to talk about his baby brother, Billy, before finding out that was Jack, and worries he won't give him a chance as he feels it would betray her.  She tells Roman that although she can't forgive Jack, he is still Steve's family. Jack finds Kayla at the Emergency Center, reminding her she'd asked him to come back for a checkup.  She takes him to the exam room and tells him that showing up with flowers today reminded her of the old Jack she once knew, the one who cared about people. He shrugs it off and says it was no big deal, but she points out that it was for her mother, and she's sure there's others who'd like to see that old Jack again. He jokes when she's finished examining him that he has to go as he has a busy day destroying lives. She encourages him to think about what she said as he leaves. 

Steve is dealing with a difficult customer when Jack comes into the market.  Steve ushers the customer out, bracing for Jack who assures him he's not there to cause trouble.  Jack tells him he wants to help out Jo with a better apartment as he has plenty of money and she is his mother after all. He claims he wants Steve's approval or he know's Jo will refuse, acknowledging Steve doesn't trust him and that Jack doesn't blame him, but claims the offer is legitimate and asks him to think about it.  He leaves before Kayla arrives who tells Steve the good news that Caroline is going to be released tomorrow (unaware of her second heart attack). He tells her Jack was there earlier, and about his offer, but that he doesn't trust him. She tells him Jo is not the only one who wants to see him change, but Steve doesn't believe Jack can change. Kayla thinks he can, and tells Steve not to let her stand in the way of him making peace with his brother, but he tells her its too late for mending fences. 

The phone rings with Roman on the other end telling them about Caroline's second heart attack and they head back to the hospital. They get there to find a worried Shawn waiting in the corridor with Roman and Diana. They encourage him that she survived the first one and she'll be fine this time, but Kayla confesses it doesn't look good having another one so soon.

  2/13 The Brady's wait for news on Caroline's condition, as she has a crisis.   The family gathers at the hospital. Caroline flatlines but is stabilized. Steve gives Kayla a Valentine's Day present. Tom suggests to the Bradys that Caroline needs open-heart surgery. Victor interrupts, he wants to arrange for a specialist to operate on Caroline. The family reluctantly agrees.

2/16 Steve is working at the Fish Market, sweeping, when Jack comes in. The two are less than civil to one another. Jack wants to know if Steve talked to Jo about his idea, and Steve finally says no. Jack wants to put Jo up in a bigger and nicer apartment; Steve says to ask her himself. Jack knows Jo will not agree unless Steve okays it, and Steve won't do it. The two argue loudly back and forth, and Jo comes in and catches them going at it. She tries to break it up, but they are going at it like cats and dogs. Jack goes to leave, but Jo stops him in his tracks when she asks Steve what he wanted to talk to her about. Jack realizes that Steve DID intend to ask Jo, but he would not tell him so. They begin fighting again, each one sick of the other. Jo demands to know what's going on. Jack finally lays it out on the table, telling Jo about the opportunity he can give her to take a new place. Jo is shocked first and disappointed second that he will not admit his true feelings, and she regretfully declines the offer.

Steve congratulates Jo for making her decision to decline the apartment offer. Jo tries to explain it to Jack, but he's hurt. She tells him that she doesn't want his money-she wants his love. It would mean the world to her if he could get past everything and reach out to her and just call her Mama, but Jack can't do it. Jack leaves, and Steve and Jo talk. She reminds Steve that he and Jack are alike…words Steve does NOT want to hear or believe. Jo remembers how long it took Steve to accept her again, and she is not giving up hope on Jack. Steve hugs her and says he hopes she's right, for her sake, as Jack watches sadly from outside through the window.

Kim, Kayla, Roman and Diana visit Caroline before her surgery. At the hospital, Caroline wants to know who arranged for her specialist. Kayla tries to cover up the truth. Steve comforts Kayla. Tom tells everyone the surgery is over, and it looks good for her survival.

2/17 Steve is getting ready to open the Fish Market for the day when Adrienne shows up, knocking on the door. She tells him she's left Justin after finding out he was the one who rigged the stables to kill Emilio, while confessing to her affair with Emilio, but is torn as she still loves Justin.  Steve assures he'll support whatever she does. 

Meanwhile, Kayla shows up for work to find a guy robbing the Emergency Center. Jack shows up and fights him off, but the thief gets away when he punches Jack's injury.  After examining Jack's wound and calling in the incident to the police, she thanks Jack for his help. She tells him since he is fine, he should leave and let her get back to work.  Mike comes in and tells Kayla that Caroline's surgery went well and she's doing good. He tells her that he will be volunteering most mornings at the Emergency Center until he goes back on OR rotation at the hospital. Kayla congratulates him for the good news about his hand and hugs him as Jack lingers in the background. She playfully reminisces with Mike  about high school and how they used to date at one time as Jack awkwardly slips out the door.  Later, after the police show up and leave, Mike chastises Kayla for not telling him about the break-in. Kayla changes the subject and asks about him and April.  He tells her April is going through a rough period right now and the advice he keeps getting is to stay out of it and let her do this alone, which is hard because he loves her. April comes into the clinic looking to do some work.  Kayla tells her she is in luck as she hands her a stack of paperwork to file before going off to see patients. 

Jack shows up at the market. Steve, assuming Jack is there to make trouble, refuses to serve him.  However, Jack tells him he's there to talk about Jo.  He still wants to see her live in a better place, but Steve reminds him that she already turned down his offer.  Jack acknowledges that Jo just wants him to give her a hug and call her mom, but when Steve asks why he doesn't just do it, they argue.  Jack owns up to all the bad things he has done asking where do they go from here?  He asks Steve out to dinner so they can start rebuilding their relationship, but Steve points out that Jack is a liar, who assures Steve he has nothing up his sleeve.  Steve tells him if he wants to get close to Jo to do it without him as Kayla comes in.  Steve tells Jack this is why he can't forgive him as he pulls Kayla close to him.  He tells him he'll never forget what Jack did to his wife as Jack hangs his head in shame and says good-bye.  Steve holds on to Kayla, as Jack watches sadly from outside. After he leaves, Steve storms about Jack, but Kayla asks if he really wants Jack out of his life. 

At Shenanigans, Kayla asks is Steve wants to talk about it.  She tells him again that she's okay with him caring about his brother regardless of what Jack's done.  He tells her sometimes he still sees his little baby brother Billy inside of Jack, but it's not enough.  Kayla doesn't want to get in the way of him having a relationship with his brother, but Steve assures her that it's Jack who's in the way of himself.  They hold hands and kiss as Jack comes in and sees them at a table.  He sits at the bar and daydreams that it's him and Kayla holding hands and kissing   Steve and Kayla are having a nice dinner at Shenanigans when Jack walks in. He sees them instantly, but they don't notice him; they only have eyes for one another. Jack sits at the bar and watches them at their table, unobserved. Jack begins to fantasize having dinner with Kayla. In his dream, he tells her he loves her and she returns that love. Kayla tells him to kiss her, and he leans across the table to give her a kiss. Jack holds her hand, as Steve stands helplessly by. Jack comes to and realizes it was only a dream, and he gets up from his place and leaves.

2/21 Steve and Kayla are at the fish market when Marcus comes in.  He tells Kayla he's happy to hear Caroline is doing better and she tells him she's on her way to the hospital now to see her.  After she leaves the guys start reminiscing about their youth together and before they know it they've set up a blues jam session after close at the market.  Later Steve meets Kayla at the hospital and she suggests they have a quiet dinner for two tonight, but he tells her he already has plans, and for her to show up at the market after close, then leaves to get set up.  When Kayla arrives at the market she finds Steve on the harmonica, Marcus on percussion and one of their buddies on guitar, all jamming as she comes in and sits down to watch and listen.  A few others show up and among them, Mike, who sits with Kayla to watch the show.  During a break, Kayla and Mike have a heart to heart about his problems with April. Steve wants Alice to make him some donuts. Kayla tells Steve that everyone has finally figured out what she knew all along--that he's a great guy.

As the jam session continues, Alice joins after hearing the music from the street.  Afterwards, she tells them they will have to play again so Tom can hear.  After everyone leaves, Steve and Kayla turn the lights down and she tells him how everyone is going around saying how wonderful he is including her parents and Mrs. Horton, but she told them all when no one would believe her, but she was right about him all along and they kiss as they sway in each others arms. 2/22 DAYS FAIRYTALE BEGINS. Kim brings Andrew in the living room during a storm, as Shane tells him a fairy tale about a lost princess named Eve (shown as a fairy tale within the show) Roman = a knight, Steve = Steven Hood, these two argue about who will find the princess and claim half of the kingdom. Diana = Lady Diana, Victor = evil count, Marcus, Emilio, Julio = Steven Hood's merry men, Kayla = fair maiden, Jack = evil lord, Abe = noble sir, Calliope = a jester, Tom and Alice = a wiz and wizardress.

2/23 Mike and Kayla enter the Park Cafe after finishing their shifts at the Emergency Center and sit down to have a coffee. He tells her how much more fullfilling it is to volunteer at the center than his paycheck from the hospital.  The conversation comes around to April as Kayla asks Mike how he's coping with the situation with having to take a step back from April.  Jack comes in and sees Mike and Kayla sitting together and immediately heads for the payphone to call Steve at home, asking him to meet him there right away.  Grudgingly Steve agrees.  When he shows up he sees Mike and Kayla and Mike tells him he's been crying on Kayla's shoulder, but to please join them.  Steve motions across the room and tells them he has to meet with Jack.  

When Jack tells Steve he wanted to meet about Jo, Steve through his games and asks what it is really about and just say it.  Jack questions about Mike and Kayla spending so much time together and how they used to date. Steve tells him to stop, as Jack is just making trouble again, and heads back to his wife's table.  They ask what Jack wanted, but Steve said he'd forgotten it already and sits down with them. Mike leaves and Adrienne comes in.  Steve and Kayla ask her to join them.  They ask her about Justin and if she's having second thoughts about leaving him. Feeling torn between loving Justin and hating the things he does, she asks Steve if he thinks a person can change, but Steve is wondering the same thing about Jack.  She leaves saying at least she'll never be alone because she has family.  Kayla asks Steve again what Jack wanted, but he just tells her maybe people like Jack and Justin can't change and he may have to forget Jack is his brother.  However, Kayla points out that Steve has changed.  Jack returns to the Cafe to see Steve and Kayla kissing.

2/24 The fairy tale continues.

2/28 Steve and Kayla arrive at Jo's apartment at her request so she can discuss Jack with them.  She thinks he really is trying to change, but maybe feeling left out now that his ex-stepmother who helped raise him, Anjelica, has a child of her own now.  She wants to invite him to dinner, but doesn't believe he'll agree to it if it's just her and him, so she asks Steve and Kayla if they will join. Somehow the conversation comes around and the decision falls on Kayla's shoulders, so she agrees for the sake of Steve and Jo, believing family should be together.  Jack goes over to Jo's as she has asked him to stop by and there she asks him if he will join her for dinner.  He's about to refuse when she blurts out that Steve and Kayla will also be attending.  He tells her he will be there.   Kayla stops by the Cheatin' Heart to drop off fliers for the Community Center and sees Mike. He asks if she can work tonight at the Clinic with him as they are short a nurse. She tells him she has plans, but nothing she can't get out of and goes to inform Steve. 

Back in Diana's office, Jack snoops around when the phone rings.  It's Kayla wanting to let Diana know that Caroline is getting much better, but Jack tells her she and Roman went to visit Caroline at the hospital.  He tells her he's happy her mother is doing better and he'll see her tonight, but she tells him she's been called into work and can't make it, before hanging up.  Immediately Jack calls Jo to cancel saying he has a late meeting come up. When Steve finds out he tells Jo to set the table for three as he was bringing Jack back with him. 

At the Spectator, Steve confronts Jack and bullies him into going, laying on a guilt trip about how he treats Jo, the only one who really loves him.  In Jo's apartment, Steve and Jack are sitting at the table as she clears the dishes away.  They move to the couch and she tells Jack that he's always welcome at her home and that she, Steve and Adrienne are his family.  Steve comments on how nice Jo looks and compliments her pin, asking where she got it.  She tells them she doesn't know really as it was from Santa at the hospital Christmas party and she just hasn't had the opportunity to wear it yet. Jack gets uncomfortable and rushes off, saying goodnight momma, under his breath.  Later, at the Cheatin' Heart, Kayla asks Steve how the dinner went.  He tells her he is starting to get the feeling that Jack really is trying to change.

3/2 Steve and Kayla enter the Emergency Center, and they find an envelope with a sizable donation check from Jack. Steve smells a rat, and they wonder what's up. A smiling Jack enters, telling Steve he has to learn to trust. Jack ignores his brother and greets Kayla kindly. Steve still wants to know what's up. Kayla asks Jack what he's trying to buy with this money.  He reminds her of being treated there after being knifed, and being on the hospital board he knows the Center needs funding. Jack says it's to be thought of as him paying his bill for her help. When he mentions the donation is to celebrate the birth of his new baby brother, Steve looks hurt by Jack's choice of words.   Steve is rattled a bit by those words, but Jack is clearly thrilled by the prospect of this new baby in his life. Kayla reluctantly accepts his gift, and Jack leaves. Steve is still convinced that Jack's motives are not pure. Mike Horton shows up for duty, and Steve heads out. Mike asks Kayla if everything is okay and she tells him she just hopes Jack doesn't hurt Steve again.  After treating Tess, a little girl who came in with cat scratches, Kayla tells Mike she can accept Jack for Steve's sake, but it's not easy.  She asks about April, but finding out things are off with them, she invites him out with she and Steve for dinner and then to Steve's blues session with Marcus at the Fish Market.  He accepts.

Later, Steve meets Marcus at Shenanigans, who's looking through some collector's records he just bought.  Steve tells Marcus about the donation from Jack to the Center and shares his suspicions.  Mike is proudly wiggling his fingers while sitting at a table at Shenanigans when Kayla comes in and congratulates the mobility he's gotten back in his hand.  Steve comes in and jokes about them holding hands and she and Steve sit down with Mike.  The bartender brings over a bottle of wine, sent over by an acquaintance of theirs, Andrea, whom they ask to join them.  They are laughing and telling old stories when April comes in, thinking Mike is on a date.  Andrea, Mike and Kayla are seated at the Fish Market while crowds are gathering for the blues session.  Marcus shows up with Calliope and Titania, his date, while Steve and JD are warming up, waiting for him to arrive.  The music goes on and people dance and clap along. 

  3/6 Kayla is preparing food at the loft when Steve comes home and shows her a deed to a house. She sees his name is on it and jokingly asks if he bought a house without her knowing it, to which he sarcastically states, with what money. He suggests maybe someone gave him a house but who. He calls the County Clerks Office to check the validity of the deed and finds out someone put it in his name, but ironically, there is no record of who previously owned it. Steve jokes maybe he has a rich relative he doesn't know about. Kayla asks where it is? Steve tells her it looks like it's on a big piece of property just south of town. Excitedly, Kayla says they should go see it and they grab their coats.

Steve and Kayla wander the halls of the old mansion. She can't believe it's all theirs, but Steve points out it will need a lot of repair work. Kayla is optimistic and tells him it will be fun for them to fix it up together. She excitedly talks about the library and formal dining room, not to mention all the bedrooms. When Steve talks about the cost of the up-keep alone, she suggests they turn it into a bed and breakfast, but he tells her not to get ahead of herself until he finds out who gave it to him. They go into another room and discover a mug that's still warm. Steve thinks maybe it was just some squatter, but when Kayla mentions maybe it was the owner of the house, Steve gets a serious look and tells her it's time to go. Outside, Nick in his mask and dirty bandaged hands, walks along the road through the snow. Steve and Kayla almost hit him on the icy road as he falls into the snow. They stop to help him and discover who he is. He drops the medallion and Kayla picks it up.

Steve and Kayla take Nick back to his room in the mansion and Kayla checks him out. Steve looks through his bag trying to find dry clothes and finds the magazine cover with Eve. Suddenly he puts it all together that it was Nick who helped Eve when she was held by Eddie. He tells them it doesn't matter and they shouldn't have stopped to help him out as it's better for everyone if he is out of their lives. Kayla tells him it's not true, but he asks them to let him go so Eve can get on with her life and they can get on with theirs in their new home. Steve and Kayla realize it was Nick who gave Steve the house as there was no other way he could have known about it. Nick confesses, but breaks into a coughing fit. Kayla tends to him and sends Steve away to get Nick some food. Through his coughs he tells Steve that Nick Corelli is dead and is going to stay dead. Kayla returns the medallion to Nick and he tells her Eve gave it to him. She asks why he's running from Eve if she means so much to him, but he motions to his badly scarred face. Steve brings food and dry clothes, including a new coat, but he and Nick argue so he leaves to go wait in the car. Kayla follows. On the drive home, Steve and Kayla argue about Nick as Steve is fed up with him, but Kayla doesn't want them to give up on him.

3/7 Kayla and Steve find out that Eddie Reed has escaped from prison. Steve and Kayla talk about going to check on Nick, since Eddie escaped. Eve goes to see Steve and Kayla and sees Nick's coat, as they cover about it. Eddie learns Steve owns the house, and goes to the loft snooping when they go out. The Bradys gather for Caroline's welcome home party at the Donovan’s. Eddie breaks into the loft while Steve and Kayla are at the party. Eve asks Steve and Kayla if she can have the coat, but they come up with a lame excuse. Steve and Kayla return home the find the place ransacked.

3/9 Steve and Kayla talk about Nick, as Eddie hovers outside the loft. They visit Nick at the mansion, and convince him to come back to Salem with them. Eddie breaks into the loft again and finds newspaper clippings about Nick. Steve, Kayla, and Nick have a little run-in with the police. Steve and Kayla realize that Eddie broke into the loft. Eddie begins to guess that Nick isn't dead. Shane brings Eve by and asks Steve and Kayla to watch Eve while he's out looking for Reed.

3/10 At the loft, Eve thanks Kayla for letting her come over even though her dad insisted as Eddie Reed is still on the loose. Kayla assures her it's fine and asks if she would like some lunch, but Eve notices she's distracted and asks again if this is a bad time. Upstairs, Nick stresses to Steve that Eve can't find out he's there, but Steve tells him he should go downstairs and talk to her and tell her he's alive. Nick makes it clear that Eve can never find out so Steve agrees to cover for Nick, even though he thinks Nick is doing the wrong thing.

Steve comes downstairs and Eve tells him she really hopes she's not keeping them from anything as her eyes scan the room. She asks about the coat she saw at their place the other day and acknowledging Steve had said it was his, she still believes it belonged to her friend in the mask who helped her get away from Eddie. She begs Steve to tell her the truth. Kayla excuses herself to go upstairs where she finds Nick listening to Eve telling Steve how her masked friend saved her life and that she has to find him as she believes he needs her now. Kayla pushes Nick to reveal himself, but he says he's already messed up her life enough already and the best thing for Eve is for him to stay away. He threatens to leave, but she convinces him to stay by promising not to give him away.

Kayla comes back down and Eve admits she's a good liar and therefore can spot a lie from others. She knows they are not telling her the truth. She pushes that they didn't get rid of the coat as Steve said while both Steve and Kayla stay silent. A crash is heard from upstairs and Eve exclaims there's someone there as she rushes up the steps with Steve and Kayla following. However, when she doesn't find anyone, she begs them to tell her what they are hiding from her. Nick hides outside the window listening as Eve repeats she knows someone was there, but Steve points to the open window and tells her it was just the wind. He tells her that her friend was probably in hiding because he felt he needed to because the way he looked. He goes on to tell her that he once felt that way too because of the patch. Eve points out that was until he met Kayla, and she doesn't care how her friend looks. She says she misses him and just wants to be with him. The ladies go back downstairs and Steve helps Nick back in the window. He tells Nick he believe Eddie broke in earlier and that he may be getting close to realizing that Nick is still alive. Nick offers himself as bait, but both men have conditions. Nick will not keep running, but Eve can never find out he's still alive.

Dvd #14B 3/14 Steve and Kayla tell Nick they want answers about Eddie and the money. Nick then fills them in on the whole story, including the fact the money is Harper's and thus now is Jack's. Nick and Steve are trying to come up with a plan to smoke out Eddie. Steve doesn’t want Kayla involved as it is too dangerous and he doesn’t want anything to happen to her. Kayla has an idea about how to smoke out Eddie, but she wants in on the plan. Kayla puts her plan in motion to try and smoke out Eddie, by having the reporters reveal Steve inherited the house from Nick. The first part of the plan works like a charm! Steve tries to get frisky, but the latest Jack dilemma comes up. Kayla and Steve talk about Nick's feelings.

3/16 Steve tells Kayla they need to bring Shane in on the plan to catch Eddie Reed. Steve goes to see Nick and fill shim in on bringing Shane in on Eddie's capture. Nick agrees, only if Donovan will keep his secret. Kayla feels guilty about lying to everyone about Nick.

3/17 Steve and Kayla tell Shane the masked man is Nick, and that he's alive and they knew for a few months now. Shane is angry at all of them for what Eve has gone through, but agrees to help out. Eve finds out that Steve is the current owner of the mansion. Eddie works on his disguise; Eddie finds out that Nick was the previous owner of the house and takes the bait, and puts two and two together. Kayla and Steve receive good news about Caroline, and bad news about the newscast-it aired an hour early.

3/20 Eve comes face to face with Nick. Eddie takes Eve hostage. Kim confronts Kayla about her dishonesty. Eddie wants his money and throws Nick around. Steve and Shane show up with guns and there is a showdown. Eddie escapes. Everyone is with Nick at the hospital. Steve and Kayla are in the doghouse right now with the Donovans.

3/22 Steve and Kayla go to see Nick and try to convince him to have plastic surgery. Shawn and Caroline are very grateful for him stepping up and running the Fish Market after her heart attacks and surgery. They offer Steve a partnership in the Fish Market in return for sharing the load and giving them some time off. He is very touched that they would trust him and want him to be a partner in their family business. Steve is unsure if this is the right path for him.

3/24 Abe informs Steve and Kayla that charges are being brought up against them for helping Nick unless Nick talks to DA Mickey. Steve goes to see Nick about the situation he and Kayla are in, and how Nick can clear them all by handing over the two million to Mickey. Nick asks for more time. Steve and Kayla are finishing up at the Brady Fish Market when J.D. shows up early with his guitar case to set up for their jam session later. Soon after, a couple show up while Steve is sweeping and the guy makes a comment that he never thought he'd see Steve Johnson happy gutting fish as they go and take a seat. Kayla overhears and tells Steve that if he doesn't want to run the place to just say so. He doesn't want to talk about it right now, but acknowledges what an honor it is to have Shawn want to give him half the business.

Marcus shows up and they banter a bit before discussing why Nick won't get plastic surgery to repair his burns. J.D. calls them over and the jam session begins with Steve on the harmonica and Marcus, with drumsticks in hand, playing beats against a tabletop. Kayla sees a young woman watching through the window, but when she turns to look she is gone. Later, Gail comes in saying she heard the music and introduces herself to Kayla. Kayla points out her husband, then says she must already have met Marcus, who smiles across the room at seeing her arrive. Mike and Jennifer show up at the market and sit with Jennifer and Kayla. Kayla sees the girl outside again and goes to talk to her. She invites her in but she declines, so Kayla tells her she will go inside and get her some clam chowder. When she gets back the girl is gone. With the session over the crowd thins out, but as Gail leaves it is clear to Steve and Kayla that Marcus is smitten with her as he runs to catch up with her. Alone in the market, Steve and Kayla talk playfully then eagerly rush to get home. In bed they talk about his harmonica and he plays a couple bars before they kiss and turn out the lights. They hurry home to continue making love.

3/28 Steve is torn about the partnership the Brady's offered him. Jack comes to the Fish Market, going in with a silly accent and asking for chowder. Steve is less than amused. Jack talks about the fact that Steve and Kayla aided Nick, keeping him hidden away, as he'd requested. Steve says that it is what friendship is about. Jack frets that Steve and Kayla will end up in jail for aiding and abetting. He gives Steve a card with the name of someone who can help them. Steve refuses the offer, but Jack leaves the card on the table before him as he goes.

Marcus gets on Steve's case about the fish market business. The homeless girl Steve helped earlier comes back to the market. This time, Steve sells her some chowder for a good deal. A poor young girl comes into the Fish Market, and Steve greets her in a friendly way, wanting to know what he can get for her. Her face deliberately blank, the girl draws a gun on him and shakily tells Steve to get her money from the cash register. Steve tries to calm her by talking, moving slowly, as Jennifer and Adam come to the door. The girl doesn't see them there, and Adam moves stealthily forward. He lunges for the gun as he and Steve and the girl all fight over it. A shot rings out and Jennifer screams.

3/29 Adam gets shot wrestling the gun away from the homeless girl, as Steve calls for help. Jen recognizes the girl from her time on the streets. Steve brings Sally, the homeless girl to the hospital, when it appears she is in labor, but it turns out to be a false alarm, and she is arrested. Marcus and Steve talk about Marcus remembering his past before the orphanage. At the hospital, Steve comes in with Sally; they think she's having the baby, and she's rushed off to be checked out. Jennifer, Alice and Steve talk about Sally's plight.

3/30 Mickey tells Steve he is being pushed to bring charges against him and Kayla for helping out Nick. Mickey tells Steve that if Corelli coughs up enough money to pay Salem back, he can probably get the charges dropped. Steve learns Nick doesn't plan to have the surgery, but was only saying it to get Eve to have hers. Steve tells Nick of Mickey's counter offer, and Nick agrees to cover the $50k. Nick and Steve make plans to retrieve the money.

4/3 Mike comes to the Fish Market looking for Kayla. Steve tells Mike that Kayla went to the capital to get funding for the Emergency Center. Steve asks Mike what brought him to the side of town. Mike jokingly replies music. Steve says not tonight. Mike makes a comment about fish. Steve knows that mike doesn’t really want talk about the fish. Steve asks what’s wrong and Mike says he can’t find April. He says he’s looked everywhere and is starting to get worried. Steve is at the Fish Market. He is trying to fix a broken machine and gets cut. Shawn and Caroline come home. Shawn sees the broken machine and goes to get a part to fix it. Caroline asks Steve if he spoke to Kayla. He said they spoke yesterday. They don’t get to talk often because they don’t want to spend money on long distance calls. He says he hopes Kayla is better at getting money than Marcus. Caroline says it’s too bad Steve couldn’t go with Kayla and make it a nice vacation.

Shawn comes back and says Steve has responsibilities and can’t just run off whenever he wants. He then tries to show Steve how to fix the machine. The machine is fixed. Shawn offers to break it again to give Steve the chance to fix it. Caroline says Steve is a partner not a teenager give him a break. Marcus comes in and asks Steve to go play pool. Shawn tells Marcus that Steve is now a partner in the Fish Market. Shawn starts going on about the benefits of being a partner. Caroline pulls him away to make dinner. She invites Steve and Marcus and they decline. Shawn and Caroline go upstairs. Marcus thinks Steve is going to turn them down. He says he can’t because it means so much to Shawn Caroline and Kayla. Marcus asks if Kayla is pressuring him to say yes. Steve says no but he is sure that it would make her happy. Marcus asks if this will make Steve happy and he says I don’t know. Marcus and Steve are playing pool at The Cheating Heart. Steve sees a civil rights leaders book and questions Marcus about it. He says he was reading up to answer questions from Carrie. Marcus thinks he should know his heritage. Steve notices this is the second time that Marcus has brought up his heritage in the last week. Steve believes that Marcus wants to look up his family. Steve tells Marcus that even though he didn’t want to, finding his family turned out well for him. Marcus avoids the subject. Steve leaves. Steve stands outside the window and watches Marcus.

4/5 Kayla is in the loft bedroom and begins taking off her clothes. She climbs into bed and kisses Steve awake. He calls her sweetness and she says you remember me. He says of course and they begin to make love. After they make love, Kayla says she decided to come home early because she couldn’t get funding for the Center. Kayla asks Steve how much he missed her. He tries to play it off but after some convincing admits he was going crazy without her. They start to make love again when the phone rings. It's Nick saying he’s ready and that he has two million dollars he needs picked up. Steve hangs up and tells Kayla he must go. He asks her if she has ever seen two million dollars. She says no and decides to join Steve. Steve and Kayla go to Nick’s hospital room. Nick asks what took them so long. Steve says they are here, that’s all that matters. Steve asks if Nick took care of his end of the deal. He says yes, the bank is fine with the plan. Nick says once they get the money the district attorney will be here to collect their fines. Kayla says they’re lucky that Mickey is letting them all off with just paying court costs. Steve says maybe now someone will catch Eddie Reed. Kayla says maybe they can have peace and quiet once today’s over. Steve reminds Nick that he promised Eve he would get his face fixed. They leave. Steve and Kayla are outside the bank. An officer from the bank is holding a safety deposit box with two million dollars in it. He tells Steve and Kayla to stick close and follow him. As they leave, we see a guy hidden behind a newspaper follow them.

Steve and Kayla are back to the hospital and take the money for the court costs into Nick’s room, leaving the case with the bank guard in the hall. They give the money to Mickey. He says they are clear in the eyes of the court and he hopes they never do this again. Kayla thanks him for his help. Mickey tells Nick he hopes that he will stay on the straight and narrow and leaves. Nick asks where the rest of the money is and Steve points to the guard in the hall. Nick asks what the next part of the plan is. Steve says he and Kayla are taking the money home tonight and they will deposit it in a new bank in the morning and come back with a key. Nick says okay. As Steve and Kayla leave the hospital, we see the same guy following them from earlier. Once they arrive home, Kayla wants to see the money. Steve says he doesn’t feel comfortable opening that amount of money even in the privacy of their own home. He is grateful that the guard from the bank is going to keep watch until tomorrow. He leaves to go talk to the guard and tells Kayla to go to the money. She opens the case and looks at the money inside. When Steve comes back, he sees a trail of money on the floor. He follows it to Kayla who is in bed under the covers covered in money. He pulls her out of bed. They begin to dance and kiss.

4/6 Steve and Kayla wake up covered in money. Steve tells Kayla that he's decided to accept the partnership in the Fish Market. Kayla's worried about Steve's decision. Shawn is ecstatic when he hears the news. Steve signs the paperwork. Nick offers the mansion to Steve. Kayla discusses her reservations about Steve's new partnership with Caroline. Shawn continues to shower Steve with approval.

4/7 Kayla brings Steve breakfast in bed, as they skip the food as they make love. Steve and Kayla talk about living in the mansion. They talk about whether to buy Nick’s mansion, she suggests staying there a few days, see if they fit. They make love again. Steve and Kayla find a trunk in the attic filled with clothes from the civil war era, and a uniform with a bullet in it, and an old diary. Kayla fantasies then reads a diary of Emily Matthews as the saga of Emily and Gideon begins and we see her and Steve re-enact their story.

Kayla is reading Emily’s diary; it’s during the Civil War; in flashback we see Emily watching the fighting when Yankee soldiers storm the house, capturing and taunting her; their Commanding Officer saves her, saying she should hide in her room. Kayla continues to read about Emily falling in love, it clearly affects her and Steve comforts her. Kayla is still reading Emily’s diary; in flashback, we see Emily sneaking in a secret passage. The Commanding Officer is briefing the troops; Emily almost gives herself away by coughing. Kayla is intrigued. Meanwhile, Emily is caught by the officer, he warns her against doing anything foolish. They spar and he reveals he knew she was in the passage. In the present, Steve is uncomfortable with the parallels. He and Kayla share a tender cuddle then lie down and make love by the fire. Steve and Kayla are snuggled together as she wonders what happens next in Emily’s diary.

4/11 Steve and Kayla wake up in the mansion and continue to read Emily's diary together. Gideon gives Emily her grandmother's teapot. Emily quivers. Gideon showcases his musical skills. Emily and Gideon kiss.

4/12 Kayla talks to Steve about her plans to remodel the mansion, as she tells him she sneaked ahead in the diary of Gideon and Emily, and he complains about her reading ahead without him. She tells him that Emily and Gideon fell in love in this house. Kayla then reads some more of the dairy. Emily hides Gideon from the Rebs. Emily and Gideon make love. Funny scene where Steve bemoans what married life is doing to him. Gideon leaves Emily to return to the battlefield.

4/13 Kayla teases Steve about him being more interested in the Emily and Gideon saga then he admits to, as they talk about their future. Kayla finally gets Steve to open up about his feelings on the partnership. Steve tells Kayla that he is ready to be a father. They continue to read from Emily's diary.

4/14 Steve and Kayla are packed and ready to leave the mansion. They read the final part in Emily's diary. Sad foreshadowing as Kayla tells Steve she couldn't imagine life without him. Gideon's spirit comes and visits a pregnant Emily. Kayla and Steve leave the mansion. We see Emily and Gideon’s spirits dancing in each other’s arms. Steve and Kayla tell Nick that they are going to accept his gift of the mansion. Nick sneaks out of the hospital as soon as he knows that Eve has been taken into surgery. Shane tells Steve and Kayla that Eddie has taken Eve hostage in the OR. He wants Nick brought to him or he will kill Eve. Shane asks Steve to find Nick and bring him here fast.

Steve and Kayla head to the airport but get discouraged when they can’t find him. Steve grabs the an airline PA system and makes an announcement calling for Nick Carelli to come out as Eve is in serious trouble, and it is a matter of life or death. Nick comes out and Steve tells him that he should break his neck. They tell him that Eddie is holding her hostage and they all run out.

Roman, Kim, Abe, and Shane are listening in to the hostage situation. Eddie is becoming nervous and jumpy, and Kim is worried. Shane and Roman argue over their approach as Shane is worried about Eve getting caught in the crossfire. Shane accuses Roman of wanting to go in their with guns blazing. Nick runs in and is assured that Eve is okay. Shane informs him that Eddie has taken three hostages. He tells him the intercom is on and not to give that away so they can hear what is happening in their. Nick assures Shane that he knows how to deal with Eddie.

4/18 The hostage crisis continues. Nick has called for the money to be brought to the hospital. Nick holds Eve’s hand in comfort and tells her he is sorry. The banker arrives with the money. The plan gets set in motion. After the money is delivered with a decoy cop, Steve and Shane charge in on a stretcher and shoot Eddie, but Marcus is shot as he tries to help Eve.
