DVD #17A Kayla comes home with another headache. Marina pretends concern as a tender Steve takes Kayla upstairs to rest. When Marina is alone, she pulls out the marriage certificate that she is carrying around in her purse. When Steve returns, she puts the certificate away as she asks about Kayla. He doesn’t believe her concern and warns her to stay away from Kayla. She demands he give her the log book and warns him the choice is his, the log book OR Kayla!

9/22 Glitchy Kayla and "Donna" (Marina) chat, as Steve comes home. He brings Kayla dinner as Marina is jealous of him waiting on her hand and foot. Marina observes he reminds her of her ex. Steve interrupts and tells her he has to talk to her, obviously about to tell her the truth. Kayla stands up to go with him and gets dizzy and sits down suddenly. Steve decides to go out instead. Marina says Kayla will be okay, that they will sit there and talk. After he leaves, Kayla apologizes that Steve isn’t usually like that. When he gets back, Marina reminds him of how they used to share breakfast in bed, and he used to lick her fingers as she reaches for his mouth. EWWW! Steve demands to know what she is up to. He tells her again that he doesn’t have the damn log book. Marina insists that she knows he kept it. She does not want to hurt Kayla, one of the nicest people she has ever met, but she needs his help. Marina doesn’t understand why he hasn’t told Kayla the truth, that part of the problem is he hasn’t been honest with Kayla and that isn’t Steve’s fault. Steve claims that Kayla isn’t feeling well right now and the doctor’s said no stress. Marina points out that she is bound to find out. Steve asks her if he ever meant anything to her that she would just go away and leave them alone. Ernesto is supposedly dying, and Marina claims she needs the key to make peace with him.

Kayla wants to go to the Emergency Center, so Steve escorts her. Marcus is back! Steve runs into him on the docks. Marcus tells Steve he needs to talk to Kayla. While Marcus gives Steve advice, Kayla gives Gail advice as they walk home together. Steve comes home and of course Marina is there. Marina tells him her side of the story about the night she fell off the boat and he thought she had drowned. Marina continues to beg for his help. Things escalate and Kayla walks in as Marina is yelling at Steve how they were lovers and he can’t deny that!

9/25 Kayla overhears Steve and "Donna" (Marina), as Marina tells Steve they were lovers. Kayla shakily asks Steve if this is true? He admits that it is. She shakily observes that he has been lying to her, letting her think they were strangers. He tells her it was a long time ago and is over and dead. Marina says she never wanted to hurt her. Steve follows her outside and tries to explain to Kayla and tells her that Donna is actually Marina. She doesn’t understand why he didn’t tell her before when she was begging him to talk to her. She realises that his moodiness, his silence is all because of Marina. She tells him she needs to be alone, that she can’t be around him right now. He softly tells her how much he loves her, but heartbroken she turns and walks away. When he returns inside, Marina assures him that Kayla will be back. Marina and Steve talk in the aftermath of Kayla's departure. Kayla goes to her favorite place, the loft rooftop. She thinks of memories of her and Steve. Steve makes some calls but is unable to find Kayla. He warns Marina to leave and she better not be there when he gets back!

Jack finds Kayla on the roof of the loft and she doesn't want to talk to Jack. Jack tries to help. Jack tells her she can stay at the loft, and offers to move out. Jack goes to get things sorted out. He comes back and tells Kayla he is ready to leave. Jack wants to know if this has anything to do with the woman in the car accident? A wounded Kayla doesn’t answer. Jack is trying to help Kayla, tells her what she needs to know about the loft and that Jennifer is out of town. He gives Kayla the key and leaves. This episode ends with a music montage Marina moving out, Jack moving out, a somber Steve on the docs, Kayla stares at her wedding ring.

9/28 Marina meets Jack at WIngs, and tells him that she was surprised to get his invitation. Jack baits the hook, casts the line when he asks her about Naples, Italy. Isn’t that her home town? He wants to know what her connection is to Steve? He lets her know that he knows who she really is. Marina doesn't want to play his game, Jack says he is just a reporter. He wants to know about the article that Steve looked up at the Spectator. Jack wants the blanks filled in. She turns the tables on him and his relationship with Steve and Jack is uncomfortable with it and turns it back to her. Jack tells her that he is used to getting what he wants. Marina wants to leave but Jack convinces her to stay. Marina sees Steve in her compact mirror and leaves.

Roman finds Steve on the docks and demands to know where Kayla is? Steve is looking for Kayla at Wing’s and Jack overhears and tells him that she is staying at the loft. Jack tells him he was trying to help and moved out so Kayla could have a place. Steve gets mad and tells him to stay out of his life. Kayla comes down and explains that Jack moved out and she is staying there. Kayla opens up a little to Jennifer. Jennifer invites her to stay as long as she wants. They have a good talk, it is nice to see them forming a friendship now that Jennifer is older. Kayla and Jennifer talk about Steve. Jennifer finds out that Jack moved out so that Kayla could stay there. Kayla asks about her trip. Jennifer is having trouble with the guys in her life. She went to find answers about Emilio and now has more questions. Jennifer tells Kayla she loves having her as a roommate.

Steve finally finds Kayla at the loft. Kayla gets upset when she realizes that Jack told Steve that she was at the loft. Kayla starts putting the pieces together about the wine, ect. She thinks now that Marina is back that Steve wants to be with her. Steve can’t believe she thinks that. He tells her how much he loves her and that he loves her more than anyone else ever. He admits that he should have told Kayla the truth, but he thought that Marina was dead. He didn’t think she would understand about that part of his past. She points out everything she knew about him, working for Kiriakis, Britta, ect. She needs her space from him, but he tells her that he is never going to let her go and begs her not to give up on them. He softly begs, “Sweetness?” But she doesn’t respond and keeps her back to him as he sadly leaves. He still hasn’t told her the truth about being married to Marina.

A sad Steve is playing his harmonica down on the docks as Marina creeps up on Steve. Marina tells Steve that he can get Kayla back by helping her find the key. He tells her she should get the hell out of town as there is nothing there for him. She tells him again that she never came here to hurt him and Kayla. She tells him that he can’t blame her for everything, he should have been honest with Kayla. She stops him from walking away and tells him that she can tell him how to get his wife back. She tells him that she is a constant reminder to Kayla about her past with Steve, and that he can help her get out of town by giving her the key. He doesn’t care about the stupid key, he just wants his wife back. She reminds him that she knows everything about Steve, how he feels, how he smells, how he moves, how he behaves when he is happy or sad, and she knows right now that he is suffering. She points out that she has been without her father’s love for 10 years and she might never get it back if he doesn’t help her. He tells her that he can’t. Again, Kayla walks up at the worst possible moment just as Marina is telling Steve she will meet him at the Salem Inn and is caressing his shoulder. Kayla looks at him with her big blue eyes full of hurt as he stares after her heartbroken.

9/29 Kayla stops by to visit Kim and tells her about her problems with Steve, with the woman from his past resurfacing. Kim tries to give her some sage advice that every minute she looses with Steve, that she has lost forever. Calliope stops by and offers to help Kayla by taking Andrew over to her mom’s so that Kayla can go home. Kayla has flashback to the other night of learning Marina is her husband’s lover.

10/2 Marina continues to stalk Steve and is there when Kayla arrives home. Kayla comes in and tells her to back off. Steve kicks Marina out (applause). Marina can’t believe he is treating her like this and once again demands the log book. Steve tells her to stay away from his life. She warns him that he forgets how stubborn she can be and she will be back! He warns her that he can be dangerous!

After she is gone, Steve tells Kayla about the log book, that Marina wants to make up for some bad blood between her and her father. Steve tells Kayla that she doesn’t want to help Marina, he is not at all interested in her. He promises Kayla that she is the only one that matters to him. and Kayla thinks Steve should help her so she will go away! Steve warns her that Marina is trouble and he will get her out of their lives. She points out that his way isn’t working, and Kayla just wants things to be the way they were. He asks if she doesn’t think he wants the same thing? He just wants her to come home. Kayla gives Steve his wedding ring back. Relieved he tells her he thought he had lost it and asks her where she found it? Kayla is moving back in, but Steve is clearly still in the dog house. He holds her tenderly. Later, Steve steps out on the front porch and has a flashback to Marina as he puts his wedding ring back on.

10/5 The character of Kayla replaced by Rhonda during Mary Beth Evans sick leave. Clip starts with Stephen Nichols telling everyone that MBE is resting due to her real life pregnancy.

Steve finds Kayla at the Emergency Center and tells Kayla he is going to give Marina the log book. Jack goes to see Marina about Steve and her. Jack offers to help Marina get the log book to get her to leave town. Jack breaks into Steve's and finds the log book. Steve goes home to get the log book, and finds it missing. Kayla is in total denial. Marcus shows up at the Emergency Center, Kayla gets another headache, Marcus tells her that she might be pregnant and suggests she take a pregnancy test.

Steve then goes to see Marina, who is talking with Jack. Steve belts him for stealing the log book and accuses him of working with Marina. Steve says he made a mistake when he trusted her. Steve takes it back, but not before telling Marina he was going to give it to her. Next, Vic pays Marina a visit and Marina continues with her stalling tactics when he asks if she has retrieved the last piece. He informs her that she would be surprised if she understood how well he and Steve know each other. He tells her he knows about her past with Steve. She asks how he found out? He warns her that he will sit back for a bit longer but he isn’t used to being an observer. He warns her that Steve isn’t part of his plan. She agrees and tries to tell him that Steve isn’t part of her plan either. He disagrees and comments that Steve seems to be VERY much a part of her plan.

Steve and Marcus meet up in the park and talk about their lady troubles. Marcus tells her that his relationship with Gail is over, and time won’t change the fact that she lied to him. Steve admits that Marina is still in his blood. He insists that he doesn’t love her, it is just lust. Kayla comes upon Steve and Marcus talking as he says Marina was like a drug and he couldn’t get enough, but once he thought she was dead it was over. He is afraid of getting hooked again. He says that he won’t though that he loves Kayla and won’t let anything come between them, he can’t.

10/6 Steve announces that Mary Beth is on bed rest and how much he and the fans miss her. Kayla finds the log book at the house, and thinks Steve just can't let go of Marina.

Jack stops by to visit Marina. He tells her the best way to help Steve is to get what she came for and get out of town as soon as possible. Marina convinces Jack to try and get Kayla to give him the log book. Kayla finds the log book and wonders why Steve still has it? She reminds him that he was supposed to give it to Marina. She accuses that he just couldn’t do it, couldn’t let go. Steve tells Kayla what happened with Jack, but she just thinks it is an excuse to keep Marina in his life. Marina creeps to the mansion to make another desperate plea for the log book. Marina makes yet another emotional plea to reach out to his heart. She begs him that if he ever cared for her to prove it to her and help her this last time. She begs him not to break her heart and make her think it was all a lie.

Later, Neil sees Kayla at the Emergency Center and wants to give her a pregnancy test. Jack deals with dizzy Kayla and offers to drive her home. She later tells Steve he needs to give Marina the log book and go with her to Italy. He shows up at her place and agrees to go to Italy with her to help her find the key. He knows this is the only way to get her out of his life. Neil arrives to give Kayla the test results. Kayla is pregnant and talking to Neil about their problems. Jack walks in and Neil leaves. Kayla tells Jack that she knows everything that has gone on. Jack says that he knows how hard it is for her to be in the room with him but he went to Marina to help. Kayla doesn't think that he is capable of helping and that she isn't going to forgive him for what happened. Jack tells her he didn't want to hurt anyone. Kayla gets dizzy and Jack drives her home. Jack gets her home and runs away to avoid Steve. Steve and Kayla talk.

10/9 SN makes yet another announcement that Mary Beth is on bed rest and how much the fans love and miss her.

Neil tells Kayla she's pregnant. Kayla reacts to the news about her pregnancy. Kayla is clearly having mixed feelings about the pregnancy. Steve tells Marina he will go to Italy with her. She is thrilled and goes into Steve’s arms and kisses him on the cheek. She tells him what she thinks this means, that he still loves her. He snarks it doesn’t mean what she thinks it does, and informs her that Kayla is coming with them! Steve wants to get out of Marina's hotel room.

Later on the pier, Marina tries to drag Steve kicking and screaming down memory lane. Marina tries to make a move and Steve pushes her into the water. Hurray! Steve helps her back up as a soaking wet Marina tries to remind Steve of making love to her. She tells him that she wants him. As she stands in front of him soaking wet, he takes off his jacket and places it around her shoulders. Kayla has perfect timing as usual and walks up just as Marina is asking him to admit that she still has feelings for her. He says yes he does, and that is all Kayla needs to her and walks back up the stairs. She doesn’t hear him finish that his feelings are in the past and he loves Kayla now.

Steve comes back home and tells Kayla that he wants her to go to Italy. He tells her that he should have been honest with her from the beginning and he wants her involved now every step of the way. She tells Steve that she can't go with him. He asks why not just as Neil calls to check on Kayla. Marina finds Victor waiting for her in her hotel room. She tells him that she and Steve are going to Italy for the key and Vic questions her motives. He questions whether her goal is to get the key back or to get Steve Johnson back? Kayla tries to hint about her pregnancy as she talks to him about a “patient” who is pregnant. The “patient” is having problems in her marriage and so is reluctant to tell her husband. She asks if the woman should tell her husband? He says maybe the best thing is to come right out and tell her husband but sometimes good news can be bad news if it comes at the wrong time. Steve but he is too distracted to pick up on the clues. Steve cuddles Kayla on the couch and assures her that everything will be okay and it will all be over soon and they can get on with their lives.

10/11 Steve and Kayla enjoy some time alone in the morning as they are snuggling and kissing. Marina calls interrupting and they arrange a meeting at Wings. Steve clearly doesn't want to be alone with Marina, but Kayla tells him to go. When Steve arrives, he overhears her talking about Kayla on the phone. He gets suspicious and demands to know who she was talking to. She claims she was talking to a friend and it had nothing to do with Kayla. He warns her that he knows how far she will go to get what she wants, and tells her that he will go farther. He warns her that he LOVES KAYLA and he will do anything to protect her. If Marina messes with her, he will be all over her. If she hurts her, Marina will be dead. Steve tells Marina to stay away from his wife!!! He tells her to look into his good eye to know he isn’t lying!

Nick calls Kayla for help and she agrees to meet with him. Nick sees Marina and stares at her intently. Steve notices and asks him what is up? Nick observes he has seen her come in here and meet with Jack, and declares she is up to no good. He gives Steve some sound advice, not to let her come between him and Kayla. Nick warns him not to let a broad like that ruin it. Marina has arranged for them all to fly out tomorrow! Steve storms out with Kayla as he is tired of Marina’s games, talking to Kayla about her past with Steve. Nick gives a thumbs up to Steve. Kayla has a disturbing fantasy of Steve & Marina together. Steve realizes she is upset and takes her in his arms and holds her. They begin kissing and he takes her to bed.

10/13 SHE’S BACK! She was only gone 4 shows but felt like an eternity!

Steve and Kayla are getting ready for Italy, but Kayla has some last minute business to attend to. Neil tells Kayla she shouldn't go to Italy, because of the strain with the baby. So Kayla tells Steve that she can't go, because of work. Don't go Steve!!!!

Vic gives Marina money for the trip, then puts a tail on her. Marina goes to the mansion and starts dragging Steve kicking and screaming down memory lane. Jack goes to see Marina at her hotel. Marina is getting ready to check out. Jack tells her that he knows that Steve is going with her. Jack tells her to not waste her time with Steve. Marina tells Jack that Kayla is going with them. Jack tells Marina that nothing comes between Steve and Kayla. Jack continues to warn her about leaving Steve alone and that if anything happens to Kayla he will go after her. Marina tells him there is nothing to worry about.

Jack goes over to see Steve. Kayla is sitting on her swing. Jack stops by the mansion and finds out that Steve and Marina are going to Italy without Kayla. Jack wants to know why she isn't going. Jack tries to show that he is worried about them but Kayla takes it the wrong way. Kayla wants Jack to go. Kayla is still sick but Jack leaves. Neil stops by to check on Kayla. Jack comes back as Neil is leaving, and figures his house call and Kayla not going to Ilay means she is pregnant. Jack has gone to the store and gotten her groceries. He is worried about her and guesses that she is pregnant. Jack tells her that he wants to help her and if Steve knew that he wouldn’t be heading to Italy right now. She tells him to go. He keeps telling her that he just wants to help.

At the airport, Steve meets up with Marina. Steve tells her that Kayla isn't going with them. Victor is at the airport and hides from Steve and Marina as he skulks about. They board their plane. Jack comes running in, trying to get to Steve. He begs that it is an emergency and he has to stop the flight. The gate attendant tells him it is too late.

10/16 When Marcus arrives, Kayla worries about what Jack will do. Kayla desperately tells Marcus that she has to stop Jack. Kayla runs out on Marcus. Steve wants to know why Marina had him get on the private plane, instead of staying on the plane they were on. Steve is upset and wants answers from Marina. She insists they have to get in the air as the storm is moving in. He warns her that they won’t be going anywhere until she spills the truth.

A woman (Isabella) tries to get into Steve and Kayla's house, when Marcus opens the door, and invites her in from the rain. Isabella questions Marcus about Steve, and asks if they are friends? He asks her how she knows him? Some interns come to the door and find her and take her back to the sanitarium she escaped from.

Jack gets the gate attendant to agree to get a message to the plane but there is no Steven Johnson or Marina Toscano on that flight. Jack sees Victor talking to a pilot. Victor has arranged to get his man on the plane. Jack goes to talk to Victor to try and figure out what he is doing there. Victor gives Jack a veiled threat. Jack has figured out how to get to Steve. Jack is trying to find the private plane and gets the gate attendant to help him.

On the plane, Steve and Marina are fighting. Jack gets on and Steve is angry. Jack tells Steve that he needs to be with Kayla. Jack won't tell him why. Jack tells him about Victor and tells him to go to Kayla. Kayla is at the airport, there is a storm, she is trying to get on the plane. Jack and Steve are still fighting, Jack tells him to go talk to Kayla. Kayla is on the radio. She asks if Jack told him. Kayla tells him she is pregnant but there is so much static that he can't hear. Jack tells Steve to go talk to Kayla. Jack is really trying and Steve threatens him. Jack gets off the plane. Kayla is mad that Jack told Steve. Jack tells her that Steve didn't hear her and that he doesn't know she is pregnant. Jack and Kayla continue to argue in the storm. They see the plane leave.

10/18 Kayla shows up at the Spectator and is looking for information on Marina. Jennifer shows her Jack's gi-normous file on Marina. Kayla is clearly annoyed by Jack's file on Marina, and Jack is annoyed with Jennifer for showing Kayla the file. Kayla once again misunderstands Jack's motives. Kayla reads an article about Johnson’s obsessive love for Marina. Kayla admits that she was starting to believe that he cared about her and Steve, but thinks he is just once again trying to hurt them by digging up dirt on Steve’s past.

Steve and Marina are now in Italy. We know it's Italy because there are checkered tablecloths and breadsticks. Steve is annoyed with Marina because they're staying at the same hotel that they stayed in on their honeymoon. He tells her to drop the innocent act as he isn’t buying it. Steve is trying to procure a boat and realizes that something is definitely up and accuses her that she wants to prolong this little adventure as long as possible. Steve meets up with an old Merchant Marine buddy and asks for a boat. He also gets an interesting nugget of information about Marina. He informs Steve that he ran into Marina and her father about a year ago, and they were perfectly cozy. No one was disinheriting anyone. Steve then overhears Marina talking to Vic on the phone, and realises he is involved in whatever Marina is up to. Steve doesn’t let on that is onto her partnership. Marina arranges a candlelit dinner in Steve's room. He is beyond annoyed when he returns and finds her set up. He pretends that he doesn’t want her to spend her hard earned money on him. Then snarks maybe he could enjoy it more if he knew who was paying the bills!

Jack pleads with Kayla to go to Italy. Kayla wants to know why he keeps trying to hurt her. Jack continues to push her to go to Italy though she admits she has no idea where he even is. Jack and Jennifer scope out Italian hotels looking for Steve. Jennifer actually locates Steve! Meanwhile, Marcus visits Isabella in Bayview. She perks up at the mention of Steve’s name. He offers to have Steve get in touch when he gets back from Italy. He tells her he went with someone from his past. After Marcus leaves, Isabella shakily says, “Marina”. Marcus visits Kayla, but he doesn't mention anything about Isabella.

When Steve questions the source of her funding, she pleads that she had to sell some of her jewelry. She plays it up that it was nothing to losing her father’s love. Marina cries that she got what she deserved from her father as she betrayed him. She looks hopeful when he tells her they should skip dinner and go to bed. Then he sends her to her room. She starts touching him and he pulls her hand off, sending her away.

Isabella manages to call Kayla. Isabella tells her, “Your husband is betraying you!” and hangs up. Steve calls Kayla next. He wants to talk to her before he goes to sleep. He wishes she was there in this big antique bed. She is about to tell him but then Marina knocks on his door, calling out loudly “Steve”. He opens the door and tells her to get away from him. Geesh can the girl take a hint? Kayla overhears Marina in the background and gets off the phone.

10/19 Jack brings Kayla the info on where Steve is staying. Kayla rejects his help and accuses him of making that disturbing phone call. She thinks that he is trying to make her think that something is going on between Steve and Marina. Roman drops by and Kayla gives him the 411 on Marina. Roman offers to help Kayla find Steve. Jo visits Jack at the office and gives her son a pep-talk about not being able to change the past but he CAN change his future! An escort arrives to take Kayla to Italy. Kayla boards the plane only to find Jack. Kayla doesn’t want to go anywhere with Jack. He reminds her that she trusted him once upon a time, and he would like things to be like that again. She warns him that this better not be another one of his tricks. He tells her that he will get off this plane right now if it will convince her to go to See.

10/20 Kayla wants to know why Jack is helping her meet with Steve in Italy. Jack and Kayla continue their argument on the plane. Jack convinces her to go see Steve. Kayla finally agrees to talk to Steve. Jack calls the hotel and finds out that Steve isn't there. They are waiting for Steve to get back. Jack and Kayla are killing time at a restaurant. Kayla's nervous about finding Steve, and Jack gives her a pep talk. Marina tries to make a pass at Steve, but he rejects her. Steve and Marina have finally hired a boat, but Steve seems a little edgy and suspicious. Steve recognizes the navigator and tosses him off the boat. Marina tells Steve she has to run some errands. Marina finds out that Isabella is still in Salem, apparently she was having her transferred to Italy?

Back on the boat, Steve and Kayla have a wonderful reunion. Unfortunately, it was just one of Steve's fantasies. Marina suggests reenacting the boat accident, yes please!!! Marina almost goes overboard but Steve unfortunately saves her. Marina continues her shameless seduction tactics on Steve. Later, poor Marina has a nightmare and Steve hears her cries and runs to her room. Since this is the absolute worst possible moment for Kayla to find a shirtless Steve holding Marina in his arms, that is how Jack and Kayla find them.

10/23 Kayla quietly disappears with Jack in tow, so she doesn't see Steve reject Marina's advances. Kayla is trying to find a flight back home. Jack is trying to convince her to go talk to Steve. Kayla just wants to go home. Jack is defending Steve. Jack continues to defend Steve and tries to get Kayla to go talk to him. Kayla is mad that Steve lied to her, they promised no secrets and no lies. She begs Jack that if he ever cared about her, he will just take her home. They leave Italy. While asleep on the plane, Kayla dreams of talking to Steve about him and Marina, and showing him she's pregnant. Jack apologizes to her, he didn’t bring her to Italy to get hurt like this. Jack can't believe that Steve would betray Kayla.

Steve tells Marina that he must be stupid for when he thinks about what he let her do to him. He declares it is over between them, he says tonight it is over! Steve wants to get home ASAP so he gets his scuba gear ready. Steve and Marina argue on the yacht about the key. Marina is upset because Steve is planning on diving for the key without her. Marina tells her little sob story (cue violins), and refuses to get off the boat.

10/25 Jack walks Kayla into her house. Jack is defending Steve, he wants Kayla to give him a chance. He tries to convince her nothing happened between Steve and Marina. He begs her not to throw everything away without talking to Steve. She dismisses him and he takes her bags upstairs. Kayla listens to her messages and Steve has left her a message telling her where he is.

A while later, Kayla is on her swing in front of her house and Jack comes back. Jack wants to know if she called Steve yet. She wants to know why Jack cares. He says that he wants his niece or nephew to be in a happy home. Jack gives Kayla a passionate speech to give Steve another chance. Jack continues to try convincing Kayla that things are probably not what they seem. Jack tells Kayla that people spend their whole lives looking for what they have. Kayla agrees to talk to Steve. Jack is convinced she will see it is just a big misunderstanding. Kayla decides she needs to fight for Steve. Jack declares that she owes it to the baby. Kayla goes in to make the call and Jack goes to leave and knocks over a potted plant. Jack knocks over a flower pot on his way out, and finds Steve and Marina's marriage license. Kayla comes back out, saying Steve isn't there. When Kayla asks what he is hiding, Jack tries to hide the marriage certificate but Kayla forces him to show her. She begs Jack to leave and he leaves her to think.

Steve tries to call Kayla from Italy, Kayla listens to him leave a message on the answering machine. Kayla smashes their wedding picture and leaves the mansion. Despite the storm, Steve's ready to go scuba-diving for that damn key. The Harbor Master tells Steve that he has to wait out the storm. Marina tries to make Steve jealous with some clown. Steve tells Marina that Kayla is the best thing that ever happened to him.

Marcus pays Kayla a visit. Kayla doesn't tell him what she saw but she did mention the mysterious phone call. Marcus suddenly tells Kayla there is something he has to do and he rushes out to go visit Isabella at Bayview Sanitarium. He talks to her about Steve. Isabella knows people are watching so she plays dumb about the phone call. DVD #17B10/27 Sound slight warble. Marina shows up at the door and tells Steve that the weather has cleared and they can finally dive for the key. He wants something in return from her, he wants to go with her as she returns the key to her father. Steve and Marina dive for the key. Like a coiled snake, Old Vic is watching and waiting. The search begins. Marina spots the key and Steve manages to retrieve it. Uh oh trouble.

10/30 Steve and Marina are confronted by a guy with a gun, who wants the key. The stand-off continues. Steve overpowers him, but a fight breaks out and the guy gouges Steve’s eye out and takes off with the key. He delivers it to Victor. Marina tries to help Steve but he wants to be left alone. Vic hints about the real value of that stupid key. Steve holds a napkin to his eye that is gushing blood. A hurt Steve just wants his “Sweetness”.

11/1 Steve (with bandana helping to hold a bandage on his bleeding eye) attempts to make a phone call, but can't focus on the numbers. Marina enters and asks if he's okay. Marina tells him he looks pale and tells him he needs her. Steve tells Marina he doesn't need her, he needs Kayla. It's clear you're in love with her, Marina says, but how can you be sure she'll take you back. Steve wants Marina gone, but she's still there. Marina asks him to stay until his eye is healed. Stay so a scar won't be a reminder to Kayla, she says, hinting that Kayla won’t want him back and he should stay in Italy. She tells him someone needs to care for him. It won't be Marina, Steve says. Marina leaves and Steve looks at himself in the mirror. Steve flashes back to when Kayla insisted he remove the patch so she could examine him. You love me Sweetness, he tells the mirror.

The phone rings in Steve's room. He hopes for Kayla, but instead gets Marcus. He admits to Marcus that his injury is more than a scratch and Marcus tells him to let Marina bring him back to Salem. Steve doesn’t want to do that, he wants nothing to do with her. Marcus says if he won’t then Marcus will come to Italy to bring Steve home. Steve reluctantly agrees. Call Kayla, Steve says, and let her know he's coming home. Steve tells himself he'll go to Salem alone. Steve begins packing and Marina knocks on his door. Marina says she never wanted to hurt him. Let me make it up to you, she says. Marina says she came to give Steve something. In exchange for his help, she gives him a copy of their marriage license. Marina rips up the marriage license in front of Steve after asking if it's what he wants. We have to get on a plane, Steve says. Marcus calls at Kayla's but gets the answering machine. Steve and Marina board the plane. He tells her to stay away from him.

11/2 Steve and Marina are arriving soon in Salem as Steve dreams of Kayla. Marina tries to convince Steve to see Marcus for his eye. Steve refuses to go the hospital until he sees Kayla. Jo and Jack arrive at the hospital and find out that Kayla is missing. Jack comes in and asks if he can help. Marcus leaves and Jo and Jack talk about where Kayla might be. Jo presses Jack for answers and Jack asks her to trust him. Jack tells Jo he is going to Kayla's to check on her. Jack tells Jo that Kayla is gone.

A hurt Steve arrives home, still bleeding from his eye socket. He is yelling for Kayla but she isn't there. Steve goes home and finds "baby brother" instead of his wife. Steve tries to break Jack's neck when he realizes that Kayla isn't there and thinks that Jack had something to do with it. Jack takes Steve to the hospital. Marcus tells Jo and Jack they can't put another glass eye in, due to the damage to Steve's eye socket, as Marina listens. Victor and Marina meet on the pier. She tells him that they were attacked and Steve was hurt. The key was stolen. Vic plays games with Marina pretending he doesn’t already know what happened. Victor wants to know why she is more upset about Steve being injured than losing the key. Marina still loves Steve. Victor put money into this venture to get the key but Marina says she doesn't care about anything but Steve.

Jack gets Steve to the hospital and Marcus takes over. Jo is really worried. They need to find Kayla. Jack asks Jo to trust him and he is hurt when she can't. Jo begs Jack to stand by her for this. She says that Steve needs both of them. Jack tells Jo that Kayla moved out. Jo can't believe it. Marcus comes in and tells them that Steve is fine but they can't save the eye socket anymore and he has to go back to the patch. Jo asks Jack to come with her to see Steve and Jack agrees. In Steve's room, Jo sits down and holds his hand and tries talking to him as Jack stands listening. Aw great scene with Jo and Stevie as she talks about what a rough life Steve has had, but what a difference Kayla made in his life. She gives her son a pep talk about him and Kayla making it through this and how good Kayla has been for him. He moans Kayla’s name, calling out “Sweetness” and telling her how much he loves her. Jack notices Marina creeping outside Steve’s room.

11/7 Steve is in his hospital bed. He flashes back to being with Kayla in the hospital after his eye surgery. Steve wakes and calls out for Sweetness but instead has Marina. In her room, Kayla looks at a photo of herself and Steve. There is a knock on the door and Jack enters. He wants to talk about Steve. She initially doesn't want to hear about it, but Jack tells her Steve has been hurt and he is in the hospital. Jack tries to convince her to come back to Salem. Jack explains, adding that Marcus is worried. Jack tells her that she needs to go him. Jack suggests it is time for her to go back to Salem and offers to take her there. She dallies and Jack tells her he'll be downstairs in case she changes her mind.

Marina tells Steve how he ended up hospitalized. He asks about Kayla. She hasn't been there for the two days he's been there, Marina said. She leaves and Marcus enters. Steve asks about Kayla and Marcus assures he called her, but she's not home. Steve attempts to leave his bed to go after her and Marcus has to hold him down. Marcus tells Steve that Jack is involved, that he might know where Kayla is. Steve manages to talk his way out of the hospital, Marcus reluctantly letting him go.

Kayla and Jack come to the hospital and run into Marina. She stands in front of Steve’s door as Kayla demands that she get out of the way. As Marina tries to explain, Jack gives Marina a big kiss and literally scoops her up into his arms, telling her a carriage is waiting and carries her away. In the hospital room, Kayla walks in and Steve is so relieved to see her. Steve and Kayla are finally reunited but it's not the kind of reunion Steve was hoping for. She brushes him off and turns away from him. He asks what is wrong. Kayla is distracted by his bandage as tears fill her eyes. She caresses Steve's bandage around his eye. He tells her he is okay. Kayla’s eyes shimmer with unshed tears as he tells her he loves her. Steve doesn’t understand what the problem is? He asks where she has been and then wonders how she knew about him, how she knew that he was here? She surprises him with the news that Jack told her and Jack brought her there, she says.. He is shocked that Jack knew where she was when Marcus didn’t. Kayla asks what happened in Italy. He tells her it is over. She accuses him of not telling her the truth. She tells him she was there in Italy, in his hotel room and saw him in bed with Marina. She really thought that now he would tell her the truth.

Jack and Marina are in the back of a car. He tells his driver to drive. He's taking her to the Salem Inn. Marina tells Jack that she knows Kayla knows she and Steve are married. Marina is impressed at Kayla's anger towards her. Jack accuses Marina of running after Steve. Jack pretends to be jealous that she is after Steve. Jack tells her that he will stop her from hurting Steve. Marina slams the hotel door on Jack. He enters anyway and tries to work out what exactly was going on with Steve. Marina taunts him. Jack is talking to Marina trying to figure things and wants to know when she is leaving town. He distracts Marina by saying he does want a drink and plants a bug on her phone when her head is turned. After Jack leaves, Marina calls the front desk and asks them to tell anyone calling for her that she has checked out. Marina has the key and is looking at it when someone uses the key to get in.

Steve can't believe Kayla went to Italy. She says it was Jack's idea. He said he did nothing with Marina. Kayla tells Steve he saw him in bed with Marina. This would be a good time for Steve to tell the whole truth, but he doesn't. Sigh. Steve says it was the night Marina had a bad dream. Nothing happened, he assures her. He tells Kayla he loves her. Kayla says she doesn't believe him, then mentions she knows Marina is his wife. Vic goes to see Marina and has a key to the room because he owns the hotel. It was stolen, says Marina. The scene flashes to Jack, who's listening in in disbelief. Victor laughs and said he had an expert examine the key and it was too new. Bring me the real key now, says Victor, or suffer the consequences.

Kayla shows him the marriage license. Kayla asks Steve if it Is true that he was married to Marina? Steve finally admits that he was married to Marina. Kayla says Jack is the one who found the marriage certificate. She wants to know why he didn't tell her when Marina came to town. Intense scene as he tells her he was wrong! Kayla tells him she just can’t be around him right now and leaves as Steve screams her name. Marcus hands Steve his patch and wants him to reconsider his options about his eye. Marcus wants to do reconstructive surgery but Steve turns him down. He says the patch is symbolic of his life. Marcus tells Steve to stop punishing himself. Steve is worried about Kayla. Steve wants to leave the hospital and Marcus reluctantly agrees. Marcus leaves and Steve examines the patch, saying he has to find Kayla.

11/8 Steve goes to the Brady's home, he is grasping yellow roses for Kayla. He is let in and finds Jack there. He is furious and tells Jack that they do not need nor want his help. Jack leaves. Steve sadly asks Kayla if he is losing her? She doesn’t answer him. Steve tries to explain things to Sweetness. Kayla is still annoyed. Steve and Kayla argue about Marina. She doesn’t understand why he didn’t tell her about Marina. He begs that he didn’t want to hurt her, he was afraid of hurting her. She just needs space from him right now. He promises her that he will be back. Later, Steve finds Jack on the pier and yells at him about being involved in his life, he tells him to back off. He doesn’t know what is going on between Jack and Kayla but Steve doesn’t want him involved. Jack assures him that he is trying to help Steve save his marriage. Steve doesn’t believe him a bit.

Roman and Kayla talk about Kim and Cal's budding romance, as Kayla tells him he's really angry at Diana, and needs to face it. Steve arrives back to see Kayla and asks if she is really pregnant and she confirms she is. Steve tells Kayla he's not giving up on them.

11/10 Beginning cut off due to pre-emption. Steve comes to see Kayla and Caroline tries to stall him (cuts into this first scene so not much missed). Steve argues that Kayla is pregnant and she needs him. Caroline softly tells him that this is Kayla’s choice, not hers and not his. She promises that when Kayla is ready to see him that she will. He asks her to tell Kayla how much he loves her and no matter what she thinks that he has never stopped loving her and he never will.

Marcus finds a somber Steve on the dock playing a mournful tune on his harmonica. He mentions to Steve that Kayla is having an ultra sound, and Steve insists he has to be there. Kayla sees Marcus at the hospital and asks him to come to her ultrasound. Marcus agrees but has a trick up his sleeve. Steve asks Neil to let him play the old switcheroo with Marcus. Steve and Kayla see the baby together, unbeknown to Kayla. Jack visits Marina and tells her he wants answers. Marina tells Jack that her father is dead. Jack warns her again to stay away from Steve and Kayla.

11/13 Steve is holding Kayla’s hand as she stares at the sonogram monitor. She thinks it is Marcus there with her, but Steve snuck in and took her hand and she never looked over at him. Kayla and Steve see their baby, together. Neil tells them the baby is very healthy and beyond perfection. She wishes Steve was there next to her. He tells her that he is right there next to her and kisses her hand tenderly and informs her that he has been there the whole time! She demands to know how he got in there. Steve tells her he had to be there. She accuses Neil of being in on it, and Marcus too! After Neil leaves to give them time alone, he tells her when he heard about the test that he had to be there. She is just sad that he has to sneak around now. He knows this situation is his fault and he is doing everything he can to make it right. He begs her to consider that the baby will need both parents. She tells him that isn’t fair. He asks what about us? We still need each other, perhaps more than ever he tells her.

She tells him that she wishes she could tell him that he forgives him and make everything alright. She sadly tells him that things will Neve be the same between them. She says IF she takes him back, he stops her concerned over her saying IF, not WHEN! She continues that she will never trust him the same way again and there is a part of them that is gone, maybe it is gone forever. He confesses that he was always afraid that his past would hurt her like this. She points out that he lied to her over and over again. He claims that he was just trying to protect her from being hurt. He promises that what they feel for each other is enough to get them through this and back together. She wants to believe that but she still needs more time to think about how she feels. He takes this as a good sign that she doesn’t just want to let everything go. She wishes that she could be as hopeful about their future as he is. He can’t be anything other than hopeful after seeing their baby! She brushes him off and he asks her for just a moment. He reaches towards her belly, asking, “Can I?” He kisses her belly and rubs it and tells them that he loves them both so much as she cries. He tells her intently, “I LOVE YOU!” as he leaves the room.

Neil finds Kayla alone on the pier and they have a short chat. Afterwards, Steve finds Kayla, who tells him she can't move back in with him. Kayla tries to convince Steve that things aren't the same: he's married to someone else after all! Steve tries to convince Kayla to let him out of the doghouse, but Sweetness is still very hurt. Kayla tells Steve until Marina is gone, she can't go back. Victor threatens Marina about giving him that key.

11/14 In her hotel room, Marina calls the Johnsons, but gets the answering machine. Steve is there, though, and listens as Marina leaves a message. She wants him to go to the hotel as something terrible has happened. Kayla enters the room and asks what he wants to do. Steve tries to deflect from the phone call. Steve tries to convince her that Marina is just trying to play games. He tries to assure Kayla the past is behind them. "All I care about is you and this child growing inside you," he says. Steve asks her to come home. Kayla says she's just there to pick up some things. She tells Steve to get rid of Marina.

Steve keeps talking to Kayla about their relationship and how her love changed him. At that moment, she tells him she felt the baby kick. He asks to feel it, sweet lovely moment. They hear the screeching of tires. He goes out to look and says it's Marina lying in the street. Kayla asks what happened and Marina has told Steve someone tried to run her down. He presses for more details. She tells Steve she's scared someone is trying to kill her. She tells him she can't go back to the hotel. He says she can't stay there. Kayla listens to Marina and Steve argue. Marina begs for help. Kayla leaves and as Steve chases after her, Marina hides the key in a ceramic jar. Steve kicks Marina out. Kayla says she won't come home until Marina is out of their lives. Steve begs Sweetness not to leave, but Kayla won't consider it until Marina is out of their lives. She says she wants Marina gone and leaves. Steve cries in front of a mirror as he looks at his bandage.

11/17 Steve shows up at the Bradys begging to see Kayla. She agrees to talk to him and then agrees to have dinner with him. Kim talks to Kayla about her feelings for Cal. Victor invites himself into Steve's place and demands that damn key. Steve finds out about the fake key. Marina is attacked and Jack rescues her. Jack warns Marina to stay away from Steve and Kayla. Steve gets tickled when he figures out that Marina gave Vic a fake key. Old Vic threatens Steve. Caroline suggests that Kayla and Kim should invite Steve and Cal to Thanksgiving dinner. Marina shows up at Steve's house and gives him her usual brand of theatrics. Jack visits Kayla and tells her not to worry about Marina. Jack tries to convince Kayla that she needs to trust Steve, that he is trying to get away from Marina. Steve calls out Marina on double-crossing Victor. Steve is arguing with Marina. He had opened the car door about to leave her behind. He gets angry and slams the car door, as he whirls around to confront her the car explodes!

11/20 Kayla is wondering where Steve is when Roman stops by. Marina and Steve are alive, but Steve is really grouchy about the whole car-bomb thing. Roman gets a call about the explosion and tells Kayla. Roman and Kayla arrive at the mansion. Marina won't shut up. Kayla lets her have it! Steve tries to explain about Marina. Kayla rehashes the same old ultimatum: As long as Marina is around, she can't possibly come home. Steve actually agrees with her this time. Steve promises Sweetness that he'll get rid of Marina.

11/22 Caroline hints to Kayla that she should call Steve. Kayla takes the hint and invites Steve to the Brady house. Kayla calls Steve and invites him to dinner. Thanksgiving at the Brady’s. Kayla lets Steve out of the doghouse, but just for today. Steve tells everyone he is grateful for Kayla and his unborn child.

11/24 Kayla is trying to figure out a baby name when Jack pops up. Jack reassures Kayla that Marina will soon be out of her life. Kayla goes to see Neil and she hears the baby's heartbeat. Kayla overhears Steve talking to Vic and gets all moody. Roman questions Marina about the car bomb but gets nowhere. Kayla has a checkup with Neil, who tells her that her blood pressure is high. Steve busts in on Marina and threatens her about the key. Steve tells Kayla that the whole Marina mess is finally over. Roman finds Marina dead. Roman tells Steve someone has a contract out on him and Marina, after the car bomb but he doesn’t think anyone was really trying to kill Steve. Steve goes to confront Victor about the car bomb.

11/27 Steve tries to convince a strangely wound-up Kayla that Marina is out of their lives for good and she doesn’t have to worry about Marina any longer. Roman finds Steve and Kayla and tells them about Marina’s murder. Kayla catches Steve trying to burn the marriage certificate. Kayla tells Steve that she needs to be alone. Steve tosses his Marina memorabilia into the Salem River.

11/29 The next day, Jack hides a gun in his desk drawer. Marcus is still trying to convince Steve to have eye surgery, but Steve only has one thing on his mind. Kayla continues to play hard to get. Marcus accuses Steve of punishing himself by not getting the eye surgery, but Steve is adamant. Neil tells Kayla that her blood pressure is still high and that they should run some more tests. Vic slithers in and makes more threats about that damn key. A new nurse brings Kayla her sugar water, but Steve stops her from drinking it. Neil comes in and reports there is no new nurse. He finds out that the fake solution was just an emetic. It would have made her pretty sick but he doesn’t think it would have harmed the baby. Steve runs downstairs and finds the nurse’s outfit laying in a heap.

Roman tells Steve and Kayla that he has resigned from the force. Steve is upset as he complains they need Roman at the PD as Kayla’s life is in danger. Smug Vic continues to try scare tactics with Steve and Kayla. Steve reassures Kayla that he will protect her and doesn’t need any police.

11/30 Steve brings Kayla one yellow rose. Kayla tells Steve that she's going back to work at the Emergency Center. Steve insists on going to the center with Kayla. Steve and Kayla reminisce about the good times in the old E.C. Steve gives the baby a present. It's a sweet moment. Even though there is a medical emergency, Steve forbids Kayla from leaving the center. Kayla is left alone in the E.C. and someone is prowling outside!

12/4 Someone is stalking Kayla, and Steve has been locked in a warehouse. Steve breaks into the center and scares Kayla. Marcus arrives and Steve takes off again. Kayla tells Marcus about Victor and the missing key. Steve pays a visit to his ex-employer. Vic makes him an offer which he refuses. Steve returns to the E.C. and tells Kayla and Marcus that he's going to find the key. Marcus tells Steve about Marina’s sister - Isabella, the Bayview sanitarium, and Jack. Kayla changes Steve's bandage and we finally get the "Patchman" back.

12/6 Roman catches a prowler in his house. That’s no prowler that's just Steve! Steve finds Roman's police file on Marina and gets all snippy. Marcus and Steve talking about the key. Steve and Marcus try to get info on Jack and Isabella and reach a dead end. They think perhaps Isabella knows where the key is. He tells Steve Jack knows her. Steve figures Jack is up to no good. Steve calls Jack, but is told he's out of town. Steve decides to take matters into his own hands. Steve, who has "borrowed" Roman's Salem PD Badge, is off to Bayview. He sneaks into the sanitarium. Steve is roaming the halls at Bayview, but is caught and tossed out. Marcus tells Steve that Isabella is no longer in Bayview.

12/8 Kayla passes out in Steve's arms. Steve calls Neil for a house call. Kayla's BP is 140/100. Sweetness still doesn't want to go to a hospital. Kayla refuses to go to the hospital, while Neil doles out love advice. Steve plans to visit Victor. Kayla can't talk him out of it. Jack calls the Brady house and Kayla answers. He is looking for Steve. A desperate Jack tells her that he is at the Bayview Sanitarium and begs her to give Steve a message to come pick him up. He pleads that he was trying to help her and Steve but things got out of hand. An attendant finds him and Jack uses the phone to knock the guard out and escape. Kayla decides to go to Bayview. She leaves Steve a note but when she opens the door to leave, the note blows onto the floor.

Steve tells Victor that he's going to get the key for him, but only if he leaves Kayla alone. Steve returns to find Kayla AWOL. Kayla tries to pick up Jack off the side of the road, but things don't go as planned. Jack and Isabella hide in a laundry room and escape by sliding down a laundry chute. Steve returns home, calling out for Kayla, puzzled to find her gone. Jack makes it to the “Salem 5 Miles” sign, and Kayla pulls up. She urges him to get in, but Jack says that they have to wait for someone who he thinks is going to make it. A guard catches them and orders them both to stop.
