Steve & Kayla #2 August 20 - October 28, 1986: 8 hour original edit
DVD #2A 8/20 Steve is eating at Shenanigan’s when Frankie comes in and tells him he’s got to talk to him. Frankie tells Steve that he’s going to take Max and he’s going to leave because he’s not working at the fish market anymore. He tells him he’d rather live in the streets than work for that slave driving Brady. He complains about having to clean fish, sweeping floors and mopping. Mrs. Brady isn’t happy unless they eat 10 meals a day and she has a whole list of chores that they have to do at the same time every day and she is driving him nuts.
Steve tells Frankie that he’s so ungrateful but if he doesn’t like cleaning fish then try living in an orphanage without Max. Steve tells him that he needs to stick it out for Max. Kayla overhears the conversation and after Frankie leaves, Kayla asks to talk to him. Kayla tells Steve she wants to talk about what she said about the picture of Britta. Steve tells her that they have nothing to talk about and he leaves.
Britta calls the number that she got off of the notepad. It’s Gregory’s tattoo parlor and she pretends to be “Roman’s” secretary she also tells him that she knows everything. Gregory makes her prove it so Britta lies and tells Gregory some of what’s in the letter. She tells Gregory that “Roman” wants him to fly in on Friday instead of Saturday. Gregory agrees. Britta says after she hangs up about Gregory is going to be surprised when he sees whom she is.
Steve is sitting inside of his place playing his harmonica when Kayla comes by. He tells her that they have nothing to talk about. Kayla keeps banging on the door. Steve opens the door and tells her to say what she has to say and leave. Kayla tells Steve she’s sorry about saying what she did about the picture of Britta. Kayla tells Steve he can trust her but Steve tells her that he trusts himself and that’s it Steve leaves.
8/22 Steve sneaks up on Kayla outside the clinic but she is in a hurry to get to a wedding. He teases her if it is her wedding? He is eager to find out which of the Bradys is no longer living in sin. She is impatient with him and determinedly asks him to get out of her way. He wants to know how he can help? She tells asks him to give her battery a jump and of course he responds suggestively.
She changes into her bridesmaid’s dress while he has grimy hands and an open shirt from trying to charge her battery. He jokes they are “Beauty and the Beast”. He helps her put her necklace on and then tells her that her battery is dead. She freaks about getting to the church on time and decides to call Chris for help. Steve is not having that and tells her that he will take her. She makes him promise no games as he grins in pleasure at being with her.
As Roman goes to leave for the church, he gets a phone call from Gregory, the tattoo artist from Stockholm. Gregory tells Roman that he has arrived and Roman observes he is a day early. Gregory tells him about getting a phone call from Roman’s assistant. Britta is following Gregory. Roman and Marlena renew their vows. Meanwhile, Steve goes down to the docks and has a daydream about him and Kayla, and her telling him that she would rather be with him than any place else in the world. Britta approaches him and tries to get his shirt off to see his tattoo, but he spots a body floating in the water, and dives in to get it. Steve pulls out the body and it's Gregory.
8/25 Steve pulls a man out of the river with Britta there and it’s Gregory. Britta says, “Oh My God, but I…” Steve starts doing CPR on Gregory asking Britta if she’s called EMS and she tells him she’s trying to find out what happened. Steve tells her that Gregory’s been shot that’s what happened.
The EMS is trying to do CPR. Roman comes up and asks Steve what’s going on. Steve tells Roman that it’s a friend of his and Britta’s and that it’s Gregory and that they knew him in Stockholm. Britta tells Roman that Gregory was shot through the heart. Roman asks Steve who did it and Steve tells him that he didn’t even know he was in Salem. Britta tells Roman she didn’t see anything either. Roman wants to know about the letter. He looks into the water and then jumps in.
Roman asks Steve what happened and Steve tells him that Gregory came to Salem to meet with him and that Gregory called him from Stockholm to see if Roman could be trusted. Steve told Gregory that he thought he could be and Gregory wanted Steve to pick him up at the airport. Steve didn’t get to pick him up and that the first he saw of him was lying facedown in the river. Steve tells him that Gregory wasn’t supposed to come in until tomorrow. Steve and Britta were just walking and they saw him. Steve wants whoever killed his friend to burn for it and he tells Roman that he better find out who killed his friend before he does.
Steve and Britta go to Steve’s place. He wants answers and Britta doesn’t want to talk about it tonight. Steve wants to know why Gregory came in a day early. Steve wonders if it’s Kiriakis. Steve reminds Britta that everyone that knew about Stockholm is ending up dead and that includes the two of them possibly being next. Steve is really upset about his friend being killed. Britta wants to “help” Steve. Steve tells Britta to leave him alone, as she tries to seduce him again. Britta leave but she tells Steve that she’ll see him tomorrow. Steve leaves his place because he is having flashes of Britta/Kayla.
Steve is sitting on the pier and he yells out Greg, why you buddy, why?! He hears footsteps and he runs and hides. It’s Kayla and Chris. They talk about the wedding and how beautiful it was. They talk about how identical it was to the first wedding and Chris reminds Kayla it was about the same time they started dating but he likes the real good friends better. They keep walking and Steve comes out from where he was hiding.
Steve goes back to his place and Britta is there waiting for him. Britta tells him she went home but couldn’t sleep because of everything that has happened tonight. Steve tells her to get out of his place. She tells him he needs a very good and very close friend. Britta tells Steve that they could help each other with it. Steve takes off his shirt and sits on the bed. Steve and Britta are both crying. Britta starts kissing his chest then he grabs her and kisses her as he lays her down on the bed.
Britta calls the number that she got off of the notepad. It’s Gregory’s tattoo parlor and she pretends to be Roman’s secretary she also tells him that she knows everything. Gregory makes her prove it so Britta lies and tells Gregory some of what’s in the letter. She tells Gregory that Roman wants him to fly in on Friday instead of Saturday.
8/26 In the morning, Steve and Britta are sleeping in bed together. She gets her mini spy camera and tries to take pictures of his tattoo and snaps away. When he starts to wake up, she hides the camera and he suspiciously asks her what she is doing? When Britta is in the bathroom, Kayla comes knocking at the door rather urgently. She calls out that it is about Frankie. Steve rushes to the door to see what is going on?
Britta comes out wearing only a sexy black teddy and Kayla is flustered as Britta goes to get dressed. She shakily tells Steve that Frankie didn’t come home last night. He clarifies that Frankie didn’t sleep there last night, obviously Britta did. Kayla leaves upset.
Steve runs out after her as Britta looks on upset. Steve finds her on the docks and asks why she is upset. Steve thinks she is jealous over find that woman in his room. She tells him she has better things to do with her time, like find Frankie! He reminds her that she was just banging on his door asking for his help.
Frankie comes upon them and when Kayla demands to know where he has been, he gives her attitude. She apologizes that she was harsh with him. She continues that now he and Max are part of a family that he can’t just disappear as they worry about him. She assures him that if he is hurt or in trouble that she wants to be there for him. He threatens that if she doesn’t like him not checking in that he will take Max and leave. He stomps over to the side of the pier. Steve snarkily looks at Kayla and asks if she has changed her mind about needing his help? She asks if he thinks he can do better.
He saunters over to Frankie and tells him that they are going to have a man to man talk. Frankie doesn’t want to tell him where he was last night. Steve grabs him and holds his face in his hand and warns him if he has been stealing again…. Steve points out that he promised to make working at the Brady’s work for Max’s sake. Frankie says he has been working at the Fish Market as he promised but that when he isn’t working it isn’t any of Steve’s business where he is. Steve demands that the next time he takes off that he leaves a note. He doesn’t have to tell them where he is going to, but he has to let them know that he is leaving but he will be back.
He sends him off to work, and Kayla asks where Frankie had been? Steve defends that the kid isn’t used to having anyone keep tabs on him. She smiles that he couldn’t get the info out of Frankie. Steve accuses her that she is trying to make him fit in a little “normal” box. He tells her that being part of Salem’s Brady Bunch is not the answer to every kid’s prayer.
She questions how she could possibly expect him to understand anything about caring, as he is lacking in human kindness and sensitivity. He admits that he is afraid of intimacy, afraid of getting close. She looks at him stunned at this vulnerability. Then he cracks a joke if she is available and she pushes his hands away annoyed. He tells her she can take whatever she wants from him but he is too much many for just one woman. He looks sad as she stomps off.
Kayla is worried about Hope who isn’t sleeping. Kayla fusses over her for sleeping on the couch. Kayla believes that the separation is causing her stress and is the reason she isn’t sleeping. Hope tells her that Bo is returning home today and she is thinking about meeting his flight. An upset Hope goes to the pier. Suddenly she feels a twinge and collapses in pain screaming for help. Patch finds her collapsed body at the bottom of the stairs and carries her to the clinic as she cries in her fear for her baby.
8/27 Steve carries Hope into the clinic, yelling for Kayla that he needs her help. Hope tells Kayla she's afraid she's losing her baby. Kayla leaves her to call Neil. Steve stays with her and tries to keep Hope calm. He teases Hope that she is playing a trick on him to get his company. He tells her all she has to do to get his attention is to just smile. He reminds her that he would never have gone to Stockholm without her. All she had to do was ask and he did all of those things for her.
He tells her that she has the most beautiful eyes, and brightest sweetest smile and he can’t refuse Hope anything. He reminds her of everything they did in Stockholm to help Britta escape and reminds her how tough she is. She cries that she can’t lose her baby, and he talks sweetly to her that she is going to be just fine, and the baby is going to be just fine. He asks her to think about baby names to get her to focus, as Kayla watches him. Kayla tells her the ambulance is on the way.
Steve is upset to learn that Bo is in Greece with Victor. At the hospital, Neil tells Kayla, Kim, and Steve that Hope appears to be alright for now and has to be careful. Steve asks what happens if she doesn’t get her rest? He is keeping her overnight and treating the contractions as she is at risk for losing the baby.
Later, Neil comes out and sadly tells them that Hope has had a miscarriage. Steve cries with sorrow for the lost life. Kim thanks Steve for helping Hope, and tells him that they all appreciate it. Kim tells Kayla that Hope wants to talk with Bo. Kim left a message with Victor to call Hope but did not tell him what was going on. Kim offers to stay with Hope while Kayla goes back to the clinic to get her purse. Steve offers to drive her.
At the clinic, she is relieved her purse is still there. She believes that most people are honest. He says not down on the riverfront. She thanks him for helping Hope. He says it was no big deal. She realizes that most of the time she just sees the rough side of him. She understands now what Hope meant when she told her that Steve puts up a sarcastic front but really has a big heart.
He denies it and warns her that what she sees is what she gets and there is no front there. She tells him she saw how sweet he was with Hope when she was in pain, and how kind and caring he is with Frankie and Max. He discounts that it is no big deal. She cuts him off and corrects him that being kind is a very big deal!
Steve goes back to the hospital bearing a single yellow flower, and he sits by Hope. As soon as he sits down, Hope dissolves into tears that Bo never called her. He knows it isn’t the same thing but she has him. He holds her hand as she cries ad he tells her that he is there for her.
8/29 Kim and Kayla talk with Hope, as Kayla gets her ready to go home. Hope tells them she is angry at Bo for not being there.
When Bo returns home from Europe, Steve is there waiting for him. Bo tells him he has had a very long flight and was up last night partying. Steve reams him that while he was partying that Hope lost their baby. Bo tells him he doesn’t know what game he is playing. Steve interrupts him to tell him that he is the one that found her on the dock and she lost the baby two nights ago. Steve assures Bo that Hope will be fine, no thanks to Bo. He doesn’t understand why no one called him. Steve tells him she did leave a message but he never called her! Bo demands to know where she is, Steve tells him she is still at the hospital. Bo arrives and finds she has already left. Bo asks why she lost the baby. Neil tells him that in Hope’s case it was stress related. He recommended that she relaxed. Bo says this was all his fault.
Kayla helps Hope get settled in at home. Steve arrives bearing flowers for Hope. She is glad he stopped by so she could thank him for his help on the pier. She says that he didn’t just help her, but he cared too and he really is a good friend. Hope leaves and when Steve turns to go, Kayla asks him to wait a moment as she would like to talk to him. He jokes about her needing help opening a jar. She wants his help figuring out why he acts like he does. She tells him to stop acting like a jerk. She doesn’t understand him, she sees his softer side with others like Hope. But with her he puts on this macho routine that he doesn’t care about anyone or anything. She gets frustrated and tells him that he wins, and she gives up.
9/2 Kayla seems pleased to see Steve walk into Shenanigan’s and starts to talk to him, that is until a jealous Britta calls out to him to join her at her table. Kayla gets quiet and stops talking, as Steve says, “Whatever” and walks over to join Britta. Steve listens in as Kayla talks to Chris. He invites her to join him at a concert in the aprk, since neither of them wanted to go alone. Britta tells Steve that she was glad he called her to meet.
He wants an understanding with her about Gregory’s demise. He mentions what a coincidence that Britta mentions Gregory the day before he got there, and then as soon as he did he was murdered! She denies any coincidence and says it was Steve’s tattoo that reminded her of Gregory. He wants to know what she is doing on the dock the night they found Gregory. She claims that she was just going for a walk. She wants to know what he is getting at? He says there are a lot of arrows all pointing in one direction and if he was the suspicious type, he would be looking at her.
Steve is distracted as Chris comes out bearing a picnic basket of food and a blanket to sit on and they head out together. Steve turns around and watches them depart together, obviously bothering him. Britta tries to get his attention back on her and wishes he would trust her. He snarks he trusts her as far as he can toss that “Blues Brothers Mobile” outside.
She claims he isn’t giving her a chance. He states that he has given her enough chances. He has experienced life enough to detect ulterior motives. He asks if she thinks she can bat her eyes and he is just going to lay down and take a nap? He knows when he is being conned. She reminds him that they had something good and they can get it back. He disagrees that he has never had something good!
Steve shows up at the park and watches from a distance as Chris and Kayla laugh and talk on their date. They hide under Chris’ jacket when the concert is rained out. After the rain stops, they head out for a walk. Steve watches them walk away together and then starts to make a call from the pay phone but then hangs up. Britta gets Bo back to her place and then drugs him. She takes her phone off the hook so as not to be interrupted. It starts to rain again and he watches Chris and Kayla as they are still laughing and having fun together. When Steve finally calls Britta, he gets a busy signal. Steve stands out in the rain as he feels sorry for himself. Steve, Britta, Kayla, Lars, Melissa, Glenn, Jennifer, Chris, Neil, Liz
9/3 Chris brings Kayla home and Hope makes them hot tea. Kayla, Chris and Hope head to Shenanigan’s together. Steve enters Britta’s room to find her standing over him shirtless taking pictures of his tattoo. Steve is furious when he realizes that Bo is unconscious and demands to know what she is up to. She claims that Victor put her up to getting incriminating pictures to break up Bo and Hope. Steve doesn’t believe it for a moment and states that isn’t Victor’s style. He knows Britta is just out to help herself. He takes the film out of the camera, grabs Bo and rushes him into the shower.
He takes a drugged semi-conscious Bo downstairs to Shenanigan’s and pours coffee into him. He looks like he is drunk when Hope walks into the restaurant. Bo tries to get Hope’s attention and wants to talk to her. Kayla tells Bo how disappointed he is in him. Hope says she doesn’t even know Bo anymore. They leave for Blondie’s. Bo wants to follow her but Steve holds him back and tells Bo this is not a good time for him to talk to her and to wait until tomorrow. Bo pulls away from him and staggers out of the restaurant.
Britta blows up at Steve for and accuses him of not being upset about Bo, but about Kayla being with Chris. She accuses him of mooning after Bo’s sister like some school boy, and she won’t be waiting when Little Miss Bo Peep blows him off.
Bo and Steve arrive at Blondies and Kayla says, “Uh oh”. Bo sits down next to her and tells her she isn’t going anywhere until he talks to her. Steve asks Kayla if he is over dressed? Steve suggests to her that they dance and leave Bo and Hope alone together so they can talk. He points out that it won’t kill them. While they are dancing, he tells her that this isn’t really his kind of place but he will adapt. He jokes about the slow music and suggests he get the band to play rock and roll.
Bo tells Hope that he will only leave her alone if she doesn’t love him. He asks her if she can honestly tell him that she no longer loves him. She doesn’t answer as Marilyn McCoo begins to sing, “If Only For One Night”. As the song plays, Bo makes sad puppy eyes at Hope. Steve gently puts his hand over Kayla’s. When the song is over, Hope gets up and walks out and Kayla follows her. Steve and Bo follow their ladies and stand in the doorway watching them leave.
9/5 Steve is surprised to see Kayla holding a harmonica. He snarks that he didn’t think she was the harmonica type. She says she isn’t. He tries to playfully wrestle it away from her. She tells him she bought it to replace the one he lost so he could play it for Max as it makes Max happy. She tells Steve that her and Kim are taking the boys to lunch to discuss a school for Max. He says a nice little family meeting. She asks him if he has a problem with that, and he sincerely says no. He then thanks for for the harmonica and suggestively tells her that a harmonica is easy to play, just wrap her sweet arounds it and blow. Irritated she walks out.
Kim and Kayla meet with Frankie and Max and want to discuss Max going to school. Frankie blows up and refuses to even consider the idea. He doesn’t want to be separated from Max, though Kayla reminds him that he leaves every day to go to work. Kim realizes Frankie may be concerned about the other kids making fun of him for not talking. She suggests that he will go to a specialized school that will know how to help him and help him learn how to talk. Frankie explodes that he doesn’t want him to go to school with dummies. Max gets upset over all the arguing and walks away and pushes things off another table.
Steve has come in and is watching from the bar. When he sees Max get upset, he goes over to the boy and hugs him. He promises Max that no one is going to hurt him and gets him to calm down. He tells Kayla that he and Max need some time alone. He sits the boy on his lap and proceeds to talk to him about being afraid of going to school, like it is a monster that is going to eat him up and spit him up.
Meanwhile, Frankie gets snarky with Kayla when she tries again to get through to him that he knows Max would enjoy going to school. He sarcastically calls her “Sweetness” and as Steve overhears, he grabs Frankie by the collar and pulls him up out of his chair warning him to be respectful to Kayla. Steve demands that Frankie tell Max about how much fun school is and sits him down. Abe comes in and tells Kim that they have a boy at the Salem PD that they think might be Andrew and Kim leaves with him.
Later, Kayla sits down at Steve’s table as he is eating. She asks how the harmonica is? He snarks that it is lonely without her sweet lips around it. She gets disgusted with his innuendo and gets up to leave. He immediately apologizes and asks her what she is upset about. She is afraid about whether the boy is Andrew and Kim maybe being disappointed. She comments on how good he was with Max earlier. He calls her sweetness and she asks him not to call her that. He asks what she does when she is scared? She says that she admits to herself that she is afraid and he wants to know what kind of things scare her?
She says mostly the unknown, but she tries not to let it get to her as if she does, she won’t take anymore chances or try anything new. She looks at him deeply and he seems touched and thoughtful, though quickly the snarky side re-emerges as he jokes about her liking to try new things. He offers her one on one harmonica lessons and tells her it is guaranteed to change her life. She bands on the table frustrated that she thought they were having a normal conversation, and wants to know if he even knows how to have a normal conversation with anyone! She storms out as he calls out to her.
9/9 Britta is at the clinic to talk to Kayla, and Steve walks in and wants to know what she wants to talk to Kayla about. Britta bluffs that she is coming down with the flu and came in to get medical advice. Steve doesn’t believe it and asks Kayla if Britta looks sick to her? Another patient comes in needing Kayla’s attention. He stops Britta from leaving and demands to know what is with the sudden interest in the Bradys. He demands that whatever she is up to, that she leave Bo and Kayla out of it.
She laughs that he thinks he is going to get in good with little miss perfect by saving her brother from the clutches of a Mata Hari. She asks if he thinks that people like that are every really going to accept him? She warns him does he really ever think that someone as perfect as Kayla is every going to love him? Because if he does then he is a damn fool! He looks at her showing the hurt from what he thinks is the truth of her words. She tells him that Britta is the one he needs. She goes on that Kayla will never love him the way he needs. He yells at her to shut up. She waits a moment as he calms down, and puts her hand on his face and tells him again that he needs her, Britta.
Kayla comes out and watches as Steve tells Britta that he wants her to back off and he means it. He warns her that she knows him well enough to know not to push him. Britta leaves and Kayla demands that he not behave like that at the clinic. She can take care of herself and won’t have him scaring off any patient with his thug like behavior. This seems to reinforce Britta’s words and he tells Kayla the next time she needs a thug to give him a call. He walks out and stops outside looking sad, and tells himself that maybe Britta was right.
Britta returns later and Kayla tells her she was surprised to see how Steve treated Britta, she thought they were close. Britta admits that was a long time ago and she doesn’t really know Steve anymore. Britta tells her that is why she came in earlier, it was to talk to Kayla about Steve. Britta declares that she is worried about him but he won’t open up to her about what is bothering him. Britta tells her that it probably has to do with Bo and maybe if Kayla could get Bo to talk to him, that maybe Steve would open up to Bo. Kayla agrees that she will talk to Bo, but will be awhile as Bo took Hope away and he won’t be back until Monday.
When Max sees Steve outside of the Fish Market, he pulls him inside. When Frankie saunters in, Steve questions him on where he has been. Frankie gives him attitude. Max has a backpack from school and shows Steve a picture he drew. Steve is touched and gives it a rave review. Then Max writes his name on the paper and gives it to Steve. It is a picture of Steve and a lady with yellow hair. Max asks who the lady is and Max points to Kayla who has just walked in.
Kayla asks Frankie how school is going? He says same, teachers are stupid and school is boring. Kayla is encouraging that maybe it will get better. He asks if she can look after the place as he needs some air and stops out. Kayla asks Max about how school went today? She reaches for Max’s picture and Steve snatches it up and says that Max gave it to him. He goes outside and Britta’s words echo in his head, questioning if he really thinks that someone like Kayla Brady could care about someone like Steve?
9/11 Steve comes into the clinic in a very good mood. She brushes him off as she is busy. He tells her he has a surprise for her and gets her to shut her eyes. He brings Max in and sets him on the counter. She is happy to see the boy, but puzzled. Steve declares that Max missed her (maybe it is Steve who is missing her?). He takes off and she takes Max in the back for a lollipop. A drug addict sneaks in and is hiding behind the counter.
Kayla goes to answer the phone and the guy stops her from answering and pulls a knife on her. He tells her he is strung out and needs her help. She says she can’t give him a prescription as she isn’t a doctor. He doesn’t want a prescription, and demands to know where the drugs are kept. She answers in a locked cabinet in the back. As they go in the back, Max sneaks out.
The phone rings and she tells the guy she has to answer it or someone will know something is wrong if she doesn’t. It is Roman who is calling to tell her about an addict seeking drugs and just hit the hospital and for her to be careful. She doesn't say much and after hanging up, Roman decides to head over there with Abe.
He yells at her to open the cabinet if she doesn’t want to get hurt. Max runs up to Steve and starts urgently pulling on him. Steve asks him if something is wrong and Max nods yes and continues to pull on him. Steve asks him if it is Kayla and makes urgently nods yes. Steve tells him to lead the way and they run towards the clinic. Steve finds the addict with a knife on Kayla. He attacks the addict and starts beating him as Kayla begs him to stop. He notices she is bleeding and turns his attention to helping her as the addict runs out. Roman runs in and Steve tells him what happened and Abe and Roman run out after the guy.
Steve is shook up when he sees how much she is bleeding. He starts yelling for a doctor and why isn’t there a doctor there. She reassures him that it looks worse than what it is. He tells her he doesn’t know what to do. She asks him to help her and take her blouse off. He looks at her in shock and then shakily starts undoing the buttons on her blouse and gently removes it, staring at her in stunned silence like he didn’t think he would ever be undressing her.
She talks him through treating her wound. He applies antiseptic and gauze pads, though he worries that it is still bleeding. He worries that he is hurting her, but she looks at him tenderly and tells him he is doing very well, that he has very gentle hands as he looks at her intently, touched by her words. He helps her put her blouse back on as Roman and Abe enter. Steve starts filling them in and then remembers Max and finds him calmly sitting in another room. Kayla tells him that he is her hero, and Roman says that he will have to get a big hero reward.
Kayla fantasizes about wearing a long white satin nightgown and Steve coming into the loft, He kisses her and then sweeps her up into his arms and laying her down on the couch. She wakes to find him in her apartment. He tells her he is sorry, he didn’t want to frighten her. She wants to know how he got in? He says he knocked but when she didn’t answer, he let himself in. He just wants to see if she is okay.
He says that since she is okay, he will go on home. She thanks him for worrying about her. He denies he was worried, and claims he was just “checking” on her. With a bit less snark, he declares that a sweet thing like her needs protection. She tells him that she can take care of herself. He softly tells her to have sweet dreams and lets himself out, though we can see he wants nothing more than to stay with her.
9/15 Steve goes to see Kayla again to check on her. They are very awkward with each other. She wants to know what he wants. When he starts suggestively telling her that he wants to check on her wound as he is the only one who knows exactly where it is…. she gets irritated with his attitude. She warns him if he just came here to give her a hard time? He says no that he didn’t and asks to come in. He tries to tell her that her place is on the way from his place to Shenanigan’s. She questions that he lives upstairs from Shenanigan’s, so her place is hardly on the way.
He tells her he wanted to give her something, and then hands her a gun to keep for protection. She is shocked and refuses to take it, asking him if he is crazy? He warns her that this is the second time he has helped her at the clinic, that it is a rough area down there. He knows she is experienced with guns due to Bo, and Roman, and even Hope carries a gun. She appreciates his concern but continues to refuse. She abruptly tells him she is busy and gets him to leave. Britta goes to see Kayla, claiming she is there to see Hope. Britta and Kayla then go on about Steve, and the claws come out from both sides.
Steve runs into Britta on the docks, and wants to know what she was doing at the loft. They then end up arguing and he says a lot of things, including that he could kill her. Someone with a gun comes up behind Britta on the docks. She turns around and says you don't want me dead, but the person shoots her as she screams.
9/16 Steve heads to a bar to drown his sorrows. Roman brings Britta to the clinic, as Kayla works on her. Britta says Steve's name over and over, and when Roman asks who shot her, she says Steve's name. Despite Kayla's efforts, Britta dies.
Steve goes to the loft drunk, and thinks Hope is Kayla. She gets him to see who she is, and realizes he doesn't know about Britta yet. Hope tries to get some coffee into him. After she gets him sobered up a bit, he realizes that she has bad news to tell him. He is heart broken to learn about Britta’s death. He runs out very upset. When he returns to his apartment, the police are waiting for him, but he takes off. Kayla tells Bo that Britta has been shot and she is dead.
9/17 Kayla arrives at the clinic and Steve comes up behind her in the dark, scaring her. He tells her that he has no place else to go and begs her to help him get out of Salem. He asks her if she is afraid of him as she seemingly cowers in fear. He is the prime suspect in Britta’s murder and the police are after him. He asks her if she thinks he killed Britta. Kayla shakily tells him that she say him with Britta and he threatened to kill her.
Steve is disappointed, he thought Kayla was different. Kayla admits she doesn’t know what to think. He can’t believe she thinks he killed someone that he once loved. He tells her she doesn’t have to be afraid of him or worry about him anymore and he walks out as she calls out, “Steve”. The police arrive with sirens blaring and he runs back in and begs her not to tell them that he is here. He hides in the back as the police question her.
They warn her that he is dangerous as he killed his girlfriend in cold blood. She tells them that she has not seen him and they head out. He is relieved that she came through for him and bought him some time so he can find Britta’s real killer. She wants him to go to the police and turn himself in. She assures him that if he didn’t do it, that he has nothing to worry about. She tells him that if he doesn’t turn himself in that she will. She doesn’t like lying to the police and tells him that he can’t take the law into his own hands.
The phony police return and arrest him, though he tries to get away. Kayla begs them not to hurt him. He yells that he didn’t kill Britta. They tell Kaya that she has to come with too, that they need her for the report. Frankie sees them putting Steve in the car, and starts asking questions. Steve yells at Frankie to get out of there and demands that he leaves now before he gets hurt. Kayla just wants to follow in her car but the cops handcuff her to Steve and force her into the back seat, while Kayla threatens to file a complaint against them. As they are driving, Steve tells her it is starting to make sense as they just passed the PD. He declares that they aren’t cops!
9/18 Abe, Neil, Chris, and Hope all gather at the clinic and view evidence of a struggle. Abe says it looks like foul play. Bo comes in and asks if anyone has seen Kayla, and no one has all day. Hope shared how broken up Steve was over Britta’s death. Abe snarks that Steve is their #1 suspect in Britta’s murder. Hope says no way that he is devastated over her death. Abe says that he sent cops to pick up Steve but they didn’t find him.
Frankie comes in and reports that he saw two police officers forcing Steve into a car, but no sign of Kayla. Abe reports that it wasn’t Salem PD, and suggests they were impersonating cops and may have taken both Steve and Kaya. A witness is found and comes in and reports Kayla being taken as well. Bo is worried that Kayla was taken because she was a witness. Frankie can’t believe that he didn’t realize what was going on and didn’t try to help him.
9/19 Steve and Kayla are handcuffed together and they rgue about the fake cops who are holding them. The fake cops question Steve and Kayla about Britta. Steve makes up a story about not knowing what Britta had, but her telling him where it was if something happened to her. Kayla then ask him if he's telling the truth, but he says he has a plan. Kayla and Steve "argue" about their situation, when the other guard/cop comes in, they tag team him and knock him out.
When they try and locate the keys to the cuffs, they are not on him, so they run out still handcuffed together. They find a hotel to hide out in, and come up with a cover story. They are love birds, and they pull it off so well, that the owner believes they are newly weds and gives them the bridal suite. Before Shane can let the ISA know he doesn't want a new partner, his new partner arrives - Gillian Forrester. When the ambulance Marlena was taken in stops, she escapes and calls Roman.
9/23 The "newlyweds", Steve and Kayla, are served breakfast in bed. They are able to escape before the fake cops catch up to them. They find a barn, with some tools, and Steve uses a hack saw to cut off the cuffs. Steve ask Kayla if she believes him when he says he didn't kill Britta. At first she says she's not sure, but then says she believes him after he tells her some more. Steve dreams of Kayla coming back and wanting to stay with him, as he kisses her. Kayla then comes back after it's raining outside. When she gets cold, he gallantly gives her his jacket.
Dvd #2B 9/25 Kayla wakes up to a rifle pointed at her, she then tells Steve to wake up, now, as he too sees the rifle. The farmer wants to know what they are doing on his property. Steve says he and his girlfriend wanted a roll in the hay, but Kayla says they work with Mike, and he seems to know Mike and leaves it at that. He offers them a ride into town and leaves to wash up.
Steve asks Kayla to say hello to Salem for him. He tells Kayla he's not going back with her, as Roman thinks he killed Britta. She gently asks him not to take off, She wants him to go back to the loft with him and set up a meeting for him with Roman. He warns her Roman wants to arrest him. He doesn’t believe it, and thinks Roman will just arrest him. Kayla wants to help Steve, and she tells him that if he tells Roman the truth, that he will believe him. He tells her that nobody trusts him, but just look at his face, everyone always judges Steve based on what he looks like. She asks him to give her a chance to talk to Roman and find out what evidence he has against Steve.
He finally agrees and Kayla brings Steve to the loft. When they are back at the loft, she tries to reach Roman but he is in Maryland. When they hear the elevator noise, they both hide as Mom and Pop Brady come in. They worry about Kayla, and Pop assures her that Kayla will be all right. They talk about Hope was sure that Steve will take care of Kayla. Her parents point out how good he has been with Frankie and Max.
After they leave, Kayla is saddened that she is making her parents worry and suffer. He jokes that the only people who want to find him are the police and no one will worry about him. She says that she would worry about him, and walks up close to him and touches his face. He gets uncomfortable and walks away. Kayla asks if he can’t accept that someone could have real feelings for him? He can’t, Britta told him that she loved him and cared about him right up to the day she wound up dead. She tells him that she isn’t Britta, and asks if he can’t see that? He gets emotional and turns away from her.
9/26 The next morning, Kayla is upset when she thinks Steve has left. When he comes up behind her, he comments on her being upset though she denies it. He then teases her about sleeping in and asks if she is tired from their honeymoon. She wants to forget the whole thing happened when he points out that they slept together for two nights. He wants to know if she can just forget so easily. She says yes, and he asks if that is why she was so worried about him. She wants to call Roman right now, and see if he is back and tell him everything.
Steve shows her the front page of the newspaper with his picture splashed all over it as the prime suspect in Britta’s murder. Kayla assures him that Roman will help him and straighten this all out. Kayla argues that Roman wouldn’t do that to an innocent person and how would Roman know he is innocent. Kayla yells because she will tell Roman that Steve is innocent. Steve tells her that sometimes he just can’t believe how naive she is. She keeps trying to stop him from running, and wants him to stay and clear his name. He looks at her oddly and tells her this maybe the last time he sees her, and it is time to go.
When she asks him again not to do this, and he demands to know why she cares so much about him? Is she trying to make her brother a hero by helping him put a murderer behind bars? She yells at him if it is impossible for him to think that she cares about him. She knows he didn’t kill Britta. She realizes there is nothing she can say but asks him once more to stay because he trusts her and asks him to stay please. He sadly shakes him head no, that he can’t stay. He says that he can trust her maybe, but he does not trust the system which does not work for him. They will treat him differently than they would treat her. She tells him that he is wrong, but she will go to her parent’s and let them know she is back. She tells him to take whatever clothes, money he needs. She asks him softly if he will ever be back? He says he didn’t know, but thanks her.
Roman and Hope arrive at the loft. When Roman sees Steve there he attacks him, demanding to know where his sister is! Kayla comes in and Steve takes off, with Roman right behind him with gun drawn. Kayla yells after her brother to not shoot Steve. Kayla worries to Hope about what Roman will do to Steve if he catches him. Hope assures her that Roman isn’t going to shoot Steve, just arrest him.
Kayla insists she has to go after Steve to protect him, and Hope goes with her. They find Roman and Abe on the docks. Kayla fills them in that her and Steve were kidnapped by the fake cops. Kayla did leave Roman a message at the station that she was okay, a message that he obviously didn’t receive. Hope assures them that no way would Steve hurt Britta, that he loved her.
9/29 Roman is struggling with Steve at the loft, as Hope tries to intervene. Roman yells at Steve demanding to know what he did to his sister? As they are struggling, Steve declares that he didn't do anything to Kayla. As she walks in, Steve punches him and runs out with Roman chasing him.
Hope is relieved to see Kayla, who is worried about what Roman will do to Steve. Hope assures her that Roman isn’t going to shoot Steve, he just wants answers. As Steve is running down the docks, Frankie stops him and tells him about a place to hide out on a country road out by the lake. Steve takes off.
Roman comes upon Frankie and grabs him demanding to know where Steve is. They are soon joined by Abe, Hope, and Kayla. Hope asks that she hopes they didn’t put out a shoot to kill order. Roman wants him alive as he wants answers. Kayla tells them that her and Steve were kidnapped. Hope and her fill in the gaps, and tell him that Steve had nothing to do with Britta’s death as he loved her. Roman yells that he shouldn’t have run!
After everyone leaves, Frankie tells Kayla about the place he told Steve about. She takes off to go find him. Kayla finds Steve and assures him Roman won't arrest him. He wants to know what she wants? She wants to help, she assures him that she did not tell Roman about him being at the loft. She asks him to believe her but she says she just asked Roman to call her and he was with Hope all day and never even got the message. She asks Steve to trust people. He asks people like her? He states that it would be so easy to trust her with that sweet innocent look, and her beautiful blue eyes. But he no longer cares anymore, and doesn’t give a damn if she is telling him the truth. All he cares about is staying out of jail.
He asks if she saw how Roman came after him? He knows that Roman will charge him with First Degree murder if he catches him, as they need a suspect. Kayla defends that Roman isn’t like that. He tells her he has learned his lesson, and he doesn’t have to trust her or Roman. She points out that she didn’t have to come here, that she could have called the cops. He wants to know if Frankie told her where he was? She admits yes. She came here as she wants him to come back with her. She gives him a choice, to keep on running, or to trust her and come back with her. Steve is tired and says he can’t afford to trust anymore. She begs him softly, “Steve” as he turns to leave.
Hope calls Roman and asks him to show up at the loft as an upset Kayla has info. When Roman arrives, she tells him that she found Steve. Roman can’t believe that she gave Steve a choice on returning. Roman starts yelling at her, and Hope stops him and warns him that he isn’t making this any better. Kayla explains that Steve doesn’t trust the Salem PD not to railroad him for Britta’s murder. Hope defends that Steve has no reason to trust Roman. Roman is irate as he needs Steve to lead him to who kidnapped them as this could leave him to Marlena! Steve saunters in and assures Roman that he doesn’t know who kidnapped Marlena. He also promises that he didn’t kill Britta. Hope is happy that he didn’t run.
Roman tells him to come to his office for questioning, and that he is trusting him too. Roman warns him that this is part of a much bigger game, Gregory, Billings, and Britta are all dead and everything is pointing towards Stockholm. He thinks they were murdered to keep them quiet and all roads point to Stockholm. Roman asks if Steve has any idea of who held Steve and Kayla hostage. Steve reports the kidnappers asked him a whole lot of questions about Britta but he doesn’t know anything about whatever she was looking for.
Roman allows Steve to go home and get cleaned up. Steve is shocked as Roman takes off his cuffs and tells him that because Steve trusted Roman, that Roman will trust him. Roman and Hope head out, and Kayla stops Steve and tells him how glad she is that he came back on his own. She wants to know why he changed his mind and came back? He tells her sincerely that it was her.
9/30 A somber Steve walks the pier, thinking about his threats said to Britta in anger. Chris comes upon him and warns him about hurting Kayla, and putting her life in danger. Chris calls him a lowlife and points out that his last girlfriend was killed and asks who he thinks is responsible for that and that the police think Steve did it. Chris will do everything in his power to make sure Kayla doesn’t wind up like Britta and Chris warns him to leave Kayla alone. Steve asks, “Or what?” Chris cryptically tells him that he doesn’t want to know.
A fisherman pulls Britta’s purse out of the river and throws it back in. Steve recognizes it and dives in after it. He cries as he sees a picture in her purse. Bo confronts Steve and demands to know why he killed Britta. A broken hearted Steve swears that he didn’t kill Britta, that he loved her and he couldn’t have killed her. When Hope approaches, Bo tells her to get out of there. She refuses and tells Bo that he is wrong that Steve didn’t kill Britta.
After Steve leaves, Bo is surprised by her defense of him. She can’t believe that Bo thinks Steve killed Britta. She tells him that when she really needed someone that Steve was there for her, he was really there for her. Steve sits alone in the dark on the pier, holding Britta’s picture and her passport, as music plays. He is grieving over her loss and cries as he rocks back and forth.
10/1 Steve goes to Roman with Britta's purse, and tells him that he fished out of the water. Roman wants to know why he should believe Steve and if he finds out that he is withholding any information. Steve assures him that Britta loved him and he will do whatever he can to find out who killed her. Kayla walks in as they are arguing. Steve is tired of everyone believing the worst of him. Roman asks him that Steve shouldn’t be surprised that everyone thinks the worst of him.
Steve tells Kayla about his confrontation with Bo who also thinks he killed Britta. Roman reminds him that he does not think Steve killed her. After Roman gets called away, Kayla tells him that she believes Steve. Ms Lannman, the assistant DA, comes in and she tells him that she is holding him overnight for questioning. Kayla goes to bat for Steve and warns her that she can not hold him without evidence. Steve points out that he has already been questioned by Roman and is cooperating and Roman said he was free to go.
Ms. Lannman reports that Roman does not have the final say. One piece of evidence is Kayla over hearing Steve threatening to kill Steve. Roman comes back in and argues with the commissioner and suggests that she is trying to make big headlines to get re-elected, but to no avail. Next Roman argues with the commissioner but doesn’t get anywhere. Abe comes in and apologizes that he has to arrest Steve, but no handcuffs are necessary.
Kayla defends Steve to Roman. He did his best to defend him, and Kayla says it is not enough. Roman wonders why she is going so overboard, and that one o the pieces of evidence is she told the police about Steve’s threats. He wonders what is going on between her and Steve? She just wants justice served and he is her friend. Kayla vows to help Steve and storms out.
First she goes to visit Kim, then she visits Steve in jail. He points out that she is the eye witness who implicated him. Why didn’t she just stay quiet and ask him about it? She admits she was afraid. Now she tells him that she wants to help him, but he rejects her. He tells her every time she tries to help him, she just makes it worse. He tells her that he will prove he didn’t kill Britta on his own, without her help or her brothers.
10/2 Kayla is arguing with Roman about Steve and telling him they aren’t doing enough. Steve walks in and snarks about finding the “Dynamic Duo” together. He declares that not only did he not kill Britta, and he doesn’t know who does. Roman is telling Steve that they have to charge him within 48 hours or let him go. He suggests that Steve cool his jets and wait it out as they do not have the evidence to charge him.
Ms Lannman comes in and tells them that she does have the evidence and she will be charging him. Roman tells her again that Steve did not kill Britta. He points out that if Steve had killed her, he never would have used her gun and they never would have found her body. Steve is too street smart to make those mistakes. He accuses that her political career is taking precedence and she is trying to get re-elected. He warns her off from making this case a personal crusade and warns her if she does that she will she will be sorry.
Bo overhears Victor demanding that Steve not be released under any circumstances. Bo questions whether Victor had Steve arrested? Victor says no, that Steve got himself arrested. Bo asks Victor to call his contact back and ask him to back off pursuing Steve. Bo knows what it is like to be railroaded, and he would like him to get a fair shake. He doesn’t want to see him used as a political football. Victor agrees, but as he is dialing he points out that Bo is asking for a lot of favors and those add up after awhile.
Kayla shows up to see Steve again, and he turns to go back to his cell. She asks him to wait and hear her out. She wants to know if there is anything she can do to help? He says with her help, he could be frying in the electric chair by Christmas. She keeps asking him to trust her, but where does it get him? She tells him that she is miserable and feels sick to her stomach. She tells him fine, he can let all of his OTHER friends worry about him and leaves.
When Bo runs into Kayla at the police department, he urges her to stay away from Steve. He does admit that he doesn’t think Steve killed Britta but warns her that Steve is trouble and she can’t fix him and to stay away from him. Kayla tells him that Steve has changed, but he argues that no one can change. She insists that she is not trying to “fix” Steve. Bo warns her not to get her hopes up with Steve, he has known him a long time.
Bo goes into Roman’s office and Roman fills him in. Roman asked Steve to come in and give his statement and the assistant DA booked him. He complains that she is in it for political reasons. Bo tells him that he wants to see Steve get a fair shake and to let him know if there is anything he can do. Roman promises that he will do everything he can.
Lars visits Steve in jail to tell him goodbye. He is leaving town to join a dance company. Steve waltzes into Roman’s office wearing his street clothes telling him he was told he is free to go. Kayla arrives and stares intently into Steve’s eyes. She tells him that she thought he might need a ride home. He asks if she is sure she wants to do that? A lot of people still think he is a dangerous man. She is sure.
10/3 Kayla goes to see Steve and finds him coming out of his apartment. He wants to know what she is going there? Is she there to chauffeur him back to jail? Maybe brunch but he is out of champagne. She tells him that she did not come to see him, she has a meeting at Shenanigan’s. She stopped by to give him some news but now she is sorry she did and turns to leave. He stops her and tells her that she can’t just leave after getting him all excited about big news. She tells him that somehow her news doesn’t seem as terrific as it did a few minutes ago.
She tells him about Max getting a citizenship award for saving her from the junkie at the clinic. She says that Abe is going to present it to him with a ceremony. She thought that Steve might want to be there. Then she shake her head at her own foolishness, and says, “But then I have a bad habit of thinking you care!” He stops her from going and tells her that he will go get cleaned up and meet her in Shenanigan’s and they can go together. She tells him not to do her any favors.
Mike meets Kayla wants “Patch” to mug Miller so he can see the birthmark on his arm as they suspect he is a former SS doctor, a Nazi. Mike needs him to rip his shirt like he is trying to mug him, and this birthmark will prove if this guy is the Nazi. Mike tells him the guy is coming to meet them for lunch right now. He groans that he is already in trouble with the police, but it is a good cause. He tells Kayla to go to be there for Max as he doesn’t want him disappointed. He will be there soon. She softly asks him to be careful. He quips that he is a tomcat and he is only on life #6. Steve grabs the doctor and the guy is cut as Steve threatens him. He leaves him bleeding as Mike and Robin run up concerned to treat him (gives them an excuse to look at his arm).
When Kayla gets to the PD, Max seems resistant to start the ceremony. When Frankie asks him what is wrong, he puts his hand over his eye and Kayla knows immediately he doesn’t want to start without him. He is thrilled when Steve shows up. He soon picks up that the little guy is nervous, and Steve talks him through his nervousness.
Abe gives his speech and everyone comments on how proud they are as Kayla and Steve share sweet proud looks.
Afterwards at Shenanigan’s, Steve gets Max to admit that he had a fun day. He grins and nods yes and further makes their day at his communicating, even if non-verbal. After Max and Frankie leave, she raves that he has made a huge difference in their lives and she comments on Max adores him. He answered Steve, because he shows the boy a side that he doesn’t show many people. He starts to make one of his “Oh baby….” comments. She stops him with her finger over his lips and tells him not to say it. Smiling she walks out, having enjoyed a great day.
10/7 Steve carries an unconscious Jennifer into the clinic. He tells Kayla she was grazed by a car. Kayla calls Mike to tell him about Jennifer’s accident. He rushes out to get to the clinic. Steve tells her suggestively that he is going to meet Hope. She snarks that he is sure he will make Hope’s day. He tells her to just the say the word and he will make Kayla’s day too.
She ignores him and he tells her it is her loss when she tells him not to keep Hope waiting. Jennifer thanks him for helping her. He tells her his specialty is rescuing pretty girls. Jennifer tell Kayla she always thought Steve was scary and weird. Kayla assures her Steve just takes a bit of time to get to know.
Steve arrives at the loft and sees Roman there and says he has had enough. Roman stops him from leaving and tells him he needs cooperating about Britta’s death. Roman tells him that he is trying to find his wife. He points out that if he can find the killer that it will take the heat off from Steve, and Steve agrees. Roman tells him that Marlena is being held for ransom for some missing Treasury bonds. The last time he saw them was on a pier in Stockholm in 1979.
He needs Steve’s help by telling him about what happened in Stockholm. Roman was given a clue of “Three Knives”, but Roman only told Britta the clue of three as he didn’t trust her. Steve tells him that she knew exactly what that meant, “Three Knives”. Steve takes off his shirt and shows him his tattoo. He reports that he Bo, and Britta all had the same tattoo.
Steve realizes that is what Britta was doing, trying to get his clothes off and get him into bed. He points out that she did the same thing when she drugged Bo. She took pictures of both his tattoo and Bo’s. She was trying to figure it out. They realize maybe there is some clue in them, perhaps the tattoos fit together.
Steve wants to get Bo over there right away, Roman says no that he can’t trust Bo. Steve realizes that he is afraid that Bo would tell Victor. Steve says its pretty rough when Roman doesn’t trust his own brother. Steve suggests that Hope seduces Bo and takes a picture of his tattoo. She remembers that there is a picture of Bo’s back with his tattoo at their room at Victor’s and heads over there.
Meanwhile back at the clinic, Kayla and Robin are very nervous waiting for the calvery to arrive and do something with Dr. Miller. A mysterious man shows up and Dr. Miller says he will take him next. Kayla points out that other patients have been waiting ahead of him. The guys gives him a gun and tells him that someone from the Justice Department is on their way to arrest him. He jumps out of a window and Mike and Robin find that he has escaped. He runs down to the docks and when Robert tries to stop him, he is shot. (Note: Not included, Abe arrests Dr. Miller.)
Roman and Steve show up at the morgue to check out Britta’s tattoo. They are disappointed to learn that Lars has claimed the body and she has already been cremated. An upset Steve leaves, and goes to the docks. Kayla appears and he tells her about Britta, that he never got a chance to say goodbye to her. Kayla tells him that if he needs a friend, and then walks away as music plays. Steve rips up the picture of her and throws it out into the harbor.
10/9 Kayla pounds on his door, and Steve opens the door brandishing his knife as she lets out a little scream. He wants to know what she is doing there? Kayla tells Steve she got the picture of Max from the newspaper and thought he could give it to Max. He wants to know her real reason for being there, as Victor just comes in. Victor tells him that he needs to talk to him.
After Kayla leaves, Victor offers Steve a job, but he tells him to shove his job and his money, as Kayla listens to them outside the door. Victor wonders how Kayla would feel if she knew all the time that Steve had been helping her and her brother, he was on Victor’s payroll. Victor warns him that he may live to regret this. After Victor leaves, Kayla makes her presence known and he begs her to allow him to explain. She cooly retorts, “Why should I?” and stomps out.
Roman finds Steve on the docks and demands to know where he has been? Roman grabs his jacket as Hope talks Roman down and orders him to stop jumping down Steve’s throat. Hope calms them both and begs Steve to listen, that they need his help. Hope asks Steve to talk to Gregory's wife about Britta's tattoo. Hope asks if Steve will call her, as she won’t talk to Roman. Steve calls her from the loft and tells her she is already involved and the only way to protect herself is to cooperate with Roman, that the threat to her isn’t going to go away. Steve tells her that they are on their way to Stockholm.
10/10 Later when Kayla comes home, Steve tells her that he never gave Victor any good info about Roman that he just fed him false info, and strung him along. Kayla asks why she should believe him, after all he has lied to her before. He declares because he can’t lie to her anymore. She demands to know what he means by that? Hope interrupts them as they are leaving for Stockholm. Kayla tells Steve to be careful.
Bo comes home and tries to stop Hope from going to Stockholm. He demands answers about why she is going. She tells him that it is no longer any of his concern where she goes nor what she does. He wants to know if Roman is making her do this? She asks if he thinks she is an idiot who can’t make her own decisions? Kayla offers to take Steve to the airport while she talks to Bo. As Steve leaves, he warns Hope she can’t tell Bo what they are up to.
Hope shows up at the airport. She kisses Bo goodbye. (Note: He has told her everything about pretending with Victor and they made up). On the plane, Roman reminds Hope that Bo can’t know anything about the three knives drama.
Bo takes Hope to the airport and kisses her goodbye. They promise to spend a night together in the loft when he returns. Kayla spots him and tells him that she wants to talk to him and he promises to stop by later. When he does, she is worried about him and will do anything she can to help him. She knows that he wanted to see Hope off as her trip to Stockholm could be dangerous. He doesn’t think Roman should have made her go.
Kayla denies that Roman forced her to do anything. He wants to know if Steve has called her? He knows she is worried about him and she admits it. He tells her again that Steve will go to the highest bidder and will follow the money. She tells him that he is wrong about Steve, he loved Britta and he is trying to find out who killed her. Bo worries about her safety after Britta’s murder.
In Stockholm, the wife is burning the drawings of the tattoos. Steve, Roman and Hope arrive and find she has been murdered. When they arrive in Stockholm, they find Lana murdered and “Roman” written in blood. Steve says no one knew they were coming, how did this happen?
10/13 Max comes to the clinic looking for Steve, and Kayla explains Steve is out of town, so Max indicates it is Frankie and she goes with Max. They arrive at the PD, and Frankie is being arrested for trespassing. Frankie says he wasn’t stealing anything, he was just picking up some junk that they were throwing away. Victor listens in as Abe says that he doesn’t think this warrants a robbery charge. Victor warns him in the future if he wants to come onto his property to just ask. Kayla questions that Victor isn’t going to press charges? He doesn’t and Frankie is free to go.
Roman, Steve and Hope go over the crime scene trying to figure out who is behind it. Steve tries to get Roman to leave before they are caught, since his name is written in blood. Roman wants to know who else could have known that they were coming? The police arrive and Roman tries to explain who he is and what they found. They move to arrest Roman. Steve creates a distraction and he and Hope run out. He is shot during the escape and Roman is caught. Later, Frankie and Max come into the clinic to see Kayla. Frankie thanks her for helping him today.
Steve leans on Hope as she helps him get away. She takes him back to the hotel and tenderly nurses him. Hope calls Kayla and tells her that Steve is shot. Kayla walks her through providing emergency medical care as Steve insists no doctor.
10/15 Hope tells Steve that he was delirious all night and he should have gone to the doctor like Kayla said. He tells Hope not to worry about him but he couldn’t go to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Kayla surprises them by showing up at the hotel. She immediately starts taking his vital signs as he teases her that he has no heart. She refuses to allow him to leave to go to the jail, she is determined to continue checking Steve out. Steve wants to know why she came? She declares it was because her brother is in trouble.
Hope takes off to see Roman at the police station. Steve tells her that she can’t go there, she tells him that she has a plan and she hopes it works! Steve is too weak to stop her, but begs her not to go to the jail. Kayla changes Steve’s bandage and tells him that the bullet went straight through. As she finishes unwrapping the gauze from around his naked chest, he asks her if she sees anything she likes? He then points out they are making a habit of this. Steve wants her to leave as it is too dangerous, look at everyone who has been murdered. Kayla trusts the police to find the bad guys. He warns her you can’t always tell who the good guys are, they don’t always wear white hats. He continues she is in his world now.
Roman is shocked to see Hope arrive to visit him. She tells him that Kayla arrived and is taking care of Steve. He wants Kayla to leave as it is too dangerous. Hope tells him, she can only deal with one Brady at a time and right now it is him. Roman asks Hope to contact Shane to get him out of there. He warns her that Bo and Steve will be the next targets.
Steve sleeps as Kayla softly strokes the hair away from his face. Hope returns and she encourages Kayla that she is working on getting Roman out of jail. Later Hope says that Steve isn’t so rough and tough, lying there sleeping and looking all innocent. Hope declares that Steve reminds her of Bo when they first met. Hope thinks the tougher they are on the outside, the softer they are on the inside. Bo is really just a little boy inside. Hope encourages that Steve is coming around. She shares that when he was in a lot of pain that he called out Kayla’s name. She encourages her that Steve is really a special person and for Kayla not to give up on him though she does promise he will drive her crazy.
When Steve wakes up, he tries to get Kayla to leave as it is too dangerous for her to stay with him. She teases that he is trying to get rid of her already. She refuses to argue about it, and just says she is sorry. She states that she is not leaving until Roman is free and that is final. He weakly says that they will see about that.
10/17 Kayla returns to find Steve out of bed, trying to get dressed. She wants to know what he thinks he is doing? He claims he is going to try to take a walk. She asks him if he thought she was leaving him. Steve tries to thank Kayla in a round about way for coming to help him. He could have been in a really bad way without her. Steve plans to look for evidence at the tattoo parlor to try to clear Roman.
Kayla thanks him for trying to help Roman. He tells her that he is helping himself as the same guy who killed Gretchen is most likely who has killed the other three people and Steve thinks he is now at the top of the hit list. Steve and Kayla find a surveillance camera, but have to hide when the cops arrive. They take refuge in a dumpster, and are trapped in very tight quarters and they have to lay together face to face. She rests her head on his shoulder and puts her hand on his chest.
10/20 Roman is seriously ticked off that Steve and Kayla have vanished overnight. He knows Kayla would never leave like this and he worries they were kidnapped and blames Steve for putting her at risk. Hope assures him that Steve would never let anything happen to Kayla.
Steve and Kayla walk up in each other’s arms as he softly strokes her cheek. Kayla fears Hope is going to be worried about what happened to them. Roman worries about Kayla and assumes her disappearance is Steve’s fault. Hope reports there is no sign of them at the hospitals. Roman determines that when he finds her, that he will put Kayla on the first flight home. Hope tries to warn him that Kayla might not go so easily. Roman wants to know what Hope means by that. She shares that Steve is “fond” of Kayla.
Roman rages that if Steve lays one hand on his sister that he will have to answer to him. Steve and Kayla walk in at that moment. Roman begins interrogating them about where they were. Kayla reports that they returned to the tattoo parlor and tells him they got surveillance film. Roman continues he wants her to go home as it is too dangerous. He will get back to this investigation as soon as she is gone. She insists that she isn’t going anywhere. Steve shares that he knows how to develop the film.
Roman continues to question Kayla, and she defends Steve. She tells him that he is her friend. He tells her that all of Steve’s bad points aren’t just going to go away with the love of a good woman. Roman thinks she deserves someone better than “Patch”. He tells her that real love isn’t easy to find, and isn’t easy to hold onto but with a guy like Patch, she won’t even know if he will come home at night. She tells him that she is not a little girl anymore and she will decide how she lives her life, without any interference from him.
Orpheus calls Victor and tells him that they have the copy of Britta’s tattoo, but Lana had burned Bo and Steve’s before they arrived. Orpheus demands that Victor get a copy of Bo’s tattoo that day. Victor drugs Bo’s drink. Bo catches on, pours out his drink and pretends to pass out.
Victor exposes his tattoo and gets a picture of it. Victor apologizes to a seemingly unconscious Bo that is sorry to have used him this way but this project is the culmination of seven years of work. Bo then wakes up and pretends to be woozy. Bo looks so sad at this betrayal. Bo calls Shane and tells him that he had to let Victor get a picture of his tattoo and he needs to warn Steve as they will be coming for him next. Roman fills them in that Victor got a picture of Bo’s tattoo. Roman thinks Bo is cooperating with Victor while Hope defends him.
10/22 Steve, Kayla, Roman, Hope print the film but it comes out blurry. They are disappointed but Steve assures them that they can try again. They argue a bit out of desperation to get this right. Roman insists they try again and get it right this time. A clear picture comes out and Roman identifies Orpheus. He was an ISA agent who was on a mission that went wrong. Roman worries that after he cracked, he is very capable of killing Marlena.
Steve and Kayla are at the airport. He vows to just live in the moment in this crazy world. She thinks it is nice to look forward to the future, having dreams and making plans. He asks why, so they can all get blown away? She asks if he means like with Britta? Kayla is nervous about this Orpheus guy. Steve warns her that he would blow her away as soon as look at her. Their flight is called and Kayla dreams of Steve on the way home as music plays in the background.
Bo listens in as Victor talks to Orpheus who is now back in Salem. He reports that everything is going their way. After Bo hangs up the extension, he wonders, “Who the hell was that?”
10/23 Kayla is at the clinic and Steve comes in with a bloody face. It looks worse than it is, he tells her it is just a little cut. As she tries to clean it up, he gets snarky with her. She tells him if he doesn’t want her help to just go home and put a bandaid on it and walks away. He immediately softens as he does when he has pushed her too hard. He admits that he was jumped by a couple of thugs who had a razor. She asks if this was because of his tattoo? He declares that is the only thing anyone wants from him. He suggests that Orpheus is sick enough to slice the tattoo off of his body.
Kayla surmises that Orpheus is back in Salem. Steve observes, “And guess who is on the top of his shopping list?” Kayla suggests that he have the tattoo removed so Orpheus would leave him alone. He can always take a picture of it to have, but get the tattoo off of his body. He disagrees that it would be a LOT easier to steal a picture than get his tattoo off of his body.
Kayla demands to know why he is being so stubborn. A bit jealous, she asks if this is because it is his last link to Britta? If that is why it has special meaning? He gets upset and tells her the tattoos were supposed to mean “Three together, together forever!”. But he has learned that nothing is forever, nothing!
Frankie and Max show up at Steve’s but he isn’t there, yet the door is unlocked. Frankie tells Max to go straight home as he has some things to do. Max goes back to Steve’s apartment. Steve returns to find him there, wearing one of Steve’s eye patches. He grabs the patch off of Max and sternly tells him that he never wants to catch him wearing that ugly thing ever again. Steve realizes that he wants to be like him. He tells him him he is tired of his “quiet act” and wearing the patch is a stupid idea. He gets worked up and yells at him that he wants him to answer him.
Kayla comes running in and tells him how dare he yell at a little boy like that. Steve won’t let her get near him, he tells her that he knows what he is doing and asks her to trust him. Steve tells Max that he is tired of his “jive” and and to get out of here, that Steve doesn’t want to see him anymore. Went Max doesn’t want to leave, Steve says that he will and pushes a protesting Kayla up the stairs.
He runs up the stairs and catches Kayla’s hand. Steve pulls Max away from her, and carries him back down the stairs telling him that if he won’t talk, and wants to wear that ugly patch that he can just stay there. He follows them outside and as Steve is dragging Kayla away as she begs him to stop, Max yells out, “STOP! Don’t go!” Steve is touched that it worked. He runs up to him and grabs him and tells him that he knew he could do it, he just needed a good reason.
Kayla realizes that Steve understands the boy. Steve tells him that he is sorry he had to yell at him like that, but Max knows he was trying to help him. Steve asks him to say something else and sweet little guy melts his heart even further, “I love you Steve!”. Steve pulls him into his arms and tells him, “I love you too!” He takes him inside to share some hot chocolate and celebrate. Unfortunately, Orpheus has heard everything from his hiding spot.
10/24 Kayla runs into Steve’s at Shenanigan’s and tells him that she talked to Frankie that morning and Max is answering questions. She tells him that what he did yesterday was really wonderful and she thinks they deserve a real celebration, just the two of them. She invites Steve to have dinner with her at the loft. He can’t believe she cooks too. She isn’t making any promises but it will be edible and she thinks it will be fun. He agrees to meet her at 7:00.
On her way out as Steve watches, Chris confirms with her that they are going to a ballgame next week. After she leaves, he lectures Steve that Kayla lives in a different world than Steve does. He wants him to back off. Steve says that everyone in Salem has become a member of the stay away from Kayla club. Steve tells him this is none of his business. Chris reminds him that Kayla is a very special lady and a friend and that makes it his business. Steve asks if Kayla doesn’t have a say in any of this.
Chris says that Kayla always sees the good in people and none of the bad. Steve attracks trouble and that is a fact and Kayla deserves better. Chris tells him that underneath Steve’s big chip on his shoulder, he senses that there is a good man. He asks that good man to stay away from Kayla while he has business to take care of. Steve tells him that Kayla would not appreciate her so called good friends talking about her behind her back. Chris asks him to think about what he said.
Kayla goes into a flower shop to buy some flowers for a center piece. Steve comes in and she ducks out of sight. He starts off asking for a single yellow rose, and then says this lady is very special so maybe he should get two. The florist shows him a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses and baby’s breath and suggests that if she is that special how about this? After he leaves, Kayla tells the lady that she won’t be needing a flower arrangement for tonight. The lady says all right but flowers make an evening more romantic. Kayla says to herself softly, “Something tells me my evening is going to be very romantic”.
At home, Kayla is cooking and preparing for her evening as Steve is doing his best to clean up, even to the point of shaving. Kayla is wearing a gorgeous black sequined evening dress and lights the candles. When the power goes out, she lights a lantern. She imagines Steve showing up bearing the flowers and looking quite handsome, and kissing her for the first time.
Meanwhile, Chris’ words echo in Steve’s head as he sits and fumes about whether or not to go. Kayla is waiting for him, wondering where he is. He finally grabs the flowers and heads out the door obviously torn about showing up.
10/27 When Kayla answers the door, decked out in a black evening dress, she sees an arm bearing a bottle of champagne but is disappointed find it is Bo. She wants to know what he is doing there? Bo gives her the champagne and pretends that he thinks it is her birthday. She knows he is there looking for Hope. He admits that she caught him trying to patch things up with Hope. He starts questioning her on who she is all dressed up for. He isn’t happy to learn she is waiting for Steve to arrive.
Bo warns her away from Steve that he isn’t the guy she thinks he is. She reminds him that Steve is a friend of his. He tells her that Steve has changed and isn’t the person he once was. Kayla kicks him out. He points out that Steve has already kept her waiting all night without the courtesy to be on time or call.
Bo finds Steve outside carrying a bouquet of yellow flowers. Bo snarks that no one is going to buy his act. He warns Steve again to stay away from Kayla, this time he asks him to please stay away from her. Bo tells him that Kayla doesn’t understand the world Steve comes from, that she is innocent and doesn’t understand the kind of person Steve is.
Bo knows he is nothing but trouble for her and is only going to hurt her. He asks if Steve has any decency left over in him from the old days that he will walk away. Bo leaves, Steve lingers by the door, drops his flowers on her doorstep and then leaves, as Kayla sits alone inside waiting for him.
Hope calls and Kayla knows she was calling to see if Bo was there. She admits she was, Kayla assures her that Bo has gone and so she can come home. Hope tells her she will stay out for awhile this evening.
A woman, Florence, approaches Steve at the Cheatin’ Heart as he downs a couple of shots. She observes that she can always tell when someone has a broken heart. She offers him a discount on her services, she will give him the rate she gives her “steadys”. He agrees and she promises to make him real happy tonight. Kayla calls Steve but he doesn’t answer, so she heads over to his place. Outside, she sees him kissing Florence and runs back to her place.
10/28 Bo follows Kayla into the loft and asks her what is wrong? He say her tearing through Shenanigan’s and followed her in case she needs anything? She tearfully admits that dinner didn’t work out and hopes he is happy. He is sorry, he did not come up here to say he told her so. He holds her and comforts his miserable sister.
