DVD #20A 8/16 Glitchy. Kayla runs into Bo at the pier and invites him to go with her to the community meeting at the Fish Market. Jack overhears a reporter come up and asks Kayla what she thinks of Jack Deveraux of killing his father.

8/21 Nick threatens Carly on the docks. Bo comes along and tells him if he wants a fight to take it up with him. As Nick and Bo start to fight, Steve comes along and breaks it up. Steve reminds them he is a cop now and threatens to arrest them for disturbing the peace. Bo suggests he take Nick in for assaulting and threatening Carly. She steps forward and starts yelling at Nick about forcing people from their homes.

Steve finds Nick having a drink at the bar. Nick is snarking about Steve having it all, a home and a family. Steve points out the home was a gift from Nick. Nick is tired of being burned and going to go back to what he knows, money and power. Steve thinks this has to do with April, and Nick starts throwing things around at the mention of her name.

8/22 Kayla hears Shane and Nick talking about stopping the protesters. When Jack reads the kind things Kayla said in the paper about him, he thinks Steve is behind it, but Steve insist it was all Kayla's doing. Jack goes on to tell Steve he has dumped Jen, as Vern comes over about the tape, and how he knows Jack is worried about Jen. After Nick leaves, Shane tells Kayla she can come out of hiding, as she is shocked by what she has overheard, and asked what has happened to him, unaware he's working undercover. Jack fills in Steve about Jen's story on the missing Katarina, and Steve offers to help. Jen goes to see Jack about them, as he carries her to the bed. Steve meets with Shane about Jencon, and knows he's up to something.

8/24 Jack arrives to see Steve, as he tries to tell Steve that Jennifer has left town and he is pretending to be happy with it. He tries to tell his brother that his relationship with Jennifer is over, as she finally heard what he had to tell her about why they wouldn’t work. Steve tells him the tape is a phony and done with actors, and Jennifer faked this tape. Steve warns him that he is losing the best thing that ever happened to him.

Kayla and Adrienne are at the beach as Adrienne holds baby Stephanie. Kayla tells her that she thinks adopting JJ’s baby is a great idea. Adrienne is nervous about whether they would be good enough parents, and Kayla assures her that she will be a great mother, and her and Justin will be great parents.

8/28 Jack runs into Kayla at the hospital and tells her about Shawn D. falling down a hole at the construction site. Upset, she hugs Jack. He reassures her that they are working to free the boy and he should be fine. She wants to go to the site to be there for Bo but she doesn’t have her car. Jack offers to drive her. Once there, Jack handles the press as Kayla watches. Tom observes what a good job he is doing. Kayla says she realizes how much Jack has changed. Later, Kayla tells Jack that Steve is on his way. Jack is going to take off as the press have their evening news scoop. She thanks him for everything he did today to help.

8/29 Steve has arrived at the construction site and reassures Kayla that everything is going to be alright. She tells Steve how much she loves her nephew and got a chance to spend time with him while his parents were on the cruise. As the press harass Bo, Steve flashes his badge and chases them away. Bo comes out to the fence to update all the family that the drill bit broke off when it hit a boulder and they have to wait for a new drill bit. Steve goes over to talk to Bo and tries to reassure him that it is good news they can start drilling again. Bo worries that Shawn will be hurt during the rescue. Bo wants to know how Steve held it together in Australia while he was searching for Stephanie. Steve says he wasn’t holding it together inside, he was never so scared in his life. He urges Bo not to give up.

Kayla and Steve watch as Carly is going to go down in the hole to rescue the boy at the risk to her own life. Kayla observes that it is comforting that everyone is pulling together to help. She tells him about Jack coming down today and helping out. Kayla misses having Shane and Kim around during a family crisis. Steve points out that Kim would be here if she could. Kayla was hoping Shane would come around, but then snarks that he must be too involved with his business investments. Shane soon shows up and tells her he is there for his nephew and the Bradys, NOT JENCON. Kayla asks him not to tell the family about his involvement with JENCON.

Kayla walks away to check on Caroline, and Steve approaches him. He asks him quietly if he thinks he should be there? Shane believes this won’t jeopardize his case, and he had to be there for the family. Steve confronts Nick on his support of JENCON and asks him if he believes everything he has been shovelling. Nick is worried about his investment, and Steve can’t believe when Bo’s little boys life is at risk that Nick is worried about losing money.

8/30 Shawn-Douglas is pulled out of the hole, as Neil and Kayla check him over. As Kayla talks to him, the boy is non-responsive. Bo asks Kayla what they aren’t telling him? Carly tells Bo Shawn-Douglas can't hear. Kayla agrees that it may only be temporary. Kayla and Steve go to update the family that Shawn D. Is being taken to the hospital by ambulance and all the family head to the hospital. Steve knows that everyone will do everything they can to help them and he points out that the boy is lucky to have Kayla as she is the best person to help him, she knows what he is going through. Once they are at the hospital, Tom tells everyone that Shawn D. Is stable now and recommends everyone go home and get some rest.

9/4 Benji and Peggy arrives surprising Steve. Kayla tells Benji about Shawn D. losing his hearing. Kayla, Steve and Benji are walking along the pier and run into Bo on their way to the hospital. Kayla asks Bo to go ahead and she will meet them at the hospital. She sits by her brother as he tells her that Shawn pushed him away. He was crying for his mama and there was nothing Bo could do for him. He went into Carly’s arms and she comforted him. Kayla points out that he is just scared. Kayla reminds Bo of a time when she was a child and the kids at summer camp were teasing her and he was her hero when he stood up to the whole group. Kayla and Steve and Benji visit Shawn-Douglas in the hospital. When Carly goes to leave, Shawn D. cries for her to stay and she agrees. Steve talks to Carly privately and he tells her that they appreciate what she is doing for the boy. He tells her that he hopes she stays around, as she seems surprised by this welcome.

9/12 Steve comes in and tells Kayla that Stephanie is asleep. He snaps his fingers to get her attention and asks if she was day dreaming? She tells him she would shock him. If laughs and reminds her that it would hard to shock him after everything they have been through together. She suggests that they leave town and recaps everything they have been through recently and they didn’t even get a honeymoon. She points out that they can’t possibly take time off with him at the new job and her just getting back to work. The next hurdle is finding the money and he suggests that they sell this old house. Now it is her turn to be shocked as he tells her they could take a year or even two years off and travel the world. She loves the idea and immediately picks up the phone to see if this is even possible. He tells her that for them, anything is possible.

Jack shows up at Steve’s and tells him that he needs his help with something. He hands him a crystal goblet, it has Werner’s fingerprints. He asks Steve to run the prints as Jack has a feeling this guy is a big time criminal. Steve jokes as Jack warns him this guy is bad news. Steve agrees to check it out. When he mentions Jennifer was the source of the goblet, Steve comments on how Jack continues to say he doesn’t care about her yet he is always babbling about her. He demands that Jack just admit that he cares about her. Jack denies of course and says they are not in a relationship, that is over. Steve smirks that he tried to break up with Kayla at least a 100 times as he thought he was doing her a favour. Steve advises that sometimes a woman isn’t going to take no for an answer. Steve gives Jack a pep talk about believing in himself. Steve points out look what he has been able to make of his life, a job, a home, a family. Jack realizes when he needs advice that he comes to Steve, and he always seems to know how his brain works.

Kayla runs into her mom on the dock, she shares a letter from Kimmy and a picture of the new baby. Caroline is sorry not to be there for Kimmy and the baby, she hates that she is all alone. Kayla loved having her around when Stephanie was born. Caroline observes there is a special relationship between mother and daughter. As Caroline raves about how important family is and having family around, Kayla folds away the travel brochures she is holding. Steve shows up at the PD to ask Roman for some time off. Roman agrees that they sure deserve some time away. He pleads with Steve that he needs his help on this JENCON case, he needs Steve’s street smarts that other cops don’t have, his ability to read people. Steve agrees as he doesn’t want to see anyone else get hurt like Shawn D. did. Roman wishes him good luck. Steve queries, “With the case or telling Kayla the trip is off?”

Back home, an excited Kayla comes in rattling off all the destinations they could go to.. Hawaii, Tahiti… Then she notices his lack of enthusiasm. He tells her about working this case and afterwards they will sell the house and travel. She understands and kisses him intently.

9/13-9/17 n/a 9/18 Steve reads a newspaper article about the Riverfront Raider striking again. Steve is not looking forward to questioning people like Carly Manning. She is at all of the rallies making noise. Kayla and Marcus treat a boy with a cut. He asks her about Steve as he hasn’t heard from him, no calls, he doesn’t write. Kayla tells him that he is pretty busy with the Riverfront Raider case and will be questioning Carly today. She shocks him when she informs him that when Steve finishes this case they will be leaving Salem! Kayla finds a somber Marcus outside staring off into the distance. He admits that he can’t imagine life without her and Steve in Salem (aww he looks SO sad).

Steve finds Carly on the pier and wants to ask her about the Riverfront Raider, as Bo listens in. She doesn’t have any leads for him as she has been thinking about it, if she has any clues or information. After she leaves, Steve tells Bo that he thinks she is hiding something. Steve sits next to Bo on the boat and tells him that something is off with Carly. Bo shares that Carly is good with Shawn D. and the kid has been through enough lately. Steve hopefully suggests that maybe she doesn’t have anything to do with the Riverfront Raider, but he doesn’t sound all that hopeful. Bo tells Steve how much he has changed. Once upon a time, Steve would be with the Riverfront Raider not looking to stop it. He tells Bo that once this case is over, that he and Kayla are going to take off and travel. Bo looks gut punched. He complains that he just got back and now Steve is taking off and he hasn’t even had a chance to see them. Steve teases that he is going to miss him too. Bo admits that he has been looking forward to just hanging out, going out for a couple of beers. Steve says they have plenty of time to do that. Bo says he can’t though right now, he can’t leave Shawn D. Steve asks if he is still having nightmares. Bo says he needs the surgery soon but he doesn’t want to go back to the hospital. Steve suggests they go camping up in Green Oaks, little dude likes camping. Bo loves the idea. Steve has to leave as he is on duty. Bo laughs at the idea of Steve being a cop.

Back home, Steve fills Kayla in on the camping trip. Kayla says it is a good idea to make plans to see everyone and spending time with people before they leave. Steve can’t wait to just be with his two girls as he kisses them both.

9/21 Bo visits Kayla and thumbs through her travel brochures. He is excited by Alaska, and she points out Hawaii and Tahiti and as they want to see the world. He is surprised by how involved the trip is and asks her if she really wants to do this? She says yes she does, then it doesn’t matter what he or anyone else thinks. He wouldn’t trade the memories he has of traveling with his family for anything. They are going to sell the house and come back when the money runs out. She says there is just one problem? He guesses mom and pop? She wants his help in telling them just the right way as he groans and says no way.

Steve comes in and announces that they just got a big break in the Raider case as Bo looks seriously concerned. Kayla asks why doesn’t he seem happy about it? Steve looks at Bo and says no he is not. She asks if Carly was still a suspect and he says no, she is not, they have a brand new suspect. They make plans to go camping that night. Steve and Kayla go upstairs to tend to a crying Stephanie. Bo comes back in as her forgot his helmet. He overhears Steve and Kayla talking on the baby monitor. She asks him about the case and he doesn’t like it as he understands the motives but it is against the law. They have a line on the girl who rented the boat that rammed JENCON’s tanker, she could be a waitress at the “Cheating Heart”. Bo tells Emmy that she has to leave town and gives her some money. He tells her she has to get out of here.

He returns to Kayla’s with Shawn D. Later to go camping. Carly calls and asks him to come over right away, she tells him it is important but she can’t talk to him about it over the phone. He has Shawn D. go with Steve and Kayla and tells them he has to go meet with someone. After the kids are in bed, they sit in front of the fire. She worries about Bo and wishes he would get there. She sets her marshmallow on fire and declares that they should take a bag of marshmallows with them. He recommends to put it on the list. She laughs at how long the list is getting but he points out that they deserve it after the year they had. They eat marshmallows and then have ooey gooey kisses as she giggles and then it turns into serious making out.

9/25 The next morning, Steve and Kayla return home. Kayla worries about Bo. His message said he couldn’t make it for business and that doesn’t sound like Bo. They enjoyed their time away and revel together in their upcoming trip just time for the two of them to be alone together. She suggests they break out some more marshmallows. Steve laughs that he wants “S’more” of her kisses and they start making out until Shawn D. Interrupts asking about his papa. Kayla doesn’t understand what could have happened with Carly to keep Bo away and disappoint his son. Steve says he will go over there and check up on Bo and see what is going on.

Real estate lady comes over with a good offer on the house. Kayla seems happy, and Marcus pipes in and says it seems low and they will look it over and get back to her. After the agent leaves, Kayla calls Marcus out that this was a good offer. He declares this house is worth much much more. Kayla knows he is upset that Steve is leaving as they are as close as brothers. He admits it isn’t just Steve that he is going to miss, but her as well. He takes a walk down memory lane with her when they met and she pulled a gun on him, not as sick as she made out to be. He tells her she has been making him smile ever since.

He has watched her deal with so many situations with grace, courage, and strength. He laments his failed romantic relationships, and she encourages him that he will find the right person but he knows finding someone like Kayla will be difficult. She tells him how special he is to her and she thinks she will miss him most of all (more than her mama? More than her brothers?). Steve shows up at the bar looking for info on Emme. Bo comes in and Steve questions what was so important with Carly to keep him away. Bo assures him that there is nothing person between him and Carly. After Bo heads out, the bartender asks Steve if Bo gave him the info he was looking for on Emme? He informs Steve that Bo is a friend of Emme’s.

When Steve returns home, Kayla tells him about the offer on the house. She asks him if he has any leads on the raider case? He says he does but he doesn’t like where the case is taking him. A reluctant Steve calls to get a search warrant. 9/27 Steve laughs at how much Kayla packs for a trip to the park. He wonders how she is going to pack for a trip around the world. She continues to worry about telling her parents. She observes that he hasn’t seemed to happy lately about the trip. He is distracted by the Riverfront Raider case, and admits that his heart isn’t in busting the person as he doesn’t think what they are doing is all that bad. He does want to catch the person before he gets in too deep. Kayla thinks he is starting to care about this guy. He says he is trying to stop him from getting in any deeper. She encourages him to take his leave now, but Steve says he can’t leave this case. Brian shows up and quietly gives Steve the search warrant he requested.

Jo is looking forward to the holidays and Steve has to burst her bubble that he and Kayla won’t be with her on Christmas. She thinks he means that they will be spending it with the Bradys. He tells her that he and Kayla are leaving town and will be traveling and he is sorry to disappoint her. He hugs her and promises that it will take more than miles to keep them apart as Jo is obviously teery eyed and disappointed. She hopes that Billy gets back from his trip before Jack leaves. She declares that it means so much to her that he and Jack have become friends. He corrects that they are brothers.

Kayla is talking to her parents in the park. She has given them the news of their trip and they try to hide their disappointment and support her and Steve being happy together. Pop looks on the bright side that they won’t be gone forever. Kayla starts the rally against JENCON informing everyone about Shawn D.’s accident and she doesn’t want the community to forget as she doesn’t want to see anyone else get hurt. When Justin shows up, Shawn Sr. yells at him for being there. Justin argues that JENCON isn’t trying to hurt anyone. Kayla points out Shawn Douglas can’t hear because of JENCON. He argues in favour of the refinery and tempers flare with Shawn Sr among the loudest. Carly interrupts the yelling back and forth. Carly defends Adrienne and Justin as being her friends and they are good people, they just got involved in this. Carly continues to campaign against JENCON.

Steve conducts the search warrant on Emme’s place. Then he meets Chuck (the bartender) down at the pier. He asks him if he saw Emme & Bo together around Labor Day. He then gets a positive ID that Emme is the person who rented the boat that rammed the JENCON tanker. Steve and Kayla meet up in the park and compare notes on telling their parents. Kayla tells him about the rally and she gets so upset with JENCON that she can almost see herself doing something like the raider. Steve agrees.

9/28 Carly is being harassed by some construction workers on the pier. They threaten her to keep her mouth shut and then toss her to the ground as Steve and Kayla come running up to check on her. Steve wants to know if she can identify the goons who attacked her. She confirms they were construction workers for AJ Construction (Justin & Adrienne’s company), but she knows they didn’t have anything to do with this.

The Bradys gather at the hospital as Shawn D is about to go into surgery. Steve tells Roman about Carly being attacked on the pier and Roman tells him that his source, “Chuck” is asking for Steve and he rushes out. Kayla tells Shane about their planned extended trip to see the world or until their money runs out. Sad Shane tells her about Kimberly having a baby girl. Kayla tells him how much they will miss him and he will always be family. He finds Chuck on the pier who has remembered that night Emme got a call from Bo Brady and she rushed out on her shift. Steve finds Bo at AJ Construction and tells him that he has evidence that will lead to an arrest. He asks if he knows Emme, the waitress at the Cheating Heart, that she is the Riverfront Raider and Steve will put her behind bars where she belongs. Bo tells him he can’t do that as she isn’t the raider, Bo is!

10/1 Bo tells Steve he is the riverfront raider, so Steve can do what he has to do. Steve points that this isn’t a game and reminds Bo that he has a little boy in the hospital that needs him. Bo realised he could get caught. Steve says he understands what Bo was trying to do but he just went about it the wrong way. He says this isn’t about the environment but accuses Bo of trying to get revenge. Bo blames JENCON for Shawn D losing his hearing and he is determined to make them pay. Steve tells him that sabotage is the wrong way to go. Bo snarks that he has sure changed his tune now that he has a badge. Steve defends that he thinks of Stephanie and making the world a better place for her. He warns Bo that he is going to be dead if he continues with this. Bo says he won’t let them get away with murder.

Surprised Steve asks if this is about Hope? He knows Bo blames himself for Hope’s death, and Bo admits that he also blames himself for Shawn D’s accident. Bo refuses to allow JENCON to proceed with their master plan. Steve asks if there is more at issue than the refinery? Bo hands him some paperwork and warns him he will understand after he reads this, just as Justin enters his office to find them both there. Justin demands to know what they are doing there? Steve covers and says that Bo was walking by and saw a trespasser and called Steve. He reports that he didn’t find anything. Outside, Bo asks Steve not to do anything until he hears him out. Steve says that he declared an oath to the PD. Bo reminds him that they made an oath to each other years earlier.

10/3 Isabella goes to see Kayla under the pretence of making a donation to the emergency center. Kayla asks if that is the only reason she came by? Isabella admits she feels like she is losing Roman and needs someone to talk to. Kayla assures her that Roman loves her. Isabella says she loves Roman but she also wants a relationship with her father, Victor. She is afraid that Roman will give her an ultimatum and she can’t turn her back on her father. Kayla encourages her that Roman is worth fighting for. Isabella runs out determined to fight for her man. Steve gets a psychological profile of the “Raider” and talks to the shrink about it. She tells him this person is highly driven but not motivated by environmental concerns. She determines this is personal by someone who has a deep personal grudge and is taking revenge against JENCON. Steve asks if anyone else has seen this report? He asks her to keep this in house and asks her for Roman’s copy as well. Steve calls Bo and demands that he meets him on the pier immediately and tells him it is important.

When they meet up, Steve tells Bo that the psychological profile makes it very obvious that Bo is the raider and Roman will recognise it as soon as he reads the report. Bo shows Steve a letter to Victor about JENCON and their plans for developing Green Oaks Industrial Park site with a ground breaking ceremony next week. Steve warns him this isn’t enough information to bust him. Bo tells him he knows it and he needs Steve;s help. Steve reminds Bo that he is a cop and he is supposed to be on the other side. Bo just wants him to help him with this and then he can do whatever he needs to do and get his gold star. Steve declares he likes parks but he isn’t willing to risk going to jail for any of them. Bo argues about Green Oaks, and Steve wants to know why that land means so much to him.

Bo shares that he and Hope had some great memories there, and perhaps first fell in love if that is possible at that age. Bo doesn’t want JENCON turning it into some parking lot. Steve asks exactly how does Bo plan on stopping JENCON? Bo hopefully asks if Steve is going to help him and he agrees. They shake hands as Bo says it is good to have Steve on his side. Carly asks Kayla about Shane. Later, on the pier Shane confides in Kayla that Eve is about to make the biggest mistake of her life and there is nothing he can do to stop her. If only Kimberly were here, she would be able to stop her.

10/4 Roman finds Bo and Steve together on the pier. He tells Steve that he needs to talk to him as he is taking him off the Riverfront Raider case. Steve argues that Roman needs him on this case and he can’t take him off of it. Roman observes that Steve hasn’t made any progress so he is going to assign it to someone else. Roman thinks he might be a little too much like the raider to be able to want to make the bust. Roman agrees to think about it but no promises. After Roman leaves, Steve tells Bo that they need help and suggests Nick Carelli. Bo hates the idea but Steve tells him that he and Nick got tight after he was burned in the accident. He suggests they go over to see him and Bo will see what Steve is talking about. When they arrive, they find Nick and Carly arguing as he has grabbed her arm and is shaking her demanding to know what she is doing In his room.

Bo rushes in and demands that Nick take his hands off of her. Nick is upset for finding her going through his computer files. She says it was on when she arrived. Steve questions that she was in Nick’s place alone? Bo ushers Carly out so they can talk to Nick. Steve is surprised that he would pick on a woman like this, and says this isn’t like him. Nick reminds him that he used to be a pimp. Steve tells him not to give him this crap as he came from the same place Nick did. Nick reminds Steve that he has his storybook ending while Nick is still creating his life. Bo says what that the villain winds up on top? Nick says the riverfront issues aren’t his problem. Steve is disappointed as he thought he could come to Nick for help and points out that people are getting hurt and he thought Nick might care.

Bo threatens so show Nick what it is like to be hurt as Steve stops him. Nick brags that JENCON is going to build that refinery and any other thing they want. They are going to roll right over this town and Bo and his little girlfriend aren’t going to be able to do anything to stop it. Bo asks Steve when he is going to stop sticking up for Nick, he isn’t the pal that Steve thought he was.

Steve finds Roman on the pier and asks if he has made any decision about the case? Roman says he has decided to keep him on the case but makes Steve promise not to feed him any more bull. He says he has been a cop for a long time and he knows when a cop is withholding from him. Roman warns him of the risk he is taking but Steve assures him that it is worth it.

10/5 Bo drops Shawn D. Off with Steve and Kayla as he is off to NY to JENCON headquarters. On the porch, Steve and Bo are arguing and their voices get loud. Kayla comes outside and interrupts and asks what is going on? Steve storms out and tells her to ask her brother. Bo plays it off as just a difference of opinion and the case will be over soon, and her and her man can ride off into the sunset together.

Shane goes to talk to Steve and wants to know what he has on the Riverfront Raider case. Steve tells him he doesn’t want to play games with him. He is working on something in the Raider case and is really close. He gets called into the PD and invites Shane to join Kayla for dinner as she has a feast planned. Kayla invites Shane to stay but he doesn’t really think she means it. He thinks this will be awkward between them as he knows that she blames him for the break up between him and Kim. He confides that Kayla tells him she's worried something will happen to Steve if he doesn't get off this case, and tries to find out if Shane is working on it too undercover.

10/9 glitches. Kayla asks Roman to take Steve off the Riverfront Raider case, and is shocked when Roman tells her he tried, but Steve refused as he said he was onto something and needed more time. Kayla asks how much more time did he say he needed? Roman gets concerned that Kayla doesn’t seem to be talking to Steve about this case. Kayla says Steve has her planning like they are leaving on the trip any day now, and Roman seems to think he is nowhere near breaking the case. Roman suggest that Kayla sit her husband down and talk to him. Kayla says she has and Steve just tells her how much he is looking forward to their adventure together.

Kayla surmises that this case must be really dangerous. Roman does share that Steve is onto something a lot bigger than just the Riverfront Raider and JENCON is up to something. Roman encourages her that Steve can handle this and he trusts Steve’s instincts and thinks Kayla should too. An upset Kayla vents to Shane about her fear over what Steve is up to. She is angry that he hasn’t been honest with her about the case he is working on. Kayla realizes that Shane is working undercover with Steve and that is why he is involved with JENCON.

Steve arrives on the boat and says he can see Bo’s trip to NY was a success. He shows him a newspaper article reporting JENCON’s files mysteriously destroyed. Steve smirks that he is surprised that he didn’t blow the place up. Bo says well someone got in his ear about things getting too violent. He says it is a good thing as Bo found a little souvenir that is going to make quite a bit of difference. He asks Steve if he is talking to his friend or a cop? Steve points out if he was in cop mode that Bo would already be in bracelets. Bo shows him a memo about a fire that is going to break out at Green Oaks and by the time anyone gets there the place will be nothing but charcoal. Steve observes that will clear the way to build an industrial park as no one will fight it if there isn’t a forest there. Bo is going to show Roman this evidence. Steve points out he isn’t going to be able to explain how he came by this evidence and he might as well go down to the newspaper and announce is the raider.

Bo says this is the first concrete evidence they have and asks if he has a better idea? Steve suggests they get evidence legally and says eavesdropping on JENCON’s plans is not illegal. Bo says this is going to be dangerous and wants Steve out of it. Steve points out that it is dangerous for him too. Bo wants him to take his ladies and get out of Salem and not come back. Steve points out they both have a lot to go home to, and Bo has a little Bo that needs him. Steve proposes they work together on the JENCON thing and they shake on it as Carly comes in. She asks what is going on? Steve says it is a wager on a game.

Steve returns home to find Maggie and Sarah looking at their house. Steve asks if she is happy about selling the house. She says no and confronts him and asks if he has changed his mind? She demands to know what he is hiding and she thinks there is a lot and tells him that he is going to tell her everything that is going on with this case. She reports she had to go to Roman to get answers about what he is hiding from her. Steve continues to tell her that they are really close to wrapping this thing up and then they will be out the door. She tells him she really doesn’t want to plan their going away party if they are really leaving soon. Steve tells her he didn’t want to bother her with this case. He admits that it is a little bit dangerous but nothing he can’t handle. He tells her it is something he has to follow through on but assures her it is almost over. He tells her they can have the party on Friday. All he wants is for her to be happy, that is all he really cares about.

10/11 glitches. Kayla and Steve prepare for their going away party. Steve tells her how beautiful she is and that all the dudes at the party are going to be so jealous of him. She says that it is going to be so hard to say goodbye to everyone tonight. She tells him that she loves him and doesn’t like it when they fight. He tells her that he doesn’t either but likes it when they make up as he kisses her. There is a storm outside, as Bo arrives. Kayla asks Bo to use the video camera to record some clips for the family telling them how much they are going to miss them.

Kayla goes upstairs and Steve confides in Bo that she is antsy to leave on their trip but he can’t until he wraps up this JENCON case. Bo suggests they use the camera to get evidence and record JENCON’s secret meetings. Steve points out that the evidence won’t be admissible in court as it would be illegally obtained but it could point Roman in their direction and get him off of Bo’s scent. Now they just have to find out where and when the next meeting will be held.

Steve says they have to bring someone else on board. He can’t tell Bo just yet. Bo doesn’t like this but Steve can’t blow this other person’s cover and Bo will just have to trust him on that. Cute moment as Steve and Kayla do a video clip of them saying goodbye to the family and how much they will miss them. Steve raves about what a lucky man he is, and they tease about making another baby. As Kayla and arrive at Wings for their farewell party, she continues to worry over Steve’s safety. She shares that she doesn’t know what she will do if something happens to Steve. Bo reassures her that Steve isn’t going to be doing anything to risk what he has.

Meanwhile, Steve is at Shane’s to fill him in that JENCON is keeping Shane out of the picture. Shane warns Steve that he isn’t going to like this as it will mean using Nick. He shows him a tracking device that he wants Steve to plant on Nick and then Shane can follow him to his meeting. Steve sarcastically says it is no problem, he gave Steve a house, and is footing the bill for the farewell party and has been a good friend to him. Shane understands and says he can do it but Nick heads the other way every time he sees Shane. If they can’t get the tracker planted tonight then Shane will just have to wait for the next meeting.

Tom and Alice arrive for the party and Tom tells Kayla that she always has a job here whenever she is ready to return. Steve comes in and tells Bo that Nick is going to help them without knowing it and shows him the bug. Steve finds Nick at the bar and gives him a big hug for the party and Nick tells him how much he is going to miss him as Steve plants the device. Steve and Jo have a moment as he assures her that what they have built they won’t lose no matter where Steve is. Adrienne arrives and asks what about his little sister? She says that when she was a little girl she always wanted her big brother. Steve asks where Jack is as he wants to say goodbye to him and hopes he gets home before Steve leaves. (Jack is working undercover at the Alamain estate while Jenn is impersonating Katarina). Nick leaves for the meeting and Shane tracks him on his computer.

Back at the party, Shawn toasts to Steve and Kayla’s great adventure, “May the road you take be the road to happiness.” Then Marcus toasts his best friends, Steve and Kayla. He recounts everything they have done for them and promises that they will always have a place in his life no matter how long they are gone, but asks them not to make it too long okay? Steve and Marcus hugs it out. Kayla watches worriedly as Steve gets a call at the bar. Shane informs him that the meeting location is at the haunted house. Bo watches and Steve tells Bo that they have the meeting location. Bo wants Steve to stay at his party and let Bo take care of it. Steve refuses as the evidence has to be gotten legally and Bo can’t do that. Steve takes a moment as he is leaving to warmly watch Kayla laughing with Stephanie and Marcus with oh so much love on his face.

10/12 Good Quality. Steve plants the bug in the control room of the haunted house set. The bug records Nick’s meeting with the Lloyd, the JENCON connection. Afterwards, Steve retrieves the recording and heads home to view the tape. It is recorded on the after their farewell goodbye recording. Steve watches as Garrison arranges for Nick to talk to Lawrence. He invites Nick to take on more responsibilities for a bigger piece of the pie without asking inconvenient questions. He wants Nick to have Green Oaks Park burned down tonight. Nick points out there is a thunder and lightening storm and is very hesitant. Lawrence tells him that is why they moved it up as the storm is the perfect cover and to make it look like an accident. Steve rushes out, leaving the tape in their vcr.

Back at the party, Kayla badgers Shane to tell her where Shane is as she is sure he knows something. To stop her from blowing Shane’s cover, Bo pulls her aside. He tells her that Steve is working the case and Kayla is upset that he left their party. He tells her what a good man she married. He tells her after tonight they can leave on their trip, and she can have everything she always wanted. Neil says his goodbye to Kayla. Steve arrives back at Wings and tells Bo that they are planning on burning down Green Oaks tonight. Steve groans that it will take forever to get there. Bo says going up the river will be faster and he has a buddy with a speed boat named “River Flyer”. He tells Steve to stay at the party and cover with Nick while Bo gets the boat ready and Steve can meet him there later. Steve also tells Bo that Shane is the other guy and to fill him in. Bo had already figured that out.

Kayla is SO relieved to see Steve back as he comes up behind her and hugs and kisses her. She turns around and hugs him tightly as Jo takes Stephanie off with her. He figures that she is angry with him for leaving without telling her and light hardily invites her to punch him in the nose. She says that Bo told her that he was working on the case and she is okay with it, she is just relieved that he is back safely. Emilio and Melissa sing, “True Love” as Steve and Kayla dance. Steve and Kayla get up and Steve says his goodbyes to everyone there. He says how much everyone means to him and how much he appreciates them. He reminisces that he came to Salem five years ago and he never thought he would stay that long. Good things, and bad things happened along the way, but what he will remember are the people he met and made this scary looking dude feel like he was worth knowing.

He tells his family that they stuck with him no matter what, even though he didn’t give them an easy time of it. He says that he is going to miss them all. Kayla agrees with everything he said except for the scary looking dude. She says all of them are what she will miss from Salem, all the people she learned from and loved. She promises that wherever they go, everyone there will remain in their hearts and she loves them all very much. Afterwards, a teeny eyed Caroline tells them she wants them to have a terrific time and starts crying. Shawn wishes them well in their travels. Shawn tells Steve that he knows he took him too long to realise it took him too long to realise the man Steve is. He says that he hopes he knows that they think of him like one of the family. Steve hugs him and tells him that he thinks the same of him.

Nick tells his goons that he is cancelling the gig as someone is on to them, as Steve listens in. Nick heads out. Steve goes over to Kayla and tells her that something came up and Bo might be in real trouble and he has to go to warn him. He kisses her sweetly and tells her and the baby how much he loves them. He takes a final moment to look deeply into her eyes and then heads out as she watches him intently with fear and hope in her eyes. He stops at the door and looks back at her for a long lingering moment.

Bo is on a speed boat with a bomb set to off, a gift to him from Lawrence. Bo goes to call Steve to cancel due to the weather being so bad but can’t get through. He heads back into Wings and Kayla is worried to see him when he asks where Steve is? She tells Bo that Steve was looking for him as he was afraid that Bo was walking into a trap. Kayla realizes that Steve is in trouble. Bo assures her that he will take care of it and rushes out. Steve gets on the boat and finds the note and then sees the bomb and says, “Oh no!". He dives off the boat into the water just as the bomb goes off.

10/15 Kayla worries when Steve doesn't return. Kayla thanks Nick for the party and his friendship. He awkwardly and guiltily accepts her thanks, his caring for her obvious. Marcus tells her that he has been beeped for an emergency, they must be short staffed. He reassures her again that everything is going to be just perfect for her. Bo goes to find Steve after and finds the debris from the explosion. Bo sees Steve floating in the water and dives in to rescue him. Bo pulls an injured Steve out of the water. When the psychiatrist comes along and begins to help provide first aid, Bo runs to the fire station to find paramedics. When Bo returns, Steve is taken to the hospital and he heads to Wings to turn Kayla’s life upside down.

Brian tells Roman and Shane the news about Steve. Bo arrives and finds Kayla at the microphone making an announcement. He goes to her and pulls her off the stage. She instantly knows it is about Steve. He confirms and says it is bad and her and Bo rush out. Justin takes Adrienne and Jo with him to the hospital. Marcus is shocked when Steve is rolled into the hospital, and stares at him stunned. Kayla and Bo rush into the hospital looking for information. Bo is told that Steve has been taking to the OR. Marcus comes out and tells Kayla that Steve is being prepped for surgery. She begs to see him beforehand but he tells her it is too late. He promises to update her and that she can see him after surgery. Bo hands her Steve’s eye patch that he found on the pier. She insists that Steve is going to make it!

Jack calls Jo and is told she is at the hospital. Jo and Adrienne encourage each other about how tough Steve is. They all want to know what happened to Steve. Bo fills them in that Steve was working on a case and something went wrong and there was an explosion. Roman arrives and goes straight to hug Kayla. He assures her that he will find whoever is responsible for this. Nick is furious when he learns that Steve was injured.

DVD #20B Jack calls the hospital and Jo tells him that he should return to Salem ASAP as they don’t know if Steve is going to survive. He assures her that he will be on the next plane home and Steve is going to be fine. Marcus is in surgery praying for Steve to survive as the surgeon works furiously to save him as his chest cavity fills with blood and he flat lines. Nick shows up at the hospital and asks how Steve is doing? Kayla doesn’t know as there hasn’t been any news. Marcus comes out and tells everyone that Steve has survived surgery. He cautions that he is not too stable and only time will tell. Marcus takes her in to see Steve but warns her it is not good.

Kayla sits by Steve’s bedside and reminds her unconscious husband that they have plans. She has been packing, and they sold the house. She cries, “How could you do this?” He promised her nothing dangerous and that it would be over before she knew it. She pleads that she is ready, and Stephanie is ready, but they can’t leave without him. She holds his limp hand up against her cheek and kisses it. She leans into him and tells him sternly, “Don’t you dare leave without me. We need you, we really need you.”

10/16 Bo blames himself for Steve getting hurt, as Kayla tells him to catch the person responsible, the riverfront raider! Kayla things the raider knew Steve was getting close and maybe he set this up. Bo tells her that he was working this case with Steve, and he is sorry that he couldn’t tell her that before. She asks him to go to Roman and work with him on the case to find the raider. After Kayla leaves, Carly asks Bo what he is going to do? He can’t tell Kayla that he is the raider. Kayla is angry with Shane and blames him for not stopping Steve when he had the chance. Kayla thinks about her life with Steve, and flashes back to their recent wedding vows. Marcus comes in and tells her he has some news about Steve. He tells her that Steve’s conditioned has worsened and he has slipped into a coma. He encourages her not to lose hope. She tells him that she can’t, that is all she has.

Shane arrives at Victor’s and asks him to keep quiet about his ISA role. He points out that for once he and Victor are on the same side and won’t help Victor to out Shane. Nick and one of Alamein’s henchmen arrive to meet with Victor and Shane about Jencon. Victor demands to know if Jencon had anything to do with Steve's accident? The goon insists they had nothing to do with it. Victor warns that if he finds out that “things” are going on behind his back that he will extract a price for it. Lawrence orders the evidence in Steve’s injuries to point to Nick.

10/17 Kayla sits next to Steve's hospital bed holding a vigil as he is in a coma. He has a vision of being in a tunnel as Kayla tells him that he can’t leave and begs him not to go. Steve says this is not up to him, it is out of his control. He tries to tell her that he is dying and she has to face that. She refuses and tells him how much she loves him. She begs him to fight to get out of this. Steve tells her that he can’t, that this is his time. She makes him promise not to leave as there are other people here who love him and need him. She tells him she loves him and demands that he remembers it. He loves her too but points towards the light that he can’t resist and seems to turn and take a step towards it.

Kayla is relieved when Jack arrives and she tells him that Steve needs him. Kayla soothes Steve by telling him that Jack is here. Jack soon joins Kayla talking to Steve in his mind while he is in the tunnel. Jack pleads with Steve that Jennifer is in trouble and he needs a real hero type to help her and Steve is his guy. Jack tries to convince Steve not to die but Steve tells him that he does not have a choice. Jack refuses to give up. Steve tells him that he is alright. Jack says he needs Steve, to continue to show him the person he can be. Kayla enters the tunnel to tell Steve that see Jack needs him too. Kayla steps outside for a moment, leaving Jack alone with Steve. Jack sits beside him, and reminds him that Steve made a vow to him as a little boy that he would take care of him forever. He accuses him of not keeping his promise. A tearful Jack pleads with his brother that he still needs him.

Adrienne visits Steve and she joins him in the tunnel. He tells her that he knows why she came and it is not going to work. She says that she has never told him why he means so much to her. She cries that the day she found him was one of the happiest days of her life. She tells him that he has been her hero and was everything she ever hoped for. She winds up yelling at him that if he dies on her now that she will never speak to him again. He tells her they are calling him and it is his time to go. Kayla enters and begs him to stay for just a little bit longer as she is bringing someone else to him. She cries, “WAIT!”

Kayla arrives with Jo next and joins Steve in the tunnel. He tells Jo that he has to go, he is late and they want him. She begs him that they want him too, their family is finally reunited after all of these years. She tells him that he can’t go, not now. He tells her again that it is their time and they are calling him. She offers to go instead of him and he gets a tear in his eye at the sacrifice she is willing to make for him. He cries that his biggest regret is never telling her what she means to him. Jack soon joins his family in Steve’s room, and Jo, Adrienne, Kayla, and Jack all talk to Steve in the tunnel. Kayla tells him that they are all here and they all love him and need him. She asks him what is he going to do? Is he going to leave them? She lays her head down on his chest and gently murmurs his name.

10/18 Outside of Steve’s room, Jack asks Kayla what happened to Steve? Shane arrives to overhear that Kayla thinks he is responsible for Steve being on the case. Shane points out that Steve saw an enormous injustice taking place and no one could have stopped him. She disagrees, that Shane never even tried to talk Steve out of it. Steve knew the danger involved but Steve tells her he is greatly troubled by what happened to Steve, he knows she thinks he doesn’t care. Jack and Kayla grab coffee, as Bo returns to comfort Kayla. He asks her to tell him everything that Steve said to her at the party, even if it doesn’t seem important. She recounts what she could remember about Nick arguing with a couple of goons at the bar and Steve headed over to them and he left soon after. Jack arrives bearing sandwiches for a worried Kayla. She knows he is trying to help, he says he has to do something. She tells him how much she appreciates him staying with her. He asks her what she was going to say earlier when Bo walked in? She tells Jack that she is glad he is here. He tells her that Steve isn’t going to die as he holds her. She says he can’t, they love him too much!

10/19 Marcus tries to convince Kayla to get some rest, as she refuses to leave Steve's side. He reminds her that he will do everything he can to help Steve. Kayla brings Marcus into see Steve in the tunnel and begs him to listen to Marcus. Steve says he has to go, the light is pulling him. Marcus tells him that he isn’t going anywhere until he hears what Marcus has to say. Marcus tells him that Steve is his best friend, and Steve says that Marcus is his as well. Marcus insists that he can fight dying, that he and Marcus have unfinished dreams. Marcus laments that he never told Steve that he loves him. Steve tells him that he already knows that. Marcus grieves over Steve in the hospital chapel, and has a childhood flashback to time spent with Steve.

An angry Kayla vents to Bo about Steve’s friends letting him down. Bo knows she means Shane. Bo tells her that this wasn’t Shane’s fault but Bo’s and she should blame him instead. This was a trap for Bo that Steve walked into. Bo insists that Steve is going to come back and they will have their life together. He tells her that he believes that and she has to believe that too. Bo visits Steve and he also talks to him in the tunnel. Steve is relieved to see that Bo is alright, he thought they got him too. Bo says that this should have happened to him not Steve and this is all his fault. Steve says how can he say that, he has a little boy that needs him. Bo counters that Steve has a wife and baby that need him. As Bo begs Steve to fight, he tells him that he just can’t do it. Steve tells Bo that he will have to fight the bad guys for them both as Steve just can’t do it and turns again towards the light.

Shawn and Caroline bring baby Stephanie to Kayla at the hospital. She grateful brings Stephanie to Steve, to try and draw him back. She tells Steve that he has to come back to them. Kayla and baby Stephanie join him in the tunnel. Kayla observes that no one else can get him to come back, but she believes Stephanie can. She tells him that Stephanie needs him in the coming years.

Steve sees Stephanie as a 15 year old teenager (played by Stephen Nichols real life daughter, Vanessa). She tells him that her life won’t be the same without him. He stares at her and tells her how beautiful she is, just like her mama. She says people tell her she looks like her papa and she is proud of that. He tells her that she is perfect. She tells him about her life, about a boy she likes on the riverfront, one who is a good person and will treat her right. Steve demands a name as he wants to check this guy out. Stephanie warns her that he can’t do that since he is leaving them. She asks why he has to go, they have to much ahead of them, all the promises he made her when she was a baby? They are going to miss all of that, they are going to miss him. She begs him, “Please don’t go pop. Please stay.” And she fades away into the mist. Steve cries that he doesn’t want to leave, he wants to stay with her and their baby girl. Kayla begs him to fight and to not stop fighting to return to her. He reaches towards her, trying to touch her fingers.

Back in his hospital room, she pleads with Steve to hold onto her and to not let go. She sees him wiggle his fingers and calls to him to wake up. Kayla calls to him and tells him that her and Stephanie are waiting for him to wake up so they can take him home. Steve moans and she goes to him crying that she is right there, they are right there as Jack stands in the doorway waiting.

10/22 Steve awakens as Jack rushes out to get a doctor. Steve tells her that he just couldn’t leave her and Stephanie and she kisses him in relief. Marcus comes in, thrilled to see his buddy awake. Another doctor comes in to check on Steve and he asks Kayla to wait outside. Steve requests a kiss from Stephanie before she takes her away. Kayla takes the baby outside to her relieved parents who are thrilled to hear he has woken up. They take Stephanie with them and promise to tell everyone the good news about Steve waking up. When the doctor is done, he tells her that he has to run some tests to determine Steve’s current condition. Steve tells her that he feels fine and to not worry. Marcus complains that Steve gave them quite the scare. Steve jokes that he was just taking a little nap. Marcus shares that sometimes it takes a near miss like this one to wake a person up to how much they really care.

Steve groans and tells him not to get mushy. Marcus tells him in this whole wide world, there is no one closer to him, that Steve is a brother to him. Steve weakly says, they are soul brothers. Marcus says I should have told you a long time ago, “I love you”. Steve shares that he has always known that as for many years Marcus was the only family he had and Marcus was always there for him. Kayla observes that Marcus is a good friend but he isn’t the only person waiting for him and pulling for him to get better. She tells him that Jack has been by his side every minute. Steve tells him that he appreciates that Jack was here with him. Jack says that he needs Steve’s help. Jennifer is in trouble and Jack tried to help her but he failed and needs Steve. His brother points out that he is in no condition to help Jack. Steve asks Jack to grab his wallet and look at the picture behind his ID. It is a picture of him and Jack as little boys. He tells Jack that he wants him to have this picture of them.

He tells him to look at the picture and to realise Jack is made of the same stuff Steve is and Jack can take care of himself and Jennifer. The doctor interrupts to run the tests on Steve. As Jack turns to go, Steve asks him to come closer and shakes his hand and tells him, “I believe in you. It is time you start believing in yourself. You take a look at that little picture of us, look at that and remember how much I love you”.

Lawrence and his henchman get a call that soon they will have what they want, referring to Steve’s condition. We see the camera pan to the IV, and then two of Lawrence Alamain’s goons talking about how the amount in this bag of IV is “enough to do the job”. The doctor is going to take it in to Steve Johnson and he hooks it up and tells Steve that this is going to fix him up just fine. Lawrence is later notified that the job is done and all evidence is removed.

Jo and Adrienne come in to see him awake. Jo gives him a hard time for worrying her. He tells her that she came back and found him that he knows he has been hard on her. He wasn’t sure if he could ever forgive her for giving him and Billy up. He reports that no matter how bad he treated her, she continued to love him and he took her for granted. He tells her how sorry he is and he loves her, he really does love her. She cries that those are the sweetest words she ever heard. Adrienne approaches, crying tears of joy. He tells her that she was always the toughest one in the family and brought them all together. He tells her thank you for that. He tells her that her that she really deserves that family and no one can take care of those babies like her and Justin. He asks her to keep fighting for those babies and to take care of them. She cries and tells him what a terrific brother she is.

Kayla notices Steve is fading and concerned tells them it is time for him to rest. She looks at his vital monitors as he tells her that he isn’t feeling good. Steve shakily tells her that he isn’t feeling good. Bo comes in to see Steve as Kayla goes to get the doctor. He tells Bo that he can’t blame himself for what happened, it wasn’t Bo’s fault. Bo vows that he will get revenge from whoever did this to him. Steve tells him when the boat blew up that he found a note, the explosion was meant for Bo. He tries to remember something else about the note, but can’t remember the name Alamain.

Kayla returns and chatters to Steve about them going to Bangkok first. She is trying to keep him conscious and with her. He asks her to tell his baby girl that he loves her. She says that he can tell her tomorrow. He groans and cries as she begs him that she needs him, he is part of her, they are part of each other. She cries that she loves him with her whole heart and soul. He thanks her. She says for what? He thanks her for his life, he was nothing without her. She gave him everything. She cries and tells him that they have always gotten their strength from each other and demands that he takes what he needs from her. He struggles to tell her, “I love you, sweetness” and then flat lines as the doctor rushes in as Steve has died.

10/23 Glitchy. Bo fights with Nick when he sees him at the hospital. Kayla watches helplessly as the doctors try to resuscitate him. Marcus begs the other doctor to continue trying to revive him but they aren't able to save Steve. When Kayla sees Marcus come out of his room, she rushes to go back to him. Marcus stops her and tells her heartbrokenly that he is gone. Kayla argues that he is wrong, Steve will snap out of it. She just needs a chance to talk to him, she can bring him back. Bo stops her, understanding the denial she is feeling.

Jack breaks the news to Jo and Adrienne about Steve’s death. She cries with heartbreak in her eyes that she just wants to see him. Marcus asks if she is sure as it is not going to be easy (not for any of us!). Kayla says a final good-bye to Steve, she lays her head on his chest and tells him that he was her best friend. She promises him that she will be strong for their baby girl, and their friends and family. Marcus comes in to get her and gently pull her away from Steve.

Lawrence is notified that Stephen Johnson has been declared dead and to be sure to remove all the evidence. We see the IV retrieved by the goon. Kayla returns to their rooftop loft and has flashbacks to the song "Good-bye My friend". Marcus finds her on the rooftop and offers his comfort as he wraps his arms around her.

10/24 Shane goes to see Kayla, and she's angry at him for not helping Steve, as he promises to find the man responsible, but will need her help. He is sure Steve left some kind of clue behind as to who has done this to him. Kayla can’t help him right now, she can only function a moment at a time, day at a time. She tells him that Steve’s funeral is on Friday. Shane encourages that she has a lot of people to help her with that. Kayla refuses to allow anyone to help with the funeral arrangements as it is something she has to do. She wants to do the memorial the way Steve would want. Shane argues with her that she is wrong, this is not the way Steve would want it.

Isabella tells Roman Steve died. Roman goes to see Kayla and tells her he has a lead. He brought a guy in this morning that might lead him to who may have done this to Steve. She is focusing on Steve’s memorial as she has to make it meaningful, she has to mark Steve’s death so that it has meaning. Isabella comes in and as she overhears, she asks Kayla if they can make the Halloween anti-drug concert dedicated to Steve and held in his honour. At the end of this show, Kayla sits rocking by the fire staring at the yellow roses and says softly, “Goodnight, Steve”.

10/25 Jo goes to see Jack and asks if she is okay. She says it is incredibly hard. Jo reaches out to Jack and tells him they can get through this together. She confides that she needs to be able to help him, and to have him help her. Jack and Adrienne talk on the dock. He tells her that he is happy for her adopting the babies, but she knows he is hurting missing Steve. She shares that Steve wanted her to live for the future and Steve told her to fight for them, for that future. She tells him that all they get is just one life. Steve found his happy with Kayla and Stephanie. She knows Jack can find his happiness with Jennifer.

10/26 Good quality (their final scenes together). Kayla has a dream of Steve kissing her to wake her up. She turns and jumps into his arms proclaiming with relief and joy that he is alive! He tells her how much he misses her, that it is no good without her. She begs him to stay with her, here with her and Stephanie. She holds onto him tightly telling him not to leave. She awakens to find herself hugging Shane, as he asks if she is okay. Sadly she realizes it was just a dream, but it was so real like he was reaching out to her from someplace, trying to tell her something. Shawn and Caroline come in and tell her it is time to go to the church. She pauses, still lost in the realness of her dream and says to herself that he was there.

Everyone gathers at the church for Steve's funeral. Kayla thanks everyone for coming and honouring Steve. She wants a different kind of service, the kind Steve would want. She invites to share their memories of Steve, the way he would want to be remembered. Marcus gets up first and talks about how Steve enjoyed playing Santa and he conned Marcus into playing his elf. Jo remembers finding Steve when she first came to Salem and saw him for the first time in many years. She shares because of how she had hurt Steve, that he carried around anger and resentment. Then he met Kayla who saw through it all. Jo assures Kayla that they have all grown to love her very much. She remembers the first time that he called her mama out of the blue and she knew then that she had her son back. Roman talks about when he first came to town wrapped in bandages with no memory (as the pawn), that Steve took him in and took care of him. Roman states that he thinks he was the first person in Salem to see the real Steve.

Adrienne tells a story about Steve giving her courage the day of her first wedding to Justin. Shane follows telling the story of how Steve found him being held hostage in the trailer in the woods and got caught in the process. Shane shares that Steve was a brother to him. He says Steve pointed that out the day they both married into the same family. Shane says they both would have died for each other. Then Kayla speaks as Benji signs how Steve and Kayla helped him. Then it is Jack’s turn and he comments on how there was so much garbage for so many years, but they were in the end family the day that Steve put his baby girl in Jack’s arms. Jack knows that Steve was trying to get him to remember who he was back in the day. Then Bo shares his memory of Steve playing the harmonica and cheering him up. Steve helped him see how many people he had around him, loving him and helped him through the aftermath of Hope’s death.

Nick stands up and says he would like to say a few words. Bo warns him to sit down, or church or no church he will tear him apart. Kayla stands beside Bo, resting her hand on his arm but does not argue with him. Nick sits back down. Kayla then shares that there is something she wants to share, a memory of Steve that brings it all together for her. She tells about a late night she was working at the emergency center. She was overwhelmed as were all the patients waiting. Steve showed up and played Christmas carols on his harmonica and got everyone to sing along. He gave a lot of wonderful moments, even to people he didn’t know. She has tears as she says that Steve made them happy, and she was very lucky to share her life with him.

Kayla says a last good-bye to Steve at the cemetery as she sits and sobs over his casket telling him how she would always love him. As Kayla leaves, some men come with another coffin and make a switch.

10/29 Kayla returns home for the first time since Steve’s death, and hesitantly enters the house as she sees all the photos of her and Steve together. Just as she is entering, a couple of Jencon’s men grab her from behind. They are there to find the camera Steve had hidden in the control room and recorded their arson plans. Kayla screams and Neil runs up and scares them off. He called the PD and they are sending someone over to guard the house, as Neil encourages her to file a police report. He tells her he came by to drop off some of Steve’s belongings that were left behind in his hospital room.

Neil accompanies her to the police department, and they run into Nick and Eve. He tells her she can always count on him if she needs anything. In Roman’s office, he tells her how worried he is about her. He asks how he can help? She asks if he can take her to mom and pop’s? He doesn’t think that is the best place for her, there isn’t enough protection for her there. He invites her to come to his house, but she observes there are enough children in his home already. Shane comes in and Roman fills him in on the attack at Kayla and how he doesn’t want her being alone in case there is another attempt. Shane invites Kayla to stay with him, he has plenty of room. Shane reminds her that Steve spent every waking moment of his life keeping her and Stephanie safe. Does she really think that Steve would want her home alone?

Roman comes back in but doesn’t have any leads on her attacker but still doesn’t think she should be home alone. Shane offers to drive her home. When she gets home, she finds Steve’s coat and grabs it and holds it to her, smelling his scent. Shane offers once again that it is not too late to stay at his house. Kayla wanders around her house, her eyes expressing all the pain in her soul as everywhere she looks sparks another memory. She slowly says that perhaps Shane is right, and she should stay with him. She grabs the tape out of the vcr. She tells Shane that Steve made the tapes as they were planning their trip for their friends and family to see them while they were away.

10/30 Shane helps Kayla settle in the house and tells her he is following up on a couple of leads so she will have the house to herself. She tells him she will be alright once this case is settled and whoever is responsible for his death is locked up. Shane acknowledges that she is angry with Shane over Steve’s death. He asks her if she can put her feelings towards him aside so they can work together to find evidence in Steve’s death? He is sure Steve left behind some evidence that will help him figure it out. She says she can’t.

Bo finds Kayla on the dock and comes up and puts his arms around her, comforting her. He wishes they could just turn back the clock to that night so Bo could stop him before he got to that boat. He tells her he knows about shoving that pain so deep inside as it is scary to face it as it will hurt too much. He invites her to call him if she ever needs anything. She gives him Steve’s leather jacket. He tries to refuse, but she knows if Steve was here that he would want Bo to have it. He slowly reverently puts it on. She fixes the collar, happy to see the jacket have new life and a new home with Bo. They both have tears in their eyes as they hug. Marcus stops in to check on Kayla. He tells her that it doesn’t seem real, that Steve is gone. It feels like he is just out of town and will be returning soon. Understanding, Kayla hugs him.

10/31 The concert in Steve's memory is held, with Isabella as a host. Emilio & Melissa sing. Kayla thanks everyone their support and presents Steve’s anti-drugs stance, and turning his back on violence as causing hatred and pain. Kayla determines that the men who killed her husband think they won, but they did not. They may have ended Steve’s life but they can never kill his spirit to wild applause.

11/5 Kayla talks to Stefanie about her father and how much she misses him, and assures her baby girl that they will be okay. Maggie and Mickey arrive to check in on Kayla. They ask her if she wants to change her mind of selling the house to them. They tell her they would completely understand if she would like to stay there. She assures them the house is theirs as soon as the paperwork is completed, they can move in. Next Julie stops by to visit. Kayla tells Julie that she is fine. Julie calls her on masking her pain with strength, and she recognises all the symptoms and warns Kayla that she can’t go on with this forever. She advises her that if she doesn’t allow her time to grieve that she will break into a million pieces. Kayla tells her that she promised Steve she would be strong. Julie asks her to think about what she said, as Kayla thanks her for coming by.

Kayla stops by her home and when Shane finds her there, he reams her for taking the risk. He reminds her how dangerous this place can be for her. She lets him know he is over the line, and is not responsible for her. He tells her that he is not going to let anything happen to her. Then he softens and tells her that if she wants to move home that he is sure they can make it work. She tells him it is too late as the house is sold. He invites her to continue to stay with him and he can offer her protection that she will need especially now. He tells her that Nick was not killed in the explosion, he was shot beforehand.

11/7 Shane reluctantly tells Kayla that Bo is a suspect in Nick's murder. Carly finds the note Steve read before the boat explosion from Lawrence. It reads, “Goodbye Bo Brady. Lawrence”. Bo realises the bomb was intended for him and Steve is dead because Lawrence wanted revenge against Bo. Bo tells her that he and Lawrence crossed swords once and Bo won. He observes that some people hold a grudge for a lifetime. Shane and Kayla watch the tape Steve made of Jencon's secret room. Kayla cries as she listens to Steve promising Stephanie that she will have lots of brothers. Shane comforts her as she grieves for her husband. As the tape continues to play, we see a recording of Nick and Lawrence’s goon. They call Lawrence and Shane declares this is the man behind JENCON.

Kayla can’t believe she is listening to the voice of the man who killed Steve. Shane sends the voice recording into his computer for a voice match and he learns it is Lawrence Alamain. Shane makes a plane reservation to go to see Lawrence. Kayla insists that she is going with him, and that is that! This is the end of continuous Kayla episodes. (Note: did not include the final 11/7 scene with Shane & Kayla on the airplane as they run into Julie and talk about the Alemain adventure coming up that is not included. The few clips below are highlights of Kayla’s storyline for the rest of Nov-Dec, 1990 as she thinks of Steve or deals with the aftermath of his death and her memories.

11/14 Edited. Bo talks to Kayla about moving past her pain over Steve's death. They share how it feels like Hope and Steve will just come home any day now, that somehow it isn’t real. The phone will ring and it will be that person.

12/11 As Lawrence gives a news conference at the emergency center, Bo is there with a plan to get him. Kayla stops Bo from killing Lawrence and pulls him into another room away from Lawrence. She demands that if he kills Lawrence that it is not going to make life easier for her and she refuses to allow him to use Steve’s death as a reason for murder. She later tells Shane that she did a good thing today, she saved Lawrence’s life. He isn’t much of a human being but he is one and she wouldn’t have been able to do this a month ago, even a week ago.

12/13 Marcus joins Kayla as she says goodbye to her home with Steve. It is empty now, with only a steamer trunk left. She opens it and finds Steve’s toy train, and Emily’s diary. She reads a passage from Emily grieving after Giddeon’s death about how their love is stronger than even death. She finds Steve’s Patchy Claus hat and puts it on. When Lawrence shows up, he asks to donate to the children’s Christmas party. His money is turned down and Marcus warns that he knows he killed Steve and he won’t allow him to tarnish his memory. Marcus threatens Lawrence who smugly warns him that he will be held accountable for any action he takes against him, while Lawrence gets diplomatic free pass on anything he might do.

After he leaves, Kayla stops Marcus from going after him. She demands that she has already lost one person she loved and she refuses to loose another. She warns Marcus that to react is exactly what Lawrence wants and would just make Marcus like him. She sadly tells Marcus how much she misses Steve and he holds her in his arms.

12/19 Sarah drops a package off to Kayla at Shane’s. It arrived at Mickey and Maggie's new house (Steve and Kayla's old house) for Kayla. They are Christmas presents from Steve. They are wrapped and the note says to “Open on Christmas” and touched Kayla sits soberly staring at them. She finds a beautiful “Baby’s First Christmas” stocking for Stephanie. It is her first Christmas present, touched her eyes fill with tears. She tells Shane how her and Steve would lie in bed and talk about Stephanie’s first Christmas.

12/21 Kayla keeps up Steve's Christmas tradition, by dressing as Santa with a Patch as “Patchy Claus” and does a great Steve impersonation. Her and Marcus honour Steve’s memory by handing out toys to the kids on the docks. She later surprises Shane with a visit from Andrew.

12/27 Jack brings Kayla a gift for Stephanie, as he tells her Jen has accepted his marriage proposal. Kayla tells Shane she is going to California to see Kim. Shane says a tearful good-bye to Andrew, as Kayla and his son leave.
