DVD #5A 3/3 Steve is walking near his place, playing his harmonica when Kayla comes flying around the corner, rushes into his arms and gives him a huge kiss! She is so excited and announces that Kim is coming home, that they discovered who really killed Emma Marshall! She then reports that baby Andrew has been found and is coming home too! They make plans to celebrate with a special dinner. Steve and Kayla go grocery shopping. (Note: short pre-emption after they return home, before Steve and Kayla have a lobster dinner after learning Kim is out of jail).

When they get home, they enjoy an evening together in front of the fire. She is wearing a beautiful sparkly blue dress that highlights her eyes. She shares that she has never actually eaten lobster. He laughs how can that be when her father was a fisherman? She reports that she used to get in trouble for letting them go. When he teases her, she grabs the whip cream threatening him with it. Staying in character, he grabs the whip cream and stops her and reminds her that she will ruin her dress!

Kayla is nervous when she hasn’t heard from her family. Steve takes her in front of the fire to sit and relax, rubs her shoulders and they start kissing. She promises that she won’t fall asleep tonight (a reminder of the time when she was an exhausted nurse and he gave her a back rub, putting her to sleep when they were finally alone together). Chris calls to let her know that Kimberly has been officially released! Kayla squeals in delight and throws her arms around Steve. She turns on the answering machine and declares no more interruptions. She takes him back in front of the fire and hurriedly starts to undress him. He stops her from rushing, he looks deeply into her eyes and tells her that they have time and kisses her intensely and they lay in front of the fire making out, fade to black.

Adrienne stops by her apartment (she is going to join Jo at the shelter), Duke has followed her home and attacks her.

3/4 They are later sitting together on the couch, still kissing. As Kayla feeds him grapes, he suggests that she peel them for him. Neither is in a hurry and are just enjoying finally having some alone time together. He asks her again if this is what she really wants tonight? He suggests they can wait, she adamantly says NO! She is tired of waiting. Hope excitedly calls and reports that Kim is headed to pick up Andrew, and the whole family is going to meet up. She asks Kayla to meet them over there as the whole family will finally be together. Steve tells Kayla they can postpone their celebration so she can go celebrate with her family. She doesn’t want to leave him, but he won’t hear of her not going. He determines that she needs to be there when they bring that baby home!

She counters by asking if he will go with her. He doesn’t want to go, he knows the Bradys do not like him and it isn’t a good night to mix with them. She tells him she won’t have a good time without him, and sweetly asks her to go with him. He reluctantly agrees but says he will not have a good time and will not fit in. She promises him that nothing is going to get in the way of their night, nothing! They arrive at Shane’s, and entire Brady family is laughing and decorating. All too soon a somber Shane and Kim arrive home and report that he wouldn’t even let them see Andrew. Everyone encourages them to be hopeful (Andrew’s adoptive father returns him to them later that night).

Jo calls Steve worried about Adrienne and he goes to check on her and Kayla insists on coming too. Duke rapes Adrienne before they arrive. Just as Steve is knocking on her door, shouting for her, he hears a gun shot. He breaks down the door to get in and finds Duke laying on the floor, and Adrienne holding a gun. Steve holds his sister. Steve takes the gun from Adrienne and when Kayla shows up, he makes her think he shot Duke. Steve tells Abe that he killed his father.

3/5 Kayla asks Adrienne what happened, and she shakily says she doesn’t know. Kayla tells Abe that Adrienne has a hemotoma on the side of her head and she can’t remember what happened. Abe wants to question Adrienne at the hospital but Steve won’t hear of it. Steve takes the blame for killing Duke and says Adrienne has been through enough. He warns her not to answer any questions and Abe arrests him. Kayla doesn’t understand and tells Steve that Adrienne can provide testimony that he acted in self defense, and to protect his sister. Steve insists that he killed him and he doesn’t want Adrienne involved. Kayla is terrified for Steve. Kayla takes her to the hospital, and stays with Adrienne as she goes through tests. She still doesn't remember what happened. Jo arrives and Kayla tells her that Duke attacked her. Kayla tells Jo that Steve killed Duke and was arrested. Neil tells Kayla and Jo that Duke raped her.

Chris tells Steve he could plead justifiable homicide, but Steve refuses when he learns Adrienne would have to testify. Kayla goes to visit Steve. She tells him that Adrienne will be okay, and her and Jo will stay at Kayla’s place for a few days. She shakily tells Steve that Adrienne was raped. Steve cries in grief and pain and he blames Kayla because she stopped him from killing Duke last week.

3/9 Kayla shows up for Steve’s arraignment hearing. Steve tells her that he doesn’t have anything to say to her and doesn’t even know why she is there. Adrienne arrives next and tells Steve privately that she is sorry she can’t remember anything that happened, but she feels like this is all her fault. She shares that Jo told her what Duke did to her. She thinks she could help him get out of this mess. He tries to get her to go home but she insists that she is staying there. Frankie shows up as well to support him.

Steve is released out on bail until his sentencing. Afterwards, Adrienne begs Steve to change his mind that her and mama need him. All of her life, her mama told her about her big brother and now she has him in her life and she wants to get to know him. He is touched, but doesn’t change his mind. Kayla asks him if he will change his mind. He tells her he is done listening to her, that they aren’t on the same planet and he was a fool to ever think they were. She wants to know what Steve is hiding?

3/11 Steve tries to stop Kayla from taking Adrienne to see Kimberly for counseling, but Adrienne says she wants to remember what happened so she can help him. Steve goes with Adrienne to see Kim. He continues to fight her remembering and asks Kim why she would want to put her through remembering. Kim warns him that this will stay with Adrienne the rest of her life and Kim is sure she is strong enough to remember and deal with it and move on. Adrienne assures him that she can handle it, after all she lived with Duke her entire life.

Kayla follows Steve into the lounge as she demands to know why he is being so stubborn and why he is acting like this. He adamantly opposes pushing Adrienne to remember being raped. Kayla tells him that Steve doesn’t have to protect her from this as Adrienne knows what happened to her. She continues that Steve isn’t helping her and she doesn’t understand what happened and what kind of nightmare she suffered. Kayla points out him going to jail is only going to hurt Adrienne more. Kayla observes that this is how Steve handles problems by just pushing everyone away and hoping his feelings go away. Kayla defends that Adrienne has the guts to face what happened to her. Kayla tells him that he isn’t making any sense while he insists that he knows what he is doing!

After Adrienne’s session, Kayla tells Kim that Steve blames her for what happened and is shutting her out. Steve takes Adrienne home. Steve asks Frankie to take care of Max while he’s in jail. Steve runs into Kayla at Shenanigan’s and he tells her that her little plan didn’t work, that Adrienne didn’t remember anything. Steve wants to know why she is interferring? She yells at him because she doesn’t want to lose him!

3/13 Adrienne and Kayla don’t understand why Steve doesn’t want her to remember what happened that night. Steve comes upon them sitting together at Shenanigan’s and goes into big brother mode. He assures her that he can handle this whole thing a whole lot better than she can. After Adrienne leaves them alone, Steve reminds her that he has been telling her the whole way along that he isn’t the right man for her.

He doesn’t understand why she keeps hanging on? She observes that she should have more pride but she can’t seem to stay away from him. She admits she was wrong for stopping him from killing Duke and she wants to help and make it up to him and to Adrienne. He tells her if she wants to help to not ever take Adrienne to see Kimberly again. She knows he cares about Adrienne and he is trying to protect her. She continues that she knows he cares about her as well but he warns her to stay out of it.

Later, Steve calls the clinic wanting to talk to Adrienne. Kayla says she isn’t in. He demands to know where she is since he can’t reach her at home. He gets upset when he realizes she went back to see Kim. He flashes back to finding his traumatized sister holding the gun and heads out to look for her. He comes into the clinic just after Adrienne has returned. She tells him she had a flash of memory from that night. The ladies are encouraged that she is getting her memory back. Steve wants her to go home and rest. When she tells him she has to work, he offers to help her financially and wants her to go home. Kayla asks why he is so eager to get Adrienne away from talking to her and Kimberly and what is he afraid that she will remember? Adrienne refuses to leave and a frustrated Steve walks out.

Later at home, Steve plays a mournful harmonica. He reads the inscription from Kayla in that book she gave him. She soon arrives to see Steve. She encourages him that it is a good thing that Adrienne is starting to remember and Kayla believes she can handle the memories. She doesn’t understand why Steve is so opposed to her remembering. When she can’t get through to him, she gives up and walks out.

3/16 Kayla talks to Chris about Steve’s case. Jo answers the door to find Steve there checking up on her and Adrienne. Jo tells Steve that she is looking for a job and is fine at the moment when he asks if she needs anything. Adrienne invites him to stay and join them for lunch, she says it would be nice to spend time together as a family. He makes excuses about why he can’t stay. Adrienne then mentions finding brother Billy. Adrienne points out she found one brother, why not the other one. Jo is adamantly opposed to it and will not discuss it at all.

Kayla shows up at Steve’s again and tries to reach him. She observes that he can’t continue to ignore her. He tells her that it is over between them and she is not listening to him. He reminds her that he will be going to jail for a long time. Steve tells Kayla that she was able to stop him from killing Duke because he loved her. He realizes what he just admitted to her but she is encouraged that he mentioned love. He points out that it is in past tense. She doesn’t believe that those feelings are gone, and asks if he doesn’t remember that evening in front of the fire as they were about to make love. He says it is good they didn’t as it wouldn’t have been right, as they aren’t good for each other. He tells her that she doesn’t like his idea of what life is like, and he doesn’t like hers. He tells her to leave, but she grabs him and starts kissing him and he definitely responds to her. After he pulls away, she tells him to tell her that kiss didn’t mean anything and to try to tell her now that it is over. He says it did mean something, it was a goodbye kiss. They both cry when she leaves.

3/18 Steve runs into Kayla trying to carry Frankie’s painting that she had framed. She tells him she is doing just fine carrying it on her own. He wants to know what she is doing there? She tells him that she is meeting her date, handsome and smart. Max shows up and asks Kayla if she did it? She pats the picture and tells him it is already to enter into the art show. Max invites Steve to join them but he makes his excuses. Steve tells Frankie about Kayla entering his painting. Steve and Frankie head over to try to stop her from entering it. Steve is smug that Kayla is once again interfering in things that do not concern her. Steve asks her to make a graceful exit and he will explain things to the teacher. He tells her it wasn’t her decision to enter the painting without Frankie’s permission. She tells him it wasn’t her idea, it was Max’s.

Frankie apologizes to her but tells her the painting wasn’t for anyone else to see. The teacher tells them that he was selected as a semi-finalist! Kayla apologizes to Frankie that she didn’t mean to interfere, she was just doing Max a favor. Steve is trying to figure out why he doesn’t want to display his painting of Jennifer. He asks if it would cause a problem with Jennifer’s boyfriend. Frankie says the other kids will think him painting is stupid. Steve reassures him that he did something beautiful and he should want to show it to the whole world. Frankie decides to consider it over night.

Steve approaches Kayla at Shenanigan’s. She asks if Frankie decide to withdraw his painting? He says he will think about it first. He apologizes for getting upset with her when he didn’t know the whole story. He shakes his head though and says it isn’t worth talking about, as they don’t belong together. Kayla tells Steve she finally sees that they don’t belong together, never did and never will. Kayla says she knows sometimes it takes her awhile to catch on but after his outburst today, it finally sunk in. It proved to her once and for all that they can’t agree even for the smallest of things. She says it is good that they never really got involved. He tells her, “Goodbye Sweetness”. She stops at the door to look at him sadly and he simply looks lost.

3/20 Adrienne asks Steve if he is avoiding them because their mama won’t talk about Billy? He tells her that he is long gone and doesn’t want her to get hurt. She observes that he is afraid of being rejected of Billy not wanting to be part of their family. He blames this psycho babble on Kayla. Chris joins them and tells Steve about Adrienne making up a story to try to keep him from jail. Chris wants to know why Steve is trying to go to jail?

Kayla and Shawn arrive at the art show to support Frankie. Soon Steve arrives and he and Kayla make eyes across the room. Everyone is thrilled when Frankie’s painting wins First Place! Max asks Steve to come to the art show at his school in two weeks. Steve explains that he has to go away and he won’t be here then. Steve asks Max to take care of Kayla for him while he’s gone.

3/24 Steve cuts his hand up in a bar fight and Adrienne drags him to the clinic for treatment. A reluctant Steve shows Kayla his bloodied hand, a knife cut. As she treats him, he leans in towards her but she ignores him. Adrienne gets something in her eye and when Mike touches her arm to try to help her, she has a flashback and screams. Steve busts out of the treatment room to help her. He holds her and comforts her. She thanks him for coming to her rescue once again. She gives him a sweet kiss on the cheek and cries with relief of having her big brother by her side.

Adrienne shares her financial wows of trying to support her and her mother on her meager wages from the clinic. Kayla shares the news that she helped Jo get a job with Neil as his housekeeper. When Kayla is alone with Steve, she suspects he is going to ream her for interfering with Jo. She defensively tells him that Adrienne and Jo are her friends and she will help them if she wants to. He surprises her by thanking her for helping Jo.

3/26 Steve arrives to a meeting with Kayla, Jo and Steve. Kayla tells Steve they are trying to get his sentencing postponed so Adrienne will have more time to remember what happened. Adrienne tells him she remembers what her father did to her. Steve gets upset that they are pushing her to remember. Adrienne is sorry she can’t remember Steve shooting Duke yet. After they leave, Jo tells Steve she knows how much he hates being locked up because he was terrified of Duke locking him up as a kid. Chris tells a thrilled Adrienne and Kayla that Steve’s sentencing is postponed a week. Adrienne says she will go tell Jo and asks Kayla to tell Steve.

She walks into the Cheatin’ Heart wearing a pretty red dress and tells Steve about the delay. As she is about to leave, the bartender talks her into staying for one drink to toast the good news. They sit at a table together over a beer, neither saying a word but looking deeply into each other’s eyes. Steve and Kayla’s “Lady in Red” fantasy. She is wearing a formal red dress, and he is wearing a tux without the eye patch. He tells her he wants to spend every second of the next week with her.

3/27 Kayla runs into Steve at the hospital. They are busy so she offers to help the waiting patient and turns out to be Steve who is there for a wound recheck. He wants to get the stitches out, but she tells him that he needs to wait a few more days. He is irritated as the stitches are ruining his bank shot. She is annoyed that all he is concerned about for his final few days of freedom is playing pool. She observes she would think he would have more important things to do.

Later Steve walks into the clinic looking to take Adrienne out for lunch. Kayla tells him she is out running errands, but he is welcome to wait. A Viper gang member comes in having been shot. Steve stops her from helping him and tells her that Steve will take him to the hospital. Kayla insists on treating him. Steve tells her that he can’t be treated there as she doesn’t want to get in the middle of a gang war. She tells him that she will treat whoever walks in the door. He tells her she is going to learn this lesson the hard way as he leaves.

Two rival gang members come in and warn Kayla about treating the Viper. They plan on teaching her a lesson about minding her own business. Steve comes in just as they move in on her. When he acts to protect her, they jump him. He has just pulled out his switchblade when the cops arrive. Kayla tries to stop the cops from arresting him as Steve was defending her. The cop says he has no choice as he had a weapon and his bail is revoked.

3/30 Kayla follows the arrested Steve as he is brought to Roman’s office. Kayla tells Roman that Steve was just trying to help her. He kicks Kayla out as he wants to talk to Roman alone. Steve fills him in that yes he would have used his knife on the thugs in order to protect Roman’s sister. Roman can’t believe he was carrying a concealed weapon! Kayla interrupts and demands that Roman let him go. She determines that Roman could help Steve if he wanted to.

Roman leaves them alone in his office together. Steve tells her that it doesn’t matter he was arrested a few days early. She apologizes that she was just trying to help. Roman sends him to jail. While in jail, Steve dreams about him and Kayla dancing as they replay the “Lady in Red” fantasy. Roman releases Steve. Kayla asks Roman to bend the rules for her as what he is doing to Steve is unfair and this is exactly why Steve doesn’t believe in the system. Kayla tells him if it wasn’t for Steve that she could have been seriously hurt, and he was just protecting her. Roman tells her that is what the police are for. She says there wasn’t time to call the police, by the time they would have arrived she could have been dead!

Steve is released from jail as all the charges have been dropped. Steve is surprised at Roman’s help. He shares that he didn’t do it for Steve, he did it for his sister. Steve talks to Kayla alone in Roman’s office, and thanks her for helping him. She says it was the least she could do. He tells her he only has four days left on the outside, and he better stay away from the trouble he gets into when she is around.

4/1 Kayla is at the Fish Market when Steve comes in to see Max after he called him to come over. Max has served Kayla soup and Max wants Steve to see that he is taking care of Kayla just like Steve asked him to. Shawn lectures Steve about influencing Max. After Steve leaves, Kayla talks to her father about it. Kayla apologizes to Steve about what Shawn said. She knows who Steve really is, that he is kind and sweet and would risk his life to help someone he cares about. Steve doesn’t blame her father, as he came from the streets just like Steve did. He recognizes that Steve is just a bum and of course he wants his daughter to stay away from him. Steve asks Kayla to promise to forget him, but she refuses.

4/3 Steve tells Adrienne he doesn’t want anyone at his sentencing. Kayla stops by the Fish Market to get some comfort from her mom the day of Steve’s sentencing. She runs into Steve at Shenanigan’s and soulfully wishes him good luck. She runs into Adrienne, who tells her that Steve didn’t want her or mama to show up at his sentencing. Kayla shares that he told her not to come as well.

At the hearing, a choked up Frankie says goodbye to Steve and leaves. Jo shows up at Steve’s sentencing and refuses to leave. Steve tells her it is too late for them to be family. Steve’s sentencing begins and Kayla hides outside. Meanwhile, Adrienne remembers shooting Duke.

4/6 Soapnet Marathon Episode. Adrienne rushes up to Kayla in the courthouse hallway and tells her that she remembered! They both rush into the courtroom and stop the proceedings. Adrienne’s yells out that Steve did not kill her father, that she did! She tells Steve that he doesn’t have to protect her any longer, that she shot Duke not Steve! Adrienne tells the judge she shot her father, not Steve. The judge says they will not charge Adrienne and that the charges against Steve have been dropped.

Kayla follows Steve down to the foggy dock. She is so happy to tell him that the system did work for him. She gets upset with him when he jokes about going to prison and demands if he knows what would have happened to her if he had gone to prison? Touched, he reaches for her and kiss her. He then pushes her away and tells her that this doesn’t change anything between them. She says that him being willing to go to prison to protect his sister tells her exactly who he is. He sternly tells her that he is NOT the dude for her and she should do herself a favor and forget about him.

4/8 Adrienne doesn’t show up for work and Kayla calls Steve looking for her. Jo comes to the clinic looking for her too. Steve goes looking for her and finds her sitting on the docks. They talk about Duke. Jo tells Steve that Duke used to be sweet, like Steve. Steve worries he’ll end up being like Duke someday.

Kayla & Kim arrive and are excited to hear Bo’s big news. Bo wants to wait till Roman arrives. Kimberly tells him that he isn’t going to make it due to a big case he is working on. Just as he is about to tell that them, Roman knocks on the door. Kim grins at him as he enters. He thanks for her reminding him this is where he really needed to be.

Bo grabs a stool and gives his speech about family and how he felt that he didn’t fit in. He knows who he is now, and he knows what is important to him. He tells them at the Victor is not his father, that he is a Brady. He brings out the letter from Caroline. The girls grin ear to ear while Roman looks stunned. Kimberly & Kayla jump up and hug him. Kayla tells Steve he’s nothing like Duke. He asks how she knows? She shares that she has seen him help people, Frankie & Max, Adrienne & Jo, and herself. He asks her to think about the fact that there are some things that people just can’t run away from, and walks away.

DVD #5B 4/10 Adrienne and Jo play matchmaker between Steve and Kayla. Adrienne and Jo talk Steve into having lunch with them. He asks if Kayla is involved in this lunch deal? When they hesitate to answer, he knows they are trying to set him up. He starts to walk away and tells the them this is none of their business. Jo stops him and reminds him that he has consistently told her to own up and admit the truth. She determines that he is in love with Kayla and how long does he think a woman like Kayla is going to wait around. He gets angry and defensive. When Kayla comes up them, he points out that there is his lunch date and walks off.

Adrienne invites Kayla to join her, mama, and Steve for dinner. They are going to splurge at Blondie’s and want her to be with them. Jo goes along with Adrienne’s idea. Kayla doesn’t think Steve will like that idea. She says that Steve knows about it and they talked him into being okay with it. After Kayla leaves, Adrienne tells Jo that they both agree that Steve & Kayla belong together. Jo points out that a family dinner isn’t very romantic. Adrienne laughs and says that her and Jo won’t show up at the last minute!

Adrienne goes to Steve’s place and invites him to join her and mama for dinner at Blondie’s. He isn’t eager to agree, but she gives him a joyous happy hug and runs away shouting “7:00 pm”. Jo heads over to Blondie’s and talks to Robert and makes arrangements for Steve & Kayla to have dinner tonight. He is very sweet to her when she asks about the cost of dinner that she wants to pay for to get the estranged love birds back together, and he tells her he will add it to a lay away plan.

Later, Steve saunters up to his table for two and asks for a bigger table be set for three people. Robert brings Kayla over to join Steve. He gives them the message that Jo and Adrienne called and are unable to make it. Steve is about to walk out, and Kayla tells him that she didn’t have anything to do with this. She is about to walk out and Robert stops her and tells them that their dinner has already been ordered and prepared, and paid for by two lovely ladies who will be very disappointed. When Steve realizes it is already paid and prepared for, he agrees to join her for dinner. He romantically tells her, “Lets get this over with”!

Once they are seated, their waiter pours champagne. He realizes his family went all out for this evening. S&K’s song plays “If Your Heart Comes Out Tonight” and he asks her to dance. She smiles and looks into his eyes as he takes her in his arms. Robert is trying to kick a working girl who is at the bar. She spots and starts yelling out “Patch”. To avoid embarrassment, Steve and Kayla usher her out of there.

Steve and Kayla are outside of his place, standing in the rain. Steve points out the difference in his friends and her friends. He tells her that he grew up with that kind of person, a $20 hooker. He asks her why she can’t just walk away. Kayla says because she loves him. He tells her this isn’t good. She argues that yes it is, he is a sweet guy and very gentle. Unfortunately, he remembers what Jo told him about Duke being a sweet guy once upon a time, like Steve is. To push her away, he tells her about the first time he saw her back in her Cleveland apartment when he watched her undress. Kayla gets really quiet as he reminds her of that creepy beginning. Steve is worried that neither of them know what he’s capable of and walks away.

Kayla returns home and is thrilled to see her friend, Jack, has arrived for a visit! Meanwhile, Steve remembers Duke beating Jo. He stands in the rain and yells that he will never be like his father. He thinks of Jo telling him that he loves Kayla and why can’t he just admit it and tell her. He says to himself that his mama is right. Steve shows up at Kayla’s, but gets the wrong idea when Jack answers the door wearing a bathrobe. Jack tells him that Kayla is in the shower and asks if he wants to come in and wait. He pretends that he is there to sell a magazine subscription and refuses to leave his name and asks Jack not to tell her he came by.

4/14 Steve tells Adrienne what happened with Kayla. Adrienne is grateful that her and Steve can sit and talk. He is jealous when he sees Kayla with Jack at Shenanigan’s. Kayla is shocked when Steve asks to join her and Jack for lunch. He asks how they met and they tell him about meeting in Hawaii. He observes that they make a cute couple together. Steve makes wise cracks until Kayla has had enough and gets up to leave. When Jack stands, he passes out and is taken to the hospital. Neil is relieved to see Jack Deveraux. Kayla is surprised to learn that he is Senator Deveraux’s son. Kayla goes in to see Jack and tells him that he should have told her about having Hodgekin’s Disease.

She is surprised to see Steve still waiting. He asks if her friend is going to be okay? She asks what he was doing at her door pretending to sell magazine subscriptions? He says he doesn’t remember what he wanted to ask her. He points out that she met the senator’s son at a fancy resort and she wouldn’t find anyone like Steve at one of those.

Adrienne tells Jo about Steve seeing Kayla with Jack at lunch. Jo is thrilled as this might be what Steve needs to wake him up! Adrienne is more worried that he could lose her forever.

4/16 Steve comes into the clinic and Adrienne tells him that Kayla isn’t there as he is looking around. He asks her what she knows about this “Jack dude”. Adrienne has a big smile on her face at his interest. She shares that he is staying at Neil’s and as far as she can tell, Jack and Kayla are just friends. Steve says he looks like a paper doll and they look perfect together. Adrienne reminds him that Kayla loves Steve. He observes that she fits better with the senator’s son. He asks Adrienne if she felt like she belonged the other night when she came into Blondie’s. She admits she didn’t but it was only because she wasn’t dressed right. Steve tries to explain that there is a wall between them and he can’t cross over into her world and he doesn’t want to drag her into his.

Kayla visits Jack in the hospital. He doesn’t like to tell people about his disease as they start treating him differently. She tells him that he can’t be released until at home nursing care has been arranged.

Adrienne tells Kayla about Justin, the construction worker that she met in the park. She tells her about his invitation to join him for a walk in the park. Kayla asks her if she is scared? She imagines that it could take a long time for Adrienne to get over what happened to her. She encourages Adrienne to just be friends with him. Kayla points out that Steve has all these walls up to avoid being hurt, but if Adrienne does that then it also stops her from being loved and it is worth the chance of being hurt.

Steve comes in and tells Adrienne that she is right. He points out that just because he wants to be alone that doesn’t mean she should be. He asks Kayla if she has met this guy and she says no. He wants to know which construction company he works for and his name as Adrienne groans. He tells her that he will check him out and that is just what big brothers do. Kayla grimaces in agreement that hers do. Steve brings Adrienne some flowers to wear in her hair to make her first date with this guy special. She cries in gratitude and gives him a big hug. Steve asks Kayla out to eat that night and she looks at him with hopeful surprise. But before she can respond, Jack comes in and tells her the limo is waiting. Steve is invited to join them but declines.

4/20 Steve comes into the clinic looking for Adrienne. He tells Kayla that he wanted to ask how her date went? Kayla says she didn’t want to pry but Adrienne looked pretty happy today. Kayla tells Steve about Bo & Hope leaving and that they are going to sail off into the sunset from Pier 19. Steve goes to tell them goodbye.

A man holds a gun on Hope on the yacht. Bo returns to the boat and starts fighting the attacker. Steve arrives just in time and joins the fight to help Bo fight off the attacker. Kayla arrives at the boat and sees Steve and Bo hugging their goodbye. Steve and Kayla say their goodbyes to Bo and Hope. Bo and Hope sail off into the sunset as Steve and Kayla wave goodbye.

4/21 After Bo & Hope have left, Steve reassures Kayla that Bo will be okay and he will keep showing up like a bad penny. He wants to see her home safe and points out that he promised Bo and asks her not to give him a hard time. They walk along the pier in a rare outdoor location shot.

Steve tells her that happily ever after dreams are just for people like the Bradys. Kayla points out that if he wants it, then it can happen. Kayla gets angry and says that he feels he has to pushes himself for some unknown reason. If he doesn’t stop doing that then he is right, his dreams will never come true. He tells her all of his dreams have come true, they are just nightmares. She is tired of him pushing her away and tells him she doesn’t need him anymore and walks away.

Steve takes Joannie and her son out for his birthday. Steve runs into Jack and Kayla having a picnic in the park. He observes that they look like a magazine ad. He watches from a distance as Jack and Kayla use an astronomy book and star gaze.

4/22 (Note: Reduced quality glitchy but only :3 mins of Kayla scenes added). Kayla arrives the day of Kim’s wedding to Paul. She questions Kim about going through with the wedding but Kim suggests she is very happy. Note, they did not air the wedding ceremony and it is not included.

4/24 Kayla sees Kim & Paul together and says to Jack that maybe she should follow Kim’s example and move on from a relationship that keeps going around and around. Jack says that works for him. Kayla tells Kim she’s going to let Steve go. Kim tells her not to make her decision based on the choices Kim is making.

A couple of goons are beating Justin up, and Steve saves him from his attackers. Justin and Jack hear the residents on the riverfront telling Steve that their water and power have been cut off by the Kiriakis’/Deveraux’s and that they are being thrown out. Adrienne shows Steve the check for $100 that she won. When she finds out what’s going on she tells him to use the money for them. He cooks chili for everyone on the riverfront with the money. Steve serves chili and tells the riverfront people they’re going to make sure those rich jerks don’t take away their homes.

Jack and Kayla come in together to the Cheatin’ Heart. Steve fills Jack in on what is going on in the waterfront. Jack tells Steve and the others their power should be back on before tonight. Steve asks what happens when they are kicked out and moved to another neighborhood. Jack tells Steve he’ll go to city hall in the morning to see what he can do to help. Steve invites them to stay for chili, but adds more peppers to Jack’s. Kayla tells Steve she thinks what he’s doing is a good thing, but he tries to blow it off. Jack has a spell at the Cheatin’ Heart. Steve worries his chili caused Jack’s spell, but Jack says he likes it hot and Kayla takes him home.

4/28 Chris wakes Kayla up when he catches her sleeping at Shenanigan’s and questions her about why she’s so tired. She tells him about taking on a private client and working at the Emergency Center. He accuses her of running away from something, and she says it’s Steve and it’s not working. Kayla tells Chris that staying busy helped her get over him years ago, but it doesn’t seem to work with Steve.

Jack knocks on Steve’s door, even when Steve yells he’s not home. Jack wants to work with Steve to help the people on the riverfront by having Steve act as the liaison between the people and the business. Steve says he’s not interested and Jack wants to know. Steve tells Jack not to call him Patch and that he’s not going to help him because he doesn’t believe he really wants to help the riverfront people.

Kayla shows up at Steve’s as he is throwing Jack out saying she’s looking for Jack. Jack tells Kayla that Steve won’t work with him. Kayla goes to talk to Steve to try to convince him to work with Jack. Steve doesn’t believe that Jack cares about regular people, he is only interested in daddy’s bank account. Kayla accuses Steve of not wanting to work with Jack as he is jealous of him. Of course he denies it, so Kayla dares him to prove it by agreeing to work with Jack.

Jack tells Kayla he knows she is crazy about Steve and that Steve feels the same. She tells him that was true once. Steve joins Jack and Kayla at Shenanigan’s and tells Kayla and Jack that he’s changed his mind and will work with Jack to help the riverfront. Jack says he, Steve, and Kayla will be spending a lot of time together and wants to know if they have a problem with that. Both of them agree that it won’t be a problem.

4/29 Jack introduces Angelica to their new liaison, Steve Johnson. Privately, Angelica doubts Jack’s choice of Steve as their liaison. Jack points out that Steve has a lot of influence on the waterfront and he can either motivate people to support or oppose their project. Later, Jack is wearing a tux and Kayla is elegant in a black and white cocktail dress in preparation for his dinners with politicians to obtain the necessary funding. Jack makes it clear he is interested in her.

An excited Jo tells Adrienne that Steve has a new job helping Jack Deveraux finding homes for the displaced waterfront people. Steve comes into Shenanigan’s and joins them. Adrienne congratulates him on his new job. He says he is worried that this is just a waste of time. He thinks Jack is just going to play patty cake with politicians. Jo points out that is how things get done.

Steve meets with a couple of guys who are faced with losing their homes the next month. Kayla comes in wearing her gorgeous dress and sits with Adrienne as Steve watches her from across the room. Jack soon comes in and joins Kayla. Jack is disappointed that Steve chose to drink beer with his buddies over joining them this evening. Kayla defends Steve’s choices. He realizes she really cares about Steve and asks her to clarify her feelings for him? She says she is confused. Jack goes over to Steve’s table to make a crack about him not going with them tonight. Steve introduces him to the two riverfront guys who have lost their cannery jobs and faced with losing their homes.

4/30 Steve brings a woman to Kayla at her place, she has been bitten by a rat. Steve blames the riverfront project for tearing down rat infested buildings. Steve and Kayla take her to the hospital for treatment. They argue about their methods of helping the people on the riverfront. Steve accuses Jack is just a phony and she can’t see it yet. She tells him that he doesn’t know a damn thing and accuses HIM of being naive. He laughs at the idea as she yells at him to get his head out of the clouds and she storms off to take the stairs.

A flustered Steve follows her to continue arguing as he tells her she is an overgrown girl scout. She tells him that his plan of putting rats in the Deveraux offices is immature and idiotic. As they are arguing, they come across a cowering beaten Diana (play by Genie Francis). Diana begs Kayla to get Mike Horton and Kayla rushes up the stairs. Diana holds at fork at Steve to keep him at bay. He tries to reassure her that he won’t let the goons after her get within two feet of her and easily takes the fork away from her. He observes that they have really worked her over as he sees the bruises on her face.

Kayla returns with Mike and Diana rushes into his arms telling him they tried to kill her and she can’t stay at the hospital any longer. She tells him that one of her guards try to kill her. He is shocked as they are Salem PD officers. Mike offers to take her back to her place but she says no that they know they are friends and that is the first place they will look for her at Kayla offers to let Diana hide at her loft. Steve doesn’t like that idea as it puts Kayla in danger. Steve offers his place as it would be safer and under ground. They decide she will go with Kayla and then she can look after Diana. Steve demands Diana tell them who is after her since they’re putting their lives on the line. She says it will put them in too much danger and asks them to trust her that she knows what she is doing. Steve complains that he doesn’t even know her and he says he won’t wait long for the information.

Steve wanders downstairs in the loft and he has memories of kissing Kayla the night she was drunk and fell asleep on him. Kayla comes downstairs and Steve tells her how worried he is about something happening to Kayla. He thinks someone put a hit out on Diana. Steve says Diana can put her own life on the line but he isn’t okay with her putting Kayla at risk. Kayla determines that she will be allright, and he states that he is going to make sure she is safe.

5/1 Kayla appreciates Steve’s concern for her and Diana but assures him they will be fine. Steve reminds her that she doesn’t know what she is even up against. He is going to stay at the loft to keep an eye on both of them to make sure they are safe. Kayla tells him that she would like that. Jack shows up at the loft wondering why Steve didn’t show up for their meeting. Kayla almost tells him about Diana, but Mike stops her. Diana tells Mike, Steve, and Kayla about the explosion that killed her friend James. She describes the man with the braid that she saw, and that James had been to Salem before he died.

Steve and Kayla meet with Jack on the dock. Steve gives him the people’s demands. While Steve and Jack are talking, Kayla has a daydream about her and Steve sailing and having a romantic time together, kissing and enjoying being together on the boat. (Note: Love that they filmed a fantasy scene for S&K while they had already rented the boat for B&H’s sail away scenes). Jack leaves and as she turns to go, Steve stops her from leaving.

5/4 Frankie tells Kayla that Kim and Shane are getting married tonight. Kim asks Kayla to be her maid of honor. Note: Kim and Shane’s wedding though I did not include the full long wedding ceremony available on a separate episode dvd. Jack asks Steve about his relationship with Kayla. Steve tells Jack that the coast is clear for him and he can have Kayla.

Steve shows up at the Neil’s place for a meeting with Jack but laughs as Jo answers the door as he didn’t realize the reception was being held there and isn’t dressed for it. Kim throws her bouquet and Kayla catches it as Steve watches from the doorway. Jack declares that Kayla is the next to get married!

5/6 Steve shows up at the Deveraux’s and tries to take Angelica with him. He tells her that he wants to show her some choice pieces of real estate. He grabs her and tries to forcefully take her out but Angelica threatens to call the police. Kayla discourages him and says that he really shouldn’t do this. Steve picks Angelica up and throws her over his shoulder and carries her out, as Kayla stands at the door smiling. He has basically kidnaped Angelica and she screams at Kayla to call the police. When Jack comes home, Kayla tells him that Steve has taken Angelica on a tour of the run down apartments. Jack is surprised that Angelica agreed to go with Steve. Kayla shares that she didn’t exactly agree to go with him.

Jack warns Kayla that this is going to back fire as Angelica will do the opposite of what Steve wants just to spite him. Kayla tells Jack where Steve and Angelica are and they head over to the riverfront to get her. Angelica is furious with Steve and promises to call the police if he tries to stop her from leaving. Then she suddenly jumps in Steve’s arms when she sees a huge rat. He makes her look at this filth that her redevelopment project is forcing people to move into. He yells that she wouldn’t last one day in a place like this. Jack shows up and tells Steve to knock it off. She says she’s more determined than ever to tear the place down and build luxury condos in it’s place. Jack tells Steve he may have ruined their plans to help the riverfront people. Out on the street, they come upon a log on fire. Steve gets the fire put out and Jack and Steve bond while moving the logs out of the street. Kayla smiles softly to herself watching the two men she cares about developing a friendship.

5/8 Kayla comes over to check up on Jack and make sure he is resting. Jack teases her about taking a nap and having fairy tale story time with Steve as Steve laughs. Kayla is carrying her gown for the gala that night and asks Steve to come. Calliope arrives and tells Steve and Kayla that Eugene had a premonition that something bad is going to happen to them at the gala tonight. Calliope tells them that Eugene flashed on Steve and Kayla and that they are both in danger. Steve snarks that he isn’t going to be there, and Kayla says she is leaving for a medical conference and not staying for the whole thing. Calliope tries to talk Kayla out of going. She has to go to see Mike get his award. Calliope is going to try to find Angelica to get her to cancel the gala.

Steve insists on walking Kayla home and carries her gown. She tells him she feels bad about going out of town for this medical seminar and asks him to check on Diana while she is gone. He doesn’t really believe in Eugene’s vibes but does ask her to be careful on her trip. He says he wants to see her in her gown, but she says not unless he goes to the gala. Steve scares Diana when he drops by to check on her. He apologizes for scaring her. Steve finds her engagement ring. She apologizes for being so jumpy and tells him that he should be around her some time when people aren’t trying to kill her and she is a lot more fun. She cries and is very upset, and he is very sweet and gentle as he comforts her.

Kayla and Jack arrive at the gala, in a beautiful outdoor garden setting. Jack tells her that she is incredibly beautiful. Calliope interrupts them dancing and tells them not to stop as it makes it harder for a snipper to hit them. Calliope reminds her that she promised to leave as soon as she saw Mike and Kayla agrees. Steve shows up at the gala wearing his casual clothes. When he spots her standing alone, he approaches her and stands nearby. The ceremony honoring Dr. Mike begins and his research grant at the lab is mentioned. Kayla is approached with a message for Mike to go to the lab in 10 minutes, something important to do with research.

Kayla realizes Mike is going to be late due to the ceremony and she decides to walk over to the lab before she goes to her car and let Harry know that Mike will be late on her way out of town. Steve says he is going to walk over with her. They go by the lab and Kayla thanks him for walking her there. She tells him that Harry works in the basement. She tries to say goodbye to Steve and thanks him for walking her over. Just as Kayla enters the building, an explosion is heard. Steve rushes in after her and runs towards her as the ceiling collapses on them both.

5/11 Steve and Kayla are trapped in the rubble but no one realizes they are there. Steve searches for Kayla in the rumble and finds her injured and unconscious. He works desperately to free her. He leans down to feel her pulse crying, “Baby baby!” Steve takes care of her as she cries and moans in pain. She tells him that he has to stop her bleeding. She notices he is bleeding and wants to try to look at the cut on his face. He laughs that it will ruin his modeling career. He talks to her calmly that they are trapped but they have to conserve their oxygen and he tries to get her to calm down. When more debris begins to rain down on them, he moves over her to cover her.

He holds her and comforts her. She cries that he is trapped that because of her but he tells her that he is glad that he is. She admits that she is glad too that he is with her. Steve and Kayla lay trapped in the rubble as he holds the bleeding Kayla in his arms in tight quarters. Kayla is frantic, scared and in pain and cries that nobody knows they are there and no one will know to come looking for them. He tries to get her to play poker to get her mind off of their situation.

5/12 Kayla has a fever and lays moaning in Steve’s arms as he is powerless to help her. Steve gets frustrated at watching her suffer and gets up to try to get help but he dives back over to protect Kayla as they have another cave in. Kayla begins trembling and telling him she is freezing cold. He wraps her up and puts his arms around her trying to keep her warm. As Kayla grows weaker and their situation grows more dire with each cave in. Steve cries in terror and says he would do anything for her. He sobs as he tells a delirious Kayla that he loves her. She moans his name, “Steve”. He keeps reassuring her and trying to keep her calm and then she passes out and is non-responsive as he cries her name and begs her to stay with him!

5/13 Jo and Adrienne wonder where Kayla is. Adrienne says she was supposed to come back from her conference last night. Jack overhears them talking and tells them that he is worried. He reports that he called her parents and they haven’t heard from her and no one seems to know where she is and he doesn’t like it. Jo determines that Steve would know exactly where Kayla is and Jack heads off to find Steve. Adrienne has the info on where Kayla was staying for the conference and they head to the clinic to follow up that lead.

Kayla has the “Lady in Red” fantasy while she is fevered. Steve tries to bring down Kayla's fever. Kayla asks Steve if she’s dreaming because she heard him say he loved her. She asks him if he said that? She says to herself that she must be dreaming and if she is, she hopes she never wakes up as he sweetly kisses her head. In a moment of lucidness, Kayla asks Steve why he doesn’t let others see his sweet side. He tells her they can continue that argument when they get out of there. Kayla starts to panic and tells him she can’t breath. He yells at her that they aren’t going to die in there.

Later Jack calls Adrienne and reports that no one has seen Steve either and is mailed box is stuffed full. She tells him that Kayla never showed up for the conference. Jack tells Mike about Steve and Kayla both being missing and he just found her car with her suitcase parked. Mike tells him the last time he saw her was the night of the gala. They look at each other and realize they are trapped under the lab. Kayla tells Steve that she wants him to know in case they don’t make it, how much she cares about him. She begs him to tell her that he loves her, she wants to hear him say it. At that moment, they hear shouting from above.

Jack has arrived and begins digging through the rubble. He is soon joined by Adrienne and Jo. Steve reassures her that there are people up there and they are going to find them. Mike, Roman, Shane all arrive and they all begin digging as Jack tells them he heard something down below. The rescuers open up an air shaft and relieved S&K breathe in fresh hair. Everyone up above freezes when they hear rumbling and the sounds of a collapse. Steve yells up above and they hear him and respond. They lower a wench down and tell Steve to put it around Kayla first. Steve gives Jack credit for saving the day. She says no as she looks at him. He tells her the important thing is she is going home. He yells at them to slow down and be careful as they hoist her up.

Next Steve is pulled up as his very relieved mother hugs him in relief. Harper arranges for Jack to get the credit for rescuing Steve and Kayla. Jo says that Steve should be over there talking to the media, and Steve snaps, “No, thank you!” He observes that they got their hero as Kayla is taken away by ambulance.

5/14 Steve is checked out at the hospital and given the all clear. Kayla comes into his room and demands to know why Steve hasn’t been to see her in the hospital. Kayla wants Steve to admit he said he loved her. Steve refuses to say the words and says that people say all sorts of stuff when they think they are going to die. He claims he just wanted to make her feel better. She asks him if he really hates her that much? Surprised, he says he doesn’t hate her. She asks him for once and for all to tell her how he feels about her? Does he not want anything to do with her? Does he care about her? She insists that he told her he loved her and she demands that he stop lying to her. She yells at him as she pounds on his chest.

Steve grabs her arms to stop her attack and Jack interrupts them demanding to know what is going on here. Steve tells him it is nothing but a misunderstanding and it is none of his damn business. Jack declares that she is weak and while he knows that they have business between them to figure out, does Steve have to start on her now? He agrees that he shouldn’t have started anything, and Jack takes her back to her room. An FBI agent comes in the room and flashes his badge at Steve and demands that he come with him. Daniels, Simon Hopkins, and Harper Deveraux tell Steve that there is a contract out against Mike’s life. Steve is shocked to hear they want him to “kill” Harper so he can find out who is after Mike. They will make all the arrangements and provide the gun. Steve resists as everyone will think he killed the senator. They tell him that he is in a lot of danger and so is Kayla Brady.

Steve comes to see a sleeping Kayla in the hospital and sweetly kisses her forehead as she sleeps. He softly says he is going to take care of her and won’t let anything happen to her. Steve calls and tells them that he will do it. They celebrate Steve agreeing and Kai removes the Harper mask showing that Steve has just been set up to murder the senator.

5/15 Steve approaches Jack and Kayla at a table at Blondie’s. Kayla tells Steve that Jack has arranged for a reporter to tell the true story of Steve and Kayla’s ordeal. Steve wants to just leave it alone, the newspaper has their story. Jack says that Kayla has shared that Steve was the real hero and she doesn’t think she would have gotten out of their alive without him. Steve pulls Kayla away to talk to her privately. Steve asks if she told anyone about the message she intercepted for Mike? She says just Roman, and he told Mike. Steve warns her not to tell anyone else, especially not that reporter. Kayla realizes that he knows something about the explosion and wants details. He asks her why she can’t just do what he asks her for once.

He walks back over to the reporter and makes a deal to tell his story in return for coverage of the situation with people losing their homes on the waterfront and the housing project. Kayla follows Steve after the interview. She stops him and demands to know why she can’t tell anyone about Mike’s message. He refuses to tell her and asks her to stay out of it.
