DVD #21A Jack is very sick and delirious. He's shocked when he sees the orderly. It is none other than his brother Steve!

6/12 Jack sees Steve at his hospital. He thinks he's delirious at first, but then he knows for sure he's seeing his "dead" brother. One problem. Steve doesn't remember him and thinks he is hallucinating. Jack begins having severe seizures. Caroline calls Kaya and fills her in on Bo & Hope’s troubles and begs her to come home that her family needs her. Her mother understands that it is painful for her to be in Salem due to her memories of Steve. Papa Shawn asks Caroline if Kayla will be coming home for Frankie & Jenn’s wedding. Caroline says she doesn’t know.

6/13 Kayla reminisces about life with Steve while the song "The Rose" plays in the background. She has flashbacks to the day they were wed, the day she cold-cocked him while play boxing and him singing while signing the song "The Rose" to her. Kayla's thoughts are interrupted by and unexpected phone call from Jennifer. Jen invites Kayla to come back to Salem for the wedding. She assures her that the memories came be comforting, and makes her feel closer to Jack. After some consideration Kayla agrees to return home. Jennifer reports the good to news to Caroline (it was her favour to ask Jen to call and invite Kayla).

"Steve" tries to convince Jack that he is not Stephen Earl Johnson. Blames it on the amount of drugs that Jack is on which could cause hallucinations. Also that seeing dead loved ones happens in end-stage illness, the body's effort to help the one dying cross over to the other side. Jack retaliates by telling "Steve" that he is one this side not the other one. Jack offers to prove to Steve who he is by calling his wife Kayla. "Steve" responds, "Oh good I have a wife now" and tells Jack to call her. Jack says he does not know the number. "Steve" tells him to call Jen then. Jack refuses stating that Jen has already grieved the loss of him and he does not want to hurt her further. Jack the pulls out a locket and ask "Steve" to tell him who that is inside. “Steve" responds, "Your wife". Jack believes that "Steve" remembers but "Steve" tells him that he assumed that was who she was. Jack is running out of options so asks "Steve" to grant him a dying wish, a DNA test to prove that they are indeed blood brothers. Steve agrees.

6/15 Kayla comes home to Caroline and Grandpa Shawn. She urges Bo to reconcile with Hope. Bo longs to be with his wife, but Hope is determined to divorce. When Hope goes to Frankie and Jennifer's pre-wedding party, Kayla implores her sister-in-law to give Bo another chance. Before Hope gives in, tipsy Chelsea crashes the party. The DNA test proves that Steve is Jack's brother. But Steve has no memory of Jack, or his life with Kayla. Jack urges Steve to go back to Salem but he refuses. Then Steve makes Jack a deal: he'll go back to Salem if Jack will. Jack reluctantly agrees.

6/16 Hope and Kayla bring Jennifer home from the party. Kayla and Jennifer reminisce about their late husbands. They miss them terribly. Kayla and Jennifer tell Hope how painful it is to lose your husband to death. At least Hope's husband is alive. She has to do whatever she can to reconcile with Bo. (So nice to see these ladies reunited!) Jack and Steve are getting ready to go home to Salem. Once they're sure Jack will survive the trip, they head out. Jack shows Steve a photo of Kayla. Steve has a pronounced reaction. He doesn't remember her, but he can't believe he was married to such a beautiful woman.

6/19 Kayla enjoys fond memories of Steve as she thinks back to their wedding. Kayla and Jennifer talk. Meanwhile, Jack and Steve are headed back to Salem. Steve has talked Jack into seeing Jennifer and letting her know he is actually alive. Steve asks Jack to tell him about Kayla, the wife he doesn’t remember.

6/20 The big day has finally arrived and the lots of activity at Jennifer’s as Kayla helps her prepare the morning of her wedding. Kayla reaches out to Chelsea and suggests they talk and get to know each other later. Chelsea is surprised as no one else in this family wants anything to do with her. Kayla knows how much her little brother cares for Chelsea so there must be something in her to like. Kayla tells Chelsea they will talk more after the reception. Vodka is delivered for the reception and Chelsea helps herself to a flask.

Kayla answers the door with, “Oh my god is it really you?” And a fade to black without seeing who is at the door. Is it Steve? No, it is a recasted Jo Johnson. They talk about Jennifer getting remarried, and Kayla being home. Kayla tells her it is only for a couple of days for the wedding and then she is off to work at a medical clinic in Africa.

The ladies gather, Kayla, Hope, Caroline are helping Jennifer get dressed. Maggie brings in Mrs. H as Jennifer steps out from behind the dressing screen in her wedding dress as everyone ohh and awww. Steve and Jack continue their journey to Salem. Jack is having second thoughts about just showing up unannounced; after all, he doesn't want to shock anyone. He asks Steve for a cell phone so he can call Jen. Steve looks at him bewildered and sort of laughs stating "Like the sound of your voice won't be a shock". Jack calls anyway, and Chelsea answers the phone. She refuses to believe Jack and is even more skeptical when Jack tells her that he is bringing Steve Johnson with him. She tells him Jennifer is busy and promptly hangs up on him. Everyone arrives at the church including Jack and Steve, who are unaware of the wedding about to take place inside. The bridesmaids begin to walk down the aisle as Kayla sits with her brother, Bo. They both have flashbacks to their own weddings.

6/21 Jack and Steve have arrived outside the church. Jack wants to say a prayer before going home to see his family. Also, Jack thinks seeing the church will help jog Steve's memory. Steve and Jack refrain from entering, aware a wedding is going on. Inside the church, the bridesmaids begin to walk down the aisle as Kayla sits with her brother, Bo. They both have flashbacks to their own weddings. Kayla has emotional memories of her life with Steve. Overwhelmed, she tells Caroline that she has to go out to get some air. As she leaves, we think she sees Steve, but it is Roman. They have an emotional brother and sister reunion.

Later, Kayla places flowers on Steve's grave, and breaks down in tears. Kayla notices Zack's grave. As she goes over, Steve moves in and sees his own gravestone. Steve hears a woman crying in the graveyard. He goes to see if he can help. Kayla turns and comes face to face with her dead husband! Jack is thunderstruck when he walks in on Jennifer and Frankie's wedding! Jennifer is blindsided, as she sees Jack in the back of the church. She cries out in shock.

6/22 At Jennifer and Frankie's wedding, everyone reels at seeing Jack alive! He had no idea he was walking in on Jennifer and Frankie's wedding. Abby is thrilled to see her father. She knew he'd come back to them! Tearful Jack breaks the bad news. He's still dying. He doesn't have much time left. He only came back to say goodbye. Jennifer is very upset. Why did Jack leave them? He wanted to spare them the pain of watching him die. He wanted Jennifer to move on with her life with Frankie. In tears, Jennifer asks why Jack changed his mind? Jack realizes there's something important he forget to tell them. His brother Steve is also alive!

Kayla sees Steve in the churchyard. At first, she thinks she's dreaming, but she soon sees he's real. He's alive! Steve knows from her photo that this is Kayla, but he doesn't remember her as his wife. He doesn't recall their child or the life they shared together. He says this isn’t possible, as he doesn’t remember any of this. He is Nick Stockton and has been for years. He tells her about a patient recognizing him. He continues to share about a terminal patient, Jack Deveraux, insisted on a DNA test to prove he was his brother. They returned to Salem together. Kayla realizes Jack is also alive! Steve tells Kayla that he returned to bring Jack home to his family. He sadly tells her that he doesn’t know her or any of the Bradys. Kayla tells him that her family loves him, and she loves him. She tells him that when he died, a huge part of her died with him and she failed to move on without him. She could never love anyone else and never got over his death.

He tells her that Jack isn’t doing so well. That is one of the reasons he came back, to say goodbye to his family. Kayla comments how sad that is, for him to return just to lose him all over again. Kayla runs into Steve’s arms and swears she won’t let him go. He pushes her away and says this isn’t going to work as he doesn’t know her. She grabs her wallet and starts showing him pictures of their wedding, honeymoon, as a family with baby Stephanie. Kayla promises she will help him get his memory back. He asks what if its a life he doesn’t want. He tells her that Jack has already tried to help him get his memory back by telling him stories and showing him pictures, but that didn’t work. Kayla observes that Jack couldn’t do this, and she pulls Steve into a soul-stirring kiss!

6/23 Steve responds to Kayla's kiss. She asks what he thinks afterwards. He observes that it was good, a beautiful kiss and he doesn’t know how any man could forget a woman like her. He is deeply drawn to her, but he still doesn't remember her or the life they shared together. He tells her that he can’t give her false hope that things could ever be the way they used to be. He tells her that the only reason he came back was to help Jack. He never expected to see her again, she was supposed to be in LA. He tells her. Everyone in the church is rocked when Jack shares the news that he came here with his brother Steve, who is alive! Jo is amazed at this miracle that both of her sons have come back to her and sobs in his arms. Someone says, “Oh my god where is Kayla?”

They all go out to greet Steve, who is overwhelmed by all these strangers who claim to be his family and friends. Steve reunites with his mother. Jo can't believe that her two dead sons have come back to her! Kayla introduces Steve to Frankie and Max, and Frankie tells him the nicknames he used to call them. Bo interrupts to laugh that Steve used to call him Beuregard. Bo tells him how much he was missed. Hope approaches him and tells him how much they all love and care for him. She assures him that he will remember that love even if it doesn’t feel like it right now. He laughs like she has any idea what this feels like. She assures him that actually she does. He laughs and asks if that is a joke. She tells him that she did find her way back to the man she loved, that it wasn’t easy but was destiny.

Steve sits next to Jack and tells him this is one whacked out group. Kayla confides in Jennifer that she couldn't bring herself to ask Steve if there's been another woman in his life. Jennifer assures her friend that Steve will remember his love for her and the two of them will be together forever. Kayla is saddened to hear that Jack is still dying. He is in bad shape.

6/26 Jennifer and Frankie bring Steve, Jack, Kayla, Abby, Jo and Max back to the house. Everyone is happy that Jack is alive. The house is decorated for the wedding reception and Jo suggests they take the decorations down. Jack just wants to be home with his family but stops them from making any changes. Steve helps Jack up to bed. Kayla worries to Jo that Steve will never remember her. She tells Jo how happy she is that she got both of her boys back, but is sorry that Jack is still dying. When Steve comes downstairs, he stares at Kayla. He tells her what a beautiful woman she is, and he was one lucky man. He never thought he would have answers about his past and who he was. She asks to answer his questions, she offers to tell him everything about his life before, them and his family.

6/27 Steve tells Kayla about his first memories after everyone thought he was dead. She asks him what really happened the day he supposedly died? We see a flashback as he tells her he has no idea how he wound up in a motel room. He woke up with no memories, just a wallet with $500 and a photo ID with his picture saying he was “Nick Stockton”. He went to the address on his ID in Cincinnati. When he arrived someone ambushed him and he woke up in a hospital, another flashback. At the hospital, he found a new lease on life and decided to pursue a career there. Her heart breaks thinking of him all alone with no friends or family. He tells her the hospital staff took great care of him. He wanted to thank them so he began volunteering there and turned into a paid job and they helped him find a place to live.

6/28 Jennifer, Frankie and Abby join Steve and Kayla as Jack comes down the stairs. He's decided he wants to go to a hospice to die. Jack declares that it was a mistake for him to come back and if he had know she was marrying Frankie that he never would have come home. Jennifer cries that this wasn’t a mistake. Kayla gives Jack credit for getting Steve to take the DNA test and bringing him home, and now way that was a mistake. Steve observes that Jack has had new life since he started talking about coming home. Frankie says no way is he going to let Jack walk out on his family again. Jack does not want them to have to watch him die. Jennifer accuses him of being selfish.

Kayla and Steve walk outside together to talk. He warns her that if Jack does leave, that he will go with him as it is his job to take care of Jack. She tells him that he is her husband and she asks for a chance to take care of him. She feels responsible that she should have known he was still alive. He asks her if doesn’t she think he wants to remember? He has tired and can’t, he can’t go back, his past has no meaning for him now. He breaks her heart when he tells her that she isn’t his wife anymore. She argues that they are still legally married. He points to the grave stone and says that he is pretty sure that means he was declared legally dead and they are no longer married.

Kayla can’t believe he is considering leaving. She insists that she can’t loose him again, she can’t let him go. He tells her that he can’t force it. She tells him that she has loved him for a very long time, and has never stopped, and she never will. She smiles about him having issues about being tied down and so his resistance is not all that surprising. So she points out that he really hasn’t changed all that much. He asks if would the man he was fight for what they had? She doesn’t understand why he won’t stay and try. He doesn’t understand why someone as beautiful and together as she is want anything to do with someone like him. She tells him there are a million reasons why she loves him. She asks him to let her try to help him remember and to trust her. He agrees to give it a try.

6/29 Kayla sees Steve outside of the pub and he tells her that Jack is staying in Salem. She is happy as this will give them some time together. She asks him to come with her and she takes him down to the yacht moored on the docks, the same one they got married on. Kayla tries to jog Steve's memory by telling him about that day, of course with flashbacks. She continues with a magical mystery tour through Salem with more flashbacks. Next stop, she takes him to the jail cell where she almost gave birth to Stephanie. He can’t believe she was ever in jail. She tells him they had three weddings. Their first wedding was declared invalid when his presumed dead ex wife showed up. Their second wedding was interrupted when she was arrested for the not so dead ex-wife.

She went into labor and almost delivered in the courtroom, they barely made it to the hospital. She tells him that there was prison break, and they fled the country when Stephanie was kidnapped. He looks stunned and asks if she is kidding? She tells him that they were SO happy together and she knows they could be that happy again. She tells him how overwhelming all of this must be for him. She can’t stop thinking about the day she lost him cue the flashback! Kayla says that him returning home is a miracle. She shares that he is the only man she has ever really loved. Back at the pub, she asks if he wants to come in for a drink. He begs off saying he needs to get back to Jack, who is a big baby about taking his meds. She kisses his cheek and he has a flash of memory of her kissing him back in the 80’s. She sees the look on his face and hopefully asks him if he remembers something? He does not respond. (I went back to the complete episode to make sure he doesn’t say anything, but no he does not tell her that he remembers anything at all).

6/30 They are enjoying breakfast at the pub, he tells her that while it was a sweet kiss there were no sudden blinding memories of the past. He is afraid that he is not ever going to remember. He doesn’t want her to think that her husband is back as he is not. She is okay with just having him sitting across the table from her. He asks her to tell him more about the past, about Stephanie. He realizes that Stephanie does not remember him. Kayla says no that she was a baby when he died. He asks her to tell him about his daughter. She tells him that she is strong and independent and shows him some more pictures. He wants to know what she does for work. Kayla tells him that she hates her career. After the break, he smiles that he didn’t know what he expected her to say but it was NOT that! Kayla admits that she was pretty upset when Stephanie told her what she wanted to do with her life, but she is pretty stubborn when she makes up her mind about something. He kinda proudly states that she takes after her papa. Steve asks if he can meet her? Kayla says of course but she hasn’t been able to reach her to tell her Steve is alive and she isn’t returning Kayla’s phone calls as she tries once again to reach her. Steve comments that she is worried.

7/4 Kayla thanks Steve for coming out with her on the 4th of July. She tries to get Steve to remember Fourth of July parties from the past by telling him stories. She is trying to fill him in on who is who in Salme. He is frustrated as he still can't remember. Kayla hopes that today will be the day he gets his memories back. She shows him the river and pier, and tells him that boats and the pier have special memories for them. She has another wedding flashback as she tells him more about their first wedding. She says that they spent their first 4th of July with Baby Stephanie on this very same pier. They are a new scene but as a flashback. The fireworks wake up the sleeping baby and he picks her up and quiets her as he kisses Kayla sweetly (this did not air in 1990 and is a made up new scene airing for the first time in 2006).

Back in real time, Steve comments that he quieted the baby leading Kayla to happily rejoice that he remembered! She hugs him delighted saying she knew he would remember. He stops her and says he didn’t really, he was just guessing. He does not admit to remembering any flashes of memory. Kayla hopes that when he finally sees his daughter that the connection they share will trigger his memories even if she is all grown up.

They meet up with Jack, Jennifer and Frankie. Steve is glad to see Jack out and about. Jack credits Frankie for the planning. They invite Steve and Kayla to join them. Jack asks them to continue this tradition next year. Frankie stops the somber talk and wants to enjoy the holiday festivities. Jennifer tells Kayla quietly that she can’t believe this will be his last 4th of July. Kayla reminds her how many times Jack has come back to her in the past but Jennifer sadly observes that won’t happen this time. She changes the subject and asks how Steve is doing? Kayla laments that he does not remember her. Jennifer assures her that Steve loved her SO much, that he will remember and she will get her happily ever after with him.

7/10 Kayla takes Steve to the church garden where they were married the second time, but his memory still isn't coming back. She tells him that they were so happy that day, so much in love. He says again what a lucky man he was to have a woman like her love him so very much. He is sorry that nothing is triggering his memories, no matter how hard she tries. He realizes this must be disappointing for her. She says that she is sad for him as she has all of their wonderful memories together and he doesn’t. He enjoyed seeing all of the pictures she showed him. He can see how happy they were. She tells him that he was such an incredible papa. She continues to hope that Stephanie will be the one to trigger his memories. She can’t believe she can’t get in touch with her. He stops and pick a flower and tells her how beautiful she is. She says that he used to bring her flowers all the time.

As they go to enter the church, Kayla is surprised to see Stephanie enter! Stephanie sees Steve enter the room and tells her, “Baby Girl, this is your papa!” Stephanie looks at him in shock. They go outside to talk privately. Floored, Stephanie can't believe that her father is alive. Kayla sadly tells her that he doesn’t have any memories of them. Stephanie runs into his arms and he holds her and starts crying. He tells her how sorry he is that he doesn’t remember his baby girl. Caroline and Shawn are thrilled to see their granddaughter. Caroline tentatively asks Steve if seeing Stephanie has jogged any memories. He tells her that no he hasn’t remembered anything.

Steve asks her about being a race car driver. She laughs that her mom always said she got her wild and dangerous streak from her dad. Stephanie tells him that she will be in town for awhile so they will have more time to catch up. Kayla assures him that the more time he spends with them, that she is sure he will start remembering his past. He looks disappointed as Stephanie goes off to talk to Max. He asks Kayla what happened? If he scared her off (sounding disappointed). She tells him that things are bound to be awkward at first, they just need to spend time together as a family. He tells her they can’t be a family if he can’t remember their life together as she looks at him sadly with her heart in her eyes.

7/11 At the reception, Steve tells her he wanted to look at the pictures again and he keeps trying to remember things. He knows that gives her hope that he is remembering but he is not. Kayla tells him about Marlena and that she thinks she could help him. She is a psychiatrist who had memory issues of her own. It occurs to Kayla who is responsible for staging his death and erasing his memory. She is sure it was Stefano DiMera! She fills him in on the past history with the DiMeras. She tells him that Stefano had a strange obsession with both Marlena and Hope and faked both of their deaths and erased their memories. She says he is obsessed with all of the Bradys and that is why Steve was targeted, in order to keep them apart. She points out that Hope got her memory back and asks him not to give up. He says she has already tried everything, right? She says no, that she has one more idea. She pulls him into a private room and pulls him towards her and starts kissing him passionately. He responds and they sink into the sofa to make out.

7/12 Kayla and Steve kiss and things heat up, but he pulls back and tells her that he can’t do this that it is not right. He does not remember being her husband. She says she wants him and she remembers him and she knows he wants her too. She kisses him again and he responds but pulls away again. He tells her that he likes kissing her, that isn’t the problem. He feels lost and has to find out for himself who he is. He asks her to understand? She admits that she doesn’t really. He thinks making love to her would be wrong as they wouldn’t have any sort of meaningful relationship. She asks if he thinks this is her fair, her wanting him and not being able to have him?

He tells her IF they make love, he wants to do so after remembering who she is to him and what they shared. He tells her that right now it would just be about sex for him, and that isn’t fair to her. He tells her that he does want her, she is a beautiful sexy woman. Kayla worries he will never get his memory back? Steve urges her to have faith that some day he will. She says she doesn’t think she could bear losing him all over again. He promises not to leave her and Stephanie. He does feel connected to them both and that is worth something and he isn’t going anywhere. He will stay and fight for them, if she promises that she won’t give up on him. She tells him that she will do whatever she can to help him remember his past, no matter how long it takes.

7/18 Kayla and Stephanie argue about her dangerous career after Kayla asks her to give up racing cars. As their tempers flare and voices raise, Steve approaches and referees. Kayla guilts her into staying in town to spend time with her father. She retaliates by inviting Steve to come watch her next race. He tells her that while he isn’t happy about her career, he understands that this is her passion. Steve tells her that there's something more important than having a career you're passionate about, finding someone to love. Stephanie asks if they believe in love at first sight. She admits she may have found that someone, that he is also a race car driver. After she has left, Steve compliments Kayla that she did a great job raising their daughter.

7/26 Steve and Kayla are on a flight to Cincinnati to look into Steve’s past. She explained to him that the last time they flew to Ohio, it was to look for her sister's little boy, who had been kidnapped. She told him that trip is when she started to fall in love with him. Steve wondered if they had found the little boy, she says they had and she thinks that this trip will be successful too. They hope to find some answers in Cincinnati about how he ended up there all of those years ago. Kayla fears that there may be danger ahead for them because someone had gone to such great lengths to keep them apart. Steve says to Kayla that the more he thinks about it, the more he thinks that someone took away his memory on purpose. He thinks he might know why. He thinks that maybe in his former positions as a police officer and ISA agent, he may have had some knowledge that someone considered a threat. Steve thinks Stefano may have set up his disappearance.

Steve talks about Stefano setting up Marlena as the Salem Stalker, and how elaborate that was. He thinks that the same way Stefano made people disappear to an island, he made him disappear to Cincinnati. Kayla doesn't know what to believe. Kayla says that on their honeymoon, they took in a little boy named Benjy who evened up being Stefano's son. Stefano wasn't exactly grateful to have his son being raised by Brady's or Johnson's. Kayla tells him that Benjy ended up going to be raised by his maternal grandfather and they lost touch. Steve is going to look into these things. They're waiting for results from a lab about what was in the casket buried in the "Steve Johnson" grave. They both hope that it's found empty. Kayla is confident they'll find answers in Cincinnati.

Steve and Kayla go to a bar in Cincinnati's, where Steve went often when he was living as Nick Stockton. After they end, we see that the black glove person is outside, and motions to a man. The man says, "I've got it," to the black gloved person, who we still can't see. The man follows them into the bar. Steve is recognized as Nick by many of the patrons. The man who had been sent by the gloved person approaches Kayla as soon as Nick/Steve is over with some friends. He advises Kayla not to get involved with Nick/Steve. He tells Kayla that Nick is two-timing and has broken a lot of hearts around there. Nick/Steve pulls the guy from behind, and starts beating him up.

The man produces a gun, and points it at Steve. The black gloved person is perched outside watching. Steve wrestles the gun away from the man, and orders the man out of the bar. The man yells at Kayla to stay away from him. She tells the man that Steve is her husband. The man says that Steve is a liar. Steve threatens that he's a dead man if he doesn't get out of there. Steve checks to see if Kayla is okay, and she is shaken by the confrontation. The man comes outside, and grabs the gloved person by the hand, and tells him/her to get someone else to do his/her work next time because Steve/Nick is crazy. A woman comes into the bar and passionately kisses Steve/Nick. Kayla asks who she is and she announces she's his wife. Kayla is quick to tell the woman that she's his wife.

7/27 In Cincinnati, the gloved person continues to lurk outside the bar. Again, we are shown the woman claiming to be Steve's wife hugging him, and Kayla also claim to be his wife. Kayla asked Steve how he could be married to another woman and not tell her. Steve introduces the two women. Della, the woman, says that they aren't technically married, but they have an arrangement. Della inquires about who Kayla is, why she's calling him Steve, and why she thinks she's his wife. Steve briefly tells Della about what's been happening to him, and him not being Nick. Della doesn't believe that he's Steve, but he tells her that he took a DNA test to prove it. Kayla asks why Della hasn't known where he was if they're so close. Della wants her to stay out of it. Steve tells Della to cut it out, and Kayla storms away.

Della tells him that he could have at least called because she's been worried. Steve says that he's trying to figure out his past, but Della wants him to forget about it. Steve asks her to excuse him for a minute to talk to Kayla. She wants him to make it fast. Steve apologizes to Kayla, and she wants to know when he was going to tell her. He reminds her that she knew he'd had another life, and since she hadn't asked questions, he hadn't offered information. Kayla said she's been afraid to ask. Kayla wants to know why they've been talking about getting together if he has someone else. She also wants to know that if he and this woman are so close, why he hasn't kept her informed about everything that's been going on. She wants to know if he loves Della. Steve tells him that he hasn't been living a life like she's used to.

Kayla says that they used to go to a bar like that called the Cheating Heart. Steve tells Kayla that he's not the right kind of guy for her. Kayla is crushed and reminded him that he said he's fight for their reunion. Steve tells her that seeing Della reminded him that a place like that is where a guy like him needs to be. Kayla disagrees, and pleads with him. Steve says that until he can remember he, she's only his wife on paper. He says that he thinks she's beautiful and a good person, but until he remembers her, he can't be in her life as a husband. She tells him that all of this is such a change from what he's been saying. Kayla becomes upset, and asks if he decided that his family isn't enough for him. He says that's not it, but even though they share a daughter, he doesn't feel the same connection with Kayla as he feels with her. He wants her to try to understand. Kayla thought that Steve was starting to want to be in Salem. Della asks Steve to dance, and he says no. Della asks if he remembers making love to Kayla. He doesn't say a word, but she snaps back, "I didn't think so."

She reminds him that he remembers them making love. She tells him that this is his life. She goes back over by the bar. Steve apologizes for bringing her there. Kayla asks if he wants to remember their life together, and he says that he doesn't know. He doesn't know if he's any good for her, and he thinks he could even be dangerous. He asks what if the DiMeras come after her and Stephanie because of him. Kayla tells him that he's sounding like a family man, and he's protecting her for all of the wrong reasons. She says that it was hard living without thinking he was dead, but how could she now that she's knows he's alive and with another woman. He reminds her that without remembering her, he can't be in her life as her husband.

7/28 Steve and Kayla are still at the bar in Cincinnati. Kayla wants to get out of there, but Steve thinks that's where he belongs. Kayla tells him that he belongs with her and Stephanie. Steve says that being back there makes him realize that he belongs there, in a place like this. He thinks it's best if they go their separate ways now. He explains he's been around Salem and his family and has still had no memories, so he should just stay in Cincinnati. Kayla won't say goodbye, and can't believe that's what he wants. Steve doesn't know how they can't have a future without him remembering his past. Kayla wants them to go to know each other. Steve says he knows this isn't a simple case and that someone did this to him. Kayla declares war on whoever is responsible.

Kayla asks if he wants to fight for them, and he says he doesn't. She tells him that he's the only man she's ever loved, and the only man she will ever love. He says that she deserves to have that love in return, and he doesn't think she can get it from him. Steve wants Kayla and Stephanie to get on with their lives, and Kayla says she can't do that. Steve says he'll stay in touch. He just doesn't want her to keep trying to get him to be the person she remembers. He talks about Stephanie going on with her career, and Kayla says that he's talking like a parent, and like her husband. Steve needs her to go, and there's nothing that can change his mind. Kayla is crushed. She says that she'll never understand, and leaves.

7/31 Kayla calls and confides in Caroline that Steve wants to remain in Cincinnati as she sobs. Caroline urges her daughter to fight for the man she loves. Meanwhile, Steve kisses Della and they dance, to his and Kayla's song. Kayla sees this and realizes her relationship with Steve is over. Later, Steve feels the urge to find Kayla, but he's too late. She's gone.

8/1 Kayla and Stephanie have a heart-to-heart. Kayla opens up about the fact that Steve wants her to move on with her life without him. Stephanie, it turns out, has her own guy problems. She's upset that they are never attracted to her. Steve returns to Della at the bar after failing to find Kayla. We get the feeling he may be more attached to Kayla than he admits. Steve vows to find the person behind his memory loss, and we later see the mysterious gloved hand watching and listening. Stefanie pours her heart out to her mother about the guy and the girl he is involved with. Kayla asks if the guy even knows she likes him, if Stephanie has already told him? She admits she has not, but she thinks he only sees her as his friend. She doesn’t want to tell him and then lose his friendship, he is too important to her.

8/7 Stephanie and Kayla share a piece of chocolate cake and discuss their relationship problems. Meanwhile a depressed Steve realizes that he misses Kayla.

Dvd #21B Stephanie tells Kayla about the guy she likes, and that he likes someone else but doesn’t understand the attraction of why he would choose the other girl over Stephanie. Kayla asks if the guy even knows that she likes him? Stephanie admits that no but she has been down this road as she doesn’t want things to get awkward and loose him as a friend. Stephanie asks if being in love always hurts this much. Kayla says that sometimes it does seem to be part of that deal. Steve returns to Salem and she is amazed when he walks in the door of the pub. He tells her that he still doesn’t remember the life they had together but that she got to him. He reports that she was only gone a couple of minutes and he realised that he couldn’t let her get away. He asks her if she will give him another chance. She Kayla responds by pulling Steve in for a heated kiss.

8/8 Steve goes to see Bo at the PD. Bo tells Steve he is working hard as he is trying to save his marriage. Someone stole evidence and Hope thinks he did it to save his daughter. Hope will never trust him again if he can’t prove to her that he didn’t do it. Steve tells him that he really needs his help. He says he is trying to save his marriage too. Steve needs answers about what happened to him and by whom. Bo points out that it was so many years ago that the trail is cold by now. Steve gives him a proposition. He'll help Bo get Hope back, if Bo helps Steve get back with Kayla and solve the mystery of who erased his past. Bo fills him in that he was responsible for taking Steve's eye out back in Stockholm. Steve says that Kayla told him the story and he has forgiven Bo. They decide to work together and shake hands! Steve helps Bo come up with his first lead, Kate Roberts.

8/14 At the pub, Steve runs into Bo and comments that he is surprised that he hasn’t heard from him. Bo says if he gets any leads that he will let him know. In the meantime, he is working to put his life back together. Kayla walks in and smiles to see Bo and Steve hanging out together. She comments that this is like old times. Caroline comes out and suggests that they play darts together. Kayla groans that their fierce rivalry going and got a little too heat once in awhile. Steve laughs that he probably kicked Bo’s butt.

Kayla shares that their last match that Steve won narrowly and there was some question, Bo interrupts that there was NO question, Steve stepped over the line. Steve questions if Bo is accusing him of cheating. This is all done with fun and good humour. Bo, Steve, Billie, and Kayla had an enjoyable time playing darts, and there were subtle hints of chemistry between Steve and Billie. Later, Steve called Kayla "sweetness," which made it seem as if he might be regaining his memory. When Bo is served divorce papers, he storms out of the pub.

8/16 At Dune, Bo bought Steve a beer. They saw John on his date with Officer Eve. Steve runs into Stephanie at Dune, where she was celebrating her business deal as spokesperson for E.J., Kate, and Austin's company. Steve was proud of her. He said he'd be in the front row, cheering his daughter. Emotionally, Steve hugged her and vowed that from that point on, he'd always be there for his little girl. Hope and Kayla caught up and revealed their old closeness. Kayla asks if she is happy about her pregnancy and Hope admits that she is. Kayla points out that Bo was very upset to get the divorce papers. Hope was determined to go ahead with the divorce while Kayla wished she'd reconsider. Hope feels that she owes it to the baby to give her relationship with Patrick a chance.

8/28 At the church, Steve, Kayla and Stephanie arrive before the wedding. Steve is uncomfortable with the suit and tie. Kayla acknowledges that he is making an effort by being there when he doesn’t really know or remember these people from his past. Billie walks in and interrupts them. She teases Steve that it is a wedding and he is supposed to be smiling. She tells them how much fun she had the other night. Steve suggests they have a rematch as she complains about not winning. She laughs up at him and says with a sparkle that she has been practicing. Kayla takes pause at their flirty interaction and looks surprised and then concerned.

Bo, John and Steve discuss their investigation of the missing evidence disk. Steve had a buddy hack into Officer Eve's bank account. It seems she made a hefty cash deposit right after the incriminating evidence went missing. Steve and Bo are looking quite happy when they return to Hope and Kayla’s side. Soon the wedding begins. Kayla tells Steve she isn’t surprised if Sami’s wedding doesn’t happen. She smiles that people come to her weddings like people are drawn to accidents, and says something about always a bridesmaid never a bride.

9/5 Steve invites Billie to watch a game as he is trying to get a group of people together and he doesn’t know many people in town. Kayla hates sports he reports. Billie says she will let him know. She is sitting with her brother Lucas, and so Steve invites him as well. Kate soon joins them.

9/6 Bo comes in and joins John and Steve to talk about Eve’s murder investigation. Bo needs to prove that Eve’s murder is related to the theft. Steve says whoever bribed Eve to steal the evidence and then killed her. John suspects Kate is involved. While he doesn’t think she is the murderer, he believes she knows something. Marlena comes in and she is introduced to Steve. He tells her that he has seen a couple of doctors but they weren’t any help. Kayla raves that she is the best so he is hoping she can help him. She gives him a card for a colleague as she is not available at the moment.

Steve shows up at PD and offers Tek his assistance. Later when Bo arrives, Steve tells him that Roman found the stolen disk in Eve’s apartment and that Kate was there to try to retrieve it. He encourages Bo that if they can prove Eve lifted the disk then Bo is off the hook!

9/12 Kayla invites Steve to dinner at her Salem Inn suite. Steve feels out of place in the posh surroundings and says she didn’t have to go to all this trouble and expense. She thought things were a bit cozy her living above the Fish Market, so she thought they deserved a treat. She ordered Civiche and tells him that this was a favourite of his. He says that this is raw fish right? She asks him to try it as he looks at it suspiciously. He does not seem to like the texture as he tries to chew it. She tells him how much she enjoys cooking and misses having a home with a kitchen. She suggests getting something more permanent, a house that could be a real home here in Salem. He asks her if she isn’t going back to LA? She says if he is here and confirms he isn’t going back to Cincinnati, that she would stay too and not go back to LA. She asks if after dinner maybe they could look at places online. He says that the suburbs isn’t really his thing and after all they aren’t going to be living together.

Hurt she jumps up from the table and claims she got something in her eye as she dabs at her tears. He is sorry for hurting her after she went to all of this trouble. He tries to clarify that they wouldn’t be living together right now. She is eager for him to enjoy his dinner and removes the unwanted Civiche. He dives into his entree as she assures him he used to love it, but admits like with the Civiche that it took him time to acquire the taste. He says he is surprised as he is a meat and potatoes kind of guy. She realizes that her evening of trying to remind him of things he learned to enjoy with her, is a bit of a miss. She seems to have emphasised their differences rather than remind him of things they enjoyed together. Now she should have gone with steak & lobster, we know Steve loved lobster and that was a memory of them together. I don’t recall them ever eating Civiche or the French name she said was their dinner, but sounded suspiciously like snails (sorry but epic writer’s fail, should have been lobster!).

Kayla reminds him of what they do have In common. She grew up in a blue collar family, out on the fishing boat at 5:00 am with her pop. She is convinced that in time he will realize they belong together. (Kayla is very nervous and trying way too hard). He asks what her family thought when they first heard she was involved with him? She says she didn’t care what anyone thought. She tells him how closed off he was when they first met. He asked what happened between them that changed him? She says that the day when he allowed her to take the patch off, that was the day things changed between them and he was more vulnerable. Such a great classic scene between them as she asks him to trust her and asks him to take the patch down. She tells him that she realized in that second that she loved him inside and out and she still does love him. She leans in and starts kissing him intently. He begins to respond and is kissing her passionately, almost desperately.

Things are very intense between them as he pulls apart. He can’t be with Kayla like this. He isn’t the same person he was before with her, that guy is gone, he is dead. She tells him that isn’t true. He tells her that she is a “nice person” and he wants her to steer clear of him. She insists that she is not giving up on him. He yells that he is NOT giving her a choice. She is so hurt and he is immediately sorry for the way he said it, but sadly tells her that this is just not going to work. There is no future for them! He exits, leaving Kayla shattered. Steve goes to the pier for solitude. Billie happens by and they flirt. Steve says he's not looking for a long-term relationship. Billie agrees. She's also into living in the moment. Sparks fly. Steve and Billie kiss passionately.

9/13 (sound a little warbly for first few minutes then clears up). After their fight in her suite, Kayla heads off to find Steve. Bo runs into her. She tells him about her disastrous evening and she blew it by pushing him too much. Bo offers to help in her search. They go to the waterfront and Kayla is disappointed when they don’t find him. She questions whether chasing after him is a good idea. Bo agrees that maybe letting him sleep on it is a good and he will wake up tomorrow and regret walking out on her tonight. Bo assures her that her and Steve are soulmates and they will wind up together. She asks him how things are going between him and Hope.

Meanwhile, Billie and Steve get cozy together and kiss down on the docks. Steve doesn’t want to focus on the past but on his future. But Billie decides she can't come between Steve and Kayla. Steve tries to convince her to change her mind, but Billie holds her ground. Bo and Kayla soon arrive at the Cheatin’ Heart to find Billie and Steve slow dancing. Kayla is not happy to find them together and neither is Bo. He tells Billie that Steve is a married man. Steve says not to blame Billie. He informs Kayla that she has all of these plans for how things are supposed to be but he just doesn’t remember any of it and he can’t just flip a switch and be this person she wants him to be, so he took off.

He just happened to run into Billie, it was not anything planned. Billie tries to defend that she already told Steve she couldn’t get involved with him. Kayla then realizes that Steve wanted something to happen with Billie. Kayla tells Steve that he is right, he is no longer the man she used to love. An upset Kayla rushes out, and Bo warns Steve that if he hurts his sister again that he will regret it! Later, Kayla realizes that Steve is moving on and she's doubtful she'll ever get him back. Bo tries to reassure her but she isn’t buying it. He asks here if he has ever lied to her? She says yes about 1,000 times. He says yeah but not about anything important. She wishes him luck at his divorce hearing tomorrow.

9/21 Bo and Kayla catch up. She asks how things are going with him and Hope and celebrates that the divorce didn’t go through. He observes they have a lot to work out. Hope remembers every single thing he has ever done. Kayla suggests that he just needs to be patient. The Hortons are having a going away party for Jack & Jenn now that he is in remission and back with Jennifer. Steve joins the party, but we see he feels out of place. Bo has to convince Kayla to attend the party. She admits she's still upset after seeing Steve dancing with Billie at the Cheatin' Heart. Bo says he is not giving up on being with Hope and insists that Kayla can't give up on Steve. Kayla finally gives in and goes to the party. She greets Steve and reminds him they're still married; Jack is her brother-in-law and she wanted to say goodbye to him. Everyone is thrilled that Jack is in remission and back with Jennifer. They're less happy that the Deveraux's are moving across the pond to London. Final scenes between Jack and Steve, who have just been reunited (though I suspect that the show losing Jack & Jenn had to do with them bringing back Steve & Kayla?).

9/28 Bo and Hope are at the diner. They have recently learned that they are grandparents. Bo says it seems like just yesterday that they were holding him in their arms as they prepared to sail off around the world. Flashback of Steve and Kayla saying their goodbyes to Bo and Hope as they take off on their adventure.

9/29 Billie, Kate and Chelsea run into Steve, who makes no secret of his attraction to Billie. Kate encourages the connection. She also encourages Chelsea to do what it takes to get what she wants. Billie and Kate are clearly at odds over Chelsea's goals and actions. Steve defends the necessity to go after what you want, and it's obvious that what he wants is Billie. He announces his plan to divorce Kayla. Billie isn't sure that's such a good idea, but she's later drawn to Steve and they share a passionate kiss, one that Chelsea is very unhappy to see.

10/5 Stephanie was at the racetrack waiting for her family to arrive. She is looking forward to spending time with her parents as a family. She is upset when her dad arrives with Billie. Kayla was also crushed and Stephanie calls Steve out on bringing Billie, he assures her he did not intend on hurting Kayla (hmm Steve what did you think she was going to be happy to see her returned from the dead hubby with another woman?). Grandpa Shawn urged Kayla not to give up. He points out that Steve fell in love with her before; she could do it again. As Stephanie is leaving for the race and stops to inform her father that one of her biggest regrets was she didn’t think her father would ever get to see her race. Now her biggest regret is that the man she always thought it was never really existed. She declares that he doesn’t know the first thing about being a husband or a father. She storms off and he looks upset over disappointing her.

After Stephanie has left, Steve approaches Kayla and tells her how sorry he is. He just wasn’t thinking. He states that it would have been better for everyone if he never returned to town. He says again that he doesn’t know how to be a husband or father. The race began, Stephanie and Max were neck and neck in a close match. Just as Max was about to win the race, his car caught fire and hit Stephanie's.

10/6 It was touch and go as Stephanie was wheeled into the trauma center. Kayla was distraught and feared the worst. At the same time, Steve was hesitant to go to the hospital to check on his daughter. Billie encouraged him, saying that he needed to be there for her. Steve and Billie talked, and she told him that if he remembered his life with Kayla, she would remove herself from the equation. Meanwhile, Kayla paced at the hospital, waiting for news. Max showed up, having only suffered minor bruises, and said it was his fault. Kayla comforted him and said he shouldn't blame himself. Later, Stephanie awoke and asked for Steve. Steve went in to see his daughter, and Kayla told Billie they needed to talk. Billie assured Kayla that if Steve's memory returned, she would step aside. Later, Steve offered a loving speech to Stephanie. He reached out to touch her, and his memory of holding his newborn daughter returned (flashback!).

10/9 Kayla is overjoyed when Steve remembers that Stephanie is his daughter. Overwhelmed by his deep emotions, Steve breaks down. She approaches him as he is sobbing in the waiting area. She takes him in his arms as he cries. He assures Kayla that Stefanie is going to be okay. Kayla says he knows as he has that connection with her. Kayla is heartbroken as Steve takes her face in his hands and tells her that he is sorry but he still doesn't remember her. He is so sorry to be causing her so much pain. Now he knows what that feels like as he remembers loving that child and he is already scared to death and scared of losing her. He laments losing out on raising her, and is afraid that he can’t be a good father to her, can’t be what she expects. He just can’t disappoint her again. Kayla encourages him that the only way he will disappoint his daughter is if he walks away. It wasn’t his fault before that they were separated, but if he leaves now it would devastate them.

She raves that he never thought he would get his memory back but look at what he has already remembered. She knows he is scared, she is too. He has to make a decision and make a commitment one way or the other, to be in her life or not. Steve points out that what Stephanie wants is for her parents to be together. Steve asks how could he be in Stephanie’s life and not in Kayla’s? He knows that isn’t what Kayla wants. He tells her again that he doesn’t want to hurt her but that guy she is in love with, he doesn’t know who that is.

Steve goes in to see Stephanie and tells her that he has gotten one memory back of holding her when she was a baby. Billie pops her head in and Stephanie demands to know what SHE is doing here? Steve informs her that she is his friend and he asked her to come with him (did he learn nothing from Kayla and Stephanie’s reaction at the race?). After Billie leaves, Steve asks her to try to be nicer to Billie. She insists that he belongs with Kayla, not that woman. He can’t force himself to feel something he doesn’t and he doesn’t remember her. Stephanie knows he feels something for Kayla or he would have stayed in Cincinnati. He asks Stephanie if they could try the father-daughter relationship. He tries to cheer her up by telling her how worried Max was about her after the accident.

10/16 Steve continues to bond with Stephanie and she urges her father to try to work things out with Kayla. Steve says he can't because he doesn't remember having any feelings for her, and he'd hate to hurt her by promising something he couldn't deliver. Kayla and Billie have words, as Billie says she is only there because Steve was hesitant about coming and needed the moral support. Billie encourages Kayla to fight for Steve. Kayla is thrown. Billie admits she likes Steve, but unless they know for sure who he really wants a future with, one of them is going to get hurt and she can't go through that again. Billie is called away, but we see her words have affected Kayla. Later, a saddened Kayla sends him home with Billie. Later, when Steve goes out for food, Stephanie assures her mom that Steve will come back to her, and Kayla is still optimistic.

10/25 Kayla gets a suspicious page while visiting Stephanie in the hospital. Stephanie has a bad feeling about it and tries to persuade her mother not to check on it, to no avail. Steve drops by to see Billie. While he's there, he tries to explain to Chelsea his feelings for her mom. Upset, Chelsea tells Steve that Billie used to be a hooker. Billie is livid, and Steve gives Chelsea hell. Just then, Stephanie calls him. She's worried about her mom. Steve takes off.

At the hospital, we see Kayla get trapped in an exam room and where she hears a man's heavy breathing. An eerie voice calls out her name through an air vent. Kayla freaks out, but Steve comes to the rescue, breaking down the door. He holds her in his arms. They go to investigate the air vent when suddenly lethal-looking smoke explodes from the vent, suffocating Kayla and Steve!

10/26 Steve and Kayla are now unconscious in a quarantined area of the hospital. They were exposed to an unspecified bio-toxin that is attacking their lungs. Doctors are scrambling to save their lives, as members of the Brady clan keep close watch. Stephanie tells Bo that it is all her fault, that she knew her mother was walking into a trap. It is her fault that Steve went to try to help her after Stephanie called him. Billie later arrives and Stephanie pleads for her to leave her father alone. The antidote arrives and it's given to Steve and Kayla to combat the deadly toxin, but we're left to wonder if they received it in time. Doctor reports they will know in 24 hours if it will work.

10/27 Steve and Kayla take a turn for the worse. The antidote is not working and it appears all bets are off. Caroline tells the doctor she does not care what he has to do, what experimental treatment he has to try, she will not watch her daughter die!

10/30 At the pub, Lexie helps with medical research and finds an experimental drug that could save Steve and Kayla. The Bradys are deeply grateful as at least now they have hope for a cure, though Lexie tells them there is no guarantee it will work. They take the info to the hospital and share the results of the clinical trial with the doctor. Dr. Myers is skeptical since the drug is untested and could even prove to be fatal. Caroline says they have to take the risk. It's their only hope!

10/31 The Bradys anxiously wait for an experimental antidote to arrive to treat Steve and Kayla. The doctor reports the drug has arrived and they will be administering it soon. Bo waits and waits worriedly staring at them through the window.

11/1 Billie joins the Bradys at the hospital, where they are waiting for the experimental drug to work on Steve and Kayla. Hope tells Bo that she invited her as she thought Steve needed her. Dr. Myers gives the good news that the medication seems to have had some effect as they are both breathing easier. He cautions that it could still go either way as they are both unconscious. Steve begins to wake up and sees his family and Billie at the window.They are thrilled to see him coming around! Bo talks to Steve and asks if he can hear him. Steve nods yes, he can. Bo tells him what happened to him and Kayla. Dr. Myers asks the Bradys for a conference, and they leave Billie and Steve alone to talk. Steve, though very weak, professes his feelings for Billie and she returns his sentiments.

Meanwhile, the Bradys learn that Kayla has had a relapse. Her fever has spiked, and her breathing is shallow. Dr. Myers proposes upping Kayla's dosage. This is a risky procedure, but Grandpa Shawn tells him to go ahead with it. Anything to save his daughter! Later, Frankie brings Stephanie in just as Kayla has a seizure and flatlines.

11/2 It's touch and go for Kayla as she goes into cardiac arrest. Helpless Steve, Billie and the Bradys look on, fearing the worst. Because of her adverse reaction to the anti-toxin, the doctor says they have less than 48 hours to find a suitable antidote. Bo thinks everyone needs a break and should go home. Before Billie takes off, she has a private moment with Steve. After she leaves, Steve asks Hope to buy a necklace he can give to Billie. He wants to show her how he really feels. Hope isn't sure this is a good idea, but ultimately agrees. Later, Stephanie rails on her dad and orders him to do everything in his power to save Kayla.

11/3 Stephanie argues with her father about how he's not doing enough to help her mom survive. Steve gets an idea about how he can help Kayla. Hope returns to the hospital where Steve asks for her and Bo to compile a list of memories of his life with Kayla. Hope gladly agrees.
