Early Lucky #3 March 10 - Nov 7, 1995: 8 hour original edit

DVD #3A Ruby tells Luke and Lucky that Foster stopped by Kelly's and took off with 5 lbs of sirloin. The dogs have taken refuge in a cave. She has had a tiny black puppy. Foster shows up at the Q's and brings Edward back to the cave in the dark, snowy night. Edward grumbles the whole way. Near the entrance to the cave, Edward slips and falls and breaks his leg. He pulls himself into the cave. Annabelle lays down next to him to keep him warm and shows him her puppy. Edward sends Foster to get help.

Lucky is at the club, worrying about the missing Foster when the dog shows up barking. Luke and Lucky follow Foster into the woods. Edward, despite his bluster, snuggles with the puppy. They find Edward, Lucky is thrilled to see the puppy. Lucky stays in the cave with Edward and chatters to keep him awake while Luke goes for help. Luke and Lucky return Annabelle and puppy to the Q's. Lucky visits Edward in the hospital and sits down to negotiate, he wants the puppy. Edward is impressed with his negotiating skills and sarcastically askes if Lucky intends on going to law school. Lucky seriously considers this question, then says no his dad would hate that idea.

Lucky stops by the Q's to talk to Edward about the puppy, Lucky meets Emily. Edward tells Lucky that he will not discuss giving Lucky the puppy until they have Foster neutered. Lucky hates the idea, as does Luke and Foster when Lucky returns home with the latest news. Lucky calls Laura and fills her in on Edward's latest demand. Luke and Lucky go to visit Laura again. Cute improv scene as baby Lulu sticks out her tongue during the scene. Happy reunion that ends with Laura's tears as she once again has to say goodbye to her guys.

At Kelly's, Lucky tells Sly about meeting Emily, about her father's death, and her mother's terminal illness. The boys go to the Q's and meet Paige (Emily's mother). They invite Em to go to Kelly's to meet Foster where they share some chili and get acquainted. Another evening, Lila finds Em sitting alone and she suggests that since Edward is out for the evening that Em invite Lucky and Foster over for a nice long visit with the puppy. They arrive and cuddle with the ever growing puppy who they named Raoul.

Laura returns to PC (against Luke's wishes). Lucky shows up at the house, thrilled to see Laura but realizing she is in much danger. The next am, the Spencers enjoy a moment of rare domestic bliss. That night, Lucky overhears Sonny tell Luke that Scully's men won't negotiate and are out for revenge and to consider this a red alert. Later, as Laura sings a lullabye to her baby, there is a montage of scenes as gunmen shoot up Luke's club, shoot at Brenda in the shower at Sonny's penthouse, they hit the Spencer house.

Sonny covers Lucky to protect him, then Sonny and Luke return fire and they get three of the gunmen. Luke goes after the fourth while Sonny hides Lucky in the basement. Laura hides the baby in the closet and gets her shotgun and heads downstairs. Luke is desperate to find her and makes himself a target by going through the house shouting for her. The remaining gunman comes up behind Luke and a shot rings out. seems as though Luke has been shot in the back. But the next scene reveals that Laura had come up behind the gunman and shot him before he could shoot Luke. When it is all over, Luke retrieves a very shaken Lucky who shares a tearful reunion with his mother.

Later, Laura tells Luke that she refuses to run and hide anymore and she will stay in PC. Luke agrees that he should be the one to leave the house since he is the one putting them in danger. Lucky is frightened that this means his parents are separating. Great goodbye scene between Lucky and Luke, after Luke leaves, Luke sinks to the floor in anguish and fear. Luke returns home for a night to protect his family, and sleeps on the couch. Lucky comes downstairs, worried after overhearing earlier how angry Laura is at Luke.

Luke assures him that once the trouble has passed that she will get over the trauma of the guns and the blood. Another evening, Lucky is missing his father and Laura admits that she too misses him. Lucky worries that they will never get back together. Lucky visits Luke at the club. When Luke tells him that the threat from Scully's men is over Lucky doesn't understand why his father isn't coming home. Lucky blames Laura, which Luke won't allow. He continues to assure Lucky that with time Laura would get over the danger her family had been placed in, and that their family life would get back to normal.

At the Spencer's during a storm, Laura is very nervous as they are home alone and she tells Lucky she keeps hearing things. He tells her not to worry that he and Foster are on duty. The phone rings and nobody speaks, then the electricity goes out. Someone calls and hangs up when she answers, just then the power goes out. They are both feeling a bit paranoid, but decide to go up to bed. Lucky comes back downstairs to sleep on the couch, he figures if someone tries to break in then he would be able to warn his mother. He does hear a noise and realizes that someone is outside.

He gets the shotgun, loads it, opens the window, points the gun and proceeds to shoot the man approaching, the man drops to the porch floor. Lucky opens the door and realizes in horror that he has shot his father! Laura, upstairs, hears the gunshot and Lucky calling his father's name in a panic. When she comes down, Lucky cries that he didn't mean to do it. When Laura sees that it is Luke laying there, unmoving, she sobs hysterically and begs him not to leave them. She desperately searches for the bullet wound but can't find one or any blood. Luke comes to and says he is okay. He heard a noise, dropped to the floor and hit his head.

Laura is furious with Luke as she blames him for this incident. She has had it with having guns in her and her son's life. She angrily tells Luke that she wants him out of the house. There is a finality about her demand. She insists that she will no longer accept her family living in fear. Lucky listens in as Laura tells Luke to leave. Lucky runs downstairs and begs her not to send his father away. Lucky apologizes and says it was all his fault and begs not to blame his father. Once again, Luke and Lucky say goodbye. As Luke leaves the house, Lucky runs onto the porch calling after him, yelling for him to return and begging him not to go. Inside, Laura hears Lucky's anguish and begins crying and screams with her own grief.

At Luke's club, Sonny counsels Lucky not to blame himself for what happened. Lucky continues to though. Luke also tells Lucky that he reacted as Luke had taught him to, that Lucky was merely trying to protect his family. Lucy shows up at the club to convince Lucky and Luke to act as Mary Mae's "Pip"s during the Nurse's Ball when she performs Gladys Night's hit "Midnight Train to Georgia". They agree, and Luke proposes that he and Lucky also do a little hip-hop.

Lucky (obviously angry with Laura) argues with her over chores, he has a definite attitude with her (there is a slight tracking glitch during this scene). Emily's mother has died and she is depressed. Monica calls Lucky and asks him to come by to visit Em. Lucky and Foster's arrival immediately brightens her mood. They play with the puppy as Edward and Monica watch. Edward pulls Lucky aside and suggests that they give the puppy, Raoul, to Emily. Lucky points out that this means that the puppy will live in Edwards house but does agree as he too wants to give Em a bit of happiness and knows how much she loves the puppy. Lucy drops in on the Q's next, and suggests that Emily plays Dorothy in one of the Nurse's Ball skits. She declines but Alan agrees to play the cowardly lion and he and Lucky talk her into it. Lucky offers Emily the puppy and she happily accepts.

Lucky stops by Felicia's to service her worm farm. Maxie is thrilled to see him. She is dressed as a princess and he gallantly kisses her hand. When Lucky returns home, he is obviously down. Laura tries to cheer him up and he grouches at her. He tells her he just wants his father to come home and blames her for keeping Luke away. Lucky is practicing his dance moves, Tony stops in and compliments his footwork. The guests begin arriving at the Nurse's Ball, Laura is on Lucky's arm. One of my all time favorite NB moments, Lucky, Luke, and Justus as the "Pips" to Mary Mae's rendition of Gladys Night's "Midnight Train to Georgia". After the song, Luke and Lucky do a hip-hop dance together.

Luke stops by the house and invites Lucky to go camping with him for a couple of weeks. Lucky calls him to tell her he will be gone and asks if he can come over to see Raoul. Emily invites Lucky to a barbeque at Q boat house. Classic scene as Jason is there with Keisha, Ned with Lois, Robin & Stone, Brenda, and Miguel. The other couples are dancing, Emily asks Lucky to dance and he seems embarrassed and makes an excuse not to. Ned dances with Em, and Lois gets Lucky to dance, then they switch partners. Brenda & Miguel dance seductively on the wall of a fountain and fall in, just as Sonny arrives.

Luke and Lucky arrive back from their trip and tell Laura all about it. Lucky goes upstairs to give them some time alone. Unfortunately, they start fighting. Lucky overhears and confronts them. Lucky feels Laura is using his safety as an excuse to keep Luke away. Lucky demands they work this out.

Lucky shows up at the club to see Luke even though Laura has forbidden him to go there. He insists to Luke that he will see his father, so they go to Kelley's for chili. Lucky sees a sick Stone at the club and asks Luke about it. Luke tells him about Stone having AIDS and answers Lucky's questions. Later, Luke tries to talk to Laura about letting Lucky see him at the club but she is adamantly against it. Lucky visits Luke at the club again, Lucky reports that Laura had no objection to him going there. Lucky is encouraged by this, hopes it means Laura is thawing towards Luke.

Luke and Lucky play gin, Lucky seems to really enjoy playing cards. Lucky tells Luke and Stone about his go-cart plans. Stone has been down, physically and mentally. Luke invites him to help him build the go-cart and Stone immediately cheers up. They brainstorm design ideas. After Stone leaves, Luke compliments Lucky on his invitation to Stone. He tells him that Lucky got the best of Laura.

At the Spencer's, Luke pours his heart out to Lulu about wanting to come home while Lucky listens in from the hallway. Lucky gets ticked off at Laura all over again for keeping Luke away. He blames her for his parents separation. After Luke leaves, Lucky tells her that she is being unfair and selfish.

Dvd #3B Stone and Lucky get together and make a supply list for the go-cart. Back home, when Lucky tells Laura about the go-cart she bans the idea as being too dangerous. He gets angry and tells her she ruins everything. He thinks she is too over protective and points out that his father had given him permission.

Laura calls Luke, he tells her how Lucky asked Stone to help him in order to cheer him up. Laura is touched by this and doesn't have the heart to disappoint Stone, good thing as he shows up a few minutes later with some parts. While working on the cart, Stone cuts himself and freaks out over the blood. Laura remains cool and calm, pointing out to Stone that she is fine as she has gloves and a first aide kit. He apologizes profusely for putting them at risk, he just wanted to help the kids. She reassures him that it was just an accident and everyone is fine. Lucky tells her how impressed he is with how sensitively she handled Stone's injury. She is touched as its been a long time since Lucky has had anything nice to say to her. He tells her it meant a lot to Stone and to him.

Emily is having a hard time with her mom's death, and visits Lucky at the Spencer's and he shows her the finished go-cart, except it doesn't have breaks which Em points out seems like a rather important component. He is going to test drive it without a helmut which she also thinks is a bad idea! He takes off, crashes, hits his head on a rock and is knocked unconscious. Laura calls Luke and tells him to meet them at the hospital. Lucky has evidence of brain trauma so they rush him up for a CAT scan.

Luke and Laura wait nervously, each trying very hard not to blame the other for the accident. Tony informs them there is bruising which is causing pressure on the brain and he needs to operate to relieve it. After the surgery, Luke and Laura sit by his bedside. They tell him stories and beg him to wake up. Eventually, he does and the first thing he says is, "Am I in trouble?"

Lucky is back home, Luke calls and invites him to breakfast. Laura is annoyed that Lucky wants to bail on doing errands with her. Lucky erupts in anger as he misses his father and points out that if Luke lived with them then Lucky wouldn't have to meet him places in order to see his father. He softens and tells her he doesn't want to fight with her. Lucky meets up with Luke and they plan on going camping before school starts. Lucky laughs when Luke suggests they take Sonny with them. They head over to the club to ask Sonny who at first says no, then agrees when they accuse him of wimping out.

Lucky is waiting with his gear for Luke to pick him up, he has another fight with Laura. Luke and Sonny are in the woods, the camping trip begins! Lucky gets Luke to pierce his ear which grosses Sonny out. Luke and Lucky return home. Laura is very unhappy to see Lucky's pierced ear.

Emily stops by and meets Luke (she later tells Lucky she is in love with his father). Em tells Lucky about the problems she is having with Monica, and he tells her about the problems he is having with Laura.

Lucky visits Luke and sells him on the idea of taking shop instead of Algebra, that is till Luke figures out that Laura has already said no to shop. Luke gets upset at Lucky for trying to play Luke against Laura. Lucky is giving Laura attitude about math. Mary Mae overhears, she counsels Lucky to give his parents room to work out their problems.

At school, Stone talks to kids about AIDS. Afterwards, a jerk calls him a faggot. Stone pretty much puts him in his place. Em and Lucky are in the hall and hear the exchange. They both agree that Stone's situation makes their family problems seem less difficult. Lucky does sense that Em is having a hard time. She tells him that if things don't work out at the Qs that she doesn't have anywhere else to go. Lucky continues to give Laura a lot of attitude. She sits him down, tired of him being so angry at her. He tells her that when she acts so calm and rational about the breakup with Luke that it makes him even angrier. He insists she doesn't understand how he feels.

Emily arrives before school. Lucky tells her that Foster is the only one he can talk to in his family. Laura listens in as he shares his feelings with Laura. They are both feeling suffocated at home. After school, Lucky takes Em to Luke's club. Luke gives her a tour and she seems to be enjoying herself till Bobbie walks in. When Em sees Bobbie, she takes off. Lucky follows her outside and Em tells him about Alan and Bobbie. Em feels that if Alan and Monica don't want each other then how could they want her. She doesn't want to return to the Q's. Lucky talks her into going home and encourages her to talk to Alan. The next day, Lucky comes by to visit. Em tells him that she hasn't yet talked to anyone about her feelings.

Lucky asks Laura if he can have dinner at Luke's club. After some questioning, Laura gets him to admit it is a birthday dinner for Ruby. She is somewhat hurt that Luke didn't invite her, she calls Luke expressing her surprise and he does invite (he seems surprised she wants to come). Lucky arrives at the club for the party. He tells Luke that he feels uncomfortable about seeing Bobbie given what he knows about her recent activities with Alan.

Everyone gets together to surprise Stone with a memory book, Lucky reads his letter to Stone, then Luke.

Lucky comes by and Emily tells him that things just get weirder and weirder at the Q's. She says that she has decided against the adoption and wants to leave. She is worried about becoming a ward of the court. Lucky returns home and overhears Mary Mae offer Laura a job at the foundation. He thinks it is a great idea.

Em calls Lucky from her room and tells them she has told the Q's she doesn't want to be adopted. She asks Lucky for help in finding her aunt and he agrees to help her. Lucky asks Mac for advice on how to find someone who has disappeared. Mac gives him info on how to access public records to try and track her down. Lucky heads over to tell Em that he knows how to start looking for her aunt. They make plans to head to Boston together. Lucky picks up some cash and credit cards from the club, then gets his emergency travel pack from home. He tells Foster that he figures Luke and Laura will team up to follow him (so he plans on his taking off on bringing his parents together). The kids decide to leave on Halloween.

Lucky goes over what supplies Emily should pack. Then he calls Sly and tells him that he is taking off with Emily. He won't give Sly any details as he knows the first person his parents will question will be Sly. Lucky and Em dress as hobos and go to Felicia's Halloween party. They make their final departure plans and head to Luke's. Lucky tells Luke he has to head for school early, and will be home late and is concerned that Laura might worry about him. Luke sense that Lucky is up to something but doesn't know what. The kids head to the Q's and make a production out of saying goonight and Emily going to bed. Emily gathers her stuff and sneaks out to meet Lucky. They head to the Spencer's together. Em waits outside, Lucky tells Laura about the party and his leaving early in the am. Instead of going up to bed, he sneaks out and they catch a bus to Boston.

Luke wakes early, he is feeling uneasy about Lucky. Laura finds it odd that Lucky has left early to be on a clean up committee and leaves her a note to remind her. Foster barks at Laura as she reads the note as if to tell her that Lucky is up to something. Laura panics when she realizes Lucky's emergency pack is missing. She calls Luke and he heads over, she tells him that Lucky didn't go to school.

On the bus, Lucky tells Emily that his parents will expect him to check into a mid priced family hotel so they will instead check into the most expensive hotel as that would be unexpected. The hotel clerk doesn't want to let the kids check in without parental approval but Lucky sweet talks his way in. Luke calls Sly, who tells him that Lucky took off with Em but he doesn't know where they are headed. The kids check into a suite at the hotel and order breakfast from room service. Em wants to know why Lucky is helping her. He explains his plan to bring his parents together.

Luke and Laura head to the Q's and tell Monica about the kids running off. Ned walks in and tells them that he recently saw Lucky involved in an intense conversation with Mac. So they head to the Outback and question Mac, who tells them that Lucky was asking questions about finding a friend's aunt in Boston.

The kids head to the records department while Luke and Laura head to Boston aboard the ELQ jet. The records line is so huge that Lucky gets Em to fake sick so they can get to the front of the line. Her alias is Elizabeth (its too weird to hear Lucky calling her Elizabeth!). The kids are waiting in an extremely long line at a Boston's records department. (They have run off to Boston to look for Emily's aunt Corie). Lucky gets Emily to fake sick and they get sent to the front of the line. They can't get info though without a social security number for Corie.

At the Q's, Alan and Monica stay behind in case Emily calls while Luke and Laura on their way to Boston aboard the ELQ jet. The kids go to another office, again hit red tape. This time they can't access the information due to confidentiality. Emily bursts into tears and puts on a great sympathetic show which convinces the clerk to break the rules and help them. She gives them a forwarding address in Alburqurque, NM.

Luke tells Laura that Lucky wanted to alert them, he wanted them to follow him so they would be together. Luke suggests they look at moderately priced family hotels. Laura says no that Lucky knows they would expect that. She says he will follow the Spencer rule to do the unexpected. So they decide to check the most expensive hotel. Lucky has been sure to leave behind a subtle clue so Luke and Laura will be able to follow him to NM. L&L identify themselves as the Forbes (knowing the alias Lucky was using) and they get access and search his room.

Luke and Laura are back on the jet heading to NM. Luke seems proud that Lucky is staying two steps ahead of them. Luke and Laura figure Lucky is now doing rule #1, "Never do the obvious thing", which would be to change plans at the lay over in Chicago and take a plane elsewhere to throw them off. However, Lucky realizes that they expect him to do the unexpected, so he does the opposite and the kids remain on the plan to go to NM. (The scenes of L&L trying to second guess what moves Lucky will make are funny, as is Lucky's guessing what moves L&L will make, they know each other on the run so well).

Early Lucky #4  Nov 7, 1995 - ?, 1996: 8 hour original edit. New Description in progress

DVD #4A The kids arrive at the NM address but Corie hasn't lived there for 2 years. There is no forwarding address as she left owing money. Emily is really discouraged. Lucky drops a clue with the current resident that they would head to Pasadena. Instead they check out of the motel and camp out. Later that night, it begins to storm and the kids take shelter in a cave. Lucky goes back out to get their gear, a rock slide covers the entrance and traps Emily. Lucky tries to get to her and is hit in the head by a falling rock and knocked unconscious.

Things aren't bad enough, next a rattlesnake enters the cave and heads towards her. Lucky comes to and works to get into the cave. He hears Emily scream and then go quiet. Inside, Em has taken a big rock and hit the snake in the head, killing it. Lucky hears the noise and works desperately to free her. He gets her out, fortunately the rain has stopped. She is semi-hysterical and Lucky sits with his arm around her, reassuring her.

The kids head back to PC, to the empty Spencer house. Emily doesn't know what to do now that they have hit a dead end. She is afraid to go back to the Q's and doesn't really want to. Lucky suggests that they stay at his house till his parents come home. Emily misses Alan, and says that when she thought she might die in the cave that she regretted not being able to see him or to make up with Monica. Lucky goes to the store for milk. Em turns on the TV and sees a news report that Alan was in a car accident and has been taken to GH. She leaves Lucky a note.

Luke and Laura return home, Lucky hides in the basement. He is intent on keeping L&L together searching for him as long as possible. Foster gives away Lucky's location by sitting with his nose pressed intently against the basement door, L&L can't help but notice. They fake a big fight which draws Lucky out. Then they admit to him that things are better between them, Lucky is thrilled! He points out that the timing for them to get back together is perfect as it is their anniversary!

Over dinner, Lucky tells them about the cave adventure while Laura winces. Lucky points out that his plan worked as things seem more back to normal. He can see that L&L are closer. Lucky begs them to get back together, he gets tears in his eyes it is so important to him.

Thanksgiving Day, The Spencer's have turkey with the Jones family.

Lucky visits Em and tells her about his parents getting back together. He is so triumphant. She wishes she could do something to get A&M back together. Robin calls Luke and tells him that Stone has died, Luke tells Lucky. They discuss life after death, Lucky is incredibly wise and mature. Em goes to the gatehouse and has hot chocolate with Ned, Lois, and Jason.

Lucky is getting into gambling. He is trying to recoop the money he spent on the trip and still owes Luke. First he takes Sonny, then he gambles and wins off his friends. When Luke figures out that Lucky is taking money from his friends he talks to Lucky about the friendship code, that you never con a friend.  Sonny stops by and tells them the Feds have locked him out of his apt. The problem is that Stone's ashes are still there. Lucky and Luke help him break in, Lucky distracts the manger. Lucky brings Luke an expensive cigar from his winnings. Mike warns Luke that Lucky is hustling. Luke isn't concerned, he seems to expect it after all he is Luke's son. Lucky gets involved with a card game with non-friends on a weekly basis. The first time he loses to them he borrows against his allowance. He then loses $480 and they threaten him if he can't pay up. He is in over his head.

Lucky goes to Luke for help and tells him he has run up a gambling debt of $480. Luke doesn't seem concerned that Lucky is gambling that much money just that he lost. Luke refuses to loan him the money. Luke advises him to find a "mark" that can afford to lose $480. They are off the the Q's for a party and Lucky wants to know if hustling your host is okay. Luke's expression seems to indicate that yes it is when that host is Edward!

Luke and Lucky stop by the Q's. It's Emily's birthday. Lucky gives her a cactus to remind her of her home in Arizona (or was it New Mx?). Monica gives her a garnet ring, her birthstone. Lucky lures Edward into a poker game. They are joined by Luke, Ned, AJ, and Alan. Lucky wins a bundle off of the Q's, $520. Luke tells Lucky that Mary Mae has died. Lucky arrives with Foster (who he tries to make wait outside) at her funeral. Lucky, Sly, and Em are at Kelly's after school. One of Lucky's poker buddies stops by and asks if he wants to join a high stakes poker game. Lucky says no that he has sworn off of cards. The guys says its too bad that with Lucky's talent he could really clean up. Lucky stops the guy outside and asks how much it would be to buy into the game, it is $500.

At home, Lucky works on memorizing cards played and has Mike test him. Lucky tells Mike that he likes poker as there is an element of risk, of chance, but it is also a game of skill. Mike looks concerned, he knows himself about the addiction of gambling. Luke finds Lucky in the hall closet. He doesn't buy Lucky's story. He senses that his son is lying. After Lucky goes upstairs, Luke checks the emergency backpack and the money is still all there. Later, Lucky returns and takes the money.

Lucky joins the high stakes poker game with Harper and his cronies. Lucky wins big and is thrilled. He walks away hooked on the rush of winning. Harper asks Rolf (the teen who lured Lucky in) if he is sure Lucky is good for the money when he starts losing. He assures him he thinks he is as Lucky came up with the money when he lost to him.

Dvd #4B Lucky heads to see Em and tells her about winning and shows her a serious wad of cash. He then scams Edward for another $50 on getting him to bet on a card trick of Lucky's.

Sonny comes by and tells Luke and Lucky that he is getting married on Friday and invites them to his wedding to Lily. At Luke's, Lucky turns on the radio and he and Luke dance hip hop. Sonny's bachelor party takes place in Luke's back room over a game of pool. The guys share toasts and smash the glasses in the fireplace. Lucky arrives at the wedding (I didn't include the wedding). Afterwards, Sonny and Lily celebrate with a few friends at Luke's club.

Lucky goes back to play poker again with Harper and gang. This time he looks worried as he just barely breaks event. Luke returns from his latest adventure and gives Lucky riverboat gambling cards. Lucky is back with Harper's gang. They sucker him in and he goes into the hole for a lot of money. Harper immediately begins pressuring Lucky for the money. He gives him till 12:00 midnight.

Harper calls the house looking for the money from Lucky. Lucky tells his parents it is a teacher calling about a late paper. He tries to get L&L to go to bed. Luke picks up that Lucky is trying to get rid of him. Lucky covers again. After they go to bed, he cleans out the emergency money to pay Harper.

Next, he is borrowing from Bobbie and Emily. He still owes a lot of money and wants more money to continue playing! Mike senses that Lucky is in over his head. He advises him to pay up and get out. Next, Lucky is stealing the petty cash from his father's club. Then he tries to get an advance of $1,000 against a credit card but can't when he needs his father to sign for it. Harper shows up with another deadline. Emily shows up at the house while Harper is there.

After Harper leaves, Lucky tells her that he owes $2,200! Emily tries to give him the ring that Alan and Monica gave her for her birthday so he can pawn it. He refuses to take it. instead, he suggest that she help him steal from the Q's. She is horrified. She urges him to go to his father, she is afraid that Harper will hurt him. He tells her no way. He also can't borrow from Mike or Sonny as they would tell his father. It is also a responsibility issue and he wants to do this on his own. He tells her to go to school and he will stay home and figure it out. She can't leave him to deal with this alone. So she tells him she will let him into the Q's that most of the family should be gone.

At the Q's, Em shows Lucky some valuable statues/vases/art objects that he could "borrow" to pawn. They hide when Edward and Ned come in arguing about the newly brain damaged Jason. The kids sneak out when their backs are turned.

Later, Lucky tells Em that he pawned the vase but he still doesn't have enough money. He only has $1500. She wants him to borrow from Ned, he can't do that either. Lucky goes to meet Harper. He asks him for an extension on the remaining $700 that he owes. Harper decides to teach him a lesson and has his goons start beating Lucky up. Then he tells them to break his finger. Damian comes along and stops them. Lucky is not happy with Damian's interference. Damian figures out that Lucky owes them money and he pays the $700. Harper and gang take off. Damian reminds the indignant Lucky that he owes Lucky for saving his life in the catacombs. Damian promises to keep Lucky's secret and tells them that now there are even and Lucky doesn't owe him anything.

However, Damian goes straight to L&L and taunts them with his knowledge of Lucky's gambling debt. He is so snide and insulting that Laura tries to take a swing at his head with a baseball bat. Luke stops her. She restrains herself, then hauls off and clocks him with her fist. Luke and Laura confront Lucky at home. Laura is horrified to realize that he stole from the Q's. Luke realizes that he stole from petty cash. Luke tells him that he will get the vase back and have Lucky return it to the Q's. They send him off to school. Later, Lucky and Luke talk. Lucky cries that he tells his father he didn't want to tell him that he had lost. He just wanted to recoop the money. He wants his father to be proud of him and didn't want to disapoint him with news that he lost so much money. Luke tells him he usually is proud of his son.

Damian is seen downstairs in the Ward House, he is knocked out from behind and the lantern he has catches fire. Luke goes over to the Ward House to see Laura and finds the house engulfed in flames. Laura is inside babysitting. Luke races in to save Laura. The town rapidly gathers outside as word spreads about the fire. First Bobbie learns that Luke (who has gone inside), Laura and Lulu are all trapped inside...then Lucky arrives (he heard it on the radio). He stand there shaken waiting for word. He tries to rush into the building but Tony holds him back. There is lots of commotion with fire trucks, firemen (this was taped on a studio lot). A shadowy figure emerges from the building, then another. It's Luke and Laura wrapped in a blanket, each holding a baby. Everyone seems okay other than some smoke inhalation. Damian's body is brought out. He died in the fire which is being investigated for arson.

The next day, Luke tells Lucky the way for him to help his family is to return the vase to the Q's. At the Q's, Edward is ranting about the missing vase. He thinks that Jason stole it. Emily comes in and tells them that she stole it. They don't believe her, they think she is lying to cover for Jason. This is the moment Lucky enters. He tells them that she didn't take it that he did. They Q's all look at him in shock. Lucky tells them about his gambling loses and he just planned on "borrowing" the vase to get the money to pay off his debt. He thought he could then win enough to get it back. The Q's are so relieved that it wasn't Jason that they don't seem to upset about Lucky and Em's involvement. Back home, Lucky tells Luke that the Q's were so nice about it that it made him feel worse.

At the reading of Damian's will, he leaves behind some strange bequests for his enemies. Luke is lying on the sofa reading a book on Lotus 1-2-3, a plate balanced on his chest. Lucky comes down the stairs complaining that he overslept - why didn't anyone wake him? Luke explains the new house rules, which basically amount to taking responsibility for one's self. Lucky, somewhat taken aback, tries a technique which has worked in the past to divide and conquer, "This was Mom's idea, wasn't it?" But Luke, who has learned a thing or two about parenting lately, responds, "I stand with her."

Lucky sees a computer on the table and asks about it. Luke explains that Justus got new computers for the Foundation, and this is the old one. Lucky speculates about the system's specifications, and Luke explains that there is a catch. Luke enumerates Lucky's debts, $1500 to the emergency backpack, $500 to the club, $1700 to cover the cost of getting the Q's vase back. Lucky doesn't know where to get the money. He could "sling hash", but then his grades would suffer and he'd never get into college and his life would be ruined. Luke listens to this, amused. Then Lucky makes the predictable suggestion that he could "go for the quick buck." Luke explains that Laura realizes that both he and Lucky need something productive to keep them out of trouble. Lucky's grades haven't been very good lately, so Luke offers him a deal, $20 taken off the debt for each A, $10 for every B, and the debt goes up for any D's or F's. The computer is supposed to help him with school-work. Lucky tries the divide-and-conquer approach one more time, suggesting that Luke never cared about Lucky's grades, so clearly Laura put Luke up to this. Luke metaphorically explains that he *does* care about the grades if they indicate a problem. Lucky points out that it's a bribe, Luke suggests that he think of it as a gamble on himself, if he has the courage.

Note: I have two hours or so of footage to describe. I expect I will add an Early Lucky #4C dvd to this set to complete it.>/font>
