Elizabeth
comforted a tearful Robin, who worried about the effects of HIV on her
pregnancy, even though, as a medical professional, she knew that HIV was
not a deterrent to a successful pregnancy. She also wanted to make
arrangements for her child in case something happened to her. She was
afraid it would be too much for Mac to handle. Elizabeth gently suggested
that Patrick would be the logical choice since he was the father, but
Robin did not want to force the responsibility on Patrick, who she thought
was, at best, a reluctant participant in the process. Later, Robin
eavesdropped as Elizabeth gently probed Patrick about his intentions
toward Robin and his child.
An irate Carly rushed out of the hotel and off to Jason to cry on his
shoulder. She spewed out her anger and animosity about Kate. She toyed
with the idea of having sex with Sonny just to get revenge on Kate, an
idea she discarded during another venomous tirade. Jason listened to her
and made a few calm remarks. He told her that giving up the boys and the
business was also hard on Sonny. He suggested that she give Sonny a chance
to be happy in his new life. Jason continued to comfort Carly as best he
could while she plotted ways to separate Sonny and Kate.
At General Hospital, Elizabeth and Patrick talked about parenthood and the
role a father had in a child's life. Robin walked in while they were
talking. She thanked Elizabeth for her friendship but told Patrick that
Elizabeth was wrong. Robin was quite vocal about raising her child alone
as a single parent. Patrick seemed annoyed by Robin's attitude and walked
out of the break room. Later, Robin and Elizabeth were in the locker room.
Robin once again thanked Elizabeth for trying to talk to Patrick about the
baby. She admitted that she had given Elizabeth reason to believe that
Robin wanted Patrick to be involved with their child, but reiterated that
Patrick did not want to be a father. Elizabeth told Robin that she felt
that Robin was not giving Patrick enough credit.
Diane was surprised when Jason walked into his office for their meeting on
time. Sonny had always kept her waiting. Jason was equally surprised to
see Diane crying. She explained that she was emotional due to Father's Day
on the upcoming weekend. Her father had died from cancer previously, and
she missed him. Diane always tried to tell him she loved him, but she was
never able to explain that her father had been her hero. She talked about
seeing other men who gave up fatherhood or were not good fathers and how
it frustrated her. After their meeting, Jason decided to go see Sonny. He
brought him a box Michael had ordered months earlier for Sonny for
Father's Day. Sonny opened the boxes and found life vests. Jason explained
that Michael had wanted Sonny to take himself and Morgan out on the boat
in the upcoming summer months. Michael loved Sonny and thought he was the
best father. Sonny thanked Jason before he left.
Jerry followed Claudia, as he threatened her and was getting physical with
her on the docks when Jason appeared. Jason asked what was going on, and
Jerry told Claudia to explain to Jason what they had been discussing.
Jerry had told Claudia to keep quiet about the fact that he had stabbed
her or he would tell Jason about the part she played in Michael's
shooting. Claudia covered by making it appear that they were talking about
leasing property on the waterfront. After Jerry left, Claudia thanked
Jason for rescuing her again. Before going on his way, Jason warned
Claudia to be careful of Jerry.
Carly went to Jason's apartment and replayed her conversation with Alexis
for him, and then told Jason that she was heartbroken to see how torn up
Sonny had been on Father's Day when she took him a present made by Morgan.
A part of her wanted to tear up the custody agreement. Jason told her she
had to do what she thought was right. Carly said that she had done the
right thing, because being around Sonny was dangerous for Morgan. Carly
said that it was difficult for her to find a balance. Jason told Carly how
much he admired her strength. He told her that going on with her life was
the way that she would get through the terrible tragedy of Michael's
shooting. Carly verbalized that she had to take care of her husband and
child. Both she and Jason had tears in their eyes as they hugged. Carly
thanked him.
Claudia found a drunken Spinelli, lying flat on his back, raving about
Damian and the Jackal. Claudia felt sorry for him and tried to help.
Eventually, because Spinelli could not stand up, Claudia carried him home
on piggyback. She managed to get him to Jason's place. When Jason opened
the door to his apartment, Spinelli was on the couch, on top of Claudia,
making groaning sounds. Jason demanded Claudia leave Spinelli alone, but
she pointed out Spinelli was on top of her. Jason realized Spinelli was
drunk and asked why he had been drinking. Spinelli explained he was trying
to take the edge off while he was trying to learn dating tips from Jax.
Claudia had found Spinelli on the docks, preparing to sleep there for the
night. She took him back to Jason's penthouse, but Jason didn't appear
grateful. The two bickered until Spinelli asked Claudia if she would like
to "break bread with them."
Claudia told Jason he needed to order some pizza for Spinelli before he
threw up all over the floor. When the pizza arrived, Jason told Claudia to
leave. She replied she hadn't stocked her fridge in her new apartment
since her house had burned down. She would eat her pizza and leave.
Claudia told Jason he wasn't very nice to Spinelli. If Jason were nicer,
maybe Spinelli wouldn't need to drink to feel good about himself and try
to land a date. Spinelli thanked her for standing up for him but said it
was unnecessary. Jason provided him with a job and a place to live, in
addition to their friendship. Jason admitted he didn't always treat
Spinelli the way some friends do. Claudia and Jason continued to argue
over how he treated Spinelli until Jason asked Claudia if she was done
with her pizza yet. Claudia opened the door to leave, but a man in a full
bio-suit came in and told her she couldn't leave. The man who had
delivered the pizza had a form of the Avian Bird Flu, which was highly
contagious. Everyone would have to stay in the penthouse, because they
were all under quarantine.
Spinelli felt responsible for exposing Claudia and Jason to a dangerous
virus. He became distraught when he learned that there were some very
disturbing side effects that included deep and prolonged delirium during
which the patient could ramble private thoughts. Jason and Claudia
appeared less than pleased to hear the news. After a brief call with
Johnny, Claudia invited Spinelli to a game of pool to break the boredom.
Jason listened as Claudia flirted with Spinelli while she taught him how
to shoot pool. Annoyed with the banter, Jason stood up, walked to the pool
table and wrenched the pool stick out of Spinelli's hand. When Jason
barked at Claudia to leave Spinelli alone, Claudia responded by daring
Jason to a game of pool. He wasn't interested and walked over to his desk.
Claudia followed Jason and did her best to push his buttons. She taunted
him, gloating that she had done research on Jason and had learned quite a
bit about him. Jason turned and gave her his full attention. Claudia took
that as a sign to continue. She began talking about Jason's life as a
Quartermaine, heir to a vast fortune, and then the accident which that
left him brain damaged. Unwisely, Claudia tried to use his injury to bait
Jason. Jason responded by bringing up Michael's brain damage, which
effectively shut Claudia up. Jason wasn't done though. He noticed
Claudia's reaction and suggested that she looked suspiciously guilty. He
went on to call the person who was responsible for Michael's shooting a
few vile names before threatening to question Claudia if she fell ill and
became delirious. Moments later, disgusted with Claudia's company, Jason
decided to go to his room. On his way up the stairs he was overcome with
dizziness and collapsed. Spinelli and Claudia rushed to Jason's side and
realized that he had a high fever.
Claudia called the health department for advice in dealing with Jason's
condition. Spinelli frantically tried to do something to help Stone Cold
and made him some juice from a berry with special antioxidants. Jason
realized Spinelli was trying to help, and he did his best to ease young
Spinelli's mind. Claudia also helped and asked Spinelli if he could look
up some information on the internet. After he left, Claudia brought some
water and a washcloth in to give Jason a sponge bath. Claudia tried her
best to nurse Jason through his fever, but he would have none of it. Jason
refused to allow Claudia to touch him, much less take off his shirt so
that she could give him a sponge bath. Claudia tried to bully Jason into
it but instead of complying, Jason yelled for Spinelli. When Spinelli came
downstairs, Jason ordered him to find a way to have the quarantine lifted.
Claudia countered the order. She insisted that they remain in the
penthouse until they were told by medical professionals that it was safe
to leave. Jason eventually resigned himself to the fact that he was stuck
in the penthouse with Claudia, but made his feelings clear. Jason did not
trust Claudia nor did he want her to nurse him during his illness. While
Spinelli took Jason's temperature, Claudia took a call from Anthony.
Anthony was happy to hear that Claudia was stuck with Jason. He thought it
was the perfect opportunity for Claudia to kill his rival. Anthony said it
would allow her to work her way back into the family fold and please her
father at the same time.
Later, Claudia woke Jason up and offered him some soup, which she had
prepared. Jason refused to touch it. Claudia tried to prove that it wasn't
poisoned by sampling a bit of it, but Jason wouldn't be swayed. He did not
trust anything that Claudia offered him. They were interrupted when
Spinelli came barreling down the stairs with news about Ian Devlin's
offshore account. Before Spinelli went further, Jason turned to Claudia
and ordered her out of the room. Claudia grumbled but left the room. As
soon as she was out of hearing range, Spinelli told Jason that someone had
made a withdrawal from Ian's account. Jason was certain that the person
who took the money was a partner of Ian's and therefore another possible
suspect involved Michael's shooting. Spinelli remained with Jason until he
fell asleep again. When Claudia came back downstairs, Spinelli asked her
to sit with Jason so that he could continue his work upstairs. After
Spinelli left the living room, Claudia walked over to the sofa where Jason
was resting and carefully removed a pillow. She stood over Jason's prone
body with a pillow clutched in her hands while she watched him sleep.
Liz picked up Jake from daycare and took him to Robin's apartment at
Robin's request. Robin wanted to see how Patrick dealt with caring for a
baby. She was amused to watch Patrick as he struggled. Robin saved him
from feeding Jake after he successfully changed a diaper, though. When Liz
arrived to pick up Jake, Patrick made the girls come clean about their
scheme. He knew they had planned it out and had called Jake's daycare to
confirm his suspicions. Although reluctant at first, Liz gave her advice
to the soon-to-be parents. Liz realized not every man was cut out to be a
dad, but it would be important for Robin and Patrick to communicate so one
would not expect more than the other was willing to give. After Liz left,
Patrick commented to Robin that Liz was very smart and he had forgotten
how much real life experience she had. He thought Robin had handled the
situation very well, though, since Liz had sided with him. Robin thought
that comment was funny, because she felt Liz had sided with her.
Jason's fever was going down and he appeared to be feeling much better. He
told Claudia she could leave, and just as she was about to walk out the
door, a pale and sweaty Spinelli walked down the stairs and collapsed.
Claudia and Jason got Spinelli on the couch, and Spinelli rambled on in an
apparent delirious state. Jason tried to hush Spinelli, to no avail.
Although it was difficult at times, Claudia deciphered Spinelli's code and
understood that Spinelli was warning Jason about Sonny. Spinelli thought
Sonny felt responsible for what happened to Michael. In order to punish
himself, he gave up his business, the thing he had worked all his life
for, to Jason. Spinelli thought Sonny would find a way back into the
business and force Jason's hand to kill Sonny. Claudia and Jason realized
Spinelli was worse off than they originally thought and called 911. At the
hospital, Claudia tried to assure Jason that his friend would be all
right. She told Jason that Spinelli's thoughts about Sonny were dead on,
despite the delirium.
Jason asked Elizabeth about Spinelli. Elizabeth comforted Jason and told
him what a wonderful friend he was. Claudia also arrived and wanted to
know about Spinelli's condition. Jason did not want her around. Jason sat
with Spinelli, who offered to move out of the penthouse because he feared
that he was a burden to Jason. Elizabeth listened as Jason also told
Spinelli how much he cared for him and how proud it made him that Spinelli
wanted to be his friend. Jason stayed overnight with Spinelli at the
hospital to make sure he would be okay. Claudia came to visit them in the
morning but left shortly after Spinelli awoke. Not realizing Liz was in
the doorway, Spinelli commented to Jason that he thought Claudia liked
Jason. Liz did her best to ignore the comments, but Spinelli made things
worse by back-pedaling so Liz would not be hurt. After Liz left,
Jason asked Spinelli why he would ever think Claudia liked him. Jason was
mad at Spinelli for his meddling,
but Maxie came in and interrupted the argument.
Jason arrived home to find Diane busily cleaning his penthouse. He told
her the virus only lasted four hours, so any additional cleaning was
unnecessary. Jason was curious to hear about the business certificates and
the possibility of the police department shutting down one of their
organizations. Diane told him that Port Charles politics should be the
least of his concerns. Carly had a serious, emotional problem. Due to
client/attorney privilege, she could not reveal specifics. Jason asked if
Carly had mentioned having a plan, and Diane said she was under the
impression that Carly did have a plan. Diane mentioned she felt Kate was
only a break for Sonny from the catastrophic Carly. Diane asked what
pulled Jason and Carly towards each other when Carly always brought him
the worst catastrophes. Jason said he would do anything for Carly and he
knew she would do the same for him. Diane told him to be prepared to do
anything for Carly. After Diane left, Jason started listening to the
numerous voicemails Carly had left for him. Carly soon arrived and pulled
out a pregnancy test from the brown paper bag she was carrying. She needed
to find out if she and Jason would be having a baby together.
At the nurses' station, Robin assumed that Elizabeth agreed with her about
keeping Patrick away from the baby. When she tried to commiserate and get
some support, Elizabeth shared her experiences and told Robin that she did
not agree with Robin because a court battle would not be in the best
interest of the child. She also told a stunned Robin that despite the
divorce, Lucky spent as much time with their children as he had when
Elizabeth was married to him. She went on to tell Robin that if a man like
Patrick came into her life she would be glad to have him as part of her
family.
Carly was with Jason at the penthouse. She was afraid to take a home
pregnancy test and came to Jason for support. She begged Jason to say that
her unborn baby belonged to him. When he wondered why, she admitted that
she had had grief sex with Sonny in the limo, on the ride home after
placing Michael in a long-term care facility for coma patients. She was
afraid that a paternity test would prove that Sonny was the father. When
Jason said no, that he would not tell a lie for her, Carly said that she
had already told Sonny that Jason was the father. Jason was very upset. He
insisted that Carly take the pregnancy test before he explained why he
would not pretend to be the father of her child to help her keep the child
away from Sonny. Carly took the test but forced Jason to read the results.
They were both relieved when Jason told her that the test was negative.
Jason was adamant when he told Carly to keep him out of her tangled web of
deception. He advised her to be truthful with Jax, but she feared that she
would lose Jax if he found out she had slept with Sonny. Carly hugged
Jason and told him that despite what he said, she knew in her heart that
he loved her and would have lied for her if she had been pregnant. Jason
looked disgusted as she cheerfully left the penthouse in search of Jax.
After Carly left, Jason answered a knock on the door. It was Sonny, who
wanted to know if Jason was sleeping with Carly.
Sonny asked Jason if he was the father of Carly's baby. Jason said there
was no baby, because he had seen the test. Jason also confirmed he was not
sleeping with Carly. Sonny asked if Jason would have agreed to Carly's lie
if she had been pregnant, but Jason didn't want to answer a hypothetical
question. Carly was not pregnant, so it didn't matter. Carly had just been
trying to fix a potential problem by lying. It was what she always did.
Jason reminded Sonny they were all still trying to cope with Michael's
injury. Everyone had to deal with it in their own way, in their own time.
Getting out of the business and marrying Kate was Sonny's way of dealing
with it. Jason wanted Sonny to be honest, though. It was all about
Michael, and it always would be.
Spinelli had been left sitting in his wheelchair by the nurse's station
when a nurse had to attend to other business. Liz offered to take him back
to his room, but Spinelli couldn't resist trying to explain his
conversation with Jason about Claudia. Liz threatened him with
"involuntary sedation" if he continued to talk about Jason.
Later, Liz found Spinelli once again by the nurse's station. Spinelli was
about to be released, and he was just waiting for his ride back home. He
tried to explain about Jason and Claudia again, but Jason soon arrived.
Jason was upset to see Spinelli still trying to dig his way out of the
hole with Elizabeth. She saved them all from continuing the conversation
and said she understood. Spinelli tried to get Liz to wheel him to the
car, because he felt some animosity between the parents of little Jacob
Martin. Liz said she and Jason had their own lives, and she walked away.
At Jason's penthouse, Jason showed concern for Spinelli's health. Spinelli
feared that Jason was still mad at him because of what Spinelli had said
to Elizabeth. Jason said that he was not mad, but he did not want Spinelli
to upset Elizabeth. Spinelli told Jason that he did not think that his
words upset Elizabeth. He thought that she was upset because Claudia was
free to talk and have interaction with Jason on a casual basis and
Elizabeth was not. Jason looked thoughtful. But before he could respond,
Maxie arrived to visit Spinelli. Jason was quickly sent on his way.
Jason bumped into Claudia who wanted to talk. They made an appointment for
the next morning in Jason's office. Claudia reproached Jason for treating
her so coldly and reminded him that she had nursed him, when she could
have killed him, as well as Spinelli when they were in quarantine with a
virus. She thought the least he could do was thank her. Politely, Jason
thanked her for taking care of Spinelli before walking away. When Jason
came into Sonny's office, Sonny tried to give him advice, but Jason merely
asked Sonny if he wanted the business back? When Sonny said he did not,
Jason asked Sonny what he did want. Sonny said he was offering his
expertise on shipping routes. Jason thanked Sonny for his offer, and then
said that the shipment had already landed. He told Sonny that he had taken
over the business so that Sonny could be legit. He pointed out that Sonny
could not be legitimate if he was still helping out with the business.
Sonny left the office rankled after Jason made it clear that there was no
longer a place in the organization for Sonny.
Jason returned to his penthouse to find Carly urging Spinelli to use his
computer skills to dig up dirt on Kate because a furious Carly had learned
that Kate had kissed Jax. Jason tried to stop her, but Carly was
determined to get information on Kate that would force her to leave town.
Jason sent Spinelli away so that he could talk to Carly. When he asked her
why she was going after Kate, she told him that Kate had kissed Jax. An
incredulous Jason replied that Carly had made love to Sonny. He then asked
her which was worse, Kate kissing Jax or Carly sleeping with Sonny. Carly
explained her behavior as a "mistake" that she regretted, but
insisted that Kate's kissing Jax was a deliberate attempt on Kate's part
to ruin Carly's marriage to Jax. Jason tried to reason with Carly, but she
was so convinced that Kate was out to get her that she would not listen.
Jason told her that if she did not drop her vendetta against Kate that
Sonny would get mad and tell Jax that Carly and Sonny had sex in the back
of a limo. Then Jason asked if that was what Carly really wanted. He asked
her if she wanted Jax to find out that she had sex with Sonny.
Jason tried to talk some sense into Carly regarding Kate and Sonny's
relationship. Jason realized Carly was still in mourning over Michael and
all of her actions were due to that. Spinelli ran through the door and
yelled out that Jason needed to rush to the Valkyrie's side. Spinelli was
shocked to see Carly in the room and tried to skirt around his comments.
Carly forced the information out of Spinelli, though. He had set up a
search engine to notify him of any activity with Jax's name. He was
alerted to a press picture of Kate with her head in Jax's lap. Carly
thanked Spinelli for his hard work, and left.
Robin went to Kelly's for takeout and ran into Jason. She asked him for
some advice, like he used to give her when they had dated. Robin explained
what had been going on with Patrick, and Jason did his best to understand.
He pointed out the pregnancy had changed Robin and it could very likely
also change Patrick. They stopped talking suddenly when Liz started to
walk into Kelly's and stopped when she saw them. Robin thanked Jason for
his insights about Patrick. When Elizabeth arrived on the scene, Jason
excused himself and noted that it was dangerous for anyone to be seen in
the open with him. As he departed, he told Robin that if Patrick really
cared for Robin and her unborn child, he would do whatever was best for
the child. Robin seemed to listen. Elizabeth sat down to talk with Robin.
Robin persisted in thinking that Patrick did not really want to be a
father. Elizabeth asked Robin if Patrick was truthful with her. When Robin
said, "Yes," Elizabeth asked Robin why she could not allow
herself to believe him. She asked Robin to at least consider the
possibility that things would work out with Patrick.
Jason returned to his penthouse and found Carly waiting for him. She was
upset about the photo of Kate and Jax and blamed Kate for all her
problems. When Carly got angry about the kiss between Jax and Kate, Jason
realized that Jax and Kate had kissed on the same night that Carly had sex
with Sonny. When he pointed that out, Carly rationalized that sleeping
with Sonny was an act of grief between two people who would never be
together again and therefore was "old cheating," but the kiss
between Jax and Kate was "new cheating" and therefore much
worse. When Jason asked if she had told Jax about the sex with Sonny, she
said she had not because it would destroy her marriage to Jax, and
besides, she continued, the kiss was much worse than sex with Sonny. Jason
appeared nonplussed and tried to reason with Carly, but she would not be
swayed by any opinion but her own. Jason told Carly that she was giving
him a headache after she said that everything she was doing was for Jax's
own good. When she left, Jason appeared dazed. Spinelli showed up with
soup. He wanted to know how to talk to irate females. He wanted to know
how Jason soothed Carly. A rueful Jason admitted that he was not always
successful. They commiserated with each other about their woes with angry
women.
In Jason's office, Spinelli asked his friend for relationship advice.
Before Jason could answer, Diane walked in and announced that Logan Hayes
had been found murdered. She asked Jason if he had an alibi for the
previous night. She was dismayed when she learned that his two closest
friends, Spinelli and Carly, could provide an alibi for him. Diane perked
up when she learned that Robin Scorpio could provide an alibi as well.
Diane was certain that a respected, and pregnant, doctor would make an
ideal witness for the defense in the event that Jason was charged with
Logan's murder. Jason pointed out that he did not murder Logan and
therefore did not see the need for alibis and witnesses. Diane reminded
Jason that Logan worked for the Zaccharas, Jason's mob rivals, which made
Jason a prime suspect in Logan's murder. Spinelli realized that the only
way to clear Jason of any potential murder charges would be to find the
real killer. Spinelli turned to his computer and began checking for
surveillance tapes in and around the piers, hoping to spot something that
would lead them to the real killer.
Detective Harper arrived at Jason's office shortly afterwards. When he
began questioning Jason, Diane went into attorney mode. She told Harper
that her client refused to answer any questions at the advice of his
attorney. In response, Harper pulled out the handcuffs and arrested Jason.
At the Port Charles Police Department, Diane told Jason that the police
could hold him for 24 hours. She went on to reveal that the evidence
against him was flimsy at best and that the police wouldn't be able to
keep him in custody. Before she left, to attend to another case, Diane
told Jason that she had arranged for him to have visitors since he tended
to be quite popular when he was in custody. Jason stood in a lineup while
Harper asked Nadine if she recognized the driver of the car that she saw
speeding away after she found Logan's body.
Carly burst into the police station and demanded Jason be let go. Nadine
admitted she only saw a black sedan dropping off the body and just barely
got a glance at the driver. The police officers were furious at Carly's
interference, but they allowed her into the interrogation room to talk to
Jason. As they talked, Carly admitted to Jason that she had to stay away
from the hotel temporarily because she started a disaster with Kate and
the press. Carly allowed the press full access to Crimson headquarters and
also started a rumor that Kate had previously had an affair with her
former boss, Warren. Jason arrived and reassured Spinelli he was doing a
great job. Jason needed Spinelli to find any surveillance videos that
might reveal the driver of the sedan that had dumped Logan's body.
Spinelli went right to work.
Claudia spied Jason in her parking garage. He was looking at her car. She
pulled a gun on him and wanted to know what he was doing. Jason told her
that there was video footage of her car around Nikolas' clinic about the
time Logan's body was dumped there. He also told her that it made it look
like Johnny had killed Logan. Claudia scoffed and asked if the video
footage showed her license plate. Jason said no, but told her that there
was evidence on her car that the plate had been changed. Claudia asked
Jason why he cared. He said it was because he was a suspect, so he had to
find out who really did it. Claudia put her gun away and told Jason that
he was better off than Johnny.
Before they could talk further, the cops arrived with guns drawn. Claudia
insisted that they had no reason to search her car without a warrant and
tried to call her lawyer. Jason refused to answer questions without his
lawyer. Lucky and the other detective did not like those answers, so they
arrested Claudia and Jason and took them to the police station. At the
PCPD, they were handcuffed to the table in the interrogation room and left
alone. Claudia begged Jason not to tell what he knew. Jason said that he
would never tell the cops anything. He told Claudia that she and Johnny
would have real problems after the police got done with forensics on the
car. Claudia said that she was not an amateur and that she would be home
before dinner. Jason was skeptical and when Claudia asked what he
recommended, but he told her to get a lawyer and do damage control.
Claudia wanted to know whom to call, Trevor or Ric. Before Jason could
respond, Mac came in and told them that they were free to go, because the
cops knew who killed Logan.
Down at the station, Jason was finally released. Claudia was brought in
after her car was confiscated and searched. Maxie and Spinelli
cuddled on the couch after making love until Jason walked in. Spinelli
politely asked Jason if he could step outside while they dressed, and
Jason obliged. Maxie rushed to get dressed and ran out of the penthouse as
quickly as possible. When Jason walked back into his living room, he asked
Spinelli if he was all right. Spinelli said he was better than all right.
He had found nirvana with his one true love. Later, Jason brought an
orange soda to Spinelli as he recited Shakespeare. Spinelli was preparing
for his next meeting with Maxie, but he was surprised how quickly he
received the call from her. Before he left, Spinelli told Jason about
Maxie's confession and Lulu's involvement in Logan's murder.
At the penthouse, Spinelli was worried about the direction of his
relationship with Maxie and turned to Jason for advice. Spinelli told
Jason that Maxie had apologized for sleeping with Spinelli, and vowed that
it would never happen again. To Spinelli's frustration, they were
interrupted when Max stopped by to see Jason. Once Spinelli left the room,
Max told Jason about his and Milo's decision to go to work for Sonny. Once
Jason ascertained that Max and Milo weren't pressured into working for
Sonny, he gave the brothers his blessing. Before Max left, Jason asked Max
to let him know if Sonny was in trouble. Jason explained that, contrary to
what Sonny thought, Jason had not turned his back on his friend.
Jason suggested to Spinelli that Maxie might want to preserve her
friendship with Spinelli rather than risk it on a romance that might not
last. Unfortunately, their discussion was once again interrupted when
Carly pounded on the door. After she marched in and dismissed Spinelli,
Carly turned to Jason and asked him to help her get rid of Kate. Jason
tried to calm Carly down, to no avail. Carly insisted that Kate had
designs on Jax and was constantly trying to hit on her husband. Jason
pointed out that one kiss hardly equated to repeated attempts at
seduction, but Carly refused to listen. Rather, Carly viewed it as an
attempt on Jason's part to defend Kate. Jason switched tactics and
reminded Carly that her schemes tended to backfire. Carly ignored the
warning and declared that getting Kate out of the way would not cost her
Jax. Carly's main concern seemed to be Sonny's reaction. Carly worried
that Sonny might retaliate and tell Jax about his tryst with Carly in the
limo. Later, Spinelli opened the penthouse door to find Maxie on the other
side. She walked in and told Jason that she needed his help; things with
Lulu had gotten worse.
At the hospital, Matt ordered several tests for Jerry Jacks. Elizabeth
thought the tests were excessive for what was essentially a bruise.
However, she continued jotting down the orders until Lucky walked up and
asked to speak to her for a moment. Lucky apologized and explained that he
wouldn't be able to take Cameron to a baseball game over the weekend
because of work. Elizabeth waved away his concerns and told Lucky that it
wasn't a problem. Lucky reached out and grabbed Elizabeth's hands as he
thanked her profusely. Just then, Sam walked up and began shouting at
Lucky. Elizabeth tried to explain that Sam had misread things, but Sam and
Lucky ignored her as they yelled at each other. Everyone watched at the
argument escalated. Sam announced that she was through with Lucky and
stormed out of the hospital. As she passed Elizabeth, Sam stopped for a
moment and told her, "He's all yours!" Elizabeth stopped by the
free clinic to asked Nikolas to talk to Lucky. Elizabeth told Nikolas
about the fight between Lucky and Sam, and insisted that she didn't want
to be the cause of Lucky losing Sam. Nikolas wondered why Elizabeth cared,
given the animosity between her and Sam. Elizabeth said that she was under
the impression that she had reached a truce with Sam. Elizabeth also
admitted that, after everything she had put Lucky through, the least that
she could do was step aside and let Lucky be happy with Sam.
Jason asked Maxie about Logan's behavior on the day he died. Maxie
explained she had seen Logan with Dr. Hunter and had informed the new
doctor that Logan was a loser in her opinion. After Logan had stormed off,
even Dr. Hunter thought Logan was going crazy. Later, Logan had shown up
at Crimson and promised Lulu he would do whatever necessary to get her
back in his arms again. The next time Maxie saw Logan was after everyone
had left and she was alone in the office. He yelled at her and said his
failure with Lulu was Maxie's fault. He hit her and was possibly going to
rape her before he suddenly stopped and looked up at Johnny's apartment.
Maxie blacked out and when she woke up Johnny was standing over her. They
rushed over to Johnny's apartment and Lulu was standing over an already
dead Logan. Jason asked if Maxie had any marks on her from Logan's abuse,
but she had none. Spinelli asked Jason if he would be a little more
empathetic towards Maxie after her ordeal. Jason took his advice and made
sure Maxie was okay. He told them both to stay put in the penthouse while
he was gone. He was going to try to "fix things."
Johnny took Lulu hostage at the police station to keep her from
confessing. While Mac and Lucky looked on, Jason stopped Harper from
getting off a shot, which allowed Johnny to escape outside with Lulu. The
mayor was just arriving as Johnny and Lulu reached the outdoors, so Johnny
hijacked his car and the pair sped away. Inside the PCPD, Jason was
handcuffed and led into the interrogation room by Harper and Lucky. Harper
accused Jason of being in collusion with Johnny because he had prevented
Harper from shooting Johnny. Jason responded that he feared that Harper
would miss Johnny and hit Lulu. Neither Lucky nor Harper appeared to
believe him. Lucky questioned Jason about Johnny's whereabouts. When Jason
said he did not know, Lucky accused him of not caring about Lulu's safety.
Just then, Diane arrived and Lucky left her alone with Jason, who told
Diane that Lulu had killed Logan. He told Diane the truth, that he had
only pushed the detective to protect Lulu. Diane pointed out that even if
Jason were telling the truth, the police would say that helping Johnny was
an advantageous thing for him to do and would go a log way in bringing
peace to the mob. Jason wanted out, but an unsympathetic Diane said that
at a minimum, he had interfered with a police officer and would have to
spend at least one night in lockup. Jason got a visitor named Cody, who
had worked with him when Jason did community service at the hospital.
Diane was Cody's lawyer also. He dropped by with a tip for Jason about the
Russian mob and their representative, Karpov. Jason expressed his
appreciation and asked Cody to keep an eye on Karpov and let him know whom
Karpov was meeting. Cody agreed.
Nikolas came into the interrogation room and asked Jason for help. He knew
Jason had helped find Emily when Zander had kidnapped her, and he was
begging for Jason's help now that Nikolas' sister had been kidnapped.
Jason said he didn't have any information that could help. He thought Lulu
had brought the gun in, but Lulu was clearly terrified when she had left.
Jason didn't feel anything was planned. Ric also showed up to try
and talk to Jason, but Jason wanted nothing to do with Ric. He told Ric if
he wanted to help he needed to get out. Surprisingly, the PCPD
allowed Anthony to talk to Jason in the interrogation room. Anthony
threatened Jason to do whatever was necessary to get Johnny back. Anthony
left the room, and Claudia went in to beg Jason to allow Spinelli to
search for Johnny. Jason said Claudia didn't need Spinelli's help. Johnny
would soon call Claudia, and Jason needed to know when he called. Claudia
agreed to tell him anything, as long as he promised to help Johnny.
Diane had bad news for Jason. Because he had stopped Harper from firing
his gun, the cops believed that he, not Lulu, had smuggled in the gun to
Johnny, he would be charged as an accessory to any crimes Johnny committed
on the run. If Johnny killed a cop, then Jason could be facing a lethal
injection. Jason asked Diane to summarize the best-case scenario. She told
him that if she could convince a judge that he had acted to prevent the
killing of an innocent girl, then maybe she could get him out. Diane
wanted to get a warrant to see if Lulu had gotten the gun from Edward's
gun collection, but Jason said no. He told Diane that he owed it to
Spinelli and Carly to keep Lulu out of it. He said that if the police
realized that Lulu had helped Johnny, then she would be charged as an
accessory and be facing a lethal injection. Diane was not happy to work
within such limitations, but she told Jason that he was fortunate that he
paid her so much money because he made it extremely difficult to mount a
competent defense, before regally waltzing out the interrogation room.
Lucky went to the hospital to see Elizabeth. He told her of Nikolas'
suspicion that Lulu had helped Johnny escape. Elizabeth said that she
could believe that Lulu would do something like that. Lucky asked if Lulu
had contacted her. Elizabeth listened to her messages, but none of them
were from Lulu. Lucky told Elizabeth that he was very scared for Lulu's
safety, because her behavior at the police station was exactly like that
of his mom, Laura, just before she lost her mind.
Diane went back to see Jason. She was concerned that Sonny was cheating on
Kate with the blonde she had interrupted him with in the Metro Court bar.
She told Jason that Sonny acted just like he always did when he was trying
to hide something illicit from her. Diane said that Kate had given up
everything for Sonny and she did not want to see Sonny hurt Kate in any
way. Diane went on to tell him about Sonny's confrontation with Anthony.
Jason immediately ordered Diane to contact Max and upgrade Sonny's
security. Diane marveled at Jason's concern for others instead of himself
and wondered if Sonny would act the same should their situations be
reversed. When Jason did not reply, Diane did not mince words when she
said that ever since Michael had been shot, Sonny had been acting
erratically and she was sure that Jason had noticed also.
Sam and Lucky were in Sam's apartment, discussing Lulu's situation when
they were interrupted by a knock. It was Elizabeth. While Lucky hid, Sam
answered the door. Elizabeth told Sam that she had stopped by on a whim.
With Lulu on the run with Johnny, Elizabeth felt that Lucky needed Sam
back in his life. Sam was surprised when Elizabeth asked her to give Lucky
another chance. Elizabeth quickly explained that all she and Lucky shared
was parenthood, nothing more. Sam kept up appearances and told Elizabeth
that she was afraid of having her heart crushed again. Elizabeth
understood but assured Sam that Lucky would respect and cherish Sam's
heart. Before she left, Elizabeth asked Sam not to give up on Lucky. Once
she was gone, Lucky stepped back into the living room. Sam admitted that
she respected Elizabeth for her concern for Lucky.
At the Port Charles police station, Jason tried to calm Carly down. She
was determined to free Jason from jail so that he could track Lulu down.
Jason promised to tell Carly everything that he knew about Lulu's
situation in exchange for Carly's promise that she would go home and do
nothing. They argued back and forth until Carly reluctantly agreed to
Jason's terms. Carly was stunned to learn that Lulu had killed Logan and
that Johnny had covered it up. Carly was concerned for Lulu and wondered
if Logan had raped her. Carly was struck by the similarities between
Laura's past with Luke and Lulu's relationship with Logan.
Claudia went to see Jason at the Port Charles police station. Lucky
stopped her before she could enter the interrogation room where Jason was
being held. Lucky demanded to know if she had information about Johnny.
Claudia said that she didn't. She explained that she was there to seduce
Jason. Lucky appeared disgusted and walked away. Claudia entered into the
interrogation room and told Jason what she had told Lucky. When Jason
asked her why she would make such a claim, Claudia responded that she
didn't want Lucky to know that Johnny had contacted her. Maxie went to
visit Jason at the police station, much to Mac's horror. She told Jason
that Scott was holding her and Lulu responsible for Logan's death. Maxie
apologized for venting to him, but Jason said it was good for her to give
him all the details. She wondered how he could get Johnny and Lulu out of
their mess, but Jason admitted he wasn't sure what he could do. Later,
Claudia also came to visit Jason. She was desperate to get his help for
Johnny, but Jason wanted to make sure Claudia didn't make things worse for
Johnny and Lulu. Sonny was the last to visit Jason, with Diane suggesting
the two of them had business to talk about.
Sonny visited Jason at the police station. He was not happy and criticized
the way Jason was handling the business. When Jason asked if Sonny wanted
to take the business back, Sonny said no, but reiterated that he thought
Jason was losing control. Jason said that he had spent more than one night
in the lockup before without harming the business. He told Sonny that
Bernie was keeping him informed and he was on top of things. Even though
Jason said that the Zaccharas had been neutralized, Sonny continued to
express his worries about business rivals. Sonny vented his anger and
accused Jason of teaming up with Carly to take his children away because
Jason and Carly wanted revenge and blamed him for Michael's shooting.
Sonny told Jason that if he suffered half as many losses as Sonny had,
Jason would understand Sonny's pain. Before Jason could respond, Sonny
stormed out. Diane got a court order for Jason's release. Mac was not
pleased, but went away to process the order while Diane talked to Jason.
Jason wanted to know if Sonny had said anything about rivals other than
the Zaccharas at the meeting Diane had attended with Sonny earlier. Diane
claimed client confidentiality and remained mum.
In Claudia's apartment, Ric told Jason about Sonny dealing with Andre
Karpov. Jason didn't believe Ric and pointed out how common his lies had
been in the past. Before he stormed off, Jason warned Claudia to be
careful of whom she allowed into her apartment. After Jason was gone,
Claudia yelled at Ric for telling Jason about Sonny's business. Claudia
realized Ric was only trying to goad Jason because Ric had issues with his
brother. Ric tried to point out what a good deal it would be if Jason and
Sonny would kill each other. Claudia acted as if she still didn't care,
but she did agree to give Ric whatever he wanted if Johnny was returned
unharmed and acquitted of all charges.
Jason immediately went back to his penthouse where Spinelli was thrilled
to see him finally out of jail. Spinelli was put right to work, though, as
Jason needed absolute proof as to whether Sonny was dealing with Andre
Karpov or not. Spinelli could not find any information leading Karpov to
Port Charles, until they stumbled across proof that Sasha, Andre's lead
counsel, was staying at the Metro Court. Claudia knocked on the door, and
Jason asked Spinelli to leave them so they could discuss business. Claudia
knew Spinelli had been looking for proof about Sonny's possible business
dealings. She was there to save Jason time and trouble. She had been at
the restaurant when Karpov and Sonny first met. He basically blackmailed
her into not saying anything to Jason. If Jason was grateful for the
information, he didn't show any gratitude towards Claudia. Before Claudia
left, she warned Jason he would have to make a decision to be a friend to
Sonny or be a mob boss.
Jason paid Monica a visit in rehab. When he walked into her room, he
noticed that her suitcase was on the bed and opened. Monica explained that
she was about to be released. Jason was happy for her. He told her that he
had stopped by to see Monica because he wanted to let her know that he
wouldn't see much of her once she was back home. Monica realized that he
had made the decision to protect her from his lifestyle. Monica let Jason
know that he had other options, but Jason didn't want to discuss them.
Monica refused to give up. She told Jason that Sonny was not a loyal or
honorable man. Monica felt that Sonny didn't deserve Jason's loyalty.
Jason returned to his office where Spinelli was attending to a plant. When
Jason came in, Spinelli sensed that his friend was troubled. Jason told
Spinelli about his decision to stay away from Monica. Spinelli was
reluctant to share some troubling information that he had discovered, but
realized that he didn't have a choice. Jason was quiet as Spinelli told
him that he had found a money link between Karpov and Sonny. Spinelli
worried that Sonny had betrayed Jason.
Spinelli discovered another wire transfer from Andre Karpov to Sonny. When
Jason found out, he asked Diane how long she had known about Sonny's
involvement with Andre Karpov. Diane reminded Jason her relationships with
both men were strictly confidential. Now that he knew the truth, though,
Diane admitted she begged Sonny to tell Jason the truth. Sonny felt
everything he was doing was in Jason's best interest.
At the clinic, Liz came in to speak with Nikolas, so Nadine gave them some
privacy. Liz and Nikolas didn't realize Lucky and Sam were in a nearby
exam room and were able to hear their conversation. Liz told Nikolas she
was worried about Lucky. She knew both Nikolas and Lucky were worried
about finding Lulu, but Lucky was at the police station all day long
listening to Scott Baldwin throwing out accusations against Lulu. Liz
realized Lucky would not vent his frustrations to Nikolas, but Liz felt
Sam was the best person for Lucky during the stress of Lulu's kidnapping.
Although Liz didn't trust Sam, she knew the other woman was good for
Lucky. Both Lucky and Sam were surprised to hear Liz's confession. Later,
Liz and her boys prepared a picnic for Lucky.
Jason approached them in the park and Liz offered Jake for Jason to hold.
Jason refused the chance to hold his child. Monica saw them and commented
what a perfect picture they all made together. Jason quickly left but not
before Monica noticed the way he looked at Liz. Monica told Liz she had
always envied Audrey for having two great-grandchildren. Monica and Alan
had hoped for the best for Michael, but realized she would never see him
grow up. Liz apologized for Monica's loss and the older woman soon left.
When Lucky showed up to the picnic, he was surprised at the nice gesture
from Liz. He told her she didn't need to worry about him, but she said she
just wanted him to have some time with the boys. Lucky realized he was a
lucky man to have such a wonderful family.
#12B At Sonny's place, Kate and Sonny found Jason waiting to have a chat
with Sonny. Jason ignored Kate's polite request that he call first and
told Sonny that they needed to talk. After Kate left to run errands, Jason
wanted to know about Sonny and Karpov. Sonny told Jason that his motives
were pure and that his only intent was to protect Jason. Jason said that
Sonny was kidding himself and that what Sonny really wanted was to get
back in the business. Jason offered to give the business back to Sonny,
but Sonny insisted that he did not want the business because he had
promised to go straight. Jason said that he did not need Sonny's help, and
that he was disappointed that Sonny had not told him from the very first
that Karpov had approached him. When Jason left, it was apparent that he
felt betrayed by Sonny and that Sonny was hurt because Jason did not trust
him.
In his office, Jason met with Cody, who gave him proof that Karpov was
meeting with Sonny. When Jason asked why Cody was taking risks to get
photos of Karpov, Cody said it was not for money, but to see if he could
still do the recon work that he had done in the Army. Jason was
suspicious, but Cody said that he was off drugs and in a 12-step program.
He said that he cared more about the work than money. Jason hired Cody to
be Bernie's driver and bodyguard. Jason called Carly to his office and
told her that Sonny was working with Karpov.
Jason invited Carly to his office to discuss the situation with Sonny and
Karpov. Carly was stunned to learn that Sonny was in cahoots with Jason's
enemy. Initially, Carly suggested that Sonny might be keeping his business
dealings strictly out of town but Jason dispelled that notion rather
quickly. Carly grew angry, as she began to suspect Sonny of aligning
himself with Karpov for nefarious reasons. She reminded Jason that he was
the head of the organization in Port Charles and that he needed to treat
Sonny like any other enemy who had threatened his position. Jason reminded
Carly that Jason dealt with people like that by killing them. He asked
Carly if she was telling Jason to kill Sonny. Carly backed down and came
up with another method of dealing with Sonny. Carly felt that the way to
convince Sonny to sever his ties with Karpov would be for Jason to
threaten to expose the connection to Kate. Jason refused to resort to
blackmailing Sonny and warned Carly to say nothing. Jason asked Diane to
arrange a meeting between Jason and Karpov. Diane made quick work of it
and the meeting took place a short time later, in Jason's office. Jason
warned Karpov that if Karpov made a hostile move, Jason would take action.
Karpov showed that he wasn't a man easily intimidated.
Jason was in his office with Spinelli when Ric dropped by for a visit. He
had a strategy for defending Johnny, and wanted Jason to locate Johnny and
Lulu and encourage them to turn themselves in. Jason wanted to know why
Ric would think that he cared. Ric pointed out that Anthony would become
crazed if anything happened to Johnny and that would affect Jason's
business and the balance of power in the area. Spinelli left the duo alone
and Ric could not resist mentioning Sonny's betrayal to Jason. Jason
wondered at Ric's motives and asked if Ric's intent was to have Jason kill
Sonny.
Maxie went to the nurses' station looking for Matt. Elizabeth told her
that Matt was in surgery. Maxie was horrified to think that anyone would
let Matt operate. Elizabeth was amused, but when Maxie tried to leave a
bill for Matt that charged him for food and shampoo, Elizabeth would not
get involved. Maxie tried to accuse Elizabeth of holding a grudge, but
Elizabeth told her that doing personal chores for the doctor was not in
her job description. As she was departing the floor, Maxie was sincere
when she told Elizabeth that she was worried about Lulu's safety.
Carly went to Jason's office to tell him about her conversation with
Anthony. He told her not to help him by spying on people. She said that
her spying had already paid off. She had been nice to Anthony and he had
confided in her. She told Jason that Anthony knew about Laura and feared
that history would repeat itself, that Lulu would crack under pressure and
Johnny would get killed. Jason said things were stable at the moment
because not even the cops had a clue to where Johnny and Lulu were hiding.
Carly sensed something else was wrong and finally got Jason to admit that
his worry was that if something bad happened to Johnny, Anthony would go
berserk and Karpov would have the opening he needed to invade the Port
Charles crime scene. Carly could not resist adding, "with Sonny's
help." Jason told her that he did not want to further exacerbate the
bitterness between Carly and Sonny. He told Carly that he was holding her
to her promise not to talk to Sonny about Karpov. Carly met with Karpov on
the terrace of the Metro Court. He was intent on seduction, but Carly
remained mum when he invited her on a car ride where they could be alone
with each other.
Spinelli went back to Jason's office. He said that he had a way to track
Karpov through his spending habits. Jason said that even though he did not
understand what Spinelli was saying, all he cared about was the
information. Spinelli was agitated and Jason finally got him to admit that
he had told Maxie about Karpov. Jason was not happy, especially since
Maxie was the police commissioner's daughter. He feared a slip of Maxie's
lip would bring the law down on all of them, or worse, get Maxie hurt or
killed. Spinelli said that he was trying to keep his distance, but before
he could say more, Spinelli's computer beeped. The information on it
indicated that Karpov's last two lovers had met with fatal accidents, one
of which was a fall from a tenth floor balcony.
Spinelli sat in Jason's office and looked for information on Karpov's
girlfriends. He discovered two of them had died suspiciously. Spinelli
told Jason they needed to give Sonny the information. Jason wanted to
wait, and Spinelli said he thought they should have a stakeout at one of
the warehouses. Spinelli started going on about snacks at their stakeout
until Jason stopped him. Maxie rushed in and immediately promised to keep
her mouth shut about their mob business. Jason was upset at how much
information Spinelli had slipped to Maxie, but Maxie assured him their
secrets were safe. They were interrupted when one of Carly's employees at
the Metro Court knocked on the door. Since Jax was out of town, he didn't
know who to turn to. Carly had left the hotel with Andre Karpov. Spinelli
instantly set to work and used the GPS from Karpov's car to locate him. He
was at the same warehouse Spinelli had mentioned having the stakeout at,
Jason rushed out the door. He arrived at the warehouse with a gun on
Karpov just before Karpov could kiss Carly. He warned Andre that Carly was
under his protection. It would be his last warning. If anyone in Karpov's
organization touched Carly, Andre would die. Karpov said he meant no harm,
and left. Jason and Carly started yelling at each other, and Jason asked
what she was doing with Karpov. Carly showed him what she had been doing
when she pulled out Andre's PDA.
Jason was furious that Carly had put herself in danger just to get
Karpov's PDA. They argued over her safety and wanting to help until Jason
finally had enough and grabbed her arm to leave. They argued the entire
way back to Jason's office where Maxie was trying to pump up Spinelli's
self-esteem. She had reminded him what a good friend he was, which meant
more than brawn. Jason needed Spinelli to get to work, so he told Maxie to
leave. Maxie wasn't about to leave if Carly was staying. Carly said she
was more important to Jason than Maxie was to Spinelli. She would lead by
example, though, and leave. Maxie was disappointed Carly gave up so
quickly. She told Jason to make sure Spinelli didn't get hurt, and she
left. Jason put Spinelli to work looking up any and all information from
Karpov's PDA. Very quickly, Spinelli found information about Pier 52.
Suddenly, Jason realized Carly had left to go to Pier 52. Carly noticed
some suspicious-looking crates down at the piers. She picked up a crowbar
to start to pry open one of the crates when Jason walked up behind her and
grabbed her, scaring her. He told her she shouldn't be there; she could
get killed. Suddenly Claudia walked up behind them and saw a glint in the
distance. She yelled out "gun" and the three of them ducked.
Jerry was up in a corner loft shooting at them.
Elizabeth and Nikolas talked about Lulu's predicament. Then, after Nikolas
told her about his encounter with Nadine, Elizabeth encouraged Nikolas to
consider letting love into his life again. She told him that Emily would
want him to be happy. Nikolas smiled and told Elizabeth how glad he was
that she had been Emily's friend, and his. They shared a hug and a tender
kiss. Nadine saw them through the door and jumped to the wrong conclusion.
Jason, Claudia, and Carly were on the docks and under fire from Jerry.
They hid behind some packing crates near the alley. Both Jason and Claudia
pulled guns. While Carly and Claudia sniped at each other, Jason decided
to make a run for it. He provided cover fire while Carly and Claudia
scrambled for the alley. When fire was not returned, Jason searched the
area and found a spent rifle cartridge. Carly and Claudia joined him.
Carly accused Claudia of setting up the hit but Claudia retorted that it
was more likely Karpov. Jason wanted both of them to be quiet. Claudia
told Jason that he could believe her or not, but the only reason she was
down there was because Johnny and Lulu had abandoned the mayor's car in
the area and she was looking for clues. Claudia said all she was concerned
about was finding her brother. Then she flounced away. After she left,
both Jason and Carly agreed that they were inclined to believe her. Jason
and Carly went back to Jason's office, but not before Jason told Carly
that she was taking too many chances and he wanted her to stay safe. They
were still arguing when they arrived at the office to find Maxie and
Spinelli having a similar argument.
Spinelli told Carly and Jason about his adventure with Maxie and Karpov's
thugs in the warehouse. Carly told them about the shooting in the alley
and said that they had to have a plan to back Jason up. Maxie agreed.
Jason was stern when he told Carly to stay away from Karpov or he would
send her to Sonny's island under guard. The he asked her nicely to leave.
Because he had asked nicely, Carly complied. Maxie tried to stay behind,
but Jason insisted that she leave also. Maxie did, but not before
imploring Jason to keep Spinelli safe. After Maxie was gone, Spinelli
vented and told Jason that he was determined to show his mettle and
"man up" because Maxie was always rushing to his rescue and he
wanted to prove that he could save her.
Jerry met with Karpov on the docks. Karpov said that his men had heard
shots fired. Jerry told him that he'd had an opportunity to kill Jason and
had used it. When Karpov asked if he had succeeded, Jerry told him that
Jason was a very hard man to kill, then wondered if he was losing his
touch. Karpov said that he was staying in Port Charles, but he could not
afford a mob war. He told Jerry that meant that Jason had to be dealt
with. Using his computer, Spinelli determined that the shell casing that
Jason had found in the alley was Russian made. This led to the conclusion
that Karpov had arranged the attempted hit. Jason was reluctant to take
action until more proof was available about Karpov's intentions. Spinelli
wanted to stake out Karpov's warehouse with Jason.
Cody talked to Jason about the shipment from the previous night. Cody had
witnessed Sonny at the docks overseeing the shipment of drugs. Spinelli
walked in with chips and binoculars for the stakeout he thought they would
be having. Jason dismissed Cody after asking him to keep an eye on Karpov.
After Cody was gone, Jason told Spinelli they would not be doing a
stakeout. Jason needed to make sure he had all the facts before he waged
an expensive and bloody war with the Russian mob. Spinelli begged for a
chance to show he wasn't just a computer geek. Diane walked in and asked
if there was anything she could do for Jason for which she could bill him
$500 an hour. Spinelli got up and said he knew his cue to leave. Jason
stopped him and told Diane she would have to come back another time. He
and Spinelli had work to do. Spinelli grabbed his bag of stakeout supplies
with a goofy grin on his face. Spinelli and Jason found a secluded area to
park the car so they could watch the entrance to Karpov's suspected
warehouse. Spinelli was excited just to mark items off his list of
"Things to do on a Stakeout." Soon, the heat in the closed car
proved to be too much for Spinelli. Just as Jason saw Karpov and the
harbor manager walking into the warehouse, Spinelli freaked out when he
thought that Karpov's thugs has spotted them. He fainted and his head hit
the steering wheel and sounded the horn. When he came to, he became
nauseous and started babbling. As Spinelli became increasingly
disoriented, Jason got worried, so he abandoned the stakeout and took
Spinelli to the hospital.
At the nurses' station, Kelly and Elizabeth were talking about Robin and
Patrick when Maxie rushed in and wanted to know what sex the baby would
be. Kelly told her to paint the nursery pink. Maxie noticed that Matt was
eavesdropping and confronted him. Maxie continued her attempts to get Matt
out of the Scorpio abode by making her dislike of him obvious. She even
accused him of "liking" her and told him he had no chance. Jason
arrived with a woozy Spinelli. Matt examined him while Maxie gushed over
him. Matt thought Spinelli was delirious when he babbled on about failing
in his quest to stop the evildoers. Maxie was immediately indignant on
Spinelli's behalf, claiming that he always sounded like that. Jason said
that he thought Spinelli was dehydrated from the heat of the car. Matt and
Elizabeth wheeled Spinelli to a room. Maxie stayed behind and blamed Jason
for not taking better care of Spinelli. She did not let Jason get a word
in and when Elizabeth returned with good news, Maxie rushed off to
Spinelli's room and told Jason he could wait to see Spinelli until she had
finished her visit. Elizabeth and Jason shared a momentary smile.
At the hospital, Robin and Jason spent a few minutes talking about Robin's
pregnancy and then the past. While they visited, Robin felt the baby kick
and invited Jason to touch her tummy while the baby continued to move.
Robin tells him that he is the reason she is where she is now, that living
with him and Michael and seeing what being a family is like made a
difference for her. Jason ruefully says if he had told the truth about
Micael's paternity that he wouldn't be where he is now. Nearby, at the
nurse's station, Elizabeth watched them. When Jason looked up, his eyes
met with Elizabeth's and held in a quiet moment, a sort of sadness of them
not being able to publicly enjoy having a child together like Robin and
Patrick. The moment passed and Elizabeth was soon distracted by the
arrival of Lucky and the boys. Lucky brought the kids by to visit with
Elizabeth before their aunt Bobbie picked them up for a sleepover. When
Elizabeth glanced up, she noticed Jason watching them with a certain
longing and sadness.
Sonny invited Jason to his house to let Jason know about the incident in
the park with Anthony and Kristina. Jason already knew about it because
Kristina's bodyguard had phoned in a report. Sonny wanted Jason to know
what he intended to do about the Zacchara's. Jason was noncommittal, but
pointed out that Sonny didn't have any right to make demands given his
recent dealings with Karpov. The tension was thick between the two men.
Sonny felt that Jason was in over his head. Sonny warned him that Jason
couldn't continue to stand by and do nothing for much longer.
Jason was standing on the docks when Elizabeth walked up. Elizabeth said
that she had told herself that if she found him there, then she was meant
to find him. Elizabeth went on to tell Jason that she had seen his
expression when he felt Robin's baby kick and later, when he saw Jake.
Elizabeth could see how much Jason missed Jake. Elizabeth said that she
couldn't undo all of the choices that were made but she wanted Jason to
know that she loved him and was there for him. Liz begged Jason to confide
in her. She knew he was upset and had no one to talk to. Jason confessed
how he had taken over the business after asking Sonny to give up parental
rights to Michael and Morgan. Sonny regretted that decision and held Jason
responsible. Jason couldn't believe Sonny had turned against him, though.
It was less than two months after Sonny retired when he made a deal with
the enemy. They talked about Jason's decision to stay away from Jake and
how it killed him not to be with Jake and Liz. It was the best decision
for them, though. Liz told Jason that he needed to make things right with
Sonny.
Jason came to talk to Sonny. He wanted to make sure there were no
misunderstandings. As they talked, Kate walked in. She was upset to see
Sonny and Jason together and demanded to know if Sonny was taking over the
business. Kate wanted to know if Sonny was going back to the mob. Sonny
said no, that he was out of the business. Jason did not confirm or deny
Sonny's words. He merely told Sonny that he had said all he had to say and
would not be back.
At the hospital, Anthony approached Elizabeth and inquired about her
relationship to Ric and Jason. She picked up on his subtle threats and
responded with her own threat to tell Lucky. Anthony scoffed at the
effectiveness of anyone in the Port Charles Police Department, but
Elizabeth refused to be engaged further, and sent him off to his
appointment with a physical therapist. After Sam was shot and refused to
go to the hospital because she did not want to answer questions about a
gunshot wound and blow her cover. Lucky called Elizabeth instead and she
rushed over to Sam's. When Elizabeth arrived at Sam's, she figured out
that Sam and Lucky's breakup had been a ruse. They apologized for keeping
her in the dark and explained that they were trying to find the
counterfeit drug ring. Elizabeth applauded their efforts. She stitched up
Sam's wound, but told her that she might need additional antibiotics.
While Elizabeth got rid of the bloody bandages, Lucky tried again to get
Sam to give up her undercover work, but she refused. As they kissed,
Elizabeth returned to the room and saw them.
Sam was grateful to Liz for helping her so she wouldn't have to go to the
hospital after being shot. Liz asked what the status was of the
counterfeit drug ring, and Lucky said it was over. Sam was upset and
thought her bullet wound would give Karpov more faith in her. Liz offered
some relationship advice and told them both to respect each other's
decisions and not be so stubborn. She knew they cared about each other and
wanted them to be together. Lucky asked Liz to stay with Sam for a while
so she would make sure Sam didn't leave right after Lucky did. Sam thought
he wasn't giving in, but he continued and said he didn't want her back
with Karpov until she was fully healed. After Lucky left, Sam thanked Liz
again for her advice and her medical expertise. Liz told Sam not to give
up on Lucky, because he wouldn't let her down.
Bernie came to see Jason and noticed how upset he was. Jason explained how
he had the perfect shot at Karpov when a little girl went running into
Karpov's arms. It was identical to the time when Michael was shot. Jason
and Karpov decided to let things be for the moment, but Bernie didn't
think that was such a good idea. Bernie did his own investigation on
Karpov. The mobster has a history of moving in and telling the locals he
was not a threat. Once he established himself, Karpov took out the
competition. Bernie felt Karpov was vulnerable at that moment and should
be taken out immediately. Jason asked if Bernie was telling this to Jason
because it was something Sonny would have done if he was still running the
business. Bernie knew how Sonny had run things, but he still felt not
making a move on Karpov was a bad business decision.
Cody came to visit Jason after Bernie left, and Jason needed his help in
his area of expertise. Before Jason could give him an assignment, though,
Sasha knocked on the door. Jason excused Cody, and Sasha came in. She told
Jason that Karpov wanted to make sure Jason knew he was not trying to
interfere with Jason's business or territory. Jason questioned why Karpov
was trying so hard, but Sasha said Karpov was just trying to cover all
bases after his deal with Sonny fell through. Jason took a brief phone
call and when he hung up, Sasha handed him a drink. She took her blouse
off in an attempt to seduce Jason and told him sometimes she acted on
behalf of her own interests and not Karpov's.
Jason was not impressed. He picked up her clothes and told her to leave.
Spinelli came home before she was fully dressed and got the wrong
impression. After Sasha left, Spinelli ranted at Jason about the perils of
getting involved with Sasha. Jason finally interrupted Spinelli to deny
that he had slept with Sasha, but Spinelli did not believe him and
continued to point out all the reasons that sleeping with the enemy was a
bad idea. Jason stayed mum and tried to get Spinelli to focus on cracking
the code to Karpov's PDA, but Spinelli could not get his mind off the idea
that Jason was doing the naughty with Sasha out of grief over giving up
Elizabeth. A disgusted Jason left for a meeting and told Spinelli to get
to work. Spinelli told Maxie that he was researching Sasha and wanted her
help to show it to Jason. When she did not understand, he told her that he
thought Jason was sleeping with Sasha. When Jason got home, she asked
Jason if he was sleeping with Karpov's lawyer. Jason asked how many times
he had to say he was not sleeping with Sasha. Maxie then told Spinelli
that Jason was many things, but a liar was not one of them. She said that
she believed Jason when he said that he had not done the naughty with
Sasha. When Jason told Spinelli to listen to Maxie, Maxie told Jason to
cut Spinelli some slack because he was a really good friend to Jason. She
told a disgruntled Jason to have some patience.
Spinelli continued to insist that Jason and Sasha were lovers. Jason was
frustrated and told Spinelli and Maxie that his private life was not up
for discussion. Maxie tried to help Jason understand that Spinelli's
concern stemmed from friendship and respect. Maxie felt that Jason should
at least listen to Spinelli, even if Spinelli was wrong about his
assumption. Jason turned to Spinelli and told him that he appreciated
Spinelli's concern. Jason acknowledged that he was under tremendous
pressure and had quite a bit on his mind, however, Jason was not sleeping
with Sasha. Spinelli was not swayed. After Jason left to check on Lulu,
Spinelli told Maxie that Jason had protested a tad too much. Spinelli
remained convinced that Jason was involved with Sasha. Before Maxie could
talk him out of it, Spinelli decided to go on a stakeout. Spinelli was
determined to gather proof of Sasha's nefarious ways. Spinelli hoped that
it would motivate Jason to break things off with Karpov's attorney.
Jason stopped by to check on Lulu, she was weepy and listless. Jason
realized that she was not doing well and asked Lulu how he could help her.
Lulu asked him if he believed Johnny was the reason that she was in
Shadybrook. Jason told her no; Johnny was trying to protect Lulu. Lulu was
grateful and asked Jason if he would help her spend some time with Johnny.
Elizabeth stopped by Wyndemere. Nikolas thanked Elizabeth for taking the
time to visit with Lulu the previous day. As they sat down to chat,
Nikolas confided that he had gone to see Laura. Elizabeth seemed to sense
that Nikolas had conflicted feelings for Nadine because of his love for
Emily. She suggested that Nikolas keep an open mind. Nadine might not be
the one, but she could be a possibility. At the hospital, Elizabeth and
Nadine talked about Nikolas. Nadine vowed that she was through putting
herself on the line for Nikolas only to be hurt when he rejected her.
Nearby, Layla answered an incoming phone call. It was Nikolas, asking to
speak to Nadine. Nadine took the call and was surprised when Nikolas
invited her to Wyndemere. Nadine accepted and hung up the phone. Elizabeth
and Layla smiled and engaged in some good-natured teasing. Nadine
downplayed the phone call and told them that he probably just wanted to
make it clear that he wasn't interested in her.
While Robin was in an exam room with a patient, Patrick's voice came over
the P.A. system. Robin was speechless as Patrick began talking about how
much he loved Robin and their baby. As she made her way to Patrick at the
nurse's station, Patrick listed all the reasons that he thought Robin was
a special and unique person. When he saw Robin, Patrick put the phone down
and walked up to her. In front of Liz, Nadine, Epiphany, Mac, and
Anna, a misty-eyed Patrick got down on one knee and asked Robin if she
would marry him. He told her he knew they wouldn't always get along, but
they would always have respect for each other. Robin had made him want to
commit to someone, and Patrick was ready to commit to her and their
family. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and their baby.
Robin was clearly touched by Patrick's words, but a crowd had gathered. As
everyone watched, Robin said it was a beautiful thought but she was too
crowded. A very hurt Patrick sat down on the floor while Robin got on the
elevator.
Spinelli and Maxie sat in their car on a stakeout. Maxie thought she
saw someone going into Karpov's warehouse with a gun. Maxie wanted to call
the police. Spinelli started to get out of the car and told Maxie he
needed to investigate further. She went after him and suddenly they saw
bright lights. A car was headed straight for them. Spinelli pushed Maxie
out of its path, but did not get out of the way in time. He was hit and
thrown several feet. Later at GH, When Matt went to Spinelli's room to
tell him the results of his tests, Maxie, Nadine, Leyla, and Elizabeth
were also there. Matt told Spinelli that his spleen was damaged and had to
be removed immediately. Maxie asked for Elizabeth's opinion and she said
that Matt was right; delay could be dangerous for Spinelli. Elizabeth told
Maxie that she believed that Matt was a good surgeon and could handle
Spinelli's case. When it came time for a decision, Spinelli told Maxie to
make it because he trusted
her with his life.
Jason said he was just doing a favor. He watched as Lucky stormed in and
headed towards the interrogation room. Jason stopped him and said he was
just trying to help Lulu. Lucky wasn't interested and told Jason to back
off or he would have Jason arrested for impersonating Lulu's brother.
Before Jason left, he asked Lucky to listen to Lulu. She might be sick,
but she needed people to listen to her and understand what she needed.
Jason pretended to be Lulu's brother so he could sign her out of Shady
Brook. She wanted to see Johnny, so he took her to the Port Charles police
station. Lucky did not want her there, but Lulu insisted that she had to
see Johnny. Lucky reluctantly agreed.
Robin returned to the hospital and found Elizabeth in the break room. She
tried to commiserate with Elizabeth, but Elizabeth did not share Robin's
pessimism about marriage. Elizabeth said that if Robin had the chance to
make a lifetime commitment to the man she loved, then Robin should take
it. Elizabeth went back to work and Robin was left speechless. Later at
the nurses' station, Epiphany, Kelly, and Dr. Winters asked Elizabeth
questions about Robin, who soon emerged from the break room and realized
that the women at the desk were talking about her. When Patrick came by
and asked to speak with her, she assumed that it was another proposal, so
she told everyone in the area that she did not want to get married.
Patrick said it was not a proposal, but a consultation.
Robin found Patrick, Elizabeth, Lainey, Epiphany, and Kelly huddled
together at the nurse's station. She mistakenly believed that her friends
and Patrick were conspiring against her. Robin told all of them that she
appreciated their efforts and understood that they had her best interest
at heart but she had no intention of getting married. Kelly pulled Robin
aside and gently informed her that she was wrong; they weren't talking
about Robin or Patrick's proposal. Robin was embarrassed, and apologized.
Later, Robin used the P.A. system to make an announcement. Patrick slowly
walked up to the nurse's station while Robin talked about how wonderful
and understanding Patrick was. While everyone looked on, Robin professed
her love for Patrick but told him, once again, that she couldn't marry
him.
In his hospital room, Spinelli called Jason to let him know about the
hit-and-run. While he was leaving the message, Jason walked in. Spinelli
explained that he and Maxie had been on a stakeout and he was hit by a
car. They had seen the car barreling towards them and Spinelli pushed
Maxie out of harm's way. Jason was disturbed to learn about the
unauthorized stakeout but he was more concerned about finding out who had
hit Spinelli. Although he had not seen the driver, Spinelli was certain it
was Sasha. She had been to see Spinelli in the hospital and Leyla had come
in and made her leave. Lovely Leyla walked in just at that moment and
confirmed that she had made the woman leave because Spinelli was too sick
to have visitors. After Jason left, Liz came in with a cactus for
Spinelli. Another patient had been discharged and asked Liz to give it to
someone special. Spinelli thought the cactus was for him because both he
and cacti were prickly. Liz corrected him and said they were both unique
and interesting. Spinelli asked to speak with Liz privately. When she
closed his door, he told her he was concerned about Jason's relationship
with Sasha. Spinelli thought Jason was getting involved with Sasha in
order to get information, and Liz was the only one who could save him.
Jason met Liz as she was arriving at her studio. He had received a call to
meet her there and was worried something was wrong with Jake. Liz assured
him everything was fine with their son. She asked if he was having an
affair with Sasha and explained Spinelli's worries. Jason said Spinelli
was worried for nothing, because there was nothing going on between Jason
and Sasha. Liz hadn't thought there was anything going on between them,
but a part of her was jealous. Liz wanted to be with Jason and she was
tired of not being able to feel, of walking through her life like a ghost.
She had stopped allowing herself to feel because she didn't want to hurt
since she couldn't be with him. Jason reminded her they had made the
decision to keep Jake and Cameron safe, but Liz said people have affairs
and kept it quiet all the time. She asked if he had changed his mind and
didn't want to be with her anymore. Liz told him he could leave and she
wouldn't try to keep him there. Jason didn't say anything but he didn't
leave. They rushed to each other and kissed. Jason pulled away and told
Liz he couldn't be with her. It was too dangerous. They had tried to be
together before in the safe house but decided they couldn't risk it. Jason
didn't want to try again with Liz just to have the same outcome. It was
too painful. Liz asked if Jason still loved her. She thought he might just
be trying to get rid of her, like he had done with Jake. Jason said there
was nothing more he wanted than to be with her. Before he walked away, he
told her that he did love her, leaving her with tears streaming down her
face.
Jason went to see Spinelli at the hospital. When Elizabeth came in to take
his vitals, Spinelli noticed the tension between Elizabeth and Jason. He
asked if his phone call to Elizabeth was responsible. Elizabeth told him
to channel all the energy he was wasting on her into his own recovery, and
then left Jason and Spinelli alone. After she left, Jason said that
Spinelli had an amazing imagination, but sometimes it took him to crazy
places that just were not true, as was the case with Spinelli's ridiculous
belief that Jason and Sasha were having an affair. Jason was firm with
Spinelli when he told him that when Spinelli told Elizabeth his concerns
about Jason and Sasha, it had hurt Elizabeth as much as if it had been
true. Before the conversation went further, Maxie rushed in to tell Jason
and Spinelli that she had been subpoenaed to testify at Johnny's trial.
She worried that even though she was good at prevarication one-on-one, she
got very nervous in a crowd and feared that she would blurt out the whole
truth and spend the rest of her days in jail for perjury, noting that she
did not look good in orange. Maxie feared that she would start talking
before her brain was engaged and Scott would catch her in a lie.
Spinelli immediately assured her that she was under Jason's protection.
Maxie was thrilled to get a nod from Jason and started making plans to get
a new identity and run away from Port Charles. Jason told her that running
was not the answer, nor was breaking Scott's kneecaps, as she had
suggested, because Scott would know that they had something to hide. Jason
told Maxie that she was good at thinking on her feet and that she did not
have to lie. All she had to do was keep telling the same version of the
truth that she had been telling all along. Maxie took it as a compliment
that Jason had faith in her. After Jason left to go back to his office,
Spinelli supported Jason's advise to Maxie, who agreed that she would do
her best to keep Scott from learning the truth-that Lulu had killed Logan.
Carly went to see Jason. She told him about the house that she and Jax
would build and how much she loved Jax. He expressed happiness for her.
She thanked him for helping her stay sane during the time that Jax had
left home to ponder their marriage. Jason said all that he did was keep
her from doing something dangerous, like playing detective with Karpov.
Carly acknowledged that she might have been in trouble there, but she said
the alternative was running back to Sonny and they both knew how badly
that could turn out. Carly expressed relief that she had never had to tell
Jax that she and Sonny had sex on the limo ride back after taking Michael
to the extended care facility. She believed that since she and Jax had
reconciled, she would never have to tell what happened, and the lie would
stay buried.
Carly helped Jason put away groceries while she updated him on her recent
reconciliation with Jax. Carly looked forward to the future and told Jason
that she wished Sonny well with Kate. Jason was a little surprised by
that. Carly admitted she despised Kate but was satisfied knowing that Jax
saw what a liar Kate really was. As far as Carly was concerned, Kate no
longer mattered. At GH, Elizabeth wheeled Spinelli to the elevator as she
prepared to discharge him. Maxie was griping because Jason had not arrived
to pick them up. When the "Slavic seductress" was mentioned,
Elizabeth couldn't hide her irritation. Maxie snapped at Elizabeth and
accused Elizabeth of being petty and jealous. Elizabeth ignored Maxie's
taunts and urged Spinelli to get some rest when he arrived home. Jason
walked up moments later, unaware of the root of the tension between
Elizabeth and Maxie. To Maxie's annoyance, Jason wheeled Spinelli into the
elevator and left without her.
Jason and Spinelli returned to the penthouse. Jason helped Spinelli get
settled in and then sat down to have a heart-to-heart talk with his
friend. Jason made it clear that he did not want Spinelli endangering his
life in order to prove something to Jason. Spinelli tried to defend his
actions, explaining that he wanted to be like Jason. Jason asked him what
part of his life appealed to Spinelli. Was it the crimes that Jason had
committed or the jail time he had served? Was Spinelli impressed by the
number of people that Jason had hurt and pushed away because of his
choices, or the fact that Jason made a living intimidating and threatening
people? Spinelli seemed at a loss for words. Jason told him that Spinelli
was a far better person than Jason. Spinelli didn't agree with Jason's
assessment of himself. Jason pointed out that he had lost much over the
past year, including Michael and Sonny. Jason didn't want to add Spinelli
to that list. They were interrupted by a knock at the door. Jason was not
happy to discover Maxie standing on his doorstep with suitcases in tow.
Maxie intended to move in so that she could nurse Spinelli back to health.
Spinelli appeared delighted by the news.
Mac knocked on Jason's door, and Jason let him in. Mac wanted to ask
Spinelli some more questions about the hit-and-run. Maxie came downstairs,
wearing nothing but a towel. She was looking for a loofah. Mac was in a
state of shock to see his daughter half-naked in two criminals' apartment.
He insisted she come home with him, but Maxie wanted to make sure Spinelli
was cared for, especially since she felt responsible for Spinelli's
injuries. Mac reminded her that if Spinelli had not dragged her out to the
"stakeout," Maxie and Spinelli would have never been in danger.
Spinelli rang his bell to interrupt Maxie and Mac fighting to offer his
loofah to Maxie. She quickly ran upstairs, and Mac left in a huff.
Spinelli realized Maxie was paying the price for being his friend.
Robin went to Jason and Spinelli's apartment where Spinelli begged Robin
to have mercy on him and let Maxie stay. Robin said she would work
something out. Maxie tried explaining she was just trying to do something
unselfish with her life. She knew what it was like to recover from
surgery, and Spinelli had no one. Robin asked Jason's opinion, and Jason
said it would have been better if Maxie had never met Spinelli. However,
Spinelli wanted Maxie there, so he guessed it was all right. Robin thought
things would be fine, also, and she promised to explain things to Mac.
Robin's uncle was under a lot of stress, because Robin's due date was
coming up. Jason congratulated her on the baby, and Robin asked if he knew
about Patrick's blog. Jason had no idea what a blog was. Robin briefly
ranted about how her little girl would be better off with two parents who
were happy apart than living with two parents who were bitterly fighting
and inevitably divorcing. Robin said she wasn't being a pessimist-she was
only being a realist. Jason was suddenly sorry he brought anything up.
When Robin realized Jason was truly clueless about Patrick's blogs, she
decided it was time to leave. At the hospital, Robin started having
contractions. Elizabeth and Patrick got Robin settled in a wheelchair.
After Jason and Robin were gone, Sasha arrived looking for Jason. Spinelli
was disturbed that Sasha and Jason were on a first name basis. Maxie told
Sasha she needed to leave. Maxie said Jason would retaliate if anything
happened to Spinelli. Jason walked into his penthouse to find Maxie
embroiled in an escalating battle of words with Karpov's lawyer, Sasha.
Spinelli looked on from the couch. Before Jason could say anything, Sasha
told him that "his associate," indicating Maxie, had made
threats that could start a mob war. Spinelli tried to defend Maxie, and
Maxie wanted to know if one of Karpov's cars was responsible for
Spinelli's accident. Jason ordered them all to be quiet. He told Sasha
that Maxie did not speak for him. He told Sasha that he had an agreement
with Karpov and that he would not hurt any of Karpov's men as long as
Karpov did not hurt any of his. Sasha assured Jason that none of Karpov's
people had hurt Spinelli. Jason seemed to accept that. When Sasha tried to
get friendlier, Jason coldly showed her the door. While Maxie was fussing
over Spinelli, Jason got a phone call from someone whom he told that he
would "handle it himself." He immediately bundled Spinelli up
and sent him to bed for a nap.
Spinelli was dozing when a news bulletin announced that two men with
Russian passports had been found in an alley, badly beaten. Maxie had a
speculative look in her eyes. Maxie waited up for Jason, who did not turn
on the lights as he put his gun away on the top shelf of the closet. Maxie
crept down the stairs and saw him leave the closet and head to the
kitchen. As he passed, by he flexed the knuckles of his right hand as
though they were injured. Maxie tiptoed to the closet and was stretching
to reach the box when Jason stopped her. Jason asks Maxie why she was
looking through the closet. Maxie says that she came down to get Spinelli
another blanket. Jason asks Maxie to be honest. Maxie says that she heard
on the news that two Russian guys were beat up and wanted to see if
Jason’s gun had been fired. Jason asks, “What if it had?”
Maxie says that she didn’t have time to find Jason’s gun and even if
it had been fired, she wouldn’t do anything. Jason asks why she was
looking for it. Maxie says that she is curious. Jason tells her not to
touch his stuff. Maxie says that she is kind of nosy and that she has an
extremely active imagination. Jason says that it compromises him to have
her in his house because she is the police commissioner’s daughter.
Maxie says that she would never give information about him to her dad or
any other cop. Jason says that she wouldn’t do it intentionally. Maxie
says that if something happened to him because of her, Spinelli would be
wrecked and that means that her lips are sealed. Jason says that it would
wreck Spinelli if something happened to Maxie and she asks for
clarification. Jason says that Maxie isn’t helping Spinelli. Jason says
that Spinelli shouldn’t be taking risks with Maxie. Maxie says that
Spinelli was trying to impress Jason, but Jason says that he was trying to
impress her. Maxie says that she follows Spinelli because she doesn’t
want him to get hurt. Jason says that Maxie needs to stop trying to help
Spinelli because she is making things worse and it would kill Spinelli if
she got hurt while trying to help him.
Jason says that when Maxie goes after Spinelli she is telling him that she
doesn’t think he can handle it on his own. Jason says that Spinelli
doesn’t want Maxie to save him, but she does it anyways. Maxie asks
Jason if it is time to show Spinelli some hand-to-hand combat or karate.
Jason says that he isn’t going to teach Spinelli martial arts. Maxie
says that she needs Spinelli around and starts to say something, but
stops. Jason asks her what she was going to say. Maxie says that Jason
probably thinks that she used Spinelli because he walked in on them after
they had sex. Maxie says that she feels like she used him, but Spinelli
didn’t even get angry. Jason says that Spinelli cares a lot about Maxie.
Maxie says that she doesn’t know why she is telling him any of it
because he thinks she is annoying. Jason says that he is glad she is there
because he needs her help. Jason says that he has to go out again and
needs her to look after Spinelli. Jason tells Maxie to stay in
Spinelli’s room and make sure he is resting comfortably, but not to
touch his stuff or ask questions. Maxie thanks Jason for not kicking her
out and Jason says that he is just doing it for Spinelli.
Despite assurances from Jason and Spinelli that she looked fine, Maxie
worried about what she should wear for her appearance on the witness
stand. When Jason told her it did not matter what she wore, Maxie said it
did. She said that her wardrobe choice would have a big influence on the
jury and whether or not they believed her. Both Spinelli and Jason assured
her that she had the talent to outwit Scott Baldwin. As she left the
penthouse for court, Maxie told Spinelli that it was selfish of her to
wish that he could be there to support her.
Robin approached Elizabeth and wondered what Patrick had said. Elizabeth
did not say and Robin admitted that since Patrick had done what she had
asked and had stopped proposing marriage, she wanted him to start asking
again. Elizabeth said that maybe Robin was ambivalent to marriage and that
there was nothing wrong with that. Besides, Elizabeth went on, making a
commitment to one person was pretty scary, especially if you were not
absolutely certain. Robin responded that no one could ever be absolutely
certain. Elizabeth said that was her point. Robin smiled. Robin said that
what she knew for certain was that she loved Patrick and Patrick loved
her. She knew that Patrick was the one who was brave enough to put his
heart on the line and she had not even been willing to meet him halfway.
Robin feared that worst of all, she had really hurt Patrick with her
refusal to get married.
Jason went to Shadybrook to get Lulu, but an Assistant District Attorney
had already picked her up. Jason was surprised to learn that Lulu
had been handed over to the authorities and taken to court to testify.
Elizabeth walked out to the back patio and was startled to see Jason. She
asked him what he was doing at Shadybrook and then wondered if he knew
where Lulu was. Jason filled her in on what he had just learned before he
called Nikolas to let him know. After Jason ended the call, Elizabeth
broached the subject of their relationship. She told Jason that she had
let go of her dream of a white picket fence, and wanted to find a way to
make things work between them. Elizabeth said that she was willing to
settle for whatever Jason could give her. Jason insisted that, in the end,
their attempt at happiness would end badly. Before Elizabeth could say
anything further, Jason turned and left.
Jason returned to his office and found Spinelli waiting. Jason realized
almost immediately that something was wrong. When he asked Spinelli what
was bothering him, Spinelli told Jason about Maxie's testimony. Spinelli
feared that his presence in the courtroom had been a mistake. Spinelli was
convinced that Maxie could no longer bear the sight of him as a result.
Jason listened as Spinelli went on to say that his feelings for Maxie had
not changed because of what she had said on the stand. Jason suggested
that perhaps Maxie was humiliated and needed some time.
Jason was unprepared when Elizabeth suddenly walked into his office and
closed the door. Jason tried to get her to leave, but Elizabeth dug in her
heels. She was determined to talk things out with Jason. She told him that
when she first came to Port Charles, she was fearless and went after what
she wanted. She liked that about herself and intended to embrace that
philosophy again, starting with Jason. Elizabeth was tired of being
miserable all of the time. They were interrupted by a knock from Cody, who
told Jason that Karpov wanted to see him. Jason to convince Elizabeth to
leave through the back door, but Elizabeth refused to budge. She
compromised by slipping into the next room before Karpov was shown in.
Karpov didn't waste time with idle chitchat. He accused Jason of ordering
an assault on two of his men. Jason corrected Karpov. Jason didn't order
the assault; he took care of it himself. Jason knew that Elizabeth was
nearby and had heard the entire exchange.
Jason told Karpov that he let the guard live in order to give Andre a
warning. If Andre touched another person under Jason's protection, Andre
would be the next person headed to the hospital. Andre said he didn't need
to be warned again and left. Once the coast was clear, Liz came out of
hiding. Jason told her she needed to leave, but Liz wasn't deterred. She
said she could still separate the mobster from the man she loved. They
were interrupted when Cody barged in. He overheard Andre making a call as
he was leaving, so Cody put a tail on Mr. Karpov and was headed that way
to follow him. Jason decided he wanted to be a part of it, also. He walked
past Liz and left her standing alone in his office. Cody and Jason showed
up at the clinic. Cody assured Jason that Andre and another man had met at
the clinic. They couldn't figure out what interest Andre Karpov had in the
free clinic.
Liz knocked on Jason's door and wanted to finish their conversation from
earlier. Jason said he needed to go. He had a meeting with the city
council about permits, and he couldn't keep them waiting. Liz asked if
Jason was deliberately trying to ignore her and not finish their
conversation. Jason reminded her that what she had overheard and witnessed
was the way Jason lived his life. She couldn't ignore that people shot at
him and he shot people back, sometimes killing them. Liz said she knew she
couldn't have a future with Jason, but she wanted them to live in the
moment. Jason appeared to give in as he walked over and pulled her into an
embrace and kissed her.
Elizabeth went to Jason's place and told him that she wanted to be with
him, even if it was only in the moment. Jason tried to discourage her by
telling her that they could not have a future. Elizabeth said that she did
not care. She said that she accepted what Jason did. She also accepted
that they did not have a future together, but she said that she wanted to
be with Jason and if all they could have was the moment, then she wanted
that. Jason kept pointing out pitfalls, but Elizabeth answered that it was
her choice to make and she would decide when it was time to get out or get
hurt. She said that she had thought it all out and she wanted to be with
Jason. She asked him if he felt the same way about her as she felt about
him. He answered by saying that he feared for her safety and the danger it
would put her in. She asked again how he felt. She wanted to know if she
was kidding herself to believe that Jason reciprocated her feelings. His
response was to kiss her, pick her up, and carry her upstairs to his
bedroom where they continued kissing and undressing each other.
A tearful Carly showed up and wanted to see Jason. Spinelli, who didn't
know that Jason was upstairs with Elizabeth, told Carly that he was gone.
Spinelli tried to comfort Carly and offered her a cold drink. She
accepted. Spinelli went off to the kitchen and Carly went upstairs to wash
up. Carly was shocked when she opened the door to Jason's room and
interrupted Jason and Elizabeth who were on the bed kissing and undressing
each other. Carly quickly left, but Jason immediately got up to see what
was wrong with his friend. Liz told him it was okay to go check on he,
although it was very apparent she wasn't happy with his decision. When
Carly came downstairs, Spinelli noticed she was more upset than she had
originally been. He offered her a glass of water and asked what was wrong.
Jason came downstairs and Spinelli was surprised to find he had been home
all along. Spinelli apologized for Carly interrupting Jason's nap, but he
soon realized Jason had not been napping when Liz walked downstairs.
Spinelli was distraught that he had inadvertently allowed Carly to
interrupt Jason and Liz's private time together. Jason told his young
friend to be quiet because he wasn't helping the situation. Liz said she
was going to leave because the hospital was short on nurses. Carly
actually apologized for interrupting her night with Jason, but Liz said
she knew where Carly stood with Jason. After Liz and Spinelli were gone,
Carly told Jason that Jax had left her and taken everything. It was for
good this time. Jason had predicted it would happen. Carly said she was
ruined, because she would never love anyone the way she loved Jax, it hurt
her badly. The next day, Jason interrupted Maxie and Spinelli as they were
trying to set Carly up with an online dating service. Jason thought it was
a bad idea and told them so. Maxie was quick with the comeback but Jason
insisted that they at least get Carly's permission before proceeding. They
agreed but as they left the penthouse, Maxie grumbled that they should try
to get Jason set up as well.
Diane met Jason at his office, but before they could talk business, Max
followed her in. Instead of making up, they continued to argue about each
other's faithfulness. Anger followed and Diane finally roared that she
never wanted to see Max again. He left Jason's office dejectedly. When he
was gone, Diane started bawling loudly and clinging to Jason, literally
crying on his shoulder. Diane cried to Jason about her broken heart.
She couldn't believe Max would cheat on her. Jason was speechless as Diane
talked about Max's wonderful abs and puppy dog eyes. Sonny came in to talk
to Jason about the wedding. Diane went off the deep end, in shock and fury
that Kate was still marrying Sonny. Diane told both men that Sonny always
got what he wanted. She sat down in a heap after mumbling there would be
no wedding in her future. Sonny decided it was time to leave and left
Jason to deal with Diane. Jason wasn't sure Diane could keep it together
for their meeting with the city council. Diane assured Jason she would be
just fine. She had pulled all kinds of strings to schedule the special
session and had promised she would be there with Jason. When Diane started
to mumble and rant again about Max, Jason offered to go by himself to the
meeting. Diane told him the city council would be scared if Jason showed
up alone. They would think he was preparing to massacre them. She repeated
that she would be just fine, and said she would accompany him to the
meeting.
**The End**
