Ric & Liz #3  July 8 - November 4, 2003 - 8 hour original edit

Jason played the audio surveillance tapes of Ric and Alcazar discussing a woman for Sonny to listen to. Jason is sure that Ric has Carly and that is the woman they are talking abot. They listened to the door opening sound, but couldn't identify it. Sonny took the tape to pass to the FBI for analysis but thinks they are talking about Elizabeth. Alone, Elizabeth read the instructions on the ovulation test she bought and was thrilled to see would soon be ovulating, ready to conceive. Elizabeth meets Emily at the Hospital and Emily confides that she finally told Zander the truth about her cancer. Emily also admits that she came to truly care for Nikolas while they were 'engaged." Then Emily brings Elizabeth up to speed about the status of the Cassadine fortune and the reasons why Nikolas has no other choice but to marry Lydia to keep the fortune intact. Elizabeth observes that Emily almost sounds jealous of Lydia. Then Elizabeth happily confides that she and Ric are once again planning a family! Emily advises Elizabeth to enjoy being happy with the man she loves just as long as she possibly can do it!

Ric enters the Panic Room. Ric takes the opportunity to remind Carly that Sonny is in bed with Faith but Carly retorts that Ric is probably harming Elizabeth by feeding her so many birth control pills. Carly warns Ric that Sonny will eventually discover Ric and Carly reminds Ric that Ric is destroying everything and everyone that Ric loves just to get even with Sonny! When Ric leaves the Panic Room, the hidden bug again picks up the sound of the opening and closing of the door, but the surveillance expert still does not recognize the reason for the sounds. As Sonny and Lorenzo argue, Ric suddenly walks in and demands to know what is going on. When Sonny questions Ric showing up just then, Ric covers by complaining that Lorenzo still has not delivered the money promised for the apartment. When Sonny tells Alcazar that Sonny believed that Lorenzo paid Ric in cash for the apartment, Lorenzo covers by telling Sonny that Lorenzo is still waiting for the money to be transferred from one of his off-shore accounts. After Sonny storms away, Ric demands to know why Alcazar was entertaining Faith the previous evening. Alcazar claims that he was just trying to pump Faith for information about Sonny. Lorenzo again warns Ric that Ric is in over his head. Then Lorenzo orders Ric to leave. After Ric leaves, Lorenzo places a call to an operative, telling him: "It is time! Let's get Carly out of there!"

At the same time, Jason's surveillance expert reports to Jason that he is still picking up an unidentified Frequency whenever Ric is alone. When Ric returns home, Carly is surprised to see that Ric has something in a suitcase. Using sophisticated electronic equipment, Ric changes the combination to unlock the Panic Room, but Jason and his surveillance expert continue to listen in as Ric makes the change in the emergency system locks. Ric spots the surveillance van across from his home and, realizing that the van has been left unguarded, Ric investigates with gun drawn. As Ric listens in on the surveillance equipment, Alcazar and his operative arrive at Ric's front door to move Carly. As Carly watches hopefully on the monitor, Alcazar tries his remote control and realizes that his remote no longer opens the Panic Room door!

Ric shows up at Alcazar's and points a gun at him and asks him if he was planning to take Carly and deliver her to Sonny in exchange for Sonny's business. Alcazar tells him that he is in too deep and needs his help. He agrees to continue being partners with Ric. Ric leaves after Alcazar tells him to get rid of the bugs Jason planted at his home. Ric tells him he has a better idea and leaves. Jason returns to the van. He hears some paper shuffling and nothing else. Liz comes home early. He is surprised to see her and tells her he was just finishing some paperwork on a case he is settling right now. He tells her that he has something to tell her that is important. Carly wonders what he is up to while she watches and listens to the monitor. Jason listens as Ric confesses to Liz that he hasn't totally given up his hate for Sonny but that he has been secretly trying to find Carly for Sonny even if he hates him. Jason lets Sonny hear the conversation on the headphones when he arrives at the van. Ric tells her that his feelings for Sonny are complicated. Elizabeth is very supportive and believes he is deep down a good man. Carly can't believe Elizabeth is falling for his lies again. Sonny finds what Ric said somewhat logical for Ric in his twisted mind. Jason tells him that Ric could also be lying to Liz.

Ric puts crushes up some birth control into Liz's orange juice and gets her to drink it before she leaves for the day. Carly watches from the panic room and comments about how he wants to prevent her from conceiving a baby since he wants her baby instead. After Liz leaves, Ric checks on her in the panic room. She is crying and pleads with him to let her go and reminds him they were once good friends. Ric tells her that he thinks of her as a good friend and tells her that Sonny isn't good enough for her and she should give up on him now that he is sleeping with Faith. Carly gets upset and tells him that she doesn't understand why things had to change when they were so good. Ric acts sympathetic and leaves her. Carly throws something at the monitor and tells him that if he wants to play mind games he picked the wrong person to play them with since she invented them herself. Ric goes to see Sonny. He has a folder in his hand and tells Sonny that he hired his own private investigator to find Carly and that despite how he feels about him he wants to make peace and that is why he is handing over the P.I.'s file. Sonny thanks him for his help and suggests that he could use the fact that he works for Alcazar as an advantage to finding out where Carly is. Before Ric leaves, he turns around and tells Sonny that he didn't tell him the whole truth and that he has something to confess to him about. Jason is back in the surveillance van and tells his technician to shut everything down on Sonny's orders. Liz returns home early and calls Ric and leaves a message for him on his cell-phone to pick her up some extra-strength aspirin because she has a really bad headache. Carly watches her from the monitor in the panic room. Liz goes to get a blanket to lie down on the couch with and notices the cabinet to the bookshelf is open and goes to shut it. She notices a white button attached to the inside of the bookcase. She looks at it and wonders what is for. Carly watches her and urges her to push the button when she realizes what Liz found. Jason's technician tells Jason that Liz is home and called Ric for some aspirin and that she is making noise near where they heard that strange sound coming from. However, before they can listen in on the tape, the doors to the van are opened and Scott and a cop are there to tell him he is under arrest for violating the restraining order to stay away from the house. Scott tells him that Ric called him to report seeing a van there. Liz pushes the button and is shocked speechless when the panic room door opens and she sees Carly near the doorway thanking her for finally finding her and that Ric kept her there. Liz is immobile and is stunned at the sight of Carly.

Ric admitted to Sonny that he had Jason arrested. Ric insisted that he and Elizabeth wanted to live in peace but that Jason kept disrupting their lives. Sonny convinced Ric to drop the charges against Jason, promising that Jason would bother him no more. Scott escorted Jason and Sonny to Ric's, where Jason reluctantly removed the bug. As they all turned to leave Sonny sensed something. He told Scott he and Jason were staying behind to wait for Ric. Scott left and ordered Sonny not to call the police with his family problems. Sonny told Jason he could now sense that Ric had Carly.

Elizabeth was stunned when the secret door opened and there stood Carly. Still chained, Carly desperately yelled to Elizabeth, but Elizabeth was frozen with shock. Carly begged her to call 911. Elizabeth picked up the phone and startled to dial, but was suddenly overcome with vertigo and collapsed to the floor. Carly yelled for Elizabeth to toss her the phone. Elizabeth managed to do so just before passing out, but the phone was just out of Carly's reach. Carly struggled and finally managed to reach the phone with an umbrella, but just then Ric entered. He grabbed the phone from Carly's hands and rushed to Elizabeth's side. He demanded to know what Carly had done to Elizabeth. Screaming, Carly told Ric he had hurt Elizabeth with the pills he had secretly been feeding her. She demanded that he let her go before Elizabeth awakes and tells everyone that she saw Carly. Flustered and anger, Ric closed Carly back up in the room and rushed Elizabeth to the hospital where she was admitted. Tony Jones told Ric that a blood clot had caused Elizabeth's collapse, but that they had been able to remove it. Tony was puzzled over Elizabeth's chart, which indicated that she had been on no medications although her symptoms seemed to indicate a reaction to one. Ric made a bedside apologize to a still unconscious Elizabeth for hurting her. Elizabeth muttered Carly's name in her sleep.

Ric talked to Elizabeth in the hospital room. She started coming to, saying Carly's name and Ric told her she'd had a nightmare. Scott came in to talk to Ric and tell him the bug had been removed and Sonny was waiting for him to return home. Ric came home and found Sonny there. Sonny wondered why Ric talked about Elizabeth as though she were already dead. Ric reminded himself that she is a fighter and everything will be fine. Sonny told him to never give up. After Sonny left, Ric went to see Carly and brought her dinner. She taunted him by saying the cops would rescue her soon, everything was out of control and Elizabeth was paying the price. Audrey went in to visit Elizabeth and talked to her about staying strong and getting better. Faith lurked outside and as soon as Audrey left, she rushed in. Faith mocked her and pulled the oxygen away from her face and picked up a pillow, promising to take care of Ric when she was gone. Sonny walked in just in time to stop her and warned her to stay away. When Faith was gone, he tried to talk to Elizabeth about what was going on in their house. She started coming to and whispered Carly's name.

As Ric sits beside Elizabeth's hospital bed, Ric worries aloud about what will become of Ric now that Elizabeth has seen Carly in the Panic Room. Lorenzo eavesdrops and realizes that Elizabeth is now an unwitting witness to Carly's abduction. Lorenzo enters the room and whispers to Ric that Ric's entire scheme will be laid bare when Elizabeth wakes up. Lorenzo reminds Ric that Elizabeth will guess that the only way for Ric's plan to succeed would have been for Ric to kill Carly after the baby was born! Lorenzo suggests that Ric can still have what Ric really wants revenge against Sonny!

Lorenzo's plan is for Ric to continue with his scheme and, after Carly is out of the way, offer Sonny a chance to recover his child in exchange for whatever Ric demands in return! When Ric protests that Elizabeth will tell everyone that she saw Carly, Lorenzo suggests that Ric just guarantee that Elizabeth does not wake up. Lorenzo adds that, in Lorenzo's estimation, Ric's supposed 'love' for Ric's wife is secondary in Ric's list of priorities ~ the real goal in Ric's life is to get revenge on Sonny! However, as Ric contemplates Lorenzo's opinions, Audrey suddenly arrives and kindly reassures Ric that no one could have prevented Elizabeth's latest medical emergency! Audrey assures Ric that she can tell that Ric's love for Elizabeth is genuine. Then Audrey tells Ric that there could be some motor, sensory or memory loss that could be extensive for Elizabeth! After Audrey leaves, Ric whispers to Elizabeth that Liz's memory loss could solve everything! Courtney and Jason arrive at the Hospital with Michael and Maxie tells Jason about Elizabeth's pulmonary embolism. Jason and Courtney slip in to Elizabeth's room. When Jason tells Courtney that it is strange that Elizabeth would suddenly be in critical condition only weeks after marrying Ric, Courtney goes to find a doctor to find out about Elizabeth's condition. Michael spots Ric in the hallway and tells Ric pointblank that Michael saw Ric take his mother! In the meantime, Jason speaks to an unconscious Elizabeth and tells her that Jason is afraid that IF Elizabeth stays with Ric, Liz will end up dead! At that moment, Elizabeth flat-lines and Jason stares in horror at the monitor!

The crash cart was rushed into Elizabeth's room and Tony succeeded in getting her heart beating again. Jason told Tony to notify hospital security and tell them not to allow Faith Roscoe anywhere near Elizabeth. Tony told Jason and Courtney that Elizabeth should make a full recovery. Down the hall, Michael attacked Ric and said he knew that Ric took his mother away. Ric pretended innocence. Sonny arrived and scolded Michael, telling him not to make up stories, even going so far as to tell Michael that Ric is helping them search for Carly.

Sonny joined Ric, who sat near Elizabeth's hospital bed. He told Ric that he empathized with him, saying he knows what it's like to fear losing someone you love. Ric said he wished he'd told Sonny he was his brother as soon as he came to town and that he wished he'd never started the feud between them. After Sonny told Ric that, for the first time, he actually feels a brotherly bond between them, Sonny added that he'd give his life to have Carly safe again. In the panic room, Carly began suffering from excruciating pain and abdominal cramps. She feared losing her baby until the cramps and pain went away. Breathing a sigh of relief, Carly then noticed something strange on the monitor: a man, dressed in black, picked the lock of the house and let himself in. Carly watched, wondering who the man was, as the man sat down on the living room sofa and opened up a suitcase and began fidgeting with something. Carly watches the mysterious intruder in Ric's home through the monitor and wonders who sent him and why. The mysterious intruder works with some electronic equipment similar to what Ric was using to change the frequency's on the secret electronic door.

Ric told a sleeping Elizabeth that love and revenge can't exist in the same space, and that one of them has to be sacrificed. After whispering that he'll love her forever, and that the only way he'll survive is if she never wakes up, Ric asked Elizabeth to forgive him, then he gave her a kiss. Standing up, Ric grabbed hold of a pillow and held it firmly while looking down at a peaceful-looking Elizabeth. Ric holds a pillow near Elizabeth's head to smother her but can't go through with killing her and starts to cry. Elizabeth does wake up and tells Ric she loves him. She also doesn't seem to remember seeing Carly in the panic room and Ric is relieved. Audrey sees them later. Ric returns to the house and tells Carly that he is letting her go because of his love for Elizabeth and lets her call Sonny to tell him where she is. She calls Sonny and tells him where she is. Lorenzo visits Elizabeth in her room. He tells her that Ric has Carly in a secret room in her house. Liz is disturbed by what he tells her but the information triggers her memory and she has flashbacks and remembers seeing Carly in the panic room. She tells the police that Ric kidnapped Carly. Sonny and Jason arrive at Ric's and find no sign of Carly but they find Ric laying on the floor of the panic room, unconscious.

Elizabeth remembered seeing Carly and called the police. When Garcia came, she explained to him that she had seen Carly chained to a wall in a secret room in her and Ric's house. She said it all made sense now, Ric's frequent disappearances and reappearances. Elizabeth realized that she had been lied to by Ric all along and that he had only wanted that house for the secret room. Ric bleeding from the head and lying on the floor. Sonny picked him up and slammed him against the wall, demanding to know where Carly was. Ric told him that he didn't know, that someone had come in and struck him on the head, and that when he awoke Carly was gone. Ric told Sonny it must be Alcazar as he was the only other person who knew Carly's whereabouts. Garcia and another officer entered and separated Ric and Sonny. Ric told Garcia that Sonny would have killed him had they not arrived just then. Garcia told Ric to thank Elizabeth as she was the once who had called the police. Sonny told Garcia to arrest Ric and issue an all-point bulletin for Alcazar and Carly. Ric insisted that he needed to go to the hospital first and get checked out. Garcia had the officer issue the APB and call for an ambulance.

Elizabeth heard that Ric was also at GH and went to his room. She told him how horrified she was that he had lied to her and was hiding Carly all along. Ric insisted that he had done it all for Elizabeth, but she told him she didn't want to hear it. Elizabeth told Ric he was sick and twisted. As she spoke she realized that Ric must have also paid Dr. Gordon to lie about her not being able to have children. Ric decided to tell Elizabeth everything and admitted not only to hiring the doctor to lie, but to feeding Elizabeth birth control pills once Dr. Meadows had told her that she could conceive after all. Ric told Elizabeth that although he never intended to hurt her, that the pills had caused the embolism that almost killed her. Elizabeth smacked Ric, telling him that he had lost her and that she never wanted to see him again. Elizabeth stormed out. Once the door closed behind her the anger turned to grief, and she cried.

As Elizabeth checks out of the Hospital, she runs in to Bobbie, who reminds Liz that Ric has disappeared from the Hospital. Liz wonders if Ric merely escaped to avoid prosecution, or if Ric has been taken somewhere to be killed! Emily arrives before Elizabeth leaves, and Liz fills Emily in on the recent events in Elizabeth's life. Emily urges Elizabeth not to blame herself for not being able to see through her husband's lies. As the two women talk, Emily confesses that her feelings for Nikolas changed while they pretended to be engaged. Before they can finish their conversation, Nikolas and Zander arrive. After Emily and Zander leave, Elizabeth stays behind to speak to Nikolas and asks Nikolas point blank if he is in love with Emily. While Nikolas agrees that he has always loved Emily, Nikolas insists that, no matter what his feelings for Emily were, Nikolas would never interfere with Emily's relationship with Zander.

At Ric's Place, as Courtney pleads with Jason to put their life together ahead of any determination Jason has to get rid of Ric, Jason hands the remote to the Panic Room to Courtney and angrily instructs Courtney to see for herself what has happened to Ric. When the door slides open, Courtney is relieved when she sees that Ric is still alive. Jason angrily points out to Courtney that dealing with Ric is part of Jason's business and that Courtney just interfered again! with Jason's job! But Ric tells Courtney that he supervised the building of the compound where Alcazar is probably holding Carly and Ric might be able to get Carly out safely. Jason asks Courtney if she is going to believe Ric and go to Sonny with Ric's tale. Jason then blasts Courtney for not trusting Jason enough to let Jason do his job and Courtney walks out in a huff. Before leaving the house himself, Jason tells Ric that someone will come back for Ric if they need Ric's information. Otherwise, Jason will dump Ric's body somewhere nice and Jason leaves Ric alone in the Panic Room. Later, Ric is surprised when Elizabeth returns home to pack some of her things. Ric desperately tries to signal Elizabeth even though Ric knows there is no way for Ric to contact Liz. But, before Elizabeth leaves with her bags, she takes one last look at the Panic Room and discovers Ric! Ric tells Elizabeth that Jason locked Ric in the Panic Room. When Ric expresses the belief that his prayers have been answered, Ric pleads with Elizabeth to believe that Ric was trying to straighten things out and put his life with Elizabeth back on the right path, when Alcazar stepped in and took Carly before Carly could be released. But Elizabeth coldly informs her husband that he can rot in the Panic Room for all she cares. Elizabeth shuts the door again and walks out of the house as Ric watches Liz's retreating back on the Panic Room Monitor.

On the plane, Alcazar tells him that Ric is crazy and can't be trusted. He tells him the irony of what he is asking him to do since Sonny was in a way responsible for his own brother's death. Sonny agrees to have Jason kill Ric if he hasn't already. Alcazar hands him the phone. Sonny calls Jason at his penthouse. Jason answers while Courtney is in the room. He tells Jason that if he hasn't already done it, to get rid of Ric now. Jason starts to argue about that but he can tell by how Sonny said it that it isn't what is seems and says ok. Courtney asks him what is going on. He tells her it was Sonny and that he has something he has to do. Courtney really starts to worry about Jason. Elizabeth shows up at the house and lets herself into the panic room by using the button in the bookcase. She tells him that she couldn't sleep last night because she kept thinking about what he did to her and needed to know from him why he lied to her and she believed him after what he had already done to others before she took him back and married him. She tells him she needs to know so that she can make sure not to let any other man do the same to her again. She feels that she has no judgment when it comes to picking men and that she seems to be attracted to men who go to jail. Ric tells her that she did nothing wrong and that he was the bad person for hurting her like that. He tells her that her love and faith in him made him let Carly go. Elizabeth doesn't believe him. She tells him that she is going to let him go only because she can't let Sonny or Jason torture and kill him and she asks him if there is any place he can go and hide.

A noise draws their attention. They see Jason coming up the front walk. Ric tells her he wants her to go and let Jason do what he needs to do. Elizabeth runs out of the panic room and shuts it closed with the button and hides in the hallway. Jason lets himself in and opens the panic room. She watches in horror as Jason empties his gun with several shots in Ric's direction. Elizabeth screams for Jason to stop it. Jason hears her and gets angry with her for coming over to see Ric after what he did to her. Elizabeth fights him as he drags her out of the house and into the car. Elizabeth fights him as he carries her into Sonny's penthouse. Courtney comes downstairs when she hears Elizabeth accusing Jason of killing Ric. Elizabeth tells Courtney what Jason did and how he dragged her out of the car and how Max took Ric's body in a bag and threw in the trunk. When Courtney doesn't act surprised, Elizabeth realizes she already knew what Jason was going to do and didn't stop him. Elizabeth plans to call the cops and report Jason but he stops her from making the call. Elizabeth tells Jason that Ric did some horrible things but didn't deserve to be killed by him. Jason tries to explain that things aren't the way they appear but Elizabeth heads to the door to leave to report them. She hears Ric's voice telling her to wait. She turns around to see Ric at the top of the staircase, alive and well.

Ric begs Elizabeth to take him back. She tells him she will never come back to him. She warns Courtney not to go along with this life she has with Jason, because his morals are twisted just like Ric's. She leaves and heads to Kelly's to talk to Bobbie about getting her job back at Kelly's. The waitress tells her Bobbie is expected there soon. Elizabeth waits there and Scott shows up to question her about where Ric could be. Elizabeth doesn't tell him anything at first. Scott believes that Jason and Sonny has him and will probably kill him if they haven't already. Elizabeth tells him that Jason has him held up there at Sonny's place. Jason ties up Ric And tapes his mouth shut so he doesn't have to listen to him. Sonny shows up and is angry with Jason for not killing him like he told him to on the phone. Jason explains that he didn't think he wanted him to kill Ric but just to make it look like he did for Alcazar's sake and that he put him here until he could find a safe house for him. Sonny doesn't like it but accepts Jason's decision to hold off. He approaches Ric and tells him he is taking him out. He takes him to Martha's Vineyard to the old house. Sonny grabs him and drags him up the stairs. He tells him that he never meant for their mother to fall down the stairs while she was pregnant for Ric and that since now after what Ric did to Carly he is going to throw him down the stairs and hopes he dies this time. He pushes him down the stairs but Ric is still conscious. Sonny plays with him and tells him he should try this again. Scott gets a warrant and goes to Sonny's place with a cop. He asks Jason where Ric is but Jason plays dumb and tells him he doesn't know where he is. Scott asks Courtney where Ric is. She is torn about telling him and doesn't say anything. Liz reminisces about her wedding to Ric and how happy she was.

Sonny shoved Ric around, telling Ric that Ric hated himself, not Sonny. Sonny wanted Ric to beg for his life, but Ric stubbornly refused. Ric told Sonny that he had caused Carly's situation by building an empire so powerful that someone like Alcazar would want it. Sonny continued to rough up Ric. Ric accused Sonny of hurting their mother, but Sonny informed Ric that Sonny's step-father had beaten Adela. Sonny told Ric that he was no better for what he did to Carly and to Elizabeth. Ric became very upset at the mention of Elizabeth, especially when Sonny told him that Elizabeth could be considered an accomplice thanks to Ric. Sonny told Ric that Carly and the baby would come home, and that they would be safe because Ric would no longer be around. Suddenly Jason burst in and told Sonny that Ric had key information about Alcazar's property. Ready to kill Ric, Sonny held a gun to Ric's head while Jason pleaded with him not to do it. Jason warned Sonny that the police had come to the penthouse looking for Ric on Elizabeth's tip. Jason also pointed out Sonny needed to stay out of jail to help Carly. Jason offered to kill Ric himself to protect Sonny from investigation. They heard a noise outside and Jason told Sonny that the cops had arrived. Jason dragged Ric off while Sonny answered the door. Scott and the police entered the house and asked Sonny what he was doing there.

Faith and Elizabeth continued to fight about Ric, with Faith blaming Elizabeth for his death. Elizabeth took credit for Ric finally letting Carly go before asking Max to throw Faith out of Sonny's penthouse. As she left, she welcomed Elizabeth into the Widow's Club. When Sonny returned, he assured Elizabeth that Ric was alive, but everyone had to think he was dead for him to still be useful to Sonny. Elizabeth made excuses for Ric, but Sonny did not want to hear it. Faith shows up at Kelly's to find Elizabeth clearing off the tables. She starts to harass her about taking her old dreary job back and blames her for what happened to Ric. Elizabeth can't believe she is rehashing the same argument they had yesterday. Faith tells her that she should have left Ric alone and that he was better suited with her. She tells her that Ric is dead because he tried to please her by being the perfect husband and cracked under the pressure. Elizabeth tells her that she is glad that Ric is dead. This angers Faith who asks her why she has had a sudden change of heart about Ric. Elizabeth tells her that she has had time to think since they last talked and realized that Ric did nothing but lie to her for months and that what he did to Carly and to her was too much and that if Ric came in the door she wouldn't take him back. Faith storms off.

Faith insists that Sonny take her to see Ric since she fulfilled her part of the bargain. Sonny takes off and tells Faith that Jason will take care of things for her. Jason brings Faith to see Ric, who is working non-stop on drawing the details of getting into Alcazar's compound in Venezuela. Max tells him he better find a way for them to get inside it or he is dead. Jason tells him he has until tomorrow to finish up the drawing and find a way for them to get inside the compound. Faith comes inside his room in the safe-house. Jason closes the door to leave them alone. Ric isn't too happy to see her and asks her what she wants. Faith tells him he should thank her for keeping him alive since she made a deal with Sonny so he wouldn't kill him. Ric doesn't buy that and tells her that he is alive because they need him to help them find Carly. Faith mentions to him that she ran into Liz at Kelly's and that Liz doesn't seem to care what happened to him and that she told her she is glad he is dead and so on. Ric tells her she is a liar and doesn't believe her. Faith tells her that it is a good thing that Liz doesn't want him anymore or she would have killed her. Ric tells her to stay away from Liz. Faith keeps taunting him until Ric turns the tables on her and throws her on the bed after she threatens to kill Liz if he doesn't sleep with him. Ric starts to fondle her roughly and tells her that he will be thinking about his wife the whole time they have sex. This angers Faith who throws him off of her and tells him she doesn't want to be some consolation prize for some insipid wife of his. She tells him that he needs to realize that she is the right woman for him. Faith argues with Ric about helping Sonny and Jason get Carly back only to get killed anyway. She tries to get him to listen to her own plan to get Sonny to let him go free if she helps him get Alcazar for the feds. Ric wonders why she is so infatuated with him when he has had her arrested and has shot her himself. She tells him that she sees his dark side and can relate to him as a fellow outsider. Ric listens and agrees that they are enough alike to deserve each other. Ric tells her that he went too far in his revenge against Sonny that he almost killed his own wife and tried to justify it to himself. He tells her that he plans to help Sonny and Jason find Carly in the compound and that she needs to stay out of it. Faith doesn't believe he will be allowed to live even if he helps Sonny.

Elizabeth went to the penthouse looking for Sonny. Courtney informed her that he was not home, but Elizabeth insisted on waiting for him. Courtney told Elizabeth that Ric was fine, that she shouldn't worry about him anyway. Elizabeth began to defend Ric, saying that he had done horrible things but that she had seen some good in him. Courtney reminded Elizabeth that Ric had made conscious choices to do bad things and warned Elizabeth against taking him back. Elizabeth declared that she would never take Ric back, but that she would always feel some attachment to him because of the baby they lost together. Elizabeth told Courtney that when you share that kind of pain with someone, you are always connected.

Faith could not convince Ric that they belong together. Ric told Faith that he had to show Elizabeth that he was good by helping get Carly back. Faith was disgusted by Ric's continued devotion to Elizabeth. Faith left and approached Elizabeth outside Kelley's. She gave Elizabeth the address to the safe house where Sonny was holding Ric, hoping that Ric would see for himself that Elizabeth was not interested in a reunion. Elizabeth surprised Ric when she arrived at the safe house. Sonny went to the safe house to check on the progress of Ric's map. Ric pleaded with Sonny to let him go help rescue Carly, citing his knowledge of the compound and of Alcazar's employees as essential assets to make the mission a success. Sonny warned Ric that he would not give him another opportunity to betray him. Ric tried to convince Sonny that he really did want to help free Carly since it was his fault that Alcazar had her. Elizabeth tells Ric that although she still cares for him they can never get back together again after all the pain he's caused.

On board Sonny's jet, Jason cautions Sonny about relying on Ric's report about Carly's whereabouts, but Ric insists that Alcazar's guard told Ric that Alcazar stopped in Leon because Carly had gone into labor. Jason questions whether or not one of Alcazar's guards would have all of that information, but Sonny points out that Sonny's guards know a lot about Sonny's business that Sonny doesn't necessarily tell them just because they are, by nature, observant. Sonny tries to find out if Alcazar stayed in Leon or took Carly somewhere else, but Sonny loses the connection to his contact in Leon. Jason reminds Sonny that Alcazar still needs Sony, so if they do not find Carly in Leon they should return to Port Charles. Ric tells Sonny that Ric spent a lot of time in Leon when working for Alcazar, and knows his way around the city. Ric promises Sonny that Ric will be able to help Sonny set Carly free. Sonny, Jason and Ric slip into a clinic in Leon, but are devastated when they discover only the cleaning crew! Sonny concludes that Alcazar has already moved Carly.

Ric, Jason, and Sonny arrive at one of the hospitals in Columbia to look for Carly but only find a cleaning woman at the last room. They go back to the hotel and Sonny and Jason argue with Ric about what hospital she could be in. Their argument is interrupted by a knock on the door. It is Courtney. Jason lets her in and demands to know why she risked her safety to come all the way here when one of their men could have sent the message. Courtney manages to tell them about Carly's call and where she is. Ric tells them it is only a few blocks away. Jason argues with Courtney but Sonny interrupts him to tell him he doesn't have time to wait for him. Sonny orders Courtney to stay in the room until they return. Courtney stays around but Alcazar busts in the door with a gun and asks her where they went. Sonny, Ric, and Jason show up at the clinic. Jason stands outside the room as a lookout and tries to find some sign of Alcazar's guards. One of Alcazar's men is hiding somewhere and has Jason in his target range. Sonny and Ric find Carly in one of the rooms. She sees Ric and asks Sonny why he is there with them. Sonny doesn't have time to explain. Ric tells them they need to get out of the clinic now.

Jason searches the area of the clinic for any signs of Alcazar's men. He goes back into Carly's hospital room and tells Ric and Sonny that he doesn't like it that there are no guards around and they need to get out of there. Carly tells them she can't walk right now because she is afraid her labor will start again. Jason tells Sonny he will carry her. Ric and Sonny have guns and look around the area. Alcazar's men set up an ambush inside the clinic. Ric notices one of the men coming out and aiming at Sonny. Ric warns Sonny to duck and takes a bullet in the leg and chest. Jason protects Carly and shields her until he can find a hiding place. Ric tells Sonny to leave with Jason and Carly and he will stay behind and deal with the men. Sonny and Jason leave with Carly. Ric had shot at the men but got to weak to do much good and the men came upon him laying against the couch in the waiting area. Ric gets medical treatment at the clinic and Carly's female doctor there administers it. He starts to panic as he gets weaker from the gunshot wounds. She tells him he will be fine and to relax. He tells her he needs to see his wife Elizabeth and let her know that he did everything he could to help Sonny and Carly get away safely and that she needs to know that he did it for her. He starts to hallucinate and imagines it is Elizabeth that is there and not the doctor. He tells "Elizabeth" what he did to help Carly and Sonny and asks her to forgive him. Meanwhile, Elizabeth starts to pack her clothes into a suitcase from Ric's house. She sees a photo of the two of them on the table and reminisces about the happy times she had with him but places it back on the table and it crashes to the floor. Lucky comforts Elizabeth when she breaks down after believing that Ric is going to die. . Liz feels that she has to do something about Ric's death and that there is only one man responsible. Lucky tells her to slow down as she walks away.

Ric starts to go into cardiac arrest after he realizes Elizabeth isn't there with him. Ric dreams of Elizabeth as he hovers near death. Jason saves Ric from certain death at the hands of Alcazar's henchman. Jason rescues Ric from the clinic because he thinks that Ric may be able to help rescue Courtney. Ric begs Jason to take him to the Port Charles and asks Jason to trust him in helping find Courtney. A priest comes in to give Ric his last rites. Jason pays the priest to bury a body laying in the bed as Ric Lansing. They fly back to Port Charles and Ric begs Jason to call Liz but Jason refuses. Ric tells Jason that Liz thinks that he is dead. Jason tells Ric that it would have been better for Liz if Ric would have died. Jason tells Ric that Carly almost died because of Ric and that now Lorenzo has Courtney, saving Courtney is Ric's only chance. Jason calls Sonny that he and Ric are on their way back to Port Charles. Ric only agreed to help rescue Courtney if Jason brought him back to Port Charles.

Liz barges in, screaming that Ric is dead and it is all Sonny's fault. Liz hysterically blames Sonny for Ric's death and left him there to die. Liz tells Sonny that Ric called her to say goodbye. Sonny tells Liz that Ric chose to do this. Liz tells Sonny that he was Ric's only family and that he still treated Ric like dirt and that he gave up his life to make up for the things that he did. Carly tells Liz that Ric deserves to die for keeping her locked in a cell and how could Liz defend Ric? Carly doesn't allow Liz to blame Sonny stating that it was Ric who kidnapped her, chained her and planned to take her baby so Ric could give it to Liz. Carly tells her that she watched all of this on monitors while she was locked up. Carly tells Liz that she even told Ric that she saw Faith poison the lemonade and gave Ric the chance to open the doors, but Ric chose to let Liz drink so that it wouldn't expose his plan. Carly tells Liz that Ric fed her birth control pills so she wouldn't get pregnant and that Ric paid a doctor to tell Liz that she was infertile and that the birth control pills may even be the cause of the embolism. Carly throws Liz out of her house. Liz recalls all of the things that Carly told her about Ric and gets up to leave. Ric is shocked when Faith arrives at the Hospital and gains entrance to his restricted Hospital room, even though Ric is signed in under an assumed name. Faith informs Ric that he is a sitting duck at the Hospital and offers to help Ric slip away from the Hospital and find a safe place to hide. Ric informs Faith that Alcazar now has Courtney but wants Carly back, so Jason and Sonny STILL need Ric to help them rescue Courtney. Faith warns Ric not to trust Jason. When Ric admits that he only came back for Elizabeth because Ric truly loves his wife, Faith warns Ric that Elizabeth will turn Ric over to the police if Liz finds out that Ric is still alive. But Ric insists that Elizabeth is all he cares about and he only wants Elizabeth to know that he is trying to make things right!

Elizabeth runs into Zander at Kelly's and tearfully urges Zander to make every moment of his life with Emily count. Elizabeth arrives at the Hospital to meet her grandmother. Elizabeth tearfully informs Audrey that, since Ric is probably dead now, Elizabeth plans to leave Port Charles. Audrey begs Elizabeth to reconsider her decision, but Elizabeth remains firm in her decision.

Later, Carly discovers Ric in hiding at the Hospital and promises Ric that she plans to make sure that Ric is miserable every day of the rest of his life. As Carly gloats about her triumph over Ric, Sonny and Jason arrive and Sonny soon orders Carly to leave. However, after Sonny quizzes Ric and Ric admits that he has no idea which port Alcazar would take Courtney to Sonny declares that Sonny hopes Alcazar's men find Ric and finish him off! After Sonny leaves, Ric goes to the Chapel to pray. While Ric is in the chapel, Elizabeth comes in and Ric overhears Elizabeth praying for Ric and for the strength to forgive all that Ric has done. As she prays, Elizabeth admits that she still loves Ric in spite of all the damage that Ric has done. No longer able to keep silent, Ric speaks to Elizabeth. She looks up and sees that Ric is alive. She runs over to him and hugs him. Elizabeth joyfully rushes in to Ric's arms. But, as Ric again declares his love for Elizabeth. Ric tells her he came back to Port Charles for her. Elizabeth kisses Ric. Liz suddenly pulls away and slaps Ric, knocking Ric off his feet!

Ric is a little unsteady because of the crutches he is walking on but doesn't fall down. He turns to her and explains that he thought he was going to be killed by one of Alcazar's men and that is why he called her. He tells her that Jason killed Alcazar's goon and saved his life. He tells her that he did die and saw a bright light and then saw her. He tells her that he saw her and that she told him not to go to the light and to prove his love for her and come back to her. Elizabeth doesn't really believe him. She asks him why Jason didn't kill him right then. Ric tells him that he demanded that Jason take him back to Port Charles or he wouldn't tell him how to get into Alcazar's compound to get Courtney, who Alcazar kidnapped. Elizabeth isn't impressed and tells him he hasn't changed since he is using someone else's pain to get what he wants. She tells him that he should have died and that she doesn't want him back and leaves.

Faith goes to Ric's hospital room to convince him to leave with her because Liz may be revealing his whereabouts to the PCPD. Dara Jensen walks in per Ric's request to litigate for his defense. Faith tells Ric that he doesn't need Dara or Liz and that all he needs is Faith. Ric tells her that he doesn't need her and demands that she leaves. Faith tells Ric that one day soon, Ric will need her and she will slam the door in his face and leaves. Dara tells Ric that he is going to need a miracle to win his case. Lorenzo bursts in to Ric's room with a gun and threatens to kill him for what he did to Carly. But Faith comes in and aims a gun at Lorenzo. Suddenly, Sonny comes into the room and disarms Faith and forces her out of the room. Sonny tells Lorenzo that they need to come to an agreement. Lorenzo asks Sonny if Ric is more important to him than Carly and asks why Ric is still alive after all that he did to Carly. Lorenzo puts the gun on Ric, but Sonny tells Lorenzo that he would be just like Louis if he killed Ric. Lorenzo removes the gun and walks away. Ric thanks Sonny for saving him. Sonny tells Ric that he had his reasons for saving Ric this time, but it won't happen again. Dr. Lewis arrives at Ric's room. Ric asks him to treat him.

Liz visits Emily and Liz talks about Ric, while Emily talks about Nikolas. Dara knocks on the door needing a moment with Liz. She tells Liz that Ric has asked to her to be his defense lawyer and she feels that his only chance is with Liz. Liz tells her that she doesn't think that she can testify. Ric tells Dr. Lewis that he was not of sound mind when he kidnapped Carly and that his hate for Sonny bordered on obsession. Ric recalls the day the Liz had her miscarriage and seeing Sonny and Carly at the hospital with their baby on the way. Ric tells Dr. Lewis how he treated Carly well, kept her well nourished and gave her medical treatment. He planned on returning Carly, but blames Lorenzo for taking advantage of his obvious mental distress. Dr. Lewis does not believe that Ric was not temporarily insane and will not testify to that. Dr. Lewis heads for the door and Liz walks in. Ric asks her to tell the jury how happy they once were and how devastated he was when she miscarried. Liz agrees to tell the court that she was happy and that she believed everything Ric told her, but it was a lie. She tells him that the only thing she knows about Ric is that he is a great liar.

At the same time, Carly continues to give her statement to Mac of Ric's plans to kidnap her baby for Liz. Carly begins to see the effect of recalling the details is having on Sonny and asks Mac to postpone her statement for the morning. Sonny tells Carly that she needs to give her statement so that he and Mac can hear the details of what Ric did to her. Carly continues to recall Ric's plan and how he planned everything down to sizes of her maternity clothes. She recalled fighting with him every chance she got, but she feared for baby and how she tried to run out the door and that was when Ric chained her to the wall. She recalls the day Jason came to the house and how she threw a tray at the monitor to get his attention, knocking herself unconscious instead. She recalls the day Lorenzo was standing in the panic room with her. All the while, Sonny sits and listens uncomfortably.

In Ric's room, Sonny walks in with Max pointing a gun. He tells Ric that he will be leaving in a body bag. Sonny tells Ric how heard Carly tell how Ric tortured her and that he will pay for what he did to her. Carly bursts into the room and begs Sonny to release Ric. She tells Sonny to not kill Ric and how she needs him to be around for her and the family. Sonny releases Ric and leaves his room. When Mac arrives at Ric's Hospital room, Mac discovers that Ric is missing. When Faith shows up a few minutes later, Mac accuses Faith of helping Ric escape and threatens to throw Faith in jail if Mac ever discovers that Faith helped Ric escape. A groggy Ric shows up at Elizabeth's studio and begs Liz to help him elude the Police, as well as Alcazar and Sonny! But Elizabeth coldly reminds Ric that their relationship is over! Ric begs Elizabeth to go away with him and get a fresh start somewhere else. Ric promises that he would finally get the help that he now realizes that he needs. When Mac suddenly arrives at Elizabeth's studio to ask questions about Ric, Elizabeth hides Ric in a storage room and tells Mac that although Elizabeth does see Ric everywhere she turns, Liz is positive that Ric would surely realize that Elizabeth would never cooperate in helping Ric escape the punishment Ric so richly deserves. After Mac leaves, Elizabeth warns Ric not to believe that Liz would do anything else to help Ric. Ric begs Elizabeth to let him stay with her for a couple of days, until he can figure out a way to avoid being killed by Sonny and Lorenzo. Elizabeth refuses to listen, even though Ric pleads with Elizabeth not to give up on him yet. When Elizabeth declares that she is calling the police, Ric leaves. But, before Ric leaves, he tells Elizabeth that he will always love her.

After Ric leaves, Elizabeth calls her grandmother and makes an appoint to meet her grandmother. Faith meets Ric in Ric's Hospital room with a lab coat, glasses and an ID badge to help Ric disguise himself as a doctor, so Ric can slip out of the Hospital. When Ric tells Faith that he will give Faith anything she wants for helping him, Faith insists that she does not believe Ric's promise! As Faith and Ric argue, Elizabeth goes past Ric's room and spots Ric donning his disguise. Elizabeth follows Ric and Faith as they head toward the elevator. Ric wakes up to Faith bringing him breakfast in bed. She tries to seduce him and is rejected. Ric apologizes for rejecting her and that if he sleep with her, she would end up hating him too. He asks her to arrange his escape and she agrees. Later, when Faith returns, Scott walks in and offers Ric a plan. Scott tells Ric that he is dropping the charges because Carly is an unreliable witness and there is no proof to back up her accusations. Ric asks Scott what would be in it for him. Scott tells Ric that he has other fish to fry, meaning Sonny. Ric is to be the bait for Sonny. He tells Ric that he is the bull's eye and Faith urges him to take the deal. Ric accepts and Scott leaves. Ric tells Faith that he is not going anywhere and that there is still too many things important in Port Charles, like the chance to get his wife back.

Elsewhere at the hospital, Liz approaches Lucky and Lydia. Lucky tells Liz that Emily has meningitis and has suffered a seizure. Liz and Lucky embrace, while they promise to spend more time together when all of this is over as Lydia watches. The doctor breaks the news to Monica, Zander, Liz and Lucky. Zander goes to see her, while Liz and Lucky embrace again and Ric appears. Lucky tells Ric to leave. Ric tells Liz that all of the charges have been dropped and he has a chance to start over. Liz is stunned that charges were dropped. She tells Ric that he hurt her, but what he did to Carly was worse and that he belonged in jail. She tells him that she doesn't care about him anymore. She leaves with Lucky.

Ric returns to his apartment to find Sonny waiting for him. Ric tells him that he did not have a choice in taking the deal, but Sonny tells him that he did have a choice, but he made the wrong one. He calls Ric a coward. Ric tells Sonny to kill him. Sonny refuses. He tells Ric that he will wait until years from now and one day Ric will die by Sonny's order. The last words he will hear is "this is for Carly" and Ric will vanish while Sonny is at home with his family, sleeping next to his wife. Later, Faith enters and asked why Sonny spared him. He tells her that Sonny made it very clear that his life was definitely in his hands. Ric tells her that he needs to form alliances. Ric begins to kiss Faith. She tells him that he better be sure that this is what he wants, because if he hurt her again, she will kill him herself.

Elizabeth returns to the home she shared with Ric and is not really surprised when Faith answers the door, wearing a negligee! As Faith informs Elizabeth that Ric has moved on, Ric suddenly arrives and orders Faith to leave Elizabeth alone. Ric asks Faith to let him speak to Elizabeth alone. After Faith leaves, Elizabeth delivers some divorce papers, but Ric pleads with Elizabeth not to rush into anything and assures Elizabeth that Ric is determined to prove to Elizabeth that he is genuinely committed to restoring Elizabeth's faith in him. Elizabeth reminds Ric that she defended Ric to everyone who tried to warn Elizabeth and that it is now too late for Ric to make amends to anyone! Ric asks why Elizabeth brought the papers by herself, instead of sending her attorney. Elizabeth replies that she wanted to make sure that Ric realized that their relationship is truly over. After Elizabeth leaves, Faith accuses Ric of hoping that Elizabeth would see Ric with Faith and would become jealous enough to reconsider Liz's decision to cut Ric out of her life completely! However, Ric assures Faith that Ric is fully aware that he has no more hope that Elizabeth would ever return to him. Faith warns Ric that he needs to prove himself to Faith as well! Scotty asks Ric for ammunition against Sonny and all information Ric has on Lorenzo.

In the chapel, Jason prays for Emily. He asks for Emily's fear to be taken away. He can't imagine this world without Emily. He asks for help for it to be okay for Emily to go. Liz puts her hand on his shoulder. Liz sits next to Jason and tells him how beautiful and heartbreaking the wedding was. Liz tells Jason that she can't imagine life without Emily. Jason puts a comforting arm around Liz as she lays her head on his shoulder. Courtney sees from outside of the window. As Courtney sits alone in Jason's Penthouse, still taking large doses of painkillers and washing them down with coffee, Courtney is more than a little miffed when Elizabeth suddenly arrives, announcing that she needs to tell Jason about Emily's miraculous recovery. However, Courtney blasts Elizabeth for trying to move in on Jason while Jason is upset by news about his sister's uncertain future. Courtney coldly reminds Elizabeth that there were many other ways to give Jason the good news about Emily's recovery without showing up, unannounced, on Jason's doorstep! As Courtney angrily reminds Elizabeth that Ric was just as sick and twisted as Courtney had warned Elizabeth that Ric would be, Jason suddenly arrives home and demands to know what is going on! Courtney's erratic behavior toward Elizabeth's visit to the penthouse starts to concern Jason. Elizabeth tells Jason, who just walked in that she just came over to tell him the good news about how Emily woke up and is getting a little better. Jason thanks her but tells her that he saw Emily and knows already. Courtney asks her to leave and accuses her of coming over to be near Jason. Elizabeth leaves. Jason asks her what is wrong with her.

Elizabeth shows up at the park at Carly's request. Carly asks her to stay away from Jason and that he loves Courtney and is happy with her. Elizabeth disagrees about that and tells her that Jason isn't married and she can spend time with him if she wants to. Carly warns her to back off. Ric happens to be there and overhears the conversation. He asks Elizabeth what the conversation was about concerning Jason. Elizabeth tells him it is none of his business and walks away. Earlier, Elizabeth talked to Zander about how happy she is for him and Emily and tells him she is divorcing Ric and trying to move on with her life.

Ric finds Jason sitting on a park bench and accuses him of meeting Elizabeth there and accuses him of wanting Elizabeth back. Jason tells him that Elizabeth isn't his wife anymore and that he is alone. Courtney shows up at the park. She runs into Ric, who is sitting on a park bench. She tells him to leave her alone. Ric tells her that she should be worried about not seeing Jason around since he wants Elizabeth back and fills her head up with what everything means. Jason runs into Elizabeth on the docks and sits with her to talk about Emily's condition. Ric spies on them talking. Elizabeth apologizes to Jason for not listening to him when he warned her about Ric. She tells him that she is moving on with her life and divorcing Ric. She and Jason call a truce. Jason leaves. Ric confronts her about her friendship with Jason and accuses her of trying to get him back. Elizabeth tells him that Jason was her friend before he came into her life and will be her friend long after he is gone. Ric grabs Elizabeth as she starts to walk away from him and shakes her. He tells her that he has always loved her and that he can't believe she won't give him a second chance to prove it. Elizabeth tells him that she is divorcing him and to stay out of her life. Faith has a run-in with Carly at G.H. Carly ignores her insults and tells her off. Faith overhears what Elizabeth said to Ric on the docks. Later, Courtney gets behind the wheel of her car, Ric gets behind the wheel of his car, as well as Faith. Elizabeth is crossing the street when a car comes barreling down the street and hits her. Faith stands over looking down at Liz, smiles and says how glad she is that Ric is free now and walks away, leaving Liz lying on the ground. The paramedics take Liz to the hospital. Scott has a feeling who hit her.

Ric barges home and throws a glass against the wall. He makes reservations for a one way flight to Manhattan. He begins to pack and comes across a picture of Liz and himself. Faith enters and tells him that she is going with him. He tells her that he isn't returning. He tells her that he can't stop her from coming. He calls the airline agency to add her seat and the detective knocks on the door to tell him about Liz's accident. At the hospital, Liz lays unconscious with bandages around her eyes with her Audrey sitting next to her. Nikolas enters and asks how Liz is doing. She tells him that she was afraid he was Ric and that Liz's accident may have been a random accident, but she can't help but think that Ric may have brought this on Liz. Liz wakes up and wonders where she is. Audrey tells her that she had an accident and was at the hospital, Liz cries for Ric. Ric bursts in. Audrey asks him what he is doing there. Liz tells her that it's okay and that she wants to speak to Ric. Scott barges in and Ric asks them to leave. Liz tells them to stay because she was afraid of being alone with him. She accuses Ric of being so angry with her after their discussion on the pier that he hit her with his car. Scott arrests Ric for attempted murder on Liz.

The evidence against Ric mounts as Sonny informs Scott of the damage to Ric's car. Meanwhile, Kyle tells Maxie, Georgie and Dillon that he saw a blond woman standing over Elizabeth's unconscious body. At the hospital, Dillon protects Elizabeth, whose eyes remain bandaged, from Faith as Georgie calls security. Kyle goes to Scott and exonerates Ric while implicating Faith in Elizabeth's hit and run. Nikolas, Emily and Lucky rally around Elizabeth. Alone with Nikolas, Elizabeth voices her belief that he and Emily are in love with each other and that Emily's marriage will fail. As Bobbie accompanies Emily on her walk around the Hospital, they hear Elizabeth cry out. When they rush to assist Elizabeth, they find Liz crumpled on the floor. Liz tearfully reports that she can not see!

At the Port Charles Police Department, Ric begs Scott to let him go so Ric can protect his wife from Faith's next psychotic attack. But Scott informs Ric that Ric can not be released until the forensics report on Ric's car is returned to the D.A.'s office. Elizabeth's physician gives her the bad news that she could be permanently blind but urges Elizabeth to rest and not to leap to any conclusions. In the meantime, Ric continues to try to convince Scott to turn him loose, but Scott demands to know more about Ric's relationship with Faith. However, Ric contends that he never led Faith on although they did hit the sheets together. Scott lectures Ric about the possibility that Faith is a true psycho who will keep after Elizabeth until Faith succeeds in bumping Liz off. Scott gets the forensics report on Ric's car and learns that there is no human DNA on Ric's banged-up bumper! Scott still refuses to release Ric, arguing that Ric is now a material witness who could testify to Faith's motives for attempting to murder Ric's wife!

Later, when Faith arrives at the PCPD under arrest, Ric grabs Faith and accuses Faith of trying to kill Elizabeth again and then attempting to pin the blame all on Ric! But Faith protests that she is innocent and had no reason to want to pin anything on Ric, just when Faith was already sleeping with Ric and Ric was ready to leave town with Faith! Ric promises Faith that if he ever discovers that Faith had anything to do with Elizabeth's accident, Ric will kill Faith himself! Ric arrives at the Hospital and learns from Bobbie that there have been complications in Elizabeth's case! When Ric arrives in Elizabeth room, Ric informs Elizabeth that Faith has been arrested for the hit and run and that Ric plans to get the best doctors for Elizabeth. But Elizabeth tells Ric that he is insane and orders Ric to get out of her room. When Liz gropes for the phone to call a nurse, she can't find the phone!

Elizabeth lashes out at the physical therapist who comes to help her adjust to being blind. Elizabeth insists that her blindness is temporary. Ric shows up at the club and asks to speak with Sonny. Sonny isn't interested in Ric's request. Ric tells Sonny that Faith needs to die. Sonny refuses to help him. Jason goes into Elizabeth's room to talk to her. He sees her snap at the physical therapist and suggests she let her help her even if the blindness is temporary. Elizabeth thanks him for coming and talking with her. Courtney watches them talk from the doorway. Later, after Jason and Courtney leave, Ric shows up and watches Elizabeth from outside her door. Maxie approaches him and tells him that Elizabeth was upset earlier but that Jason showed up and talked her and that she is much better thanks to him. Ric doesn't like hearing that and wishes he could help Elizabeth too without her knowledge of his presence there. Maxie gets a radio and plays a song that Elizabeth has bittersweet memories of. Maxie pretends that she just picked the cd because she thought she would like it. Elizabeth tells her while Ric is listening that it was a song she loved and that she use to dance with her husband to it. Ric watches her smile and feels drawn toward her. Elizabeth reminisces with flashbacks about dancing with Ric to that song. Liz listens to the song that she and Ric danced to as Ric watches from the doorway. Audrey arrives and demands Ric to leave Liz alone, but she interrupts and tells Ric to stay because she wants to speak to him. Ric sits down next to Liz and she asked if he remembered the night they danced to the song. She tells him that she was so in love with him that night and as Ric asked if she thinks they could ever have that again, Liz asks if Ric was thinking about the panic room that night. He tells her that that night was all about the two of them and not about Sonny. Liz tells him that it is always about Sonny. She asked him how much he paid Maxie to play the song and he tells her that he did that just to make her feel better. Liz tells him that the man she danced with that night does not exist. Ric leaves and tells her that he is not going to apologize for wanting to help, he loves her and always will. When he leaves, Liz turns on the CD player and listens to their song.

Courtney wakes up from the dream. Jason asks her what is wrong. Courtney wonders if she may have been the one who hit Elizabeth with her car and not known it because she was so high on the pills she was taking. Jason comforts Courtney about the nightmare she had about driving a car that hits herself. She wonders if it will trigger a memory, Jason tells her that it was a just a dream and it doesn't mean anything. Carly meets with Alcazar. He tells her that he saw Courtney hit Elizabeth with her car but was most likely unaware of it because she was so high on painkillers at the time. Carly isn't ready to believe that Courtney hit Elizabeth and asks him if he is trying to set up Courtney to get to Sonny. He gives her the keys to Courtney's car and the directions on where to find the car he hid for her. Carly finds the car way out in country and goes to find it and get rid of it. Carly puts Courtney's car in gear and gets out to let the car roll off the embankment. However, her coat sleeve gets caught in the driver's side door and she can't get it loose as the car starts to roll closer to the embankment with her attached to the door. She starts to cry out in panic and try to get her jacket free. She manages to pull her coat from the car door and lands near the edge of the cliff. She tries to pull herself up and begins to slip, but a nearby Alcazar grabs her arms and pulls her up to safety.

Courtney goes to Liz to apologize for her actions the day she was hit. Liz remembers the color of the car and wants to report it to the police, she asks Courtney to hand her the phone and she tells Liz that maybe she should wait. Liz wonders why and Ric overhears. Courtney tells her that she should be sure before she calls the police. As Courtney leaves, she tells Liz that Jason really cares for her and that if Jason can help, she wouldn't want to stand in the way. Outside of the hospital room, Ric approaches Courtney and begins to question her about what she is doing there. Ric asks her where Courtney was the night that she was hit. Ric confronts Courtney about Liz's accident and her whereabouts on the night of the accident as Jason listens. Suddenly, Jason attacks Ric and tells him that if he has a problem with Courtney, he needs to talk to Jason. He pins Ric against the wall and tells him that Courtney was with Jason the night of Liz's accident and he needs to end this talk about Courtney hitting Liz. Jason releases Ric and Ric leaves. Courtney tells Jason that Liz remembered that the car that hit her is the same color as hers. She asks him if he is covering something up and he tells her that he isn't, but he will find out.

Liz begins therapy to help her learn how to walk with a cane and is having a hard time. The nurse calls her Mrs. Lansing and Liz tells her to stop, hands her the cane back and begins to stumble and a nearby Ric catches her fall. Liz apologizes to the nurse and when Ric speaks, a surprised Liz asks him what he is doing there. He asks the nurse to give them a few minutes alone. Ric tells her that he just wants to be there for Liz. Ric rushes to Scott's office and informs Scott that Ric believes that it was Courtney who ran Elizabeth down. Ric explains that Courtney paid a surprise visit to Elizabeth, although Courtney and Elizabeth have never been friendly and that Courtney talked Elizabeth out of reporting recovered memories of the accident to the police. Ric informs Scott that he had encountered Courtney in the park before Elizabeth's accident and had also seen an encounter between Elizabeth and Carly, during which Carly ordered Elizabeth to stay away from Jason and Elizabeth had retorted that she would see Jason whenever and wherever she wanted. Ric reports to Scott that, when Ric saw Courtney, Courtney was very erratic and very upset by the prospect of Elizabeth and Jason renewing their old relationship. Office Andy Capelli shows Scott the forensics report on Courtney's car just as Courtney marches into Scott's office and announces that she believes that she was the one who ran Elizabeth Webber down with her car!

Sonny visits Elizabeth in her room. He asks her to just tell the police the truth that she doesn't remember who hit her and that is all. Ric comes in and gets the wrong idea about what Sonny is doing and accuses him of threatening her to lie for him to protect Courtney. Sonny denies he came for that and thanks Elizabeth and leaves. Elizabeth gets tired of Ric's tough love routine and tries to call the nurse to have him removed from her room. He grabs the call button from her. Elizabeth tries to climb out of bed and head out of her room to call for help when Ric grabs her to stop her and tries to talk to her. She falls down on the floor but is surprised and stops moving and tells Ric that she just saw a shadow right now and is ecstatic and forgets she is angry with him. She stands up with his help and touches his face and tells him she can see the shadow of his face and touches him. They call the doctor to let him know. He examines her eyes with a penlight and tells her it is looking better for to get her sight back eventually. Ric apologizes to her for being so hard on her earlier but she tells him that whatever he did helped her instead of hurting her and thanks him. Alcazar shows up at the PCPD and tells Mac that he saw the accident and that the driver was not Courtney and that the person who hit Elizabeth was a man with long blonde hair who is willing to admit he hit Elizabeth and ran away with the car because he had stolen it from Courtney and didn't want to get caught with it. The police forensic report proves that Courtney's car was the vehicle that hit Elizabeth because the DNA on the headlight matches Elizabeth's.

Jason arrives at the Hospital to visit Elizabeth after Elizabeth invited him to stop by. Elizabeth reports that the police will be there soon to take Elizabeth's statement about the hit and run and Elizabeth asks Jason why Courtney confessed to hitting Elizabeth if Courtney did not really run Elizabeth down. Elizabeth also asks why an unknown person would later confess to the same incident. Ric arrives at that moment and suggests that Alcazar paid someone to confess to running Elizabeth down to get Courtney off the hook so that Sonny would be obligated to Lorenzo. Ric warns Elizabeth that Jason is just taking advantage of Elizabeth's trust to help Courtney escape prosecution for running Elizabeth down. Elizabeth refuses to listen to Ric and Jason denies all of Ric's suppositions. Jason tells Elizabeth that he was sorry that Elizabeth was hurt but Jason pointedly does not deny that Courtney was driving the car that struck Elizabeth! As Ric and Jason argue, Elizabeth asks Jason to leave.

After Jason leaves, Elizabeth reminds Ric that Ric did once work for Louis Alcazar and Liz suggests that Ric's suppositions about what really happened is just part of Ric's on-going vendetta against Sonny. Ric insists that his vendetta against Sonny is over. Ric also reminds Elizabeth that it is not Elizabeth whom Jason loves! Ric reminds Elizabeth that Courtney is the woman whom Jason loves and warns Elizabeth that, because Jason loves Courtney, Jason would be willing to do anything to protect Courtney. Ric observes that, even though Elizabeth knows that Jason is in love with another woman, Elizabeth still trusts everything Jason tells her!

Liz is learning how to use a cane and runs into Ric. She tells him that she can see movement. Ric asks if she would like to take a walk with him outside. Ric and Liz walk down to the docks and run into Courtney. Ric tells Courtney to leave Liz alone, since she has done enough damage to her already. Liz asks Courtney to walk her back to the hospital. She tells Liz about the night of the accident and how she doesn't remember hitting her. Liz accepts Courtney's apology for Jason's sake. She tells her that she knows she didn't mean for the accident to happen. Liz tells Courtney that she knows how much Jason loves her and how much he would want Liz to forgive her. At the Court House, Ric secures Stefan's release, following Stefan's altercation with Nikolas. Ric guarantees Stefan that he will be cleared of the Summer Holloway murder charge!

Emily spots Elizabeth, out, practicing walking with her white cane. As Emily and Elizabeth talk, Emily starts to bring up Zander's brief fling with Carly, but Elizabeth misunderstands and believes that Emily is referring to Zander's brief fling with Elizabeth! Elizabeth blurts out the details of her affair with Zander to an astonished Emily! Zander returns to Kelly's and finds Elizabeth and Emily talking to each other. After Elizabeth leaves, Emily demands to know why Zander never told Emily that he had slept with her best friend! Zander reminds Emily that they were broken up when Zander had his affair with Elizabeth. Zander also points out that Zander's relationship with Emily has been complicated since Emily's return by Emily's choice to deceive Zander into believing that Emily had been hooked on pain pills, that Emily was engaged to Nikolas and, later, by Emily's admission that she had developed genuine feelings for Nikolas! Zander suggests that Emily is just looking for an excuse to call it quits on their marriage! After Zander leaves, Elizabeth returns and confesses that Liz overheard part of Zander's defense. Emily finally confides to Liz that Zander might be right about Emily's motives for feeling angry that Zander developed relationships with Carly and later, with Elizabeth, while Emily was out of town!

Elizabeth reads the headline about Stefan escaping from the hospital. Ric comes over to Kelly's and sits with her. She shows him the headline and asks him if he was aware of what his client was going to do and helped him escape. Ric tells her he was surprised by the news as she was. She tells him that she has a hard time with him defending the man who tried to have her best friend killed. She asks Ric if he can try to help people for a change. He tells her that even people like Stefan have a right to an attorney. Ric heads to the police station. He informs Scott that he took himself off as attorney to Stefan and that it was because of a conflict of interest. Scott doesn't care. Ric points out that Scott must need some help in his office and asks him for a job as assistant D.A. Scott laughs him off at first since Ric has a criminal record. Ric tells him almost everyone has one nowadays. Scott starts to warm up to the idea since he thinks Ric is a good attorney even if he is a sleaze. He gives him the assistant D.A. job and relishes the reaction he will get from Sonny when hears about it. Ric returns to Kelly's and tells Elizabeth about his new job and how he stepped down as Stefan's attorney after talking to her. She tells him she is glad he will be helping others.

Ric comes in to question Jason about Carly's disappearance. Courtney tells Ric that she was with Carly and that Carly fell down the stairs and that Sonny wasn't there. Ric insinuates that Sonny was there earlier and could have pushed Carly down the stairs. Jason tells Ric that he is hardly objective about this and shouldn't be the one who questions them. Courtney gets upset with Ric and tells him that he is the sick twisted one who kidnapped Carly to begin with. Jason tells him the questioning is over with. Courtney agrees to stay at the hospital while Jason goes to find Carly and make sure Sonny got there. Later, Elizabeth comes over with a clipboard and tells Courtney to sign it to be admitted into a room soon. She asks Elizabeth if she is volunteering at the hospital now. Elizabeth tells her she just came to visit her grandmother and realized how swamped she was with the storm outside and agreed to help get some of the paperwork done for her. Courtney tells her she got into a car accident on her way to get help and tells her that Carly was hurt and may have gone into labor.

At the Port Charles Police Department, Sonny protests Ric's attempt to arrest him, but Ric points out that Sonny shot Alcazar in the back and they do not yet have a statement from Sonny's other victim Carly! Jason reminds Ric that Alcazar has already said he will not be pressing charges. Scott arrives and announces that Sonny is released, but the charges are still pending. After Sonny and Jason leave, Scott informs Ric that Scott wants Ric to devote his full attention to taking Sonny down for the shooting. Scott is stunned when Ric refuses! As Scott fusses at Ric, Ric argues that a first year law student could get Sonny off so long as Alcazar refuses to press charges and Carly would never say anything to incriminate here husband! Ric assures Scott that Ric shares Scott's opinion that Sonny belongs in jail but Ric needs a case he can win before going into court in an attempt to nail Sonny! Elizabeth comes around the corner at that moment and, leaping to the conclusion that Ric is continuing his vendetta against Sonny, Elizabeth runs out. Ric follows Elizabeth to the docks and begs her to listen to him.

When Liz accuses Ric of only joining the District Attorney's office to legally be able to continue Ric's vendetta against Sonny, Ric counters with the argument that Elizabeth heard only part of Ric's conversation with Scott. Ric then reminds Elizabeth that it was Elizabeth who wanted Ric to take the job with the D.A.'s office and that, since Sonny is a criminal, part of Ric's job will always be prosecuting Sonny so long as Sonny remains a criminal and continues to exercise control as the town's major Mob Boss! Ric surprises Elizabeth when Ric demands to know what Elizabeth really wants from Ric and why she keeps Ric jumping through hoops of fire with hints of a possible reconciliation! Elizabeth hesitantly admits that Ric does give her hope that he could become the man Elizabeth once believed that Ric was! Elizabeth then admits that she was at the Port Charles Police Department because her grandmother gave her two tickets to the Halloween Costume Ball and Elizabeth thought Ric might want to go with her! Ric admits that he had already made plans to attend the annual ball and asks Elizabeth to go with him! Ric promises Liz that he only needs one chance to prove himself to her. When Elizabeth agrees to go with Ric, Ric suddenly kisses her and Elizabeth responds!

Devastated from just seeing Nik and Emily making love, Zander goes to Jake's to get toasted. He connects with Liz who's still hurting from her encounter Ric and they end up making out in his room. Sometime during all this angst, dreaming, and card scheming, Elizabeth and Zander find the time to make an ill-thought-out decision to have revenge sex. Zander tries to pull away but one sultry look from Elizabeth and he throws caution to the wind. Afterward, they express no immediate regret but after Zander leaves it's clear that Elizabeth is hit by what they've done. She immediately calls Emily for a meeting. Elizabeth meets up with Emily and confesses she just slept with Zander again.
