Ric & Alexis #1  November 22, 2002 - August 17, 2004 - 8 hr original edit

This edit begins with the Alcazar murder montage as he falls to his death, and Ric is lurking outside of Alcazar's penthouse and witnesses him falling to his death. The next scene is him standing up in court to defend Jason and Brenda (after Jason fires his attorney, they have been charged in Luis' death). Alexis is defending Brenda (to help out her good friend Jax). So this results in Ric & Alexis' first scene together though they never actually introduce themselves to each other, they just pick up with talking about the case. Next, Ric is desperate to stop Brenda being hypnotized as he fears she will remember seeing him lurking in the hallway outside Lorenzo's room (the hint is that Ric was the killer, interesting as anyone who saw the actual murder knows it couldn't have been him as he was standing outside and saw Luis fall to his death).

After Brenda remembers seeing Ric with a gun outside of Luis's hotel room, Jax arrives at the courthouse and demands that Scott arrest Ric for Alcazar's murder. Ric is taken in for questioning and maintains that he took a short-cut through the alley by the hotel, saw Alcazar fall, recognized him as Luis Alcazar and that he was dead. When Scott demands to know how Brenda saw Ric inside the hotel when Ric failed to see Brenda, Ric has no explanation. In the meantime, Alexis tries to get a continuance for the trial. Failing to shake Ric's story, Scott orders Taggert to find someone who saw Ric in the alley when Alcazar fell. Sonny arrives at the PCPD and asks Alexis to take Jason's case since Ric has turned out to have connections to Alcazar. Alexis protests that Jason does not need Alexis's help but Brenda does. While there, Sonny steps in and commends Ric for refusing to cooperate with Scott and Ric asks Sonny how much it will take to get Sonny to trust him. Sonny tells Ric that he is beginning to feel impressed by Ric.

After Sonny leaves, Scott reminds Alexis that it was Alcazar bringing Brenda back to Port Charles that set the wheels in motion which resulted in the death of Alexis' sister. She informs him she does not need to be reminded of her sister's death, and she has a family to think of now, a daughter, and she isn't eager to take on another mobster client.

Scott and Taggert are surprised when Coleman shows up at PCPD and claims that Coleman saw Ric in the alley when Alcazar fell. Taggert protests that Scott's latest witness has a history of questionable activities, including blackmailing Courtney Matthews, but Scott insists that Coleman is a good citizen and orders Taggert to take Coleman's statement and release Ric. When Ric is released, he informs Coleman that Ric knows that Coleman was not in the alley and asks what Coleman has to gain by clearing Ric. But Coleman tells Ric not to worry about it, and saunters off (note: AJ paid Coleman to lie about this, in order to get Ric clear as he wanted Jason to be convicted).  Scott informs Alexis that Ric has been cleared by a witness who saw Ric in the alley when Alcazar fell. Alexis warns Scott that if Scott keeps pushing, Alexis will be forced to defend Jason as well. Scott asks if Alexis has ever thought of saying 'No!' to Sonny. Ric receives a mysterious message in lipstick on his mirror that Brenda and Jason are innocent. He meets with a hooded woman (Alexis) who gives him evidence that clears Brenda and Jason. The judge clears them of all charges.

Later, Scott tells Alexis that he is going to arrest Skye for the murder of Alcazar and that he came to tell her that he is going to make the charges stick this time (he is lying as he knows Alexis killed Luis after an illegal wire tape revealed the truth). Alexis doesn't respond the way he wants so he mentions that she was at the hotel that night and witnessed the body of Alcazar laying on top of the car under where his balcony was. He also mentions that she was wearing dark clothing and that Skye remembers seeing a dark-haired woman in a dark coat leave Alcazar's room in a hurry. Alexis transforms into "Kristina" again and starts to get into Scott's face. Scott tells her bag of tricks won't work this time and turns his back on her. She takes the letter opener on her desk and points it near Scott's back and warns him that she killed Alcazar because he killed her and threatened Alexis and she will do it again to protect her now. Scott realizes Alexis is crazy and not herself as she points the knife toward him in a threatening manner. Ric tells Sonny and Jason that the news is reporting that Alexis Davis has been arrested for the murder of Luis Alcazar.

A few months later, Ned and Skye find Ric at GH and ask him given his recent troubles if he can still practice law? They want him to drag Alexis through the deepest dirtiest mud they can find and they hear that he is the person who can do it! Ned and Skye show up at the PCPD with Ric as their attorney. Ric tells Alexis that his client, Ned is filing charges of fraud and defamation of character against her and that he has proof that shows she hired Cynthia (who accused Ned of rape) as they are in custody dispute over Kristina. He tells her that Ned is suing her for $10 million. Alexis is arrested.  Stefan walks out and calls Ric's attention. He asks to hire him as his new attorney now that his sister is no longer representing him. An indignant Alexis tells Ric that Stefan is guilty of Summer's murder, that Stefan was trying to kill Emily. Ric warns her that she is in breach of the attorney-client privilege and that will get her disbarred, though she would lose her license anyway when she is convicted of criminal fraud. Ric agrees to defend Stefan. Ric finds a loophole and processing error to get Stefan released. Stefan taunts Alexis that Ric is going to get the case dismissed due to Alexis' actions.

Another few months go by and Ric is now the Assistant District Attorney, Ric is prosecuting Nikolas for Cody McCall's murder. Alexis goes to the wall and gets Nik out on bail. She is puzzled why Ric is so adamant that Nik not get out on bail, it raises her suspicions.  Alexis runs into Ric at the courthouse. She asks him why he is so determined to charge Nikolas with Cody's murder. He tells her that he has enough evidence to try Nikolas and that he is planning to ask the judge to deny bail to Nikolas. Alexis tells him that his behavior is suspicious to her and asks him if he has a hidden agenda concerning Nikolas. Ric tells her he doesn't. Alexis doesn't believe him.  Ric leaves the courtroom with an unhappy look on his face. He glares at Nikolas and Alexis as they are leaving. Ric comes around the corner as he is leaving the courthouse and runs into Zander. Zander tells him that he is disappointed in Ric for not getting Nikolas held without bail and threatens to end the deal they had (Zander will sign custody paper's in return for Nik's conviction). Ric tells him that he needs to be more patient and not to act without thinking first, which he points out Zander does all the time. Ric warns him that Alexis is already suspicious of his motives and if she gets evidence against Ric that she could have him removed from the case. Zander calms down and agrees to wait for Ric to get Nikolas convicted at trial.

Next, Zander is pressing charges against Nik after Nik has assaulted him. Nik, Em, Ric are in Zander’s hospital room and Zander confirms that Nik assaulted him. Alexis breezes in and questions Ric on having Nik arrested again! Ric rather cockily says that yes that Zander just identified Nik! Alexis demands to know if Ric got the ID from a police line up? Was Nik informed this was a police matter? Did he have the option of having his attorney present? Alexis continues, "No? I didn't think so! Good luck getting your ID into court counselor!" Alexis asks to speak with Zander privately, she tries to get him to not press charges. She tells him that Nik is family and she will whatever she has to in order to protect him, she sadly asks Zander if he releases what that means. He does, family is family and tells Alexis that there are no hard feelings. Ric arrests Nik and takes him away in handcuffs.

At the PCPD, Alexis questions Ric on why now he is being so cooperative. A bright Alexis has figured out Ric's motives, that he wants his family and will do whatever it takes. She states that Elizabeth is pregnant with Zander's baby and will sign over custody for the baby in return for Nik's conviction. She warns him that there is a jewel fence that he has made no attempt to even look for. She threatens that she doesn't have to tell him how much trouble he will be in professionally and personally if it comes out that he is tampering with evidence in order to obtain a signature on custody papers! She tells him that either she can talk to a judge or they make a deal! Her offer is that he keeps Zander thinking that Nik will be convicted then at last minute throw the case. He can then get an injunction against Zander from seeing the baby based on his police record and the fact that he is working for Faith, a known mob figure. He agrees on the condition that she doesn't tell Elizabeth. (Note: Ric later blackmails Zander into signing away his parental rights or Ric will frame Zander for Cody's murder!).

At the PC Hotel, Alexis tells Ric that they know where Zander is (he has been set up for Brian's murder, actually innocent it was Capelli) and that Zander will surrender under certain conditions. Ric throws back that they are not in a position to negotiate and if they don't turn Zander over he will charge them with obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting, he will not negotiate with anyone who shoots a cop! Alexis continues that Zander will turn himself in if Ric recuses himself from the case so Zander can get a fair trial, Ric agrees. The PC Hotel fire begins.

Carly gets in same elevator as Alexis. Carly and Alexis aren't too pleased to be in the same elevator together. The elevator makes a jolting movement which startles them. The elevator stops and the lights flicker inside.  Alexis tells Carly to stay calm and wait to be rescued, but having no interest in dying, Carly does the opposite and pries the elevator doors open with her shoe. Unfortunately, the two women are between floors and a wall blocks their exit. Carly then pulls off the top of the elevator and looks into the shaft to discover that the cables have frayed and are beginning to break. She and Alexis attempt to connect wires in the panel in order to get the elevator to move to a floor, but suddenly they scream as the elevator begins to fall. They abruptly stop as the emergency brake kicks in, but know that their time is short.

They try to distract each other by bonding as mothers, but after Carly admits that despite her problems with Sonny he is a great father, Alexis begins to cry. Carly tries to comfort her by pointing out that Ned will be there for Kristina, but Alexis tearfully admits that Sonny is Kristina's real father. Alexis confesses to Carly that Sonny is Kristina's real father, and a disbelieving Carly angrily calls Alexis a lying bitch. Alexis presses that it's the truth and explains she lied because she didn't want Kristina around the danger that killed her namesake. Carly counters that Alexis just couldn't bear to share her daughter with anyone, and Alexis asks her if she blames her when Sonny is trying to keep Carly away from her own two sons. As Alexis continues to ramble on about her impending demise, Carly's decides to do something to get them out of the elevator. Alexis panics at her movement, but Carly tells her to help her pry the door open. They manage to open the door and jump down to the hotel hall in the small space that's open. Once out of the elevator, Alexis immediately regrets her admission regarding Kristina's paternity!

Alexis calls Ric to the stand to testify in the Corinthos custody hearing (Carly has blackmailed Alexis into representing her). She asks him if he is close to Sonny as his brother. Ric tells her he isn't close to Sonny. Alexis asks him what he thinks of Carly as a parent. He tells the judge that he believes Carly loves her children very much but doesn't think she is a more suitable parent than Sonny. Alexis is surprised since he is supposed to be a witness for Carly, not Sonny. Ric tells the judge that Sonny may be a little overprotective of his children but that he believes he loves his children deeply and could provide a better home for them than Carly. Carly stands up out of her seat and accuses Ric of being a lying piece of scum. Ric gets off the stand and the judge calls for a recess. Sonny asks Ric what he wants from him in return for testifying for him. He tells Sonny that when Ric needs a favor from him that he hopes Sonny will come through.

At the cottage, Emily convinces Zander to give up his weapon and go with her to surrender to the police waiting outside. Emily promises that she will hold Zander's hand and no one will hurt him. However, as Zander and Emily step out on to the porch, Ric orders Zander to step away from Emily. Emily assures Ric that she is okay, and that Zander is surrendering. Ric orders Zander to kneel down and put his hands on top of his head. Instead, Zander shoves Emily out of the way. Telling Emily that he loves her, Zander puts his hands behind his back. The police leap to the conclusion that Zander is reaching for a gun and Ric gives the order to fire.

At the same time, Nik hears about Zander holding Emily as a hostage and gets in a car accident. Ric shows up at the scene of Nik's accident, with Lucky, Emily, and Alexis. He upsets Emily when he suggests that Nikolas could have drowned in the river if he was injured and wondered off. Emily slaps him across the face and accuses him of wanting Zander dead and not caring about Nikolas at all. Alexis accuses him of the same thing and wonders why he was even at the cottage in the first place when it was a police matter. Ric defends himself and claims he was just doing his job since Mac was severely injured and that there was no one but himself to help get things done at the police station.

Ric meets with a private investigator he hired to dig up information on Alexis' past relationship with Sonny, both professionally and personally. The P.I. tells him that Alexis denied having had any affair or fling with Sonny when she was running for D.A. Ric remembers Alexis admitting in court recently at the custody hearing that she did have a one-night stand with Sonny. Ric asks the P.I. if it is true that Alexis was pregnant not long after Carly returned alive and well from a car accident and got back with Sonny. The P.I. confirms that it was in that time period. He tells Ric that Ned is on the baby's birth certificate as the father. Alexis shows up at Kelly's and sits at the counter when she sees all the tables are taken. She takes out the newspaper to read when Ric approaches her. He asks her if she has any information that is not under attorney-client privilege that he can use to arrest Sonny. Alexis refuses to help him and tells him she doesn't want to get into the middle of a war between him and Sonny. Ric makes a remark about a private connection she had to Sonny that she would want to keep secret. Alexis tries to hide her panic. Ric realizes that she is hiding something for sure. Ric continues on his hunt for information about Kristina's paternity.

When Ric's attempts to get close to Alexis fail at Nikolas's memorial service, he meets again with his investigator. The man tells Ric that there was a paternity test done on Kristina, and that it showed that Ned was the father without a doubt. Ric remains unconvinced, and orders the man to continue searching until he can prove that Sonny is Kristina's biological father. At GH, Ric speaks to the man who switched the paternity test on Kristina. He gets the tech to admit that Sonny is the real father, and he prepares to use his information. Before he can leave, Carly rushes by and is stopped by Alexis herself. Ric hangs around the corner and tries to listen in as Alexis blasts Carly for ratting her out to Sonny. Carly tells her that Sonny doesn't know the truth, and it's only thanks to Carly. Alexis begins to rip into her regarding the quality of Carly's motherhood, when Sonny walks up behind her and warns her to back down. He asks Alexis how far she's going to push him, and does she want him to send Kristina back to her father?

As Ric listens in, Alexis blasts Carly for blabbing the secret about Kristina's parentage to Sonny. As Carly angrily denies Alexis's accusation, Sonny suddenly shows up and warns Alexis to quit pushing him. Then Sonny threatens to try to reunite Kristina with her father and snarls at Alexis that he has the power to ruin her. Ric comes out of hiding to intervene and angrily reminds Sonny that Ric has the power to arrest Sonny if Sonny continues to threaten innocent citizens. However, when Ric tells Alexis that he will be happy to run Sonny in to the Port Charles Police Department that very moment, Alexis refuses to even consider running Sonny in. Ric warns Sonny to quit bullying Alexis or Ric will arrest Sonny, with or without Alexis' statement. Carly drops veiled hints to Alexis about exposing all of Alexis's lies. Then Carly coldly informs Ric that Carly believes that Alexis still has "a thing" for Sonny! Alexis informs Ric that Michael is in the hospital and that Carly is just an unfortunate victim of stress. After Alexis storms away, Ric offers Sonny his sympathy about Michael's injuries, but Sonny coldly rejects Ric’s offer of sympathy and warns Ric to just stay away from Sonny's family. Sonny then rehashes a list of Ric's shortcomings, promising that, one day, Sonny will succeed in snapping Ric like a twig.

Alexis gets angry when she goes to the police station to see her client, who is being charged with armed robbery and finds out that Ric took the prosecutor off the case and is prosecuting the case himself. She confronts him about it. He tells her that her client needs to serve jail time. Alexis makes a case for her client, who is a single mother of two, with a deadbeat ex-husband and that she robbed the store with an unloaded gun out of desperation to help support her children. He agrees to a plea bargain for her client, 6 month jail time minimum. Alexis accepts the plea bargain. Faith shows up to try and get Ric to drop the charges against her. He refuses. He makes a comment to Alexis about avoiding a trial against him in court and how he would have won. Faith tells Ric she needs an attorney. Alexis surprises Faith when she changes her mind and agrees to defend Faith in court and vows to beat Ric in court.

At the Court House, Ric fusses at Alexis because Alexis's baby-sitter hasn't arrived yet and Ric suspects that Alexis is trying to use Kristina to get sympathy from the Judge for delaying the beginning of Faith's trial. After Kristina doodles with a crayon on Alexis's power suit, Emily arrives to take over. As Alexis rushes away to repair her suit, Ric observes that Kristina's dark, curly hair reminds him of his mother and of Sonny! After Alexis returns, Skye arrives and, spotting Kristina, Skye stops to speak to the baby in Emily's arms. Alexis snaps at Skye to keep her distance from Alexis's daughter. As Skye and Alexis trade insults, Ric interrupts just as Skye observes that Alexis acts like she stole Kristina and is going to be busted at any moment. Ric reminds Alexis that she shouldn't be speaking to Skye at all, since Skye is an important prosecution witness and threatens to charge Alexis with jury tampering if Alexis continues to badger Skye. After Ric ushers Skye into the courtroom, Faith arrives and notices the crayon marks on Alexis's suit. When Faith questions Alexis about the status of her case, Alexis answers Faith that Alexis will be handing the arrogant Mr. Lansing a surprising courtroom defeat! At the same time, Ric tries to advise Skye that there is no reason for having the jitters about her testimony, which Ric is positive will finally convict Faith!

Later, Alexis calls Ric away from a pre-trial conference. Alexis informs Ric that he needs to excuse himself from prosecuting Faith's case before Alexis humiliates Ric in court. Alexis points out that Ric has a clear conflict of interest because Faith and Ric were once bed partners. Ric explains that he has already discussed his affair with Faith with the Judge, and the Judge agreed that the affair was too brief to be a big problem. Ric assures Alexis that if Alexis brings up Ric's affair with Faith, Ric can promise that it will end up being more embarrassing for Alexis than for Ric! Later, Faith blasts Alexis for the way Alexis is handling her case because the Judge decided that Faith's case will have to go to trial. However, Alexis reminds Faith that she IS guilty and that Faith's best course of action might be to leave the country. When Faith asks if Alexis can win in court against Ric, Alexis replies: "In my sleep! That insufferable snake needs to be cut down to size! And, I am looking forward to doing it!"  Meanwhile, Ric congratulates Skye for her testimony against Faith and assures Skye that, when they go to trial, they will probably get a conviction!

Ric is informed that Liz gave birth to a healthy boy, and he grows angry over the fact that he wasn't there to witness the birth. He takes his anger at his failed marriage and uses it in the trial to break down Alexis. As Alexis defends Faith, Ric parades witnesses up to the stand to wear her down. He calls Ned to the stand, but Alexis is able to destroy him. Afterward, Ned warns her to watch her behavior lest Sonny find out that Kristina is really his daughter. Finally, Ric calls Sonny to the stand to rattle Alexis. She's stunned to hear Ric bring up her past with Sonny in the open courtroom.

In court, Ric obtains permission from the Judge to treat Sonny as a hostile witness. Ric also points out Sonny's intimate knowledge of both Faith and Alexis. Ric manages to get Sonny to admit that he once hit the sheets with Faith's defense counsel. When Alexis tries to get Sonny dismissed as a witness because Sonny would know nothing about the workings on board The Haunted Star, Ric argues that Sonny can testify about Faith's history of criminal activity. The Judge rules in Ric's favor but orders Ric to get to the point. Ric declares that he is laying the foundation for the court to recognize that, in her cross examination of Sonny, the defense counsel might be pursuing a personal agenda to get even with Sonny because Sonny dumped Alexis following a one-night stand. When the Judge allows Ric to continue his questioning, Sonny declares that Faith told Sonny point blank that she was a partner in The Haunted Star for the purpose of laundering money but Faith never mentioned that Skye Quartermaine or Luke Spencer knew anything about Faith's illegal intentions. When the Judge orders a break, Faith takes Alexis aside and blasts her attorney for following her own agenda instead of trying to get Faith off the hook.  Alexis assures Faith that everything will be fine.

Later, Alexis gets Sonny alone and urges Sonny to let Alexis lead Sonny into a way to retract his statement. But Sonny is mildly amused by Alexis's suggestion that he recant his testimony. When Alexis warns Sonny that he is giving her no choice except to rip him apart on the stand, Sonny smugly advises Alexis that her best bet would be to ask Sonny some harmless questions and then get him off the stand as soon as possible. When Faith's trial resumes, Alexis tries to push Sonny into an emotional outburst by hammering away about Sonny's hot temper and claustrophobia, but the Judge agrees with Ric that Alexis' line of questioning is irrelevant. When Alexis brings up Sonny's arrests on Rico charges, Sonny smugly points out that he was never convicted on any of those charges because his lawyer always got him acquitted because his lawyer believe that Sonny was a good and principled man. When Ric gets a chance at redirect, Ric gets Sonny to identify Alexis as the lawyer who believed that Sonny was innocent of the Rico charges.

Meanwhile, Faith again blasts Alexis for following Alexis' own agenda rather than trying to get Faith off the hook. Later, after the Judge has adjourned for the day, Alexis gets Ric alone at the courthouse and blasts Ric for constantly bringing up Alexis' one-night stand with Sonny in court. Ric accuses Alexis of deliberately picking fights with Ric because Alexis is secretly attracted to Ric! Faith watches as Alexis accuses Ric of merely being defensive about his impotent legal skills, but Ric counters by declaring that if Alexis wants to ask Ric out for a drink, she should just go ahead and ask! After Alexis declares that she would rather die of thirst than share a drink with Ric and storms away, Faith corners Ric and accuses Ric of openly flirting with Alexis because Ric wants Alexis to like him! Ric avoids Faith's questions and walks away.

At the PCPD, Faith questions Ric about his unexplained decision not to fight Alexis about the continuance Alexis requested and accuses Ric of having a soft spot for Alexis. Faith guesses that Ric is perhaps dangling after Alexis because Alexis had spent time in bed with Sonny and Ric finds Alexis intriguing because Alexis was one of Sonny's women. Ric warns Faith not to push it, or Ric will change his mind and send Faith to prison after all. Alexis arrives at Courtney's office and informs her that Jax hired Alexis to prepare legal work that will exclude Courtney's criminal brother and ex-husband from participating in the foundation. As Courtney assures Alexis that neither Sonny nor Jason will be involved in the foundation, Jax arrives and is surprised when Alexis declares that they will also need to exclude Carly from participating because Carly is married to a mob boss. When Courtney refuses to even consider excluding Carly, Alexis advises Jax that, if Carly takes part in the foundation, the specter of the mob will hover over every move that Courtney makes.

Ric arrives and Courtney blasts Ric for barging in to her office during a business meeting. Courtney is surprised when Ric announces that he is there, as an official representative of the District Attorney's office because he believes that Courtney's charitable foundation would become a front to launder money for Sonny and Jason! Alexis accuses Ric of just following Alexis around for no other purpose than to create trouble for Alexis. Alexis points out that checking on the foundation's paperwork is the job of the State Attorney General's office. Ric reminds Alexis that the case against Faith would have been wrapped up by now if Alexis had not filed for a continuance and accuses Alexis of dragging her feet on wrapping up Faith's case because Alexis is looking for excuses to keep getting close to Ric. Then Ric accuses Alexis of deliberately inserting herself into Courtney's Foundation because Alexis knew that Ric would investigate any activity that could be used as a front for Sonny's criminal activities.

Alexis is stunned when Ric announces to Courtney and Jax that Alexis is just protesting because Alexis is indulging in a bizarre mating ritual! Alexis demands to know if Ric has a search warrant to investigate the foundation's paperwork. When Ric admits that he arrived without a search warrant, but can get one, Alexis warns Courtney to watch out for Ric's tricks. Courtney reminds Ric that Alexis is Jax's attorney and, since Jax will be serving on the Foundation's board, Alexis would, of course, have legitimate reasons to also be advising Jax about his involvement with the foundation! Ric declares that he will get a court order to review the corporation's funding. After Ric leaves, Jax points out that Alexis appears to have changed sides rather quickly after Ric began voicing his suspicions about Sonny and Jason's possible involvement in Courtney's charitable foundation. Alexis declares that if Ric is opposed to Courtney's foundation, Alexis is in favor of it! Alexis promises that she will make sure the Foundation is squeaky clean and makes a hasty exit.

Ric questioned Luke because the blood found at Skye's cabin was Ross Duncan's. Luke confessed to the killing, but Ric believed it was a cover for either Skye or Laura. Luke was allowed to leave the police station.  Ric pulled Lucky off the case after Luke lost him during surveillance. Lucky resigned from the police force. Luke brought Helena to Ric at the police station but was arrested himself because the partial fingerprint found on the murder weapon was his.  Ric tells Helena that she's free to go, as he places Luke under arrest. Having found a fingerprint on the knife, Ric is prepared to take Luke to trial for Ross's murder. Lucky brings Skye to the police station where she tells Ric that Laura is the one behind Ross's murder. Luke angrily denies her accusation, and the two try to help the other out, until Skye gives in and admits all that Laura has supposedly done. Luke remains steadfast that Laura is not capable of the deeds, but DNA evidence appears to prove otherwise, and Ric officially names her as the suspect. Ric attempts to find Laura by calling a press conference, but he's interrupted by an enraged Luke. Luke tells Ric that he's putting Laura in harms way, and that he won't allow it. Ric responds that is only trying to keep the people of Port Charles safe.

At the PCPD, Ric informs Skye and Lucky that Luke is in custody and will be charged as an accessory to murder. Later, Ric tries to convince Luke to quit covering for Laura, but Luke refuses to cooperate. Lucky engages Alexis to represent Luke in court.  Alexis storms into the interrogation room and warns Ric that she will sue the PCPD for violating Luke's rights, Alexis is stunned when Ric declares that Luke has already voluntarily offered a full confession to murdering Police Detective Ross Duncan! Later, Ric reminds a wavering Skye that Laura appears to have made several attempts to victimize Skye, but Lucky urges Skye to believe that Laura would never hurt Skye! Ric threatens to charge Lucky with obstruction of justice and attempting to tamper with a witness.

Meanwhile, Luke confides to Alexis that he is afraid that Laura did murder Ross but that there is also the possibility that all of the situation involving Duncan's death is all an elaborate set-up to frame Laura. Luke further confides that, when he went to the Institution to check on Laura, he discovered that Laura apparently walked away from the hospital on her own! Luke refuses to tell Alexis where he believes that Laura might be hiding, but requests Alexis to help him get out of jail and also clear Lucky of any involvement. Alexis notices that Ric is placing Lucky under arrest and rushes into the squad room to warn Ric that he is, once again, violating her clients' rights. Ric and Alexis argue. Alexis asks Ric what he needs to drop the charges against Lucky. Ric declares that he wants Lucky to complete his leave of absence, and stay out of the Ross Duncan investigation. When Ric also declares that he needs someone to be responsible for Lucky's behavior, Alexis suggests that Emily would be able to do that. After Emily agrees that she will keep Lucky out of trouble, Ric releases Lucky. As Alexis tries to convince Ric to release Luke on bond, Ric refuses.

Luke calls Alexis to come to the police station to represent him. He asks Alexis to try and get him arraigned within the next hour or so. Alexis tells him that is not easy to do and that he can't expect to make bail given his track record of skipping bail in the past. He reminds her that she is a great lawyer who can do the job. Alexis runs into Ric and tells him that she will have no problem winning this case and that he shouldn't expect a trial to happen.  Later, at the courthouse, Luke is brought out of the courtroom in handcuffs after being denied bail. Alexis and Ric leave Luke with a uniformed cop to escort him. Luke sees Skye and gives her a nod to let her know he is ready for their plan. Skye hides a steel wrench with a bouquet of flowers and walks toward Luke. She waits until the cop's head is turned and hits him with the wrench hard enough to knock him down. She takes the cop's set of keys and finds the key to unlock Luke's handcuffs. Luke takes the cop's gun and they start to run off when the cop comes to and takes a gun out of his pant leg and aims it at Luke. Luke takes the gun he stole from the cop and aims it at Skye and warns the cop to back off or he will shoot the lady and tells him she is now his hostage. The cop lets them go. Ric and Alexis come out of the courtroom and find the cop grabbing at his head in pain from being hit and ask him what happened to Luke. The cop explains what happened and describes Skye to Ric. Ric calls the police station and orders an APB on both Luke and Skye.

Alexis and Ric continued their verbal sparring but were interrupted when Tracy arrived. Privately, Tracy showed him the incriminating pictures of Skye and the late Det. Duncan. Skye was picked up and brought into the police station, and Alexis tried to find out from her where Luke had gone. Ric pointed out evidence that showed Skye had visited Laura's sanitarium in Montreal three times in recent months. She admitted that she had done so because of Laura's place in Luke's life. Ric theorized that Skye had kidnapped Laura and collected some of her hair for DNA purposes, framing Laura for the murder and making it look like Laura was framing her. Ric told Skye he would have no trouble using her past diabolical ways against her in the case. Ric then showed her the pictures that Tracy had handed over and placed her under arrest for the murder of Ross Duncan.

Ric places Skye under arrest for Ross's murder, and then later eavesdrops on her conversation with Alexis. Alexis clearly tells Skye that she does not like her, but is willing to help her because she knows that Skye is innocent and being railroaded by Ric. Ric continues to enjoy his flirtatious game with Alexis, and later asks her for a drink. She refuses and demands he get a hearing for Skye immediately. After the hearing proves successful for her, Alexis prepares to have Skye released on bail. Skye shocks her when she states she's staying in prison because she's safer there than home. Alexis enlists Jax's help with Skye, but can't escape Ric's pestering. He challenges her again to a social drink in order to help their work relationship, and finally Alexis agrees to have dinner with Ric, but remains suspicious. Ric taunts her, and gets her to drink a lot of wine. Once she's sufficiently soused, he begins to ask her about Sonny. Although she refuses to speak of him at first, she begins to open up, and admits that she doesn't completely regret the night she shared with Sonny. Ric and Alexis then share a dance, and Alexis ends up drunk. Unable to drive herself, she allows Ric to take her home, but warns him to behave.

A very hung-over Alexis awakens on her couch when Kristina begins playing in the living room. Kristina's Nanny informs Alexis that Mr. Lansing brought her home a bit smashed the previous evening and left her a note. Alexis is appalled when she realizes that Ric's note informs her that Skye's second bail hearing has been called for 9 A.M. that morning! Ric is left waiting at the courthouse as Alexis rushes to get ready. Although Skye protests her innocence, Ric is surprised when Lucky goes to Ric with a letter from Luke, which alleges that Luke now believes that Skye set Lucky and Luke up.

As Alexis rushes to leave for court, she is shocked to catch a news telecast of Ric's announcement that new evidence has surfaced in the case against Skye. Alexis grows even more concerned when she realizes that Ric has a hickey! When Alexis arrives at court, she assures a troubled Skye that Luke's letter will not be admissible and that Skye has nothing to worry about. When Alexis corners Ric and begins quizzing him about the events of the previous evening, Ric is smugly evasive but insists that he would never have taken advantage of Alexis in her inebriated state, if that is what is worrying Alexis. Later, Alexis is surprised when Skye announces that she has changed her mind and now wants to be released on bail because she cannot stand another night locked up.

Alexis and Ric engage in a muffled conversation about their 'relationship," which Alexis claims they do not have! Alexis is horrified when Ric gleefully points out that she is wearing mismatched shoes! As court convenes, Ric argues that Skye was the one who took Laura out of the institution because Skye believed Laura was a rival for Luke's affection. He continues by suggesting that Laura escaped from Skye and is currently with Luke. Ric makes note of the letter that Luke left with Lucky, claiming that Laura and Luke are now together and that Skye set them all up. Ric moves that Skye be charged with murder and held without bail. Alexis argues that Skye is the one being victimized and succeeds in having Skye released on bail in Alan's custody. Afterwards, Alexis catches up again with Ric and demands to know what happened between them the previous evening, all the while, attempting to sneak a surreptitious look at the mark on Ric's neck. But Ric smugly hints that Alexis will be able to remember the details of the evening if she puts her mind to it. Later, when Alexis returns home, she remembers Ric bringing her home and that Alexis made a drunken pass at Ric, but that Ric walked away. When Alexis lies down, she suddenly has a vision of herself pulling Ric back into a steamy embrace. An astonished Alexis jumps back up, wide-awake now!

Reporters at Courtney’s charity event interview Ric, he insists his office has investigated the foundation and that it was indeed legitimate. Tracy warned him that her family could be very influential where his job was concerned and compared him to his brother, calling him a thug with a law degree. Ric found time to antagonize Sonny, and then, seeing Ric and Alexis together, Sonny warned her that he would have her disbarred if she ever revealed anything to Ric that she learned while working as Sonny's attorney. He also said that she and Ric were perfect together, educated and full of themselves. When Ric and Alexis were speaking privately, she said she had some understanding of him since they were both unwanted children. He asked if she was trying to stay close to Sonny or to him.

Alexis continues to be annoyed by Ric when he tells her that he could be her dream come true. She tries to get away from him by talking to Ned, but Ned figures her out immediately. He questions her relationship with Ric, and she denies having one, but he sees through her and voices his disgust. He leaves, and Ric returns to offer her a ride home. She declines, but he challenges her, and she ends up allowing him to take her home. At her door, he tells her that she is afraid of him, and she agrees, but tells him she does not have feelings for him. In order to prove that he has no affect on her, she promptly kisses him.  Ric and Alexis come out of their kiss a bit shaken by the experience. Sensing its affect on Alexis, a scheming Ric decides to use it to his advantage. When Alexis calls him later, he pretends he's with another woman just to get a rise out of her. Emily leaves Alexis speechless when she breaks the shocking news that Nikolas is alive, but pleads with her not to tell Helena just yet.

When they are alone together in the courtroom, Ric "confesses" to Alexis that he believes he might have left his key at her place: "Which isn't surprising, considering what happened between us!" Alexis pretends that she did not see Ric's key but, when Ric hints that, because Alexis has his key, Alexis also has 24 hour access to Ric's apartment, Alexis promises to ask her housekeeper to look for the key! When Ric admits that his super let him in this morning, Alexis asks why Ric did not miss the key until the morning? Ric hints that he spent the night with "a friend." When Alexis denies having spoken to Ric's "friend" the previous evening, Ric points out that Alexis' number showed up on his cell phone caller ID, which Ric's "friend" answered. When Alexis tries to avoid admitting that she called Ric the previous evening, Ric suggests that Alexis was checking up on him because she was jealous!

When Ric suggests the he could just as easily have spent the evening with Alexis, Alexis reminds Ric that she despises him! As Alexis storms away, she bumps into Lucky entering the building. When Lucky arrives in court, he demands to know if Ric is really trying to send Skye to jail or just pursuing a personal agenda with Alexis! Later, when Skye arrives late for court, Alexis blasts her client for the delay. Skye is shocked when Ric recommends that Skye be held without bail until the case comes to trial. Although Alexis objects, the Judge announces the trial will begin June 24 and Skye urges Alexis to accept the new trial date. After court is dismissed, Ric approaches Alexis and urges her to convince Skye to take the deal that Ric is about to offer her.

Meanwhile, Skye tries to convince Lucky that the letter from Luke accusing Skye of being responsible for Ross Duncan's death must be a forgery because it is out of character for Luke to deal with serious issues by letter. However, Lucky refuses to listen to Skye. At the same time, Alexis is appalled when Ric offers a fifteen-year term for second-degree murder and Alexis reaffirms her conviction that she will be able to get Skye acquitted. Ric reminds Alexis that fifteen years is better than the death penalty! Later, Lucky reminds Ric that it is important to put Skye away and Ric admits that he offered Skye a deal that will put Skye away, but not necessarily for life. Skye informs Alexis that she flatly refuses to agree to a plea bargain and tries to convince Alexis that too many things are not adding up in this case especially Luke's so-called letter. Skye goes on to outline her belief that something may have happened to Luke.

Alexis unexpectedly walks in on Nikolas and Emily at Wyndemere (he still has no memory of being Nikolas) and, when Alexis sees Nikolas standing beside the fireplace, she calls Nikolas by name. Nikolas is startled by Alexis's assumption that he is Nikolas. Emily quickly introduces Nikolas to Alexis as "Connor" and explains to "Connor" that Alexis is her 'late' fiancé's aunt. Alexis covers by claiming that her nephew often stood beside the fireplace in the same way that "Connor" was standing. Emily asks Nikolas to go look for her cell phone. As soon as Nikolas leaves the room, Alexis asks Emily if she is positive that the best thing for Nikolas is to continue to conceal the truth from him. Emily describes the way Nikolas has experienced memories of the hotel fire and urges Alexis to believe that Nikolas's memory is returning but all on its own! Alexis agrees to go along with Emily's decision, just as Nikolas returns. Alexis invites Nikolas to feel free to come back to Wyndemere any time, and leaves.

Ric arrives at the Cellar and spots Justus and Jen together. When Justus explains that they are on a date, Ric suggests that it looks more like collusion going on between Sonny and Courtney's Children's Foundation! Justus warns Ric not to try to come after Sonny through a Children's Foundation and Ric counters by warning Jen to be wary of keeping company with gangsters! Later, when Alexis arrives at The Cellar and finds Ric already there, she accuses him of following her around. However, Ric cheerfully reminds Alexis that she was the one who got smashed and made a pass at Ric! Alexis orders Ric to leave, but he doesn't go very far.

Shortly afterward, Carly arrives and, when Carly spots Faith, Carly orders Faith to leave. When Faith refuses to go, Ric suggests that Alexis should get her client under control. However, Alexis reminds Ric that, technically, Faith is no longer her client. When Faith warns Carly that "Big Daddy's money and power" will not be at Carly's disposal much longer, Carly suddenly demands to know what Faith has done to Sonny. Faith angrily pushes Carly and Carly pulls back and slugs Faith in the jaw! Just as Ric and Alexis get up to intervene in the fight, Faith falls backwards and hits her head on the bar rail. When Ric rushes to Faith's side, he commands Alexis to call 9-1-1, because Faith is not breathing! Faith comes to before the ambulance arrives. Ric tells Faith that the ambulance will be there soon to take her to General Hospital and he will handle everything.

Ric approaches Carly and tells her he can have charges brought against her for aggravated assault. Alexis interrupts him and accuses him of trying to railroad Carly for personal reasons. She tells Ric that he doesn't have a case against Carly since Faith provoked her by attacking her first. Carly tells Ric that she has a roomful of witnesses that will be ready to testify that Faith attacked her first and she was only defending herself. Ric tells Alexis that he is going to go to G.H. and wait for Faith to recover and ask her if she wants to charge Carly for assault. Alexis tells him that he is more than likely going to coerce Faith into charging Carly. Carly asks Alexis why she is defending her. Alexis tells her that she is just making sure that her rights are being protected and that she doesn't want Ric to think he can use his office to prosecute innocent people because of a personal grudge. Carly allows her to act as her lawyer.

Ric & Alexis 1B DVD- They all go to the hospital and go to Faith's room. Faith wonders why they are all there looking at her. Ric asks her if she would like to press assault charges against Carly. Alexis warns Ric that he is using his influence to persuade Faith to press charges when she provoked the fight against Carly. Faith looks right at Carly and tells Ric that she would love to press charges against Carly. Ric is pleased with the news until he finds out that Faith has no intention of pressing charges against Carly. She tells Ric that she and Carly had a fight that she started and admits to attacking Carly first and that her head injury was nothing more than an accident. Ric isn't pleased and stalks off. Ric goes to a bar and finds Alexis sitting at a table doing some work. He asks her if she isn't stalking him like she accused him of doing to her. Ric sits down and has a drink with her. Alexis asks him why he is so hell-bent on getting revenge on Sonny. Ric admits that mostly it is about jealousy over Sonny. He elaborates about how his own mother chose Sonny over him when he was a baby and that his father seemed to think of Ric as a constant reminder of the fact that the woman and mother of his child chose Sonny over them. Alexis tells him she can relate to how he feels since she went through the same thing growing up, trying to please the parent that rejected them emotionally.

Ric offers to walk her home and she accepts his offer. They walk through the park and discuss what the meaning of love is. Ric goes on about how love has always been put into compartments for him. Ric turns around to say something else to Alexis when he stops in his tracks and just stares. Alexis turns around to see what he is looking at. Elizabeth approaches them, holding her new baby. Elizabeth had named him Cameron after Zander's father. Liz said that she was staying with her grandmother and after exchanging pleasantries left with the baby. Alexis told Ric that she thought there was still something between him and Elizabeth and that he shouldn't let his vendetta against Sonny ruin his life. After she left, Elizabeth returned alone and talked to Ric. She said that she missed him and wondered if anything was going on between him and Alexis. He told her it was just work. Discussing getting back together, Liz said she didn't think they should go there.

Skye's murder trial begins. Ric makes his opening remarks then calls Jax as his first witness. Jax is evasive on the stand, reluctant to paint his ex-wife in a bad light with the jurors. Ric tries to get Jax to tell him if Skye told him she killed Ross Duncan or not. Jax looks over at Skye and tries to avoid answering without explaining the circumstances. Ric demands a yes or no answer only. Alexis pipes in with objections and accuses Ric of badgering the witness. The judge denies her objections. Ric keeps at it so Alexis keeps objecting. Jax is finally forced to say yes to Ric's question to whether Skye told him she killed Duncan. The judge gets tired of the banter between Ric and Alexis and calls them to the bench. He tells them he is going to call for a recess after he dismisses Jax from the stand. The judge tells them to use the recess time to talk out their personal problems outside of court and come back and act professionally or he will hold them in contempt of court.

Ric calls Tracy to the stand. He spreads out some photos of Skye with the dead body that Tracey took. Alexis objects to the admittance of the photos since they were not presented before trial. The judge over-rules her objection and allows the pictures and Tracey's testimony. Tracey acts like she loved Skye as her adopted niece until she found out she killed a cop and tried to hide the body and now she wants her to pay. The photos make Skye look even more guilty along with Tracey's testimony. Alexis calls Skye to the stand. She asks her about the night she was with Duncan. Skye admits she had a lot to drink and didn't remember killing anyone since she passed out and woke up next to the body. She tells the court that Luke persuaded her to hide the body until they found out who really killed Duncan. Ric cross-examines Skye and she admits that she is in love with Luke.

Ric and Alexis argue about who was acting more unprofessionally in court earlier. Faith approaches Ric and Alexis and demands protection since Sonny has already been shot at and she could be next. Suddenly shots are fired toward the three of them and they dive for cover. Afterwards, Faith accuses Sonny of being behind the attempted hit on her in broad daylight. Ric tells her she has many enemies and suggests she leave the country and hide out somewhere. Faith skulks off in a huff. Ric escorts Alexis to a bench and puts him arm around her and rubs her shoulder and asks her if she is all right. Alexis looks at his arm over her shoulder and he realizes how intimate that looks and lets go of her.

Alexis asked Lucky to take the stand for Skye, but he said he couldn't because of his belief that Skye had hurt Laura. Emily tried to get him to be more reasonable and left before he took the stand. Questioned by Ric, Lucky testified that he had indeed seen a blonde woman with a knife in the park, approaching Skye, but he didn't go along with Ric's accusations about Skye. When he really started thinking about it, he truly did not believe that Skye was guilty, and this was evident when Alexis cross-examined him. After court adjourned, Ric told Alexis he would still win the case with his closing argument. Alexis told Emily how hurt Lucky seemed about Nikolas' supposed death.

Skye and Alexis prepare to head to court for the final day of Skye's trial. As they leave, Heather breaks into Skye's house and angrily breaks a picture of Skye and Luke. Heather remembers murdering Ross and later holding Skye captive, and angrily continues to plot. Back at the courthouse, Alexis and Ric give closing arguments, and Skye waits anxiously for the jury to decide her fate. She's stunned when they come back almost immediately with a verdict. They are all devastated when the jury returns a guilty verdict. Alexis promises Skye to begin immediate appeals that Jax will fund. Skye ruefully warns Ric that, by sending an innocent woman to prison for Ross Duncan's murder, Ric is allowing the real killer to go free. Ric tries to convince Skye to show enough remorse at the sentencing hearing to get a lighter sentence. Alexis arrives and reminds Ric that she plans to begin an appeal right away. After Ric leaves, Alexis promises a gloomy Skye that Alexis will get Skye out of jail soon, and reports that Emily, Lucky, Edward and Alan have expressed their determination to clear Skye's name.

Skye's sentencing hearing takes place at the courthouse. The judge asks Ric if the state is planning to seek the death penalty for Skye. Ric looks over at Alexis and Skye and tells the judge that the state asks for a minimum of 20 years to life in prison. Skye agrees to say a few words to the judge on her own behalf before sentencing. She tells the judge that she didn't murder the cop or frame Laura and that she believes someone else framed her. She apologizes for trying to hide the murder victim and make it look like he was alive still but claims she is innocent and pleads with the judge to set aside the guilty verdict. The judge doesn't set aside the verdict and sentences Skye to 20 years in prison at Pentonville. Alexis tells her she will work on an appeal still to get her out.

Lois also meets Ric and finds out he is Sonny's estranged half-brother. Alexis downplays the importance of her one-night stand with Sonny. Alexis tries to hide her alarm also when Lois mentions that Alexis' daughter Kristina is her daughter Brook Lyn's half-sister since Ned is the father of both. Later, Alexis and Ric end up in the same elevator. Alexis accuses Ric of following her again. He denies it and accuses her of being obsessed with him. Alexis stops the elevator to tell him off. They soon realize the elevator is stuck and they are trapped in there together. Alexis and Ric continued to bicker. She grabbed his briefcase and threw it into the elevator control panel, to try to get the panel functional again. All she managed to do, though, was toss Ric's documents all around the elevator.

When she was on the floor picking them up, Ric realized that Kristina's paternity test was among the papers. Not knowing what to do, he attacked Alexis with a kiss and gave the excuse it was just to shut her up. When the elevator moved again, the two were jolted into each other's arms, a position seen by reporters when the elevator doors opened. Reporters asked if they had been having an affair during Skye's trial. Later, Alexis had an appointment for Kristina to see the pediatrician at GH. She ran into Ric again, and another sparring match ensued, allowing Kristina to wander around the corner of the corridor where Sonny was looking through the window of the nursery. Sonny helped her to look at the babies, and Alexis was taken aback when she turned the corner and saw Kristina with her biological father!

Ric tells Alexis that he postponed a hearing they were to attend for a couple of days so that she could be around Kristina and help her and the Quartermaines deal with the loss of Lila. Alexis tells him that Kristina hardly remembers Lila since she was an infant when she was living with the Quartermaines. Ric tells her that he thought she would want to be there at least for Ned. Alexis warns him to stay out of her personal business and act more professional and storms off. Later, she apologizes if she came across as unsympathetic. She dismisses Ric and he takes out a piece of paper and frowns toward where Alexis went.

Alexis interrupts Nik as he is talking to Alcazar (Nik has since found out the truth about his real identity). She insists that Nikolas is trusting the wrong person! Alexis enlightens Nikolas about the many times that Lorenzo threatened Nikolas's life because the Cassadine family owed Lorenzo a staggering amount of money. Lorenzo pleads that that matter is old business and the debt has been settled. After reminding Alexis of her own experiences with murder, Lorenzo abruptly leaves so that Alexis can speak to Nikolas alone. Alexis tries to explain to Nikolas that his Uncle Stefan raised him, after Nikolas's mother, Laura, left Nikolas in Greece with Stefan. Alexis tries to explain what his friendships once meant to Nikolas but Nikolas finds it difficult to believe Alexis. Alexis informs Nikolas that he was the soul and conscience for the Cassadine family in much the same way that Emily became the soul and conscience for the Quartermaine family. Nikolas confides that he is beginning to realize why he loved Emily!

As Sonny heads out the door, Ric, demanding to know where Jason is hiding out with Sam, meets him! When Sonny claims he knows nothing, Ric reminds Sonny that Jason never makes a move without Sonny's orders and that Ric suspects Sonny and Jason of aiding and abetting a fugitive. When Sonny reminds Ric of Ric's past transgressions where Carly is concerned, Michael suddenly bursts into the room and demands to know where his mother is accusing Ric of, once again, being responsible for his mother's disappearance! Ric is suddenly suspicious when he discovers that Carly is missing again. When Ric suddenly offers to file a missing persons report on Carly, Sonny insists that he will be able to handle everything himself and orders Max to escort Ric out of the building.

As Ric stops in the park to make a cell phone call to his office, he spots Carly and tries to convince Carly to get in touch with her family, and spills the news that Jason has disappeared, along with Sam. As Ric fishes for a tidbit of information, Alexis passes through the park and overhears Ric quizzing Carly. After Carly leaves, Ric calls his office to order more surveillance of the Corinthos family, so they can catch Sonny aiding and abetting Sam then he spots Alexis watching him from the woods. When Alexis blasts Ric for being obsessed with Sonny, Ric counters with the accusation that Alexis was wrong about Sonny and now it is Alexis who is obsessed with being unable to admit just how wrong she really was.

As Ric turns to leave, Alexis asks him to stay. Alexis insists that she only wanted to give Ric some pointers on handling Sonny. Ric tries to explain that he is only motivated by concern for the welfare of Samantha's child, they slyly offers his sympathy for any child who is growing up in Sonny's violence-ridden world! When Alexis almost agrees with him, Ric suddenly asks Alexis to have dinner with him. Alexis is surprised when Ric suggests that they have dinner in New York or Montreal, to get completely away from the distractions of Port Charles. Ric is likewise stunned when Alexis agrees to think about it.

At the safe house, Ric and uniformed police officers break down the door and Ric informs Sam that she is under arrest. Sam tells him that she wants to talk to him alone if he won't let her call anyone. Ric refuses to let her talk at first until she threatens to scream if he doesn't hear her out. He takes her into the interrogation room. Sam tells him that Sonny is her baby's real father not Jason, who agreed to cover it up by switching the DNA tests at the hospital. Ric doesn't believe her and tells her it doesn't really matter who the baby's father is she is still going to have her baby in prison. Sam insists she is telling the truth about Sonny being the baby's father.

Max knocks on the door and tells Sonny he has a call on his cell-phone from Ric. He takes the call reluctantly. Ric tells him he found Sam and has arrested her and has plans to extradite her back to North Carolina later that day and advises him to come see her. After Sonny ends the call, he demands that Max immediately changes that cell phone number! Carly goes to pay Alexis a visit. Alexis asks her what she wants. Carly informs her that she is going to tell Sonny that Kristina is his daughter because Sonny just told her that Sam is carrying his child and she needs to come clean with him about what she knows if they have a chance to start over without any more lies. Alexis panics when she sees how determined Carly is to tell Sonny about Kristina. Alexis tells her that she can't do that to Kristina and that Sonny will file for custody of Kristina and the press will hear about it and Kristina will be plastered all over the papers. Carly tries to reassure her that Sonny will protect Kristina. Alexis doesn't care and tells Carly she doesn't want her daughter raised around thugs who could use her daughter to retaliate against Sonny. She pleads with Carly to protect Kristina and not tell Sonny and reminds her that she is a mother also and should protect her children and put them before everyone else. Carly doesn't give her an answer and leaves.

Sonny arrives at the police station and asks Ric what he is up to. Ric tells him that Sam is going to be extradited back to North Carolina. Sonny shows up later at Alexis' apartment. Alexis answers the door with Kristina in her arms. Alexis panics a little when she sees Sonny. She asks him what he came over for. He tells her this concerns the mother of his child. Ric comes back into the interrogation room and tells Sam that he didn't just luck out and find her since she was in a half-way house. He tells her that Carly was the one who told him where she was hiding. Alexis is relieved that Sonny had come to hire her to represent Sam. She turned him down at first. Sonny admitted he was trying to take care of Sam and the baby since Sam hadn't lied to him or tried to keep him from his baby. Sonny asked Alexis if she was afraid to go up against Ric.

At the police station, Ric told Sam that Carly gave up the safe house location. He also said that Sonny might protect the child she was carrying but not her. Later, Justus informed Ric that Sam had new representation.  Later, Alexis entered the police station and told Ric she was Sam's new attorney. Ric commented that she and Sam had a lot in common, one of Sonny's mistresses representing another. Sonny let Sam know about her new attorney. Alexis filed a motion to keep Sam from being immediately sent to Bailey's Beach. Ric told Sonny to thank Carly for her help in apprehending Sam. Sam questioned Alexis about her motives for taking the case. Sam is given an extradition hearing, but despite Alexis's protests, the judge arrives immediately to make his decision.

While Alexis pleads for time to prepare, Ric decides to act out and declares the meeting a ploy for Alexis to be able to get close to him. Alexis is incredulous, and the two begin to argue. The judge silences them, and quickly rules that Sam is taken back to South Carolina. Sam pleads for her child's sake, but it falls on deaf ears. Back in the interrogation room, Alexis promises to appeal the extradition, but Sam simply begs for her to contact Sonny. When Alexis quietly lets Sam know that she already did, Sam is not put off, and demands she call him again. Alexis warns her that she might lose her child to Sonny if she continues to hold so tightly to him, but Sam refuses to listen. As the guards handcuff her, and prepare to take her away, Sam suddenly gasps in pain and faints.  Sam is rushed to the hospital.

Ric interrupts Carly and Sonny, to let Sonny know that the baby might be in danger. They rush to the hospital where Sam privately admits to them that she's faking it to avoid extradition. Alexis visits Sam at GH. She tells her she is doing everything she can to postpone the extradition. Sam isn't too convinced that Alexis can handle going up against Ric after how they behaved in the judge's office the other day. Alexis warns Sam that Sonny may only be willing to help her prove her innocence so he can get full custody of the baby. Sam defends Sonny and tells Alexis she has no problem with Sonny being involved in his daughter's life. Alexis tells Sam that Sonny's lifestyle isn't safe for their daughter to be raised in but Sam refuses to believe Sonny can't protect his children from harm.

Ric badgers Courtney at GH to tell him who shot Jax. Courtney refuses to tell him who shot Jax unless Jax decides to tell him himself, which he isn't. Sonny gets off the elevator and sees Ric harassing Courtney about Jax's shooting. He tells Ric to leave Courtney alone. Ric tells Courtney that if she doesn't tell him who shot Jax, he will make sure Sam is extradited back to North Carolina as soon as possible. Sonny tells Ric that he can't make decisions for Courtney. Courtney refuses to tell Ric anything. Sonny tells Ric to get a warrant next time before harassing Courtney. Ric storms off.

Ric runs into Alexis at the elevators at GH. He refuses to get on the elevator with her and accuses her of mauling him the last time they were on an elevator together. Alexis is appalled by his accusation and tells him that she would never admit being attracted to him under any circumstances and that she doesn't care what Sonny thinks about the two of them. She storms onto the elevator. Ric pretends to get on with her but she tells him to stay off her elevator. Ric finds himself enjoying her.

Sonny leaves Sam's room only to have another run-in with Ric. He asks Ric what he wants and why he hates him so much that he would try to harm Sam and their unborn child. Alexis gets off the elevator and approaches them. She informs them that she just got off the phone with some judge from Texas who informed her that some death row inmate confessed to the arson and murder of Sam's mother and that she is going to go tell Sam the good news. Ric accuses Sonny of having something to do with it but Sonny denies it and tries to hide his smirk when Ric storms off.

Sonny ran into little Kristina outside of Kelly's after she had run outside from the babysitter. Alexis was surprised to arrive and see her daughter in Sonny's arms. Once the babysitter and the child left, Sonny, seeing that Alexis was agitated, joked that he wasn't planning on stealing "her", finally cluing Alexis in on the fact that he was speaking of stealing the nanny for Sam and her baby. Alexis asked Sonny if he arranged the confession that exonerated Sam, and he gave his word that he had not.

Ric approached Carly at the hospital, trying to pit her against Sam, and attempting to learn if the confession of the inmate on death row was a fake. Carly said she would help, and she went to Sam's room and asked questions about the confession. However, Sonny interrupted. Later, Sonny asked if he could be alone with Sam to discuss some things, so Carly left. In the corridor, she opened her purse and pulled out a tape recorder that she had been using inside the room. Sonny tried to learn from Sam who really set the fire, but she would not give him any information until she was officially cleared of the charges.

At the courthouse, Alexis tried to convince Ric that Sonny had told her the truth about the confession. Ric said she was mistaken to think that Sonny had any respect for her or would tell her the truth! Later, Carly found Ric alone and played him the tape. He heard Sam's voice talking about how she was glad the real arsonist had come forward. Ric asked Carly if Sam could have conned her, and Carly said no. Ric swore that he was going to learn the truth, and he advised Alexis to remove herself from the case to keep from getting charged with obstruction of justice along with Sonny.

Ric shows up demands to see Sam. Max stands by the door to protect Sam. Sam tells Max that she will be fine to talk to Ric alone. Ric tells her that he is re-opening her case again and that he will get proof that the death-row inmate lied and who's family was paid off by Jason and Sonny in return. Ric surprises Sam when he tells her he has met her brother Danny and that he gets the impression that Danny always tells the truth and that he plans on finding out where Jason is hiding him and will bring him in to testify.

At Sam's trial, Ric accuses Sonny of buying a confession from a death row inmate to save Sam from going to jail. Alexis, however, gives a killer argument and gets Sam's conviction overturned. She later overhears a Sonny admitting that Ric was right on the money with his theory. Ric and Alexis decide to prove that Sonny lied under oath at Sam's trial. Ric learns of Sam's brother, Danny, and goes to the bike shop to confront him for himself. Alexis and Ric agree to team up to destroy Sonny and send him to prison.

Alcazar calls Ric on his cell-phone and informs him that Faith will be returning to Port Charles and that she will be on the pier at 10 p.m. and that Sonny and Jason will probably be there waiting for her. When Ric gets off the phone he finds Sam there. Sam walks up to him and tells him she set the fire with the intention of killing her mother just as Jason walks in moments later and hears her false confession. Sonny arrived at the police station. When Sam noticed him, Alexis informed her that it was too late. Ric let his brother know that Sam's confession was on tape, and Sonny asked, in the name of their mother, for Ric to leave with him. Ric agreed but first went to Mac regarding what he knew about the plans against Faith. Assuming Sonny wanted Ric with him as an alibi, Ric played along while Mac got the police ready. Sonny took Ric to the safe house to speak to Danny. They learned that Danny had knocked over lit candles at his mother's house, starting the fire. Knowing Sam had not committed the crime, Ric handed Sam's taped confession over to Sonny, who destroyed it. For once, it seemed as though the brothers were working together.

Carly warned Alexis to use whatever influence she has to get Ric to drop the charges or she'll tell Sonny about Kristina. Alexis was still fuming over Sonny lying to her and urged Carly to go ahead and tell the truth. She said she just wants Sonny behind bars. Carly reminded her that Kristina's safety would be at risk, the world would know, and Sonny could still get visitation from prison. Alexis promised to give the matter her due diligence. Ric was feeling good about Sonny telling him the truth about Sam and Danny when Mac called Ric to tell him about the yacht. Ric quickly turned on Sonny and accused him of setting him up. They argued and Sonny beseeched him to not use Faith as an excuse to sell out Sam and her brother. Ric agreed not to arrest Danny or go after Sam and to let the confession in Texas stand. He did, however, threaten to send Sonny to prison if he was the one who killed Faith.

Ric went to the police station and talked to Mac about Jason not getting bail tonight. He also told Sam she was free to go and promised to not go after Danny. Sam was curious, but he said he can't save his own brother so instead, he'll save hers. Ric and Alexis argued about whether Sonny knew about the boat and used Ric as an alibi. She urged him to stop letting his personal issues with Sonny get in the way of his professional judgment. He accused her of the same just as Sonny came in, asking for a favor in getting her to help Jason. Alexis wondered how to play it and if PCPD was typically inept and if he was playing hero or just being his innocent self and then commented on his nerve on asking for a favor after lying to her about the false confession. She pointed her finger at him and warned him she would not be doing him any favors again.

Sonny, Alexis, Ric, Jason, and Carly are all gathered in a heated discussion at the police station when a waterlogged Faith is dragged in, very much alive. Ric questions her motives for running from the scene of the explosion, and Alcazar arrives in time to hear Faith say that she blew up the yacht in order to escape Sonny's death threats. Ric promptly arrests Faith for shooting Jax. Out in the lobby, Alexis lashes out at Ric for setting her up to think Sonny was guilty, but Ric lets her know that he simply received a tip. Alexis warns him to not let his vendetta against his brother drive away everyone he cares about, and later, as Ric helps Alexis pick her files up off the floor, the two kiss.

Ric warned Justus that going against Sonny, by representing Faith, might get him killed. Ric was also concerned that the case might get thrown out because of the conflict. Sonny showed up and asked Ric to leave them alone. Ric tried to get Justus to turn over evidence about Sonny so that Sonny could be put behind bars. Justus informed him that he and Ric were not on the same side. Overhearing part of the conversation, Alexis revealed herself and added that perhaps Sonny deserved anything that Ric might have against him. Faith taunted Ric, saying that he would never beat Sonny.

Alexis warns Justus to steer clear of Sonny, and that Ric is justified in his crusade against his brother. Sonny arrives and informs them that Faith has been stabbed in her cell. Ric alludes that perhaps Sonny is behind it. Ric and Sonny continue to argue, and later Sonny is intrigued at seeing Alexis and Carly fighting outside of Kelly's. Sonny inquires about their argument, but the women cover that they are speaking about Kristina.

Ric continues to taunt Sonny about his children, prompting Sonny to issue a warning that Ric stay away from the Corinthos kids or else Sonny will kill him. Ric replies that Sonny is the only danger to his children, and that he'll make it his mission to put Sonny in prison in order to save the kids. Carly attempts to defend Sonny, but he grabs her arm and they leave. Alexis walks up and asks Ric if he really thinks Sonny's children will be safer with him behind bars. Ric and Alexis continue to discuss the situation over lunch at Kelly's, and Ric assures Alexis that all of Sonny's children will be far safer with Sonny put away. (This is the beginning of a cute scene as Ric, Alexis, and Kristina are eating together at Kelly's. There wasn't room on the master edit to fit in this whole sequence of scenes so only the beginning of this sequence is included on this edit. This is continued on the Ric & Alexis #2 edit).
