At the PD, Alexis walks into Mac's office looking for him. She finds Sonny with Dara. Sonny says to Alexis that she is late. Alexis asks what is going on? Dara informs Alexis that she is questioning Sonny and suggests that Alexis wait in the hall for Mac. The door is open and Dara comments for the record that Sonny doesn't have legal representation. He responds, "Apparently not." Alexis lingers in the doorway talking to a police officer. She can't help herself and interrupts Dara's questioning to tell Sonny he doesn't have to answer a particular question. Dara reminds Alexis that this is a private and matter and asks her to please leave. Alexis asks Sonny for $1. He says he only has a $100 bill and is that okay? She grins and takes it. She then says she is on retainer and launches into Dara's violation of Sonny's civil rights and the possibility of suing the PCPD. Mac enters and says he is going to investigate the breaking and entering of his office! Dara explains that her office is being painted and Sonny is allergic to the paint fumes. Sonny adds that it interferes with his ability to tell the difference between Alfredo and pesto sauce. He refers to Alexis as his "mouthpiece" to which she responds by throwing him a dirty look. Dara and Alexis argue, Mac interrupts them and tells them to both be quiet and he tells Sonny to wipe that silly grin off his face. Alexis tells Dara that the voluntary questioning is over and next time she better have a warrant. Outside, Sonny tells her how he loves how she defended his rights. She gives him back his $100 and says she isn't his mouthpiece and she never wants to see him again.
Dara calls Sonny in for questioning about Jason. He doesn't have an attorney, Alexis overhears the questioning begin and offers to represent him. She is on fire and blasts Dara for involving Sonny with no evidence, Sonny grins as she launches into them. Mac arrives and is grumpy with Dara for using his office without his permission, Sonny's grin gets even bigger! He is very impressed with Alexis and wants her for his own attorney. She makes it clear she just helped him out this once and isn't planning on making this a permanent arrangement. The next day, Sonny arrives at Alexis' with flowers while Jax is still there. They stare each other down and Jax leaves. Sonny tells her he is there about her services and he wants to get to work. She wants to know why he is there. He suggests that she forgot their appointment. She asks if he thinks that his persistence is endearing? She tells him that she is NOT his attorney and she has returned his money. He asks if there were any witnesses to that refund and says no and grins at her that if she refuses to provide him counsel that she is in breach of something and he would have to sue her. She blasts him with both legal barrels letting him know that he has no legal grounds and that she is able to drop him as a client at any time. He says if he would have known he was going to get this kind of reception he would have bought cheaper flowers. He tells her that she owes Jason and Carly for getting Tony off with no punishment (on the charges for kidnapping Michael) as this sent Carly over the edge and she then shot Tony. Sonny tells her that if she wants to make amends to Michael that this is her chance. She says there is more to it than he knows. He figures someone either paid her a lot of money or blackmailed the daylights out of her into defending Tony (it was Helena). He says this tells him that she caves in when someone threatens her. She says she has learned not to give into threats as it just leads to more threats, her voice gets shaky. She goes on to say that he would know all about that being that threatening people is his specialty. He says only when necessary. She counters that if she helps Jason it won't be for Sonny. She tells him that Jason won't be charged with kidnapping as he is the legal parent, that the Q's are trying to scare Jason into returning to PC so they can demand the paternity blood test and prove that Jason isn't the biological father. She concludes that getting Carly back on Jason's side is his only chance and maybe Carly would be impressed with Sonny's ominous glances and his threats. Alexis reiterates that she is NOT Sonny's lawyer. He says yet but by the time this is finished she might be. Before he leaves, he warns her about doing business with Jax.
Jason is back. He is at the Brownstone. Sonny brings Alexis over. Alexis warns Sonny that his business better be legit as if the court gets any idea that Jason has returned to his former life of crime that he will have no chance at custody of Michael. At first, Jason refuses her assistance. He says he already has lawyers. Sonny advises him that he needs a criminal lawyer when dealing with the Q's and points out that Jason doesn't have to like her (he is still hostile over her getting Tony off). Jason says she is the enemy from the Tony Jones trial and why should he trust her? Bobbie comments that Alexis has no ethics and that is just what Jason needs. Alexis admits that she defended Tony as she gave into threats and she would like to make amends by helping Michael remain with the father that he loves. Jason says no thanks, this is the biggest fight of his life and he doesn't want to wonder whether she will get backed into a corner and turn on him. No thank you! Alexis promises him that the fight will get ugly and he has little chance of retaining custody and that it is unlikely the courts will choose the custodial parent over the biological one. She advises that his best chance is to gain visitation rights. As she goes to leave he reconsiders and asks her if she really wants this job. She says she would love do it.
At the Grille, Sonny comes in and informs Alexis that Jason is on his way to Bobbie's with Carly and AJ in hot pursuit. When Alexis rushes off to join them, Jax tells Sonny that he will use anything, even a baby.
Back at the Grille, Sonny tells Jason that he needs to expect to lose the battle with the Q's. Alexis arrives and tells them she has blocked the Q's temporarily from getting custody. She says they have already appealed the decision. She warns Jason that the courts will look at what the best environment is for Michael and Jason better only be involved in legitimate business. She says his only chance is on the grounds that he is best for Michael emotionally. After Alexis leaves, Sonny warns Jason that Moreno is sniffing around the warehouse as he doesn't believe it is clean and all the Q's have to do is show that Jason is a danger to Michael.
: Alexis and Jax are at one table at the grille, and at another table in the restaurant, Sonny and Jason are meeting with one of their investors trying to convince him to sign on so that he can receive his coffee from them. As they are just about to finalize the deal, Taggert cheerfully walks up and reports to Sonny that his coffee warehouse is in the process of burning down to the ground.
Taggert seems disappointed when Sonny and Jason are not very upset about the news that their warehouse is burning to the ground. He explains to the third person at the table that the warehouse and everything in it is a total loss. He goes on to explain that Sonny and Jason have lots of enemies because they are two of the biggest racketeers on the east coast. The man gets very flustered saying he didn't know any of this and makes a hasty exit. Taggert asks Sonny and Jason how much they were going to make off the deal that he just ruined. Alexis walks up and says that they were going to make about a third of what she would advise them to sue Taggert and the city for. While Sonny and Jason watch silently, Alexis tells Taggert that he deliberately intervened to the financial detriment of Sonny and Jason. Taggert insists it was purely a coincidence. Alexis says that there is no evidence against them. Taggert says he was just telling Sonny and Jason information he thought they might want. Sonny suggests that he and Jason go to the warehouse. Taggert says that he has a few questions first, but Alexis says that they don't have to answer. Taggert concedes defeat and says that he will see them at the warehouse. Alexis says that she is going too and excuses herself to go explain things to Jax. After she leaves, Sonny asks Jason if he thinks Moreno is behind the fire. Jason says that they can't say anything because of Michael. Sonny says that they will say it was an accident. The insurance company will like that better anyway.
Alexis apologizes to Jax for volunteering her legal services to Sonny and Jason. She didn't intend to do it, it just happened. Jax says that people around Sonny seem to say that a lot. Alexis says that justice only counts if it extends to the scum of the earth. Jax says that justice only counts if it puts a wall between him and Alexis. Alexis asks Jax if he happens to know who started the fire. Jax says that Sonny and Jason probably started it themselves.
At the warehouse, Sonny and Jason are angry because the warehouse and everything in it has been totally destroyed. Nothing was saved. Not one pound of beans, not one file cabinet. Taggert walks up saying that it looks like someone was trying to send the new businessmen a message. Moreno maybe? Sonny says that he has been out of town. He hasn't kept up on these things. Taggert says that Sonny being back in town is what made Moreno nervous. Taggert says that Sonny was supposed to be out of town and Jason was supposed to be retired, but here they are, reunited like the temptations. He thinks maybe Moreno was trying to remind them of promises made. Jason asks Sonny if he knows this guy Moreno. Sonny says that he sells watches on the street when the weather isn't bad. Taggert gets angry when Sonny and Jason plead ignorance where Moreno is concerned. Sonny and Jason could give him something that would allow them to bring Moreno in, but instead they pretend like they know nothing and next week something of Moreno's will go up in smoke. AJ arrives and demands that Michael be released from Jason's care immediately. Alexis interrupts and says that this is not the time or the place for AJ to be discussing Michael's custody. Taggert agrees. AJ and Taggert start to argue, but Alexis interrupts saying that if AJ wants to discuss Michael, he should do it with her and not her client. As AJ and Alexis continue to argue, Carly arrives. She remains hidden, but breathes a sigh of relief when she see that Jason is unharmed. Sonny and Jason know that Moreno is behind the fire. Jason knew that something bad like this was coming. Jason is sorry that Sonny can't retaliate because of him. Sonny says that Moreno isn't worth it. He is a bug.
Alexis asks AJ if he really needs to be there. He has expressed his concern. He knows that Michael is safe. His tactics are very obvious. He came to try and provoke his brother. AJ says that he doesn't have to do anything to make Jason look bad. The way Jason chooses to live his life does if for him. He tells her that it looks like she picked the losing team again. When Alexis asks what he means by again, AJ asks how else she would explain Ned. As AJ leaves, Sonny asks if she put a frog down his shorts. Alexis says that she imagines AJ is on his way to see his attorney. She tells Jason and Sonny that if they are in the middle of a turf war, they need to leave her out. Jason says that he doesn't know what he is in the middle of. He just knows that he didn't start it and he does not intend to continue it. He asks her to please not quit on him now. Alexis says that there is no chance of that. AJ just made the mistake of gravely irritating her. Jason says that he knew AJ wanted to him to hit him. He wouldn't have, he doesn't think. As Jason leaves, Sonny convinces Alexis to let him give her a lift back to the hotel.
Back at the Grille, Jax notices Alexis arriving with Sonny. Sonny offers to but Alexis a drink, but she assures him that it isn't necessary. Sonny tells her that she has the makings of a tremendous asset to him both personally and professionally. Alexis tells Sonny that he isn't listening to a thing she is saying. Sonny innocently asks what she means. They are interrupted by Jax's arrival. Sonny tells Alexis that he will leave her to the tender mercies of Mr. Jacks whose business with her he hopes didn't burn down since the last time he saw him. Sonny tells Jax that Alexis is a gem and that he should learn to appreciate her.
Sonny and Jason have called Alexis to come over. They tell her that Tag was there questioning them about the fire. Alexis states again that she is NOT Sonny's attorney and is only Jason's attorney in the custody battle. They assure her that their business is legit and what prejudice does she have against coffee importers? Jason sadly comments that the arson attack is going to result in him losing Michael (AJ hired an arsonist to set the fire with this result intended). Alexis tells him that AJ will go to the courts with this information and they will be showing up at his door with a court order to for him to relinquish custody. Alexis points out that Jason could choose to exercise his prerogative as a father and take his son on an extended vacation and that this would be his last legal chance to do so.
Alexis arrives at the penthouse. She is delighted as she tells Jason that she has arranged for the court shrink to pay an unannounced home visit to the Q's today. Alexis tells Jason that she read the doctor's initial report and that the doctor was very impressed with the way Jason and Michael interacted. She suggests that Jason and Sonny drop by the Q's while the doctor is there. Sonny says that he knows someone who can get Jason into the Q's. At the Q's, Sonny has arrived for the board meeting with Jason and Alexis in tow. Edward demands to know why Jason is there given the restraining order. Jason explains that he is there for the board meeting. Edward says that since Jason sold his ELQ stock to Sonny, he no longer is allowed to attend the board meetings. Sonny gleefully explains that he sold the stock back to Jason. Alexis confirms that as of an hour ago, Jason owns 6% of ELQ stock which entitles him to attend any and all board meetings. Edward is furious, but Carly looks pleased. Edward "allows" Sonny and Jason to attend the meeting, but says that Jason is still not allowed to see Michael. Edward will not have Jason make Carly and AJ look bad. Sonny says that they just came there to do business. Ned suggests that they get down to it then. Jason asks Emily if she is OK. Emily says that she is worried about Michael. As Monica says that they are all worried, the doctor comes down the stairs with Carly and AJ who are apologizing for Michael's behavior. Apparently, the visit didn't go well. AJ explains that Michael is still getting used to the house. The doctor asks if AJ and Carly are engaging Michael in things that he likes to do. AJ and Carly say that Michael likes to take walks. As AJ and Carly continue to talk to the doctor, Emily comes down the stairs carrying Michael. AJ begs her not to do this, but Emily says that the doctor needs to know the truth. Michael is happy when Emily hands him to Jason. She says that what Michael likes isn't going for walks, it is being with Jason. Emily appears to be right as Michael and Jason interact wonderfully. The doctor watches as Jason explains what is going on to Michael. She asks if he always does that. Jason says that Michael understands more than he can tell them and he has a right to know what's going on in his own life. The doctor notes that Michael is focused and content with Jason. She tells AJ and Carly that that is what they should be working for. Michael hasn't stopped growing up just because the adults in his life haven't decided where he should do it. She thanks the family saying that it has been an informative afternoon. After she goes, AJ demands that Jason give him his son. Jason says that he is going to put Michael to bed and that if AJ doesn't like it, he can call the cops. Edward tells Sonny that the ELQ board meetings will be at the office from now on so that he and Jason in his house on a regular basis. Edward than accuses Alexis of using her relationship with Ned to obtain privileged information and passed it on to Sonny. Alexis protests, but Ned tells her not to bother because Edward won't believe her anyway. Sonny says that he expects Edward to keep him better informed of ELQ business in the future.
A couple of months later, Jason and Sonny have been taken in on suspicions of drug charges. Justus comes in, making sure Jason and Sonny have their attorneys. Mac advises Justus to step aside and let Dara handle this case, but Justus won’t. Alexis walks in asking, “Have you concocted the charges yet, or are you still in the brainstorming stage?” (Not shown on tape - Jason found drugs planted at the warehouse, cops come in after getting a tip, Jason takes off, passes the drugs off to Carly who flushes them). Sonny grins. The cops state their case for drug charges against Jason. She points out there were no drugs found, no witnesses. They report that they saw Jason running away from the warehouse which they feel proves his guilt. Again she points out there were no witnesses to his flight. She proceeds to tell them the files are incomplete and to release them immediately. She proceeds to poke holes in their case. She accuses them of waging a personal vendetta against Jason and preventing him from making his custody hearing. They aren't swayed by this argument. They say Sonny can go, but Jason stays. Sonny offers that if they need a body to hold in a cell that they can lock him up as he is the owner of the warehouse. Alexis goes to look for a judge who will listen to her. They have to get Jason out before the custody hearing. (This must work as in the next scene Jason is at his custody trial and Sonny has also been released. Trial and all of the custody storyline is shown on the Jason/Carly tapes so not shown here).
The next month Sonny is arrested again. Alexis reminds Jason once again that she is NOT Sonny's attorney. Jason says he knows but that she has helped Sonny before and he needed her now. She goes in and blasts Justus and Mac and demands to speak with Sonny. After the officers leave, Sonny smiles and says, "Damn your good!" She asks him if he is guilty of what they are accusing him of? She tells him that she doesn't need to know what the charges are but she wants to know if he is innocent. He says everybody is innocent until proven guilty. (He has been arrested over Marino's disappearance, conspiracy to commit murder). She says the way the law works is everyone is entitled to an attorney. She waits for some declaration from him of his innocence but he sits quiet. She tells him that she can't represent him this time and leaves. (Mostly its because Alexis is heavily involved in the beginning of the Mixed Married storyline and so wasn't available for scenes with Sonny!).
Its about three months later, Jax, Chloe, Ned, Alexis, Jerry and Bobbie are all having dinner at the Grille. As Sonny and Hannah sit down, Hannah asks why Jax is giving Sonny that look. Sonny says that it is just a study in mutual hatred and that it's nothing to worry about. Meanwhile, Jerry tells Jax not to let Sonny ruin his evening. Jax should channel all that energy into loving his new wife (Alexis). Bobbie suggests that they all call it a night since she and Jerry still have to drive up to the cabin. Jax refuses to let Sonny's presence spoil a perfectly good evening. He tells Bobbie and Jerry to go ahead to the cabin and to have a great time. As Jerry and Bobbie finally excuse themselves, Alexis tells Jax to listen to his brother and not let Sonny get to him. Jax is still outraged that Sonny is there, enjoying himself.
Sonny and Hannah make small talk while perusing the menus. They are interrupted by Chloe who stops by the table to say hello. Sonny politely introduces Hannah to Chloe. Jax is quick to rush over and pull Chloe away from Sonny's table. As Jax and Chloe walk away, Sonny sarcastically comments that he thought that Chloe was married to Ned. Jax turns and tells Sonny that that is his problem. He can't tell one woman from another. Woman are all the same to him. They are interchangeable. Jax turns to Chloe and apologizes for being rude, but tells her that she has no business with Sonny. Chloe points out that they are all on the same board. Sonny says that he didn't mean to interfere. As Jax and Chloe walk away, Sonny warns Chloe to be careful around Jax. When he tries to protect someone, they could end up driving off a cliff. Jax can't let the comment go and walks back to where Sonny is standing. He tells Sonny that at least he realizes Brenda is dead and isn't trying to resurrect her with a look a like. Jax turns to Hannah and tells her that every time Sonny takes her to bed he is thinking of Brenda. Sonny starts to protest, but Hannah angrily asks Jax who the hell he thinks he is. Ned and Alexis toy with the idea of interfering in the Jax/Sonny scuffle, but decide against it. They watch as the scene continues to unfold. Jax explains to Hannah that he has nothing against her. He hates what she represents to Sonny. Hannah tells Jax that she is sorry for his loss, but it has nothing to do with her or Sonny. She would appreciate it if Jax would just leave her alone. Chloe quietly suggests to Jax that it is time to return to their table and Jax reluctantly agrees. After Jax is gone, Hannah asks Sonny how he could stand there and listen to all those lies. Hannah tells Sonny that she doesn't want to be like Jax. She doesn't want to be afraid. She wants to move in with him tonight. Sonny is delighted. Chloe is shocked at the side of Jax that she saw that evening. She wants to know what Sonny did to invoke so much hostility in Jax. As Jax explains about Brenda's history with Sonny, some official looking men arrive and walk up to Sonny's table. They introduce themselves as FBI agents and inform Sonny that he in under arrest for violation of federal law. The foursome watches in shock as Sonny is handcuffed and read his rights. The FBI arrests Sonny for reco (a term implying organized crime). Jason telephones Benny and instructs him to clean up the office. The Mixed Marrieds bicker as to the true guilt of Sonny and Jason. Ned departs to inform his family of the news before they are clued in by the media and Alexis questions Jason for details. When Jason requests that Alexis defend Sonny, Jax becomes very angry. She gives Jason advice that if he is arrested what to do. He says he doesn't need her help but Sonny does and he wants her to defend Sonny. Jax retorts, "Like hell she will!" Jason talks Alexis into going to the PCPD to talk with Sonny. Alexis and Jason soon arrive and Alexis demands to speak with the arresting officers on behalf of her client, Sonny Corinthos.
Taggert refuses to interrupt the meeting, but after it disbands, Alexis procures the list of charges. Alexis talks with Sonny in private. He asks her since when did she become his lawyer? She says she is sorry and he can get someone else if he wants to. He replies no that she is the best. He asks her if she is in it till the end? She questions back whether he is innocent and reminds him that she will not represent someone who murders and commits assault. She clarifies that if this is a tax problem she will help but will not defend him for a violent crime. She warns him that this is serious as the FBI and police all want to put him away. Mac comes in and tells Alexis about Jerry being in a car accident and taken into surgery. Mac tells her that everything there is on hold so she can go to the hospital. She leaves. Taggert comes in and takes Sonny to his cell.
Mac goes to visit Sonny and promises that he'll broker a deal if he'll testify against Faison. Sonny says he's never met Faison and Mac says he's protecting a monster, so there's nothing to discuss. Alexis walks in and berates Mac for offering a deal when no attorney was present. Mac leaves and Alexis tells Sonny that if they're offering a deal they ought to think about it since that may be the only way they can get him out. She tells him she thinks they're preparing a witness and Hannah walks in. Sonny tells Alexis that they can talk in front of her and Alexis reminds him that she's not covered by attorney client privilege. Sonny says they're done anyway and Alexis leaves. Hannah meets Alexis on her way out and asks what his chances are and Alexis says not good.
On the docks, Alexis meets with Sonny. She snarks that there are so many suits at the end of the dock that she thought the governor was there (referring to their surveillance by the FBI). She asks Sonny whether he's ever stopped to notice himself becoming the very thing he swore he wouldn't in reference to her own sudden transformation into a mob lawyer. She tells Sonny she's there to ask him for something. "I'm sure this happens to you all the time, the law-abiding coming to you for favors," she says, but she's obviously very nervous about it. She tells him she needs him to find out whether Jerry's laundering money. Sonny gets pissed that Alexis is ashamed of defending him but not of helping out the sleazy Jax brothers. She says Jerry may not have done anything wrong, gets mad and starts to leave. Sonny stops her and tells her he'll look into it. She makes him promise not to tell anyone (or he'll lose his lawyer) and then tells him what she and Jax know so far, about the unexplained $2 million in Jerry's account. Sonny asks what Jax would think about him helping with this little problem. She makes Sonny promise again not to tell anyone, including Jax, and also not to use whatever he finds against Jax. Sonny is reluctant but teasingly says the thrill of torturing Jax is "probably not worth losing one of the best attorneys I ever had." She coolly thanks him and leaves. Sonny smiles though as she walks away, satisfied that she turned to him? Or perhaps that the Jax family is not quite so clean?
Sonny is not happy to learn from Jason that Jerry Jax is doing business with Moreno. Jason says that he saw Sorrel making a cash deposit at Jerry's bank. Sonny is outraged that Sorrel is alive and well. Benny promised him that he had taken care of him. Sonny tells Jason that Juan and Emily are the only two people who can identify Sorrel as the guy who beat up Juan. Jason says that he know and wants to know what he should do about it. Sonny says that they can't do much while he is under Federal investigation. He doesn't want a turf war. Jason says that doing nothing is not an option if Emily is in danger. Sonny assures Jason that Emily is safe. Sorrel knows that Emily has kept quite so far and that she is under Sonny's protection. Sonny then asks to see the proof Jason has regarding Jerry Jax. Jason produces several documents and shows them to Sonny. Sonny looks them over and says that they are even good enough to convince Jax. Jason asks Sonny why he would give them to Jax. Jason can't believe that Sonny is going to give Jax proof that Jerry is in cahoots with Moreno. Jax hates his guts. He will use anything he can against him. Sonny explains to Jason that he owes Alexis. She didn't want him as a client and she took him on against her husband's wishes. Alexis has come through for him and all she wants in return in information on Jerry Jax's activities. He tells Jason that the information has to be delivered to Alexis tonight.
Jason arrives at Jax's penthouse and asks for Alexis. Alexis asks Jason why he is there and Jason explains that Sonny sent him. Alexis is somewhat surprised that Sonny told Jason about investigating Jerry. Jason explains that Sonny sent him to find out what Jax needed to know because Sonny can't leave the country. Jax asks what Jason found out. Jason says that Jerry is still laundering money for the Organization. Jason explains that he witnessed Sorel transferring money to a bank in the Grand Keys and then provides paper proof that money transfers to/from Jerry's accounts are very similar to those of Moreno.
Alexis arrives at the penthouse. She tells Sonny that there has been a new development. Alexis delighted to inform Sonny and Jason that the FBI apparently was bluffing. Whatever they had or thought they had must have changed because the charges against Sonny have been dropped. Sonny is delighted! Alexis does caution Jason and Sonny that the FBI still has whatever they had before and that they will continue to dig. She also agrees to continue to represent Jason and Sonny. She says she is not ungrateful for his help and his silence in the Jerry matter. However she reminds him that she will not represent him for violent crime. This time she concedes a bit farther that a violent crime charge that they can't look her in the eye and say they didn't commit. She tells Sonny that her bill is in the mail and she hopes his coffee warehouse is doing well as she isn't cheap! Sonny says seriously that he will just have to rob a bank. Alexis' face freezes as she thinks he might be serious. He grins and assures her that he is kidding.
Almost three months later in January 2000, at the penthouse, Taggert questions Sonny about the bomb that was set in Elizabeth's studio, suggesting that he is responsible. Alexis is there and tries to step in, but Sonny insists that he's willing to cooperate and names his biggest opponent: the FBI. Taggert gets his point, but says that if anything should happen to Sorel, Taggert will come right to Sonny. Alexis puts a stop to the exchange, saying that the meeting is over, and Taggert leaves. Alexis wonders what all the FBI talk was about, and Sonny tells her about Hannah being an FBI agent (kinda funny that he didn't tell his attorney this when he found out about two months earlier!). He asks if there is any chance he can press charges for entrapment, but when Alexis tries to ask questions about the relationship, including how they met, Sonny becomes angry. Alexis explains that she needs the information in order to answer his question and Sonny apologizes for being unpleasant. Alexis states that everyone can be unpleasant when they're hurt, and she leaves.
Another few weeks go by, Alexis arrives at Sonny's penthouse at his request and asks if she should expect them to be interrupted by the police or the FBI. Sonny tells her neither, that he needs to know his legal parental rights. Alexis looks surprised and tells Sonny that she didn't know he had a child. Sonny tells her he just found out that Carly is pregnant and it's his baby. Alexis asks Sonny if he is sure it is his and he says he knows for a fact Carly only slept with him when the baby was conceived. He also tells her that he confronted Carly and she confirmed it. Alexis is shocked and asks him what was he thinking to sleep with Carly! Alexis tells him his chances of winning a custody battle are slim and that she doesn't know if she wants to take his case. Sonny tell her that the Quartermaines only want to raise his baby to keep Michael and that he doesn't want his baby treated like a stray puppy. He will do whatever is necessary to insure his baby's safety. He says he doesn't want to take away the baby from Carly if she cooperates, although he doesn't think it is good for the baby to be with Carly. Alexis tells Sonny she will think about it and that he is not father material according to the courts. But then again, Carly isn't exactly the best either. They will need a paternity test in order to proceed. Sonny says he will do whatever it takes. Alexis says she thinks he might have possibilities and smiles as she leaves. Alexis arrives and starts right in with the heavy questions: "If you were the judge, where would you place your child? With the Quartermaines or with you?"
Sonny reacts badly to Alexis' questions. He gives a very heartfelt, sub-textured monologue about how children should be treated and his Issues about the same. Of course, Alexis is quick on the uptake, and answers this with a very pointed question: "Were you ever physically abused as a child?" Sonny, of course, tries to avoid this but Alexis persists, and he finally describes the eight years of abuse he and his mother suffered at the hands of Timothy Deacon Woods (Deke). Nasty stuff, which ended nastily; according to Sonny, when he finally fought back at age 16, he nearly killed his stepfather. Sonny and Alexis make lists first of the people who know about Deke's violence and could testify to it during a custody hearing, then of all the vile, reprehensible things Sonny's done. They talk about how he threw Larkin through a window, how he plead no contest to a prior misdemeanor, and then Karen Wexler. As he described his relations with Karen clarifying that he didn't sleep with her "until she was 18", and that he only gave her access to "prescription medication". Of course, Alexis was disgusted but she couldn't get too angry, 'cause the phone rang with news of Roy's capture. And as Alexis protested strenuously about having to defend Sonny's thugs, he simply lead the way out of the Penthouse, saying very coolly, "You're the greatest." Sonny and Alexis march through the PD like they own the place, and get in to see Roy who is being questioned by Tag. Dara appears briefly Sonny's intent on staying for the questioning but Alexis sends him to the hospital for the paternity test. Beautiful quote here, by the way; before leaving, Sonny asks his attorney, "You sure you can handle this?" To which the always unflappable Ms. Davis answers, "No. I'm completely incompetent, isn't that why you pay me?" The cops are stalling Roy’s paperwork and Alexis has some unsettling news. Taggert says he had an anonymous tip about the meeting. Sounds like there is a leak.
Alexis says that the only way for the restraining order to disappear is if Carly signed an order that said that she didn't want a restraining order against Sonny. Her second news was that the paternity test is in and Sonny IS the father!
In by next scene in April, Carly is leaving with Sonny. Alexis's cell phone rings and it is Bobbie. She asks Alexis to come to the hospital to talk to her about something important to do with Roy. Alexis says she is on her way. Ned and Alexis get up and start to leave the grill. Just then Alexis and Ned run in to Sonny and Carly. Alexis tells Sonny she needs to speak to him. Carly and Ned exchange looks. She wants to know what he is looking at. Ned replies, "A human wrecking ball." He thinks AJ deserves whatever he gets, but not his grandmother. Has Carly made arrangements for Lila to see Michael? Yes? Good, Ned replies. Ned excuses himself to get Alexis's car and Carly goes to the table. Alexis fills Sonny in on the call she received from Bobbie. Sonny says to give her time and he will pick up the bill. Alexis says she doesn't care about the bill she just wanted him to know what was going on. He thanks her.
In July, Alexis arrives for her appointment with Sonny. She advises him not to take responsibility for Michael as it could lead to Carly having legal grounds to pursue child support/palimony. (Carly has lost her baby with Sonny and moved out). He says that isn't a problem as he intends to support Carly. Alexis isn't thrilled and begs him to tell her that he doesn't have romantic feelings for Carly. He denies it.
In early August, Alexis arrives at Sonny's penthouse with contracts for him to sign. She tells him she will have to move out of the hotel and that she needs her own place (she has been living with Jax during their marriage and now they are divorced). Sonny suggests Jason's empty apartment across the hall and dangles the key in front of her eyes. She wants to know what the catch is and why he wants to lease it now when it has been vacant for months. It turns out that Carly wants to move in there with Michael but Sonny wants her to move in with him so he is taking away Jason's apartment as an option for Carly.
Alexis is moving into her new apartment (Jason’s) with the help of Sonny and his men. Ned walks in to find her making a champagne toast with Sonny. Ned is fit to be tied. He accuses her of smiling at Sonny. He and Alexis get into a big argument over why she is moving in. Ned says she is doing it just to spite him. Alexis says that he has his own career and just because she can’t just run off to wherever with him doesn’t mean she has to stay wherever he tells her to. She tells him he has to respect her more. They yell and scream at each other and Ned storms out. Alexis throws her purse at the door and breaks her cell phone by accident. Sonny comes over to find out if she is ok and Alexis, who is drunk off of champagne by this point starts accusing Sonny of trying to make her part of the organization. She accuses him of trying to make her a made woman and calls him Mr. Smiley Face. She says he wants to isolate her from her clients in order to make her apart of his outfit, which was exactly what Ned said when they argued. Ned was afraid she would ruin her reputation by living next to Sonny. She has a tirade about losing her clients as she is Sonny's "mouthpiece" and needing a bullet proof vest which she sobs will make her look bulky. Sonny tells her he has absolutely no such intentions. As she continues to drink Sonny takes away her champagne. He kindly offers to cancel her lease as he doesn't want her to have a nervous breakdown. She tells him that he is right that she can't stay there. She begins to slur her words, then Jax shows up at her door (Ned ran straight to tell him about Alexis' new living arrangements). She stumbles over her words as she tries to tell Jax that her and Sonny are christening her new place. Alexis drains the last drop, she drank most of the bottle by herself (Sonny only had one glass). Sonny offers to send over another bottle as he leaves. Jax begins his anti-Sonny tirade. As he tries to fix her broken cell phone, she falls asleep on her couch with her head in her suitcase.
Carly, Michael and Leticia went to the Penthouse and Carly walked in on Alexis and Ned getting ready to christen the place by making love. Carly wanted to know why they were in her house. Alexis told Carly she needed to check her lease again. Because Alexis had just rented the Penthouse from Sonny. Carly won't have that. She begins explaining that she is moving in and Alexis has to get out -at which point who should make his entrance but the landlord himself, who wants to know just what Carly thinks she's doing. He tells her that yes, Alexis is the tenant now, at which point Carly throws down and they settle in for a good fight which Ned and Alexis settle in to watch, with popcorn. "Better than a bad B-movie." Carly, however, is actually quite astute, and tells him that she's on to his plan to get her to move back in with him. Which Sonny of course denies, because he would never try to maneuver her into something she didn't want. Despite his vehemence, Carly says one more time that she'll never move back in with him, then storms out, taking Leticia, Michael, and their bags with her. Sonny turns to Alexis and Ned to get sympathy for what he has to put up with, but all they can offer are ratings of the argument for entertainment value; Ned offered a "high score", but Alexis gave specifics - a 9.7 as well as a bit of sympathy. Sonny took the ribbing gracefully, then left the two lovebirds alone to smooch away happily.
Another day, Sonny assures Alexis that Carly will be moving into the penthouse with him so she can stay in Jason's apartment. While Ned and Alexis are getting intimate, a news report about Eddie's angel airs - pics of Alexis in her teddy with a rose in her teeth waiting in bed for Ned.
At the motel, Sorel tells Sonny that Mike Corbin owes him and the debt cannot be paid with money. Sorel says that he wants Sonny to use his transportation network to move Sorel's drugs from Cleveland to the Bahamas. Before Sonny can answer Carly bursts out of the closet and says, "Sonny, don't say a word! The tape is rolling and the cops are on the way!" Sorel and his henchman run out of the room, but reappear as just then Hannah and Taggert bust into the room, guns drawn and pointed at Sonny and Carly. Taggert demands that Sonny give him the tape recorder, which Sonny reluctantly does. Carly, ever-helpful, says that she can "explain everything" but Sonny barks at her to keep quiet. Meanwhile at a bar, Ned's shocked to see a poster of Alexis as "Eddie's Angel". They evidentially missed the news report.
Sonny is out on Bail and as he and Alexis leave the courtroom expecting a lot of questions about the case, a shocked Alexis finds out they are more interested in hearing more about “Eddie’s Angel” Alexis is mortified. Sonny takes Alexis back into the empty courtroom and asks her about it. He figures it was a phony picture. She explains that she was trying to surprise Ned. She sends Sonny out on his own. Back at the penthouse, Sonny show up and tells Alexis that the reporters downstairs left after Johnny threatened them with trespassing charges. Alexis says people can be sick with questions like how many times a week does she have sex. Sonny laughs that the press has never come at him with that one. He observes that she doesn't seem to be in the mood to talk about his case. She counsels him that the best way to solve his legal problems is to marry Carly because a spouse cannot be forced to testify against the other spouse. Sonny's reaction was to ask, "So my choices are to go to prison or to marry Carly?"
They meet again and Alexis again tells Sonny that he has to marry Carly, but he refuses to do this in order to save himself and tells her what happened the last time he did that, as he married Lily that way and lost Brenda who he really loved, and then he also lost Lily and their baby in the car bomb, and he wont do that again. He tells her that she's a smart attorney and that she will find another way. He leaves her and heads back to the penthouse, walking in to find Jason sitting there with Carly and Michael. As Carly, Sonny and Jason finished a toast, Alexis came over and was surprised to see Jason. Jason then shared with Alexis how he saw her in her underwear hanging over a bar in Texas. Alexis is horrified and is ready to hyperventilate. She tells Sonny he needs another attorney. Sonny reminds her to breathe. Carly agrees with Alexis that Sonny doesn't need a "lingerie lawyer". Jason is disappointed to learn that Sonny rented his apartment to Alexis. Alexis shared her fears that the "Eddie's Angel" saga will harm Sonny's defense. Alexis insisted privately to Sonny that he marries Carly to save himself and she was very upset when he told her that he did not tell Carly about her plan.
Alexis is waiting in disguise for Ned after his concert. As they kiss, the media charges in wanting information on “Eddie’s Angel”. Alexis meets Sonny on the docks. She is incognito with a large hat, trench coat to avoid the paparazzi. He teases her that she looks familiar, like his neighbor across the hall. He continues that she has the face of an angel, Eddie's angel. She warns him that he is on the clock and her rates just went up. Taggert and Mac come along and ask Sonny to cut a deal and confess; Alexis and Sonny have “no comment”! After she wrangles with Mac and Taggert, as they walk away Sonny grins and comments that he just loves to watch her defend him. Alexis tells Sonny that she came up with a new plan: send Carly out of the country with Jason (and of course little Michael)! It’s either that, or marry Carly. She wants Sonny to persuade Jason to take Carly away so she can't testify.
Alexis arrives at the penthouse. When Rick announces her she points out that she lives right across the hall and he doesn't have to announce her like she is a foreign dignitary. Alexis questions Sonny again over his decision to marry Carly. Alexis still thinks that Jason taking Carly away would solve the issue and she knows he would do it if Sonny asked him to. So why hasn't he asked she queries. Does he want to marry Carly? Then looking horrified at the thought she asks if he is in love with Carly? Sonny deflected Alexis's question about his love for Carly and said that his relationship with Carly was complicated, but he knew what he was getting into. Alexis still thought the best course of action was for Jason to take Michael and Carly away. Sonny tells her that marrying Carly is the best solution. She asks him if he has any idea of what it would be like to live with Carly every day. Sonny feels that what happened is his responsibility as he gave Carly the money without checking it out, he knows the crazy ideas she gets in her head and he should have realized she was up to something. Sonny says he can't ask Jason to take her away as Jason would do it and it would ruin his life.
Later at Jake's, Jason defended Alexis against some guys who were glad to see "Eddie's Angel." After they leave she asks Jason if she turns around will she any pictures of herself in her underwear. He says no. She asks him that if he does see any if he will rip them up into tiny pieces. He is puzzled as to why she doesn't like the poster as he points out that she looks good in it. Since Sonny wouldn't do it, Alexis asked Jason if he would take Carly out of the country. Jason agreed to discuss the situation with Carly and Sonny and helped Alexis slip out back before her "fan club" pursued her.
Jason is arrested (Zander kidnapped Em and Taggert brought him in to prevent him from going vigilante). Alexis argues for his immediate release. Alexis points out that it is not against the law to see your sister get kidnapped. Carly freaks on Dara about Jason being arrested. Sonny tells Jason that he will put his men on Sorel's warehouse in case Zander shows up there. Taggert convinces Dara to hold Jason for 48 hrs ours so he won't interfere with the investigation for Emily.
Alexis arrives at the penthouse and informs Carly and Sonny that they must get married tonight because the deposition is moved up to tomorrow. Sonny asks Alexis if she will be Carly's matron of honor and if she will get flowers for her. Alexis asks if that would be ragweed? Then realizing Sonny is serious she agrees to buy a bouquet of roses for the bride. Alexis and Jason act as witnesses and the wedding begins. In the middle of Sonny’s vows, Carly blurts out the she can’t do it. Nobody looks surprised! She runs upstairs. After Jason calmed Carly down, she and Sonny exchanged vows at last. Officially married, Carly and Sonny directed Jason and Alexis to stay for a small celebration. Alexis and Carly had a frank talk and Alexis told her that she believed Carly had deeper feelings for Sonny. Carly respected her opinion because she knew that Sonny did.
At the PD, Alexis tells Dara that Sonny and Carly were married so they won't be taking a deposition from Carly. Bobbie comes out from visiting with an arrested Luke and is shocked to overhear this news. Dara asks Bobby if she would sign an affidavit that the marriage is a fraud when obviously the mother of the bride is so stunned. Bobby recovers quickly and says she is just surprised that they didn't have a church wedding like they had planned, and didn't Dara have better things to do like looking for Emily.
Alexis arrives to tell Sonny & Carly that there is no way in for an annulment unless Sonny wants to go to jail. Sonny asks Alexis to secure the earliest trial date so Carly "can be with a man she loves." Sonny says he will do anything so Carly can be happy.
Sonny arrives at Alexis' for a meeting to go over contracts. She talks non-stop. Sonny stops her and asks her to calm down and tell him what is wrong. She confesses that she is getting married to Ned. Sonny is surprised that she looks so upset since this is supposed to be good news. She assures him that she is happy that this is what happy looks like. She babbles on telling that they were going to marry on a terrace in the Caribbean but the press found them. So now they are having a large wedding, press and Quartermaines included. The longer she talks the more she starts to hyperventilate. She gets a brown paper bag and tries to breathe into it as she continues her ranting. She slumps to the floor as she passes out from lack of oxygen. Sonny catches her and sits her on the coach. He reassures her that it is normal to be nervous about getting married. She assures him that she really does love Ned with all of her heart but worries that this might be a terrible mistake. Sonny unpacks her cappuccino machine and makes her coffee. She laments her lack of domestic skills and thinks she won't make a good wife. She tries repeatedly to get Sonny to tell her that she shouldn't marry Ned. He refuses to go there and tells her its up to her to marry him if that is what she wants but to not marry him if she doesn't. Everytime he says that she reiterates that she does want to marry Ned. She is afraid that Ned will think she doesn't love him if he knows how anxious she is about it. She is afraid that getting married is walking away from herself, that she has to give part of herself up and she has really learned to like herself and doesn't want to lose that. She thinks all the trappings of a large wedding have sacrificial tones to the traditions. Sonny encourages her to talk to Ned about her feelings. Ned comes in, and Sonny makes a comment about how he talks away Alexis' breath. She gives Sonny a warning look, and he leaves them alone together.
Desperate to find gainful employment, Carly asks Alexis if she needs any help with her law practice. Sonny walks in as Alexis tells Carly she can't work for her. Sonny jokes, "Join the club." He tells Alexis that Carly has already hit him up, Bobbie, and the pizza guy. Alexis apologizes to Sonny for the other night when she forgot to inhale. Carly wants to know how she forgot to breathe? Carly realizes that Alexis is freaked at marrying into the Q's. Sonny reassures her that if he and Carly can make it that she can too. Alexis looks less than reassured with this comparison. She makes them both promise not to say anything to Ned about her anxiety. Then she tells them that Emily wants her to defend the guy who kidnapped her, his name is Zander. After Alexis leaves, Sonny tries to coax Carly into spending some quality gal pal time with his nervous attorney. He points out that Carly can understand, she's been there and Alexis needs a woman to confide in. Carly says no. Sonny points out that Alexis helped her with their wedding and stood up for her. He asks Carly to reach out to Alexis. Carly reminds him that she doesn't exactly have a calming effect on people and she laments that Alexis treats her like the cleaning lady. Sonny is relentless. Carly groans that he is like a dog with a bone. She finally agrees to consider trying.
Ned and Alexis were at Kelly's discussing their upcoming wedding. Alexis was all jittery and panicky. Alexis objects to the idea of being given away but agrees to have Nik "escort" her down the aisle. Alexis starts thinking of all the details that need to be taken care of. Ned was calm and sympathized with Alexis' plight. They were able to decide that Ned wanted Alan to be his best man and Emily to be a bridesmaid. When she thinks of having to select a dress she starts hyperventilating. Ned gets a paper bag. Sonny sitting at the counter, comes over to see if she is okay. Ned suggests they hire a wedding planner and Alexis agrees and is relieved. Ned leaves and Sonny sits down. Sonny observes that she hasn't told Ned about the panic attacks. Alexis thanks him for not giving her away. Alexis says the attacks keep coming and she doesn't have any control over them. Sonny encourages her to figure out what is causing them. He tells her that as soon as her wedding is over her panic will end. He comments that being around her is never boring.
Alexis and Emily sit and wait for the wedding planner, Carly arrives at the door. Emily leaves, but does congratulate Carly on her marriage to Sonny. Then Carly told Alexis that she came over to help with the wedding. Alexis was horrified at first, but later realized that she could use all the help she could get. Next the wedding planner, Eldon, showed arrived and he was on his cell phone talking to the press. He was very thrilled to meet Mrs. Sonny Corinthos and started going on and on about Carly's participation in the wedding. Shortly thereafter Carly had gone from helper to Bride's Maid and also offered to throw Alexis a bridal shower. Alexis was trying to stop this media train from rolling but it just kept growing with Eldon's help. After the wedding planner left, Carly did apologize to Alexis for letting the whole help in the wedding plan get out of hand. Alexis conceded and agreed to let Carly remain the bride's maid in Chloe's absence. Carly was so pleased that Alexis kept her on that she ran home to tell Sonny.
Next a music montage as Alexis tries on wedding dresses to "Going to the Chapel". She finally selects one and the press breaks into the room snapping pictures. As they are ushered out, Alexis sinks to the floor. At the shower, Alexis and Ned arrive. Then Eldon bursts in with the good news that the press is on their way. After much debating Alexis agrees to 15 minutes. Monica is curious about how Carly managed to weasel her way into being her maid of honor. Alexis retorts that Carly was in the right place at the wrong time. Monica warns Alexis to watch her back. Alexis opens a toaster and poses for a picture with the press. They ask her to open one more, Gia hands Alexis the present from Carly. Carly realizes what happens and tries to stop Alexis but she is too late and Alexis holds up the teddy and the reporters take pictures. Carly thinks she can remedy the problem by having Johnny take the film away from the reporters but Alexis stops her. Alexis explains to Carly that since they invited the press it wouldn't be a good idea to strong arm them into giving back the pictures and they would just crucify her in the papers. Carly apologizes to the reporters saying she overreacted but their time is up and they have to leave. Monica rips into Carly saying that Carly planned to have Alexis open the teddy in front of the reporters (We know that Emily brought the present downstairs and Carly was trying to do the right thing). Monica warned Alexis that anything Carly was involved in will go wrong. After everyone leaves Carly tells Alexis to go ahead and yell at her. Carly tells Alexis that she only wanted to give Alexis the perfect bridal shower. Alexis asks why and Carly tells her she really appreciated Alexis being there for her on her wedding day and more or less hanging around with her because she doesn't really have too many girl friends. Alexis tells her that all that went wrong wasn't Carly's fault. They seem like they may actually becoming friends. Sonny comes home and Carly tells him about the disastrous party.
Alexis ran into Sonny on the docks and asked him to help Zander out, since the DA's office had pulled their plea bargain off the table. Sonny agreed to help.
Sonny teases Alexis about her bachelorette party. She invites him to go to Ned's bachelor party. He responds, "no way!". At the party, Alexis is shocked to find a stripper arrive, and begins to strip to "I'm too Sexy". AJ has set it up and a photographer is handy to take the picture of the near naked man sitting on Alexis' lap.
Carly arrives at the Q's for Alexis wedding rehearsal dinner. Bickering of course ensues. When Edward goes on about what a respectable family the !'s are and how they shouldn't have to fraternize with mobsters, Alexis calls him a blowhard. Chloe tells Alexis that her dress burned up and they are working on replacing it. Alexis can't handle anymore and leaves saying she had an emergency with a client. She went to see Sonny, he usually calms her down. He is on his way out of town and she begs him not to go as she needs him. He asks what is wrong? "everything" she sobs. He calms her. As she leaves she thanks him and wishes he could come to the wedding. She smiles at him and says that for a contemptible person he can be "kinda sweet".
Its Alexis's wedding, and as she walks down the aisle she is suddenly overwhelmed with fears about joining the wacky Quartermaine clan. She slows her march down the aisle to a crawl. She begins imaging all sorts of scenes involving the Q's and her future with them, the closer she approaches, the more her anxiety increases. Alexis finally makes it to the altar but panics and quickly retreats from the church at top speed, leaving behind a gloating Helena and a stunned group of guests.
Zander shows Alexis the latest death threat. Alexis shows it to Dara. Sorel issues a direct threat to Alexis. Rattled by Sorel's threats, she heads straight to Sonny's. He is still out of town and unreachable. Alexis pressures Carly to get an urgent message to Sonny. Carly figures it is about Alexis leaving Ned at the altar and tells Alexis Sonny is busy. Alexis tells her that it is urgent and that Sorel has threatened her. Sonny has returned early. He and Carly are making out on the living room floor, when Alexis comes in. She is embarrassed to have interrupted them. Alexis tells him that Zander's bail is set at 2 million. Sonny readily agrees to bail Zander out. Alexis is incredulous that he has two million in cash laying around the penthouse. He tells Alexis he'll put the boy up in a safe house until he's ready to testify. Later as Alexis, Sonny, Zander and Em walk out of the PD. When Zander was at the steps he let out a primal scream to acknowledge his freedom. He was so happy to be free that he ran down the stairs and began to play in the snow and then started throwing snowballs at Emily. Sonny and Alexis looked on them and were happy that they could finally share some fun times together. Zander picked Emily up and started to spin her around when he noticed two men, in police uniforms with machine guns. Then Sonny turned around and yelled get down. The men were already upon them and with machine guns. Zander covered Emily and Sonny did the same for Alexis. Both Zander and Sonny were shot. They all lay in the snow as the scenes flash to an eerie montage of Christmas scenes at GH as everyone celebrates. Then gunmen went up to the four as they laid on the snow. One gunman was about to finish Sonny off, but the other one said let's go. Zander regained composure first and checked on Emily. Emily immediately started to scream. Sonny told Emily to be quiet and asked Alexis to go inside for help and an ambulance. Alexis noticed that Sonny was bleeding so she took off her scarf and used it to apply pressure to his wound. Sonny was unable to move. Finally Garcia and other officers from inside came out and started to take action. Garcia questioned the four and they all told them that the gunmen were police officers but the shooting happened too quickly they could not identify the shooters. Alexis kept asking where the ambulance was. Sonny was fading as he lost blood. Alexis kept reassuring him that he would be okay. Sonny asked Alexis to tell Carly that he loved her. Alexis promised that she would. After uttering those words, Sonny lost consciousness. Alexis again wondered where the ambulance was. The ambulance did seem to take a long time to arrive, but finally the EMT's started to work on Sonny and Zander.
Sonny arrived at GH and was in a critical state and unconscious. Alexis walked in and overhead the nurses saying that Sonny may not make it. Alexis immediately went to look for Carly. Covered in blood Alexis walked off the elevator to meet Carly, Michael, and Johnny. When Carly saw her, she realized that something had happened. She ordered Johnny to take Michael home to Leticia and stay with them. Alexis told her that Sonny was critical and they needed to get down to ER right away. Once the elevator doors open, Carly flew down the hall to Sonny. Alexis ran into Ned and they embraced and hugged each other tightly. Carly was crying and trying to reassure Sonny. She said, baby I know you can hear me. You are going to be all right all you have to do is get through this. You can do this Sonny. Don't leave me Sonny. Please don't leave me!
Alexis tells Mac and Taggert her account of the shooting. This is overlaid with scenes of the shooting. Alexis concludes that Sonny saved her life when he pushed her out of the way. Alexis later tells Carly that the last thing Sonny said was to tell Carly he loves her.
Almost two weeks later, Sonny is in the hospital recuperating after having almost died. He and Carly are in his room with the door shut and the blinds drawn so they can have some intimate time together. Alexis and Zander arrive to see Sonny. Alexis asks Amy why the door is closed. She demands to know when the last time someone checked on Sonny. He could be dead for all they cared. Alexis knocks on the door and is shocked to hear Carly telling her to go away (as she figures out what is going on).
Alexis went to see Sonny, who was out of ICU. He was on the phone with Benny but hung up when Alexis came in. She asked if he should be using the cell phone with all the heart monitors around. He said he had already had all the lectures from the nurses but business was business. Alexis told him Zander's testimony at the Grand Jury hearing had gone admirably. They had to talk about the charges against Sorel but also about coffee contracts. She paused, uncomfortable, and Sonny asked what was wrong. She said she didn't know how to do this; she was having an unusually hard time expressing herself. She wanted to thank him for saving her life. "So you thanked me," he said. "I didn't do that much," he continued. She said that he took the time to push her away, took the bullets himself. He told her he didn't remember much about it; just Emily and Zander fooling around in the snow, then lying on the ground. He tried to ask Alexis to tell Carly he loved her. Alexis told him he shouldn't have to wait till he was at death's door to tell his wife he loved her. Not that she was a relationship expert; it took almost getting shot for Ned to forgive her; she guessed she had Sonny to thank for that too. She said he's the last person she ever expected to care about, but she did, very much. "Right back at you," he replied. Carly came in and asked if they could cut the therapy session short as Sonny just got shot a few days ago and didn't need to listen to Alexis' problems with Ned. Alexis asked Carly what was that in ICU a couple of days ago, touch therapy?
Alexis tells Sonny about Zander skipping town. Sonny thinks it is because Sorel got to him. Once Alexis tells Sonny about Emily they realize he must have gone to California to see her. Alexis wants Sonny to get some of his men to find Em and Zander. Sonny tells her to calm down and he will get someone on it but it will take a few days because he doesn't want Sorel to find out Zander is gone. Alexis stopped by to see Sonny but was told he was off on some errand with Rick instead of with her. She complained that he did what he wanted, didn't tell her anything. Alexis asked if they fought a lot, she hears them from across the hall. Carly asked if that was supposed to make her feel better. Alexis asked Carly if she married Sonny not knowing if h e loved her. She said she hoped Carly knew how fortunate she was and Carly said she could be fortunate too but she made things so complicated. Alexis said she would keep that in mind.
Prior to Alexis leaving for the Quartermaine's, she informed Sonny that Emily and Zander were back in town. Sonny told Alexis that Zander must be ready to testify and she was to do everything possible to ensure this. Sonny iterated to Alexis that Zander was not important, only his testimony because Sorel is a nuisance. He tried to kill me, and I find that inconvenient. Alexis, you must make sure that Zander testifies and puts Sorel away this is my only concern. As Alexis left, she told Sonny that it is a good thing that we are on the same side, otherwise you would be terrifying. Sonny took that as a complement.
Sonny and Carly begin to kiss, but are interrupted by a knock on the door. It is Elton. He shows Carly the test shoot proofs, but he is far more interested in the fact that he is standing in the same room as supercool rockstar mobster Sonny Corinthos. For Elton's sake, Sonny plays up the tough guy act a bit and leaves the room. We hear another knock on the door. This time it's Alexis, who is on the receiving end of a lengthy tirade from Elton for running out on "his" wedding. Alexis is saved by Sonny and the two leave to go deal with Zander. Out in the hall, Sonny affirms that he wants Zander out of jail, and won't withdraw his bail money.
Alexis and Sonny show up to bail out Zander. "You mean I'm free?" asks Zander. "Not so fast," says Mac ominously. It is revealed that Zander must wear an ankle monitor. He is released into the custody of Alexis. Sonny and Zander enter the penthouse, sans Alexis. Sonny lets Zander know just what he expects from him, especially in treating Alexis. Zander's protests are silenced. He apologizes and Sonny relents a little, not before telling Zander to "mind Alexis" and "treat her like a lady."
Sonny and Carly are making out and in walks Alexis who is having a panic attack because her life evolved around Ned and now he doesn't want her. Sonny asks Carly to go upstairs so he and Alexis can be alone. Jealous Carly doesn't want to leave but she finally does. Alexis tells Sonny she can't give up her career for Ned. She loves Ned but can't deal with the rest of it. At the same time Ned is telling Chloe all the same things about Alexis. He still loves Alexis but he can't deal with the rest of it. He wants to replace Alexis as L&B attorney.
At the police station, Jason and Sonny are being questioned about the fire at the warehouse. It was to no luck because you know how good the two of them are with silence. Alexis arrived quite punctually and demanded the release of her clients. Alexis went off once again on violating their rights by this illegal questions (evidentially Sorel was left tied up on the pier). Alexis got what she wanted. Mac had to release them because he really had nothing on them. Sonny and Jason signed the release forms and they were on their way. Before Sonny leaves, he tells Alexis he needs to meet with her on another matter. He seems very serious. Alexis gave another warning to Mac not to harass her clients. Also she told him Sorel had not made any statement other than the ones to his attorney. Sonny meets with Alexis and he tells her he has cancelled his divorce plans. (Note: They never had an onscreen meeting about her getting him a divorce. Sonny came home to find Carly had gone to Martinique and he left to follow her. While there they renewed their vows).
Sonny's penthouse, Carly is ready to leave for the Deception party but Sonny told her they had to wait for Alexis. "Who invited her?" Carly asked. Sonny said he did so he would have someone to talk. "What am I, chopped liver?" Carly asked. Sonny said she would be busy, working the room, charming the contacts; she wouldn't have time for him. She said she would always have time for her husband. She said if he got bored she was sure Elton would love to entertain him. Sonny laughed. She said he could give Elton cooking tips. "Or I could be across the room with Alexis," he replied. Carly said she would probably arrive in her gray power suit. Alexis came in and said she had heard that. She wasn't dressed in gray but was in a suit. She said of the top 500 things she didn't want to do, going to this party was about 499th. She told Sonny he owed her. He asked about Zander and she said he was behaving himself, following the rules to the letter. Carly gets ruffled and suggests Alexis could stay home if the launch party wasn't her idea of a good time. She went on to say she pop popcorn and read a law book. Alexis said she didn't know what a good idea that sounded. Sonny told Carly to save it. Its obvious that Alexis doesn't want to go but will as Sonny has asked her to. Carly warns them this is her night and she doesn't want to see pictures of Sonny & Alexis all over the newspaper tomorrow. The three of them left together and Carly accidentally on purpose closed the elevator doors before Alexis got there. She opened them and apologized like she was miss innocent.
Carly, Sonny and Alexis arrived and the reporters circled around them asking Sonny questions about the fire and his recovery. Sonny told them to talk to his lawyer, indicating Alexis. This of course puts her in the limelight as the reporters all turn towards her, ignoring Carly. Carly interrupts and says this is a Deception function and if they are there to cover that then to follow her, this breaks up the horde around Sonny as the follow Carly as she walks off.
Laura made the announcement that in about half an hour or so she would name the new face of Deception. Mr. Shafer, a reporter, tried to talk to Sonny but Alexis got rid of him. She asked where press control was written on the retainer. "But you're so good at it," Sonny told her. Alexis asked Sonny if Ned was still looking at her. "You're asking me?" he asked. She wanted to know if he was headed her way. Sonny said no. "Are you sure?" she asked. Sonny saw Shafer staring at him and asked Alexis if she could get rid of him. "Do you want me to throw him out the window?" Alexis asked. "Don't answer that," she added.
Gia went up to Sonny and said she didn't mean to disturb him, but she wanted to say how great it was that he was there in support of Carly. He said it was his pleasure. She said most important men wouldn't bother. He said he would do anything he could. Alexis came back and told Gia she looked wonderful. Gia thanked her and left. Alexis asked Sonny what that was all about and he said the kid had an angle, no doubt about it. Gia told Mr. Shafer that Mr. Corinthos would meet him in the lobby. He asked why she was giving him the message. She said isn't Sonny the only reason he's there. He left. Later she asked a waiter to tell Laura Spencer that Mr. Shafer wanted to meet her now on the roof to discuss a photo for the new face of Deception; he wants the city in the background, go figure. He wants everything set up before the official announcement is made. She said he was waiting on the roof now. Alexis came over and told Sonny the annoying man was gone, can she go home. Carly told her she was being paid to party, so party.
Ned was looking at Alexis and Chloe told him to go say hello. He went over and said hello and right away attacked her with comments about her being there with Sonny. Ned continued to be snide toward Alexis, even suggesting she hadn't been much of a friend to Chloe. He decided to leave with the parting shot that maybe he would flag down a semi.
While Laura is on the roof, Carly makes an announcement that the two finalists are Gia and Liz and introduces them both as the possible Face Of Deception. There is a buzz as the crowd thought the face was going to be announced that night. Carly promises the final selection will be done soon. Lucky and Nikolas confronted Carly. Everyone started to raise his or her voice. Sonny immediately came to Carly's rescue. Lucky told Sonny he would talk to his wife any way he wanted to talk. Alexis interjected and suggested that they all do this another time. All agreed. Sonny and Carly left.
Sonny told Jason they have to take Zander to a safehouse before he gets killed because of his recklessness; or gets someone else killed. He asked Zander to come see him and blasted him for what happened and said he was going to a safehouse. Zander was agreeing to anything Sonny wanted but Alexis disagreed. She told Sonny she was responsible for Zander and he was not going anywhere. They went round and round but Alexis won.
Sonny called Jason. He had found a note in a package that had arrived for Carly saying "Boom, Zander Smith wouldn't be testifying". Jason came over and they talked about Zander and he had Alexis come over. He told her to move Sorel's trial date up. She said she wasn't prosecuting the case and she wasn't Sorel's lawyer. She couldn't do it. He reminded her that he paid her well and she said she was Zander's lawyer before Sonny got involved. She told him to quit throwing the money in her face. She said Zander wouldn't be going to a safehouse and she would see what she could do about speeding things up. After she left, Sonny told Jason they should have dropped Sorel while they had him.
Sonny told Jason they had to take care of Sorel and Jason was the only one he trusted with the job; unless he didn't want the job. Jason said to tell him what the job was. "Sorel is desperate, which makes him dangerous," Sonny told him. He went to see Sorel in jail and things got out of control. They had to shut Sorel down, they couldn't count on the courts to do it.
Pier: Alexis and Ned caught Zander going back to her place. She asked where his bodyguard was and he said he didn't need a bodyguard all the time. "You deliberately put yourself in danger," Alexis said. "You promised you would stay under Sonny's protection until the trial," she continued. Zander said he made sure he wasn't followed. Alexis told him the only reason he wasn't in a safehouse was because she promised Sonny she would keep him safe. He said he would be careful. She was going to go home with him, then changed her mind. Ned said they could follow him, it was a beautiful night for a walk. "Giving up on me that easily?" Alexis asked. She thought they were there to work things out. "Is that why we're here?" Ned asked. Ned and Alexis made plans for the rest of the evening and night but were sidetracked by Sonny. He told Alexis he had to talk to her, it was important. She told him not tonight, she had plans. He insisted it had to be tonight. She told him she had a life, she was busy. Alexis starts talking fast in her anxiety. Sonny reminds her to breathe. Ned objects and tells Sonny not to remind her to breathe. Then Ned reminds her. Ned stopped them both and suggested a compromise. He asked Sonny if he needed Alexis for long and Sonny said an hour at the most. Ned told Alexis he would go home, pack a bag and meet at her place in an hour; how did that sound. She said it was unbelievably reasonable. Sonny told Alexis that Sorel was going to make a move on Zander tonight. They raced off to her place to try and stop Sorel's men. They were too late, Zander was gone. The penthouse has been ransacked. They find Zander's ankle monitor on the floor.
Carly walks in on Sonny and Alexis discussing the Zander "kidnapping" (Jason has him on Sonny's orders). Carly blows a gasket. Sonny later has an audio flashback to Deke's abuse. Alexis has asked Roy to search for Zander. After a few words with Sonny in the parking garage, Roy pretty much figured out that Sonny had Zander stashed somewhere. Sonny and Jason talk. Sonny tells Jason that Alexis might be a problem as he isn't sure she trust him to find Zander.
Later, Sonny was in the park with Michael. He was sitting with him in the sandbox, talking to him, when Alexis found him. She told Sonny the trial was tomorrow, but no Zander. Sonny said Zander would be there. Alexis wants to know how he can be so sure. She told him she went to see Sorel. He asked if she told him that Zander was missing. She said why not let him know when it was Sorel's men who took him. Sonny kept looking back to make sure Michael was okay, not knowing A.J. was watching from behind the trees. He told Alexis she put herself in danger. He had looked away again and when he turned around, no Michael. Sonny and Alexis were frantically searching and calling for Michael. Sonny assumed Sorel was behind his disappearance but Alexis didn't think so. "What would Sorel have to gain by taking Michael when he has Zander?" she asked. They split up and agreed to meet again in the same spot in ten minutes. They met again, neither having any success. Alexis wanted to call the police but Sonny wouldn't let her. He said it was his fault; he should have brought Sorel down when he had the chance. Alexis noticed Michael and told Sonny. Sonny hugged Michael and told him not to go running off like that, he scared Sonny. He asked if he wanted ice cream and sent him off with Alexis.
At the courthouse, Dara accosts Alexis after hearing an ugly rumor from Sorel's attorney that Zander isn't going to show up. Emily beams and Alexis breathes a huge sigh of relief when Roy escorts Zander into court just as Sorel's trial begins.
Alexis asked Roy for details on how he got Zander away from Sorel. Roy asked if it really mattered, as Zander showed up and testified, and it went well. He said he played a hunch, looked through a window, and found Zander. "So you just knocked on the door and asked Sorel's men to hand over Zander?" Alexis asked, skeptically. She really wanted to know. "What if I tell you I broke through the window, surprising the guards, knocked them cold, then dragged Zander to safety?" Roy asked. "I would say you were lying," Alexis said. He said she would be right, it wasn't that spectacular. He said he made a deal. "Anything that's going to come back and haunt you?" Alexis asked. Roy said he settled a debt.
Sonny tells Zander he did a great job testifying but now he's responsible for his own security. He warns Zander to be careful. Alexis questions Roy about the exact details of his locating Zander. Roy evades her questions. Later Roy tells Sonny that he's keeping quiet about Sonny's role in Zander's disappearance only because he's returning a favor Sonny once did for him. He tells Sonny that they're even now, and he won't associate with the mobster again. Later, Alexis watched Zander and Sonny talking, her attention not quite on what Dara was saying. She saw Johnny hand Zander his watch. She questioned Zander about where he had been held. Zander said he didn't remember much but it was obvious he was lying. She told him not to say anymore, she knew he was sworn to secrecy. She said it was gratifying to see he was a little uncomfortable. She said she knew it was Sonny who had held him. Roy had rescued him but Sonny had let him go.
Just as Carly and Sonny are getting ready to leave for the Deception party, Alexis storms in the penthouse, demanding to know about Zander. Alexis slapped Sonny, Carly ordered her out of there and out of their lives. Alexis said not until she was finished, and she was not finished. Alexis tore into Sonny verbally. She is near tears. Her voice quivers with hurt and anger as she recalls how Sonny lied to her and let her worry. What a loyal friend. Sonny tells her that Sorel's men had tried to snatch Zander outside of Kelly's two weeks earlier. She wants to know why he didn't tell her. He points out that he couldn't as she was obligated to tell the court. He acted to protect her and Zander. He told her he kept Zander alive, he testified, Sorel is put away; end of story. She goes off on him that he is so full of his own power that he swells up like a tick (or something to that effect - I swear i don't know how she said it without cracking up!) She asks why didn't he just take her hand, or look into her eyes to let her know not to worry, a silent communication that she wouldn't have to report. This infuriates Carly, "What do you think you are, his wife?". Carly tries to come to Sonny's defense. Sonny abruptly put a stop to Carly's defense of him. Alexis told Sonny what he did was witness tampering and the case could be thrown out, would be a mistrial. Sonny said it was over; forget it. He tells her he was right and she was wrong and he will forget this little incident every happened. Alexis, feeling betrayed, tells him to go to hell. Alexis said she was finished and left. "She'll be back," Sonny said.
Sorel is brought into the courthouse and when the jury announces the verdict, it's guilty! Sorel is sentenced to death and remanded to the prison to await sentencing.
Sonny came to the PD and agrees to help Zander, he called Alexis. When she got there, she agreed to represent Zander (Edward has faked an assault and has accused Zander), she reminded Sonny she wanted nothing to do with him.
