Sonny & Alexis #5  April 24 - June 26, 2002 - 8 hrs

When Carly arrives at the penthouse, the door is unlocked. She tiptoes upstairs and finds Alexis in a warm embrace in bed with Sonny. Shocked to see the reflection of Sonny and Alexis in bed together, Carly backs up and leaves hurriedly. She is unaware that she has dropped Michael's birthday card and it has fluttered under the furniture. Later, Sonny and Alexis' night is interrupted when Max arrives with some documents Benny sent over. Max takes the opportunity to let Sonny know that people are talking about his canceled hit. Sonny not to subtly hints that Max ought to warn his cohorts not to second-guess him. He tells Max to inform everyone that they are to not to touch AJ. Sonny points out that now that he is Courtney’s husband, AJ is his own personal problem. A problem he will deal with in his own way and time. Sonny then heads back upstairs where he rejoins a contented but worried Alexis in bed. Alexis wonders what the morning after will bring. With a tender kiss on the forehead, Sonny assures her all will be well.

Alexis and Sonny lay in bed with her head on his chest, she tries to leave without waking him, but he asks her if she is leaving the scene of the crime with just a hint of a smile when her jaw drops looking back at him. She goes into spin mode as she tries to explain she was going home, and they are private people. She gets uncomfortable with his perusal of her. He admits to watching her mouth. He kisses her and then announces that he is going downstairs to make her a great breakfast because she is a fascinating woman. Later he calls her down to breakfast, she comes down in his shirt and he tells her she looks good in it. Suggests she wear it to court with her sensible shoes. Clearly uncomfortable with still being there for breakfast she asks for the protocol. He asks her if she likes him and they have a little joke about her tolerating her. Someone knocks and she goes to leave, “What if it is Carly?” He reassures her and goes to answer the door, it’s Kristina looking for her sister. She spots her sister in Sonny’s shirt, and Sonny gives them a minute to go make some coffee. Kristina tells her that it looks like she had a wonderful evening, not mortified like Alexis thinks. Kristina leaves telling her to have fun. Poor Alexis looks like she is in the middle of a nightmare.

Alexis is amazed at how good the food is. She then analyzes how he manages in the kitchen, he asks her if she analyzes everything and she simply answers, “yes.” She goes to bite a strawberry and Sonny stops her cold by telling her there is nothing sexier than a woman biting into a strawberry. Finally dressed in her own clothes, he asks her again if she is OK. Alexis asks what happens next.

Zander is in Kelly's and hears a radio announcement about an accident involving a car matching the Carly's car having gone off a cliff the night before. Zander goes rushing out. Zander starts pounding on the door. Zander starts ranting about Carly and how she drives a sport coupe. Sonny questions Zander on why he believes that it was Carly's car that went into the lake. Zander is hesitant to explain to Sonny and Alexis why Carly was so upset when she left his place the night before. Sonny orders Zander to keep looking for Carly and contact him as soon as he knows something. After Zander leaves, Alexis offers to help by making calls to see what she can find out. Sonny, apparently in denial, claims there is no need as he is sure Carly is fine, then calmly goes to make cappuccino.

Courtney shows up at the penthouse with Sonny favorite pastries to wish her brother a happy birthday. Sonny acts surprised to learn she is back from her honeymoon, but is clearly touched that she knows it’s his birthday. As they sit around drinking coffee Courtney expresses the belief that she is like an ambassador bringing peace between her husband and her brother, because they both love her, just like they both love Michael. Sonny immediately goes cold and expresses the thought that AJ sent her. Courtney’s claims that she is acting by herself in an effort to get to know her nephew/stepson are cut short when the phone rings. Sonny answers to hear Zander tell him that the license plates on the car at the bottom of the lake are a match for Carly’s vanity plates…CC101… After Zander’s upsetting news, Sonny starts to rush out of the penthouse. Courtney tries to stop him, but Sonny harshly tells her to tell AJ there will NEVER be a trade. Pronouncing that that is the end of the subject Sonny hurries off. Alexis gives Courtney a quick review on the Sonny/AJ battle history. She tells Courtney that today was an especially bad day to bring up Michael because of Carly’s accident. Courtney assures Alexis that she had no idea, and neither did AJ. When Courtney starts to defend AJ again saying everyone doesn’t know him like she does, Alexis points out “maybe not, but we’ve all known him alot longer”. Alexis urges Courtney to go home and pass Sonny’s message on to AJ. When Courtney asks what Sonny meant by “trade”, Alexis fills her in on AJ’s offer to Sonny when they where in the Caribbean. Then tells the shocked girl to consider if she really wants to be with a man who could do that on the same day he promised to love her forever. After Courtney leaves, Alexis has a series of flashbacks of her intimate time with Sonny. She walks up to the bedroom and thinks of him.

At the park, Scott shows up and is obviously upset. Bobbie warns him that if he is there to continue berating Carly he can forget it. As Scott suggests they find someone to watch Michael while they talk, Sonny shows up. Sonny distracts the little boy with a talk and an ice cream while Scott gives Bobbie the bad news, hopeful news. The car that went over the bluff has been identified as Carly’s, but no body has been found so there is still hope that she is alive. Later, Scott takes Michael to the swings to give Bobbie and Sonny a chance to talk. Bobbie immediately lashes out at Sonny with a harsh accusation. She just as quickly apologizes when she see that Sonny is also very upset. Sonny tries to comfort her by reminding her that Carly is fighter and wouldn’t give up easily. He also cautions Bobbie that AJ may make a play for Michael in light of Carly's accident.

Kristina shows up with a gift for her sister to show that she accepts the new relationship with Sonny. A distressed Alexis fills Kristina in on the latest development, Carly’s accident. Kris tries to assure Alexis that Sonny does care about her despite his apparent distress over his ex-wife’s possibly fatal accident. Alexis appears irritated with her sister’s concern. After receiving a call from Sonny-she rushes to his side at the accident site.

Down at the bluff, the recovery unit attempts to bring up the car. Jax stands at the rail and watches as the sounds of a helicopter are heard over head and the search lights swivel around. Jax and Sonny watch as the police slowly winch Carly's car out of the lake. As Scott & Bobbie arrive, Zander admits to Sonny that he taught Carly to drive. Sonny lashes out at Zander and questions why he would do such a thing. Jax overhears and informs Sonny that Carly wanted to be independent. Detective Capelli informs those gathered that the car was empty and the drivers side window was down which leads them to hope that Carly escaped the car and is alive somewhere. Later, the detective cautions Bobbie that Carly's survival is still very much in doubt because of the freezing water. Sonny apologizes to Zander for his harsh words (with out actually saying the words “I’m Sorry” though). Zander still blames himself for Carly’s accident. Alexis shows up and watches Sonny from a distance. When he feels her gaze and looks up, she moves to stand next to him at the railing. She offers comfort and encouragement by resting her hand gently on his. Later, as Bobbie and Sonny discuss what to do next, Scott cautions Alexis that no body, while an apparently hopeful sign, can become a long and drawn out emotional drain for all involved.

Bobbie realizes that Michael is missing. Sonny shows up to visit Michael and Bobbie has to tell him that Michael has wandered off or been kidnapped. They immediately both think of AJ and Sonny decides to pay his brother-in-law a visit. Courtney tells AJ that she doesn’t want to believe her brother is capable of something so horrible because she WANTS to have a relationship with him. Sonny arrives and warns A.J. not to use Carly’s accident to try to get his hands back on Michael. Courtney then asks Sonny about his order to have A.J. killed. Despite the fact that Sonny denies there IS a hit, an angry Courtney chooses to believe A.J. She calls Sonny a hypocrite. Sonny receives a phone call and immediately makes his excuses to leave. But before he goes he tells Courtney that he meant what he said to her on her wedding day-all he wants is for her to be happy. Sonny rushes over after Bobbie calls him to report Michael is safe. They both give Michael stern warnings NOT to ever leave the house alone again and are stunned when the little boy announces he saw Carly.

At the PD, Alexis presses Taggert on the search for Carly, hinting that he’s not doing his best because it has to do with Sonny. Taggert insists he’s looking at the facts, and he suggests that Alexis help Sonny accept reality. Another cop brings in a message from someone who claims to have seen Carly in Port Charles. Taggert puts it aside to deal with later, saying he can’t follow up on every crank call, and heads home to rest. When he’s gone, Alexis grabs the message slip and leaves.

Michael claims he saw Carly in the back yard the night before. She told him everything was okay and he should stay with Bobbie. He forgot to tell her something, so he went to the park looking for her. Jax comes in, and Bobbie hugs him with the wonderful news that Carly is alive! Jax appears skeptical of Michael’s story but acts happy for Bobbie’s sake. Sonny adds as he enters the room, she could be upset about something and is cooling off somewhere. She’ll show up eventually, he says. Bobbie leaves the room, determined that they will find her daughter alive. Jax tells Sonny he’s not facing the truth. Sonny insists this isn’t Brenda, Carly is not dead. After Jax has left, Bobbie starts to doubt Michael’s story, but Sonny assures her he will find Carly. Taggert stops in on his way to his apartment in the brownstone to tell them the police have found nothing new. Bobbie informs him that Michael saw Carly. Taggert comments that maybe he should have paid more attention to the tip like Alexis suggested. What tip, Sonny wants to know.

Following up on the lead she swiped from the police station, Alexis enters a building and spots a blonde. Carly? she asks. The woman turns around. It’s not Carly but a lady with an attitude who leaves quickly. Alexis tries to do the same but is stopped by some skinhead who threatens her. Then Sonny shows up and the punk gets all apologetic. Sonny tells him to be on the lookout for Carly, and the guy scurries off. Sonny is upset when he finds Alexis in a seedy section looking for Carly. He reprimands her, but she says, "I am with you through this whole ordeal". Alexis defends what she did by explaining that Taggert wasn’t going to follow up on the lead. Sonny is still upset. I’m going through a lot right now, he says, and I can’t lose you, too. Back at the penthouse, she stumbles on the long lost card that Michael had sent to Sonny for his Birthday. Sonny says, "She must have dropped this." Alexis guesses that Carly was in the PH that night and saw them together. Sonny doesn’t want to accept that and denies that it’s a possibility. He leaves abruptly leaving behind an extremely affected Alexis.

Ned arrives at the penthouse and tries to apologize to a very distracted Alexis. He tells her that he is sorry for expecting her to keep something that big from Sonny-who has only trying to protect his sister. After she accidentally knocks over a lamp, Alexis guiltily confesses that she feels responsible for Carly's accident and why. As Ned tries to reassure Alexis that she was not responsible for the break-up of the Carly’s marriage or the accident Kristina shows up. Ned tells Kristina that Alexis feels responsible. Alexis excuses herself and runs upstairs.

Sonny shows up to see Zander and asks to speak with Zander alone. After Kristina leaves, Sonny questions Zander about the night of Carly's car crash. Zander is angry and upset but hesitant to reveal anything. When Sonny continues to press, Zander finally confesses that Carly left upset because he kicked her out of his bed. Amazingly Sonny holds his temper-barely and continues to question Zander about Carly’s actions that night. Zander finally comes clean about his attraction to Carly, the kiss Carly told Sonny about and the incident the night of Carly’s accident. Struggling to hold back his emotions, Sonny presses Zander for more details and Zander finally confirms that Carly saw Sonny and Alexis is bed together before she came to him. Sonny listens to Zander tells him how Carly saw him and Alexis in bed together then walks out without a word. Zander starts ripping the covers off of his bed and kicking the mattress in a fit of frustration and anger. Alexis shows up at the door and Zander tells her what Carly saw. He claims his share of the blame. Alexis tries to tell him it is not his fault and in his bitter anger he lashes out verbally at her telling her to get out and find Sonny so she can celebrate by taking Sonny back to bed. She walks out and is visibly shaken by the whole encounter. Alexis heads to Carly's office at the club and begins going through her papers hoping in vain to find any evidence that Carly had taken off instead of being in the accident. Jax shows up and tries very hard to console her. Not knowing all of the facts makes it hard, but he sure tries. He gets her in a big hug and she cries on his shoulder telling him it's her fault. When Jax asks about Sonny she tells him she can't talk about Sonny. A phone call has her leaving immediately. She breaks down briefly before walking out with a very concerned Jax left behind.

Meanwhile, Sonny is back at his apartment and imagines Carly walking up the steps to his room. Tracing her footsteps, he looks in his bedroom door and sees the reflection of his bed in the mirror. He sees himself and Alexis on the bed as seen through Carly's eyes. He hears her and Michael wishing him a happy birthday and Carly saying "I love you more than my life." Before he can get too upset, Benny walks in to talk some business. He expresses concern that Sonny's people are not too happy with the way he is handling things. Sonny makes it clear that his people need to stop sharing their opinions and just do what they are paid to do. He also sends one of his men off to find out how the police found out about the aborted hit on A.J. He shares with Benny how strong a survivor Carly is and is adamant that she is alive. After Benny leaves however, Sonny sits defeated on the couch and it is clear that he has his doubts. Later, Sonny is standing at the scene of the accident looking out towards the water when Alexis steps out of the shadows. They stand apart (emotionally it seems, as well as physically) and just stare at each other. The hurt in both of their eyes is very evident as the truth really starts to sink in.

At the crash site, Alexis and Sonny both admit that they have talked to Zander and realize that Carly caught them together. Sonny blames himself, worries about AJ and what he’ll do. Sonny admits aloud that Carly is dead. Sonny continues blaming himself, despite Alexis trying to reassure him that it was just a horrible coincidence, an accident, an unfortunate turn of events. Sonny admits that he had basically been stringing Carly along for nearly a year and this was the culmination of those events. A diver finds a shoe and Sonny confirms it is indeed Carly’s. Sonny and Alexis end the night with him dropping her off at her place and ending up alone in their thoughts.

While AJ, Courtney and Edward are having breakfast, Alexis arrives with a restraining order for AJ. She warns him that if he comes hear Michael again he will land in jail faster than his head can spin. AJ plays the contrite concerned parent but the only one who buys it is Courtney. AJ bravely informs Alexis that IF Carly is dead he intends to seek a change in Michael’s guardianship. He smugly assures Alexis that no court in the world would give custody to a criminal like Sonny. Alexis bursts his bubble (and Courtney’s) when she reminds him that he himself is a criminal. She then tells Courtney that AJ burned down Sonny and Jason’s warehouse. Courtney is appalled when Alexis reveals that AJ signed custody over to Carly in the first place solely to keep himself out of jail. However, AJ manages to get Courtney’s sympathy back by professing that she has changed him. Alexis leaves before she gags on the lovely-dovely scene. Later, Edward heaps praise on AJ for standing up to Sonny’s lawyer. Alexis’ arrival interrupts Ned and Kristina. Alexis is embarrassed by her inopportune intrusion. They all feel uncomfortable and Alexis quickly excuses herself.

Sonny lets himself into Carly’s house and is looking wistfully around when he hears a noise upstairs. He immediately thinks it’s Carly and calls out to her. However, it’s only Bobbie, Michael and Leticia who have come over to pick-up some of Michael things. While Bobbie goes off to pack a lunch to take to the park, Sonny questions Michael more closely about his encounter with Carly in Bobbie’s back yard. It is revealed that Michael isn’t very clear about that night except for one thing-Carly was wearing a crown when he saw her. Sonny is forced to realize that Michael may have dreamt or imagined the whole thing. After getting Leticia and Michael to go ahead to the park, Sonny tries to get Bobbie to talk about the very real possibility that Carly is Dead. Bobbie, still deeply in denial, excuses Sonny’s lapse in belief by saying he is just tired and will buck up again once he gets some rest. Sonny tries to explain about the crown, but Bobbie brushes it off and tries to convince him that she would know in her heart if Carly was dead. They appear to be at an impasse when Jax arrives with news. A body has been recovered from the lake.

At the brownstone, Jax assures Sonny and Bobbie that the body found is Carly's. Bobbie insists that Carly is not dead, again, and also insists she is not in denial. A mother knows. She pulls out Carly's hairbrush and tells them to do a DNA test on the body to prove it isn't Carly.

At the hospital, Sonny wants to see the body in the morgue. The coroner unwraps the body bag and Sonny gags, runs out. Jax says goodbye to Carly. Sonny is in a state of shock and ends up collapsing in the elevator. Sonny, in a Zombie -like trance, heads to the elevator and as the doors shut he sinks to the floor. When his strength returns, he goes to the park. He just sits there in a daze while contemplating his next step. A hand touches his shoulder, and it's Courtney. His Sis has come to comfort him.

Kristina, on the other hand, blurts out to Alexis that Carly's body has been recovered. A shaken Alexis says "I wish I had never met Sonny. He must be grieving so, and what can I do?" Kris asks her if she wishes that she had not had sex with him. Alexis says something about context, and insists that she will stay away from Sonny unless he needs her. She truly breaks down and cries, Kristina empathizes and listens like a devoted sis.

At the Brownstone, Sonny arrives at the Brownstone and Bobbie thanks him for taking care of everything. He admits that he didn't want Bobbie to have to deal with it. Bobbie remembers how Carly hated it when Sonny stepped in and took over, but she is thankful for his help. Bobbie tells Sonny that despite all the fighting, Carly knew that she could trust him. Bobbie informs Sonny that Michael is at the park with Leticia and they talk about how they are going to tell Michael about Carly. Sonny offers to tell him, but would like to have Bobbie present. She assures him that she will support any decision and that she is glad that he is Michael's father and not AJ. AJ would only take advantage of the situation. She knows that Alexis will find a way to keep Michael with Sonny and away from AJ. They agree not to have Michael at the funeral. They talk about custody and Bobbie tells Sonny that he is a wonderful father and will understand completely if he wants Michael with him. As Sonny is leaving Bobbie's, Luke shows up.

A delivery man arrives with a huge bouquet of flowers sent by AJ. Sonny tells the delivery man that he wants the flowers destroyed not given to anyone, but burned. Luke and Sonny talk about how much they hate AJ and Luke tells him that if AJ messes with Bobbie again, he will personally take a bat to his head. Luke tells Sonny that he is thankful that Bobbie has him for a son-in-law because he knows that Sonny will do everything he can to keep Michael away from AJ. Both Sonny and Luke were furious, and Sonny approached the delivery person and demanded that the piece be destroyed at once. Luke supported Sonny about this, offered his somewhat unspeakable "help" regarding A. J., and for once in a very long time, the two men came together during a crisis.

Alexis is busy working, trying to secure Sonny's rights as Michael's father when Kristina arrives with their outfits for the funeral. Alexis announces that given the circumstances and the fact that her and Carly were not the closest of friends, she will not be attending the funeral. Kristina tells her that Carly's death is not her fault and asks her half sister what she thinks Sonny needs right now. Alexis says that the most she can contribute is to make the custody and legal issues less of a problem for Sonny and Bobbie. Kristina concedes and as she is leaving Zander shows up with a suit. She asks if he wants her to stay, but he wants to speak to Alexis alone. He figured that other than Carly, the only person who send him a suit would be Alexis so he wants to know if its to make her feel better for sleeping with Sonny or to make him feel better for kicking Carly out and ultimately causing her death. Alexis tells him that the suit was a gift and that Carly would not want Zander to be blaming herself. He continues to berate himself about his last night with Carly.

Alexis tries to reason with him by saying that he kicked her out because he knew that she truly loved Sonny and only wanted to sleep with Zander to get back at him. Zander reminds Alexis that when they were held hostage by Sorel, Carly fought tooth and nail to save their lives and how do they repay her? Alexis sleeps with the man she loves and he throws her out. Zander apologizes to Alexis saying that he is mad at himself not Alexis and that it was wrong to take his anger out on her. He thanks her for the suit and leaves. Alexis is trying to work some more, but remembers a conversation she had with Carly where Carly is telling Alexis that she couldn't possibly know what Sonny is thinking or feeling because she doesn't love him. A knock at the door and Sonny is standing outside. They talk a bit about Bobbie and how she is handling the situation. Sonny tells Alexis that he has agreed to tell Michael but can't think of how to do it. Alexis tells him to reassure Michael that he will not loose him too. Sonny admits that he doesn't handle death well. He hurts the people around him, pushes them away and shuts down. He vows not to do that to Michael or to Alexis. He shyly admits that he needs her to be around. Alexis reluctantly tells Sonny that she will not be going to the funeral. He says he understands and leaves. Alexis begins to have second thoughts.

At the Church, a very heart wrenching scene involving Sonny. He walks up to the coffin and begins to talk to Carly. He admits that he doesn't know how to tell Michael that his mother is dead but that he will probably say something about angels and heaven. He tells her that since he wasn't able to tell her everything he wanted to when she was alive he will tell her now. He tells her that he forgives her for everything. He tells her that he respects her, that she is loyal, smart, has great instincts and is the bravest person he has ever known. He tells her that he loves her and hopes that one day she will be able to forgive him for what he did to her and that he is sorry for not having the courage to tell her before. He vows that he will honor her wishes and will protect Michael from AJ. Sonny looks up as someone walks into the church.

Against Kristina's advice, Alexis decided to not attend the funeral. Instead, she tried to divert her attention and began to work on the legalities of protecting Sonny's rights concerning Michael. "I think it's best," she said to Kristina. She didn't want to intrude and felt her legal expertise was more helpful to all at this time. As Kristina left the penthouse, Zander showed up with a suit in hand which Alexis admitted having bought for him to wear to the funeral. He was still angry at the entire situation and accused Alexis of buying him the suit to suppress her guilt about what had happened to Carly. He then immediately apologized - he was just so mad at himself. Alexis was frozen with emotion, and Zander thanked her for the suit and left. Shortly thereafter, Sonny came to Alexis's door. Alexis began babbling on about the legal issues, but Sonny told her he didn't need her in that capacity, but for support. "You matter to me," he said. He told her he didn't want to shut down on her or on Michael now. He asked her if she was coming to the funeral. She said she didn't think her coming to the funeral was the "right thing to do." Sonny seemed surprised and disappointed, but hesitantly said he understood and left.

Alexis was an emotional wreck. Sonny headed to the church to "talk" with Carly. He poured out his heart over her casket, telling her, "I respect you, Carly. You're the bravest person I know, and you're the bravest person I'll ever meet. I love you, Carly." He expressed his apologies for everything that had happened and promised her that he wouldn't fail her where Michael was concerned and would keep Michael safe from A. J. who just so happened to arrive at the church in that moment!! He has come to pay his respects before the others arrive. Sonny grants him one minute. A.J. goes up to Carly’s coffin and promises to be there for Michael. Sonny tells him to stay away from Michael then makes some veiled threats, which Jax and Skye hear as they enter the church. Jax tells A.J. to leave, and Skye agrees. After he leaves, Skye goes over to Sonny to express her condolences. She also says she realizes A.J. is out of line, but he is her brother and she doesn’t want to see him hurt. She asks Sonny to call her first if A.J. becomes a major problem, and she will deal with it. She goes to make sure A.J. has left the premises. Jax tells Sonny that Carly was an amazing woman. After he’s gone, Sonny speaks to the coffin: “Looks like the candy boy liked you a little bit, huh? Everybody did, Carly. You’ll be surprised who shows up today.”

For the funeral, it’s a touching scene as music plays as the mourners arrive. The first to arrive at the funeral is Alexis. She tells Sonny she would do anything to bring Carly back. Next a contingent of Sonny’s associates enter and sit near the back. The Quartermaines come in after them, with Edward grumbling about staying away from the thugs. Amy and Tony enter together, with Tony going up to the coffin to pay his respects. Elizabeth comes in alone, but after a moment’s hesitation, she goes to sit with Audrey and Sarah. Felecia, Mac and Maxie take a seat behind Audrey and her granddaughters. Ned and Kristina arrive and sit with Alexis. Mike sits with Sonny in the front pew. Lucky comes in with Laura and Scott and Roy. He glances at Elizabeth and sits in the pew in front of her. Finally, Bobbie and Luke enter the church. Bobbie pauses by the casket for a moment, a bewildered look on her face, then takes a seat in the front pew opposite Sonny. The priest starts the service and asks for family and friends to share their memories of Carly. Jax goes forward first. He says Carly could be ruthless but she always had her reasons. Club 101 was her declaration of independence. She was a woman who loved fiercely. He is glad she was a part of his life.

Next Zander comes to the front of the church. He tells everyone that Carly could be a true friend if she liked you. Most of all, she was brave and never backed away from anything. Luke takes his turn at the pulpit. He says he and Carly didn’t like each other much, probably because they were too much alike. He observes that Carly ripped lives apart but she also loved and was loved. Especially by her mother, he adds, who now has to face the heartbreak of letting her go and learning to live on with just her memory. Bobbie finally goes forward. She starts to talk about giving Carly up on the day she was born and how she showed up one day many years later. Then Bobbie breaks down, as the reality of the situation hits her. Sonny goes up to comfort her. There’s a noise from the back of the church, and everyone turns to look. A confused-looking Carly with a bruise on her forehead has entered the building!

Carly is confused, slowly checks everyone out, starts to ask why everyone is there. She makes her way up the aisle and finally sees the casket and her picture. She runs out. Sonny and Bobbie run after her. Alexis is in shock, starts thanking God. Ned & Kristina are worried about Alexis. She has to catch her breath. Sonny catches up with Carly, who is so confused, thinks she’s dead or something. She has a big contusion on her forehead. Sonny finally convinces her that she is alive, a mistake was made and everything will be all right. They embrace. Bobbie shows up and they embrace as well. Carly is taken to the hospital. Alexis feels much better once Carly is headed towards the ambulance. Roy and Luke make it their mission to answer some of the questions arising after Carly reappeared…what happened to her, whose body is this, why did the DNA match, how did Carly end up at the service?

At Kelly’s, Alexis, Ned & Kristina are there to get something to eat. Leticia and Michael are at the next table: Michael is whining for his mommy. Alexis’ maternal instincts kick in and she goes over to Michael and tells him she saw his mommy and confirms she’ll be back to him soon. He is happy to hear this news. Ned is surprised at Alexis’ treatment of Michael. Kristina asks Alexis how she thinks Carly’s return will affect her relationship with Sonny. Alexis avoids the question. Kristina says it should work out well, the rejected woman did not tragically die. Kristina wonders if her sister even wants Sonny anymore.

Zander wants to wait at the hospital to see Carly, but Sonny tells him another time. Tony reports that Carly has a possible concussion, but is basically fine. Bobbie reassures Carly that Michael is great and will be waiting for her. Carly is grateful. Carly can’t remember much of what happened, she doesn’t know why she left Sonny’s place upset and asks Sonny if he knows specifically what she was upset about. Bobbie comes into the room and Sonny admits that he is worried because she hasn't woken up yet. She assures him that is a good sign. They go outside and talk more about Carly's condition. Bobbie is concerned about Sonny, but he won't leave. He wants to be there when she wakes up. They talk about how Bobbie knew Carly wasn't dead. As Bobbie leaves, Sonny goes back into the room as Carly is waking up from a nightmare. She wants to know why Sonny is there. She tells Sonny that she only remembers the accident itself, but nothing before or after. Just a cabin somewhere. She thinks it was all a dream, but he assures her that she wasn't dreaming and that she was indeed missing. She wants to know why she was driving by the lake and Sonny tells her that she was upset and she wants to know why. Her only memory is leaving the club to give Sonny Michaels b-day card and the rest is blank. Sonny won't fill in the blanks.

Alexis is lost in an article about Carly's reappearance and seems relieved. Ned arrives. She makes it clear that she is busy and doesn't want another "diatribe" from him regarding her obsession with Sonny. Ned states that he actually was looking for Kristina, but now that she mentions it, tells her that he wants to be her friend and help her through what comes next. He will always care about her no matter how wrong she is. He continues to try and get her to talk, but she won't. Reminds her that Sonny has alienated her from her friends and family except Kristina who is really worried about her. Jokingly, Alexis tells him that Kris has made it her hobby to worry about her. She tells him that her choices are hers and no one else’s. Ned asks her what choice Sonny will make. Ned thinks Sonny is still in love with Carly. They agree to disagree and Ned tells her that he just wants her to be happy. She gives Ned and Kris her blessing and kicks him out. She is in a hurry to leave and Sonny shows up. Alexis asks how Carly is doing and after a quick explanation, Sonny gets to the point and wants to know what happens next. He asks Alexis if she wants to forget everything that happened. She says, is that what you want?

Sonny admits that he can't forget because Alexis matters to him. She reminds him of the connection between him and Carly and how hard it must have been for her to hear how far things got between them. Sonny then admits that he still hasn't told her the truth. He wants Carly to be fully recovered before he lays that on her. If she doesn't remember herself, he will have to tell her. Sonny thinks that things should go back to where they were, but Alexis doesn't quite know what that was. She tells him that they were/are both consenting adults who made a decision that had consequences they couldn't even imagine. Sonny says that he will tell her right now how he feels, but Alexis decides she doesn't really want to have the conversation anymore. He thinks she has a right to know how he feels, but she wants to talk about Carly.

Sonny can't find the words to explain his feelings about Carly and wants to know why Alexis is doing this. She tells him its because they are both adults and they need to even if it hurts. Sonny seems uncomfortable with all of the talking and analyzing that Alexis is doing, but does his best to give her what she needs. She is trying hard to make sure that they deal with Carly's return with honesty. She shares that she is worried that there will be well-intentioned lies. She also doesn't want denial or avoidance to mess up their hard won friendship and trust. When asked if he was still in love with Carly he replied that he never stopped loving her. He tells her that he cares about her and doesn't want to lose her friendship. She makes the comment that almost losing Carly made him reevaluate his feelings for her, which he didn't deny. He asks her if being his lawyer would be uncomfortable for her and she says it won't. Sonny tries to stop the conversation for now, but Alexis is determined to talk it through today. She tells him she cares for him deeply and gets a little misty. She's not giving up, she says, just breathing. She then tells him to go home and be with his wife. He walks out. She tries to do paperwork, but can't and goes to the door, but stops and just stands there. Meanwhile Sonny is also trying in vain to get some work done, but can't. There's a knock at the door and he opens it and seems surprised to see Carly standing there.

Alexis walks slowly along the boardwalk reflecting on the recent events. Zander happens along and each asks the other if he/she is OK. Zander asks if she and Sonny are now a “couple”. Alexis tells him it’s not really any of his beeswax, but tells him “no we are not” anyways. She expresses concern for him when he tells her he intends to tell Carly how he feels. Then they both question how the other will react if Sonny and Carly do get back together. Both give vague answers. Before leaving Zander gives Alexis a sincere apology for the nasty things he said to her when they thought Carly was dead.

Sonny is surprised to see Carly at his door but invites her in. She asks if he is all right and when Sonny answers in the affirmative, she says “Thank God” and throws her arms around him. When he finally gets her settled on the sofa with a throw wrapped around her she confesses that she had a bad dream. She dreamt that she found his door open and walked in with the feeling something was terribly wrong. When she woke up she had to be sure he was OK, so she checked herself out of the hospital. Later he finally gets her to tell him how freaked out she was by arriving at her own funeral. They discuss how their perspectives (on several things), have been changed by the accident and her near “death”. Sonny tells Carly that the DNA match was no accident. Carly immediately realizes that AJ probably had something to do with it and is glad he didn’t find her or she might really have ended up at the bottom of the lake. Carly tells Sonny to stay out of it, it is her problem and she will deal with AJ. He warns her not to do anything she will regret.

Carly says she feels as if she has been given another chance and doesn’t want to mess it up. He tells her that he is glad she didn’t really die before he had a chance to forgive her. Carly is stunned and asks if that means he has forgiven her…? Sonny tells Carly that he is going to run out to the market to purchase some ingredients to fix a meal with. Carly is surprised that he is not going to answer her question-has he forgiven her? Sonny promises that once he returns and they eat, he will answer any and all her questions. {Out in the hall} Sonny waits for the elevator. When it finally arrives, Alexis is in it. They greet each other politely. Sonny tells Alexis that Carly is over and he going to prepare dinner for her. They exchange slightly awkward glances and words. Alexis moves away towards her PH but suddenly feels dizzy and has to lean against the wall. Sonny notices, takes her by the arm and asks if she is OK. Alexis assures him that she is fine. Suddenly, Carly opens the door to Sonny’s PH and step out to ask Sonny for something specific. She sees them standing close together and gets that look.

Sonny and Carly talked and she asked if he could forgive her. He talked about how he sometimes forgave Mike. He talked about when Mike was supposed to pick him up and take him out but never showed up. They started kissing and ended up in bed. Later they were laying there, Carly asking about his tattoo, when there was a knock on the door. Carly told Sonny to bring whoever's head it was on a silver platter. Sonny opened the door to Jason, who he was expecting. Jason asked about Carly and Sonny said she was upstairs. Jason said he could come back the next day. No, Sonny said it was okay. He asked if Jason issued his warning to A.J. and Jason said yes. He said Luke had been working him over but Laura stopped him. Sonny said it was too bad. Carly came down and saw Jason. She ran there to stay. He said he was there now.

Kristina saw Alexis and said she looked terrible. She made her sit down and took her temperature. It was normal. Alexis said she didn't have to do this and Kristina said she wanted to look after her big sis. She wrapped a blanket around her and said she was going to get her something from the kitchen. When she left, Alexis looked at her calendar and sat on the stairs, moaning why this had to happen to her.

Sonny walked in to Kelly's to purchase apple turnovers for Carly. Off to the side he noticed Alexis sitting alone. He asked what she was doing there. Alexis told him that she was having breakfast. All of a sudden she became pale and without color. Sonny immediately questioned her about her health and what she had been eating lately. "Let me take you to my doctor to see what's wrong with you." Alexis said she was OK and covered by saying really don't worry I'm fine. How are things with you? Sonny told her about Michael and the party. Alexis was happy for him. Maxi brought over the wrong food to Alexis and she almost could not take the sight of the food. Sonny noticed this right away and asked about her health again. Alexis told him not to worry. "Sonny we are friends about all else, no promises and no regrets." Sonny told Alexis that, "there are a couple things I want to clear up. I don't like to leave things unfinished." Alexis said, "we're friends, why don't you call that finished for now." Sonny agreed as long as she was okay. Alexis sent Sonny off to Carly. As Alexis became more sensitive and sick to her stomach, she began to have concerns about her health too. Alexis made a B-Line to the closest drug store and tried to pick up an in home pregnancy test.

Michael's birthday celebration was going well for him and Sonny and Carly made it happen. Michael and Sonny blew out the candles together and Carly was snapping many digital pictures. Thoughts of what Jax thought still haunted Carly. She asked Michael to go get something from the kitchen. Carly then asked Sonny point blank if he believed her or if he too thought that she had faked the accident. Sonny did not reply instead he mentioned that Michael saw his mom in Bobbie's backyard and was this true. Carly was surprised by this question. Carly told Sonny that she couldn't remember too much surrounding the accident and her memory is all messed up. Sonny told her that he was not trying to start a fight with this here. "I just want to know where you were." Carly questioned Sonny and asked if he wanted to know what else she remembered? "I remember seeing you and Alexis naked in bed together." Sonny's eyes enlarged.

Alexis' trip to the drug store to buy a home pregnancy test is a nightmare. First she runs into the salesman who loudly announces the sale on them. Secondly, she runs into Bobbie. Bobbie can tell something is wrong. She thanks Alexis for her support while Carly was gone. After Bobbie leaves, Scott shows up. She successfully evades Scott finally and manages to purchase the test.

Sonny wonders when Carly's memory came back. She explains there were bits and pieces and wants to know if it was real or if he is going to deny it. He admits it was very real and reminds her that they were divorced, that it was ultimately her decision to get the divorce and that she couldn't have expected him to remain celibate his whole life. He even admits it was only once with Alexis and that they don't have any long-term commitment. She still tries to guilt trip him over and over and is ridiculously angry (if I do say so myself). Her kiss with Zander is nothing compared to his sleeping with Alexis. So what if she tried to make him jealous? She isn't playing games. She even says she might never forget the vision of him and Alexis together. And she may never trust him again. He assures her that she does indeed trust him. After Sonny leaves, Bobbie shows up and tells her daughter there's going to be a party for her and for everyone that stood by Bobbie while Carly was away. Carly tells her to invite Alexis.

In the hallway between Alexis & Sonny's penthouses, Alexis has managed to buy the pregnancy test but she is standing outside her door struggling with the key, when Sonny gets off the elevator. He asks to help. The bag with the test is lying on the ground, with the test exposed!! As Sonny helped her gather her fallen "groceries," he asked her, "What haven't you told me?" Alexis swore to him that she was not avoiding him; she was just trying to make this easier for him, and she was not sorry that "it" happened. At that point, Courtney arrived and interrupted them, saying she had to talk to Sonny right away. Alexis retreated to her apartment and later, alone, she took the pregnancy test and discovered that she was, in fact, pregnant!

In the penthouse, Sonny and Courtney had a confrontation regarding A.J., and Courtney defended A.J., but listened closely as Sonny explained the depths of A.J.'s latest wrongdoings where Carly was concerned. Courtney refused to believe A.J. was capable of such actions. Courtney suggested a meeting amongst the four adults involved (Sonny, Carly, A.J. and Courtney), but Sonny refused. Courtney, obviously frustrated by this, threatened Sonny and said that if he hurt A.J., she would be his enemy forever.

On the docks, Jason met up with a guy who had seen a woman in a diner after the "accident". Jason confirmed with the man that it was, in fact, Carly. Jason asked the man, "Did she order a chili dog, toasted bun, double order of cheese fries?" According to the informant, she had. Jason then knew what Carly had done. Loaded with information, Jason showed up at Carly's door, telling her he knew she faked her death and that Sonny should know. Carly was stunned. At the same time, Sonny surprised a newly pregnant Alexis by showing up at her door. Sonny shows up at Alexis’ door, wanting to see if she’s all right. She evades his questions and won’t let him in (mindful of the positive pregnancy test on her coffee table). He observes that she’s acting strange and she should really tell him what’s on her mind before she over thinks things like she usually does. Sonny confronts Alexis in her doorway and wants to know if she's ok. He tells her that she's acting strange and he thinks something is going on. She tells him to stop hovering she's fine. She tells him she'll see him at the party and he leaves.

She goes back to her pregnancy test and hides the box just as Jax walks in and startles her. Alexis and Jax get into it over her relationship with Sonny and she tells him that things will remain the same like nothing happened. Jax asks what happened. Alexis goes on and on but doesn't actually tell him but he gets the picture. She tells him that the lines with their friendship and something else got blurred. She says that she didn't want it to go further and they are ill suited for each other. Jax says she's rationalizing it and he wants to know how she feels. She wants things to go back to the way they were before and not having a line-blurring relationship with a client. Alexis says she’s relieved Carly’s back. She goes upstairs to change for the party, leaving a satisfied Jax behind. She asks Jax to escort her to Carly's party. Jax agrees and she goes to change.

Jason tells Carly he knows that she faked her death because a guy identified her and told him what she was eating and he knew. She breaks down and confesses and tells him the whole story of how she went wide on the curve and her car hit the water. She was numb and cold and could barely move but somehow she got out and got to safety but has no idea how long she was in the water. She said she found a summer cabin and she broke in and stayed there a few days because she was drifting in and out. She said she went into town to find a payphone to call her mom but then she saw the newspaper about her being missing and decided to stay away longer to get back at Sonny. She said when she heard that they had found "her body" she went back. She swears she didn't fake her death but she did stay missing longer than she actually was. Jason is furious and tells her that Sonny will be very angry and that if she doesn't tell him he will. She asks him if he knows that Sonny and Alexis slept together and he says yes. She says she was hurt and it ripped her heart out but as soon as she found out they found her body (which she says she had no part in and doesn't know how that happened) she came straight back. She tells Jason that Sonny has really forgiven her for turning him into the Feds and begs Jason to stay quiet and let them be happy. Carly wants to tell him her own way. Jason reluctantly agrees. He tells her that it will all blow up in her face like it always does. Sonny shows up and Jason reminds her that she better tell him then leaves. Carly and Sonny get cozy and start kissing. They end up laying on the bed and discussing the accident. Carly tries to tell him what happened but the two share an intimate moment and she decides not too. She apologizes for putting him through everything. The two leave for the party.

Outside the diner, Carly and Sonny arrive. Carly sends Sonny inside without her, claiming she needs a minute to collect herself. Then she pulls out her cell phone and tries to call Jason but can’t find him. Jax and Alexis arrive. Carly wants to talk to Alexis alone. Inside, Sonny greets Jason and asks if the lead on the guy who saw Carly panned out. Outside, Carly tells Alexis to stay away from Sonny. “There’s nothing you have to offer that I can’t give him,” she snipes and starts to walk away. Alexis says, half to herself, “I wouldn’t bet on that.” Carly hears and turns back. Carly asks what Alexis could give Sonny that Carly can't Alexis tries to avoid Carly, but Carly grabs her arm and as Alexis pulls away she falls. Ned, Jax, Kristina, and Sonny all rush outside. Alexis said she was okay, she slipped and fell. They all looked at Carly and she denied doing anything, that she didn't push Alexis. Alexis told everyone she was okay, don't fuss. Jax asked to escort Carly inside to her party and Carly refused at first, looking at Sonny. Sonny said to go ahead, it was her party. She went inside and Sonny hovered over Alexis. Finally he went in and Alexis told Kristina and Ned that she needed to see a doctor, she just hadn't wanted to make a fuss. The Doctors checked Alexis out. Alexis told the doctor she couldn't be x-rayed, she was pregnant. He examined her and assured her the baby was okay, but asked that see an ob-gyn as soon as possible. She said she had already made an appointment. Back at her penthouse Kristina tries to get Alexis to drink some wine but she doesn't. Alexis pours the wine into a plant on the table. She says fine and just wants to be alone. Ned and Kristina leave her alone and go back to the gatehouse for the night. After they left Alexis sat by the fire and was telling her baby that they would be okay by themselves.

Back at the party, Sonny and Jax separately question Carly about Alexis fall. Sonny asks Jason about the guy that might have a lead on where Carly was. Jason covers for Carly but warns her it won't continue. Sonny is determined to find out what happened to Carly. Carly thanks everyone for coming to her Party and leaves with Sonny. Carly said she still didn't like the idea that he slept with Alexis. Sonny told her that it was only once and it wouldn't happen again. He said that Alexis was his friend, though, and to treat her with respect.

Later, Jason shows up and they start talking about Carly's disappearance. Jason explains that some of the summer cabins were broken into and that someone spotted her eating at a diner. Sonny makes a joke about her eating habits. They talk about the distance between PC and where Carly supposedly was hiding out. Sonny muses that Carly could have been in the waters for hours thinking she was drowning, but Jason reminds Sonny that she was alright. Sonny admits to Jason that him and Carly now have a second chance at happiness and they might even try to have another baby (enter Alexis!) Jason and Sonny continue to talk about the coffee warehouse when Jason tells Sonny that he is done traveling and is home for good. Sonny asks Jason what took him so long. Jason explains that while he was traveling he was trying to figure things out and then started thinking about PC and about the people he loves and if they needed him. When he got the call about Carly, Jason explains, he knew it was time to come home. Sonny finds a contract that he needs Alexis to sign and rushes next door, leaving Jason to deal with Carly. Carly shows up and when Jason tells her that Sonny is at Alexis's he quickly points out that it is business. She relaxes and asks if he told Sonny. Jason tells Carly not to worry, he backed up her story. He further tells Carly not to screw anything up with Sonny. They have a second chance, don't blow it. Carly thanks Jason and tells him that she knows how she got what she wanted and they hug.

Alexis is waiting for Dr. Meadows to show up and begins looking around at the baby stuff. When the doctor arrives, she asks Alexis general pregnancy questions (nausea, dizziness etc). Then Dr asks Alexis about the father of the baby. Alexis tells her that he doesn't know and she isn't going to tell him. Dr asks if she thinks that is the right decision. Alexis explains that the father is with someone else now and that she all decisions are hers and hers alone. She explains to the DR, that she is not exactly a maternal person. Dr tells Alexis that she will no longer be an independent woman and if there is any thought to terminating the pregnancy, she must start thinking seriously about it now. Back at home Alexis is talking out loud to the baby. She explains to the unborn child, that although she doesn't know exactly what she is doing, she is a very quick study and will give the child everything she can, but, boy or girl, you will not be playing with guns no matter who your father is. She muses to herself if being a mobster is genetic. There is a knock at the door and Alexis quickly cleans up the baby stuff, minus a book that she leaves on the floor. She opens the door and Sonny asks if she is alright. She says she is, but he knows better and after going into the apartment tells her that he can help her with whatever is going on.

Zander is standing outside Sonny's open door and sees Carly & Jason embracing lovingly and talking about how much they’ve missed each other. Carly says she really needs him and no one understands her like he does. When they hug again, Zander loses it, busts in and starts yelling, reminds her that she told him the same stuff a few weeks ago. Carly tells him he doesn’t understand her relationship with Jason and that they’ve known each other a lot longer than she’s known him. Zander suggests she sleeps with Jason, just like she wanted to sleep with him. Jason starts yelling at Zander, telling him he has a big mouth.

At Alexis’ penthouse, Sonny tries to find out what is wrong with Alexis. She explains that she doesn’t have to share everything in her life with him. She manages to kick the “Becoming a Parent” brochure that is laying in plain sight on the floor under a table and out of the way before he can see it. She tries to get Sonny to leave but he announces he isn’t going to leave until she tells him what her problem is. She refuses to tell him, wants him to back off. He tells her there has to be something he can do. They overhear Jason, Carly, and Zander arguing. ”Enough!” Sonny yells at them. Zander tells Sonny that Jason is backstabbing him. Zander tells him that Carly and Jason are sleeping together. Sonny tells them they aren’t going to discuss this in the hall so he ushers everyone back into his penthouse. Sonny asks Zander what he wants. Zander says he wants the last year of his life; he feels he’s been loyal to Sonny and gotten nothing in return, that Sonny doesn’t trust his word on anything. Sonny explains that Jason is much more loyal than Zander. He asks Jason straight up in front of Zander if he has been disloyal and Jason says no. That’s sufficient for Sonny. Zander calls him a fool—TWICE. Sonny doesn’t take this lightly and tells Zander he’s a liability, he runs off at the mouth and he can’t be trusted with his wife. Carly tries to take some blame for her situation with Zander, but Sonny isn’t interested in hearing her side. Zander asks where all this loyalty crap has gotten him and Sonny says it’s gotten him one month’s severance pay. He’s fired. Sonny tells Zander to basically forget the last year happened. Zander leaves, saying, “It’s like I was never here.”

Outside the elevator, Alexis suggests Zander come inside her apartment and calm down. He isn’t interested. He tells her that they are both redundant, that Sonny’s got Carly to sleep with and Jason to be his right-hand man. Alexis suggests that Zander is better off by being fired, he can go to college and get a real job. He realizes that Sonny made promises he never intended to keep and mentions to Alexis that she is scared, that he probably made promises to her, too. With that, the elevator arrives and Zander gets on.

Carly tries to plead Zander’s case to Sonny, she reminds him that Zander was loyal. Sonny explains to her that he was never going to learn. Jason tries to explain to her, too, that Zander never knew when to shut up. When Sonny refuses to listen to Carly, she decides to run after Zander. She thinks he’s been a good friend, but Sonny just laughs. She is annoyed and leaves. Sonny and Jason discuss Zander. Jason never liked him, was annoyed by him. Sonny is surprised that Zander elicited such a reaction out of Jason because he usually doesn’t care much about people. Knock knock. It’s Mike, who says hello, welcome back to Jason and explains that he needs to talk about Courtney. Jason leaves to go after Carly. Mike tries to get money out of Sonny, mentions that he played the stock market and his funds are all tied up. Sonny gets pissed off and tells him he’s being played with this stock market tip. He yells, tells Mike he can’t be trusted and orders him to stay out of it, he’ll take care of it. Mike leaves.

Back to Alexis’ apartment, Alexis confirms for Sonny that AJ has no access to money. Sonny explains to her that he can’t trust Mike so he writes a large check that he wants Alexis to give to Courtney. He knows she wouldn’t accept it from him. He explains how important family is to him, nothing is more important. Sonny also explains that Zander is definitely out and agrees that it might be the best thing for him. Alexis asks if Sonny ever wanted out when he was Zander’s age. He said he did wonder what it would be like, but it was never a possibility. He reminds her again of the importance of family.

Alexis arrives at Kelly's with check in hand. She passes it to Courtney who is about to hand it back, when AJ tells her to listen to Sonny's offer. Alexis explains that Sonny is aware of their situation and that the money has no strings attached. After ripping up the check Courtney informs Alexis that what Sonny means and what he says are two different things and that he just wants to be the hero. She tells her brother's lawyer that if Sonny wants to be the hero and help than let AJ see his son. Alexis listens intently as Courtney explains her feelings and emotions about growing up without knowing her father. Alexis agrees to pass the message onto Sonny and leaves. Alexis is staring at the check that Sonny wants to give Courtney and he asks her what's wrong. She says that she finds it amazing how he can be so generous and perceptive one minute and completely obtuse the next. Sonny wants Alexis to be honest with him so they can start dealing with the problem. She starts to explain that its difficult, when Sonny interjects and asks if its about him and Carly getting back together. Frustrated she tells him that he is the most self-obsessed person she knows and that just because she's upset or there's something wrong, doesn't always mean that its about him. She tells him that she's happy for him. Sonny is about to respond when they hear a commotion outside the apartment.

We learn that Johnny has refused to allow Ned inside and Ned is demanding to see Alexis. Alexis tells Johnny that just because Sonny is in her apartment it doesn't give him the right to ever screen her visitors. Ned comes in. Alexis tells him that it is not a good time and rushes out after Sonny says, We're not finished. Sonny asks Johnny to accompany Alexis to her car and Ned decides to stay behind and talk to the mob boss. Ned senses trouble in paradise between Sonny and his trusted attorney. Ned asks Sonny to please tell him what's bothering Alexis, he knows something is and he also knows that Sonny knows what it is. Sonny responds by saying that if there is something wrong with Alexis then ask her. Ned reminds Sonny how he destroyed Brenda's character and begs him not to do that to Alexis. Again, Sonny tells Ned to ask Alexis if he thinks something is wrong, Sonny isn't saying anything. He walks away and leaves an angered Ned. Jason arrives to see Sonny and tells his boss that Rosco is back in town. Sonny states that Rosco is a fool and that someone that crazy needs to be stopped. Jason leaves, after assuring his boss he will take care of it.

Later, Alexis arrives back at her apartment and as she's fumbling with her keys, Ned pops out. She's surprised to see him still there. He was wondering the same thing. He follows Alexis into the penthouse. He starts in on her again about knowing something is wrong and that it has to do with Sonny. She tells him that despite what he thinks, Sonny fiercely cares and protects those he considers family. Ned explains that Sonny doesn't protect, he controls. There's a difference. Alexis tried to tell him to leave, but he refuses and continues to remind her who Sonny really is underneath it all. Now that he's back with Carly, where does that leave you, he asks. Alexis asks, why are you doing this? Because for the first time, in a long time, you seem to be listening. He finally leaves.

Alexis is drinking a glass of milk, which she admits she would only drink for the baby. Alexis is reading everything she can get her hands on re: pregnancy and childbirth. She has a heart to heart with her unborn child and tells it that its’ father is an honorable man, and that nothing is more important to him than family. She also mentions that they will be fine alone, but that she doesn’t have the right to keep Sonny from his child, nor does she want to try. The following conversation ensues, between mom/baby: "As an officer of this court and your mother, I have a right to protect you. However, you have a right to know who your father is and he has a right to know you. I know that he will care about you and love you and I also know that I have to tell him now before I change my mind." She hesitates, but gets up and goes over to Sonny's. After knocking, she waits and Sonny finally arrives. We see Carly observing from the staircase through a mirror and overhear Alexis saying that she is sorry to bother him, but she has something important to tell him and it can't wait.

Unfortunately, she interrupts Sonny and Carly just as they are about ready to do the horizontal mambo. Carly listens from the top of the stairs as Alexis tells Sonny that she has something very important to tell him – alone. Carly’s insecurities resurface and she sails down the stairs to link her arms around Sonny and asks if their conversation can wait. Alexis backs off and walks back to her penthouse. Sonny mentions getting something to eat and takes off for a shower. Carly takes the opportunity to call Alexis and taunt her about their one night stand being it – the end, finito. So stop chasing my man!! Alexis states that Carly’s paranoia is running wild again and hangs up on her. Carly goes upstairs to dress as Jason enters and tells Sonny that Zander ratted him out. Jason and Sonny step into the hall to discuss this latest turn of events even as Alexis makes up her mind once again to tell Sonny the truth. As she starts to leave her apartment, she overhears their discussion of betrayal and of the consequences of being a traitor. As she leans against the door, she tells her child that she was wrong, that the baby’s father is a criminal and that sharing her child with him would be dangerous to them both.

Carly hurries to Alexis’ door. When Alexis answers, Carly pushes her way in and tells Alexis that she needs to move so Jason can move back in. Carly gives Alexis the name of a real estate agent and urges her to move as far away as possible to avoid further embarrassing herself over Sonny. Carly tells Alexis that not only does Sonny no longer want Alexis but he belongs to her (Carly). Alexis asks why Carly is so worried and jealous-if what Carly says is true. Alexis points out that Sonny wouldn’t appreciate Carly referring to him as property. She manages to add that Carly’s only way of getting Sonny back was to drive over a cliff in a pathetic attempt for attention.

Alexis remains undecided whether to tell Sonny about the baby. In a funny scene Alexis daydreams herself as a witness on the stand in court. She also is the questioning attorney and is there for questioning herself. She is brought out of the daydream when she receives a call that makes her rush out. Zander is brought into the ER. Alexis arrives at GH and Ned implies that Sonny is responsible for Zander’s beating. Alexis defends Sonny, as usual and as usual Ned accuses her of being in denial. Alexis starts to walk away but drops her pursue and several things spill out. Ned helps her pick them up, and then they stop arguing and stand close by Zander’s beside. Unseen by either Kristina approaches. When she sees them standing close together, her insecurities resurface and she walks away with out speaking to them. Alexis asks Zander who beat him. Zander doesn’t answer. Alexis asks if Sonny is responsible, but again Zander says nothing. Out by the nurses’ station, a nurse hands Ned something and tells him his friend (meaning Alexis) dropped it when she dropped her purse. Ned looks at the item-a bottle of prenatal vitamins. Alexis becomes frustrated at the realization that Sonny is truly a cruel and immoral man and she has Ned take her home. As for her pregnancy, Alexis and her doctor aren't the only ones that know about it now, since Ned picked up the Prenatal Vitamins that she had dropped in the hospital.

Alexis went to Sonny and officially gave notice of her move at the month's end. He asked her if it was because of what she thought he did, and Alexis told him it was because of what she knew he did. He asked if it had anything to do with Carly, and Alexis said that her decision was not based on Carly. "I'm looking to my future and it feels right." Sonny was obviously upset, but responded, "Good for you." He likes her right across the hall. Ned & Alexis took off together after Alexis assured Ned she was positive about going with him to their destination. Shortly thereafter, Ned's car overheated. His cell phone was out of juice, and Alexis had forgotten to bring hers. As he tried to evaluate the damage, the two talked about business (she recently took over as attorney for L&B), as well as their renewed friendship. Eventually, Ned realized the radiator hose had sprung a leak, and they would need to call for help. A storm began to roll in, so they decided to head a mile down the road to Nikolas' old house to use the phone. They arrived there wet and cold, but Nik's phone was dead. Ned, knowing of and concerned about her pregnancy, insisted on comforting Alexis by getting her warm and offering her a brandy. He then slipped and said, "Oh, I forgot, you aren't allowed …", and he tried to cover for what he had said. However, Alexis seemed to realize that Ned knew she was pregnant, and she asked, "You know I'm pregnant, don't you?" Meanwhile, a worried Kristina showed up at Sonny's looking for Alexis. After giving him the rundown on where she had already looked, Sonny assured her he would check it out and keep her posted. She left very disturbed, and Sonny felt the same way.

Still trapped in the cottage by the storm, Ned explains to Alexis how he uncovered her secret. She confirms that it is Sonny’s baby and gives Ned a chance to say I told you so when she berates herself for not seeing Sonny’s true persona sooner. Alexis tells Ned that she has no intention of telling Sonny about the baby. Ned tells Alexis how much he and Brook Lyn have missed out on by living apart for so long. After Jason reports that they found Alexis’ car broken on the road close to Brenda’s old cottage, Sonny goes to check the cottage himself. Once he arrives, he peers in through the window and is dismayed to see Ned and Alexis wrapped in a blanket, apparently sharing a close moment. Sonny jumps to the wrong conclusion and retraces his steps.

After dinner, while Sonny is in the kitchen preparing dessert, Carly receives and upsetting phone call from Dr. Meadows. The good Doctor informs her there is a complication-Carly can't get pregnant. Sonny presents her with dessert, which includes a paper declaring that the divorce never went through and they are still married. She bursts into tears. He tries to explain that this is a good thing. She says she knows that, she was just surprised and starts to tell him about talking to Dr. Meadows, but in the end, she lies and tells him that Dr. Meadows gave her the okay.

At Nikolas’ old house, Ned tells Alexis he stands behind her decision not to tell Sonny she’s pregnant. Alexis pleads with Ned not to tell Kristina that she is pregnant, hoping to prevent excessive doting and/or Kristina’s loose lips. Ned says he will do what she wants, but points out that once she starts showing, it will become pretty obvious to all that she is pregnant. He tells her that she really needs to have a plan if she intends to hide this from Sonny. Alexis says she hasn’t had time to completely formulate a plan but the first step is moving out. She mentions potentially fabricating a scenario about another man, old lover or new lover. Ned uses this opportunity to tell her that he thought he might still have feelings for her and wanted to spend time alone with her to see if this was the case. Alexis is worried that he is going to say that he does indeed still have feelings for her, but Ned assures her that he only cares about her as a friend. In fact, he tells her she is the last person in the world he would ever have a relationship with. Gee, thanks. As Ned vows to tell Kristina the news that he knows he is officially over Alexis, there is a knock on the door. A repairman is there with the news that their car has been fixed. They wonder who called the repairman, but he isn’t telling. Some good Samaritan, they muse.

Over breakfast Alexis gives Kristina the bare facts version of being trapped in the cottage. Kristina says she believes Alexis is telling her the truth, but also believes that Alexis is withholding something. Alexis then tells Kristina that she needn’t worry about Ned because he really cares about Kristina. Alexis goes into detail about how Ned couldn’t stop talking about Kristina during their time together. She just about has Kristina convinced when she makes the mistake of saying Ned thinks her belief in feng shui is very interesting. Kristina knows Alexis is lying because the one thing she is sure of is that Ned hates the very concept.

After an initial meeting with her doctor at Mercy Hospital, Alexis sits in the reception area and fills out forms. Suddenly she hears a familiar voice, Carly's, saying she needs to be checked in. Alexis arrives at Kelly's to find Sonny waiting for her. Sonny thanks her for coming and tells her it is important. Alexis wonders why Sonny isn’t at the hospital with Carly. They says she just came from there and saw Carly checking in. Sonny hurries to Mercy Hospital to check on Carly, who concocts a story to cover the real reason she was admitted.

Carly sees Alexis at the hospital, she hides and later sneaks Alexis chart off the nurse's station. Before she can read it, Sonny comes along and asks if there is any word on her "headaches"? He wants to see the chart, assuming it is hers. She says, "NO!" He looks at her concerned but she covers saying in her impatience to get results she has grabbed someone else's chart. She put it back on the desk.

Ned and Alexis at the Grille. She laments that this pregnancy is turning her into a hypochondriac as she is running to the doctor for every little twinge. Ned was comforting her and Kristina came in. Of course she thinks something is really going on between them as she sees them sitting with Ned's arm around Alexis, comforting her. Alexis assures her that it is just friendship and rushes back to Mercy for her lost appointment book. She runs into Sonny. Alexis said she had a client there and then the doctor came out with her book. Sonny left and Carly was eavesdropping, as usual, and heard Alexis talk about being pregnant.

Carly sneaks into Dr. Bond's office to look at Alexis' record. She didn't find the answers she was looking for, because Alexis' file didn't contain information about the father of her baby. Suddenly, Carly hears someone at the door and hides behind a chair. Dr. Bond's and Alexis enter the room as Carly tries to shrink further behind the chair.
