Sonny & Carly #26 January 15 - February 27, 2004 - 8 hr original edit
Jason asks Cameron for answers as to why Carly was drugged. Cameron tells him that he never prescribed any drugs for her and didn't really want her to commit herself to begin with. Jason tells him that either he or the other doctor is lying and that he is taking Carly out of there. Cameron points to the window in Carly's room and asks him if he thinks it is a good idea when Jason sees Carly put her arm out lovingly and talk to herself as if someone is there with her. Carly hallucinates that Alcazar is there with her and he is telling her to come with him and not to trust Jason. Jason goes in to see Carly. A nurse comes in to inject Carly with another sedative and Jason walks in. Carly smiles at Jason but hallucinates that Alcazar is there telling her not to trust Jason who is keeping them apart. As the nurse tries to inject Carly, Carly stabs Jason with the needle instead and surprises him as the drug is injected into him.
He starts to get weak from the effects. Carly screams and yells to keep them from holding her in the bed. She sees Jason laying on the floor and realizes what she did. She runs over to him and pleads with him not to die on her. Cameron shows up and asks what is going on. Dr. Grimes comes in and tells Cameron that Carly stabbed Jason with a needle and accuses him of not notifying her of how severe Carly's condition was when he admitted her. Cameron finds out what drug was in the syringe meant for Carly and confronts Dr. Grimes. He asks her why she would give Carly a sedative with such a high dosage and reminds her that Carly came here voluntarily and had herself committed. Dr. Grimes tries to cover her culpability by switching the blame to Cameron for not having a better handle on his patient who definitely needs to be transferred to Ferncliffe, which is for the criminally insane. Carly overhears the word Ferncliffe and gets agitated again and says she won't go there and they can't make her. Cameron tries to assure her that she won't be going there. He threatens to report Dr. Grimes to the Medical Review Board for medical misconduct if he finds out she is giving Carly any more drugs without his consent. Dr. Grimes tries to defend her actions by saying she did what she thought was in the best interests for Carly and her staff's safety since Carly did stab her own friend with a needle.
Cameron orders the attendants to bring Jason to one of the empty rooms and prescribes a drug that will act as an antidote for the drug he received when he was stabbed and that once it wears off Jason should be fine. Dr. Grimes agrees to let Jason rest somewhere. Cameron tells everyone to leave him alone with Carly. Carly starts to hallucinate again and sees Alcazar, who tells her not to trust anyone including Dr. Lewis. When Cameron goes to touch her she backs away and blames him for what happened to her and that she won't go to Ferncliffe, which "Alcazar" tells her in her hallucination the doctors will send her. Cameron tries to reassure her that he won't let them send her to Ferncliffe. "Alcazar" tells her that she should tell Cameron she is tired and needs to rest so he will leave her alone for a while. She tells Cameron she wants to go to sleep. He tells her that is a good idea and that they will talk tomorrow after the drug wears off.
Jason is brought to any empty room. The nurse comes in to give Jason the other drug Cameron prescribed for him to help counteract the effects of the other sedative. Faith, dressed as a doctor comes in and tells the nurse that she has been brought up to speed by Dr. Grimes on Jason's predicament and that she got Dr. Grimes' permission to take over his case and orders the nurse not to give Jason the other drug. Faith walks in and takes off the lab coat. A groggy Jason lays there. Faith tells him she has him where she wants him and that she always liked him because he is the only man who ever really scared her. She tells him she might sleep with him and accuse him of rape and that she will be able to manipulate him into doing what she wants. She starts to undress Jason. He grabs her hand and pushes it away. He pushes her out of the bed and runs out of the room. She calls out to the attendants to try and stop him.
Faith visits Carly who is drowsy from sleep. Dr. Grimes comes in and injects another hallucinatory drug into Carly while Faith sits at her bedside. Carly starts to moan in her sleep after crying out when she is injected again. She calls Sonny's name out. Faith tells her that Alcazar is the man who loves her and that Sonny is gone and won't be coming back. Carly tells her that Sonny loves her and will come back for her. Faith gets annoyed when Carly continues to call out for Sonny and not Alcazar. Alcazar asks Max to go find Jason and insists on talking to him. Max just laughs at him and tells him Jason is too busy. Alcazar tells him that Jason promised to check in on his niece and make sure she was doing o.k. Max just shuts the door and locks it. Alcazar starts to bang on the door for the guard later. He overhears Sonny's guards talking about how Jason had to deal with a crisis at the hospital where Carly was committed and that she went over the edge.
Sonny and Jax find just a sword sticking out of a rock and wonder where Sam is. Jax thinks someone took her and some of the treasure. Sonny suggests that Sam may have left on her own. Jax insists on going to look for her. Sonny goes back to the small cabin. He finds Sam sitting on the bed. Sonny tells Sam that Jax went looking for her. Sam decides to go and look for Jax when Sonny refuses to go chasing after him during a storm. Sam accuses Sonny of being the cold mobster everyone said he was when he shows no concern for Jax's safety and realizes he must really hate Jax after all. Sonny tells her he doesn't disagree with the notion that he hates Jax but that isn't what this is all about. He asks her why she is willing to risk her life for the treasure. Sam asks him why he seems so interested in her life and tells him she can take care of herself. Sonny refuses to let her take off on her own.
Alcazar overhears the guards say that Carly is in an institution. Faking illness, he lures a guard into his room and knocks him unconscious. He then escapes the safehouse and goes after Carly. Faith continues to try and alter the mind of a drugged Carly. Carly fights Faith's attempts to manipulate her, and begins to choke and attack her instead. As Faith runs from the room, she's spied by Cameron. Meanwhile, a drugged Jason stumbles around his loft as Courtney tries to get through to him. He kisses her and tells her he loves her, and then tries to leave, but can't walk. Courtney continues to attempt to help him and he finally begins to come out of his drugged state. Cameron calls them and tells Jason that he saw Faith in Carly's room at the institution. Jason and Courtney take off to rescue Carly.
Back at the hospital, the doctors drug Carly again to get her to stop attacking people. In her near-unconscious state, she crawls out of bed and into the hallway where she once again encounters Faith. Faith demands that Carly be transferred to Ferncliff, and the doctors return her to her room and sedate her even more. As Faith stands over Carly and continues to try and manipulate her mind, she is grabbed by Alcazar. Suddenly, Jason and Courtney show up to find Faith drugged and in a straitjacket in Carly's bed. As they try to get her to tell them what happened, an unseen Alcazar carries Carly out of the hospital.
Sonny rescues Sam and takes her back to the cabin where he angrily tells her he's not helping her again. He demands she stay with him until his pilot can pick them up. Suddenly, Jax stumbles into the cabin and collapses. He's conscious, but he's been shot. He admits that he was searching for the treasure to give to Sam. Seeing his condition worsen, and despite his protests, Sonny removes the bullet from him in order to save his life. Sam is incredibly grateful to him, and Sonny tells her that he did it for her.
Faith tells Jason and Courtney that Alcazar took Carly from the hospital. Jason orders his men to find Alcazar. When the hospital guards show up, Faith begs them to let her go, but Jason and Courtney play along as though she's really the patient ready for a transfer to Ferncliff. They go back to the penthouse to meet with Justus in order to tell him they had Faith committed and that its his job to keep her there. Justus says he'll do what he can regarding Faith, but points out to Jason that it seems that Alcazar actually rescued Carly rather than kidnapped her. Cameron comes by to sign release papers to clear Carly from Shadybrooke, and they realize the effects of the drugs that Carly is on.
Alcazar takes a heavily drugged Carly to his safehouse and swears he'll keep her away from danger. Carly tells him that she loves him, and Alcazar is thrilled until he realizes that Faith has attempted to brainwash her. A confused Carly begins to cry, and begs not to be taken back to the institution. Alcazar realizes that she's completely delusional and seeing visions of him. He promises to take care of her. After giving Carly a bath and putting her in bed, the two begin to kiss. Suddenly, Carly flips out and pushes him away, realizing that she doesn't want him even if her head tells her that she does. Alcazar is troubled to see her pain, and apologizes for what he's put her through. He vows to let her go for her own sake, but can't bring himself to notify Jason of her whereabouts.
Carly regains consciousness in the Safe House with Lorenzo and asks if they hit the sheets together. Lorenzo assures Carly that nothing transpired between them. Lorenzo goes on to explain that he was aware that Carly was strung out on drugs she had received at the Hospital and didn't want to take advantage of her impaired condition. Lorenzo then tells Carly that she is free to walk out the door, but asks Carly if she loves him. Carly admits that she is not sure about her feelings. Carly tells Lorenzo that she is determined to go home and Carly gets dressed. However, as Carly is about ready to leave, she suddenly collapses and Lorenzo catches her. Just as Lorenzo catches Carly, Jason bursts into the door with his gun drawn. Carly jumps in front of Lorenzo and begs Jason not to shoot! Carly tells Jason to put the gun away and defends Alcazar and tells Jason that Alcazar didn't hurt her and helped get her out of the hospital. Jason puts the gun away and asks her why she didn't call him when she got to Alcazar's. Carly tries to explain that she couldn't but Jason cuts her off and tells her that he can't do this anymore with her and tells her she is on her own from now on. Carly worries about Jason telling Sonny about her. She tries to explain to him why she has to leave and go back to her family. He tells her to go home before Sonny gets there and hears from Jason first.
Sonny calls the penthouse from the plane. Michael answers the phone. He asks him how everyone is. Michael blurts out that Carly isn't home and that she went away for a while and he doesn't know where she went. Carly walks into the penthouse and sees Michael and realizes who he is talking to. She grabs the phone from him and asks Sonny to come right home. Sonny asks her where she went off to and is concerned about her. Carly asks him to come home so she can talk to him about it. Carly calls Alcazar to tell him she needs to meet with him at the lake house and talk. Courtney overhears Carly on the phone with Alcazar and corners her about it. Carly tells her that she isn't going to leave Sonny for Alcazar and that she is just going go see Alcazar to tell him goodbye. She asks Courtney to let her do this and promises her that she will come right back. Jason returns and Courtney tells him she saw Carly and that she went off to talk to Alcazar again and tried to stop her but couldn't do it. Jason starts to worry about Carly and the mistakes she is making with her marriage. She tells Jason that she believes Carly loves Sonny and will choose her family over Alcazar.
Sonny thinks that Alcazar kidnapped her again. Courtney tries to explain Carly's actions but Sonny cuts her off and asks Jason where Carly is. Jason tells him that she went to meet Alcazar at his lake house and gives him the address. Carly goes to the lake house and tells Alcazar that she came to say goodbye and to assure him she doesn't hate him but that she loves Sonny and her family and needs to be with them and that may mean she can never see him again. Alcazar kisses her and she lets him but Sonny walks in the door and sees the kiss. Carly turns around to leave and sees Sonny and realizes what he saw the kiss. Carly turns around and sees him. She tells him it isn't what it looks like and to let her explain. Sonny doesn't want to hear it and tells her that they are through and she can stay with Alcazar if she wants to. Sonny walks out.
Alcazar tells her that he is sorry that Sonny found them like this but that maybe it forces her to make a decision and stay with him after all. Carly tells him that she came over to say goodbye and that she plans to go home and talk to Sonny and believes Sonny will come to understand what she did and take her back. Alcazar tells her that if he was in Sonny's shoes and saw her kiss another man he would probably close his heart to her forever. Carly tells him he isn't Sonny and that she and Sonny have managed to stay together through many rough spots. Courtney comes in to find Carly still there with Alcazar. She tells her she had hoped she had gone home with Sonny. Alcazar leaves them to talk in private. Courtney asks her what she is doing with Alcazar after everything he did to her. Carly tells her that she only came over to say goodbye to him and Sonny showed up and got the wrong idea. She tells Courtney that she shouldn't judge her since she wasn't shot in the head and end up in a coma having dreams about another man she is supposed to hate. She tells Courtney she plans to go home and talk to Sonny and that she will make him understand what she did and he will eventually take her back. Courtney tells her that it may not be that easy this time and that Sonny has a harder time with forgiveness than her. Carly reminds Courtney that Sonny isn't perfect and that not too long ago he was found kissing Brenda goodbye and that she forgave him.
Sonny returns to the penthouse just as Jason is talking to Morales' assistant. Sonny tells the man that he is running his business the way he wants to and that Morales won't be dictating the terms of the shipment. The man leaves. Sonny goes over to get a drink and rants to Jason about how he will be making his business a priority from now on. Morgan starts to cry from upstairs. Sonny yells upstairs for someone to shut the baby up. Jason goes upstairs to see to the baby and Michael. Sonny feels guilty for yelling at a helpless baby. He admits to Jason that he saw Carly with Alcazar when he got there and that he doesn't want her to live with him anymore and that it is over and she made her choice to be with Alcazar. Jason asks him what he is going to do since he knows that Carly will be coming home to see her children soon and asks him if he is planning to throw his whole family out. Sonny doesn't know what he is going to do right now and tells him he has to get out of the penthouse because he is starting to feel suffocated. He asks Jason to handle the shipment when it comes in. Carly returns to the penthouse later. Jason is there loading his gun. Carly asks if Sonny is there. Jason tells her he left a little while ago. She tells him she needs his help to get her out of the hole she is in. Jason tells her he can't do that when he doesn't understand her himself. He asks her why she went to see Alcazar when he told her to stay put in the penthouse since Sonny was coming home soon. Carly tells him she went there to say goodbye to Alcazar. Jason tells her to stay home and that he will help her tomorrow to fix things with Sonny.
Courtney gets suspicious of Brian's phone conversation and overhears him telling Ric that they are planning to ambush Sonny and Jason and bring them both down this time. Sonny goes onto the pier to get some fresh air and hits his hands into the metal area of the dock and makes them bleed. He takes off his wedding band and tosses it into the river. Sam finds him there. She tells him she thought about calling him to ask him to join her for a few drinks but remembered he was happily married. Sonny tells her he isn't happily married anymore and confides in her that he found Carly with Alcazar, the man he shot the night he took her hostage with her truck. She tells him she is sorry and that she had no right to give him the advice to take Carly back and forgive her. He tells her that she didn't say anything he didn't really want to hear or believe himself that night. Sam notices his hands are bleeding and tells him he should let her give him some first aid but he refuses. She takes his hands and tries to comfort him. They lock eyes and embrace. Sonny tells her he doesn't want anything romantic with her just sex. She tells him he doesn't need to explain and grabs him and kisses him passionately. They end up sleeping together in some hotel room.
Carly holds baby Morgan and sings him a lullaby. She tells him that Sonny will come home and they will all be a family again soon. Courtney ends up showing up at the meeting place where the shipment arrives. She sees Jason and his men opening the shipment when Faith's men show up including Zander. The cops also show up to arrest Jason and Faith's men. Zander gives the o.k. for Faith's men to shoot at Jason and his men with the goal to kill Jason. The cops get caught up in the shootout. Courtney sees Brian going toward Jason. She leaves for a second and returns. Brian comes up behind Jason and points his gun at Jason. Jason turns around in surprise. Brian goes still and falls down and it is revealed that he has been shot in the back by none other than Courtney. Jason looks up at her in surprise. Jason drags her away before anyone can catch her. He takes her back to the penthouse, where a frantic Carly is searching for Sonny. Jason brushes Carly's questions off and tells her to give Courtney an alibi and stay with her. After Jason leaves, Courtney tells Carly what happened on the docks. Carly feels for Courtney, but tells her that she had no choice. She tries to reassure Courtney that she saved her husband's life, and that Brian was in the wrong. Courtney is unconvinced however, and she's devastated that she shot an innocent man who was only doing his job. Ric shows up to question Sonny and Jason, but they aren't there and Carly demands that he leave. He tells Courtney that Brian was shot, but is going to be okay. Once he's gone, she ignores Carly's protests and goes to see Brian at the hospital.
Sonny and Sam have sex at the hotel. Afterward, although Sam is chattering and unsure of her feelings on the situation, Sonny makes it clear that it was merely physical and a means for escape from his life. The two share a brandy and continue to take refuge in the hotel room until someone knocks at the door. Sonny opens it to find Jason, who sees Sam in the bed. The men go into the hallway to discuss the raid, and decide what actions to take. Jason doesn't tell Sonny that Courtney is the one who shot the cop. Sonny tells him what to do next, and although he says nothing, its clear that Jason is shocked and disgusted that Sonny has slept with Sam. Sonny returns to the room, and he and Sam have sex again. Later he gets up to leave and offers to make her a kept woman. Sam responds by angrily throwing a bottle at him and telling him she's not his whore.
Carly begs Jason to tell her where Sonny is staying. When Jason refuses, Carly worries aloud that Sonny might try to hurt himself, and that Jason should at least be with him. Knowing Sonny is with Sam, Jason assures Carly that Sonny is fine without him, and that Carly needs to let him cool down. Carly continues to persist, and Jason grows angry with her for creating the situation. When she protests that she can't control the damage that her brain received from the bullet, Jason softens and tells her to try and love Sonny enough to leave him alone for now. He leaves to find Courtney, and Carly continues to worry. She tries to distract herself, but finally calls the Port Charles Hotel to see if Sonny is there. When she's connected to his room but he doesn't answer, she decides to go there and meet him.
In his hotel room, Sonny explains himself to Sam, and she apologizes for her outburst. He lets her know that while he enjoys her company, all he can offer her is sex and money, that he no longer has the ability to love. They realize that they are at a mutual place, and decide that its better to use each other for comfort than to be alone. Sam decides to stay the night, and they begin to have sex again. Their intimate moment is interrupted when Carly walks in. She makes eye contact with Sonny, and leaves the room, crushed. Sam erupts at Sonny's coldness toward the incident, and realizes that she was just a pawn of his to hurt his wife. Sonny admits that he's not sorry that Carly walked in, but tells Sam that he wants to be with her because he's tired of hurting, and being with her makes him feel better. Sam forgives him, and again decides to stay.
Carly runs to Alcazar's safe house, devastated over Sonny's betrayal. She tells Alcazar that he was right, that Sonny never loved her but only considered her his property. She asks Alcazar if he still wants her, and he tells her that he loves her. Giving up on her life with Sonny, Carly begins to kiss Alcazar, and the two make love.
At the Port Charles Hotel, as Samantha tries to sneak out of his room, Sonny stops her. Carly wakes up in Lorenzo's bed and is impressed when Alcazar promises that he intends to make their relationship last. Later, when Lorenzo learns that Carly plans to return to Sonny's Penthouse, Lorenzo tries to talk Carly out of her plan, but tells her that he won't stand in her way. However, instead of going to the Penthouse, Carly goes to the Port Charles Hotel and tries to bully her way past the vigilant Max. While Carly is arguing with Max, Sonny and Sam leave Sonny's room together and Carly spots them. After Carly and Sam shoot daggers at each another, Sam leaves and Carly accuses Sonny of using Sam as a substitute for Brenda. Carly reminds Sonny that she gave Sonny the benefit of the doubt when Carly caught Sonny kissing Brenda. Sonny reminds Carly that Carly was kissing the man who attempted to kill their family. Carly accuses Sonny of being involved all along with Samantha and Sonny counters with the charge that Carly has had something going on with Lorenzo all along. Carly notices that Sonny took off his wedding ring. Sonny refuses to listen to Carly's protestations of love and Carly angrily retorts that she has been to bed with Lorenzo.
As Carly and Sonny argue, Carly tells Sonny that Lorenzo has been more honorable than Sonny has been and storms away. As Carly runs past Kelly's, she runs in to Lorenzo, but refuses his offer of help, announcing that she has something important to do. Sonny returns to his Penthouse and tells Courtney that his marriage is finally over, because Carly just admitted that she slept with Alcazar. Courtney again tells Sonny that Carly only went to Alcazar's apartment to tell the drug lord goodbye, but Sonny refuses to believe what his sister has to say. Courtney tries to reason with Sonny, but Sonny announces that he no longer wants Carly.
Jason meets Samantha on the docks and offers Sam a suitcase full of $1 million to walk away from Sonny. Sam haughtily informs Jason that she likes Sonny, but would not take money from Sonny to stay and will not take money from Jason to leave. Jason warns Samantha not to believe that anything could ever come of her relationship with Sonny. At the same time, as Sonny assures Courtney that his marriage to Carly is over, Carly arrives to pick up Michael and Morgan. But Sonny slams the door in Carly's face and tells her there is no way she will be allowed to see her children. As Carly pounds on the door in desperation, Courtney implores her brother to change his mind. But Sonny turns a deaf ear to Courtney's advice and to Carly's desperate protests outside the door.
Sonny slams the door on Carly when she tries to come into the penthouse to see the children. She beats on the door and insists on seeing the children and that he has no right to keep her away from her children. Courtney is there with Sonny and tries to persuade him to let Carly come in and see the children. Sonny refuses to let her in to see them. Carly yells at Sonny through the door and insists he let her in. Michael hears Carly's voice and comes running downstairs to see her. Courtney runs out into the hallway to talk to Carly while Sonny keeps Michael inside the penthouse to talk to him. Michael wants to know why Carly is not there with them. Courtney comes out and tells Carly to stop yelling at Sonny and informs her that Michael is downstairs and she is upsetting him. Carly starts to calm down when she hears that Michael heard her yelling. Carly tells Courtney that Sonny can't keep her away from her children and wants to go in and talk to Michael. Courtney tells her that she needs to leave and let Sonny calm down and that he is still angry and that Michael shouldn't have to hear them fighting like this. Carly asks Courtney if she is taking Sonny's side. Courtney tells her she isn't thinking of anyone but the children. Carly agrees to go for now but tells her that it is wrong what Sonny is doing to her. Courtney goes back inside and tells Michael that Carly had to leave for a while and will see him soon. Michael tells her that he doesn't want Sonny to send her away again like before. Sonny assures Michael that Carly is not going to be living with them right now and that it has nothing to do with her not wanting or loving him and sends him back to bed. Courtney tries to persuade Sonny not to keep Carly away from her children but Sonny refuses to listen to her and says that Carly is out of his life and the children are staying with him. Courtney tries to reason with Sonny but nothing works.
Carly returns to see Alcazar, who is upset when she told him she was leaving to go and see Sonny. He is happy to see her return to him for comfort. She cries on his shoulder and tells him that Sonny took her children away from her and that she may never see them again. Alcazar tries to reassure her that Sonny can't keep her away from her children for good and that he will help her get her children back. Jason offers Sam a briefcase full of money worth $1 million and tries to order her to take it and get out of Sonny's life for good. Sam refuses to accept the payoff and tells him that she wouldn't take Sonny's money and she won't take it from him either. Jason tells her that she has no future with Sonny and that Sonny loves his wife and won't leave her for her in the long run. Sam tells him she lives her life the way she wants to and won't be ordered by him. She asks him what Sonny would think if he knew what he was doing. Jason tells her that Sonny won't be happy but he doesn't care. Jason returns to the penthouse. Courtney tells him that Carly showed up and Sonny refused to let her see her children and asks for his help. Jason confronts Sonny about it after Sonny overhears them talking about him. Sonny refuses to let Carly near the children since she is with Alcazar and accuses Carly of always using Michael from the beginning to manipulate people's feelings. Jason points out that it isn't right to punish Carly by keeping her from her children and that they need their mother and she loves them. Sonny refuses to listen and tells him that he wants him to get rid of any trace of Carly in the house. Jason tells him to do it himself.
Courtney and Max bring all of Carly's belongings to the Port Charles Hotel. Carly sees that everything is there and that Sonny must have insisted all of her belongings be sent at once so she would have no reason to return to the penthouse. Courtney tries to get her to cool off and let Sonny have some space and that they can probably save their marriage in the end. Carly tells her that their marriage is over and that Sonny is a cold and unforgiving man and that she won't let him keep her from her children. Courtney sees Alcazar come into the hotel and approach them. She can't believe Carly would choose to be with Alcazar after he tried to ruin her life and tells her that. Carly tells her that Alcazar has been there for her. Courtney leaves and goes back to talk to Jason at the penthouse. Sonny and Sam show up at the hotel to go to their room to have sex. They run into Alcazar and Carly. Alcazar approaches Sonny to give him hell about keeping Carly away from her children. Sonny tells Sam to go up to their room and he will be there shortly. Carly waits until a man gets off the elevator as Sam enters it so she can get her alone in it. She stops the elevator from rising and asks Sam how long she has been sleeping with her husband. Sam looks at her in dread. Alcazar tells Sonny that he is a coward after Sonny tells him he can have Carly now like he has always wanted her. Sonny tells him he shouldn't be him a coward when he was the man who stalked and kidnapped a pregnant woman for months. Alcazar tells him that he will make sure that Carly gets her children back. Sonny tells him that his children are no concern of his.
Alcazar confronts Sonny about keeping Carly away from her children. He tells him he will help her fight Sonny and get her children back. Sonny tells him he can have Carly and even marry her but he will never get anywhere near his sons. While they are arguing, Carly asks Sam how long she has been sleeping with Sonny. Sam tells her it isn't any of her business since she was the one who was unfaithful to Sonny. Carly tells her that the only reason Sonny is with her is because she looks just like Brenda, the love of his life. She tells her that she may look like her but Sonny will dump her as soon as he gets sick of her and realizes she isn't Brenda. She tells her she will always be a substitute for Brenda not only for Sonny but for Jax, who also loved Brenda and put her on a pedestal. Sam wonders if she is right.
Carly gets off the elevator and sees Alcazar arguing with Sonny. She tells Sonny that he better go upstairs and find Sam, since she had a chat with her and warned her that he would dump her when he got sick of her and realized she wasn't Brenda. Sonny tells Carly that Sam is her own person who knows what she wants and doesn't lie about it like Carly does. Carly tells him he can't keep her children from her forever and that she will fight him. She tells him that he is broken inside and that he will never be able to be happy with any woman. Sonny accuses Carly of not being a real mother to her children and will keep them away from her forever. He inflames her even more when he tells Alcazar to take his "slut" away now. She starts to go after Sonny to hit him and almost does when Sonny warns her to keep her hands off him and walks into the elevator. Alcazar brings her back to her room. She starts to cry and worry that Sonny will be able to keep her children away from her. Alcazar tells her he loves her and will help her get her children back tonight if he has to. They come up with a plan to get the children. Carly calls Jason and asks him to meet her at the hotel and is crying and needs him.
Jason comes right over after leaving the children with Courtney. Sonny goes back to Sam's hotel room and sees her sitting in the chair. He tells her that she isn't a substitute for Brenda and that when he looks at her he sees her only. She tells him she sees him only when she looks at him. Jax goes upstairs to find Sam and he sees Sonny in her room with his shirt off and is shocked. A shirtless Sonny ends any hope between Jax and Sam, and Jax is obviously disgusted. Sonny quickly leaves before Jax can run out, and Sam tries to explain the situation. No longer having any interest in her excuses, Jax tells her he simply doesn't want to see her get hurt in Sonny's world, and he leaves. Jason arrives at Carly's room. She tells him she is covering old ground and needs him. He realizes though that she called him to lure him away from the penthouse. He asks her what she has done. Alcazar shows up at the penthouse and gets in without any sign of a guard. Courtney refuses to give him the children and asks him where the guards are. He tells her they are incapacitated at the moment and that Carly wants her children now and he isn't leaving without them.
Jason gets Carly to admit that Alcazar is the person she's sent to the penthouse to retrieve Michael and Morgan. He flips out, but Carly tells him that she had no choice, and that Sonny created this situation. Jason obviously feels for her, but tells her that this is not the way to go about things. Courtney refuses to allow Alcazar near Morgan and Michael. Alcazar tries to reason with her that Sonny is not allowing Carly to see her own children, but Courtney will not listen to her. Michael runs into the living room, screaming for Alcazar to leave, but he's subdued when Alcazar tells him that his mom sent a message for him. Alcazar, Courtney, and the children then go to the PC Hotel, where Carly is with Jason. Jason hides her while they come into the lobby, and tells her he will allow her to say hello to the kids, but is then taking them home. Jason continues to explain how he will help her, but she has to do it his way, until Sonny walks into the lobby and sees Michael. Carly spots him and runs to her son and tells him to stay with her. Sonny demands that Michael stand beside him, and not wanting to frighten her son anymore, Carly allows him to be taken home by Jason. After Michael and Morgan leave she tells Sonny that he will not take her children away from her, and to prepare for the fight of his life. In turn, Sonny warns Courtney to never again allow Alcazar near his children if she wants to ever see them again. Courtney races up to Carly's room after Sonny's departure, and blasts her for being as bad as Sonny. Carly apologizes to Courtney for her getting caught in the middle, but refuses to feel bad over her actions. She tells Courtney that Sonny is the one who is keeping her from Michael and Morgan, and she will not stop fighting for her kids.
Back at the penthouse, Sonny explodes to Jason. He calls Carly a slut, and says she'll never get near the children. Jason tells him to be quiet and not insult Carly loudly so that Michael will hear, and he tries to reason with Sonny. Sonny refuses to listen and declares to a shocked Jason that since Carly took sides with his enemy, she is now his enemy, and if she tries to see his sons again, he will treat her as his enemy and act accordingly. Carly shows up at the penthouse to talk to Sonny again about seeing their children. She tries to reason with him at the door, and tell him that they need to come to a compromise and not drag their kids through hell, and Sonny lets her in. Unbeknownst to either of them, Michael is sitting at the staircase and eavesdropping on their conversation. When Carly suggests that she take the boys to children's night at the zoo, Sonny balks and says that Alcazar could have his plane ready to take them out of the country. Carly explains that Sonny left her no choice earlier, than to have Alcazar try to get Michael and Morgan, but Sonny replies that the boys are going no where and the only person leaving is her. He tells her to get out, and she lets him know that the situation is not over. She leaves, and Sonny angrily throws Morgan's stroller and goes into the other room. Once he's gone, Michael emerges from the stairs and takes the stroller. Jason shows up at the penthouse to ask Sonny if he can take the boys to the zoo, and they discover them missing.
Michael shows up at the PC Hotel and tells Carly that he took Morgan in the stroller and left the penthouse in order to see her. She tries to comfort him and assure him that no matter what happens between her and Sonny, she will always love him and he will never be to blame. As she is hugging him, Sonny and Jason appear in the lobby. Michael tells them that he left with Morgan, and Carly had nothing to do with it, but Sonny tells her that she's to blame for Michael being upset enough to do such a thing, and that he's getting a restraining order against her so that she can't come near the kids. Carly immediately attempts to get Alexis to help her stop Sonny, but Alexis refuses. Despite Jason's pleas to reconsider, Sonny enlists Justus to put the paperwork together barring Carly from her sons and granting Sonny full custody.
In Sonny's suite at the Port Charles Hotel, Samantha confides to Sonny that Jason offered her One Million Dollars to leave town. Sonny explains that Carly was with Jason before Carly was with Sonny and that even though Carly only used Jason, Jason never seemed to realize how destructive Carly really could become. Sonny promises to order Jason to stay away from Sam. Sam reminds Sonny that their relationship has no strings, but Sonny wonders WHY Samantha passed up the easy money offered by Jason if she would only leave town. Samantha insists that she turned the money down because she cannot be bought. However, as she speaks, Sam spots the newspaper headlines about the auction of the pirate treasure and rushes off to get dressed. Sonny is surprised when he discovers that Samantha is still going after the treasure! After Sonny leaves to meet with Jason, Samantha calls the Hotel to check on the security measures being used to protect the treasure during the auction.
In Lorenzo's suite at the Port Charles Hotel, Carly and Lorenzo are shocked when Carly is served with a Restraining Order directing that Carly must stay away from both of her children! Carly vows that she will not let Sonny use her children as weapons to hurt her. Lorenzo reminds Carly that the best way to get Michael and Morgan back in their mother's care is to make Sonny look bad. Lorenzo confides to Carly that he has brought in a weapon that will blast Sonny's case out of the water. Later, Lorenzo introduces Carly to Attorney Jen MacNeill, who will be representing Carly in the custody battle with Sonny. However, even as Carly explains the Restraining Order to Jen, Sonny meets with Justus. Justus warns Sonny that the only way that Sonny can hope to gain full custody of Michael and Morgan is to prove that Carly is unfit. Sonny tells Justus to go ahead and drag up all of Carly's past mistakes. Justus urges Sonny to put the children's best interests ahead of Sonny's desire to get even with Carly but Sonny insists that what is best for Michael and Morgan is to have Carly out of their lives for good.
Later, when Sonny meets Jason with Michael and Morgan in the park, Michael coldly turns down Sonny's offer of a trip to the hockey rink. After Michael and Jason leave to return to the Penthouse, Sonny spots Carly hovering in the bushes near Morgan and Sonny warns Carly not to even think of getting near Morgan. Later, at the Penthouse, Michael confides to Jason that Michael misses his mother. At the same time, Carly implores Sonny to sit down with her to work out a compromise for the future of the children. But Carly then suddenly picks up Morgan instead. When Carly refuses to turn Morgan loose, Sonny flags down a passing Lucky and demands that Lucky do his duty and take Morgan away from Carly. Lorenzo suddenly shows up and Lorenzo finally persuades Carly to return Morgan to Sonny. As soon as Sonny has Morgan, Sonny insists that Carly be arrested and Lucky complies by arresting Carly.
Carly is brought into PCPD in handcuffs with Lucky as her police escort. Ric is there when she is brought in and asks Lucky what the charge is. Lucky tells him that she was arrested for violating a court order. He tells Lucky to bring her into the interrogation room for now. Sonny shows up and Ric assumes that he is there to bail her out of jail but Sonny informs him that he is the one who had her arrested for violating the court order. Alcazar shows up with Carly's new attorney. Her new attorney tells Ric that the court order was not properly served to Carly and she is going to have it rescinded by a judge. Sonny tells Ric that Carly violated the court order and wants her charged. Sonny leaves. He goes back to the hotel where Sam is. He sees her all dressed up in an evening gown. He persuades her to be late so they can have sex.
Jason arrives at his room later at the hotel. He tells Sonny about the Brian situation and how he knows that Courtney shot him but didn't tell his fellow cops about it and how he is worried that Brian will use that over Courtney's head and that even though she is loyal to them she may end up doing something to ease her conscience. Sonny doesn't like that scenario and tells Jason to take care of Brian, without coming right out and ordering a hit on him. Jason understands Sonny's meaning. Back at PCPD, Carly, Alcazar and her attorney meet to discuss how to get the court order against her dropped. Alcazar somehow finds out that the judge that issued the court order is one of the judges in Sonny's pocket. Carly's attorney feels that getting that court order rescinded will be harder than she thought it would be. Ric offers to help Carly to make amends for kidnapping her. He pulls a few strings and finds a judge at the hotel to rescind the court order. Alcazar listens to what Ric says and realizes that he never really made amends for kidnapping her from Ric and that she should hate him for that. Carly tells Alcazar that she thinks people can change for the better and that she sees no reason not to think he can't change either. Carly shows up at Sonny's hotel room with a document. She tells Sonny that she managed to have the court order against her seeing her children rescinded and that she now has a court order for temporary custody of their children.
A fire spreads throughout the basement of the PC. Carly shows Sonny the papers she had a judge sign, giving her temporary custody of Michael and Morgan, and that the restraining order he had placed against her has been rescinded. Sonny tells her that she has temporary custody and that he will fight her in court and prove she is an unfit mother. Carly asks him how it has come to this and why he is trying to keep her from seeing her children. Sonny tells her that as long as she is with Alcazar, he wants his children away from her, since Alcazar is a known drug lord. Carly points out to Sonny that he kills people and isn't any better. Sonny tells her he will not let her win this custody battle and he will do everything that is necessary to stop her. He tells her that he will take the children and himself and leave the country for good and she will never see her children again. Carly tells him he wouldn't do that since it will hurt the children not to see her ever again. Sonny tells her he would do it if it would keep them away from Alcazar.
Alcazar shows up and tells Carly he knew she would probably be up there with Sonny. Sonny tells Alcazar to take Carly away and calls her a derogatory name. Carly spits out that he is a bastard and leaves in tears. Alcazar tries to reassure her that Sonny won't be able to take the children out of the country since he has men following him everywhere in town and that they won't let him go anywhere without notifying him. Carly hugs and kisses Alcazar and tells him she trusts him. Sonny comes out of the room and sees them embracing.
Later, Carly gets in same elevator as Alexis. Carly and Alexis aren't too pleased to be in the same elevator together. The elevator makes a jolting movement which startles them. The elevator stops and the lights flicker inside. Alexis asks what is going on. Alcazar corners Sonny on the stairs. He tells Sonny he will not allow him to hurt Carly anymore and that he won't let him get custody of her children, even if it means he makes her a widow. Sonny dares him to try. Alcazar attacks Sonny on the stairs and tries to push him off of them and kill him. Sonny fights back and the two wrestle and fight. A backdraft hits the door to the stairwell open and knocks Sonny and Alcazar unconscious. When they wake up, they've been blown into the hall, and Sonny gets up to find his way out, but Alcazar is trapped under a beam. Sonny goes out into the hall and discovers they are alone on the floor. He grabs an ax from the wall and breaks the board that's trapping Alcazar. Apparently a second explosion occurs that changes the tables, with Alcazar free and Sonny unconscious. Despite a moment's hesitation, Alcazar grabs Sonny and drags him with him to safety in the hallway, where they later split up to search for a way out. Carly and Alexis remain trapped in the elevator. Alexis tells Carly to stay calm and wait to be rescued, but having no interest in dying, Carly does the opposite and pries the elevator doors open with her shoe. Unfortunately, the two women are between floors and their exit is blocked by a wall. Carly then pulls off the top of the elevator and looks into the shaft to discover that the cables have frayed and are beginning to break. She and Alexis attempt to connect wires in the panel in order to get the elevator to move to a floor, but suddenly they scream as the elevator begins to fall. They abruptly stop as the emergency brake kicks in, but know that their time is short. They try to distract each other by bonding as mothers, but after Carly admits that despite her problems with Sonny he is a great father, Alexis begins to cry. Carly tries to comfort her by pointing out that Ned will be there for Kristina, but Alexis tearfully admits that Sonny is Kristina's real father.
Alexis confesses to Carly that Sonny is Kristina's real father, and a disbelieving Carly angrily calls Alexis a lying bitch. Alexis presses that it's the truth and explains she lied because she didn't want Kristina around the danger that killed her namesake. Carly counters that Alexis just couldn't bear to share her daughter with anyone, and Alexis asks her if she blames her when Sonny is trying to keep Carly away from her own two sons. As Alexis continues to ramble on about her impending demise, Carly's irritation grows and she decides to do something to get them out of the elevator. Alexis panics at her movement, but Carly tells her to move her butt and help her pry the door open. They manage to open the door and jump down to the hotel hall in the small space that's open.
Once out of the elevator, Alexis immediately regrets her admission regarding Kristina's paternity, but Carly assures her they are far from being safe from death. They continue to make it down the hall when Carly thinks she sees someone and turns back to look. An explosion rips through the room, and knocks Carly unconscious and blocks Alexis from her. Alexis makes it out of the hotel and tells the police where Carly is trapped and hurt. Meanwhile, Sonny appears back in the auction room and demands that Lucky find out if Carly has been evacuated. When no one outside can account for her, Sonny forces Lucky to take him to the security room where he can see areas on camera. Fearing the worst, Sonny heads to an area where the camera has been destroyed, in hopes of finding his wife.
On the twelfth floor, flames continue to burn perilously close to Carly. Lucky and Sonny make their way to the surveillance room to see if any of the cameras on the Twelfth Floor are still functioning. Meanwhile, in Jax's Penthouse, Jax and Samantha head for the bed. After they hit the sheets, Jax wonders if it might have been possible for them to get out of the fire if they had spent less time arguing. Sonny arrives and demands that Jax open the door. Sam scrambles to cover up and hide out of sight. Sonny informs Jax that he is headed to the Twelfth Floor to look for Carly. Jax offers to accompany Sonny, but Sonny rushes away, after informing Jax that the last explosion cleared a stairwell down to the street and that Jax will be able to escape if Jax leaves immediately.
As Courtney and Brian argue, Sonny suddenly shows up, with a drawn gun focused on Brian. Courtney is surprised when Brian accuses Sonny of sending Jason to kill him. At the same time, Jason finds himself on the twelfth floor and finds a woman's shoes and address book. Then Jason spots Carly in the midst of the flames. Meanwhile, in the stairwell, Courtney implores Sonny NOT to shoot Brian, but Sonny warns Courtney that Brian is still using Courtney to find a way to put Courtney's husband and brother behind bars. Sonny decides that he doesn't want to put Courtney in a position where she would have to lie to protect her brother and orders Brian to leave. After Brian leaves, Courtney blasts Sonny for ordering Jason to kill Brian and angrily declares that she is through with Sonny's way of life. Jason succeeds in dragging Carly to safety. As Jason and Carly take refuge in one of the untouched rooms, Carly tries to tell Jason about being trapped in the elevator with Alexis. Jason shocks Carly by informing her that he believes that Alexis is dead because Jason found Alexis's identification in the rubble and Jason believes that Alexis is under the debris. As Carly wonders what will become of Kristina now that her mother is dead, Jason and Carly try to leave the room. However, they discover that their path is now blocked by flames and slam the door on the flames.
Sonny blasts Courtney because she changed her mind mid-stream about being able to live with Jason's "business." Sonny warns Carly that, by allowing Brian to get close to her, Courtney has given the police officer all the ammunition he needs to take them all down! While Courtney and Sonny argue, Skippy the puppy makes his way, alone, out of the fire and is happily reunited with Louise. Later, as Brian tries to find his way out of the fire, he suddenly encounters a man with a gun, who shoots Brian point blank. The man walks away and leaves Brian for dead in the flames. Carly tearfully confides to Jason that she believes they are doomed and confesses that Jason has always been her best friend. When Carly asks if there had ever been a possibility of a deeper relationship developing between them, Jason admits that he believes it was possible. Carly asks Jason to kiss her goodbye and Jason complies with her request. Sonny and Courtney continue their argument just as more debris from the ceiling falls between them, striking Sonny.
Faith arrives upstairs in the Versailles room, having lost Sonny in the smoke. Faith gets Lorenzo alone long enough to inform Lorenzo that Carly is lost somewhere in the Hotel and that Sonny has gone searching for Carly. Faith taunts Lorenzo for leaving Carly alone in the fire. Before Lorenzo can leave the Versailles Room, he collapses. Georgie rushes to assist Lorenzo and discovers that he has a bad cut and has lost a lot of blood.
An unknown person finds Brian in one of the rooms in the hotel and shoots him a few times. Brian falls down and lays there unconscious. The shooter is wearing a jacket with a hood. He/she drops the jacket to the floor to escape. Jason picks up the jacket with the hood that the shooter left at the scene and used it to cover his face to keep the smoke out of his lungs.
Jason and Carly talk. The ceiling in the room they are hanging around in gets weaker from the fire and Jason tells her they need to make an escape route out of the hotel somehow. Carly panics and suggests opening up a window. Jason tells her not to since the fire is right outside the corridor and the oxygen in the air outside will make the fire bigger. Carly tells him she doesn't want to die and gets angry with Jason for suggesting they stay calm. They get out of the room. Jason and Carly reach the stairwell safely. A mystery man in a fireman's outfit and an oxygen tank and mask is on the stairs above them, dragging a bag of jewels with him. He hears Jason and Carly come in the stairwell and hides the bag of jewels from the treasure in a corner near the stairs. He/she doesn't talk. Jason asks the fireman to help escort Carly upstairs to join the others. Carly is reluctant to let him leave and go off on his own. He asks her to stop arguing with him for once and just do what he asks. He gives her his leather jacket to wear to protect her from the heat. The "fireman" escorts her upstairs. Carly starts to feel out of breath going up the stairs after drawing all that smoke into her lungs. The "fireman" stops walking up the stairs in front of her and turns around. He gives her an oxygen mask to help her with her breathing so she can make it the rest of the way upstairs. Carly makes it upstairs and joins the others near the roof. She finds Alcazar laying on the floor, waking up on his own. She goes to him. He is happy to see she is o.k. He is dismayed though when she starts to worry about Sonny since she doesn't see him or Jason upstairs. Alcazar tells her that Sonny will make it up o.k. and tells her about the fight they had on the stairwell earlier and how they each saved each other's lives so now they are even and can go back to hating each other again.
Courtney and Sonny argue in the hallway. Courtney tells Sonny that she can't live like him and that she can't be the sister that he wants her to be. Sonny grabs Courtney when the ceiling starts to cave in from the fire. He knocks her away from the ceiling and they are both o.k. Courtney thanks him for pulling her away from being killed. Sonny tells her she can't escape the life she has as his sister or as Jason's wife. He tries to get up but his knee gives in and he tells her that he can't walk on it on his own. Courtney uses pieces of wood from the ceiling that fell that aren't on fire and uses it to make a splint for his bad leg. She helps him climb up the stairs. Sonny tells Courtney about how he got involved with the mob and how he likes his lifestyle even if she doesn't and tells her that he loves her. She smiles at him and tells him she loves him too. They run into Jason later. Jason, Carly and Sonny arrive upstairs to join everyone. Ric asks Brian if he knows who shot him. Brian sees that Jason is wearing the same jacket that his shooter was wearing and points to him and tells Ric that Jason shot him.
Capelli accuses Jason of shooting Brian, who is put on the helicopter first because of his gunshot wounds. Jason refuses to speak to him or Ric. Justus tells Ric that there is no probable cause to arrest Jason for Brian's shooting since no one was there to witness it and that Brian has a known bias against Jason. Ric is reluctant to arrest Jason at first. Sonny loses his temper at Ric. Ric has Jason arrested out of spite. Capelli tells Jason that he will not allow him to be on the helicopter and suggests he has to wait until the last helicopter comes. He then suggests that he take Jason down the stairs in handcuffs and bring him out that way. Ric is against this idea at first but Sonny's temper gets worse and he accuses Ric of murder if he allows Capelli to take Jason down the stairs and risk his life like that. He accuses Ric of getting someone to do his dirty work for him so his hands don't get dirty. Ric allows Capelli to take Jason down the stairs.
Carly goes over to speak to Sonny to find out why Jason is being led to the stairs instead of being allowed to get on the helicopter. Alcazar tries to follow her over to where Sonny is but Justus stops him and tells him to let Carly speak to her husband alone without interfering. Alcazar doesn't move but watches Carly and Sonny talk in private and isn't pleased. Sonny blames himself for losing his temper and that if he hadn't Ric may have let Jason go in the helicopter instead. He tells Carly that he has been doing a lot of things lately that he regrets. Suddenly the floor beneath them caves in from the fire. Sonny and Carly fall to the floor below them. Alcazar tries to go after them to help Carly. Justus pulls Alcazar back and tells him that it would be suicide to jump down there. Justus tells everyone that there is no way Sonny and Carly could have survived that kind of a fall. Alcazar refuses to get on the helicopter with Edward and them. He is determined to find Carly before he leaves the hotel.
Courtney overhears Ric talking to Elizabeth about Sonny and Carly. She notes a tension in Ric and asks him what is going on. He informs Mike and Courtney that Sonny and Carly fell through the floor that collapsed under them and that it looks like they are dead. Courtney and Mike are devastated. Courtney gets even more upset when she asks about Jason and is informed by Ric that Capelli arrested Jason for shooting Brian and is taking him through the stairwells to the front of the hotel instead of by helicopter. Courtney loses her temper and accuses Ric of purposely trying to get Jason killed. She starts punching Ric several times and accuses Elizabeth of being clueless about her husband. She tells Ric she hates him and that he should have died in the fire not Sonny and Carly. Capelli follows Jason down the stairs. Jason is still in handcuffs. Capelli orders Jason to stop on the stair and points a gun at him and plans to kill Jason and make it look as if Jason tried to overpower him instead. Jason surprises Capelli by striking him with a kick instead and knocks Capelli's gun away. Capelli grabs Jason and throws him against the wall and knocks him out briefly and retrieves the gun. He handcuffs Jason to the stairwell and leaves him there. Jason asks him how he is going to explain the handcuffs being attached to the stairwell railing and Capelli tells him he will convince Ric that he had to handcuff him because he got violent with him and that he had to and that he planned on getting someone to help find him but it was too late.
Sonny wakes up after being buried under some rubble and parts of the floor that he fell under. He calls out to Carly and looks for her. He finds her unconscious and cradles her in his arms. He tells her that he hates her as much as he loves her and tells her she can't die on him now and that he wants more than anything for her to take care of their boys and love them. Alcazar finds them and watches Sonny cradle her. Sonny cries over his unconscious wife, and tells her that he loves her. Carly finally begins to awake as Lorenzo comes upon the scene and interrupts them. He pulls Carly out of the pit where they are trapped, and Sonny tells them to go on without him. Carly screams that she will not leave him alone, and they work to get Sonny out as well. They make it out of the collapsed area and into a hallway, where Sonny walks into the elevator and hot-wires it to get them downstairs ahead of the fire.
Courtney breaks away from her dad and finds Capelli who tells her Jason isn't coming out of the hotel. Courtney can't believe her ears as Capelli makes up a story about Jason attacking him, and she begins to flip out. Her tirade brings Ric over, and she screams at him about Jason's situation. When a fireman tells her they've abandoned the search in Jason's area, she tries to run into the building herself, but is stopped by another officer. Courtney continues to struggle against the police, when Sonny, Carly, and Alcazar suddenly emerge from the building. She runs and throws herself into Carly's arms and tells them that Capelli handcuffed Jason to a pipe and left him in the building to die. Sonny yells at Ric that it will be on his head, but they all agree to believe that Jason can make it out alive. Sonny and Carly share a close moment while Alcazar is distracted by the paramedics. Carly asks him what he was saying to her when she awoke, but before he can answer, Sam rushes up to him, jumps in front of Carly, and throws her arms around him. With the moment ruined by Sam's interruption, Carly leaves them together and goes to comfort Courtney.
Emily shows up, and together with Courtney, they worry as they wait for word on Nikolas and Jason. Ric kills their hope when he tells them that the building has become too unstable, and the rescue search has completely been called off. Emily begs Sonny to do something and make them continue looking when suddenly, Jason emerges from the building. Courtney runs to him, and he hugs her. Over his shoulder he looks at Emily, and she reads his eyes and knows that Nikolas isn't coming out with him. Courtney runs to Jason as he emerges from the building and hugs him. They exchange I love you's to each other, and then he walks over to Emily. He tells his sister that Nikolas survived the roof collapse, found him and saved his life, but unfortunately broke a gas pipe in the process. He recounts his memory of running into a hotel corridor with Nikolas when an explosion occurred, pinning them both under beams. Jason awoke and was able to get out, but he couldn't get to Nikolas.
Sonny rents Sam a hotel room at another hotel, and she thanks him and tells him she's glad he made it out alive. He asks her how she got out, and she admits Jax helped her but gives him no details of her time with Jax in the penthouse, or of their lovemaking. Sonny goes home. At the hospital, Carly thanks Alcazar for saving her life. He tells her that he'd do anything for her, but admits that Sonny helped save her as well. Carly hopes that Sonny will now compromise with her over the children, and then attempts to go to the station to help Jason. Alcazar stops her and tells her she needs to go home and rest, and when she tells him she no longer has a home, he asks her to come home with him. She accepts and goes to his place to clean up. Carly thanks him again for saving her life on more than one occasion, and let's him know that she needs time to figure things out with the boys before she can move in with him. He offers her his other house, and they kiss before being interrupted by a call from Sonny. Sonny tells Carly that Michael is upset and wants to see her, and that she needs to come over. She agrees, and he tells her to come over alone. Carly rushes into the penthouse and hugs Michael tightly. Sonny watches as she tells Michael that she loves him and thought about nothing but him and Morgan while she was in the fire. She tells him that it's late, and asks to tuck him in, but he wants her to stay the night and have their family back the way it used to be. Sonny and Carly join together to put their son to bed, but begin to fight immediately afterward when Carly says she'll pick the boys up the next day. Sonny tells her she can't take them, and she reminds him she has custody. He shoves her out of the apartment, and tells her she will not get his sons.
Alcazar shows up at Carly's new house and is pleased with her new hairdo which is a dark color instead of her usual blonde hair. She tells him that she needed a change and that it is fitting to have a new hairstyle to go with her new life. She shows him all the toys she bought Morgan and Michael when they come to live with her. Alcazar worries about her custody fight with Sonny. Meanwhile, Sam shows up at Sonny's penthouse to see him. He asks her if there is anything he can do for her and is a little uncomfortable seeing her in his home. She tells him she is getting all set up to live on her boat and came by to see how he was doing. She touches his cheek just as Michael comes down the stairs. He calls out to her and asks her who she is and why she is touching his father like that. Sonny explains to him that she is just a friend and came over to visit him. Michael isn't too thrilled with seeing this stranger in his home but relaxes and smiles at her once he sees she isn't a threat to them and goes back upstairs to do his homework. Sam tells Sonny that Michael didn't seem too pleased with her. Sonny tells her that Michael has been through a lot lately and that he will come around one day.
Carly shows up outside Sonny's penthouse with Alcazar and Lucky. She tells Alcazar that he should go and let her handle things alone with Sonny and assures him that Lucky will make sure Sonny abides by the law and gives her the children. She comes in with Lucky and is dismayed to see Sam there. She asks him what she is doing there when this is a family matter. Sonny points to Lucky and asks her why she brought a cop with her. She reminds him that Lucky is also her family and he understands what is going on with the custody situation. Sonny insists that Sam can stay. Carly asks to see Michael and Morgan and to take them home with her. Sonny tells her that she shouldn't take the children right now like this or she is going to confuse and frighten them more with Lucky being there in his uniform. Carly reminds him she was granted temporary custody and she wants to see the children now so she can explain what is going on and tell them she loves them. She tells Sonny that she doesn't want to fight with him about this and Sonny agrees with her. He tells her that he will talk to the children and bring them to her home later. Lucky tells Carly that she should bring the children with her right now but Carly trusts Sonny to honor his word and bring them to her home later.
Carly goes to her new home with Lucky and Alcazar. She starts to worry what Sonny is going to do and Lucky tells her she should have maybe listened to him and taken the children right then. She asks Lucky to stay until Sonny brings the children to her and he tells her he can stay but has to call the station and check in. Alcazar tries to comfort her and asks her if she thinks Sonny will double-cross her. She tells him she doesn't think Sonny would do that but she looks doubtful. A knock at the door interrupts their conversation. Carly answers the door. Sam is on the other side of the door. She had talked to Sonny after Carly had left the penthouse and questioned why Sonny would so willingly let her barge in to his home and demand his children and that he would so easily agree to let her have the children. Sonny asked her to do something for him before she left. Sam tells Carly that Sonny asked her to give her a message that he wouldn't be bringing the children over to live with her and is keeping them with him at his home. Carly looks at Lucky and tells him to arrest Sam for aiding and abetting Sonny and fears he is going to be leaving the country with them if they don't stop him. Sonny calls to Leticia after the luggage is gathered near the door. He orders her to bring Michael and Morgan downstairs and that they have to leave now. Leticia comes down the stairs holding Morgan and tells him Michael isn't in his room and asks if he is downstairs with him. Sonny is livid and asks Leticia if it has become too difficult for her to care for both Morgan and Michael and yells at her for not keeping a better eye on him.
Michael comes running over to Jason at Kelly's and asks him if he is going to the airport with them. Jason calls Sonny to let him know that Michael is with him. Sonny is relieved to know that Michael is safe with Jason. Sonny asks Jason to bring Michael to meet him and Morgan at the airport. Sam visits Carly telling her that Sonny is leaving the country with Michael and Morgan. Lucky advises Sam to leave or she can be charged with aiding and abetting. Sam returns to the penthouse warning Sonny to leave for the airport right away before the cops arrive. Jason and Courtney argue outside Kelly's about Sonny leaving with the boys. Jason warns Courtney to stay out of it, as he is trying to protect Michael and Morgan, but Courtney insists on telling Carly to go to the airport. Jason tells Courtney that it is better to walk away from this custody fight. However, it is easier for her to walk away than for him. Sam realizes that Sonny is goading Carly into making mistakes, which will show she is an unfit mother. Lucky tries to help Carly see that Sam might have her own agenda for showing up at the house, but they are interrupted by Courtney's phone call. At the airport, Michael and Sonny argue about leaving, as Lucky, Carly and Lorenzo arrive. Jason strongly advises Carly to not have Sonny arrested in front of Michael. Carly calms down, however, Sonny is able to snap her judgment and she almost falls into his trap. Lorenzo escorts Carly out of the airport. Sonny informs Jason Carly almost fell for his trap and if Lorenzo keeps helping Carly from "being her own worst enemy", the fight for his kids will be harder than he thinks. At the house, Lorenzo explains he is on Carly's side and if she keeps thinking with her emotions, Sonny will win.
Carly is informed her temporary custody order has been rescinded and Sonny gets to keep the Michael and Morgan with him. The lawyer then resigns, explaining the threat Sonny made to her. She tells Carly that Sonny thinks he is above the law and she might not win this custody case. Carly calls Alexis to the house to blackmail her into being her divorce lawyer, or she'll tell Sonny that Christina is his daughter. Lorenzo calls Jason to the pier stating they are the only ones thinking rationally and they have to work together to stop this custody fight. Carly blackmails Alexis into representing her in the custody fight for Michael and Morgan. Alexis balks at the idea, but Carly promises to tell Sonny the truth about Kristina's parentage unless Alexis gets her the boys. Alexis tells Carly she will only do it if Carly plays by her rules, and Carly agrees. Alexis then promptly tells her to get rid of Alcazar. Carly sadly relays the news to Alcazar upon his return, and although he resists at first, he then understands and promises to help her in any way he can. Alcazar returns a while later with an additional offer to help Carly win back her kids: he's giving up his illegal business for her.
Sonny tells Sam that he is ending their relationship before he hurts her. Sam protests and tells him that she isn't looking for a commitment, and that she likes him but is not interested in love. Sonny believes her, and agrees to contact her later on the boat. They kiss in the hall out of sight of the boys, but Justus walks upon them and is not thrilled at what he sees. He warns Sonny that the custody battle will get ugly, and that Sonny will be fighting for his life. He demands that Sonny end both his relationship with Sam and any illegal business activities if he has any hope of getting his sons. Jason goes to the penthouse to discuss a business problem regarding their dock lease with Sonny, and tells him he thinks Faith is behind it. Sonny isn't so sure. He considers that Alcazar might be behind the problems, and orders Jason to go to the dock leasing company and find out who is in charge.
Alexis pays Sonny a visit and informs him that she's Carly's new attorney. She tries to get him to reason on the kids, and keep things out of court. She tells him Carly is willing to work out a joint agreement, but Sonny isn't interested. He shouts that the boys will not be separated from him, and that the mother is no object in the life of his children. Alexis draws in her breath at his reaction, and knows that she must win the court case for Carly if she wants to keep her own daughter. She tells Sonny that he'd better find a way to compromise, because she will win the case and he stands to lose his children for good.
Carly tells Alcazar that he can't just leave the business when he wants to. He responds that she's confusing him with Sonny, who couldn't or likely wouldn't, leave the business, but he will do it because he loves her. Faith arrives at Carly's house, and Alcazar offers her all of his local holdings. Faith agrees, but warns him once he sells to her it's a done deal- even if Carly doesn't work out. Carly continues to worry about Alcazar's safety if he leaves the business, and while he's touched by her concern, he voices that he knows she doesn't yet love him. Carly tells him she doesn't know how to feel about everything, but he assures her he's willing to wait for her to fall in love.
Sonny warns Alexis that if she goes after his children for Carly, he will treat her like an enemy and take her down. She asks him why he won't reason with Carly, and why he'd hurt his children by allowing them to grow up without a mother. He tells her that he won't let his sons be raised by a woman whose mind has been turned by a horrible man, the way his mother's was. Justus walks in on the two of them, and Alexis warns him to get Sonny to agree to joint custody of Michael and Morgan. Sonny asks her why she's helping Carly, and an angry Alexis tells him she's sick and tired of watching him bribe and bully everyone to get his way. After she leaves, Justus rails at Sonny to start thinking clearly and realize how unreasonable he's being. Sonny tells him that he loves his children more than his own life, and he loves his wife like that too, but he lost her in an instant with a bullet, and he can't lose his kids as well. Justus asks him if he knows what he really wants- custody of his sons, or to win his wife back?
Sonny goes to the boat to find Sam and bury his sorrows in quick sex with her. She willingly agrees, and the two hit the sack. Sonny dresses quickly afterward, much to Sam's dismay, and he reminds her that he is not going to get emotionally involved with her because he has nothing left to give to her. He also reminds her that she was okay with their arrangement, and says that if she's changed her mind, he'll walk out the door. Sam tells him she hasn't, and that she wants him to stay. She lets him know that because he doesn't ask anything of her, she wants to give it. Sonny responds that he's just trying to get through the problems of his life, and it's clear that while he is using her for immediate comfort, she is feeling more.
Alexis shows up at Carly's house, and is irritated to find Alcazar with her. After goading Alexis, he leaves, and she unleashes her anger on Carly. Carly will have none of it, and defends Alcazar as a legitimate business man. Alexis warns her that Sonny's lawyers will go after anything and everything they can to win the case for Sonny, and she begins to inquire about his childhood trauma and his mental state. A shocked Carly refuses to use his abusive childhood home against him, and doesn't want his mental breakdowns to be made public either. Alexis tells her to wise up and realize that Sonny will stop at nothing to keep Carly's children from her.
Carly tells Alcazar that she's concerned that Faith will act violently against Sonny, adding that she's worried for him too. Faith warns Sonny that since she now controls Alcazar's holdings, Sonny had better show her a little respect. Alcazar knows that imminent violence will work against Sonny during the custody hearing. Jason carefully points out to Sonny that he is losing control of his actions. Alexis lets Carly know the importance of Jason taking her side in court. With that in mind, Carly tells him that she will divulge Sonny's shaky mental state in court unless Jason testifies on her behalf.
Sonny and Justus discuss the custody battle at the penthouse. Justus warns Sonny about the judge and how he may decide to put Michael and Morgan in foster care if he doesn't like Sonny or Carly's behavior towards each other. Sonny threatens to take his boys out of the country before letting a judge take them away. Sonny complains to Justus that Alcazar is getting involved in the custody battle and is trashing him and that he now has to make Carly look unfit to the judge and gives Justus permission to use her past against her in court. Justus asks him if he really wants to do that to the mother of his children. Sonny tells him that he doesn't want to have to hurt Carly but she is not giving him much of a choice. Meanwhile, Jason gets upset with Carly for trying to blackmail him into testifying on her behalf by threatening to expose Sonny's mental instability in court. Jason tells her that by exposing that secret in court, she may as well sign his death warrant since his enemies will use Sonny's vulnerability against him. Carly tells him she doesn't want to expose Sonny's mental instability but that Sonny is pushing her into a corner by refusing to share custody of the kids with her. Jason tells her she always has a choice and suggests that she talk to Sonny in person and tell him what she just told him. Carly doesn't believe that will help anything. She asks Jason not to let her or the children down and tell the judge the children belong with her. Jason doesn't tell her yes and leaves.
Jason arrives at the penthouse and overhears Sonny tell Justus to provoke Carly in court and get her to lose it on the stand. Justus tells Jason that they need to talk and go over his testimony. Sonny orders Justus not to worry about Jason's testimony since he will be telling the judge the children belong with him. Jason asks Sonny what he is doing and suggests that he stand back a little and calm down. Sonny gets upset with Jason for telling him what to do about the custody of the children. Sonny assumes Jason will be on his side in court and Jason doesn't say no but is torn. Carly goes to see Courtney in her new office and asks Courtney to testify on her behalf in court and tell the judge the children belong with her. Courtney tells her she can't do that and that she plans to tell the judge that Sonny and Carly should share custody. Carly tells her that Sonny won't let her share custody and that he never allowed her to explain what happened with Alcazar. Courtney tells her that she doesn't approve of her seeing Alcazar, who she feels ruined Carly's life. Carly defends Alcazar to Courtney. Courtney isn't convinced he is some knight in shining armor. Courtney doesn't give her an answer one way or another. Courtney suggests to Carly that she go back to Sonny and try and work things out. Carly thinks that it is too late for that. Jason suggests the same thing to Sonny, who thinks Carly would not go back to him now that she is sleeping with Alcazar. Jason tells him she only did that when she found out he slept with Sam. Sonny doesn't believe Carly started her affair after he slept with Sam.
Sonny leaves the penthouse and goes to see Sam. Sam returns to her hotel room to find Sonny there with some romantic candlelit table. He explains to Sam that Michael isn't going to be happy seeing him smile when he is around a woman who isn't his mother. Sonny tells Sam that she can get out of the affair anytime she wants to. Carly and Alexis are at her house when Alexis gets the call from the family court and tells the person on the other end that they will cooperate fully. Michael is going to be questioned today by the court as to who he wants to live with. He tries to play sick with Jason, who tells him to tell the judge the truth.
