Sonny & Carly #28  April 8 - May 28, 2004 – 8 hr edit

Carly goes back into the basement. She tells Alcazar that she doesn't want him in her life and that she won't change her mind. Alcazar dares her to call Sonny and Jason and tell him what he did and where he is and let them kill him but he doesn't think she can let them kill him. He tells her that she can do whatever she thinks she should do to him but that won't change the fact that he will always love her. Carly tells Alcazar that she never loved him, only Sonny and tries to get him to agree to stay out of her life before she releases him from the basement. Alcazar stands up and grabs her. He tells her that he doesn't believe that she doesn't care about what happens to him. Jason shows up at Carly's after getting her frantic message. Courtney tries to cover up what Carly is doing in the basement. Jason asks her what she is hiding from him. Courtney lies to him and tells him that Carly doesn't need his help anymore and that she will be fine.  

Carly comes upstairs and panics when she sees Jason in the living room. She tells him that she doesn't need him anymore and that she is okay now that Courtney was here to talk to. Jason informs her that the assassin had ties with Louis Alcazar, Lorenzo's brother and that proves that Alcazar had that bomb planted in Sonny's limo. Carly tries to change the subject and evade his questions. Jason decides to leave but makes it clear that he knows they are hiding something from him. Carly tells her she will convince Alcazar that she doesn't love him and make him leave her alone and leave town. She goes back into the basement. She tells Alcazar that she doesn't want him in her life and that she won't change her mind. Alcazar dares her to call Sonny and Jason and tell him what he did and where he is and let them kill him but he doesn't think she can let them kill him. He tells her that she can do whatever she thinks she should do to him but that won't change the fact that he will always love her. Because she did not want him dead, he reasoned that she did care what happened to him. Carly took Michael and Morgan to the penthouse and privately called Courtney to go check on Alcazar. Michael asked Carly if she still loved his daddy, and she responded that she always would. Just then, Sonny and Sam arrived, in a heavy embrace. Alcazar remained handcuffed as the basement began to flood. He reached for something to try to undo the handcuffs, causing a set of shelves to fall onto him.

Carly, Michael, and Morgan wait for Sonny to arrive home, but are all shocked to see him walk in, making out with a half-naked Sam. Sonny is equally surprised to see his wife and children in the living room, and Carly sends the boys upstairs before things get uglier. She demands that Sonny kick Sam out, but Sam tells Carly that she lives there now. Sam decides to leave and give them some privacy anyway, and once she's gone Carly blasts Sonny for moving his girlfriend into the apartment where he sees his sons. Sonny shifts the conversation from Sam to the real reason Carly is there, and Carly tells him that she found out Alcazar was behind the bombing. Sonny immediately orders Alcazar dead, but Carly refuses to confess to his location. Sonny continues to hound her, and wants to know why she's protecting Alcazar. Carly admits that while she doesn't love or trust him, Alcazar was good to her at a time when Sonny was horrible, and she wants him gone, but not murdered.

Courtney runs to Carly's house, and finds an unconscious Alcazar facedown in water in the basement. She drags him out of the water, and upstairs, where he finally regains his breathing. At that moment, Jason walks in, demanding to know what is going on. Courtney explains that after Carly discovered Alcazar was behind the bombing, she chained him up in the basement, and that later it flooded. Jason tells Courtney to leave, and decides to handle the situation himself. Courtney resists, but Jason forces her. As he notifies Sonny that Alcazar is as good as dead, Jason takes a pillow out to muffle his gunshot. Before he can do the deed, however, Courtney knocks him out from behind. Then she grabs Alcazar and tells him to leave town immediately. Having been cut off with Jason on the phone, Sonny orders Max to keep Carly at the penthouse while he rushes to find out if Jason is okay. Courtney helps Jason off the floor once Alcazar has gone, and Jason can't understand why she would knock him out. She tries to explain to him that she didn't want Alcazar's murder to be pinned on him, but Jason is clearly angry. Sonny barges in, demanding to know where Alcazar is, and Courtney attempts to explain her actions. Sonny isn't interested, and leaves to find out where Alcazar has gone. Courtney tries again to make Jason understand, but he tells her she wanted out of his life, and she needs to stay out of it.

Sam returns to the penthouse to find Sonny gone, but Carly still there. Desperate to find a way out of the apartment without being stopped by the guards, Carly goads Sam by calling her a slut and telling her Sonny will never love her. Angry, Sam shoves Carly into a table, breaking a vase and causing Max to rush in to find out what has happened. Carly slips past him and out of the penthouse. She races back to her house, and Courtney explains the events. Carly is terribly sorry for the trouble her situation has caused Courtney regarding Jason, but Courtney tells her that it was her choice. She warns Carly to get Alcazar out of town before Sonny kills him, and Carly takes off to find her husband.

Michael emerges from upstairs after his mom leaves, and finds Sam sitting in the living room. He tells her that she doesn't belong at the penthouse, and that he wants her to leave. Sam tries manipulate Michael into liking her by being nice to him and offering him cookies, but Michael is too smart for her and tells her that she's not his friend. He repeats that she upsets his mother and that she has no place in his family and he wants her gone.

Alcazar arrives home to find Sonny waiting for him with a gun. Alcazar taunts Sonny over Carly, but before Sonny can kill him, Carly arrives at the apartment as well. She tells Sonny again that she doesn't love Alcazar and never did, therefore Sonny needn't kill him. Alcazar tries to interrupt, but she shuts him up and tells him she hates him. In order to prove that she truly does despise Alcazar, Sonny grabs her hand and shoves his gun into it. He orders her to kill Alcazar herself. Carly tries to convince Sonny that Lorenzo is out of Carly's life for good, but Sonny hands his gun to Carly and orders Carly to go ahead and kill Lorenzo if she really wants Sonny to believe that her claims are true. Lorenzo observes that, if Carly really does despise Alcazar, as Carly has declared, it will not be hard for Carly to pull the trigger.

Meanwhile, at the Penthouse, Max interrupts Jason with a message about Sonny's business. Jason warns Max never to talk about business in front of Courtney and goes out into the hall with Max. While Jason is gone, Courtney grabs the phone, calls Lucky, and suggests that Lucky take a squad car and some uniformed officers around to Lorenzo's apartment because Alcazar's life might be in danger. When Jason returns, Courtney continues to try to convince Jason that she stopped him from murdering Lorenzo to save Jason from a prison sentence for murder, but Jason angrily accuses Courtney of just making matters worse by interfering in business. Their angry voices waken Michael, who rushes into the living room and begs Jason and Courtney to quit fighting.

Sonny tells Carly that he will turn Lorenzo loose if Carly can just honestly admit that she loves Lorenzo. Carly protests that there is no pleasing Sonny's insatiable demands that Carly prove her loyalty over and over again. Carly reminds Sonny of the many times that Sonny has betrayed Carly but Sonny ignores Carly's defense. Angrily stating that she will prove her loyalty to Sonny by shooting Alcazar, Carly squeezes off a shot, just as Lucky, Ric and a group of police officers arrive at Lorenzo's door. When Ric and the police burst in, Ric is surprised to find Lorenzo still standing. Carly quickly hides the gun she is holding. When Ric demands an explanation, Lorenzo claims that Ric must be mistaken about having heard a gunshot.

Ric is frustrated when Lorenzo and Sonny both claim that no gun went off. Ric lets slip that the police arrived because they received a report from Courtney that Lorenzo's life was in danger. But Sonny coldly informs Ric that Lorenzo is perfectly safe, because Alcazar is under Carly's protection.

After Sonny angrily storms away, Ric warns Carly that Sonny and Lorenzo will keep on trying to kill one another until one succeeds and the other goes to prison for murder. Ric appeals to Lorenzo to think about pressing charges against Sonny if Lorenzo wants to stay alive, but Lorenzo ignores Ric's warnings. Observing that he hopes that Carly's good opinion is worth

risking Lorenzo's life, Ric storms away. After Ric leaves, Carly informs Lorenzo that "there is no us." Carly is stunned when Lorenzo informs her

that he plans to move his international headquarters to Port Charles and stay in town. When Carly asks why Lorenzo would be risking his life that way, Lorenzo points out that the incident they just endured proves that Sonny is abusive, possessive and manipulative with Carly. Lorenzo reminds Carly that Carly nearly committed murder, in spite of Carly's aversion to such actions, simply because Sonny ordered her to commit murder! Carly informs Lorenzo that she does not need Lorenzo hanging around town, supposedly 'protecting' Carly from her abusive relationship with Sonny. Then Carly storms away.  

Meanwhile, Sonny returns to the Penthouse and Jason reports that Samantha is packing. Sonny declares that there is no hope that Sonny would ever reconcile with Carly, because Carly is still too besotted with Alcazar, and deliberately missed blowing their enemy away. Sonny explains that Ric arrived just as Sonny would have been killing Alcazar because Courtney called the police! Courtney returns to the Penthouse and Sonny accuses Courtney of betraying him. Sonny announces that he never wants to see Courtney again. Samantha creeps into the stairwell and eavesdrops on Sonny's angry exchange with his sister.

Later, at home, Carly assures Michael and Morgan that the three of them together will be enough. At the Penthouse, Sonny warns Jason and Courtney that if Courtney crosses Sonny again, Sonny will deal with Courtney as if she was any other enemy. After Sonny goes upstairs to tell Sam that he wants her to stay, Samantha admits that she listened to Sonny's argument with his sister. Sonny declares that his relationship with Carly is over for good, because the one thing that Sonny can never forgive is betrayal. Then Sonny begins to kiss Sam.

At Kelly's Ric meets with a private investigator he hired to dig up information on Alexis' past relationship with Sonny, both professionally and personally. The P.I. tells him that Alexis denied having had any

affair or fling with Sonny when she was running for D.A. Ric asks the P.I. if it is true that Alexis was pregnant not long after Carly returned alive and well from a car accident and got back with Sonny. The P.I. confirms that it was in that time period. He tells Ric that Ned is on the baby's birth certificate as the father. 

Courtney shows up at Carly's house with a coffee and muffin for Carly. She asks Carly if she would be interested in going into a new business with her as a partner. Carly apologizes to her for getting her in the middle of her problems with Alcazar and Sonny. Courtney tells her it is okay Courtney points out that Carly is a great businesswoman and that she would be an asset to her as a partner. Carly wonders why Courtney is suddenly so interested in doing business with her. Courtney tells her that she no longer wants a business that would force her to have to deal with either Sonny or Jason on a daily basis. Justus shows up with the legal papers she needed as well as the divorce papers for her to sign. Carly asks her what is going on. Courtney tells her she is selling the shipping business she inherited from that wealthy woman and starting something new. Justus leaves them alone to talk.

She tells Carly that Sonny told her that she was no longer a sister to him and that Jason looked at her as if she was a stranger to him and wanted to end their marriage. Carly tries to persuade her not to give up on her marriage. Courtney tells her that it is too late for her and Jason and turns the tables on Carly and suggests that Carly stop being so stubborn and try to get Sonny back. Michael overhears their conversation. Carly tells her that it is going to be hard to get Sonny back now that he is with Sam every night.

Sonny tells Jason that there is going to be a problem if Jason is still in love with Courtney. He tells Jason that she is dead to him for betraying him that way and that she should be dead to him too. Jason has a harder time ignoring his feelings for Courtney. He tells Sonny that he will not be in Courtney's life anymore and that Sonny should try to understand that is the best that he can do. Sonny doesn't really like Jason's answer but doesn't say more.

Carly goes over to Sonny's penthouse and finds Sam in the living room. She accuses Sam of going through Sonny's papers. Sam informs her that they are her things. Carly tells Sam to get out. Jason shows up and asks Sam to leave for awhile. Carly starts to defend Courtney and asks Jason to stop following Sonny's orders for once and follow his heart. Jason tells her that he can't be with Courtney anymore and that they aren't right for each other.

Sonny shows up at Kelly's after Mike calls him. Sonny had told Sam about Mike's abandonment of him as a child and that he felt betrayed by him and that whenever someone betrays him he can't let them be close to him anymore. Mike asks Sonny why he can't forgive his sister and tells him that he can handle it if Sonny doesn't want to speak to him or be in his life but not to take it out on Courtney. Courtney shows up at Kelly's and hears them arguing about her. She tells Mike that she can come back later and asks him to leave it alone. Mike refuses to let it go and turns

the tables on Sonny. He accuses Sonny of doing the same thing he has never forgiven him for, leaving his wife and kids and sleeping with other women. He also accuses Sonny of running away just like he did. Back at Carly's place, Michael tells baby Morgan that he needs to do something

to help bring their mommy and daddy back together and that he needs to get himself kidnapped to bring them closer together to find him.

Carly tried to convince Jason that he still loved Courtney, but he did not agree. He said he did love her at one time but that he no longer knew her. Jason stated that the conversation was not even about his relationship but about Carly's relationship with Sonny. Mike lit into Sonny at Kelly's, with Courtney and Sam present, and said that Sonny was disloyal as father, brother, son, and husband. Sonny ordered Mike to choose between him and Courtney. Mike chose Courtney.

Sam tried to reason with Sonny as he prepared to leave but was told by him to stay out of it. Sam followed him outside but still could not get Sonny to listen to reason. She left as Mike and Courtney stepped outside, and Mike applauded the fact that Sonny was running off the girlfriend, too. Carly then arrived and told Sonny to apologize to Courtney; if not, he would not be able to see Michael and Morgan again. Sonny replied by stating that, if that were the bargain, he would just have to drag her back into court in order to assume sole custody for himself.

When Sonny returned to the penthouse, Sam said she knew she had overstepped but that it would not be the last time, so, if he could not accept that, then she should just go. Sonny admitted he should have apologized to his father and sister. Then, he surprised Sam with roses.

Michael prepared a fake ransom note as he planned to stage his own kidnapping in order to bring his parents back together. Later, playing alone in the woods, he imagined Carly and Sonny joining forces while worried about him. When Carly returned home, Leticia was panicked and showed Carly the ransom note. Seeing that the note demanded $500 for Michael's return, Carly realized that Michael was setting everything up. In the woods, Michael discovered a well pump and then fell into the abandoned well!

As Sonny lies in the aftermath of sex with Sam, Carly grows anxious when she cannot find Michael. Having discovered Michael's fake ransom note, Carly assumes that he is in the house and angry, but her search proves futile and she grows worried. Courtney recieves a frantic call from Carly, which sends Courtney running to her house to help search for Michael. The two women continue to search, but finally give in and call Sonny and Jason when they come up empty handed. Jason and Sonny both snub Courtney, and Jason leaves to search for Michael in the woods. Courtney gives Sonny and Carly space to talk, and the two attempt to find a common ground for the sake of their son's. Sonny takes a few jabs at Carly, but she's able to remind him that they need to present a united front if they are going to help their children.

Jason continues to search in the park for Michael, and is shocked to suddenly see the boy at the bottom of an empty well. He yells down to Michael, but gets no response. As he attempts to get a reaction, Alcazar shows up and begins to offer his assistance. They call the paramedics, and Jason jumps down the well to Michael. Unable to wake him, Jason hoists Michael up to Alcazar, who pulls him out of the well. They rush him back to Carly's and wait for the paramedics.

Carly and Sonny try desperately to find a common ground for the sake of their children. They are able to put down their guards somewhat, and admit that their love for each other still exists. They agree that they've become incompatible, but it is obvious that doesn't change their strong draw to each other. Their close moment is interrupted when Jason and

Alcazar rush in with an unconscious Michael. Paramedics arrive and rush them to the hospital, where Carly and Sonny wait in fear over the condition of their son. They both attempt to get through to him, but it is Jason who gets him to finally wake up and ask if his attempt to get his parents back together worked.

As they move Michael to ICU, Ric lingers in another part of the hospital, speaking to the man who switched the paternity test on Kristina. He gets the tech to admit that Sonny is the real father, and he prepares to use his information. Before he can leave, Carly rushes by and is stopped by Alexis herself. Ric hangs around the corner and tries to listen in as Alexis blasts Carly for ratting her out to Sonny. Carly tells her that Sonny doesn't know the truth, and it's only thanks to Carly. Alexis begins to rip into her regarding the quality of Carly's motherhood, when Sonny walks up behind her and warns her to back down. He asks Alexis how far she's going to push him, and does she want him to send Kristina back to her father?

At the nurses' station, as Ric listens in, Alexis blasts Carly for blabbing the secret about Kristina's parentage to Sonny. As Carly angrily denies Alexis's accusation, Sonny suddenly shows up and warns Alexis to quit pushing him. Then Sonny threatens to try to reunite Kristina with her father and snarls at Alexis that he has the power to ruin her. Ric comes out of hiding to intervene and angrily reminds Sonny that Ric has the power to arrest Sonny if Sonny continues to threaten innocent citizens. However, when Ric tells Alexis that he will be happy to run Sonny in to the Port Charles Police Department that very moment, Alexis refuses to even consider running Sonny in. Ric warns Sonny to quit bullying Alexis or Ric will arrest Sonny, with or without Alexis' statement.

Carly drops veiled hints to Alexis about exposing all of Alexis's lies. Then Carly coldly informs Ric that Carly believes that Alexis still has "a thing" for Sonny! Alexis informs Ric that Michael is in the hospital and that Carly is just an unfortunate victim of stress. After Alexis storms away, Ric offers Sonny his sympathy about Michael's injuries, but Sonny coldly rejects Ric's offer of sympathy and warns Ric to just stay away from Sonny's family. Sonny then rehashes a list of Ric's short-comings, promising that, one day, Sonny will succeed in snapping Ric like a twig.

The doctor arrives at Michael's room and informs Jason that they need to take Michael up for a CAT scan. When Jason leaves Michael's room, Jason realizes that Courtney has been waiting outside. When Courtney announces her plan to go be with Carly, Jason orders Courtney to just go home, because Jason is afraid that, if Sonny sees Courtney, it will just provoke a new fight. Courtney angrily refuses to take Jason's orders and declares that she plans to stand by Carly, whether Jason and Sonny like it or not. Then Courtney storms away.

After Michael returns from his CAT scan, a doctor informs Sonny and Carly that Michael has internal bleeding around the kidney and the medical staff will need to keep Michael in the hospital for a few days to see if Michael needs surgery. The doctor warns Sonny and Carly that Michael has a life-threatening injury. Jason arrives a few moments later and Sonny informs Jason about the grave news they have just received. When Carly visits Michael, Michael promises that he will never do anything bad again if Sonny and Carly will just reunite. When Jason visits Michael, Jason is surprised when Michael sadly confides that Sonny would not promise to put their family back together.

As Jason tries to explain things to Michael, Carly discovers Lorenzo, waiting in the hall. Carly tearfully thanks Lorenzo for saving Michael's life and apologizes for holding Lorenzo at gunpoint. When Carly breaks down in tears, she throws herself in Lorenzo's arms and Lorenzo happily lets Carly cry on his shoulder. Sam finds Sonny and is surprised when Sonny thanks Sam for blurting out to Lorenzo that Michael was missing because it was Lorenzo who discovered Michael in the well and got the boy out of the well in time to save his life! Then Sonny confides to Sam that Michael wants to come home but that what Michael wants is for Michael, Morgan and Carly to return to the Penthouse to live together. Sonny sadly reports that, no matter how much Michael wants Sonny and Carly to resume their relationship, Sonny believes that his marriage to Carly is over for good and there is no going back!

Sonny and Carly hold a vigil in Michael's room in ICU. Michael asks them if they are getting back together again. They try to explain to him that they aren't getting back together and try to get him to understand that even if they are divorcing, they will still be a family. Michael tells them he wants to move back and live with Sonny and wants them to live together again. Carly tells him that they have a wonderful new home now and he can see Sonny as much as he wants. Michael doesn't like that scenario and turns his head and ignores them. Sonny and Carly try to get him to understand that he will get use to this new arrangement after awhile.

The doctor tells them that he wants Michael to stay at the hospital another day or so they can keep an eye on him. Jason had gone to see Michael. Michael asks to see Sam. Sam comes in at his request. Michael asks her to leave and not come back. He tells her he will have Jason give her as much money as she wants if she agrees to leave town and not come back. She tells him she never wanted to hurt him or his family and is just a friend of Sonny's. Sam leaves his room and tells Jason what Michael offered her. Jason is amused by Michael's cunning. He offers her money to leave town if she still wants it. She tells him that Sonny doesn't want her to leave town and wouldn't be happy if he found out that Jason paid her off to leave town and rejects his offer again.

Emily comes to the hospital. Jason fills her in on what Michael has been up to with trying to bribe Sam into leaving town after already faking his own kidnapping to try and get his parents back together. He tells her that he is trying to back off from hanging around Michael too much and asks her to go get an update on Michael's condition. Sonny and Carly talk. Carly doesn't like it when Sonny tells her he doesn't want Courtney around Michael or Morgan. She tells him that will hurt Michael and Morgan not to see their aunt and asks him what he will do if Michael or Morgan do something he doesn't like, and if he will reject them from his life then too. He tells her that won't happen. They agree that they need to put their hurt feelings aside and do what is best for Michael right now. They go back and talk to Michael. Michael starts to grab his stomach and tells them he is hurting real bad. They get the doctor. The doctor runs some tests and confirms their worst fears, Michael has a hematoma that needs to be removed surgically right now or his life could be in jeopardy.

Sonny and Carly were concerned as Michael went into surgery to stop the internal bleeding. Emily asked Monica to observe during the surgery to keep everyone updated. As Monica was speaking to Carly in the corridor, an alarm in the O.R. sounded! When Monica returned, she announced that the surgery was successful, but, because Michael had lost so much blood, his blood was not clotting properly. Sonny told Monica that everything possible had to be done. Monica exploded, citing that she was Michael's grandmother, so of course she wanted the best for her grandson and that if Sonny hadn't stolen him like he stole Jason from her and like he steals everything else, perhaps this wouldn't have happened. Further, she spat that he would have been better off raised by the Quartermaines or Jason, rather than two parents who use children as a weapon and decide living arrangements based on who is sleeping with whom or whose life is being threatened on any particular day!

Once Michael was moved to ICU, Carly spoke to him while he was unconscious, promising things were going to get better. To Jason, Sonny blamed himself. Sitting with his son, Sonny begged for God's help and promised to put the family back together if Michael survived. Sonny makes a deal with God, that if He spares Michael, Sonny will put their family back together. Michael briefly opens his eyes and says "Daddy," but then suddenly the alarms go off as his blood pressure plummets. Doctors rush in, and Carly nears a breakdown as they try to work on Michael. Sonny remains convinced that all will be okay, and is confident when the doctor tells them that Michael made a sudden turnaround and is stable.

Sonny tells Carly about his deal with God, and how God saved Michael, but before he can tell her what he promised, Courtney interrupts them with balloons for Michael. Sonny takes that time to tell Jason to notify Sam that Sonny needs to speak to her, and then he returns to Michael's side. He again takes Carly aside and tells her that he made a deal with God, but finally confesses his part of the bargain is to put the family back together. He tells Carly that he wants her and the boys to move back into the penthouse. A stunned Carly tells him no.

Sam goes to the hospital to first find Sonny. When she spots him with Carly and Michael, she leaves and goes to her boat to finally uncover the truth. She takes the test, and cries when she gets the positive reading. Jason suddenly interrupts her, and she hides the test behind her as he tells her that Sonny wants to see her. Sam is devastated by the results of her pregnancy test, and even more upset when Jason shows up at her boat informing her that Sonny wants to see her. Assuming the worst, she tells him that Sonny will have to find her to end things, and she leaves. She heads to a clinic for a follow up to the test, and the doctor confirms that she is 10 weeks pregnant. She imagines both happy and hateful feelings from Sonny as she breaks the news, but she finally calls him to meet.

Carly is stunned to hear Sonny say that he wants her and the boys to move back in. She refuses and tells him that Michael is too smart to not realize they are only playing the part for him. Sonny insists that he made a deal with God, but Carly tells him no. Later, Courtney attempts to get through to Carly, and tell her that maybe she would be doing herself good by moving home. Carly replies that she's finally broken free of Sonny and is able to stand on her own feet, but Courtney reminds her that she has two children to think of as well. They are interrupted by a call from Alcazar, and Carly rushes off to meet him. He tells her that he loves her and will do anything for her, and the two grow close. As he is about to kiss her, Carly pushes him away, saying that she isn't ready. Alcazar decides she's simply using him to keep Sonny at arm's length. Sad, Carly leaves and heads to the penthouse. Sonny comes home, waiting to meet with Sam and finds Carly instead. Carly tells him that she has decided she will move back home, just as Sam comes up in the hall and overhears.

Sonny finds Carly sitting beside Michael's hospital bed and tells her that he needs to speak to her. Samantha reads a brochure about pregnancy. Carly tells Sonny that the decision to live under the same roof is not going to be as easy as Sonny believes it will be. But Sonny continues to insist that he believes he must keep the promise he made to God when Michael's life was in danger. Sonny returns to the Penthouse and finds Samantha waiting for him with tears in her eyes. When Sonny demands to know why Sam is crying, Sam orders Sonny to just go ahead and say his piece and get it all over with. Sam is stunned when Sonny tells her that he does not plan to end their relationship. Sonny explains that, although Carly, Michael and Morgan are returning to live at the Penthouse because of a promise that Sonny made to God, Sonny wants to keep Sam nearby. Sonny assures Sam that, in Sonny's opinion, it would never be possible for Sonny to reconcile with Carly! Samantha agrees to go along with Sonny's plan!

Lorenzo returns to the hospital to check on Michael and Carly tries to apologize for her abrupt departure the previous evening. However, Lorenzo confides that he knows that Carly only turned to Alcazar in an attempt to drive Sonny away. Lorenzo urges Carly to stand up to Sonny for once in her life and just say "No!" to Sonny's latest request for Carly to move back in to the Penthouse. However, Carly protests that she is going along with Sonny's plan for the children's sake. Lorenzo warns Carly that silent anger and unspoken suffering can be just as devastating to children as separated parents! Lorenzo again warns Carly that she is merely sacrificing herself on Sonny's altar and reminds Carly that, in the past, Sonny has abused Carly emotionally. Lorenzo urges Carly to open up her eyes and realize that Sonny will surely use Carly's time with Lorenzo to continue to punish and control Carly. Lorenzo confides that it bothers him that Carly is so used to being mistreated by Sonny that it does not even seem to bother her! Lorenzo declares that he can no longer handle standing by while Carly returns to a life that he can see will be destructive to her.

After Lorenzo storms away, Carly returns to visit with Michael. While Carly is cheering Michael up with some Knock - Knock jokes, Sonny arrives and announces to Michael that, when Michael is released from the Hospital, Michael, Morgan and Carly will be returning home to the Penthouse to live with Sonny. Michael leaps to the conclusion that Sonny and Carly plan a full reconciliation. Later, Sonny informs Carly that he will be sleeping in the guest room and Carly guesses that Sonny plans to make arrangements to keep Samantha hanging around as well.

Sam goes to the clinic to meet with a female counselor. The counselor tells her there are options and asks her about the baby's father. Sam tells her that the father of her baby was in the process of getting a divorce when they met and that he has two sons that he loves very much. She tells her that the father of her baby doesn't know she is pregnant and doesn't wish him to know since he recently got back with his wife and that she doesn't want to complicate his life any further. The counselor tells her that there is always adoption to consider. Sam tells her she could never give her baby up for adoption since her own mother ran out on her as a child and she couldn't do that to her own child. She also explains that the kind of work she does doesn't fit well with a child. Sam tells the counselor that she wants to have an abortion as soon as possible. The counselor respects her decision and tells her to wait for a doctor to come in and get things rolling. Sam waits in the examining room with the door opened.

Emily walks past the room at the clinic and sees Sam. She approaches Sam, who asks her what she is doing there at the clinic. Emily explains that she volunteers at the clinic a few times a week. She notices that Sam is crying and asks her what is wrong. Back at the hospital, Sonny and Carly discuss their living arrangements. Carly can't believe it when Sonny tells her he intends to keep seeing Sam even though she is moving back in with the boys. Carly tells him that she won't be sleeping in his bed, after he slept with Sam there at the penthouse. Sonny agrees with her that he will be seeing Sam outside of the penthouse. Carly agrees she will see Alcazar outside of the penthouse if she wants to. Sonny tells her he will do whatever it takes to make Michael happy. Carly tells him she refuses to follow his rules anymore and then notices that Michael can overhear them and thinks they are fighting. They stop arguing and agree not to interfere in each other's personal lives for Michael's sake. 

Carly questions whether they are making the right decision to live together again since Michael will pick up on any tension that is bound to be around them. Sonny tells her they are doing the right thing for Michael and walks in to see Michael. Michael asks them if they are fighting again. They deny they were arguing and get Michael to rest. Sonny leaves to go back to the penthouse. Courtney shows up after Sonny leaves on purpose to avoid an argument with Michael around. Carly tells her that Sonny plans to keep Sam as his mistress on the side.Courtney is surprised by Sonny's behavior. Carly tells her that she will move in with Sonny again for her children and that she must do what is best for them. Carly leaves Courtney to hang out with Michael.

Sonny returns home and gets the cold shoulder from Jason. Jason tells him that Sam is probably at her boat. Sonny asks him to tell him what is bothering him. Jason tells him that he doesn't like it that Sonny is lying to Michael. Sonny doesn't understand how he is lying to him. Jason explains to Sonny that Michael is going to figure out that Sonny and Carly are

faking it and that he really wants his parents to be like they were before, in love with each other. Sonny tells Jason that he needs Sam to stay in his life to protect him from his feelings for Carly. He tells Jason that he is afraid to let Carly get close to him again because she has the capacity to hurt him deeply like she did when she hooked up with Alcazar before.

Sonny ends up going to Sam's boat and waiting for her in her room, unaware that there are pregnancy brochures laying on the table just a few feet away. Michael is happy to see Jason and Courtney and tells them that his parents are getting back together and asks them if they are going to get back together so they can all be one big happy family again. Jason and Courtney don't know what to tell him.

After running into Alcazar on the docks, Carly found Courtney and mentioned knowing about the sale of the waterfront property. Carly also said she wished she could hate Alcazar. Sam decided to terminate her pregnancy. Emily, there as a volunteer, saw Sam. Sam bolted, but Emily learned of Sam's plans from a staff member. Sam returned to her boat, where Sonny was waiting. Sonny offered to provide her with somewhere else to live, but she refused. During a heart to heart, they were interrupted by Emily. 

After Sonny left, Emily tried to help Sam and reminded her of her options. Sam returned to the hospital to follow through with her plans of an abortion. Jason found Emily, upset, on the waterfront. She said she was thinking about the baby she could never have with Nikolas and wondered how anyone could decide to purposely get rid of a baby. Jason wanted to know why she was thinking about the topic, and she told him that Sam was pregnant and planning to terminate the pregnancy. Sonny and Carly let Michael know that he could leave the hospital the next day. Pretending to read a story, Michael tried to engineer a kiss between Sonny and Carly.

Michael continues to use his condition to manipulate his parents into playing the happy family. Sonny and Carly later discuss his traits and which parent he inherited them from, but their light conversation is interrupted by Emily, searching for Sonny to break the news about Sam.

When Emily realizes that Carly is moving back in with Sonny, she makes up a story about being at the hospital to cover her original purpose. Sonny goes off to find Jason, but Carly knows that Emily is lying. She confronts her, but Emily manages to dodge the situation. Sonny arrives at Courtney's office and asks if she's alright. Ric immediately shares with Sonny the fact that Courtney sold the property to Alcazar. Courtney attempts to explain, but Sonny leaves. Later he meets Ric on the docks, and Ric warns him that if Alcazar ships anything illegal, Sonny and Courtney will go down as well.

Carly rushes over to make sure that Courtney is safe. Courtney tells her that Alcazar saved her life, and Carly warns her to not trust him. They consider that Alcazar set the scene up to look like the hero for Carly, but Courtney says he actually seemed sincere. Courtney wonders how she deals with the fact that a man she despises saved her life.

Sam goes to the abortion clinic to end her pregnancy, but is unable to go through with it. Just after she decides against it, Jason arrives, having been notified of Sam's situation by Emily. He takes Sam back to her boat, and she begins to cry and attempt to get his sympathy for her situation. She asks him if he thinks she's trash, and although he says no, he asks her if she got pregnant to trap Sonny. Sam reels at his accusation, and cries further for herself and her situation. Jason demands that she tell Sonny about the baby, and discuss things with him, but she says she can't. She claims she doesn't want to ruin Sonny's life with his family, but Jason tells her that lying to him is worse, and that he will find out. Just as he says this, Sonny walks into the room.

Carly and Courtney discuss Alcazar, unaware that he is listening from the doorway. Courtney doesn't want to owe him for saving her life, but Carly warns her to not trust Alcazar at all. They continue to discuss him, but move to Carly's situation with Sonny. Carly says she'd love to see Sam go down, and Courtney laughs but points out that the only reason Sonny is with Sam is because he was angry at Carly. She's sure that once Carly and Sonny live together again, they will fall back in love. Carly tells her she isn't planning on it, and that her priority is now her children. She admits that Alcazar is a safety net for her, but says she has to concentrate on her sons. Later as she packs her stuff, Carly is interrupted by Alcazar. She tells him that she's moving back to Sonny's the next day, and he again expresses his concern for her. He tells her she deserves more, but she says that she must do it for her children. Alcazar tells Carly to remember that he loves her and always will, but he might not be around if she changes her mind.

Jason warns Sam about lying to Sonny, and demands she tell him the truth about her pregnancy. Sonny interrupts them, but Sam covers and says she wanted Jason to know she wouldn't stand in the way of Sonny's family. Sonny asks Sam what is wrong, and she tries to say nothing, but instead faints. She awakens to find Jason gone, and Sonny wanting to know the story. She tells him she decided that she isn't handling the situation with him and his family as well as she thought, and she's considering leaving town. Sonny replies that if that is best for her, then she should do it, but he hopes she won't leave with anger or regret toward him. She promises no, and they begin to kiss. She pulls back and tells him that Michael needs him, and he agrees and leaves. Sam quietly tells him she loves him after he closes the door behind him. Sonny returns to the hospital, and Jason is stunned to realize that Sam didn't tell him she was pregnant. Before he has a chance to say anything to Sonny, Carly walks up and the two declare to Jason their brave front for the sake of their sons.

Carly and Morgan arrive to take up residence at the Penthouse, but Carly is disappointed to learn that Sonny is not there to greet them! At the same time, Sonny arrives aboard Samantha's boat and wakes Sam from a sound sleep. Sam knocks over a lamp in her haste to get to the door. Sonny observes that Sam is still very pale, but Sam covers by claiming that she was working on a bid for a salvage operation and was up late. Sonny tells Sam that he feels she is vulnerable living aboard the boat and urges Sam to let Sonny rent an apartment for her. But Sam refuses because she does not want to appear to be a kept woman and Sam asks Sonny not to ever offer money to her ever again. Sonny leaves when Max calls to inform Sonny that Carly and Morgan have arrived at the penthouse.

Sonny arrives at the Penthouse and makes plans with Carly to pick Michael up at the Hospital. When Sonny apologizes for not being there when Carly arrived, Carly immediately guesses that Sonny was with Sam and coldly reminds Sonny that they are merely parenting together and their relationship does not go any farther than that! Mike confides some of the details of Sonny's life to Sam. After observing that Adela was just not strong enough to leave her abusive husband, even though Deke was beating Adela and Sonny, Mike praises Carly for her fierce loyalty and reminds Sam that Sonny will always reunite with Carly because Carly is the mother of Sonny's son!

Sonny and Carly arrive at the hospital to pick up Michael. While Carly visits Michael, Sonny confides to Jason that Sonny believes that something is going on with Sam and that Sonny wants Jason to keep an eye on Sam. Jason tries to tell Sonny that Jason knows what is going on with Sam, but Sonny tells Jason that he can't go into it all while Sonny is preparing to take Michael home then Sonny leaves to check on Michael.

Sonny reassures Michael that they are all going home together because they are a family. In the meantime, Emily assures Jason that she just babysat for Alexis and that Alexis seems to be doing a fine job as a single mother so perhaps Sam would fare as well! But Jason strongly assures Emily that he knows that Sonny would never make the choice to allow Sonny's child to grow up without Sonny!

Michael arrives home with Sonny and Carly and is assured by Sonny that the homecoming is for real. Later, Michael asks Sonny if he is in trouble for pretending to be kidnapped and Sonny sentences Michael to no TV or video games for two months. Michael admits that he is not sorry that his escapade brought Sonny and Carly back together, however briefly. After Michael and Morgan go to bed, Carly tells Sonny that Michael acts exactly like Sonny when it comes to getting what he wants. Sonny observes that, while he is angry with Michael for scaring everyone with the fake kidnapping, Sonny confides that he can respect Michael for fighting for his family without giving up.

Carly tells Sonny that she doesn't want to go back to what they were before and that they would be best off living separate lives even though they would be living under the same roof. Sonny tells Carly he has to be somewhere. She guesses that he is going to go see Sam at her boat. He doesn't deny it. She tells him that she is fine with him seeing Sam if he wants and that she won't get jealous anymore as long as he respects that she has her own life too. Sonny agrees to let her live her own life outside of the penthouse and the two shake on the deal.

Michael comes downstairs and asks them to take him to the park to play and be a family again. Carly tells Michael that he needs to rest first then she and Leticia will take him to the park. He asks her why Sonny can't go. Carly goes to tell him that Sonny has an important meeting and can't come this time. Sonny interrupts them and tells Michael he will go to the park with them later after he rests and will cancel his appointment. Carly asks him after Michael goes back upstairs to rest if he is sure he wants to cancel out of Sam. He tells her that it will be fine. Sonny calls Sam on her cell-phone. Sam answers her phone while Jason is still there. Sonny apologizes to her and explains that he can't see her tonight. She tells him she is fine and tries to hide her disappointment. Jason overhears her on the phone telling Sonny to stop by the next day and see her. 

Jason asks her why she didn't tell Sonny she was pregnant on the phone. She tells him that she can't tell someone news like that over the phone. She tells Jason that she will tell Sonny when the perfect time comes along. Jason tells her that there is no perfect time and that Sonny has a right to know and be allowed to help take care of her. Sam tells him she will tell Sonny soon. Jason tells her that if she doesn't tell Sonny soon, he will tell him himself. Jason shows up at Courtney's office. He tells her that she needs to call Carly soon and try to be there for her because something is going to happen soon where Carly is going to need her love and support. Courtney asks him what Sonny did now to Carly and realizes that Jason won't tell her the big secret. She gets upset with Jason and tells him that she sometimes wishes that she never met him or fell in love with him. Jason is hurt by what she says to him.

Sam shows up at the park while it is raining. She spots Sonny with Carly and Michael sharing a family moment in the gazebo to get out of the rain. She decides to turn around and leave them like that. Carly spots her first trying to leave. She tells Sam to wait and not leave and that it is okay. Sonny doesn't seem too pleased by her presence there.  

Carly, Sonny and Michael took refuge in the park's gazebo during a heavy rain. Sam passed by, trying to go unnoticed, but Carly saw her and forced herself to be kind, inviting her into the shelter. Carly mentioned the coincidence of Sam's presence in the park, and Michael stated to Sam that he wanted to spend time with his family. The Corinthos clan returned to the penthouse. Courtney visited, and Sonny was not pleasant to her, driving her away. This started an argument, a fairly civil one, between Sonny and Carly, prompting his exit from the penthouse. After he had visited Sam on her boat, asked if he could be the baby's father and was asked to leave by Sam, Jax arrived at the penthouse and questioned whether Carly knew everything that was going on with Sam. When Sonny arrived on the boat, Sam was not there, but he found a letter from her and began reading it. The first line promised to reveal shocking news!

Sam leaves Sonny a note of goodbye, and gets on a plane to South America to get away from Port Charles. She sits next to a woman who is going to adopt a child from a convent that takes care of unwed mothers. Sam decides that this could be the best option for her situation, and prepares to get information from the woman.

Sonny returns from Sam's boat, and tells Carly that Sam left and that things with her are over. Carly asks him if he's going to go after her, and he says no, but he doesn't know how to feel. She tells him that he could have gotten rid of Sam when Carly moved back in, but he chose not to, and Sonny admits that Sam was his safety net against falling back in love with Carly. Carly counters that Sam was also her guard against allowing herself to go back to Sonny after he hurt her so much. They are able to briefly get past their anger, but soon return to being hurt by one another. Carly goes upstairs as Jax interrupts them to tell Sonny that Sam's baby belongs to Jax. Sonny is stunned by the news of Sam's pregnancy, and grows angry with Jax's threats. The two men almost come to blows, but Jax leaves. Sonny quickly calls his men to find Sam.

Sam goes to the convent in South America, and meets with the nun to discuss giving her baby up for adoption. The nun agrees to house Sam, and take her on as a mother who will give away her baby, but she first questions Sam to see if she really wants to go through with it. She senses conflict in Sam over who will parent the baby once it's born, and asks Sam to describe who she would like to see raise her child. Sam describes Sonny and Carly, along with Michael and Morgan, as the imaginary family that could adopt the baby. When the nun points out that Sam seems to be very specific in her descriptions, Sam remains silent. She is then stunned when the nun suggests that she call the family in question and ask them to adopt the baby.

Sonny orders his men to look for Sam overseas, but keeps his arrangement from Carly. When Carly questions him on Sam, he tells her that he doesn't want to hurt her anymore, and hopes that they can be kind to each other. Carly agrees, and takes the boys to the park to play. Jason arrives at the penthouse, and Sonny asks why he didn't tell him about Sam's pregnancy. Jason explains that Sam was supposed to tell him herself, and Sonny let's Jason know that they have to find Sam in order to see if the baby is his. Jason begins working on the arrangements as Sonny is called to court to testify in Faith's trial. Carly returns from an encounter with Alcazar in the park, and wants to know if Jason is searching for Sam. Clearly uncomfortable, Jason attempts to explain that Sonny must speak to Sam, but Carly should not think the worst. Naturally, she does, and she pleads with Jason to please leave Sam alone and gone.

At the Penthouse, Carly is shocked when Jason refuses to drop the search for Samantha when Carly begs Jason to let Sam just stay gone. Later, Carly meets Courtney in the park and confides to Courtney that Sonny has ordered Jason to find Sam. Carly suggests that, perhaps, in a way, Sam's return would benefit Carly in the long run, since Sam's presence would make it easier for Carly to remember why her relationship with Sonny always ends up with a lot of hurt all around. However, Courtney observes that it appears to her that Carly has already lost her heart again to Sonny. Courtney urges Carly to level with Sonny about Carly's feelings for Sonny. Courtney goes on to suggest that Sonny might possibly be willing to admit that he, also, is still in love with Carly. But Carly reminds Courtney that all she and Sonny seem to do is bring out the worst in each other.

Alexis gets Sonny alone and urges Sonny to let Alexis lead Sonny into a way to retract his statement. But Sonny is mildly amused by Alexis's suggestion that he recant his testimony. When Alexis warns Sonny that he is giving her no choice except to rip him apart on the stand, Sonny smugly advises Alexis that her best bet would be to ask Sonny some harmless questions and then get him off the stand as soon as possible. After Alexis storms away, Jason arrives to report to Sonny that he tracked Samantha down at a convent in Costa Rica. Sonny explains that, since Sonny is tied up in court, Jason should fly to Costa Rica and get Sam. Jason confides that Carly has guessed that Jason is tracking Samantha down for Sonny. Jason reports that, although Carly doesn't yet know that Sam is pregnant, Sonny would be wise to let Carly know the facts now!

When Faith's trial resumes, Alexis tries to push Sonny into an emotional outburst by hammering away about Sonny's hot temper and claustrophobia, but the Judge agrees with Ric that Alexis' line of questioning is irrelevant. When Alexis brings up Sonny's arrests on Rico charges, Sonny smugly points out that he was never convicted on any of those charges because his lawyer always got him acquitted because his lawyer believe that Sonny was a good and principled man. When Ric gets a chance at redirect, Ric gets Sonny to identify Alexis as the lawyer who believed that Sonny was innocent of the Rico charges.

As Jason makes inquiries about Samantha McCall, the Mother Superior leaps to the conclusion that Jason is the father of Sam's baby and advises Jason that, if he were willing to take Sam's baby, Sam might be willing to give the baby to Jason.

Sonny arrives home at the Penthouse and Carly immediately confronts Sonny with the news that Carly knows that Sonny ordered Jason to search for Samantha. Sonny begins to try to explain to Carly that things with Sam have gotten extremely complicated. In Costa Rico, the Mother Superior announces to Sam that the father of her child is waiting to see her. Although Sam declares that her baby's father is the last person she would want to see, the Mother Superior encourages Samantha to at least consult with the baby's father about the child's future. When the Mother Superior goes to get Jason, Samantha tries to slip away by climbing through a window but Jason arrives before Samantha can make good her escape and orders Sam to stay where she is!

Sonny sits down with Carly to tell her that his relationship with Sam has become very complicated and that they have issues to resolve and that is why he wants to find her and talk to her. He upsets Carly further when he admits that Sam is important to him. Carly asks him to make his family a priority and not to go after Sam. She tells him that she should never have agreed to this new setup. Sonny gets a call from Jason informing him that he found Sam and where they are. Sonny tells Carly that he found out where Sam is and he must go to her. He asks Carly to keep things together at home and make up a reason for why he had to leave town for awhile. Carly refuses to make it right for him with Michael. Sonny apologizes to her but leaves anyway. Carly calls Courtney and asks her to come over. She tells Courtney that Sonny went off to be with Sam in Costa Rico. Courtney disagrees with what Sonny is doing but tries to keep Carly from doing something impulsive. Carly tells her that she can't deal with Sonny bringing Sam back with him and thinks she should just take the kids and leave town. Courtney advises her to not do something irrational and that she agreed to do this for Michael's sake. Carly leaves to get some air.

Jason tells Sam to stop running away and deal with what is going on. Sonny shows up and tells her she should have told him she was pregnant. Carly heads out for a walk in the park. Alcazar notices she looks upset about something and calls out her name. She turns around and tells him she has to get going and can't talk now. He asks her why she is upset.

She told him that Sonny had left the country to look for Sam. When Carly left, Lorenzo (who recognized the name of the town where Sam had gone) phoned his new employee, Connor (Nikolas with amnesia) and informed Nik of a change in destination for his first job. Nikolas arrived in Costa Rica a bit later and kept hidden, making a call back to Alcazar and revealing Sam's pregnancy with Sonny as the possible father. Alcazar found Carly and told her he knew why Sonny had gone after Sam because she was pregnant with his child!

Sonny found Sam, and she told him she was unsure of the baby's paternity. Sam confirmed that she did sleep with Jax during the hotel fire because they thought they were going to die. Sonny didn't care that she had been with Jax but wanted to know how long she had known about the pregnancy. He declared he would be part of the baby's life if he was the father and that he didn't want her to give up the child for adoption to strangers. Jax had learned from Carly of Sam's whereabouts, and he arrived, also questioning the paternity. He then informed Sam that he had a court order for her, demanding a paternity test. Sam told them the baby inside her was hers and that they could both go to hell. She ran off, tripped and fell down a stairway!

Carly attempts to process the situation, and although she holds up her guard for Lorenzo, she is devastated. He lets her know that she's welcome to come back to him, but she holds her ground for her family. Michael interrupts their conversation, and loudly demands that Alcazar leave the apartment. Once Alcazar is gone, Carly scolds Michael for his behavior. Later, Courtney arrives and Carly delivers the shocking news.Courtney is immediately sympathetic to Carly, but suddenly realizes that Carly's family could be in the clear. Courtney announces the possibility of Jax being the father of Sam's baby, and assures Carly that if it's the case, all will be well again soon. Carly counters with the question of what if Jax is not the father? She pointedly informs Courtney that she has no intention of standing by while Sonny raises a child with Sam.

While Sam is with the doctor, the nun accuses Jason of being dishonest and allowing her to believe he was the father. She lets it be known that Jason seems to be the best option of the three for Sam, but Jason assures her the baby can not be his. The nun then turns her anger on Sonny and Jax, chastising both men for their arrogance and selfishness. After the doctor is finished, Sam is told that she and her unborn child are both fine, but she is unable to get past both men's lack of regard for her. She calls for Jason in order to get advice, and tells him that she almost thinks that something going wrong with the baby is the best option for everywhere. Jason tells her not to think that way, and feels sorry for Sam. He helps her get her things together, and takes her back to Port Charles. They go to GH to have another examination, and the two run into a surprised Courtney as the get off the elevator.

Sonny returns from Costa Rica, and goes to the penthouse where Carly is waiting. He asks about the boys, and she lets him know they are both asleep. When she asks him about Sam, he hesitates and finally tells her that Sam is pregnant. Carly stares at him, and stuns him with the news that she already knows about Sam's condition. 

Sonny arrives back from South America, and admits to a devastated Carly that Sam is pregnant. Carly shocks him back with the news that she already knows, and they begin to fight. Sonny says he doesn't know what he's going to do, but Carly warns him that if the baby is his, she will not stand by while he raises it. He leaves the penthouse, and an angry Carly rushes out and meets Courtney. Courtney feels for her friend, and is even supportive when Carly announces her plan to fix the DNA test if the baby doesn't belong to Jax. Courtney admits she can understand, but warns Carly to be careful.

Sonny arrives at GH and joins Jax and Sam as they wait for the doctor. The doctor returns to assure Sam her baby is fine, and Jason volunteers to watch her and let her stay with him. Sonny warns Jax that he'll be dead if he does anything to hurt Sonny's child, but Jax ignores him. Sam arrives at Jason's penthouse, and encounter's Carly's wrath. Carly warns her that she'll pay for her conniving ways, and Sam tells her that the pregnancy was an accident. Jason interrupts the women's fight, but Carly does not back down. Carly returns to her penthouse, and is soon followed by Sonny. Confident that her plan will work, Carly surprises Sonny by being supportive, and vowing to stand by him for the sake of their family.

Sonny and Carly prepare to accompany Michael on his first day back at school. However, as they all enter the hallway, Jason and Sam are also in the hallway, arguing. Michael is upset when he overhears Sam talking about her baby and Michael asks Sonny WHY Sam is pregnant and WHY Sam is staying with Jason. When Michael orders Sam to just leave, Michael is surprised when Sonny orders Michael to apologize to Sam! Sonny decides to take Michael for a walk in the park to explain things and announces that they can forget about school until the next day. Later, Carly suddenly bursts into Jason’s and threatens to get even with Sam if Sam ever hurts one of Carly's children again. Carly is surprised when Jason orders Carly to quit jumping all over Sam! After Sam storms away, Carly angrily asks Jason what became of Jason's long-standing friendship with Carly! Carly accuses Jason of turning against Carly because Jason is always leaning over backwards to give Sam every benefit of the doubt. However, Jason argues that the only important person at this point is Sam's baby! Carly finally agrees with Jason but warns Jason to keep Sam away from Carly's children.

In the park, Sonny tries to explain to Michael that Sam helped Sonny out when Sonny needed a friend and Sonny can't be rude to Sam now. But Sonny is stunned when Michael asks why Sonny would be having another baby with Sam if Sonny is really putting his family with Carly, Michael and Morgan back together the way Sonny promised he would. Sonny promises Michael that Sonny is going to fix everything so that everything turns out right for Michael, Morgan and Samantha's new baby.

When Jason and Sam leave for the hospital, they run into Michael and Sonny, returning from the park, and Michael apologizes again to Sam. After Michael goes inside, Jason reports to Sonny that they are headed to the hospital to get an amniocentesis to determine the paternity of Samantha's baby.

Carly reports to Sonny that Michael plans to be a good big brother to Sam's baby. Sonny reports that Sam is going in for paternity tests now and Carly encourages Sonny to go ahead to the hospital, declaring that Carly does not plan to interfere in Sonny's dealings with Sam. Carly tries to locate Bobbie at the Hospital, but Michael overhears Carly calling and asks if he can go along with Carly to see Bobbie. Carly informs her son that she needs to speak to Bobbie about grown-up stuff. When Michael asks if Carly is angry about Samantha's baby, Carly reassures Michael that Sonny probably is not the father of Sam's baby and then Sam will take her baby and go away and they will all be able to forget that Sam ever existed at all!

Sonny arrives at the Hospital to visit Sam and admits that he hopes that he is the father of Sam's baby. Then Sonny promises that if Jax is the father, Sonny will do everything he can to make sure that Jax does not to try to bully the baby away from Sam. Sonny and Sam are shocked when Jax suddenly arrives and announces that if Jax is the father of Sam's baby, Jax does not want Sonny anywhere near Sam until after the baby is born! Back at the Penthouse, Michael promises Morgan that Michael will make sure that Sonny does not love the new baby more than Michael and Morgan!

Courtney and Jason spot Carly moving toward the lab, disguised as a doctor. Jason and Courtney grab Carly and try to convince her to give up her plan to meddle with Sam's DNA tests. Jax is upset when Sam unconsciously clutches Sonny's hand while undergoing the paternity tests.

Carly, dressed in a mask and scrubs is caught by Jason and Courtney trying to go into the lab to switch the paternity test results to show that Jax is the baby's father. Jason tells her it is not the way to go about this whole situation and that Sonny would find out eventually that the baby was his if it really his baby and that her cover-up would tear the family apart even more. Carly tries to justify what she is doing to Jason and Courtney who disagree with her. Carly accuses Jason of being Sam's new best friend and for taking her side over her. Jason tells her he isn't taking sides and doesn't think Sam got pregnant on purpose. Carly worries that Sonny will choose Sam and the baby over his own family if he knows he is the baby's father. Carly storms off, dressed in the scrubs. Bobbie catches her trying to leave the hospital in the scrubs and asks her what she is doing wearing her scrubs at the hospital. Carly tells Bobbie what has happened since she has been out of town. Bobbie urges Carly to leave Sonny for good since he hasn't been a good husband to her lately. Carly hugs her and thanks her and agrees to consider that.

Sonny shows up at the hospital to see Sam at the same time that Jax shows up. Sonny tries to protect Sam from Jax, who insists on raising the baby if he is the father. He tells Sonny if the baby is his child, he doesn't want Sonny anywhere near Sam or the baby. Sam gets sick of them arguing over her and the baby and kicks them out of the examining room. The OB/GYN tells them that they need to take blood from both of them and the results should be ready later that day. Sonny and Jax leave Sam alone. Sonny spots Carly talking to Bobbie. Sonny goes to the chapel. Carly finds him there. She tells him that if the baby turns out to be his child, she will be leaving him and promises that he can see the boys as much as he wants to and assures him that she thinks he is a good father.

Sonny tells her that he doesn't want to go back on his promise to Michael and to God and that he has no intentions of leaving her or the boys. Carly admits to trying to break into the lab and switching the blood samples and that she has decided to be totally honest with him from now. She leaves. Jason shows up at the chapel. Sonny tells him that Carly is going to leave him if he turns out to be the baby's father. Jason asks him how he knows that. Sonny tells him about seeing Carly just a few minutes ago. Sonny is afraid of what this will do to Michael if Carly leaves him and that he is confident he is going to turn out to be the father since he slept with Sam more recently and more often than Jax did. Jason promises to make sure that Michael ends up okay. Sonny fears that Michael will feel betrayed by him the same way he felt betrayed by his own father when he kept leaving and went back on his promises.

Carly goes to see Sam when she is alone. Sam tells her to leave her alone. Carly tells her that she plans to stay out of her life but tells her that she hopes that she gets her heart broken by Sonny because she will deserve it after breaking apart her family the way she did and accuses her of getting pregnant on purpose. Sam tells her that she didn't plan the pregnancy. Carly doesn't believe her and Sam gives up trying to convince her otherwise. Carly leaves the room. Jax and Sonny show up later to hear the results of the paternity test. The OB/GYN comes back and tells them she has the results. She surprises them both when she informs both Jax and Sonny that neither of them are the baby's father. Jax and Sonny both look at Sam at the same time for some explanation. Sam looks as confused as they do.

Learning of the test results, Carly visited Sam and proposed that Sonny's mistress leave town. Carly told Bobbie the results and said she wouldn't be leaving Sonny, at least not that night. Jason admitted to Sonny that he tampered with the results and that Sonny actually was the father. Sonny was furious at the interference. Jason insisted this was the only way for Sonny to hold his family together. Jason reminded Sonny that Michael and Carly used to be his family and that he had done nothing when Sonny took them away; now, Sonny should do everything possible to keep from losing them. Jason said he would pretend to be the father and even lie to Carly, figuring she would eventually believe him since he had never lied to her before. Sonny and Jason went to Sam to tell her what had happened with the test results and to discuss the plan.

Carly enters the hospital room, demanding to know why Sonny is forcing Jason to babysit Sam. Jason is able to calm Carly down, and Sonny leaves with her. Sonny and Carly return to the penthouse to celebrate Michael's win in the art contest. His collage entitled "My Family" won first prize, and he shares his happiness that his family is back together again. Carly frets about her decision to remain with Sonny, and takes advice from Bobbie, but in the end she can't bear to break Michael's heart. After everyone leaves, Carly confronts Sonny, wanting to know if he's happy or sad that Sam's baby wasn't his. Before he can answer, Jason calls with the news that Sam and her boat are gone.

Carly lets Sonny know that she's ready to gain her independence back, and she goes off to fight Faith for her club. After a meeting with Justus, Carly announces to Faith and Lorenzo that she is still the club owner, and she throws Faith out. Alcazar congratulates her on her coup, but asks why she cared that he was talking to Faith. Carly tells him that she cares for him, and always will, but he tells her that she doesn't love him the way he loves her. He leaves her standing there.

Sonny flips at Jason on the news of Sam's disappearance. Montage as Sam sits at the airport. Sonny demands that Sam be found, Jason explodes at him over what he'll do to Michael. Sonny apologizes, but yells back that he can't have his child adopted by strangers. Jason leaves as Sonny prepares to break the news to Carly that Sam is pregnant with his child. Carly returns from her club to a sour-faced Sonny, and wants to know what is wrong. As Sonny prepares to tell her the truth, Sam rushes child.

At his Penthouse, Sonny is about to tell Carly the truth about Samantha's baby, when Sam suddenly bursts in and stuns both Sonny and Carly with the announcement that Jason is the father of Sam's unborn child! Although Sam explains that she and Jason hit the sheets after Jason had fought with Courtney and Sonny was keeping his distance from Sam during the custody battle, Carly refuses to believe Sam's version of events. As Carly and Sam argue, Jason suddenly arrives. Before Jason can say anything, Sonny declares that Sam has already filled them on the details and then slugs Jason to make his point.

As Sonny and Jason argue, Sam tries to intervene, but Jason declares that he made his choice and is prepared to deal with the consequences. Then Jason hustles Sam back across the hall. However, after Sam and Jason leave, Carly points out to Sonny that if Sonny is really finished with Samantha, it looks strange that this latest news would be eating Sonny up inside. When Jason gets Sam home, he blasts her for going to Sonny and Carly with her fake confession without letting Jason know that Sam had decided to go along with the charade about her baby's paternity.

Carly asks Sonny if he wishes that he was the father of Sam's baby. When Sonny declares that the current development will be what is best for all of them, Carly reminds Sonny that Courtney will end up being very hurt if Jason is, indeed, the father of Sam's baby at the same time that Courtney believes she can no longer have children! Carly urges Sonny to give Jason a break and suggests that, since Sam is greedy, it might be possible for Jason to pay Sam to leave town after the baby is born and they can all raise the baby as one big, happy, extended family and without Samantha!

Sonny arrives to see Jason but, finding Jason gone, Sonny assures Samantha that her decision to go along with the charade will be what is best for the baby in the long run. Carly assures Michael that they don't have to worry about Sam taking Sonny away from them.

Sonny goes across the hall to see Sam. He tells her that he has to live up to the promise he made God to stay in his marriage and keep his family together. She tells him that she understands what he has to do even if it hurts her. He tells her that he wishes he didn't have to keep the fact that she is pregnant with his child a secret but doesn't see any other way. He tells her that he would like to keep seeing her in secret if he can. She tells him that he needs to accept that it won't work with her living with Jason right now. Sonny explains that he doesn't want to fall in love with Carly again and risk getting hurt again. Sam tells him that he will be able to make his marriage work and that she wouldn't have loved him so much if he wasn't such a good father.

Carly finds herself trying to explain that Sam is pregnant with Jason's child and how she will be living with Jason for now. Michael is confused about what is going on and asks her why Jason is having a baby with Sam when he loves Courtney. Carly tells him that adults do things that may seem weird to children and sometimes don't make sense. Michael doesn't like the news but stops asking her questions. Carly stops the urge to go over and confront Sam across the hall. Instead she returns to the penthouse.

Later, Sonny returns to the penthouse. He asks if the boys are asleep. Carly tells him that Morgan is asleep but Michael is faking sleep and really reading with a flashlight. Sonny notices that Carly seems upset. He asks her what is wrong. She tells him that she wishes that Sam will leave town after having the baby and let Jason raise it by himself but worries that Sam will stick around indefinitely instead. Sonny suggests that they take the boys away somewhere when summer vacation starts for Michael. 

Sonny suggested to Carly that they take a trip with the boys to reconnect as a family. Carly stated that the timing was wrong and that he was just running away from Sam. Mac arrived to warn Sonny that word on the street was that Faith had reinforcements moving into the territory; he offered the warning to try to get Sonny to deal with the situation peacefully and avoid another massacre like that of the Five Families. Carly used this as another reason not to go on a trip, but Sonny insisted he and the boys were going anyway. Finally, Carly agreed to prepare for the trip.  

Michael was thrilled when they arrived at the island, but as Carly entered the condo she couldn't help but remember that Sonny had also brought Sam there.
