Sonny & Carly #29  May 28th - August 4, 2004 - 8 hour original edit

Sonny received a call about business and explained that he had to leave their island paradise. Carly then hired workers to redo the room on the island to remove the stench that had been left there. Her first request was to have the mattress removed and burned. She was still very upset that he had brought another woman there since the island had been a special place for them in the past. She also said that the only hope for their family to stay together was (her belief) that at least Sam wasn't carrying his baby.

Sonny interrupts Sam and Jason and informs them that he does not want them to marry. Jason leaves to take care of business while Sam and Sonny argue over the arrangements. Sam reiterates her desire to leave and put the baby up for adoption, but Sonny will not consider it. He tells her that marriage, however, was not part of the deal for her and Jason, and she reminds him that he needs to trust them to do what's best for the baby. Jason warns Sonny that he must decide what he wants for his life, and to remember the promise he made to Michael. Sonny admits he knows now what Jason went through when he gave Michael up to Sonny, and he tells Jason that he can't do it for his own child's sake, no matter how selfish he is being. Jason again reminds him that he can't have both of his lives, and he must choose. They are interrupted by a call from the hospital, where Mike had been admitted after being beat up by his bookie. Both men rush out to see if he's okay.

Sonny was dressed for Courtney's fundraiser when he took dinner over to Sam in Jason's penthouse. They started to get close to one another but were interrupted when Jason returned early. Jason privately let Sonny know that the mission to break into Jax's place was aborted since Courtney had seen her ex-husband outside of Jax's. Sonny arrived at the fundraiser, Jax suggested that he leave, and this did not sit well with Courtney. Sonny stayed. When reporters interviewed Ric, he insisted his office had investigated the foundation and that it was indeed legitimate. Ric found time to antagonize Sonny, and then seeing Ric and Alexis together, Sonny warned her that he would have her disbarred if she ever revealed anything she learned while working as his attorney. He also said that she and Ric were perfect together, educated and full of themselves.

Sonny was annoyed when Sam and Jason arrived, even though he knew the reason for it. Sam announced to the Quartermaines that she and Jason were getting married, and Tracy immediately assumed she must be pregnant. Jason stated that they were indeed having a baby. Monica wanted to speak to Jason alone but was interrupted when Jax provoked Jason about sleeping with Sam while not completely away from Courtney yet. Jason flew off the handle and decked Jax.

After breaking up a fight between Alcazar and Sonny, Sam accompanies Sonny back to the penthouses, and asks him if Carly was not a factor, would he want to be with her and their baby. Sonny avoids answering her, telling her that Carly and the boys are a factor. He tries to continue to dodge her questions, but Sam makes it clear she wants more from him. In the end, she admits that she knows if he was with her, he'd eventually leave her for his family, so the current situation is for the best. Sonny nods in agreement. Sam returns to Jason's penthouse. Sonny later rushes in and tells Jason not to leave. Sam is devastated to hear Sonny announce that she and Jason must marry immediately. The next day, Sam tries to put aside the callousness of a marriage of convenience and tells both Sonny and Jason that she wants a church wedding. 

In church, Sonny prays about his decision to ask Jason to marry Samantha in order to protect the baby. As Sonny gets ready to leave, he realizes that Courtney is also there. Courtney admits that Jason's wedding will be difficult for both of them. Carly meets with Edward and agrees to try to influence Jason to spend more time with the Quartermaine Family in exchange for Edward paying Sam to leave her baby with Jason and leave town as soon as the baby is born. Carly meets with Courtney in Courtney's office and tries to convince Courtney to prevent Jason's marriage to Sam. But Courtney once again refuses to become involved.

Sonny arrives at Jason's Penthouse and is surprised to find that Sam is there alone. When Sam reminds Sonny that it is bad luck for the groom to see the bride before the ceremony, Sonny asks to see her gown and Sam comes down the stairs and admits that, while Sonny is not the groom, he is the man she loves. Sonny admits to being impressed by Sam's presentation. Sonny and Samantha bond over their mutual pain, because they are not able to be open about their relationship. Sam admits that, even though she is marrying Jason, her heart belongs with Sonny and they kiss. 

Sonny arrives at the church, Jason and Sonny both worry that Carly will show up with some kind of fireworks planned for the wedding. When Sonny apologizes to Jason for putting Jason in this position, Jason explains that he is keeping a promise he made years ago to Michael. When Carly arrives, she reminds Jason that, when Jason married Courtney, it was because Jason actually loved Courtney! As Jason and Sam begin reciting their vows, they are both surprised when Edward stands up just as the minister asks if any one can show just cause why Jason and Sam should not marry. But Justus convinces Edward to be quiet. However, Carly raises an objection, because Courtney is Jason's real wife! Carly explains to the minister that Jason's divorce hasn't become final and asks Edward to confirm that something happened to the paperwork. Sonny assures everyone that the paperwork has been straightened out and Justus confirms Sonny's report.

However, Carly continues to object, even though Jason orders Carly to stay out of it. An exasperated Jason finally takes Carly outside to convince her to stop meddling in his life, but Carly refuses to listen to Jason. As Jason and Carly argue, their voices carry over into the church, where Emily tries to reassure Sam. As Carly and Jason's argument grows louder, Jax asks Sonny if it bothers Sonny that Carly remains so involved in Jason's marriage plans. Sonny reminds Jax that he was not invited and orders Jax to leave. As Carly pleads with Jason to change his mind, Jason argues that, at this moment in his life, he needs Sam and her baby in his life! Jason offers to bet Carly $20 that it will all work out in the end, but Carly refuses to take the bet. 

Jason and Samantha get their wedding ceremony back on track, but as Sam is about to exchange wedding vows with Jason but abruptly stops and tells Jason and the priest that she can't go through with the wedding because she doesn't really love Jason and doesn't feel right about the whole thing. She takes off before anyone can stop her. Jason leaves and goes home. Sonny blames Carly for ruining the wedding with her theatrics. Carly refuses to take blame for the wedding fiasco and doesn't regret what she did. She tells Sonny that she would do anything to prevent Jason from making the biggest mistake of his life. Sonny reminds her that Sam is carrying Jason's baby and this was Jason's decision not hers. Carly insists that Jason would be better off raising the baby without Sam being in the picture. She also tells Sonny its too bad he doesn't like what she did. 

Sonny shows up at Jason's to see Sam. Jason tells him she left town. Sonny asks him why he didn't go after her and stop her from leaving. Jason tells him that there is nothing he can do since it was her decision to leave. He tells him what Sam told him about not being able to handle Carly and him living across the hall. Sonny goes off to find Sam. Carly shows up at Jason's. She apologizes for how she behaved at the church but doesn't regret that Sam didn't marry him. Jason tells her that Sam left town and doesn't plan to return. Carly feels bad that she left since she knows he wanted the baby. Jason tells her that Sonny took off to find her so she won't be gone for long. Carly is stunned and hurt by that news. 

Sonny goes back to the orphanage/convent where he found Sam before trying to give their baby up for adoption. He talks to one of the nuns and asks for the nun he spoke with before. She tells him she will go find her and tell her he wants to talk to her about Sam McCall. Sonny looks at the statue of the Virgin Mary and prays to her for guidance on how to handle his complicated life. Suddenly an unidentified man approaches where Sonny is and shoots at him several times. Sonny falls down on the ground and appears unconscious. The man walked up to Sonny's motionless body and stated, "Rest in peace, Mr. Corinthos." Later, the man, claiming to be Jason, asked for information from a nun about Sonny. She replied he had been sent to the morgue. Satisfied, the man left; the nun entered a room inside the convent and prayed over a bandaged Sonny. 

Since Jason did not marry Sam, Carly tried to get him to try again with Courtney. Jason told her to butt out of his life. Instead, Carly got one of Sonny and Jason's men to track Courtney and Jax to Italy.  Carly arrived in Italy and tried secretly to separate Jax and Courtney as they have dinner, but, when that didn't work, she threw a pitcher of cold water over Jax's head!  Carly tells Courtney that Sam called off the wedding to Jason and urges her to head back to Port Charles to win back her ex. Courtney, however, insists she and Jason can't be together, causing Carly to go to extreme measures to get herself arrested so Jason will rush to her rescue. She further twists things so Jason sees Jax and Courtney enjoying a cozy afternoon in an Italian cafe.  In a weird way, Carly's scheme to get Jason and Courtney together works when they end up in the same jail cell. 

Back in Port Charles, Jax arrives at Courtney's apartment, but is disappointed when he discovers only Carly in residence. Carly smugly reports that Courtney has gone to meet Jason. Carly then gloats to Jax that Jason and Courtney will surely reconcile shortly, but Jax scoffs at the very idea, reminding Carly that Jason is about to become a father and appears to be completely involved with Samantha now. Jax questions the reason why the very possessive Sonny continues to overlook Carly's fixation with Jason. Jax then accuses Carly of using Courtney to keep Jason at Carly's beck and call. Carly counters that Jax is only using Courtney to get under Sonny and Jason's skin and Jax, of course, denies Carly's charges. 

Carly arrives at the Cellar and, when Carly spots Faith, Carly orders Faith to leave. When Faith refuses to go, Ric suggests that Alexis should get her client under control.  Alexis reminds Ric that technically, Faith is no longer her client. When Faith warns Carly that "Big Daddy's money and power" will not be at Carly's disposal much longer, Carly suddenly demands to know what Faith has done to Sonny. Faith angrily pushes Carly twice when Carly tells her to leave her club immediately!  Faith tells her she is sick of Carly's bullying and that she refuses to do what she wants her to do and calls Carly "trash" to her face. Carly backhands her across the face hard enough to knock Faith backwards against the bar. Faith hits her head on the side of the bar and falls down unconscious. Ric and Alexis witness the fight.

Ric approaches the bar and checks Faith's pulse. He informs Carly and Alexis that someone better call 911 since Faith isn't breathing. Faith comes to before the ambulance arrives. Ric tells Faith that the ambulance will be there soon to take her to General Hospital and he will handle everything. Ric approaches Carly and tells her he can have charges brought against her for aggravated assault. Alexis interrupts him and accuses him of trying to railroad Carly for personal reasons. She tells Ric that he doesn't have a case against Carly since Faith provoked her by attacking her first. Carly tells Ric that she has a roomful of witnesses that will be ready to testify that Faith attacked her first and she was only defending herself. Ric tells Alexis that he is going to go to GH and wait for Faith to recover and ask her if she wants to charge Carly for assault. Alexis tells him that he is more than likely going to coerce Faith into charging Carly.

Carly asks Alexis why she is defending her. Alexis tells her that she is just making sure that her rights are being protected and that she doesn't want Ric to think he can use his office to prosecute innocent people because of a personal grudge. Carly allows her to act as her lawyer. They all go to the hospital and go to Faith's room. Faith wonders why they are all there looking at her. Ric asks her if she would like to press assault charges against Carly. Alexis warns Ric that he is using his influence to persuade Faith to press charges when she provoked the fight against Carly. Faith looks right at Carly and tells Ric that she would love to press charges against Carly. Ric is pleased with the news until he finds out that Faith has no intention of pressing charges against Carly. She tells Ric that she and Carly had a fight that she started and admits to attacking Carly first and that her head injury was nothing more than an accident. Ric isn't pleased and stalks off. Carly asks Faith later what she wants in return for not pressing charges against her. Faith tells her nothing right now but someday she will think of something she wants from Carly. 

Sonny's condition seems to be getting worse and one of the nuns tells the Mother Superior that she better get a priest soon to give last rites. Sonny gets a fever and calls for Carly. Mother Superior asks him who Carly is. Sonny tells her that Carly is his wife and that he needs to talk to her. Mother Superior tells him that he made a vow to God and that God has let him live this long and that it is his turn to get better on his own. Mother Superior calls Carly on her cell-phone. Carly answers on her way out of the hospital. Mother Superior tells her that Sonny has been shot and could be dying soon. Carly finds out where he is and rushes to see him. When she gets to the convent in Costa Rica, she finds Sonny lying there semi-unconscious. Carly goes over and tries to get him to wake up. Sonny just lies there but is moving a little bit. Carly tells him he can't die on her now and tells him to fight for his life. Sonny suddenly becomes unconscious again. 

Carly traveled to the convent in Costa Rica, where Sonny was near death from his gunshot wound. She yelled for him to come back, and he was able to squeeze her hand. As he lay unconscious, she told him that she loved him and that she didn't care about what had happened before or the damage that had been done. He finally came out of it and tried to convince Carly that they would be safer back in Port Charles. Carly received a call from Jason on her cell phone, and she let him know what had happened to Sonny. Sonny also talked to Jason and warned that the shooter knew what he was doing. He learned from Jason that Sam had been found. Later, as Sonny continued trying to convince Carly that getting out of the convent was a good idea, he looked away for a moment, and, when he looked back, Carly was no longer standing there. 

Sonny begins to recover from his bullet wounds, but refuses to listen to Carly and the nuns. He insists that he and Carly leave the convent before someone else is hurt. Carly begs him to reconsider, but he won't hear of it. They board the plane, where his condition worsens. Carly is shocked to realize that Sonny has begun to bleed again. Sam overhears Jason talking to a wounded Sonny on the phone and realizes who attacked Sonny (Jason was also attacked). Jason and Sam are about to leave GH, when Carly and a collapsed Sonny arrive. He is fighting for his life. Jason fills Sonny in on Sam's suspicions that her ex-boyfriend, Nico, was behind Sonny's shooting.

Ric, who wants to know who is behind the shooting, interrupts a recuperating Sonny in his hospital room. Sonny refuses to divulge any information, and Ric continues to badger him. Meanwhile, Carly manages to stop a disguised Nico from entering Sonny's hospital room. Courtney comes upon Carly in the hallway, and later drives Ric out of Sonny's hospital room. As she leaves, she questions Jason on his safety, but he tells her that she needs to stay away and keep herself safe. Jason checks on Sonny when a nurse runs in after Carly tells them that Sonny is in pain. Unable to get information from Sonny, Carly eavesdrops on his conversation with Jason, and discovers who is behind his shooting. She runs back to the penthouse and confronts Sam for her part in the mess. Carly warns Sam that she's caused enough trouble, and that she needs to leave town or else. 

Carly stops at the hospital to check on Sonny. In the Penthouse lobby, Nico grabs Sam and drags her onto the waiting elevator. As Sam tries to convince Nico to let her go, Nico reveals his plan to kill both Sonny and Jason! At the Hospital, Sonny thanks Carly for saving his life after he was shot. Carly tells Sonny that she believes it is time for both of them to let go of their resentment and petty jealousies. Sonny agrees that he would like for the two of them to find a way to trust each other again. Sonny and Carly's conversation is interrupted by Michael's arrival, who demands to speak to Sonny alone. After Carly leaves, Michael appeals to Sonny to quit taking chances with his life. Sonny assures Michael that he and Carly plan to take care of Michael and Morgan and urges Michael to let go of his worry. Carly meets with Bobbie and assures her skeptical mother that her life with Sonny is getting back on the right track. After Carly returns to Sonny's room and informs Michael that it is time to go home, Michael insists that Carly kiss Sonny good night before they leave. Later, as Michael goes to bed in his room at Sonny's Penthouse, Michael asks Carly why she and Sonny no longer kiss each other the way they used to. Carly explains that she and Sonny are working on building a stronger foundation for their relationship and rebuilding takes time. 

Emily arrives to visit Sonny and lets slip that someone tried to kidnap Sam. When Emily realizes that Sonny did not know about the attempt to abduct Sam, Emily rushes to assures Sonny that Sam and the baby are okay. Later, Sonny leaves his hospital bed and goes looking for Sam. When Sonny finds Sam, Jason and Sam are involved in a serious conversation about the future of "their" baby and Sonny notices that Sam and Jason are holding hands!  Sam sneaks into Sonny's hospital room to talk to him. She apologizes to him for why he got shot since she got involved with Nico when she was young and he shot Sonny and went after Jason because of his obsession with her. Sonny tells her she isn't to blame for what happened to him or Jason. She thanks him for treating her like a human being and letting her be herself when no one else did. 

Carly shows up at Jason's place to ask him to go away with Sam and take her out of the country so that Nico will follow them and keep away from Sonny. Jason tells her he can't leave town with Sam right now and asks her if she would want Sam and the baby to put themselves in harm's way just because she wants Nico away from Sonny. Carly tells him that she wants to keep Sonny and her family safe and can't do that right now because the family is vulnerable right now and she needs him to protect them. Jason tells her that he thinks it is best right now to handle Nico while is right here in Port Charles and that if he can't do that he will consider leaving the country with Sam for a while. Jason shows up at the hospital and finds Sam talking to Sonny. Sonny questions Jason's judgment when he asks him why he shot at Nico when the man had a gun on Sam and was holding her. Jason tells him he shot Nico only because he had a clear shot and that Sonny knows he wouldn't put Sam in any danger otherwise. Sonny tells them he is going to be released from the hospital later today. Jason goes back to the penthouse with Sam. On the docks, Nico meets with his employer, Faith. She tells him he has already struck out twice by not being able to kill Jason or Sonny at GH. Nico tells her he wants Sam back for himself. She reminds him that he is working for her and she has paid him to do a job. She tells him they are going on to plan b now. She tells him he is going to pretend to take her out and then she wants him to kill Alcazar afterwards so the cops and the DA will think Sonny was behind the hits. 

Faith goes to the hospital and insists on seeing Sonny. Max can't stop her from going in. Michael sneaks back into Sonny's room and hides in the corner. Sonny just comes out of the bathroom after dressing in his clothes when Faith barges in. Michael overhears her accusing Sonny of hiring someone to try and kill her in broad daylight. Sonny tells her he had nothing to do with it. Faith tells Sonny that it must be Alcazar that ordered the hit and warns him to watch out before Alcazar kills him this time and takes Carly away for good. Carly notices Michael isn't in the hallway when she is talking to Bobbie about how she feels confident she and Sonny can make their marriage work this time.

Carly runs into Sonny's room to find Faith there. She accuses Faith of taking Michael. Michael comes out of the corner and tells them he was there hiding the whole time. Faith leaves. Carly tells Michael not to run off like that again and to hide and listen in on Sonny's conversations. Michael promises not to do that again. Sonny is released from GH; Carly wheels Sonny out after he signs the discharge papers. As they are heading to the elevator, Alcazar steps off of one and heads toward them. Michael runs ahead of them when he sees Alcazar. He warns Alcazar to stay away from his family or he will be killed instead. Later on the docks, Nico attempts to shoot Alcazar but Connor sees the gun and pushes Lorenzo out of the way (Faith has paid Nico to fake an attempt on her life, and then to make an attempt on Lorenzo's life to make it look like Sonny is after them both). 

Sonny and Carly argue about Alcazar's possible involvement in the shooting, so she left without her husband. Jason arrived with an update about Sam and Nico. Sonny mentioned that there might be more to Sam than they realized. The police then escorted Sonny and Jason to the station, for questioning about the attempted shooting of Alcazar. Then, the two of them saw Max being brought in as well, leading them to wonder who was watching Sam. Sam heard somebody outside the door of Jason's, and assumed it was Max. She yelled out to him but received no response, prompting her to venture into the corridor.  Nico grabs Sam outside of Jason's door, and holds a gun to her head. Before he can make off with her, Carly arrives via the elevator and witnesses the situation. No longer willing to deal with Sam and her myriad problems, Carly drop kicks Nico and beats the crap out of him. She wrestles his gun away, and grabs her purse and Sam, and runs into her apartment. Once inside, Carly calls 911 and tells them to get there immediately. 

Meanwhile, Ric refuses to let Sonny and Jason go, until they see Max get carried into the station. Realizing that no one is guarding the penthouses, Sonny makes a move to leave, but is stopped by Ric. Word of Carly's 911 call flutters through the station, and Ric finally lets Sonny and Jason run home. He follows with police officers, and they all arrive to hear Sam say that Carly saved her life. Ric insinuates that the entire showdown was set up to keep him from Sonny, but Carly will have none of it and let's him have it. She taunts him on his sad life, and finally kicks him out of her apartment. Sam then thanks Carly for saving her life. Carly tells her she's welcome, and immediately demands that Jason follow through on his promise and take Sam out of town. With Sonny's okay, Jason takes a reluctant Sam to the island for safekeeping away. 

At the penthouse, as Carly gets ready to head to The Cellar, Sonny asks Carly to stay home, arguing that, since someone is gunning for Samantha, there is a good chance that Carly would be in danger as well. Jason calls Sonny from the island and reports that Nico is dead, that Sam and the baby are fine, and that Jason and Sam are en route back to town.  As Sonny and Carly grow closer, Jason and Sam suddenly return to Sonny's Penthouse. Jason shows Sonny a note that Nico dropped at Molly's bar that confirms that someone was paying Nico to go after Jason and Sam. Sonny makes plans to have the note analyzed. Sam is relieved when Jason stays mum after Sonny asks Jason if Nico dropped any more hints before he died. Later, Jason secretly explains to Sonny that Jason is convinced that Sam is still covering something up. As Jason confides that Sam is still afraid of something, Carly slips unnoticed into the room and listens in as Sonny and Jason discuss Sam. Sonny orders Jason to keep digging into Sam's past. Carly meets later with Felicia and asks Felicia to dig into Sam's past. A mysterious stranger alters the picture of "Sandra McIntire" by giving her long, dark hair and exclaims: "Gotcha!"

Lois shows up at Sonny's place unannounced. Sonny is happy to see her but Carly isn't and makes it known she doesn't appreciate the intrusion. Lois gives as good as she gets and turns her attention over to Sonny. She tells him that he still has some association with L&B that he may or may not have been aware of and that she needs him to go to the courthouse with her to sign some papers to keep him from being associated with her label. Carly resents Lois' intrusion but isn't able to get rid of her right off when Courtney and Michael come in. Sonny introduces Michael to Lois. Carly interrupts their conversation and sends Michael to find some book he ordered in his room. Lois leaves with Sonny; he agrees to go to the courthouse with her. Courtney defends Lois to Carly. Carly tells her that she has more of a problem with Sam right now and tells Courtney that she is going to find out what Sam is hiding and get her away from Jason once and for all so that Courtney can get Jason back. Courtney loses her cool at Carly's interference. She tells Carly to leave Sam alone and tells her that Jason isn't part of her life anymore and that she wants it that way. Carly leaves the penthouse. 

At the courthouse, Sonny and Lois sit and talk in the hallway. Lois overhears Ric and Alexis arguing in the hallway. She is shocked when she hears Ric remind Alexis that she once slept with Sonny. Lois looks at Sonny and asks him if that is true. Alexis and Ric realize they aren't alone. Lois also meets Ric and finds out he is Sonny's estranged half-brother. Alexis downplays the importance of her one-night stand with Sonny. Alexis tries to hide her alarm also when Lois mentions that Alexis' daughter Kristina is her daughter Brook Lyn's half-sister since Ned is the father of both. 

Sam brings the picture of the ultrasound to Sonny to show him and to tell him they are having a girl. Sonny is overwhelmed by the news but gets serious and asks her to trust him and tell him what and from whom is she hiding from. After learning from Felicia that Sam's history from age 7 through 17 had been erased, Carly decided she would go to Bailey's Beach, SC, the location where Sam reappeared at 17. Felicia posed the question whether Jason might actually be covering for Sonny about being the father of the baby. Carly admitted it could be true but that she had to believe Jason; he had never lied to her.

Carly then headed to Jason's penthouse and found Sonny and Sam together. Sonny had been trying to get some information from Sam about her past. Sam tried to ease the tension with Carly by saying that she had invited both of them over, while Jason was still there, to announce that the baby was going to be a girl. Carly proclaimed she was there to call a truce with Sam. Sonny was suspicious but finally left the two of them together. Sam was cautious as well, especially as Carly started confessing some her own past sins. This was in an attempt to get Sam to open up, but, just as Sam hadn't wanted to tell Sonny much about her mother and father, she was tight-lipped with Carly as well. A hesitant Jason agrees to let Carly help him uncover Sam's big secret in Bailey's Beach. Their trek leads them to an encounter with a man who spills the goods on Sam's past. 

Alexis and Kristina are at GH, Alexis is distracted by Ric, allowing Kristina to wander around the corner of the corridor where Sonny was looking through the window of the nursery. Sonny helped her to look at the babies, and Alexis was taken aback when she turned the corner and saw Kristina with her biological father. Sonny realizes that either Faith or Alcazar hired Nico to kill him. Knowing that Sonny means business, Faith prepares to plead for spare her life. Once she arrives, however, she eavesdrops on a conversation in which she learns that he, not Jason, is the father of Sam's baby. Alcazar hands over proof to Sonny that Faith is the one that hired Nico. With that in mind, Sonny orders Faith to be executed. But when the mobster confronts her, she warns him that if anything happens to her, she'll see to it that Carly learns the truth that he's the father of Sam's baby. Faith warns Sonny that Carly will get a letter from Faith detailing the paternity of Samantha's baby if Sonny murders Faith. Faith proposes a truce, promising to stay out of Sonny's way if he lets Faith go. Sonny lets Faith go, but refuses to agree to a truce. 

Jason and Carly learn that Sam is running away from the law. Assuming that Carly will tell Sonny everything on her own, Jason makes her promise that she won't say anything to him until he has a chance to talk with Sam. Carly agrees, but sets the wheels in motion for Sam's capture by alerting the Bailey's Beach police of her whereabouts. Sonny visits Jason and confides that, although Alcazar brought Sonny proof that Faith hired Nico, Faith has also written a letter to Carly, spilling the secrets about Sam's baby, which will be delivered to Carly if anything happens to Faith. Jason explains that he discovered that Sam is on the run because the police believe that Sam burned down her mother's home and that Sam's estranged mother died in the fire.

Later, Sam tries to explain the situation to Sonny and Sonny promises to make all of Sam's troubles go away. Across the hall, Carly is disappointed when Jason confides that he believes Sam's version of events and reminds Carly of all the damage that Carly has done in the past, just by accident! Jason reminds Carly of the many times Jason has helped Carly and declares his intention to help Sam as well. Carly warns Jason that Sam's lies are endangering everyone whom Jason loves. Sonny shares with Sam some of his painful memories of life with his stepfather. Sonny urges Sam to tell him everything else connected with that incident that she can remember, so Sonny and Jason can get her out of her jam.

Carly argues that Jason could be endangering Michael and Morgan by allowing Sam to live so close to them. Jason angrily declares that Carly is not even aware of half the sacrifices Jason has made for Carly, and then slams out of the apartment. When Jason meets Sonny in the hall, Jason reports that he could not get through to Carly! When Sonny arrives home, Carly begs Sonny to send Sam away that very evening. Sonny accuses Carly of being too possessive of Jason and insists that Sam poses no threat to Michael and Morgan. Sonny argues that they have a responsibility, as Jason's friends, to protect Sam and her baby. But Carly retorts that they will all be safer if Sonny sends Sam to a safe house in the mountains, surrounded by great doctors, until Sam's baby is born.

Then, Carly proposes that, once Sam's baby has been born, Sonny should pay Sam off and make Sam leave town for good. As Sonny continues to insist that there is no need to send Sam away, Carly warns Sonny that Sam could flip out at any moment and start another fire that would endanger Michael and Morgan. As Sonny and Carly argue, they hear the police demanding entrance to Jason's Penthouse and rush outside to investigate. As Sonny and Carly arrive in the hallway, the police break in Jason's door, but discover that the penthouse is empty! Sonny is stunned when the police declare that they have a warrant for the arrest of Sandra McIntire. Sonny notices the disappointed look on Carly's face. 

Sonny left Ric and Carly alone together, and Ric tried to work Carly for information since he believed she was the one who had ratted Sam out to the Bailey's Beach Police. Sonny met with Jason and said that Sam needed to get out of the country; there was no way his baby was going to be born in jail. When Sonny and Carly spoke again, Carly tried to convince him to let Sam go to jail, have the baby and then have the baby given to Jason. Later, Alcazar was happy to run into Carly. Carly was surprised to learn that he had given information to Sonny about Faith hiring the shooter. She was even more surprised when she found Sonny and Faith on the docks together! Jason warns Sonny that Sam is hiding something from them and is determined to find out what that is. Carly wonders what's cooking when she spots Sonny and Faith in what looks like a heavy conversation. Lorenzo offers to help Carly find out what Faith is using as leverage against Sonny. Sam threatens to take Jason and "their" baby out of the country forever when Carly confronts her. Hoping to find out Sam's secret, a scheming Sonny convinces Ric he wants Sam to pay for murdering her mother.

Lila's Memorial epsiode scenes - After Lila's death, Carly comforted

Jason and reflected on how good Lila had been to her.  Outside the church, Sonny ran into Robin Scorpio; she had just flown into town for the service. She mentioned that Brenda had wanted to come but could not and that Brenda was happy and hoped that Sonny was, too, believing that he was with the woman of his destiny, Carly. Sonny and Robin also remembered Stone, prompting Sonny to apologize for not taking care of her as he had promised Stone he would. Robin said that she hadn't let him, apologized for the distance and let him know that she loved him.

Monica spoke at the service, followed by Alan, who remarked how Lila liked everybody. Tracy spoke about how people wondered how she could possibly be the daughter of Lila Quartermaine, but, given everything, how she was still loved by her mother and how that sustained her. She also said that Lila never stopped learning and that she would try to honor that by learning from her mother. Ned remembered that his grandmother understood his desire to perform and that she was a performer herself, always coming across as smiling, serene and wise-what they expected her to be. Jason rose to speak but could not. Emily took his place and said that she had never seen Lila able to walk and dance but that her spirit was always free. She lamented not telling her adoptive grandmother that she loved her, one more time.

Brook Lynn sang in honor of her great-grandmother, and Edward thanked everyone for attending. He said that he believed there was a heaven and that Lila was there now. There were fond memories of Lila with Edward and her family. Carly and Courtney return to the penthouse after Lila's funeral, and discuss Robyn's appearance. Courtney lets it be known that she was not bothered since her and Jason are no longer together, but that Carly does still have a future with Sonny and she should work things out. Carly expresses her fear and distrust, and Courtney tells her that they are worth the effort. 

Sonny and Jason argue over the situation with Sam's pregnancy and telling Carly the truth. Sonny admits that he loves his wife and wants a real marriage, but can't with the lie hanging over him. Jason tells him that the lie is to save Carly and Michael, and he demands that Sonny think of them first. Sonny doesn't want to have his child grow up not knowing him, and Jason makes him choose between his family and Sam and the baby. Sonny clearly wants to be with those that he loves-his family-so he chooses to stay quiet. He returns to the penthouse, however, and he and Carly begin to reminisce and talk, and he realizes he has to come clean with her and hope that she'll understand. He rushes out to tell Sam that he's no longer going to lie about the baby, but will finally tell Carly the truth. 

Sam returns to the safe house where Sonny is waiting to speak to her. Sonny shocks Sam when he announces that he is no longer willing to lie to Carly about being the father of Sam's baby. Sam assumes he wants to be with her, and begins to offer suggestions to ease them through his separation from Carly. Sonny then devastates Sam when he makes it clear that she has it wrong and that he wants to be with his wife because he loves her. A tearful Sam tries to understand as Sonny tells him that he's sorry she got hurt. He promises to always take care of her and the baby, and reminds her that he never promised her more than companionship. He leaves to return to his wife, and Sam tries to grapple with the fact that she won't be part of Sonny's happy family. 

Sonny returns to the penthouse to find Faith leaving. Carly demands to know what Faith is up to, but Sonny tells her to ignore Faith. He then drops the news that he is the real father of Sam's baby, not Jason. A stunned Carly tries to take in the truth, and is destroyed by the realization that Sonny and Jason have lied to her. She is able to understand Jason's motives, but can't get past the fact that Sonny has fathered a child with another woman. Sonny tells her that he loves her and wants to be with her, and begs her to understand, but Carly just sobs and is unable to handle the situation. She tells Sonny that she needs time to herself to think, and she gets up and walks out on him. 

At Sonny's Penthouse, Max reports on Carly's whereabouts. After Max leaves, Sonny calls Samantha but hangs up when he hears Sam answer. As Sonny heads out the door, he is met by Ric, demanding to know where Jason is hiding out with Sam! When Sonny claims he knows nothing, Ric reminds Sonny that Jason never makes a move without Sonny's orders and that Ric suspects Sonny and Jason of aiding and abetting a fugitive.

When Sonny reminds Ric of Ric's past transgressions where Carly is concerned, Michael suddenly bursts into the room and demands to know where his mother is accusing Ric of, once again, being responsible for his mother's disappearance! Ric is suddenly suspicious when he discovers that Carly is missing again. When Ric suddenly offers to file a missing persons report on Carly, Sonny insists that he will be able to handle everything himself and orders Max to escort Ric out of the building. After Ric leaves, Sonny tries to explain to Michael that Sonny can no longer allow Michael to interrupt Sonny when Sonny is talking to someone. Then Sonny tries to explain that Carly left because she needed time to think alone! Sonny assures Michael that Carly will be back and they will all be a family again soon. 

When Courtney returns home from jogging, she is surprised to find Carly waiting for her. Carly immediately informs Courtney that Jason is not really the father of Samantha's baby, Sonny is! Carly explains that Jason switched the DNA samples to protect Sam but that Sonny now claims he wants to reconcile because he still loves Carly. Carly urges Courtney to go to Jason now and admit that she wants to reconcile with Jason. However, Courtney insists that this latest information will not change a thing, because Courtney's fundamental differences with Jason still remain and that Courtney knows that Jason would never turn his back on Sam and Sam's baby! Carly admits that she will have to do some serious thinking before reconciling with Sonny. 

Sonny arrives at Courtney's door (Courtney has just confided to Jax that Jason is not really the father of Sam's baby). Jax loses no time in blasting Sonny for lying to everyone, and getting away with it! Sonny ignores Jax and asks Courtney to tell him where he would be able to find Carly. As Jax and Sonny begin to argue about Samantha's baby, Courtney intervenes and orders them to end their argument. Courtney then advises Sonny to be nice to Carly if and when Carly returns home! After Sonny leaves, Jax admits that he is unhappy that Courtney no longer has a reason to prevent her from reuniting with Jason. Courtney points out that she left Jason because Courtney always came in second to Jason's loyalty to Sonny. Then Courtney points out to a surprised Jax that she also comes in second to Jax's hatred for Sonny as well. 

As Ric stops in the park to make a cell phone call to his office, he spots Carly and tries to convince Carly to get in touch with her family, and spills the news that Jason has disappeared, along with Sam. As Ric fishes for a tidbit of information, Alexis passes through the park and overhears Ric quizzing Carly. After Carly leaves, Ric calls his office to order more surveillance of the Corinthos family, so they can catch Sonny aiding and abetting Sam. 

At the safe house, Sam is surprised when Carly suddenly arrives and declares that Carly is going to be calling the shots from now on, because Carly now knows the truth! Although Sam insists that she is happy that Carly now knows the truth, Carly suggests that Sam find a safe place to have her baby, then leave town after handing the baby over to Sonny and Carly. When Sam refuses, Carly reminds Sam that if Sam tries to stick around Port Charles, Sam will probably end up in prison. Sam assures Carly that Sam is confident that she is not going to prison and there is no way that Sam would ever turn her child over to Carly. Sam warns that if Carly fights Sam about the baby, Carly will be the one who loses. Carly declares that Sam has already lost and walks out.

Later, Sonny arrives home and finds Faith, demanding to see Sonny. As Faith reminds Sonny that she knows the truth about Sam's baby, Carly suddenly arrives and informs Faith that Carly suspected that Faith was holding something over Sonny's head, since Faith is still around after ordering another hit on Sonny! Faith is shocked when she realizes that Carly now knows the truth. After Faith beats a hasty retreat, Carly admits that she is still having a problem dealing with Sonny's betrayal. Sonny pledges that, now that there are no more secrets between them, it will possible for them both to get a completely fresh start. Sonny continues trying to convince Carly that he loves only Carly and does not want to lose her. 

Sonny tells Carly that he is happy she returned home and wants them to make their marriage work this time and admits he still loves her and that he didn't want there to be anymore lies between them so they could start their marriage out fresh. Carly cries and hugs him without saying anything. Max knocks on the door and interrupts their embrace and tells Sonny he has a call on his cell-phone from Ric. He takes the call reluctantly. Ric tells him he found Sam and has arrested her and has plans to extradite her back to North Carolina later that day and advises him to come see her. Sonny tells her he has to go and help Sam and will be home later. Carly isn't too pleased by this news.

Carly goes to pay Alexis a visit. Alexis asks her what she wants. Carly informs her that she is going to tell Sonny that Kristina is his daughter because Sonny just told her that Sam is carrying his child and she needs to come clean with him about what she knows if they have a chance to start over without any more lies. Alexis panics when she sees how determined Carly is to tell Sonny about Kristina. Alexis tells her that she can't do that to Kristina and that Sonny will file for custody of Kristina and the press will hear about it and Kristina will be plastered all over the papers. Carly tries to reassure her that Sonny will protect Kristina. Alexis doesn't care and tells Carly she doesn't want her daughter raised around thugs who could use her daughter to retaliate against Sonny. She pleads with Carly to protect Kristina and not tell Sonny and reminds her that she is a mother also and should protect her children and put them before everyone else. Carly doesn't give her an answer and leaves.

Carly heads over to see Courtney. She tells her that Sonny can be very convincing when he tells her he loves her and wants to start over again but then as soon as Sam needs help he is off helping her. Carly tells Courtney that Sam will always be around needing Sonny's help and she doesn't know if she can live with that and suggests leaving town with the boys and starting over somewhere else. Courtney asks her if she would really run off with the boys. Courtney tells her she can't make choices for her and advises her to try giving her marriage another chance since she still loves Sonny and he still loves her.

Sonny arrives at the police station and asks Ric what he is up to. Ric tells him that Sam is going to be extradited back to North Carolina. Sonny gets Justus over there to help Sam and slow down the extradition. Sonny asks her if she tried to run away again and got caught. Sam tells him she wouldn't leave town and keep him from his own baby. Justus tells Sam that because she was absent for the rest of her trial he may have a case for an appeal but he needs to know the truth about her case first before making that decision. He asks her if she is covering for someone else. She lies and tells him no, she set the fire. Justus tells her he can't help her and that he will refer her to another criminal attorney and that he won't handle her case because he has been down that road before and lost dearly. Justus tells Sonny he can't defend her and that he needs to get someone who is above reproach and who hates him since his association with him will taint her case. He recommends Alexis to him.

Sonny shows up later at Alexis' apartment. Alexis answers the door with Kristina in her arms. Alexis panics a little when she sees Sonny. She asks him what he came over for. He tells her this concerns the mother of his child. Alexis initially panicked, thinking Carly had told the truth about Kristina's parentage, and was relieved that Sonny had come to hire her to represent Sam. She turned him down at first. Sonny admitted he was trying to take care of Sam and the baby since Sam hadn't lied to him or tried to keep him from his baby. Sonny asked Alexis if she was afraid to go up against Ric. Sonny let Sam know about her new attorney. Alexis filed a motion to keep Sam from being immediately sent to Bailey's Beach. Ric told Sonny to thank Carly for her help in apprehending Sam.

Courtney advised Carly not to throw away her chance with Sonny. Carly speculated that Ric had followed her to the safe house, leading him to Sam's whereabouts. Sonny found Carly at the penthouse, and she admitted to calling the police in Bailey's Beach, some time back about Sam being in Port Charles. She said that Sam being found at the safe house may have been her fault, but she hadn't let it happen on purpose. He believed her, and they professed their love to one another, sealed with a passionate kiss. Sonny and Carly heat up their relationship, and their romance leads them to the bedroom. The two agree to not hurt each other anymore, and they make love. Afterward, they bask in their newfound closeness, but a call interrupts them. Sonny is notified of Sam's extradition hearing, but he chooses to instead stay in bed with his wife. He pledges his devotion and commitment to Carly, and the couple continues to mend their relationship.

Sam collapses at the police station and is rushed to the hospital. Ric interrupts Carly and Sonny, to let Sonny know that the baby might be in danger. They rush to the hospital where Sam privately admits to them that she's faking it to avoid extradition. Sonny tells her it isn't the best idea, but promises that he'll help her. Carly chases away an overzealous police officer, and her help surprises Sam. Sam is clearly disappointed that Sonny will only promise to be there for their child, and nothing more, but she thanks Carly for her support. Carly informs Sam that she'll be good to Sonny's daughter when she's visiting them, and Sam admits to Carly that she won: Carly has the perfect life, family and most importantly, she has Sonny.

Carly is slow to accept that Ric wants to help anyone, let alone Sonny's mistress and bastard child.  Sonny gets off the elevator and sees Ric harassing Courtney about Jax's shooting. He tells Ric to leave Courtney alone. Ric tells Courtney that if she doesn't tell him who shot Jax, he will make sure Sam is extradited back to North Carolina as soon as possible. Sonny tells Ric that he can't make decisions for Courtney. Courtney refuses to tell Ric anything. Sonny tells Ric to get a warrant next time before harassing Courtney. Ric storms off. Sonny asks Courtney to tell him who shot Jax, guessing that it was Faith, and he will tell Ric later and get him to drop the extradition orders for Sam in exchange for the information. Courtney thanks Sonny for running interference for her with Ric but tells him that she will not tell him who shot Jax until Jax says so.

Sonny pays a visit to Sam. He tells her that he just talked to Jason and that Jason got someone to confess to the arson and that she won't be extradited now. Sam panics and tells him that the confession is false and that she started the fire. Sonny realizes that she is covering for someone and tells her that the person who Jason got to confess is on death row and that Jason agreed to help take care of the guy's family financially if he agreed to confess to the arson. Sam relaxes when she realizes that Jason didn't get her brother to confess. Sonny is surprised when Sam asks him what Jason told him about the person she is covering for. Sonny asks her why she would tell Jason the truth but not him, the father of her child..

Courtney goes to see Carly at her club. She tells her that she thought about what Carly said about being able to go back to Jason. Courtney asks Carly why she decided to stay with Sonny after learning the truth about Sam. Carly tells her she stayed because she loves him and doesn't want anyone else to have him and that she almost left him and could have made him feel so guilty he would have let her leave with the boys and paid her whatever she wanted. She decided she couldn't leave him because then Sam would manage to worm her way back into Sonny's life and would have moved into her home and decorated her son's room for a nursery and she couldn't let that happen.  Sonny leaves Sam's room only to have another run-in with Ric. He asks Ric what he wants and why he hates him so much that he would try to harm Sam and their unborn child. Alexis gets off the elevator and approaches them. She informs them that she just got off the phone with some judge from Texas who informed her that some death row inmate confessed to the arson and murder of Sam's mother and that she is going to go tell Sam the good news. Ric accuses Sonny of having something to do with it but Sonny denies it and tries to hide his smirk when Ric storms off.

Sonny ran into little Kristina outside of Kelly's, she had run outside from the babysitter. Alexis was surprised to arrive and see her daughter in Sonny's arms. Once the babysitter and the child left, Sonny, seeing that Alexis was agitated, joked that he wasn't planning on stealing "her", finally cluing Alexis in on the fact that he was speaking of stealing the nanny for Sam and her baby. Alexis asked Sonny if he arranged the confession that exonerated Sam, and he gave his word that he had not.

Ric approached Carly at the hospital, trying to pit her against Sam, and attempting to learn if the confession of the inmate on death row was a fake. Carly said she would help, and she went to Sam's room and asked questions about the confession. However, Sonny interrupted. Sonny asked if he could be alone with Sam to discuss some things, so Carly left. In the corridor, she opened her purse and pulled out a tape recorder that she had been using inside the room. Sonny tried to learn from Sam who really set the fire, but she would not give him any information until she was officially cleared of the charges. Later, Carly found Ric alone and played him the tape. He heard Sam's voice talking about how she was glad the real arsonist had come forward. Ric asked Carly if Sam could have conned her, and Carly said no.

At Sam's trial, Ric accuses Sonny of buying a confession from a death row inmate to save Sam from going to jail. Alexis, however, gives a killer argument and gets Sam's conviction overturned. She later overhears a Sonny admitting that Ric was right on the money with his theory.

August 4th-  Sonny finds Alexis in Ric’s office and asks her if she is dating Ric? He suggests that considering she is supposed to hate Ric, she sure spends a lot of time hanging around him. He compliments her on handing Ric his a** in court that day, that she made Ric look like a nut case. Ric enters and questions who authorized them to be in his office. Sonny shares that he found Alexis waiting there. Sonny asks Ric to leave Sam and his baby in peace, and tells him to stay away from his children and their mothers. After Sonny leaves, Ric asks Alexis if she has changed her mind about sending Sonny to prison? She says not at all, he retorts, "Good because I’ve found a way to do it!"

Sonny goes to Jason’s and tells him that Courtney is right that he found Alexis in Ric’s office using the phone like it was her office and she looked guilty. He tells Jason that Alexis is working with Ric and they have to move Danny that night as if they find Danny they will have the evidence to charge Sonny with perjury. Sonny wants Jason to find Sam a safehouse, he says she doesn’t need one that Sam will stay with Jason. He points out that she doesn’t know anything about babies and she will need help. Sonny says he will hire a nanny. Jason argues that he can’t hold together two families and Jason knows what a baby needs from the time he spent with Michael. Jason asks Sonny if he feels that Sam can raise the baby alone and that he isn’t trying to steal Sonny’s daughter but trying to give her a good life. After Jason leaves, Sonny calls Sam to come downstairs. Sonny tells her that her leaving with Jason won’t work .

Jason leaves and goes to see Carly. He reminds of her of that night she came to him while she is pregnant with Michael and asked for his help. He tells her that he has done something that she won’t like. Carly feels betrayed that he would choose Sam over her, that he would say Sam’s baby is his. He tells her he didn’t betray her, that she knows she can trust him. That he wants Sonny to stay with Carly and her sons, and Sonny will know his daughter is safe in Jason’s care. Carly declares that Jason couldn’t possible love Sam, that easy can lead to a lonely life.
