Expanded Episode Descriptions
Sonny & Lily's Wedding, February 2, 1996 -
In a collage of overlapping scenes, Sonny and Lily prepare for the
impending nuptials. A hungover Luke, stops by Sonny's to pick him up for
the wedding. Sonny say's he's cool, but a bit nervous. Luke and
Sonny discuss Lily's many attributes. Robin stops by to help Lily get
ready. Robin does the something old, something new, thing with Lily, and
they gush over how great Sonny is and how great their life will be.
Brenda mopes in to see Ned and ask, "Where's Lois?"
"Alaska," he answers. Lois chats with Jax while
flying back from Alaska. He continues to shamelessly flirt with her. Lois
is dazzled by the Alaskan landscape below. Jax and she chat about Jax's
family especially his mother. Suddenly, he asks if she likes oysters; when
she says yes, he decides they should fly to Ireland for some. Back home,
Ned rambles on to Brenda about Lois' mystery plans that ended her up in
Alaska with Jax. Brenda interrupts saying, "I need her." Back at
her place, Brenda paces around when suddenly the door bursts open
and it's Miguel! "We have to stop them," she whimpers to him.
Brenda rants on about it and Miguel tries to get her to be sensible.
Miguel tells Brenda that even though he loves Lily, he can't trust her so
they will never be together again. He says that is what Sonny was telling
her too, so she should believe him. They should celebrate the wedding
because now they can get on with their lives. Brenda doesn't really
want to hear this. Lois insists that Jax take her back home and not to
Ireland. He argues and changes his mind several times having fun flirting
and bantering with her.
Robin talks to Mac and Katherine as she heads out for the wedding passing
Lucy who's on the way in. Lucy tells them she's going to San Antonio to
find Damian. Lucy rants on about her psychic visions of Damian, and
announces she'll go to San Antonio and wait for more impressions to hit
her. Eventually, Mac hears enough and phones Kevin. Lucy
emphatically tells Kevin that she's going to San Antonio. Kevin
tries desperately to talk her out of it, but they end up in a serious
argument about trust, and eventually, Lucy storms out. Mac tries to assure
Katherine everything will be okay. As she kisses him, the phone
interrupts. Letting the answering machine pick up, they
hear Lucy say she's at the airport headed for San Antonio. Mac lunges for
the phone but unfortunately is too late to catch Lucy.
Lucky arrives at the church sans Laura and LuLu whose ears are acting up
yet again. Soon, the ceremony begins with "Here Comes the
Bride." Senor Rivera leads his daughter down the aisle where the
dapper Sonny awaits and Brenda watches secretly from outside. Slowly, she
creeps in.
As the priest asks Lily the crucial question, she stuns everyone by
answering, "No, I can't ask you to do this." A bewildered
Brenda looks on uncomprehendingly.
February 5, 1996 - Lois and Jax are on their way back to PC in his private
jet. Jax is a pilot extraordinare. They are discussing the
success of the first part of Lois' plan. Double entendre is flowing fast
and furious between the two as Jax makes it evident that he things Lois is
the cat's meow. Jax reminds Lois that Ned will have to be kept in
the dark about their deal or he's be in danger of collusion (since he is
the CEO of the company she is ripping off, based on the insider info she
got as his wife). Lois tells Jax of the heightened sense of honesty
that exists in her marriage because of things past. She also tells
Jax he can skip the "pseudo-seduction" because her marriage is
solid. Lois then babbles on about how exciting it is to be in Jax's
plane.
Kevin arrives at Mac's to be greeted by the news that Lucy has flown the
coup. She is tracking down Damien in San Antonio on her own since everyone
was being so difficult about her visions. Mac has decided that Lucy
may be right and plans on going to SA over Kat's very vocal objections.
Mac says that he will hire extra protection and call in the cops, the
mounties, and anyone else he can get to stand guard and protect Ms. Bell.
Mac also decides that Luke should be invited to this party.
Lily has stopped the wedding, "I can't do this to you".
Sonny responds eloquently, "You didn't ask for anything, I'm doing
this because its what I want, I promise. I choose and want YOU.
I trust you with my life. This is about family, forever. I'll
respect, appreciate, and take care of you, I promise. He asked if
I'll cherish and honor you from this day forward, Yes Lily, I will, I
swear." (notice that throughout the entire speech never ONCE did he
mention that he loves, loved, or will love her today, tomorrow, yesterday,
or forever). Anyway, Lil is convinced and the ceremony goes on
without another hitch. They are now man and wife. Brenda,
watching silently in the back of the room walks out unseen, dejected and
devastated.
Meanwhile the wedding party goes back to Luke's. Lily tells everyone
how thankful she is and how much she loves everybody. Rivera and Mike
welcome each other to the family with the shake of in-laws. Rivera
comments how full and happy he is to have his daughter back, and Sonny for
a son. Sonny tells the room at large that he is happy.
Everyone comments how everyone trusts each other. Rivera then makes
a quick exit (because the police may mis-construe the event), but not
before once again commenting that "we are family". Lily
and Sonny dance ala the Godfather wedding scene to "You Belong to
Me". After Luke disentangles himself from the trio he
toasts the happy couple, they cut cake, and get ready to honeymoon in
Vermont. Lily tosses the bouquet, which Ruby catches and hands off
to Kat, who exchanges a meaningful glance with Mac. The couple make
their exit where they pause at the door for a kodak moment, and Lil
exhales.
Kat, Mac and Kevin seek Luke's help in San Antonio. He agrees, and
then tells Kevin that his tenderfoot status negates his participation in
this here pow-wow. Kevin responds beautifully, "I know Lucy
like the back of my hand. I've earned my stripes. She's my
hair-brained schemer!" However, Kevin agrees to stay in PC and
watch over Kat.
Keisha visits the amnesiac Jason. She has brought him all his
favorite things (cookies, perfect pear, Grandmae's lemonade).
"Who's Grandmae? Sorry, did I know her?" Keisha tells him
that Mary Mae has died. He tells her that while he likes some people, like
Ned and Lois, the rest of them keep expecting things, expecting someone
that he doesn't even know. She tells him that she loves him but he
tells her he doesn't love her. He is sorry this makes her sad. AJ enters,
babbling about how wonderful and saintly Jason was, and how wicked
and drunken AJ was. Jason couldn't care less. AJ then puts foot in
mouth for the final time and Keisha hustles him out of the room. She
speaks of her unkind feelings towards Ned and Lois, whom new Jason likes,
even though "Ned" put him in this condition. AJ is sorry
and comments how Jason is the closest he'll ever get to heaven. AJ
is of course, wracked with guilt. He then goes home and is tempted
by a bit of the bubbly, but decides to take a drink of the water housed in
the cut lead crystal (which we are supposed to believe is vodka). AJ
is once again on the road to ruin.
Sonny leaves Brenda at the altar, September 19, 1997 - Keesha confronts
Carly in the GH gym. Carly snaps back at Keesha, but Keesha stands firm
and says the whole thing will come out and Carly will get hers. AJ
goes to see the Q's. Alan and Edward are rude so Lila orders them to go to
the wedding while she talks to AJ. AJ asks Lila for the truth about Alan
and him. He says he always noticed things and asks her point blank if he
was Alan's son. She says yes. Lila tells AJ that Alan was very happy
when he found out AJ was his son. AJ tells Carly he won't tell Tony they
slept together as long as she plays it out his way.
Jax sees a news report about Brenda and Sonny. Jax flashes on Brenda as V
stands by trying to engage him in conversation; however, he's still doing
his broken-heart number. Jax mopes to V about the wedding. He tells
her Brenda is marrying someone who will make her miserable. V and Jax
guzzle champagne. When she staggers, he catches her, and they exchange
"that look."
Lucy ping-pongs around Brenda who is getting ready. Lucy and Brenda go
through the old/new/blue routine. The guests start to arrive, but Sonny is
not there yet. Mike stops by to learn Brenda is looking for Sonny. A
confident Brenda makes excuses for Sonny's lateness, but Mike is
concerned. Lucy flusters to Kevin that she feels disaster in the air.
Sonny sits alone staring at his hands which he sees as blood stained.
When Jason arrives, he mutters, "Everything I touch." Sonny
kvetches about the contract on him and on how Brenda may get killed
because of him. Jason tries to reassure Sonny that he and Brenda will be
safe, but Sonny paints a very grim picture of the future for Mrs.
Corinthos. When Jason goes to call the wedding off, Sonny orders him to
stop. Sonny tells Jason he's not marrying Brenda but will leave anyway to
save Brenda. Sonny's ace plan is that Jason should convince Brenda
Sonny doesn't love her. He leaves.
At the door, the security men stop Ruby who's missing her invitation.
Though she offers to let them do a cavity search, no one will volunteer so
they just let her pass. Shortly thereafter, Liz shows up with Ruby's
purloined invite. Lucky watches as the security guards question Liz.
He puts in a word for her and gets her in.
At the door, Mike vouches for an irate Edward and Alan (who also don't
bring their invites) and tells them the wedding hasn't started yet since
Sonny is missing. Brenda readies herself for the impending ceremony. In
the car, Sonny suddenly orders the driver to turn around and get back
fast.
Lila takes her seat at the wedding. Brenda prepares to start, insisting
Sonny is there but hiding for security reasons. They begin down the
aisle over Edwards objections. Everyone rises as she enters and walks
slowly to the alter and waits in increasing tension until the silence is
almost painful. At the sound of the church door opening, she turns and
fade to black.
September 22, 1997 - AJ tells Carly that he's not trying to protect her,
but he does want to protect the baby . He doesn't want the child to
be a scapegoat to Tony's doubts. Carly tells him"You're not
going to believe this, AJ, but I've always known you're a good
person." AJ answers "Well, you've got some way of showing
it." He tells her that she's going to have to prove that the baby is
not his. Carly tries to talk him out of amniocentesis as it is too risky
to the baby. He knows that and instead they will go for a sonogram
to pinpoint the time of conception. Carly panics. They can't
do it at GH, Tony will find out! She will have it done secretly at a
private clinic. Right, AJ scoffs and who will perform the procedure,
Mick the bartender? He hangs tough and tells her it's going to be
his way. And she better not get any smart ideas about eloping with
Tony to some far-off destination. Because Tony will find some very
interesting news from AJ when he goes to check his message machine.
V is a bit tipsy on champagne. As she almost stumbles, Jax catches
her in his arms. Oops, they are almost about to kiss, but then back
off. V admits that it's not the possible kiss that bothers her, but
the idea of being using as a means for Jax to "get through his
ex-wife's wedding day." Jax confides that he loved Brenda, but
he's learned that you can't make other people's choices for them. V
wonders why any woman who could have him would choose to be with someone
like Sonny Corinthos. Jax avoids an answer and gazes moodily out the
window.
Brenda walks down the aisle to the tunes of the wedding march. At
the altar, she turns to look as someone enters the church. But it
isn't her groom, but Jason who stands in the doorway. Brenda's face falls.
"Is he hurt?" she wants to know. "He's
fine," Jason answers. But he's not here. Meanwhile we see Sonny
in his limo. He tells the driver to turn back and park across from
St. Timothy's church. "Just for a minute."
Tears form in Brenda's eyes. The truth begins to sink in. The guests
look embarrassed and sad. They file out of the church casting
worried looks at Brenda. "Just as well," Edward harrumphs
to his son. "This doesn't make sense," a worried Mike says
to Lucy. "Why? Because your son is such a nice
person?" Lucy chokes out through her tears. Mike insists there must
be an explanation. His eyes are moist too. "Is he coming
back? Don't stand there like a stone!" he shouts at
Jason, standing there impasssively. Lila tries to gather most of the
guests and invite them back to her home. A rainstorm begins.
Mac gets off a good line about how a person could starve going to Brenda's
weddings. He and Felicia decide
to skip the Qs and go elsewhere for a snack.
Jason offers to take Brenda home. She doesn't want to go home, she
wants to get married. She starts to leave. "You won't
find him," Jason tells her. "I am so sick of your stone
face!" she cries. "I will not conduct my relationship with
Sonny through you."
"You don't have one [a relationship]
anymore. That's what I'm here to tell you."Brenda hauls off and
slaps him soundly. She knows that he knows what happened. She's
going to wait at the penthouse for Sonny--she doesn't care if it takes a
month. Jason tells her she can wait til the day she dies-but Sonny is
never coming back. Brenda begs for an explanation. There must be a
reason. Is Sonny in danger? Is he waiting somewhere for her?
She wants Jason to tell her, exactly, what Sonny said. Jason answers,
"He said to tell you it was a great ride." Outside, Sonny stands
in the rain waiting for a glimpse of Brenda.
At the Qs, Lila tries to console Mike. Alan remarks upon Mike's
departure that there's a kind of humiliation that only a son can bestow.
AJ arrives as Lila summoned him, she's been worried about him ever since
their talk. AJ comforts her. She was the only one who answered
truthfully the questions that had been troubling him for so long. Keesha
comes in and finds AJ alone. She admits that she recently "lost
her cool" with Carly. AJ's not upset, Carly bounced back just
fine. Nearby, Bobbie's eyebrows fly upward at the sound of Carly's name.
She finds Alan and warns him that Carly's been spending a lot of time with
his number one son. Meanwhile, Keesha asks AJ what gives with Carly.
Did he give her an ultimatum? She can't understand why he's
reluctant to blow the whistle on her, considering that everyone in his
family thinks the worst of him. Alan steps into the room and demands to
know what AJ knows about Carly Roberts. After all, Tony is his
closest friend and has the right to know what his fiancee is up to.
Brenda asks Jason what she should do now? In a really sad and
painful scene to watch, she makes it clear that she would gladly crawl
through broken glass for a chance to beg Sonny to take her back. Jason
again says he'll take her home. "Sonny is my home," the
broken-down wreck replies. She marshals enough nerve to tell him to
go to hell, ordering Sonny's goons out of her way. She stands at the
doorway, rain sluicing down. "He always leaves me standing in
the rain." She collapses and Jason helps her to a nearby chair.
Sonny watches as the church doors close, this is his last glimpse of
Brenda.
