Season 3: Love and a Lighter Angel - by Jackie

Let's review.
Season 2 of BTVS, Lie To Me, Angel says that he can't have kids because he's a vampire. So...the only thing that I can surmise is when Darla was human, maybe she and Lindsay had some fun. One thing's for sure: that was absolutely ridiculous.

Highlights...Fred being insanely weird. She needs some therepy. I do like Fred. I'm so happy about Amy being a regular. And all the hugging! I bet they were trying to appeal to the 7th Heaven audience there. LOL. The "Buffy" scene was done very well, and didn't cheapen Angel's love for her like Joss has done so many times on BTVS in the past.

I liked the closeness of Cordy and Angel; it's the way I like it, nice and open. Basically this was Cordy and Angel's revelation: That Buffy would've wanted him to keep fighting. Every act of good he does can attribute to her memory and what they had. That he doesn't have to forget about her to keep fighting (just think back to the climax of BTVS' Amends). He can do it in memory of her. That was wonderfully touching. By living a heroic existence and caring for those around him, Angel is proving that his love for Buffy has changed him for the better.

The flashbacks...I really enjoyed Angelus' lines. They were really funny: "I'd say you're an idiot, but I'd just be repeatin' myself." Oh, Angelus...how we miss you.

What the hell was Joss thinking?

This question has probably crossed the mind of nearly every ANGEL fan out there, since the show made its 3rd season debut last night on the WB network. And me? Well, my first reaction to seeing Darla was simply, "They're not making this plot go away, are they?" But then she got up from her chair. And whoa. It was like, "Did I really just see what I thought I saw?" Your eyes weren't playing tricks on you, people. Apparently, by some means still unknown to us, Darla is pregnant. So, how can vampires have children, if they are in fact already dead? Your guess is now as good as mine. Unless Joss can pull this off in a believable fashion, it will undoubtably be incredibly lame.

One thing I did love about this episode was the Angel/Cordy moments. They've gotten to the point now where they can just be themselves around one another. I think the show needs more of that comic relief, more so than the morbidness we encountered a lot throughout 2nd season. The show is clearly making a comeback for 3rd. The addition of the Fred character is also great, though I really hope the writers plan on developing her a great deal more. Because as of right now (like Jackie has said) she needs some serious therapy. LOL.

More flashbacks! I think it's truly awesome that they're still devoting parts of an ep to Angel's past. It's interesting to see the trouble he got himself into way back when. He also seems to have had a more lively sense of humor as well (although it was in the 1700's so he was still evil). But throughout all of this Romeo and Juliet stuff, as Cordy has dubbed it, one thing is still certain. He really did love Buffy. And not even her death can change that. Because as for what James said to him on the subway, how could Angel possibly care more for Darla, when he was truly conceited and souless back then? It makes perfect sense that he wouldn't want to devote his time to anything. The only thing Angelus was bent on was destruction. Keep the great eps coming, Joss. But please. Do away with the Darla plot already!
