Dawson`s Creek: I`ll Be Home For Christmas Part V Written By: LeeryAndPotter at LeeryAndPotter@hotmail.com Disclaimer: Dawson, Joey, Pacey, Andie, Jack, Jen, Drue & Alex are the property of Kevin Williamson and the WB network. I'm not sure if I own Lillian, seeing as how she hasn't been born yet on the show. I don't own them, so please don't sue. I do, however, own DJ. He's my own creation. Category: D/P friendship…with some D/J overtones. HA, you didn't think I'd write non-D/J fic, did you? Rating: PG-13, basically, if you can watch the show, you can read this. Spoilers: DJ confronts his parents, as well as Pacey, about their pasts. Then tries to help them bury the hatchet Cut to the Leery house. Dawson and Joey arrive home. JOEY: You would think even he would mature after high school? DAWSON: Don't let him get to you. We'll just have to live with the satisfaction that we make more money that he does. Joey laughs JOEY: I never thought I would see the day when I could say something like that. Suddenly, they look up. On the staircase, they see DJ coming towards them. DAWSON: Hey DJ. What are you still doing up? You didn't wake Katie, did you? DJ: Katie's still asleep. I just got here, I was talking to aunt Bessie. JOEY: Oh? About what? DJ: Lots of things, mom…lots of things… DJ looks down for a moment, then goes over to them. DJ: Including an old…friend…of yours. A guy by the name of "Pacey". Which, ironically, is the same name I was born with. Joey bites her lip. DAWSON: (calmly) How much did she tell you? DJ: Let me put it this way, dad. The Capeside Regetta wasn't exactly your finest moment, was it? Dawson reacts as if the pain of that memory affected him physically. JOEY: I'd better go check on Katie. Dawson? DAWSON: I'll handle this…don't worry. Dawson kisses her on the cheek, and Joey goes upstairs. DJ looks at his father. They both walk into the kitchen DAWSON: Well…say something. DJ: I'm just trying to find the right words. After a moment, Dawson speaks up. DAWSON: I know how this feels, you know. My parents…your grandparents…had some problems when I was a teenager. I remember seeing my dad break down crying in this very same kitchen. Let me tell you, nothing in the world hurts more than finding out that the people who raised you are human too. DJ: Tell me about it. DAWSON: When I found out they were breaking up, I cried the second hardest of my entire life. DJ: What was the first hardest? DAWSON: The day they got back together. The day that I collapsed on a dock, watching the person I loved more than life itself leave me for someone who used to be one of my closest friends. DJ has a sad expression on his face. DJ: But you got her back? DAWSON: Yeah, I did. Under the worst circumstances possible. DJ: Do you ever regret it? I mean… DAWSON: Do I regret loving her, you mean? Not for a million years. You're mother is everything to me. My best friend, my inspiration, my conscience…my soulmate. She's everything to me, and not all the Oscars in the world can change that. My only regret is that it took losing my second best friend for me to see that. With that, Dawson goes upstairs. DJ stays in the kitchen to think. Cut to Lily's bedroom. Joey is lying in bed, while Dawson is pacing back and forth. JOEY: You're going to ware a hole in the floor, you know that? DAWSON: Sorry, Jo. Do you think it's kind of rude of us? I mean, making Lily and Katie stay in the guestroom? JOEY: It was your parents' ideas. Besides, this room has a lot of memories for us. DAWSON: Minus the new "girlish" design. Joey laughs. JOEY: I don't mind. Dawson lays in the bed, next to her. JOEY: Remember when they let us use this room on our wedding night? Dawson smiles at her. DAWSON: Yeah. They had Jen, Andie, and Jack move all my old stuff back in here. Speilberg posters, masks, everything. So that it looked exactly like it did the first time we kissed. JOEY: …the first time we "really kissed". A step back, I know. But I've got to admit…it was pretty romantic. They look into each other's eyes for a moment. JOEY: It's not the room that's bothering you, is it? DAWSON: No, it's this whole Pacey thing. I've spent the past decade and a half trying to be an adult. But the second I see Pacey Witter's face, I turn 18 again. I just don't know how to handle this. JOEY: You're not going to handle it, Dawson. We're going to handle it. You and me…together. DAWSON: That's what I'm afraid of, I think. That I'll lose you to him again. Joey just looks deeply in his eyes. JOEY: (whispering) You'll never lose me. They kiss, then lie down on the bed. The camera pans towards the window, to where it shows the night sky. Cut to the Potter's B&B. DJ is in Alex's room staring out the window towards the creek. ALEX: I don't believe this. I mean, god, how could I forget something like that? DJ: You must have been nearly a toddler back then. It's not like you'd remember any of it. ALEX: Yeah, but still… They are both silent for a moment, then Alex speaks up. ALEX: I've known Pacey Witter since I was a kid, and I've never seen him that upset. DJ: Wait a minute…you know where he lives? Perfect. ALEX: Huh? DJ: I want to talk to him. ALEX: Are you kidding me? DJ: Nope. We sneak out, we stop at my grandparent's house to pick up Lily, and then we head on over to Pacey's. ALEX: Exactly what are you planning here? DJ grins DJ: You'll find out. Cut to the docks behind Pacey's beach house. DJ, Alex, and Lily arrive in a rowboat. ALEX: I don't like this. Sneaking in like burglars. LILY: It's not like we're trespassing. We know this guy. DJ looks at the beach house. DJ: Wow, this place is cool. LILY: Yeah, Pacey and his sister Gretchen bought it before I was born. But he started living there alone when she left. ALEX: Can you two quiet down? Someone's going to catch us. DJ: No one's going to… Suddenly, DJ bumps into somebody. DJ: …catch…us…? He looks up and sees Pacey looking down at him. DJ, Alex, and Lily scream. PACEY: CAN YOU STOP THAT?!! Jeez, wake up the whole area, why don't you? They calm down. PACEY: Since you're obviously not trying to rob me, I'd better invite you in. Cut to inside the beach house kitchen. Pacey pours the kids some hot chocolate. PACEY: So…what brings you three here so late? They remain quiet for a moment, then DJ speaks up. DJ: Umm…my aunt Bessie just told me some interesting things. About you…and my parents… Pacey realizes what he's talking about, and becomes somber. PACEY: Oh. DJ: And…considering how you reacted when you saw my dad…well…I thought maybe I could help you straighten things out. Pacey stands up and walks across the room. PACEY: You know…I should have pegged you as a Leery. You have that whole "reluctant hero" thing going on. You also seem to be looking for a good ending to this too. After all these years, I still can't decide whether that's a good thing or a bad thing. DJ: It's always worked for me. PACEY: I'm impressed. Most people would be freaking out right about now. DJ: Oh, I'm freaking out all right. I feel like Marty McFly in "Back To The Future", seeing my parents as they were when they were teenagers. Only they're not teenagers, they're just acting like they are. Pacey becomes confused. PACEY: What do you mean? DJ: They don't want to deal with this, and neither do you. The grown-up thing to do would be to bury the hatchet once and for all. PACEY: Ain't gonna happen, kid. DJ: You used to be friends. PACEY: Accent on "used to be"… DJ: And can be again. Just…just talk to them, okay. Pacey sits down again. PACEY: Even if I wanted to, I really doubt Dawson would actually stand still long enough to listen. Lilly speaks up. LILY: My parents are having their Christmas party tonight. You know, the one you didn't want to go to. Trust me, if there's one thing my big brother is, it's a sucker for tradition. He'll have to talk to you there. PACEY: I still don't know… LILY: Pleasssse Lily looks at him, pleading. PACEY: Oh, what the heck. Jen and the McPhees will be there too, right? That'll stop it from being too weird. DJ grins at him. PACEY: I'm not making any promises. I'll talk to them, that's all. Deal? DJ: Deal. Cut to the next day. DJ, Alex, and Lily are walking by the docks. ALEX: I can not believe you actually pulled that one off. DJ: That was the easy part. Actually getting them to say three words to each other is what's hard. They hear footsteps coming towards them. ALEX: Oh oh. Not again. JEFF: (behind them) Well, well, if it isn't the "good Samaritan". They turn around and see Jeff Valentine walking towards them with his father. Alex gives him an evil look. JEFF: Ouuuuuu. You're scaring me, Potter. Better watch yourself, I've got my dad with me this time. DRUE: Potter? (chuckling) So this is the little crossbred bastard, huh son? DJ walks up to him. DJ: Sir, I don't think… DRUE: Well, that's pretty obvious. Cause if you did think, you'd know enough to mind your own business. Who are you, anyway? DJ: DJ Leery. DRUE: Leery? Wow, it's old home week, ain't it? Of course, I can see the hereditary forehead. Now DJ gives him an evil look. But before he can say anything, they hear a voice behind them. JEN: (from behind) Can't you go bother someone more your speed, Drue? Like a tree frog? Jen comes into view. DRUE: Wow, it is old home week. You just can't stay away from you, can you Miss Lindley? JEN: Dream on, creep. Just leave these kids alone, or else. DRUE: Or else what? Maybe in the big city, you're a big shot. But here in Capeside…you can't touch me… He moves up close to her. DRUE: …unless, of course, you ask me really nice. He grins at her suggestively. Jen turns her head in disgust. JEN: Come on, guys. We're going. Jen, DJ, Alex, and Lily leave. Drue and Jeff stand there with grins plastered across their faces. DJ: What's his problem? JEN: I wouldn't date him…and you're mom gave him a black eye in high school DJ laughs. To Be Continued... It's the Leery Christmas party, and Pacey shows up. Can he finally confront Dawson and Joey? Gretchen shows up too, as well as Andie. Plus, why is Jack so uncomfortable around Jen lately?
