Rating: PG-13, basically, if you can watch the show, you can read this.

Spoilers: The gang gets a visit from Will’s Capeside friends, but trouble looms. It’s cross-over time.

Editors Note: Well, since part 10-A was a DC episode, this part is a Young Americans episode. Sorry it took so long, but I hope it was worth it. Only 2 more parts to go.

V.O.(female Jake): Previously on Dawson’s Creek and Young Americans

Cut to restaurant.

PACEY: Hey, guys. Look what I found

JOEY: This can't be who I think it is, Will Krudski?

Cut to Will and Andie talking.

WILL: I got some really good news. That scholarship to Rawley... it came through.

ANDIE: (jumps out of her chair, rushes over and hugs him) Will, that’s fantastic.

Cut to Dawson and Pacey fighting at the beach.

Pacey: (yelling) No, Jo, let’s not forget who started this, OK. Let’s not forget who pushed me towards Joey Potter in the first place. (to Dawson) It was you!

Dawson goes to protest but Pacey cuts him off

Pacey: Yes! It was you who couldn’t be bothered

Dawson: (starts to yell as well) Because I didn’t want to get hurt again, Pacey! I still had feelings for her, I still loved her! I– I (speaks in normal tone) I still love her.

Cut to Dawson collapsing on the dock at the end of ‘True Love’.

Cut to Will and Scout in front of Rawley Academy.

SCOUT: Hi. Scout Calhoun.

WILL: Will Krudski.

Cut to Scout and Mr. Banks.

MR. BANKS: Bella’s mom, and your dad. You can’t be with Bella.

Cut to Scout and Sean in the cabin.

SCOUT: Bella might find out she has a choice, and she might not choose you.

Sean attacks him.

Cut to Pacey and Gretchen kissing. Joey and Dawson catch them.

PACEY: Dawson? (sadly) Joey. Look, this isn’t what it looks like.

JOEY: O-oh really, Pacey? B-because it looks like you were just kissing another girl.

PACEY: Look, Jo, I can explain this…

JOEY: YOU KNOW WHAT, PACEY, I DON’T THINK YOU CAN.

Cut to Andie being shot.

Cut to Pacey and Andie is the hospital.

PACEY: I love you.

Pacey and Andie kiss.

Cut to Dawson and Pacey in the cafeteria.

DAWSON: If Joey came up to me and said she wanted to get back together, I would do it in a heartbeat. But that’s the problem, she doesn’t. All she wants from me is friendship, nothing else.

Cut to Joey almost kissing a sleeping Dawson, but backing away at the last moment.

Cut to Sean beating up Scout, and Jake trying to stop him.

JAKE(male voice): Stop it, get off him.

Sean accidentally hits her, and she falls to the ground unconscious. Hamilton runs up to Sean and pulls him away by the shirt collar, furious.

HAMILTON: YOU LITTLE PIECE OF…

Hamilton punches Sean.

Cut to Will and Sean arguing.

SEAN: Why are you taking his side?

WILL: Scout’s my friend.

SEAN: I thought I was your friend?

WILL: You are.

SEAN: Not any more.

Sean storms out.

Cut to Dawson and Joey outside of Bella’s house.

DAWSON: I was talking to Scout, you know, Will’s friend. And I heard something interesting about him and Bella…

JOEY: You mean the whole ‘Star Wars’ scenario? Yeah, Bella told me. What about it?

DAWSON: Well, I don’t think it’s true.

Cut to Will kissing Andie. Pacey runs up and punches him.

DAWSON: Pacey, calm down.

PACEY: Stay out of this, Dawson. This is between me and Will. Do you want to know what he just did?

DAWSON: I saw the whole thing. You’re over-reacting.

PACEY: I can’t believe I’m hearing this from you of all people. What are you, some sort of hypocrite?

Pacey starts to walk away.

PACEY: Just leave me alone, okay.

Andie tries to stop him, but Pacey quickly moves away from her.

PACEY: ALL OF YOU!

Cut to Dawson at the window.

DAWSON: It’s not over yet.

Fade to black.

Episode # 210(Young Americans)

Soulmates

Voice Over (Will): Did you ever have that feeling that you’re the only person like yourself in the world? Sure, you have friends, you have relatives, but do any of them truly know you? I look in the mirror when I wake up and I think ‘why do I feel so alone in the world?’ Sometimes I wish there was someone I could just talk to about everything that was bothering me, without having them hold it against me. True, I could trust my friends with those things, but I seem to be losing more friends by the minute.

Cut to Will and Scout’s room. Will is pacing back and forth.

SCOUT: You do realize that you’re going to wear a hole in the floor, don’t you?

WILL: I’m trying to think.

SCOUT: Let me guess. You’re thinking about that Pacey guy, right? Jeez, just apologize already.

WILL: I tried that, didn’t work.

SCOUT: Well, try again.

Will doesn’t answer. He speaks up after a few minutes.

WILL: Why doesn’t he just apologize for punching me first?

SCOUT: Well, you did kiss his girlfriend. The ball is sort of in your court.

WILL: So I have to solve everything, as usual. I have to tell you, Scout. I’m sick and tired of having to be ‘Mr. Fixit’ around here.

DAWSON: (off camera) Welcome to my world.

Will and Scout turn towards the bed, where Dawson is looking at a map of New Rawley.

WILL: Can’t you talk to him, Dawson? He’ll listen to you.

DAWSON: Not likely. He’s been ignoring me as much as he was you, Will.

WILL: That’s just great.

SCOUT: When did you get so ‘woe is me’? Listen, maybe I can talk to Pacey.

WILL: No, just stay out of it Scout. I can worry about it myself.

SCOUT: Well, worry about it later, we’ve got to get to the lake before we’re late. Remember what Finn said.

WILL: I can’t, not right now. I’m going to go into town and try to talk to Andie.

SCOUT: You’re going to skip class? You? Finn’s going to kick you off the crew.

WILL: Just tell him that I had a ‘moral dilemma’ to take care of, okay.

Will leaves.

DAWSON: Well, that was abrupt. Why didn’t he want you to help him?

SCOUT: That’s just his way. For some reason, Will doesn’t like it when someone else tries to solve his problems for him.

DAWSON: In my experience, when people don’t want help is when they need it the most.

SCOUT: Just try explaining that to him. He’s still upset about the whole thing with Sean. I mean, the guy was a jerk, but was Will’s best friend. And now Pacey hates him…

Scout trails off. Dawson quickly changes the subject.

DAWSON: Umm…Scout, listen. I want to talk to you about something.

SCOUT: What?

DAWSON: I want to try to help you clear everything up, you know, about Bella.

SCOUT: What about her?

DAWSON: I think it’s about time we find out the truth. Whether you and Bella are related or not.

Scout is surprised by this.

YOUNG AMERICANS THEME BEGINS

SCOUT: Listen, Dawson…

DAWSON: You want me to stay out of it too?

SCOUT: It’s not that. It’s just that I have this strange feeling that, if I find out the truth, I won’t like what I find. That it’ll be something bad.

DAWSON: But what if it’s something good?

SCOUT: Me and Bella are pretty good friends now. I think we’d best leave it at that.

DAWSON: I’ve seen you together. You may be good friends, but I have a hunch that you would make an even better couple. I have a good sense about these things.

SCOUT: What? Are you some sort of expert on this ‘friends who want to be together romantically, but can’t for some strange reason’ scenario?

DAWSON: ‘Expert’ nothing. I practically invented it.

YOUNG AMERICANS CREDITS START

Cut to outside Rawley academy. Hamilton is siting by a tree, reading something. Jake come running towards him, looking almost panicked.

JAKE(normal voice): Hamilton, you have to help me.

HAMILTON: What’s wrong?

JAKE(normal voice): That Jen girl, you know, from Capeside.

HAMILTON: What about her?

JAKE(normal voice): She won’t leave me alone. Every single day, she follows me around, spouting some sort of ‘anti-gender gap’ or another.

HAMILTON: Gotta admit, the girl’s determined.

JAKE(normal voice): Why me? Why not you, or Will, or Scout, or your dad even?

HAMILTON: Too bad she didn’t go after Ryder. Now that would have been a sight.

JAKE(normal voice): Just my luck. She has to go after the only non-male guy in this school.

Suddenly, Jen appears and starts walking over to them.

HAMILTON: (quietly) Don’t look now, but here she comes.

JAKE(male voice): Hi Jen, what’s up?

JEN: The testosterone in this place, that’s what’s up. Some British guy just wolf-whistled at me.

JAKE(male voice): That would be Ryder.

JEN: Well, tell your friend Ryder to stay away from me.

JAKE(male voice): ‘Friend’? I absolutely hate the guy.

HAMILTON: Yeah, Jen. I think everybody hates him. His mission in life seems to be to stir up trouble.

JEN: Ahh…a male version of Abby Morgan, huh?

JAKE(male voice): Who?

JEN: Never mind.

HAMILTON: We’d love to stay and chat, Jen. But we’ve got to get to the lake before Finn has our hides.

Hamilton and Jake start rapidly walking away.

JAKE(normal voice): (whispering) I owe you one.

HAMILTON: (whispering) Really? Well I aim to collect.

JAKE(normal voice): (whispering)Oh, stop it.

Cut to the lake. Hamilton, Jake, and Finn are in the canoe. Suddenly Scout comes running towards them.

FINN: Glad you could make it, Scout. Where’s Mr. Krudski at?

SCOUT: He…he had something else to do.

FINN: Excuse me?

DAWSON: (off-camera) A ‘moral dilemma’ he called it.

Camera shows Dawson walking over to the canoe.

FINN: Another one of Will’s friends from the sailboat, right? Well, Mr…

DAWSON: Leery. Dawson Leery.

FINN: Well, Dawson. What do you think I should do about Will’s absence?

DAWSON: I do not have a clue. But I would like to offer my help as a temporary stand-in.

HAMILTON: This isn’t exactly easy, Dawson. A canoe is a lot different than a sailboat.

DAWSON: Good, because Pacey’s the sailor, not me. I basically suck at sailing. Rowing, on the other hand, I’ve been doing since I was a kid.

FINN: Well, you’re determined, I’ll give you that much. Hop in. Let’s see what you can do.

DAWSON: Thank you, Mr. Finn.

FINN: No mister necessary.

Dawson and Scout get in the boat.

Cut to the other side of the lake. Pacey is in his boat, which is at a dock. He is looking out towards the sea. Suddenly, he hears a voice behind him.

JOEY: Not what you expected, huh?

Pacey turns around and sees Joey.

PACEY: What isn’t exactly what I expected?

JOEY: Coming up here, you probably expected to have a lot of fun, didn’t you? But instead…

PACEY: Instead I’m stuck in the exact same situation I was in eight months ago. The only difference is I’m on the other side of the fence.

JOEY: This isn’t the same thing, Pacey. What’s happening between you and Will is a lot different than what happened between you and Dawson.

PACEY: Yeah, you’re right. You were Dawson’s ex, while Andie was my girlfriend at the exact moment Will kissed her.

JOEY: ‘Was’? She still is, Pacey.

PACEY: Not from where I’m standing.

JOEY: Pacey, don’t do this to yourself. You spent an entire year…

PACEY: Just save it, Joey. Okay.

They are both silent for a few moments.

PACEY: You want to know a secret, Potter? I originally wanted to call the boat ‘The S.S. Witter’, I know, inflated ego, huh.

JOEY: What changed your mind?

PACEY: Andie. When I found out that she cheated on me, I decided to change it to ‘True Love’, talk about your sappy choices. I just figured ‘What would Dawson do in a situation like this?, he’d probably make a movie about it’. But since my skills as a director aren’t exactly that good, I thought why not just use something I’ve already started.

JOEY: One question. Why?

PACEY: I don’t know. I was so convinced that Andie was the one, you know. And that if she wasn’t, I’d have to find out who was. So I went on my quest to find that person, but once I found her, there was one little dilemma.

JOEY: What was that?

PACEY: How could someone be ‘the one’, if she was already ‘the one’ for somebody else? The truth is, I just wanted someone to feel about me the way you feel about Dawson. You know, like a soulmate.

JOEY: I always wondered what you were thinking about during our talk after the regetta.

PACEY: Face it, if you and Dawson we’re together right now, there would be no chance of you cheating on him.

JOEY: Andie didn’t cheat on you this time, Pacey. She just kissed another guy. Actually, another guy kissed her, and I don’t think it was her idea either. Remember what happened when we first met Jack?

PACEY: Yeah, and you dumped Dawson after that, remember. Why should I do anything differently?

JOEY: I don’t know. Maybe I was hoping that you could learn from our mistakes.

Joey leaves, and Pacey sits back down.

Cut to Friendly’s, Andie is sitting at a table with Jack when Will comes in.

WILL: Andie, I have to talk with you.

ANDIE: Just leave me alone, Will.

She gets up to leave, Will follows her.

WILL: Just let me explain…

They both leave the restaurant, just as the waitress arrives at the table, where Jack is sitting alone.

WAITRESS: Your bill, sir.

Jack sighs.

Cut to outside.

ANDIE: Explain? I’d really like to hear an explanation, Will. Because I doubt it can be a good one.

WILL: Listen, I made a little mistake.

ANDIE: YOU KISSED ME. That is not a little mistake, that is a big mistake. Especially considering I have a boyfriend, who, by the way, hasn’t spoken to me since it happened. Not only that, but he’s one of your oldest friends.

WILL: Which is why I wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t feel very strongly about it.

ANDIE: Huh?

WILL: Andie…I really like you, and I just need to make that clear.

ANDIE: Will, don’t do this.

WILL: Don’t do what, be interested in you?

ANDIE: Listen, you’re a great guy Will. One of the best I’ve ever met, but don’t do this. I spent so much time trying to get Pacey back and now…

WILL: So you’re going to just let him treat you the same way as last time.

ANDIE: Don’t fight over me, please. When two friends fight over a girl, no one gets a happy ending out of it.

Andie leaves. Will stands in the middle of the street, confused.

Cut to the lake, in the canoe. Scout, Dawson, Jake, Hamilton, and Finn are there.

HAMILTON: So, what’s up with Will? Why isn’t he here?

SCOUT: He’s trying to talk to Andie.

JAKE(male voice): Why’s that? Does he think that she can help fix things with Pacey?

SCOUT: Actually, I think he’s hoping Andie will chose him over Pacey.

HAMILTON: Are you kidding me? He should be trying to fix things with Pacey, not trying to get the guy’s girlfriend. I mean, it’s possible that he’ll never see either of them again after this week is over.

FINN: "And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back." All right, where’s that from? I want one of you to tell me who said it, and when.

SCOUT: Shakespeare again?

FINN: Wrong.

DAWSON: I know where it’s from.

SCOUT: You telling me Speilberg said it?

DAWSON: No. It was Robert Frost, from ‘The Road Not Taken’.

FINN: Very good, Mr. Leery. It seems that I’ve underestimated you. Mind telling my class what the poem is about.

DAWSON: In the poem, it talks of coming to two separate paths, like a fork in the road. And the guy notices that one of them is worn out, like several people walked through it already. Now the other one looks like no one’s ever been down it before. So, he takes the second one.

HAMILTON: So this is about what path to take?

FINN: In a way, Mr. Flemming. All of you have experience with the outside world, you know how people act, and how you’re expected to. Well just listen to the whole thing…

Finn opens his book.

FINN: Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both. And be one traveler, long I stood, And looked down one as far as I could, To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there, Had worn them really about the same; And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.

Finn closes the book.

FINN: People in your life tell you how you’re expected to act. Think about how most teenagers are shown to act. Risk takers. At first it was unique, but now that sort of behavior has almost become to norm. Perhaps the biggest risk would be not to be a risk taker.

DAWSON: That’s what I live by ‘Mr. Keating’.

Scout, Hamilton, and Jake look confused.

FINN: I’m flattered by the comparison, Dawson.

SCOUT: ‘Comparison’? Who’s Mr. Keating?

DAWSON: Robin Williams. Have you ever seen ‘Dead Poet’s Society’? The movie revolves around the students at an all-boys school, a lot like this one, only in the 50’s. It’s very strict there, the teachers all expect the boys to do exactly as they tell them. Except Mr. Keating. He convinces them to think for themselves, to do things that might be against what other people tell them, to, as he put it, Carpe Diam.

HAMILTON: Isn’t that the name of Mr. McPhee’s boat?

JAKE(male voice): It’s Latin, Hamilton. It means ‘Seize the day’.

HAMILTON: You never told me you spoke Latin.

JAKE(male voice): I don’t. I’ve seen that movie, too.

DAWSON: You know, this reminds me a little of home.

SCOUT: What does? New Rawley or the school?

DAWSON: Neither. The lake, the docks, that reminds me a little of Capeside. Where I grew up.

FINN: Why don’t you describe it.

DAWSON: Ok, umm…it’s not exactly a lake, it’s a creek. As a matter of fact, everything in the entire town seems to end there, like it’s a backdrop in a movie. Then there’s my house, right by it. A ladder going up to my bedroom window.

SCOUT: Sounds like the perfect way to sneak girls up there.

DAWSON: Only one in particular. Joey, my best friend. She would row over to my house every day and we would just sit in my room all night and watch movies. Then we would compare them to real life, ours in particular.

Dawson points to a nearby dock.

DAWSON: The two of us would usually sit at the edge of a dock, just like that one. We would sit, and talk, and think about our lives. Or sometimes I would just get in my boat, row to the middle of the creek, stand up, and watch the sun rise. I have to tell you, from there, it’s quite a sight.

They all stay silent for a few moments.

JAKE(male voice): Um…Dawson. I need you to do me a favor.

DAWSON: What?

JAKE(male voice): Tell Jen Lindley to leave me alone. Please.

DAWSON: I heard about you being her victim for the school. Relax, we’ll be gone by the end of the week. It’s no big deal.

JAKE(male voice): It’s a very big deal.

DAWSON: Why?

Jake doesn’t answer. A few moments later, Scout buts in.

SCOUT: Jake’s a girl.

HAMILTON: SCOUT!

DAWSON: Excuse me?

SCOUT: He’s a she.

Dawson’s jaw drops.

JAKE(normal voice): Oh, that’s just great. Thanks a lot, Calhoun. First Will, now you, why don’t we just broadcast it over the P.A. system.

DAWSON: Well, um, Jake. This I didn’t expect. Well, I should have. My best friend is a girl named Joey. Good acting, by the way. You deserve an Oscar.

JAKE(normal): Thanks.

HAMILTON: Who’d will tell.

JAKE(normal): Pacey.

SCOUT: There’s irony for you.

Cut to gas station. Joey arrives and walks over to Bella.

BELLA: Hey, Joey. Any luck?

JOEY: Nope. None whatsoever.

BELLA: Poor Will.

Joey gets a confused look on her face.

JOEY: Poor Will? What about poor Pacey? I mean, this whole thing is Will’s fault.

BELLA: Joey, in this kind of situation there are no winners.

JOEY: Tell me about it.

BELLA: I mean, Will’s friendship with Sean was basically obliterated for the same reasons.

JOEY: Listen, that wasn’t your fault. From what you told me the other day, you had absolutely nothing to do with that. It was between Sean, Scout, and Will.

BELLA: Yeah, but what were Sean and Scout fighting over, huh?

Bella sighs.

JOEY: Umm…Bella. I need to ask you something.

BELLA: What?

JOEY: What if I told you there was a way to find out whether or not you and Scout were related?

BELLA: Then I would probably tell you to butt out.

JOEY: Then what if I told you that I am very stubborn and kept persisting?

BELLA: Okay, lets drop the what if’s. Why are you doing this?

JOEY: Doing what?

BELLA: Trying to help me. I mean, you don’t even know me, we just met a few days ago.

JOEY: Well…because I understand what it’s like. How it feels to want to be with someone, but having it appear to be impossible because of the circumstances being against you. Look on the bright side, Scout wants to be with you too.

Bella seems to understand Joey’s reasoning.

BELLA: Okay, what’s your idea?

JOEY: Have you tried talking to your dad?

BELLA: He’s the one who told us we were related.

JOEY: I mean your real dad. You ‘supposed’ real dad.

BELLA: Tried to, didn’t work.

JOEY: How about your mom?

BELLA: I don’t even want to go there. If I tried to talk with her again, I’d probably ask her everything but.

JOEY: The blood tests didn’t work?

BELLA: Blood tests?

JOEY: You did try and get a blood test done, didn’t you?

BELLA: No. Why?

JOEY: We get a blood sample, check out one from Scout, then compare the two…

BELLA: …we’ll find out whether or not….

JOEY: There’s your answer.

Bella starts getting excited. She’s practically jumping up and down.

BELLA: The hospital! They probably have samples at the hospital.

JOEY: Then lets just break into the hospital? Are you serious?

BELLA: Joey, please. Please, please, please, please, please , please, please.

JOEY: Okay, okay. But we’ll need some help. And I think I know just the person.

Cut to Rawley Academy. Will arrives and sees Dawson talking with Scout and Hamilton. He goes up to them.

WILL: I’m back. How mad was he?

DAWSON: Not too mad. But he seems to be pretty lenient, considering he lets a girl go to an all-boys school.

Will looks shocked. He turns to Hamilton.

WILL: You told him?

HAMILTON: Actually, Scout did.

SCOUT: Why not, Will. You told Pacey.

WILL: That’s different, I’ve known Pacey a lot longer than either of you have known Dawson.

DAWSON: Speaking of which, any luck talking to Pacey.

WILL: No, and things aren’t working out too well with Andie either. She doesn’t seem to want to try to work things out with me.

Dawson is surprised.

DAWSON: Hold on a second. Are you telling me that you are actually trying to pursue a relationship with her? What are you thinking?

WILL: Why shouldn’t I? I mean, what’s Pacey have that I don’t?

DAWSON: Well, for starters, he’s the one who’s her boyfriend.

WILL: Then how come he hasn’t spoken to her since that night? I have as much of a right to her as he does. He completely ignored her for over a year…

DAWSON: Will, just forget about it, okay. You’ll only make things worse.

Will loses cool.

WILL: I can’t believe I’m actually hearing this, from you of all people. I thought you would’ve liked to see Pacey get a taste of his own medicine.

Dawson tenses up.

DAWSON: Will…don’t go there.

WILL: Because, last time I was in Capeside, I seem to recall you and Pacey acting a lot worse than him and I are now.

DAWSON: Stop it.

WILL: How on earth do you expect me to forget about Andie when you couldn’t forget about Joey?

DAWSON: I SAID STOP IT!

Both Scout and Hamilton are surprised by this outburst.

HAMILTON: That was unexpected. Wasn’t Joey the one he mentioned when we were on the boat?

SCOUT: Yeah. ‘Best friend’ my butt.

DAWSON: (angry) Listen here, Krudski. You’re not in my position, you’re in Pacey’s position. That is why I seem to be more understanding towards his side. And do me a favor, do not ever bring that up again.

Dawson starts walking away, Scout goes up to Will.

WILL: I think I just pushed the wrong button.

SCOUT: That’s one heck of a button.

WILL: You think?

SCOUT: Will, I need to ask your opinion on something. Is Dawson a trustworthy person?

WILL: Yeah, I guess. I mean, he’s never done anything to prove otherwise. Why do you ask?

SCOUT: Because he said that he thinks he can find out the truth about me and Bella.

WILL: What? Are you serious?

SCOUT: Yeah. And I’m going to see if he can.

WILL: Scout, don’t. You’re just going to get disappointed again. You’ve already suffered enough.

SCOUT: I have to know, pal. I have to know what the truth is. That way, I can finally put all this behind me.

Will pauses for a second.

WILL: Then count me in.

Cut to the gas station. Jake shows up in her motorcycle.

BELLA: Hi Jake. What’s up?

JAKE(normal voice): Hamilton said he had to do something tonight, so I figured I’d just hang out here.

BELLA: Well, I hate to break it to you, Jake, but I’ve already planned something for tonight.

JAKE(normal voice): What?

BELLA: Breaking into a hospital

Jake looks surprised.

JAKE(normal voice): What? Why?

BELLA: Joey thinks she can find out whether me and Scout are related or not by comparing blood tests.

JAKE(normal voice): You might have a problem there. The blood tests are all on computer files, you’d need to hack into the system. I’d better come along.

Joey arrives with Pacey.

PACEY: All right, another one. Okay ladies, when do we leave?

JOEY: ‘Ladies’? You’re forgetting about Jake, Pacey.

PACEY: Whoopsy.

JOEY: What? What’s ‘whoopsy’?

PACEY: Never mind.

JOEY: No, what did you mean?

Everyone is silent for a minute.

BELLA: Jake’s not a guy. Jake’s a girl.

JAKE(normal voice): Bella.

JOEY: Excuse me?

PACEY: It’s true, Jo. Jake is really Jacqueline.

JOEY: And you know this how?

PACEY: (sadly) Will told me.

JAKE(normal voice): Listen do not tell anybody, okay.

JOEY: Okay, I’m just surprised that’s all.

PACEY: You should be. She’s done the only scheme to get better education that you haven’t tried yet.

JOEY: Bite me, Pacey.

Cut to outside the Hospital, at the fire escape. Dawson, Scout, Will, and Hamilton are quietly climbing up, wearing all black.

SCOUT: Why are we dressed like this again?

DAWSON: Camouflage.

HAMILTON: Why am I here again?

WILL: Because you wanted to, and I quote, ‘do some breaking and entering again’.

DAWSON: Quiet.

Hamilton looks at the window.

HAMILTON: There doesn’t seem to be any security alarms here.

He opens the window.

HAMILTON: Window’s open, too. Man, these people suck at keeping people out.

WILL: How many people do you know that would try and break into a hospital, present company excepted.

SCOUT: Morphine junkies?

DAWSON: Or psychopaths with shotguns.

Will, Scout, and Hamilton turn to face him.

DAWSON: Long story.

Cut to the other side of the hospital, near the back door. Bella, Joey, Jake, and Pacey arrive, dressed normally.

PACEY: Shouldn’t we be wearing some kind of camouflage?

JOEY: Get real, Pacey. This isn’t the movies.

They get to the door. Pacey examines the lock.

PACEY: I think I can pick it.

JAKE: Are you serious?

PACEY: I learned to hotwire a car when I was 13. This is a walk in the park.

Cut to inside. The boys arrive at a locked fileroom.

DAWSON: Since none of us are hackers, I doubt we’ll be able to get into the computer files. That being the case, we need to have a look at the hard files.

WILL: Then lets get to it.

Will goes up to the door, gets out his student card, and slides it through the side of the door. It doesn’t work, and Will examines his now-bent card. The others start laughing.

WILL: Funny, it worked last time.

HAMILTON: You do realize that the keys were in the head office.

Hamilton tosses Scout the keys.

Cut to one of the offices in the hospital. The girls(and Pacey) are at the computer. Jake is typing, with the others standing over her shoulder.

JOEY: Any luck?

JAKE(normal voice): Just give me a little time.

Cut to the fileroom. The boys are looking through the files.

DAWSON: You know what? I just realized that I have absolutely no idea how to read blood charts. Do any of you?

WILL&SCOUT&HAMILTON: No

DAWSON: Then what are we doing here? If we’re going to find the answers, they’re not going to be here.

WILL: Let’s go before somebody catches us.

They try to leave, passing by the office. Just then, they see a light shining from the computer.

WILL: (quietly) Wait a second, somebody’s here.

Cut to inside the office.

JOEY: Everybody quiet, I thought I heard something.

Cut to outside the office. Dawson slowly sees a shiloette head to the door.

DAWSON: Hold it…

Cut to inside the office. Joey sees a man wearing black, but doesn’t see his face, and panics.

She tackles him. They struggle for a few minutes, but then both realize who the other one is.

JOEY: Dawson?

DAWSON: Joey? What are you doing here?

JOEY: I was about to ask you the same question.

Will, Scout, and Hamilton come in.

BELLA: Scout?

SCOUT: Bella?

HAMILTON: Jake?

JAKE(normal voice): Hamilton?

WILL: (disappointedly) Pacey.

PACEY: (angry)Krudski.

Dawson gets up and gets in between Will and Pacey.

PACEY: Stay out of this Dawson.

DAWSON: No, both of you calm down. I have a feeling we’re all here for the same reason, and I won’t let any petty fighting between you two to mess it up. So just relax.

Will and Pacey move to opposite sides of the room.

JOEY: You have any luck.

DAWSON: We tried the hard files, but none of us could read them.

PACEY: And you didn’t think of this beforehand. By the way, just why are we here in the first place. All Potter told me was that she needed to break into here.

WILL: We’re trying to help some friends of mine, Pacey.

PACEY: ‘Friends’, huh? I didn’t think you knew the concept.

WILL: Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black, Pacey.

JAKE(normal voice): Will the two of you just shut up so I can do this?

Pacey punches a nearby window in frustration.

Suddenly the alarm sounds. Everybody freezes. They then hear a voice from one of the other rooms.

GUARD: (off-camera) What the?

DAWSON: Run!!!

‘SUPERMAN’ BEGINS TO PLAY

(Dawson, Will, Joey, Bella, Hamilton, Jake, Scout, and Pacey (in that order) run out of the office and are at the end of the hall just as the security guard arrives)

So here I am

doing everything I can

holding on to what I am

pretending I'm a superman

WILL: This way.

(They turn the corner)

I'm trying to keep

the ground on my feet

it seems the world's

falling down around me

the nights are all long

I'm singing this song

to try and make the answers

more than maybe

(They all bound down the back staircase, while the guard lumbers after them)

and I'm so confused

about what to do

sometimes I want

to throw it all away

so here I am

growing older all the time

looking older all the time

feeling younger in my mind

and here I am

doing everything I can

holding on to what I am

pretending I'm a superman

SCOUT: What if he has a gun.

PACEY: Come on, this is a hospital. He can’t be that stupid.

(gunfire sounds, Pacey ducks, and a bullet hits a piece of brick a few feet above his head)

SCOUT: Apparently he can.

I'm trying to sleep

I lost count of sheep

my mind is racing faster

every minute

what could I do more

yeah I'm really not sure

I know I'm running circles

but I can't quit

and I'm so confused

about what to do

sometimes I want to

throw it all away

(They all run out the front door, and head towards the lawn.)

controlling everything in site

I'm feeling weak

I don't feel right

you're telling me

I have to change

telling me to act my age

but if all that I can do

is just sit and watch time go

then I'll have to say good bye

life's too short to watch it fly

so watch it fly

(They jump in a ditch)

so here I am

growing older all the time

looking older all the time

feeling younger in my mind

and here I am

doing everything I can

holding on to what I am

pretending I'm a superman

SONG ENDS

They slowly poke their heads up.

WILL: You think we lost him?

Cut to the next day. Dawson is in Will and Scout’s room.

SCOUT: Nothing. That’s what we found, nothing.

DAWSON: Listen, we can try again, it’s not the end yet.

SCOUT: It is for me. I might as well face it, me and Bella aren’t supposed to be together.

DAWSON: But it’s not fair.

WILL: News flash, Dawson. Life isn’t always fair. Maybe to you things work out in the end, but not to us. We don’t live in this ‘magical world near the creek’ like you seem to. Our lives are pretty hard.

DAWSON: How little you know of me. Do you think I have it easy? Trust me, I don’t. Remember when you were in Capeside last, the fighting between me and Pacey. Well, I didn’t win, I lost. And it took me a whole summer to put myself back together. And not because it didn’t hurt, because it hurt more than anything else I’ve ever experienced. No, I survived because I didn’t give up, I didn’t let my misery destroy me. Everyone gets hurt at some time or another, every singe one of us. And do you know what the trick is? We don’t let it defeat us, we fight, despite the pain and the misery we fight. That, and we know when to turn to our friends.

WILL: Sometimes it seems as if I don’t have any friends.

SCOUT: Excuse me? You have friends, Will. You have me and Bella, Hamilton, Jake, even Finn in some strange way. Just because you lost Pacey’s friendship doesn’t mean we’re not here for you.

WILL: I know that, I never said you weren’t. It’s just, well, ever since the fight with Sean, it’s seemed like a part of my past has been ripped away. With Pacey, there’s another part of it.

SCOUT: Why not just leave the past in the past.

DAWSON: You know, a little while ago, Joey said something similar to that. You know what I told her? That our pasts are what makes us who we are. Our achievements, our triumphs. Even our mistakes. Every single choice that we make decides who we are, what kind of person we are. And you know what, maybe I couldn’t do anything to help you and Bella, Scout. But I can do something to help Will.

Dawson begins to leave.

WILL: Wait a second, what did you mean by that? Where are you going?

Dawson turns around and smiles.

DAWSON: To solve a moral dilemma.

Dawson leaves.

Cut to outside. Jake and Hamilton are under a tree, talking, when Jen comes over.

JEN: There you are.

HAMILTON: Oh no, not this again.

JAKE(male voice): Listen, Jen, can’t you just please just give up. I am sick and tired of having to listen to you blame the school’s existence on me.

JEN: Can’t take a little criticism, huh. Typical male…

JAKE(normal voice): Okay, that’s it! Listen to me, I am not a guy, I am a girl. You know, female, like you. So I would appreciate it if you would just leave me alone and go bother someone else before I decide to use this information as an excuse to beat you up.

Jen’s jaw drops. Jake storms off, with Hamilton close behind her. Jen is still standing there, dumbfounded.

Cut to somewhere in New Rawley. We see Sean walking down the street when Dawson comes up to him.

DAWSON: Excuse me…Sean?

SEAN: Yeah? Do I know you?

DAWSON: Not officially, we met at the gas station a few days ago. Dawson Leery.

SEAN: Yeah, the ‘Capeside’ guy, right? You a friend of Bella’s?

DAWSON: Actually, I’m a friend of Will Krudski’s.

Sean turns to leave.

DAWSON: Wait a minute, hold on.

SEAN: I don’t want to talk about Will.

DAWSON: Funny, because I think that’s exactly what you are so upset about.

Sean quickly turns around.

SEAN: What do you know? You don’t know me.

DAWSON: You’re right, Sean. I don’t know you, but I do know anger. There’s a difference between when someone is angry about losing a girlfriend and when they’re angry over losing a friend. I’ve been through both. And by the way you’re acting, I can sense it’s the later.

Sean calms down.

SEAN: How much do you know? About what happened?

DAWSON: Scout pretty much told me everything, but I have the feeling he only told half the story.

SEAN: What’s your opinion of the guy?

DAWSON: He’s alright, but if I was in your shoes I would probably dislike him as well. But your problem is with him, not with Will.

SEAN: Will took his side on this, okay. His best friend since he moved here didn’t mean squat when compared to his new friends.

DAWSON: Just because he’s friends with Scout now, doesn’t mean that your friendship is any less important to him.

SEAN: That’s what it seems like to me. I mean, I lost Bella because of Scout, and Will just took his side right away. What exactly am I supposed to do?

DAWSON: Make a choice. What’s more important to you, your relationship with Bella, or your friendship with Will?

Dawson turns to walk away.

SEAN: Well, what would you do, Dawson? What would you do if you had to choose between the person you loved and your best friend?

Dawson turns around to face him.

DAWSON: I already had too, but there was a slight difference. They were both the same person.

SEAN: What did you do?

DAWSON: I told her to go with the other guy.

Sean looks surprised.

SEAN: Why?

DAWSON: Because that was what she wanted. And I love her so much that I would sacrifice anything to make her happy. Even if it’s not with me.

SEAN: I notice you used present tense.

DAWSON: Yeah, I did.

Dawson turns to leave again. Sean thinks for a moment, then stops him.

SEAN: Hey Dawson. There’s something I need to tell you…

Cut to the gas station. Joey is there with Bella when Will shows up.

WILL: Hi. Are you two all right from last night?

BELLA: We’re fine, just a little disappointed. Maybe if we would have had more time, Jake could have…

WILL: Wait a minute? One question. How did Joey know that Jake was a girl?

JOEY: Pacey let it slip.

WILL: He seems to do that a lot.

Suddenly, they hear a voice behind them.

SEAN: (off-camera) Umm…hi.

They all turn around and see Sean walking towards them.

WILL: (sadly) Hey Sean.

BELLA: Sean, just please leave me alone. I can’t deal with this right now.

SEAN: I’m not here to fight. I just thought I owed both of you an explanation.

Will and Bella look at him.

SEAN: A little while back, I tried to keep Scout as far away from you as possible. There was only one reason for this, jealousy.

BELLA: You were jealous of my brother?

SEAN: He’s not your brother.

BELLA: Just because Scout has a doubt about it…?

SEAN: No, because I know for a fact he’s not. About a week before we broke up, I went back to Carson to talk to your mom. I tried to talk her into fixing things with you, and sort of let the Scout situation slip up. Apparently, Senator Calhoun made the whole thing up because he hated your dad. Thought it was the perfect way to ‘get even’ with him.

BELLA: So my dad is my real dad?

SEAN: No, your real dad is in Carson with your mom, I met him. When I found out about this, I knew that you would want to be with Scout if you knew the truth. So I tried to get him as far away from you as possible. Thanks to that, I not only alienated you, but my best friend as well.

Sean turns to Will.

SEAN: From the way I treated you, it might as well have been you after Bella instead of Scout. And for what it’s worth, I’m sorry.

Bella is still in shock, but manages to speak.

BELLA: Why are you telling me this?

SEAN: Because I care about you, Bella. And I would rather see you happy with someone else than miserable and alone.

Bella smiles at him. Sean then goes up to Will.

SEAN: I don’t think I’ll ever get along with Scout Calhoun. For what it’s worth, I still think he’s a jerk. But I have to admit, he’s got good taste in friends. So what do you say, Krudski? Friends?

Will and Sean shake hands.

WILL: The best. And Sean…thank you.

SEAN: Don’t thank me, thank that Dawson guy. He sort of reminded me that there’s things a lot more important than getting the girl. I mean, what’s the use if you don’t have any friends to brag about it to.

Sean leaves.

Cut to Sean walking down the street. He passes a library and bumps into a girl walking out of it. The girl drops all her books and they both fall to the ground.

PAIGE: Hey! Watch where you’re going.

SEAN: Sorry, Miss…

Their eyes lock, but then they shake it off.

SEAN: Umm…here, let me help you with those.

Sean picks up her books.

PAIGE: That’s…um…really not necessary, Mr…

SEAN: Sean. My name’s Sean.

PAIGE: Paige Bennett. Pleased to meet you, Sean. Sorry about running into you, literally.

SEAN: No, it was my fault. I should have been watching where I was going.

PAIGE: Well, maybe I’ll see you around.

Paige leaves. Sean smiles to himself.

SEAN: Yeah, maybe.

Cut to inside Rawley Academy. Scout is talking to Jake and Hamilton.

SCOUT: You’re kidding me. You just went out and told her?

JAKE(normal voice): Well, the way things were going, someone would have eventually.

HAMILTON: I tell you, Scout. When Jake here gets mad, she gets mad.

JAKE(normal voice): Which is why you’d better not get me mad, buster.

HAMILTON: You’re beautiful when you’re feisty, you know that.

Ryder comes in and leans on the wall right beside the door..

RYDER: Well, well, if it isn’t the bloody brat pack. So, where’s Mr. Esteves hiding himself?

JAKE(male voice): Get lost, Ryder.

RYDER: Why don’t you yanks make me?

Suddenly, Dawson rushes through the door, slamming it open right on Ryder’s face.

DAWSON: Scout? Are you in here?

Dawson doesn’t notice the unconscious Ryder slowly fall to the floor. Hamilton and Jake try to hold back laughter.

SCOUT: What is it, Dawson?

DAWSON: I’ve got great news. You and Bella, you aren’t related.

Scout’s jaw drops.

SCOUT: How…where did you hear this?

DAWSON: Sean told me. Apparently Bella’s mother told him. That’s why he attacked you in the first place.

SCOUT: Are you sure it was really Sean?

DAWSON: He called you a self-righteous jerk.

HAMILTON: It was the real Sean. But why would he tell you this?

SCOUT: Who cares why. The point is now I can…

Scout sits down in a chair.

SCOUT: I have absolutely no idea what to do now. I mean…I’ve got to talk to Bella.

Ryder starts to stand up, but Will comes in, also slamming the door in his face.

WILL: Hey guys. Did you hear…

DAWSON: I just told them.

WILL: Thanks Dawson. I owe you one.

SCOUT: What am I going to do? I have to talk to her, but when, where, how?

DAWSON: Don’t mind ‘mumbles’ over there. I’ve got just the thing.

Dawson pulls out a flyer out of his pocket, advertising a dance.

DAWSON: I’m going to call Joey. We’re going to the dance tonight.

‘I DON’T WANT TO WAIT’ STARTS PLAYING

So open up your morning light,
And say a little prayer for I.
you know that if we are to stay alive.
Then see the peace in every eye.

SCOUT: What are we going to do there.

(Dawson smiles)

DAWSON: Organize a happy ending.

(Cut to Bella’s house. Pacey arrives and Joey starts explaining something to him)

She had two babies.

One was six months,

one was three
In the war of '44.

(Cut to Rawley Academy. Dawson, Scout, Will, Hamilton, and Jake are all wearing tuxedoes. Dawson turns to Jake, a ‘you’ve got to be kidding’ look on his face.

Every telephone ring,

every heartbeat stinging
When she thought it was God calling her.

JAKE(normal voice): You know what they say, ‘When in Rome’.

Oh would her son grow to know his father?

(Dawson smirks)

(Cut to Bella’s house. Her and Joey are dressed up for the dance. Just then, there is a knock at the door)

I don't want to wait for our lives to be over,
I want to know right now what will it be.

(Joey opens the door. There stands Pacey, wearing a tux.)

PACEY: Hey, ladies. Are we ready to party?

I don't want to wait for our lives to be over,

(Cut to the street. Dawson leads the group, consisting of Scout, Will, Hamilton, and Jake, towards the hall where the dance is.)

Will it be yes or will it be sorry?

(As soon as they go in, Joey, Bella, and Pacey arrive as well.)

He showed up all wet on the rainy front step.
Wearing shrapnel in his skin.

(They go in, and Pacey sees Will. Will sees him, but doesn’t seem angry this time.)

And the war he saw lives inside him still,
It's so hard to be gentle and warm.
The years pass by and now he has granddaughters

THE SONG STOPS

Pacey walks over to Will.

PACEY: Listen, Krudski. I think it’s time to settle this, once and for all.

WILL: You’re right, Pacey. But not for the reason you think.

PACEY: You know what, Will…

WILL: She loves you, Pacey.

Pacey is surprised at this outburst.

PACEY: What?

WILL: Andie loves you. I wish things were different, but they’re not. She wants to be with you, and there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. So hate me, if you want. But don’t hate her.

Will starts to walk away.

PACEY: Hey, Krudski?

Will turns around.

WILL: Yeah?

PACEY: Thanks, pal.

Will smiles.

Andie arrives with Jack and Jen. Andie sees Pacey, and their eyes connect.

Cut to somewhere else on the floor. Scout and Bella see each other, then walk over to one another and start dancing.

SONG STARTS AGAIN

You look at me from across the room
You're wearing your anguish again

BELLA: Did you hear…

SCOUT: Yeah, I did.

Believe me I know the feeling
It sucks you into the jaws of anger.

SCOUT: So what do you want to do now?

BELLA: I don’t know. What do you want to do?

So breathe a little more deeply my love
All we have is this very moment

SCOUT: I had planned this moment in my head dozens of times. What I was going to say, what I was going to do. But now that it’s happened, all I want to do is kiss you.

And I don't want to do what his father,
and his father, and his father did,

(Bella smiles)

BELLA: I thought you’d never ask.

I want to be here now.

(They kiss)

(Cut to the other side of the floor. Pacey and Andie walk up to each other and start dancing)

So open up your morning light,
And say a little prayer for I

(They hug)

ANDIE: I am so sorry, Pacey.

PACEY: Yeah, I’m sorry too.

You know that if we are to stay alive,
Then see the love in every eye.

(Cut to another part of the floor. Dawson and Joey look each other in the eyes and smile.)

JOEY: Well, you did it.

DAWSON: We did it. Trust me when I say this Jo. What happened tonight would not have been possible without you.

Joey half-smiles.

JOEY: Thanks…So, you want to dance?

DAWSON: Why not?

I don't want to wait for our lives to be over,
I want to know right now what will it be.
I don't want to wait for our lives to be over,
Will it be yes or will it be sorry?

So open up your morning light,
And say a little prayer for I
You know that if we are to stay alive,
Then see the love in every eye.

SONG ENDS

HAMILTON: You want to know something strange?

JAKE(normal voice): What?

HAMILTON: We are the closest thing to a normal couple in this entire room.

Jake thinks for a minute.

JAKE(normal voice): That is strange.

They chuckle.

Will watches Pacey and Andie dance. He sighs, then quickly leaves. Joey and Dawson are the only people who see him leave.

Cut to Rawley Academy. Will is sitting on the dock, throwing stones into the water.

DAWSON: (off-camera) Not in the partying mood?

Will turns his head, and sees Joey and Dawson walking towards him.

WILL: Nope. No one to party with.

JOEY: Listen, Will. You did the right thing.

WILL: I know. I just don’t understand why this happens to me. Why do I have to be alone?

DAWSON: Both me and Joey are in the same boat, Will.

Will looks at Dawson, then at Joey.

WILL: Oh really. Well tell me this, how do you handle it? How can you possibly handle every one around you being happy but you?

DAWSON: I really don’t know. I guess…it’s because of hope. Call me the eternal optimist, but I believe everything that happens to any of us, happens for a reason.

Joey and Dawson sit down on the dock and sit beside him. All three of them look out at the water.

WILL: You know what, Dawson? You were right about one thing.

DAWSON: What’s that?

WILL: The sunrise on the water, the docks, the small town. It really is quite a sight.

V.O.(Will): Does everything that happens to us really have a reason behind it? I think so, just not for me. Everywhere I look, I see people who belong together.

Cut to behind a wall at the dance. We see Jake and Hamilton kissing. Andie arrives with Jack and sees it. Jake and Hamilton break apart.

ANDIE: Oh god!

Scout, Bella, Pacey, and Jen show up just in time to see their reactions.

SCOUT&BELLA&PACEY&JEN: JAKE IS A GIRL!

ANDIE&JACK: Ohhhh.

Jake rolls her eyes.

V.O.(Will): There’s Jake and Hamilton, there’s Pacey and Andie, there’s Scout and Bella.

It then cuts back to the dock, showing Will, Dawson, and Joey.

V.O.(Will): And then there’s Dawson and Joey. You see any of these couples together, and you just know that they should never be with anyone else. They seem to complete each other, they understand each other, they make each other whole…they’re meant to be. I’ve heard that a person like that is called a ‘soulmate’. But maybe not everybody has one. Maybe just a lucky few know what it’s like? Or maybe not. Maybe there really is someone for everyone.

Cut to across the lake. Caroline is staring at Will from across the dock, and smiling.

V.O.(Will): Who knows? Maybe for me too.

Fade to black

End credits.
