Thank you for visiting my page at Angelfire. Please come back and visit agRumors Part 1 Written By: LeeryAndPotter at LeeryAndPotter@hotmail.com Disclaimer: Dawson, Joey, Pacey, Jen, and a surprise guest star are the property of Kevin Williamson and the WB network. I don’t own them, so please don’t sue. Category: Season 1 D/J Rating: PG-13, basically, if you can watch the show, you can read this. Spoilers: Takes place instead of "In The Company Of Men". What would have happened if the rumor would have been about Dawson instead of Warren. Editors Note: This is the fanfic version of a "what-if" story (I don’t know what they’re called in fanfic). Meaning, I can do anything I want. HA HA HA HA(LeeryAndPotter shaking off newfound god complex). Don’t be surprised if any out of the ordinary stuff happens. Cut to English class. We see a close-up of Pacey Witter, who is looking very bored. PETERSON: Greetings students. Surprisingly, you’ve all managed to arrive today. So we might as well dispense with the formalities and just assign today’s work. That way I can go back to my desk and not have to converse with people of lesser intelligence. PACEY: (muttering)Jerk. PETERSON: Excuse me, Mr. Witter. Do you have something you wish to share with the rest of us? Every person in the class looks in Pacey’s direction. Pacey just grins. PACEY: (sarcastically)Of course not. You know me, Mr. Peterson. So mind of my own. PETERSON: Well, I would really like to know what it is about my teaching methods that makes you so…uncomfortable. PACEY: Maybe if you’d just stop insulting the rest of us all the time, we’d get the chance to show you we’re not as dumb as you think. PETERSON: Correct me if I’m wrong, but the last time I checked you were failing 3 of your classes, including this one. Am I right? The class laughs at him. All except a blonde-haired girl sitting at the front. She seems like she feels sorry for him. PETERSON: Mr. Witter, for the rest of the semester you will sit up at the front row so I can hear you more clearly. After all, laughter is the best medicine…and you make me sick. Pacey gets out of his desk and moves to the front of the class. He sits down at the desk next to the blonde-haired girl. Cut to the school hallway. Dawson enters with Joey. People are staring at them, but they don’t notice. Dawson sees Jen, and they walk towards her. JOEY: (to Dawson) Don’t do anything stupid. DAWSON: You know me. JOEY: Yeah, that’s what I’m afraid of. JEN: Umm…hey. DAWSON: (sadly) Jen… JEN: Listen, I think we have to talk about a few things. Jen has a worried look on her face. She looks over at Joey, then at Dawson. JEN: Listen, I’ve heard some things around school, and I just need to know that you’re okay. DAWSON: Okay? JEN: That our break-up didn’t push you into doing anything…desperate. DAWSON: Oh, that’s just great. You’re feeling guilty because I’m upset? JEN: There’s upset and then there’s "upset". Trust me, I know what it’s like. DAWSON: Do you? JEN: Yeah, I’ve been "upset" like that dozens of times, and maybe it would do you some good to talk about it with a friend. DAWSON: Friend? Is that what you consider yourself to be, Jen. Because I’ve always considered my friends to be people I could trust. And you know what? For some reason I can’t seem to trust you. JEN: Dawson… DAWSON: Don’t, Jen. Just don’t. Okay, for now on I really don’t want anything to do with you. Dawson walks away, with Joey following. Jen watches them go, sadly. Cut to Pacey walking down the hallway after class. Suddenly, we see the blonde girl from earlier start to follow him. GIRL: Wait up. Pacey slows down a little so the girl can catch up. GIRL: Umm…Pacey…right? PACEY: Mm-hmm. GIRL: I was sitting next to you in class. I just wanted to say that I feel Mr. Peterson treated you very unfairly and you deserved better. Pacey looks surprised. PACEY: Thanks. I’m used to the insults. On the other hand, this is the first time anyone’s ever worried about my ego afterward. What’s the catch? GIRL: No catch. I’m new in town, just moved here, so I thought it would be good to make some friends. PACEY: You’re also the first person to actually say something like that out loud to someone you just met. You don’t happen to write your name on your books too? Pacey grabs her books. GIRL: Hey, I’ll have you know it’s very easy to loose books in the hallways. Pacey looks at the books, which actually do have names written on them. PACEY: Well miss…"Andrea McPhee"…thank you for caring. ANDIE: Call me "Andie", okay. That’s Andie with a "ie" not "y". I guess it’s kind of confusing. I mean "Andie" could be either a guy or girl’s name. PACEY: Remind me to introduce you to a girl named "Joey". They walk into the cafeteria. ANDIE: So, what is there to do for fun around here? PACEY: Man, you are new around here. Okay, allow me to explain something. In Capeside, fun is non-existence. This town is boring. We make our own fun. ANDIE: Like what? PACEY: Well, for example, rumors. ANDIE: Rumors? PACEY: Yeah, making them up, spreading them, finding out if they’re true or not. ANDIE: Are they? PACEY: Sometimes. Other times they’re just made up so the rest of us can think that there’s actually something interesting going on here. Pacey and Andie turn around and see a group of people talking. BOY: I’m dead serious… BOY # 2: I thought they were friends… GIRL: …heard he broke up with his girlfriend… SENIOR GIRL: …bound to happen eventually… BOY: …Warren saw them… Pacey grins. ANDIE: Would this be one of those "rumors" you were talking about? Pacey grabs her by the arm and drags her over to the crowd of people. PACEY: Hey guys, what’s up? BOY: Witter? Buzz off. PACEY: Whoa, just here to grab a little gossip. No need to get defensive about it. BOY: Trust me, looser. This is none of your… GIRL: Hey, wait a minute? Don’t you know that guy? PACEY: Who? GIRL: Dawson Leery. PACEY: What about him? BOY # 2: What can you tell us about him and his little girlfriend? PACEY: Don’t you mean "ex-girlfriend"? Him and Jen broke up. BOY # 2: Not Lindley, the other one. The moody brunette. PACEY: Joey? Ha ha. You’ve got to get a fact check, pal. Jo’s not his "girlfriend". They’re just friends. Everyone but Pacey and Andie snicker. BOY # 1: Wish I had a "friend" like that. PACEY: Okay, what’s so funny? GIRL: Apparently these so-called "best friends" aren’t as platonic as they’d have us believe. PACEY: What’s that supposed to mean? BOY # 2: Abby Morgan caught them going at it last night. And I don’t mean arguing. Pacey almost falls backwards when he hears this. His eyes go wide and his jaw drops. PACEY: W-w-w-wait a minute. You mean to tell me that they…you’re saying they…you know… BOY # 2: Yep. PACEY: You’re willing to just take Abby’s word for it? GIRL: Warren saw them too. Trust me, I was as shocked as you are. Of all the girls in Capeside High, why her? I guess beggars can’t be choosers. Everyone walks away, leaving behind Pacey and Andie. Pacey just stands there, still in shock The camera goes in for a close-up of his face. CUT TO COMMERCIAL Wow. Didn’t see that one coming, did ya Pace? Next, Dawson and Joey find out about the rumor. What’s their reactions? Why is Joey upset with Dawson because of it? Why does Pacey blame himself? And why is the new girl, Andie, following Pacey around everywhere he goes? Stay tuned.
