When a Long Beach detective is found murdered in Los Angeles, Chase and August are assigned the case. Det. Kevin Riley is not pleased that his partner's murder is being handled by someone else, nor with his captain's orders to cooperate. The two had been investigating a series of robberies, and Riley thinks they might have started to get close to the person responsible, and his partner was killed as a result. He reluctantly teams up with Chase and August to solve the case, and what is ultimately discovered is the most incredible and out-landish situation the detectives have ever encountered in their careers. Meanwhile, James is spotted with a mysterious woman and seems secretive about who she is.
