No Fight is Good

Parker was in the kitchen going through the cabinets, searching for food. Jarod walked in and grabbed his wife to give her hug.

"Hi honey." He kissed her.

"Hey."

"What are you doing?"

"I'm hungry but I can't find what I want."

Jarod patted her on the butt when she bent over. "Are you gaining some weight?"

She glared at him and walked out.

Jarod chased after her. "Honey, I didn't mean anything bad by it." He sat down beside her on the couch.

She looked up at him, with tears rolling down her face.

"Honey, I don't care if you gain weight or not. In fact, I think you should gain a little weight, even if you get as big as this house. I will still love you."

"Jarod..."

"Shhh...I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings." He wiped her tears.

*******

Parker sat on the exam table waiting for the doctor. Looking at her watch for the hundredth time she let out a frustrated sigh. The door opened and a woman in a long white lab jacket entered the room.

"Hey, Melissa I see you are here for you depo-provera shot. Is that right?"

"Yes."

The woman looked through her file and took a seat on the stool. "I see you are eight weeks late for your injection."

"I know. I have been very busy lately. I have been busy with Legacy and my father came into town."

"How's that going?"

"Fine." Parker answered wanting to hurry up and get out of there.

"We have to do a pregnancy test before I can give you your next injection. Have you had protected sex since your last shot?"

"Yes."

"Okay, then I need you to leave a urine specimen in the bathroom." The doctor handed her a cup.

Parker took the cup and came back shortly waiting for the doctor to return again. It wasn't long until the door opened and she walked in.

"Melissa, I can't give you your injection."

"Why is there a problem?"

"Yes, you're pregnant."

"I'm....what?" The color left Parker's face before she could say anything else.

"Pregnant." The doctor said again.

Parker's hand went over her mouth as she jumped off the table and made a mad dash into the bathroom. The female doctor stood outside the door a few minutes before knocking.

"Are you okay?"

There was no answer.

She knocked again when Parker opened the door.

"Melissa, are you okay?"

"I'll be fine." She answered as she slowly walked back into the exam room.

The doctor followed her in.

"I can't believe I'm pregnant. I'm going to kill Jarod for this. He knows how I feel...." Parker kept mumbling as the doctor placed her hand on her shoulder. She looked up with tears falling from her eyes. "That one night. It had to be that one night."

"Melissa..."

"I'm fine."

She looked at her again as if she didn't believe her.

"I'm fine really. I'll be okay."

The doctor turned her back to grab her file. "I want you to come back in two weeks for a full exam. I want you to go a head and get this filled." She wrote out a prescription. She turned around to hand Parker the paper. Parker was still looking down at the table. She hit it with her fist.

"Melissa...."

"What?" she snapped.

"I want to see you in two weeks and..."

"And get this filled. I know."

*******

The door opened and Parker roared through like a tornado.

"Jarod!" She yelled as she stormed up the stairs.

She entered the bedroom door to find him sitting on the bed going over some more plans for their future.

"Hey, you're home."

"Yeah, I'm home." She snapped as she paced the floor.

"Honey, sit down."

"Sit down! I can't sit down."

"What's wrong?"

She threw a pill bottle at him.

"What's this?"

"You'll the genius. Figure it out!" Her voice got louder.

Jarod picked it up and read the label.

"Jarod, you knew how I felt about this."

He took a deep breathe and smiled. "We're going to have another baby."

"Yes, we're going to have another baby. You knew I didn't want another one. Three is enough." She demanded.

"I'm....I don't what to say."

She stood there staring at him. He could see the steam rolling off of her.

"Honey..." He stood up from the bed and reached for her.

She pulled away quickly, with tears falling. "Don't honey me!" She turned and walked out.

Jarod ran after her but decided to stop when the door slammed in his face. "I will let her cool off a bit." He thought as he headed back up the stairs.

Parker entered the front doors of Legacy after driving around for a while. She was greeted by Broots.

"David in shipping said he has a delivery for you."

"I didn't order anything." She snapped.

"Jarod did."

"Then send it back." She replied angerly as she looked up at Broots.

"Are you okay?" He saw her red swollen eyes.

"I'm fine." She walked off.

"Mel...Melissa wait." He caught up with her.

"What Broots? I..DON'T..HAVE..ALL..DAY!"

"It has already been delivered."

"Fine." She opened her office door and stopped in the doorway as she stared at all the flowers. She saw every kind and color there was.

"That's what I....was....trying....to tell you." He quickly left.

Parker walked into her office, carefully touching and smelling every flower. Her phone rang, "What?"

"Did you get the flowers?"

"Yes but don't think you are off the hook."

"I just wanted you to know how much I love you."

There was silence on the other end.

"Melissa....Melissa. Are you there?"

"Yeah, I'm still here."

"Have you read the card yet?"

"No, I just got here." She picked up a card that was laying on her desk.

"I...I just..."

"What Jarod?"

"Just read the card. I'll talk to you later." He hung up the phone.

Opening the card, Parker threw it down after reading it. "Damn it, Jarod."

The door open slightly as Simone knocked. "May I come in?"

"Sure." Parker wiped her face with her hand.

"I ran into Broots out in the hall."

"Remind me to apologize to him."

"Wow, nice flowers."

"Did you want something?"

"Oh...Kate is improving some. She wants to know if her parents can come visit."

"What's today?"

"Thursday."

"Isn't she going home tomorrow for the weekend?"

"I think so."

"Sure when she finishes up today just let her parents take her home and bring her back Monday."

"I will call them."

Simone sat there for a moment, "Well...I guess..."

"I'm pregnant." Parker blurred out.

"I don't know what to say. I know you didn't want more. Did you change your mind?"

"No. I didn't."

"What are you going to do?"

"I don't know. 'Kill Jarod' comes to mind."

"So you haven't really talked."

"No. Please don't tell anyone. I don't know what I'm going to do yet."

"Your secret is safe with me."

*******

Later in the afternoon

Broots stuck his head in. "You wanted to see me."

"Yeah, Broots...about earlier...I'm sorry. I just had a bad morning. I didn't mean to take it out on you."

"It's okay. I figured you and Jarod had another fight."

"Right again." She mumbled.

"What do you say we go something to eat?"

"I'm not really hungry. Besides, I have something to take care of. I'm getting ready to leave."

"I hope everything is...okay."

"Fine. I'll catch you tomorrow."

Broots left and Parker wasn't far behind him.

******

Jarod stared out the glass door at Parker. He watched her walk back and forth on the beach before sitting down in the sand. She could feel his eyes watching her. He wanted to talk to her but decided she would come to him when the time was right. So, he stood there and watched her.

"Daddy."

"Kyle."

"Where is mama?"

"Out there." He pointed toward the beach. "Whatcha need?"

"I wanted a cookie but I can't reach them and the last time..."

"I'll get you one. I'm glad you remembered the last time."

"How could I forget? I got in trouble."

"You shouldn't climb on the cabinets. You could..."

"I know, I could fall."

Jarod handed him a cookie.

"Thanks." He smiled before leaving.

Angelo walked in. "Jarod."

"Angelo. Can I get you something?"

"No. Melissa mad."

"Yeah, she's mad."

"Go talk to her."

"I think I better let her cool off." He went back to the door and saw she had moved. He couldn't find her anywhere.

"Go." Angelo said again.

"Thanks." He opened the door and saw her opening the gate. She didn't say anything, just took a seat in the chair.

"Melissa."

"Shh.."

"But..."

"Jarod, let me go first." He sat down next to her. "I'm not happy about this but as much as I hate to admit it this child was created from love, our love." She looked over at him.

"So, we are going to keep it."

"I was never going to get rid of it."

"But I thought..."

"You think too much."

He took her hand. "I love you."

"Jarod, I love you too but I'm still mad. I need some time, okay."

"Take all the time you need." He kissed her on the forehead as he got up to leave. "Dinner will be ready soon."

"I'll be there in a minute."

He went back inside and stared back at her one last time before finding the kids.

Two weeks later

Parker sat on the exam table waiting for the doctor.

"Melissa, I see you did come back."

"I told you I would."

She looked through her chart. "You said you had your blood work up done this morning, right?"

"Yeah."

"Let me see if I can find it. I'll be right back."

The doctor returned shortly, "Well..it seems the lab is having problems with it. What do you say we go ahead and do the exam? Then I should have the results back."

After the exam, Parker waited for the doctor to return. "Did Jarod come with you?" she asked as she entered the room.

"No, we are not exactly speaking. Why?"

"I got your results back. I want to do an ultrasound. I think we should call Jarod."

"Why is something wrong?"

"No, not really."

"Then...."

"I would feel better if we called him. Your bladder is not full enough for the ultrasound. I'm going to let you get dressed and drink some water. I will check on you in a minute. What do you say?"

"Fine. Do you want me to call him?"

"No, I can do it. Is he at home?"

"I'm not sure but he will answer at this number." Parker wrote down his cell phone number and handed it to her.

"Thanks. You can have seat in the waiting room when you are finished."

She left Parker to dress.

******

"Nicholas, can you cover here for me? Something has come up."

"Sure, Jarod. It's nothing bad, I hope."

"No. I just have to get somewhere. This is James and we were working on the structures of Ions."

Jarod took off before anything else could be said.

*******

"I'm Jarod Russell and I got a call that my wife was here."

"What is her name, sir?"

"Melissa."

"She's in room 5."

"Thanks."

"It is the third one on the right."

"Thank you."

He walked down the hall and opened the door. "Melissa."

"Jarod, I see you found us." The doctor replied.

"Is everything okay?" He rushed to his wife's side.

"Everything is fine. We are going to do an ultrasound."

"Oh good. I didn't know what was going on when your office called me."

"Let me get the lights and we will begin."

Jarod bent down closer to Parker's face.

"Are you okay?"

She shook her head yes.

"You had me worried."

"I'm fine." She told him.

The doctor started the ultrasound. "I thought I was right."

"What?" They looked at her.

"Well...according to that lab work you beta level was too high for you to be not every far along."

"Look, honey." Jarod stared at the monitor.

"I see two heart beats." The doctor responded.

"Two!" They shouted.

"Look here." She circled one at the bottom of the screen with her finger. Then pointed above for the other one.

"Twins. We can't have twins."

"Well.. it looks like it to me. You are going to have twins."

"Wait a minute." Parker raised up. "I'm a twin and I know I can't have twins. It's just not right."

"Well, normally I would agree with you but sometimes your ovaries release more than one egg due to fact that you are older than you used to be and you were taking birth control."

"I'm going to kill you, Jarod."

"Calm down." He reached for her hand again. She pulled away and placed her arm behind her head as she laid back down. They stared at the screen.

"Do you want a picture?"

"Yeah." Jarod answered excitedly.

The doctor turned the lights back on. "I would say according to this, the lab results, and by the exam you are six weeks."

"Oh great." Parker said to herself.

******

The next morning Parker entered her office in a foul mood. She wasn't happy about being pregnant again and she definitely wasn't happy about having twins. Broots followed her in. Little did he know he was going to be her first victim for the day.

"Melissa, can I ask you something?"

"What is Broots? I'm really not in the mood."

"It won't take long."

"Spit it out!"

"Man, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning." He whispered.

"What?!"

"Uh....nothing."

"The question?" She stood there staring at him.

"The question?...oh yeah...do you think Debbie could spend the night with you tonight? Because...."

"Sure."

"Really?"

"I don't care."

"Good."

"You look relieved about something. What have you done?"

"Done....nothing."

"Broots!"

"Okay, I asked Simone out. I told her that Debbie was not going to be home and I didn't want to have dinner alone."

"You lied!"

"Well...no, actually she is going to be at your house."

"Yeah, but you didn't know that until now."

"I figured you would say yes. By the way, what is wrong with you?"

"Nothing. Why?" She took her seat behind the desk.

"Because the only time you would get in a foul mood like this is when Jarod didn't call or when you were pregnant."

She didn't say a word.

"And I know it couldn't be Jarod....you're pregnant, aren't you?" He took a step closer.

"No!" She yelled. "I'm not pregnant." She lowered her voice.

"Melissa...."

Jarod walked in. "Hi honey. Are you in a better mood now?"

"Jarod." Broots smiled. "She's pregnant, isn't she?"

He looked over at her. "Well...."

"Okay, Broots. I'm pregnant but I don't want everybody to know yet."

"I knew it."

She gave him a 'go to hell' look.

"Your secret is safe with me."

"It better be or I will tell Simone..."

"It is. It is. I promise." He interrupted her. "When are you going to tell everybody?"

"Soon I hope...." Jarod said.

"I don't know." Parker added.

"Well, I better get going. Talk to you later." Broots exited.

Jarod walked over to his wife, bent down to kiss her when she pulled away. "Melissa..."

"What?"

He stood there staring down at her.

"I'm still mad."

"Fine. When you decide to cool off, you know where to find me." He walked out.

Parker looked down at her desk and a picture of her kids caught her attention. She sat there looking at it then touched her stomach. "More babies." she mumbled as she sat back in her chair.

The End!
