Grand opening
By: G. Barton

Parker stood by the doorway, looking in at Legacy.

"Well, what do you think?" she asked Simone.

"It looks great."

"Yeah," Broots responded.

"But something is missing," Jarod remarked.

"What?" she asked.

"This." He held up two pictures, one of her mother and the other of Sydney.

"Where should we put them?" Nicholas asked.

"How about over here?" Parker stated as she looked at the wall by the front doors.

"That looks great," Broots said as he held up one photo.

"I'll get the hammer and nails." Sam left and returned shortly.

"What do you think Mom?" Nicholas turned to Michelle.

"I think he, both of them, would be proud."

"I miss him," Nicholas said as they hung the pictures.

"We all do," Jarod added.

They stood back and admired the photos.

"Well, you know this is going to take time," Parker said.

Broots looked over at her.

"To earn the trust of these people, since the Centre ruined so many people's lives," Parker whispered.

"I know but we can do it," Jarod assured them.

******

Kristen walked into a house.

"Mom, I did it. I'm in."

"You know I don't like this idea," the older woman said as she sat down next to her.

"I know Mom but there is no other way." Kristen pulled off the blonde hair wig.

"What if something happens to you? You know I can't live if I lose another child."

"Mom, nothing is going to happen to me."

"You don't know that."

"I'll be careful. I promise."

"You don't know these people, they're bad."

"Mom, everything is going to be okay. I promise."

******

"Kristen, can you come in here for a minute?" Parker hit the intercom button.

"Be right there."

Kristen walked in, "What did you need?"

"I need you to run this down to Simone's office before you leave today."

"Okay." She took the envelope and left.

******

Jarod sat in a small room tapping at a keyboard. The door open and Catherine walked in.

"Daddy, what are you doing?"

"I'm working on something."

"What is it?" she asked as she took the chair beside him.

"Well, it has something to do with genetics."

"Genetics. Cool. Can I help?"

"Well....actually you might. But I don't think Mommy will go along with it."

"Why?"

"We've had a discussion about this earlier and she didn't agree with me."

"You had a fight."

Jarod looked up from the computer and over to her, "Yeah."

"What do you need?"

"Well, I took a sample of my blood and broke it down in these pieces." He showed her a 3D figure on the screen.

"And you need another blood sample?"

"Yeah but your mother wouldn't give me one."

"Why?"

"It's a long story."

"I have time."

"You might have time but I don't."

She looked at her father, confused.

"Mom will be here in a minute to take us home."

"Oh. Then we don't have much time."

"Much time for what?" he keyed some more.

"Take a sample from me."

Jarod quickly raised up, "What?"

"Daddy, you said you needed another sample and Mom won't give you one."

"I know but..." "I don't know. I really need one from your mother."

"Why?"

"I'm trying to see what makes us so different."

"Different?" she asked.

"I have a gift and I think she does too."

"Well..dad if you have it and Mom may have it then I probably have it."

"I know."

"So then take a blood sample from me."

He looked up at her again, "I don't think your mother is going to approve of this."

"Whose going to tell?"

Jarod paused for a minute. "Well....I would like to see what makes us different." He grabbed his supplies. "Okay, but you don't tell Mom. I will when the time is right."

"Okay." She watched as he gathered up a butterfly needle and tubes.

Jarod held pressure on her arm after drawing her blood. Then filled the purple and red top tubes.

*****

Jarod and Catherine met Parker in her office.

"Are you ready?"

"Yeah." Parker gathered her things.

After arriving at home, Parker headed up the stairs. Jarod looked through the refrigerator. "What do you say we have pizza?" he asked the kids.

They quickly agreed with him.

"Okay, you decide on what kind. I will be back." Jarod went up the stairs and saw Parker laying across the bed.

"What's wrong?" he asked as he sat down beside her.

"I'm tired."

"We are going to order pizza. What kind so you want?"

"I don't care. I'm not that hungry."

He laid down beside her, "Are you sure there's nothing bothering you?"

"Yeah," she sighed.

"I tell you what, you rest while the pizza is on it's way and afterwards we can take a long hot bath to make you feel better."

"We, huh?"

"Yeah. I know just how to make you feel better."

"You do huh?"

"Yep. A hot, relaxing bath with your husband."

"I tell you what, you call me when the pizza arrives and then we will discuss that bath."

He smiled, "Okay." He jumped up and went downstairs.

*****

A while later, Jarod entered their bedroom.

"Honey, where are you?"

"I'm in here," Parker answered from the bathroom.

Jarod opened the door to see her sitting in the tub full of bubbles. She had candles lit and a glass of red wine in her hand.

"What are you doing? I thought you were going to wait on me," he whined.

"I got tired of waiting."

Jarod stood there staring at her.

"Well, are you going to join me or just stand there?"

He quickly pulled his shirt and jeans off. He climbed in facing her.

"Wine," she replied handing him a glass.

"Thanks. I guess you are feeling better."

"A little." She sat back against the tub. "What are the kids doing?"

"Watching a movie." Jarod ran his hand over her legs.

"Let me guess, Toy Story?"

"How did you know?" He smiled.

"Because we have only watched it 500 times."

"I think more than that."

He grabbed her ankle and pulled her closer to him.

"Jarod, what do you think you are doing?"

"First, I'm going to kiss you. Then..."

"Then what?" she asked as his lips touched hers.

"Then...whatever else comes to mind." He lips still touching hers as he answered.

She wrapped her arms around his neck as he deepen the kiss. He lips then left hers and moved down her neck.

"Jarod, wait." "I don't think we should..." she lost the words as his lips continued moving southward.

"Should what?" He kissed her neck again.

"Not do this."

"Why?"

"Because."

"I need a better answer than that."

"One, the kids are just down stairs and second..."

"That hasn't stopped us before."

"And second, I'm still not over our little fight last week."

"Give me a minute and you will forget the fight." His fingers found their way to her inner thigh.

She kissed him before pulling away.

"Okay. Let's just soak." He turned around and leaned against her body as she laid against the back of tub again.

She wrapped her arms and legs around his body. "Jarod."

"Mmm."

"What happened to us?"

"What do you mean what happened to us?"

"Well...we have done nothing but fight this last week."

He placed his arms over hers and rubbed back and forth on them.

"I don't know. I guess we are trying to keep our marriage....alive."

"What?" she laughed.

"I don't know. It just sounded right at the moment."

There was a moment of silence.

"Our water got cold," she replied.

"Let's get out."

*****

Jarod sat on the bed, waiting for his wife to return.

"What was it this time?" he asked as she returned.

"The same thing it all ways is."

"Oh....are they in bed?"

"Yes, they are." Parker responded as she joined him on the bed.

"Lay down and I will give you a back massage."

"You will?" Parker asked as she removed her robe and laid down on the bed.

Jarod started with her shoulders and worked his way down her back.

"Jarod?"

"Yeah."

"I miss your massages."

His hands moved to the middle of her back and back up. He leaned down closer to her as they went down her side and back up, stopping at her breast.

"Jarod, I don't think that is my back."

"I know," he answered as he kissed the back of her neck.

She rolled over to where their faces were inches apart. She stared into his brown eyes, giving in to his wants. She pulled him closer to her face as she kissed him.

*****

The next morning the alarm went off. She reached for it but Jarod's arms had her pinned down. As she moved to free her arm, Jarod grunted as he rolled off of her.

She got ready and bent down to give him a good-bye kiss.

His eyes opened, "Where are you going?"

"I'm going to get the kids ready for school. Are you going to sleep all day?"

"Only if you will stay with me."

"As much as I would love to, I can't."

"Why?"

"I have a new client coming today." She kissed him before leaving his side.

*****

Parker walked into her office. She shortly joined by Nicholas.

"Melissa."

"Yeah." She looked up.

"I have this one kid that I have been working with but he is not opening up to me that well. Do you think Jarod would help me?"

"Yeah. I'm sure he would be more than happy to."

"Is he coming in later?"

"I don't know. I left him in bed. Call and wake him up."

"You don't think he will mind, do you?"

"No. If you like I'll call and get him up."

"That's okay. I'll call in a few minutes. I think your new appointment is here."

"Okay."

He exited out as Kristen entered.

"The Jenkins are here."

"Okay, bring them in."

*****

Kristen decided since Parker was busy with her new clients she would wander around and see what exactly was going on at Legacy.

She walked down a long hall way and peeked in through the small windows on the doors. She stopped at one and paused for a while when she saw a man tapping away on a keyboard. She couldn't tell what he looked like because he kept his back to her. Hearing someone approaching, she stepped aside, hiding.

Sam entered the room. "Hey, Jarod. I didn't know you were here today."

"Yeah, Nicholas called me. He's having problems with one of the children."

Kristen walked backed up to the door. She saw Sam standing over this man. She wished she could hear what was going on as another set of footsteps came closer.

Backing up against the wall, she saw Parker enter the room.

Kristen once again curious to see who this man was stepped up to the glass. This time Parker stood next to him with her hands on her hips as Sam stood close by. Jarod's chair began to turn when Broots says, "Hey, Kristen. What are you doing down here?"

She jumped. "Broots! You scared me."

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

"I better get back to the desk. Talk to you later." She walked off.

Broots watched her leave. He shook his head in confusion.

*****

The next morning, Simone and Broots waited for Parker as she entered her office.

"Well, what do I owe the honor?" she replied as she walked in.

"Melissa, we have a problem."

"What kind of problem?"

"Well...our security cameras picked up something after you left yesterday. I think you will want to see this." Broots responded as he handed her the DSA disk.

Parker pushed the disk in and watched carefully. Then turned it off.

"Well...what do you think?" Broots asked.

"I think I better have a talk with her."

"Do you want us to stay?" Simone asked.

"No, I think I can handle it."

"Okay." They turned and walked out.

Parker followed them to the door. "Kristen, can you come in here for a minute?"

"Sure." She stood up and followed Parker in.

"Have a seat," Parker paced. She let out a sigh, turned to Kristen. "I found out something when I came in. I need to know the truth."

Kristen crossed her arms, "Is it something I can help you with?"

"I hope so." Parker walked to the window and turned back around to her desk. "Who are you?"

"What? I don't understand." Kristen replied hoping this wasn't going where she thought it might be heading.

"Maybe this will help you understand." Parker turned a silver case around and pushed the DSA disk in. Kristen watched the screen as it showed her going through Parker's desk draws.

"I can explain." Kristen answered nervously.

"I hope so."

She stood up and walked back and forth nervously. "Well...you see...I'm not who you think I am."

"I can see that. Tell me what is going on." Parker leaned back against her desk and watched her pace.

"Okay...the truth is...I'm searching for my family."

"This sounds familiar. Go on."

Kristen stopped in front of the window, pulled her blonde wig off to reveal her dark hair, "My name is not really Kristen, it's...."

"Emily," Parker finished.

"Yeah. How did you know?" She looked confused.

"There is someone here I think you should meet." Parker and Emily walked down the hall into a small room. Jarod sat at a table with a child and Nicholas.

"Jarod," Parker said.

He turned to see his wife and another woman standing there. He looked at her. "Emily," he said smiling.

"Jarod," she replied with a sigh of relief.

They hugged as Parker turned to walk away.

"Melissa, wait..."

She turned. "I'll talk to you later. You need to catch up." She walked out.

*****

"I told you for the last time to pick up those toys." Parker raised her voice.

"Mom."

"Don't Mom me. Get those toys upstairs. We have company coming over."

They headed up the stairs with toys in their hands.

"I wish you would quit looking at me," Kyle said as they reached the top.

"Mom!" Sydney yelled.

"Quit fighting!" Parker yelled up the stairs. Then headed in the kitchen. "Jarod, what time are they coming?"

"They should be here any minute."

The door bell rang. "I'll get it." Parker said as she went to the door. Opening the door, she saw Emily and Margaret standing there.

Emily looked at her funny as they entered the house.

"I take it...Jarod didn't tell you."

"No," she answered.

Jarod entered the living room. "Jarod, why didn't you tell Emily we were married?"

"It must have slipped my mind." He hugged his mom.

"Jarod," she cried. "I thought I lost you forever."

"Same here."

Parker could hear crying up stairs. "I'll be back." She headed up the stairs.

"Mom. Emily. I can't believe you are actually here."

"Me either." Margaret hugged her son again.

"Jarod, I have been searching for dad but I haven't had much luck."

"Me too but he was seen in Delaware about a year ago. I'm still hoping to reach him."

Catherine lead the crowd down the stairs.

"Mom I would you to meet your grandchildren. This is Catherine, Kyle, and Sydney. Guys, this is your grandma and your aunt Emily."

After dinner they visited for a while.

"Emily, why didn't you come to me with this first?" Parker asked.

"Well...I wasn't sure who you were."

"How did you know you were at the right place?"

"I saw it in the paper that a woman from Delaware was opening a place to help children. I wasn't sure if it associated with the Centre or not. Mom didn't want me to go near the place. Her first instinct was to run again, but I couldn't. I was tired of running. So I went through your desk, hoping to find some information on my family."

"I can't blame you for that. I know the Centre was wrong that's why I was opening Legacy. I was hoping to do good to make up for the bad things the Centre did to everybody. Well, I hope you will stay with us."

"You mean you would let me come back."

"Yeah, you're family. I never really had a family since my mother's death. Besides you and Jarod could work together to help these kids."

"Thanks. I would like that."

"I can't believe we didn't run into each other at Legacy." Jarod said as he joined the conversation.

"I know," Emily commented.

"Why did you have to go through her desk? Didn't you see our family photo on her desk?"

"I didn't have it out," Parker replied.

"Oh yeah, you were mad at me."

"No, it wasn't that. I just got a new frame for it and haven't put the picture in it yet."

"Yeah, right." Jarod looked over at her.

"That's the truth."

Margaret looked at the time. "We better get going. It's late."

"Are you sure you have to leave?" Jarod asked. He didn't want to lose them again.

"Yeah. I'll see you tomorrow. Don't worry. Now that I have found you I'm not letting you go again." Margaret replied smiling.

"Me either," Jarod responded as he walked them to the door.

The End!
