It had been a few months since Parker and Jarod celebrated their ten year wedding anniversary. Parker came home after a nice relaxing afternoon away from the kids.
She walked in the house and called out for Jarod. Silence filled the house so she called out again. Making her way toward the kitchen she could see a pool of water on the floor.
"What's this?" she sighed taking a closer look.
As she walked over to get a towel she heard screaming from the yard.
"What's going on?" She peeked out the window and saw Jarod and the kids playing then stepped out the sliding door that stood between the kitchen and dining room.
"Hey, what going on out here?"
Jarod ran over to her, arriving a second before Catherine threw a water balloon and hit her mother.
Parker stood there for a moment not saying a word. Catherine's hands covered her mouth as she watched her mother.
"What are you doing?" Parker asked clamly as she let out a long hard sigh.
"We're playing," Jarod answered as he grabbed another balloon and threw it toward Catherine.
"Come on mommy, join in on the fun." Catherine threw another balloon and hit her brother in the stomach.
Kyle and Catherine began throwing balloons at each other, while a few managed to hit their mother.
"Jarod!" she yelled.
"What honey?" He dodged a balloon coming right at him.
"Who's idea was this?"
"Does it really matter?" He ran toward her and handed her a balloon. "Why don't you join us? It will be fun."
Another balloon hit her on the arm, she stood there for a moment before giving in. She threw the balloon straight for Jarod, hitting him in the back.
"Now, wasn't that fun?" He smiled at her as he grabbed some more balloons.
Jarod and Parker began throwing them at each other ignoring the kids. Catherine had gone in the house to fill more balloons when she heard the door bell. She peeked out the window and saw Sam standing there.
"Sam!" she replied as she opened the door and jumped into his arms.
"Hey, kid. Is your mother home?"
"She's in the back." She looked up and saw Simone standing beside him. "Hey, what are you doing here?"
"I came to see your mom."
Catherine showed them to the back where Parker had Jarod down on the ground.
"Take that back," she yelled as Jarod laughed.
"Mom, Simone and Sam are here."
"What?" She didn't even look up.
Jarod's eyes turned to look at Catherine. Seeing them standing there, Parker noticed his eye movement and turned around.
"Hey." she replied as she let Jarod up. "What are you doing here?"
"Parker, we need to talk." Simone responded seriously.
"Okay, let's go in the house." Once inside, the took seats at the table. "What's is it?"
"We have a slight problem with the Centre."
"What kind of problems?"
"Well, part of it is now gone."
She looked over at Sam and back at Simone. "What do you mean part of it is gone?"
"Parker...."
"We had a break in the other night," Sam interupted Simone.
"So, what does this have to do with the Centre being gone?"
"Do you still have your silver suitcase?" Simone turned to Jarod.
"Yeah."
"It is probably better we show you."
Jarod went up the stairs, retrieved the case and join them back at the table. Simone slipped a DSA disk in.
Parker and Jarod watched the screen and saw a man slipping in one of the rooms. They turned to face each other.
"My father," Jarod whispered.
"You know this man," Simone questioned, puzzled.
"Do you think he is the one who destroyed the Centre?" Parker asked.
"Well...no...not really."
"Then who?"
"Well, Lyle showed up a few days later. He was drunk and caused a big scene."
"Lyle," Parker commented looking over at Jarod.
"I thought you threw him out."
"I did." She turned back to Simone.
"You might want to look at this one also." Simone put another disk in.
Parker watched as Lyle entered the Centre. He was yelling and threatening to get even with his sister. Parker hit the stop button and rose from her seat. She paced the floor, stopped, turned to them.
"What are we going to do now?" Sam asked.
"Rebuild."
"Honey, wait..."
"Jarod."
"What?"
"Rebuild here."
He walked over to her. "You mean, stay here." He smiled.
"Yeah. What do you say?" She looked at Simone and Sam.
"I don't care. It's yours."
"Yeah, but would you be willing to stay on here with me?"
They looked at each other and back at her.
"I don't have anything for me there."
"Me either." Sam responded.
"Okay, let's do it."
********
Parker came downstairs after changing her wet clothes. She joined the others in the living room as she sat down there was a knock at the door.
"I'll get." Jarod rose from the chair.
Opening the door he found Broots, Janie, and Debbie standing there.
"Hey, we were going out and thought we would see if you wanted to go." Broots said as he entered through the door. He saw Sam and Simone sitting there. "Hey, I didn't know you were here."
"Hello Broots," Sam greeted.
"Well, we would go but we have company right now. Maybe another night," Jarod offered.
"Sure."
"Okay, we better get going. I'll talk to you later."
They turned to leave.
Simone turned to Parker. "Who was that with Broots?"
"Oh, that was Janie. Broots has been seeing her for a while."
"What do you know about Janie?"
"She lives in the states. She a photographer. Why?"
"Do you know anything about her family?"
"No. Why?"
"Well, I've seen her somewhere."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Where's that DSA case?"
"In here. Why?"
"Nothing."
"No, what?"
"I thought I saw her on one of the disk."
"Are you sure?"
"I don't know." Simone got up and went in the kitchen. Parker followed.
Pushing in the disk, Parker stood behind her. "What are looking for?"
"Wait."
She watched as an image of Lyle appeared. He was talking to a man.
"Watch," Simone whispered.
The man stepped closer to Lyle which gave them a closer view to see it was Haven. They were arguing. Lyle left and Haven pulled out a picture from his wallet. "It won't be much longer my darling," he whispered.
"Who's in the picture?" Parker asked.
"Wait. I think it shows a better view in a minute."
Parker wait impatiently for the camera to move.
"Here." Simone pointed.
The camera moved in closer to show an image of a woman holding a small child.
"That's not Janie, it must be his wife and child."
"I know...."
Before she could finish Haven pulled out another photo.
"Who's this?" Parker asked herself.
The camera was still showing a close up view when she saw Haven standing beside a woman.
"Look, that's Janie," Simone said.
"It is. Do you think....?"
"It has to be."
Jarod and Sam entered the kitchen.
"Here you are. What's going on?"
"Jarod look at this."
"It's Janie. What is she doing on a DSA disk?"
"That's what I would like to know and I'm going to find out." Parker left heading upstairs.
"Honey, wait," Jarod called after her.
"Jarod. Come here."
He walked back to Simone.
"What is it?"
"Listen."
Haven pulled out the first photo again, staring at them both. He heard Haven talking, "Honey, don't worry. I have Lisa working on my plan to get even on what they did to you." He slipped the photograph back into his wallet and walked off.
"He going to get even with Parker," Sam answered.
Jarod looked over at them. Then headed up the stairs.
"Honey, wait."
He opened the bedroom door and saw Parker getting her gun out of the closet.
"Honey, I can't let you do this."
"Jarod, I have to. What if he comes after our kids?"
"Honey...."
Parker pulled out the clip to check the bullets when they were interupted by Catherine barging through the door.
"Mommy..." She stopped. Looking at her mother and the gun she was holding. "What are you doing with that?" she asked.
"Just checking something," Parker answered.
"Whatcha need?" Jarod asked.
"I forgot."
Parker slipped the gun behind the small her back and walked out.
"Melissa!" he yelled.
"Daddy, what is mommy going to do?"
"I don't know," he answered as he chased Parker down the stairs.
Catherine quickly followed. "Mommy!"
"Honey, I want you to stay here with your dad. I will be back later."
Cathine stood in front her of mother as Jarod grabbed her arm.
"Melissa, think of what you are doing."
"I am. Now let go of me."
Parker moved forward when Catherine stopped her.
"Honey, I told you to stay here with your dad."
"Mommy, please don't go."
"I'll be back soon."
"But mommy...."
"You're not going alone," Jarod demanded.
"You have to stay here with the kids."
"I'm going."
"No. Stay here with them."
"Then we'll go," Simone replied.
"Fine. Let's go."
Parker looked back at Jarod. "If you walk out that door...." Parker slammed the door in his face while he was talking.
"Damn it." He looked down at Catherine. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said that."
He paced the floor for a moment.
"Daddy."
"What?"
"You can't let mom go."
Jarod looked into her eyes. Then he ran up the stairs. "Angelo." He threw the door open.
"Jarod, upset."
"That's right, Angelo. I need you to stay here with the kids. Can you do that for me?"
He shook his head yes.
"Thanks."
Jarod went back down the stairs. "Catherine."
"What?"
"I need you to stay here with Uncle Angelo while I go after mommy."
"Daddy..."
"Catherine."
"Okay," she pouted.
Jarod went out the door and got into his Ford explorer. As he was driving around looking for Parker's red mustang, he heard a noise coming from the back. He pulled back some clothes that were laying there to see his daughter.
"What are you doing here? I told you..."
"Daddy. I want to go with you." Catherine climbed in the front seat with Jarod.
"Since you are here, look for mommy's car."
"Thanks," she whispered.
Jarod drove a while longer when Catherine yelled, "Over there."
He saw her car parked at an amusement park.
Parker, Simone, and Sam spotted Broots standing by the House of Mirrors.
"Broots!" Parker yelled as she caught up with him.
"Parker, I thought...."
"Broots, where Janie?"
"In the House of Mirrors with Debbie. Why?"
"I need to see her."
"You came all the way out here just to see her."
"Yeah."
About that time they came out, "Melissa," Debbie said as she came up to her. "What are you doing here?"
"I came to see Janie."
Janie walked over to Broots. "Can I see you for a moment?" Parker asked.
"Yeah. Is something wrong?"
Parker looked over at Broots, "Can we make this private?"
"Sure." They walked off.
"What is it?"
"You tell me."
"I don't know what you are talking about?"
"Oh, I think you do."
"No, Melissa I don't."
"Okay, I'll go first. Tell me about your brother."
"My brother. I don't have a brother."
"Cut the crap, Janie or should I say Lisa. I know you and Haven are siblings."
Janie could see she was busted. "Okay, but can we not tell Broots."
"That depends on your answers."
"Okay. Haven's wife and child were killed in a car accident."
"I know that. Keep going."
"He found out it had something to do with an organization called the Centre."
"I'm listening."
"Well, the accident was intended for him."
"Why? What was he into?"
"I'm not sure, with Haven there is no telling. He was always dealt with the bad to get ahead."
"So, where do you fit into this little project?"
"Well, he found out that your father had something to do with. He wanted to get even with him by getting rid of his daughter."
"You have my attention."
"Then he found out you have a brother."
"Oh yes. My dear brother."
"Well, he teamed up with Lyle to get some money out of Centre. Lyle wanted you gone just as bad so Lyle thought, 'why not'?"
"And you came into this...how?" Parker paced.
"Haven found out you were living down here. He wanted me to get close to you, to find out everything that I could. There was only one problem."
"What is that?"
"I fell in love with Broots so when Haven found out he threatened me too."
"Why should I believe you?"
"You can believe what you want but I'm telling you when he finds out that I'm not longer a part of this he will be down here. In fact he is probably already here."
"You're right, dear sister." Haven spoke from the corner of a booth.
"Haven," Parker whispered.
"Haven, can't you let this rest."
"No, you know I can't until I have revenge."
Debbie walked over to where they were standing.
"Melissa..."
"Debbie get back."
Debbie turned to walk away when Haven grabbed her.
"Let her go." Parker demanded pulling her gun from her back.
"Is she yours?" he asked Parker.
"No!"
"Daddy," Debbie yelled.
Broots, Sam, and Simone came running to where they were standing.
"What's going on?" Broots asked nervously.
"I'll tell you later." Parker and Janie said at the same time.
"Let go of my daughter."
"So, this is the guy you have been seeing."
"Yes, now let her go."
"I can't. Not until I get what I want."
"Haven, it's over."
"No!" he yelled.
Parker looked at Debbie. "Remember what we were talking about the other day."
"Yeah."
She looked over at her father. "Look at me." Parker responded keeping her gun and eyes focused on Haven. Parker nodded her head at Debbie. Debbie kicked Haven in the leg, causing him to lose his focus on Parker. Debbie ran into her father's arms. Haven raised his gun to shoot but Parker shot first. He dropped the gun to the ground.
Jarod and Catherine heard the shots and took off in that direction.
"What if it is mommy?" Catherine asked.
"I'm sure it's not." Jarod ran faster just in case.
Parker turned to walk away when Haven reached for his gun. Sam, standing between Parker and Janie had his gun in it's holster but in plain view. Haven raised his gun and had it aimed at Parker. She heard the gun click when Janie grabbed Sam's gun. Catherine seeing her mother yelled, "Mommy."
Janie fired a shot and Haven fell to the ground. Parker spun around to see Janie run to her brother's side. With tears falling down her cheek, "Haven, I'm sorry. It's finally over."
"It's okay. I love you. I'm going to see my family." He took a deep breath as his eyes shut.
"I love you too," she cried.
Catherine ran into her mother's arms. Parker held her tight. Then looked up at Jarod.
"I thought I told you..."
Jarod placed his fingers over her mouth. "Shh..." He hugged her tight. "I'm glad your alright."
"Let's go home."
******
When they got home, Parker tucked Catherine into bed. She laid there beside her for a moment before any words were spoken.
"Mommy."
"Yeah."
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah. I should be asking you that."
"I'm fine."
"Catherine, I'm sorry you had to see that."
"Mommy, who was that man and what did he want with Debbie?"
"It's a long story."
Parker glanced over at her daughter. "Get some sleep." She reached over and kissed her cheek. Parker rose from her bed and headed for the door.
"Mommy."
"Yeah."
"Will you tell me who that was?"
"Tomorrow." Parker turned the lights off and went to her bed room.
"Are you okay?" Jarod asked as Parker climbed to her side of the bed.
"Yeah. I'm tired. Good night."
"Good night." Jarod turned the light off and laid there knowing she wasn't okay.
Later that night, Parker couldn't sleep. She tossed for a while before finally getting up. She went to the livingroom, turning the TV on. It wasn't long until Jarod joined her.
"What are you doing?"
"Watching TV. What are you doing down here?"
"I couldn't sleep. How about you?" He sat down beside her on the couch.
"I'm fine."
"Then why are you down here?"
"Jarod, I'm not in the mood right now."
"You want to talk about it?"
"Talk about what?"
"About what's bothering you?"
"I told you...nothing's bothering me."
Catherine came down the stairs, rubbing her eyes. "I heard voices."
"Look, now you woke our daughter."
Catherine went to the couch and sat down on the floor. "Mommy, are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I wish everybody would leave me alone." Parker got up and went back up the stairs.
"Daddy, is mommy going to be okay?"
"Yeah, what do you say you go back to bed and I go check on mommy?"
"Okay."
Jarod and Catherine walked into her room. Jarod tucked her back into bed, kissed her forehead. "Night night sweetheart."
"Night night daddy."
Jarod entered his bedroom and saw Parker lying on her side facing the wall.
"I know you said nothing is bothering you but you have me and our daughter worried."
She didn't move.
"I just want you to know that I will listen when you are ready to talk."
Parker turned to face him, tears falling down her cheek. She grabbed him, holding tight. "I couldn't do it."
"Couldn't do what?"
"Kill him. I wanted to but couldn't do it."
Jarod held her tight as she cried into his chest.
"I remember when my father would sent me out to do his dirty work and I would pull the trigger like it was nothing but tonight...."
"Shh...it's okay."
"But I wanted to so bad." She looked into Jarod's brown eyes. "Hold me. Forever."
He squeezed his arms tighter around her. "I'll never let go," he whispered.
