Hampton, Va. -- Guests at Hampton University’s $200 Million Capital Campaign Kick Off celebration, scheduled for Oct. 22 at the Hampton Coliseum, will be treated to two nationally-known entertainers, Hampton University president William R. Harvey announced today.

This past Thursday was Arts Advocacy Day And, Miss Virginia used the occassion to push her agenda before state lawmakers. Nita Booth and others spent the day at the state General Assembly, lobbying for additional funding for the Arts for Virginia Commission.
((NITA BOOTH/MISS VIRGINIA 1999; WHAT WE HOPE TO DO IS REACH A DOLLAR PER CAPITA FOR THE ARTS IN THIS STATE. WE NEED 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THIS FISCAL YEAR AND AN ADDITIONAL 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE NEXT FISCAL YEAR.))
The funding would be split among the state's various arts organizations. Booth says that will still put the state about 36-percent below the national average.

The National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) spotlighted the new "For Your Heart" component designed for African American at a special Cardiovascular Disease and African American Women panel session featuring Nita Booth, Miss Virginia 1998 and a heart disease patient. "Educating African American women about the risk factors for cardiovascular disease is my full-time mission," said Booth. By using the "For Your Heart" site, I can get immediate feedback of how I'm doing with my physical activity, blood pressure monitoring, and nutrition. I love the conversational-type stories because they remind me of situations I've been in with my family and friends in changing my eating and exercise habits."
