Charles Shaughnessy in The Nanny Special

In an unscheduled program that appeared in Germany, first in 1999 and again in early 2001, this show which lasted approximately 25 minutes, (including commercials), was simply referred to as The Nanny Special. It was made up of interviews with Fran Drescher, Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis and Lauren Lane.

The Interview

CS (re: the relationship between Fran and Maxwell): When Fran came into the house she immediately had a strong influence on his life; in the good and in the bad sense. Anyway, suddenly there was this relaxed atmosphere. Suddenly there was another one who he could spend his life with, who helped him with the kids, and after a while he discovered that maybe she wasn’t the chaotic kind of person she appeared to be in the beginning. He is much more relaxed now, and the two of them get along quite well. Well, he has been changed by her, but the same applies to her vice versa.

CS (re: trip to Paris): Well, if you want to get closer to someone, is there a better place than Paris? I’m sure this is one of Mr. Sheffield’s favourite towns – it is one of mine for sure. No wonder he goes to Paris with her.

CS (re: marriage to Fran): Finally she’s caught him. Now he’s trapped, he hardly has air to breathe, little scope. This was a little bit mean – but in principle it will be the same relationship. I mean, they both have the same relationship concerning their contrary characters. There is some inner contrast – now they are married; he can’t just turn her out. I mean, he can’t just fire her.

I would like to express my gratitude towards a very generous soul who took these snaps and passed them on to me so that I could share it with all of you. Thanks Bettina! And a *BIG* thanks to Carmen and Bettina for interpreting the interview for me!!
