Lauren Lane

in Interface (1984)

This movie was shot at Lauren Lane's alma mater, University of Texas at Arlington.

It's about a group of college students who take their knowledge and love for the computer to the extreme by playing a high stakes game of murder and intrigue using the computer as some type of demi-god.

Lauren Lane's character is Amy Witherspoon, (her credit in the movie is Laura Lane), a young wife whose husband is said to be dead with a recently signed life insurance policy worth a lot of money. On the run from the police and determined to prove her innocence, Amy seeks out her husband Bobby's computer teacher Rex Hobson, (played by John Davies). With his clumsy, but appealing help they are able to solve the mystery behind the death.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie despite the silliness of the plot. It brought back the days when a floppy disc was a large, clunky cardboard artifact. The gang of students wear these hokey masks and speak in this overly done robotic voices. Lauren Lane's character holds the computer teacher hostage and to gain his freedom he has to help her solve the crime. Through it all, she ends up stealing his last clean pair of underwear because she didn't have a spare, he ends up running naked in the street at some point and there's this bad Inspector Clouseau-type who's chasing them throughout the movie. So you're probably asking, what's to like? It was just so silly, so very 80's, that it was fun to watch! And Lauren Lane was very funny in it. She really saved the movie. (Of course, I could be bias!) At one point she does this John Wayne imitation, ("Yo, pilgrim."), when her character starts playing around with a couple of guns, and of course the gun goes off! Also, it was a surprise to see her as a brunette in this movie. (I guess Niles was right!)
