Emmys Cancelled -- For the Time Being

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The Emmys are not cancelled, according to CBS President Leslie Moonves, Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Chairman and CEO Bryce Zabel and show executive producer Don Mischer, who all sat in front of reporters Sunday afternoon explaining their decision to not hold the Emmy ceremony Sunday night.

Although the three were hesitant to say that that the show is postponed, they did say that there are leaving the door open to holding the Emmys at another time, just not on the same day that the U.S. military and Britain deployed missiles to Afghanistan in response to the Sept. 11 attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Tonight's preemption of the "53rd Primetime Emmy Awards" was a group decision, in which all the networks were involved, according to Moonves. However, a key factor in the decision appears to have been the boycotting of the event by certain celebrities over the military actions taken today.

"Certain high profile shows and casts did not want to participate tonight," says Moonves. __Zap2it.com (October 7, 2001)
