Synopsis: When Lily's brother, Aaron, expresses a desire to move out on his own with a young woman who is also mentally disabled (Ally Sheedy), she finds it emotionally impossible to let him go.

"Once and Again" stars Sela Ward as Lily Sammler, Billy Campbell as Rick Sammler, Julia Whelan as Grace Manning, Shane West as Eli Sammler, Meredith Deane as Zoe Manning, Evan Rachel Wood as Jessie Sammler, Susanna Thompson as Karen Sammler, Jeffrey Nordling as Jake Manning, Marin Hinkle as Judy Brooks, Steven Weber as Samuel Blue and Ever Carradine as Tiffany Porter.

In this moving episode, Patrick Dempsey returns as Lily's sensitive, disturbed brother, Aaron, who has fallen for an expressive and volatile mental patient named Miriam (Ally Sheedy), whom he met in their board-and-care residence. Aaron has been approved for an independent-living program, and he wants Miriam to move in with him. Her father, a retired cop (Robert Prosky), is against the arrangement. So is Lily, especially after Aaron and Miriam descend upon the Sammlers for an overnight stay. The unsettling occasion floods Lily with memories of her brother's happy youth and painful teen years. __ TV Guide

"Once and Again" Produces Its Best Ratings of the Season in Key Demos

Monday (8:00-11:00 p.m.) For the night, ABC registered its highest Total Viewers count (8.6 million) in 7 weeks and best Adults 18-49 rating (3.5/9) in 8 weeks - since 2/4/02 and 1/28/02, respectively.

"Once and Again" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Boosted by "The Bachelor's" compatible lead-in, "Once and Again" posted the season's highest Adults 18-49 rating (3.6/10 - tie). "Once and Again" also delivered its highest ratings of the season among Adults 18-34 (3.2/9), Women 18-49 (4.7/12 - tie) and Women 18-34 (4.3/12).
