"Food For Thought" - When Rick and Karen take Jessie to see a psychiatrist (Edward Zwick) to find out why she is not eating, they are surprised to discover how much work they still have to do on their own relationship.
Last month's Thanksgiving story indicated that teenage Jessie (Evan Rachel Wood) might have an eating disorder. In this episode (insightfully written by series creators Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick), those suspicions are confirmed.
Zwick makes his acting debut here as Jessie's therapist, an understanding and often wry doctor whose treatment of his patient's anorexia involves consultations with her divorced parents, Rick and Karen, to get "to know the unwritten rules of your family, the unspoken messages." That quest is complicated by a conflict embattling Jessie's parents: her dad is designing a huge riverfront project that her mom, a public-interest lawyer, opposes.

"The Insider:" Words you can't say on TV
ABC should file this under, "Once and Never Again." According to a Midwest newspaper critic, ABC recently sent out a screener tape of an upcoming "Once and Again" episode in which series co-star Billy Campbell's character utters the forbidden F-word. Once ABC and series producer Touchstone Television realized the mistake, they quickly mailed disclaimers to newspaper critics, explaining that the tape was an early rough cut. The expletive will be edited out before the show airs Dec. 5, a Touchstone spokeswoman said. The episode, titled "Food for Thought," deals with Rick Sammler's (Mr. Campbell) daughter Jessie (Evan Rachel Wood) and her battle with anorexia. Ed Zwick, executive producer and co-creator of "Once and Again," also makes a cameo appearance as Jessie's therapist.__Crain Communications Inc. (November 27, 2000)

Rick and Karen (Billy Campbell, Susanna Thompson) have brought her in because they want to know why she won't eat. But the doc must be having a three-for-one special, because he gives them some things to chew on regarding the state of their own relationship. Sela Ward also stars.__TvGrid.com (November 30, 2000)
