Tom O'Neil is the TV critic quoted in the article, Emmy Voters Go to the Tape, He appeared on "Good Morning, America" on Thursday, September 7, 2000. Here is an excerpt of the interveiw transcript with Charles Gibson.

GIBSON: All right. Then we turn to best actress in a drama. The nominees here: Lorraine Bracco, "The Sopranos"; Amy Brenneman for "Judging Amy"; Edie Falco for "The Sopranos"' Julianna Margulies for "ER"; and Sela Ward for "Once and Again." Now, I would tend to think Julianna Margulies wins here. She's left "ER," very emotional and all that.

Mr. O'NEIL: Sure.

GIBSON: You think?

Mr. O'NEIL: I think it's Sela Ward. If they watch these tapes, Charlie, and this is how we'll know if they watch them, this is one of two races I think we look closely at. Sela Ward's tape was heads and shoulders above all the others.

GIBSON: Really?

Mr. O'NEIL: It's tender, it's romantic, it's dramatic.

GIBSON: Well, we have a little clip of the episode that Sela Ward submitted for the Emmy voters to look at. Let's take a look.

(Clip of "Once and Again" shown)

GIBSON: So, you say watch this race. If Sela Ward wins, you can tell that it's being judged on the--on the episode submitted. And if Julianna Margulies wins, it's because of more emotion.

Mr. O'NEIL: Yes. And I think Julianna Margulies had a better tape to submit. She submitted the one where she gave birth to twins in the "ER," which is a good episode...

GIBSON: Mm-hmm.

Mr. O'NEIL: ...but she should have really submitted the one where she has a reunion with George Clooney.
